Dakgogi in Ottawa

i just want to share my experience in this restaurant. today, unfortunately i forgot to bring my valet to work, so i cannot pay in person. so i ordered online take out by using google pay. so after around 10 mins i waited at the restaurant, i finally got my food and started to eat. and then the waitress told me to leave because i was not allowed to eat in the restaurant since i ordered online take out order. but there were only two options for online order delivery or take out, and then i ignored her. besides, there were only 4 customers in the restaurant. after i finished part of my food and prepare to leave, she asked me to bring the tissue with me. is this the attitude when you serving customers? i wanted to give 1 star, but i gave 2 since the food is ok.

This was my first time trying halal korean food. It s hard to find good halal fried chicken place especially with twist from different cultures. I went with my family we absolutely loved the food, chicken was fresh and amazing taste. Service was amazing as well. I highly recommend this restaurant, it s a must try!!!

Halal Korean Fried chicken. Beware. It might be addictive to your taste buds. I tried the Yang Nyeom chicken with a mix of sweet/spicy sauce and it was delicious. Craved it so much that I ended up going back the same week to have it again! Definitely recommend The Indian girl at the counter was also very nice and helpful.

It good I Loved the spicy rice cakes and the chicken

I recently visited this restaurant and had the spicy yang nyeom chicken which was out of this world so good. It is the best fried chicken i have ever had. The flavor was so good and even after sometime the chicken didn t get soggy like other places. I also tried the hot soy garlic chicken which was really good as well, and also i would highly recommend the prinkle fries to anybody who loves a bit cheesy flavor. The service is absolutely amazing as well. The girl named Kashish on the counter is amazing and helped me out to pick the right choice of chicken and was really nice and friendly.

I had been here a few years before and the food was soso and I thought I simply wouldnt come back, but I recently heard that they got new owners and chefs so I thought Id give it another try and omg Im so happy I did. The food is amazing now and the staff and owner are so kind and thoughtful. Really recommend this new and improved restaurant one of the best fried chickens Ive eaten in Ottawa for sure.

I have always been a fan of Korean Fried chicken and Dakgogi on Elgin is my new favourite spot to get my juicy Korean Chicken. I was bit sceptic about their quality by previous experience but the new owner renovated everything and new chef is delivering it perfectly. The environment is more appealing and quality wise the food is far better. I tired their crispy fired chicken and to my surprise it s one of the best fried chickens in the city. I will obviously come back here to try their spicy rice cake and specially the juicy fried chicken with sweet and sour Korean sauce. I would recommend people to give it a try as I can guarantee that you won t regret coming and eating here.

I went to this restaurant today and i had a lunch combo2, there was hot soy garlic fried chicken with fries and Fanta. It is a good portion size and a reasonable price. The place is very clean, also the server is friendly! I recommend this restaurant!

Fantuan allowed me to place an order while the establishment was closed -- it is confirmed, but no pickup email was ever delivered and the pickup time has lapsed. Google facilitated this purchase -- their hours for this business differ from what I saw at the establishment, where theres a sign that states Back at 11:30am. (The same sign hangs in their window the next day at 4pm. Their phone number is also out of service.) Mysteriously, the order was received at 12:40am today, when I never picked up anything. Having had to download the Fantuan app to reach customer service, and now wait a week for the refund, Im pretty displeased.

I recently saw this place move in and are here for the first time. Very tasty skewers with excellent service. Highly recommended as something low key but satisfying. Pork belly is the top pick!

Had a horrible experience at Dakogi! The lady server, Bushra, was pretty rude. Food was undercooked, and when we complained, things got worse. She got extremely rude and argued that how can we say that the food was undercook. She tossed our chicken in the bin right in front of us. Tried to reorder, she even refused to bring ketchup, even after promising earlier that it was complimentary, and after the arguments, she told us that we would have to buy the ketchup. Its not our first bad experience with Bushra, and this time, the food was oily and tasteless too along with pathetic customer service like always.. Plus, she seemed more into chatting with her friends than helping us. Upon asking to call the manager, she became defensive and arrogant again and told us that we can only talk to her and if we wanted to leave a complaint, it should be through her. Hope they sort out these issues. They used to have good food but now along with the customer service, the food has also gotten worse. Im not planning on going there again!

We dined in on their first day open and had a delightful time..it was a really fun meal. Basically consisted almost entirely of food on skewers. We tried the corn, mushrooms, jumbo shrimp, miso soup, squid, chicken skin, beef rib eye and beef short ribs, edamame and the green salad..for the most part everything was absolutely delicious. I personally did not like the shrimp even though it was one massive shrimp per skewer and the short ribs were slightly chewy. The food tasted great and the special house sauce added a nice touch. Some things - like eggplant, okra, and beef tongue were not available even though on the menu. Beef short ribs were cooked medium rare. Every food item on menu was $6 or more (2 skewers per serving) and they had combo platters as well. This is not a place for folks with large appetites or who want lots of starch with their meal. Its a really fun place to go - loved the buddhas decor. Wondered why they had a live feed on the streets of Florence, Italy - why not Kyoto? But to be fair, they had another still life screen which was clearly Japan based images. We liked it - a bit of a quirky fun place to go for an evening. Pleasant, quiet, unrushed intimate atmosphere.

My mother and I tried this place on its very first day. The staff were mostly enthousiastic, calm & helpful and the music was just at the right volume but coming from the corner so we moved away from the source. This is not a place to cook your own Japanese BBQ but a restaurent of yakitori skewers. Delicious! They even had a free house sauce which enhanced each dish. I started with miso soup with clams which didnt have any detectable clams but had fresh seaweed, soft tofu and a gentle miso umami. We also ordered edamame, which came warm with salt. My mother enjoyed the green salad but didnt get the sauce on the side as requested. We also ordered chicken skin (so good especially with salt), ribeye beef, short ribs, octopus, jumbo shrimp, corns, mushrooms (so good we ordered another right away!), eggplant, beef tongue and okra. Unfortunately the last two were unavailable, and the eggplant never came but they did remove it from our bill. Each skewer order came with two. The decor was on theme and they had placed various Buddhas in some alcoves along the wall. I will note that despite it being their first day open, the bathrooms were not very clean. Will also note that the menus arent consistent (one had okra another did not - one had octopus another had squid) as one had more details but both contained cartoon versions of the food and were visually accessible which I really appreciated personally. Our server was readily accepting feedback, very nice and attentive to us the entire time. Super cute place, a nice date night idea (although we also saw families exploring), and we both really enjoyed our meal. I would love to come again to try the rest of the menu!

Bland. Bad service. I was really excited to try this place. I ordered the combo B (ribeye, squid, sausage, chicken wings, corn, okra, salad) and chicken skin. I placed my order on skip the dishes, which didnt go through, then called and then had to place the order again. I got there after skip told me the order would be ready and was told it would be another 10 minutes. To their credit I probably only waited an extra 5 minutes. It seemed like nothing was seasoned at all except the wings (which didnt have any skin, so I guess you need to pay extra to get skin for your two chicken wings per $3 skewer). The chicken skin wasnt crispy or seasoned, the corn (about 1/3rd of a cob) was not sweet and had no seasoning, the okra was non-existent and instead I got a cherry tomato skewer that had like 5 unseasoned and lightly roasted cherry tomatoes, the ribeye was cooked well but had no seasoning, the sausage was a lone breakfast sausage on a skewer, and the squid was fine. The salad was some leaves with some dressing and sesame seeds. If everything had some kind of seasoning or sauce on it, it would have been fine and I would have given a good review, but for the price theyre charging its unacceptable what theyre serving.

Visited this restaurant with a group of ladies to celebrate International women day! We had an enjoyable experience! The meal was skewer-centric and offered a diverse range of options. From the delicious shrimps, chicken wing, mushrooms to the flavorful squid, beef rib eye, all dishes were delightful. Nonetheless, the special house sauce elevated the flavors.the place is cozy and intimate, with charming Buddha decor. Overall, a fun spot for a unique dining experience. Definitely 5 stars food and service, I recommend!

We went to the restaurant with 6 other friends and had a great time there. We truly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere in the place. The food menu includes great choice. The service was also amazing. Highly recommend this place to everyone! Kid-friendliness: great place for children as well

Korean chicken tastes great! Hahaha, the interior is not very spacious with about 4-5 tables, but there are good restrooms and the chicken is faithful to the basics, so I am satisfied~ A half-chicken combo like that was about $22, and I almost exploded while eating it alone (I originally ate half).

The waitress barely spoke English. We had to point at the pictures in the menu. She got the order wrong. The sea food rice cake plate was terrible ... The clams were closed and could not be eaten and the shrimp and calmar were extremely overcooked ... We had to spit some bits out. Even the rice cakes were overcooked and falling apart. Terrible experience! But the chicken was tasty at least.

I ordered takeout. There were only five rice cakes and three fish cakes in the fried rice cake. The soup was half full of the bowl.

Food was delicious and satisfying. They definitely know how to fry. Restaurant has good traffic with the number of takeout plus dine in orders. Food came in under 20 mins. Server was friendly but a little slow: seated us slowly, forgot our table settings, forgot to bring us water, didnt ask if wanted anything to drink...

The chicken is cold and has indian ingredients taste. The mussels is completely disintegrate that almost nothing left inside the shell cant eat at all. There is cockroach in the place as well

The half portion of honey cheese fried chicken ordered on Fantuan, due to its not cheap price WHICHS not that worth especially the chicken itself also taste so dry and not juicy

I was really happy about the taste of the food. But when I went to wash my hands in the bathroom I saw 2 massive cockroaches... This made me want to throw up... I mentioned this to the server and she acted like it wasnt a big deal and said shes expecting an exterminator to come by again soon... clearly a reoccuring problem. I would not recommend this place. I feel sick to my stomach now.

Absolutely the worst Korean fried chicken and Tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) I ve ever had. The Tteokbokki is a lukewarm watery mess. It s more soup than sauce and so watery nothing sticks to the rice cakes. There were huge chunks of raw cabbage. The chicken was soggy and had so much sauce, you could toss another whole chicken. There were lots of fried bits of tiny bones without any chicken at all. The sauce sometimes had a really strong taste of powered chicken stock almost like someone added extra to the finished sauce but didn t stir it in all the way. We had this in person a while back and it was the same soupy soggy mess, but we thought maybe they were having an off day. But turns out it s just consistently garbage.

I tried the chicken wings with sauce on my visit, I didn t like it with the sauce; I felt it s too salty. However, I had crispy chicken wings before and that was delicious. So if you are going there ask the server for recommendations. I liked that place so I am planning to visit again and will try different items, then I can share my experience as well.

Great Korean fried chicken

I thought this would be Korean fried chicken but it was far from that. The chicken was very soggy and the sauces did not resemble korean flavors. Everything had a sweet, ketchupy flavor. The tteokbokki was also very soupy and lacked spice. Overall I would not return.

Ordered the Hot Soy Garlic boneless for take out, told it would be ready in 20 mins. 20 mins later, the lady in the front said 15 mins and then 15 mins later said 10 mins... after mentioning what I ordered couple of times (language/communication gap) and almost an hour later, I got my take out... arrived home in few mins and saw that I got soggy, not crispy YangNyeom chicken... was pretty frustrated and didnt have a choice after waiting for an hour, had a disappointing dinner... needless to say, Im not going back... ever!!!

This was probably the worst meal I ve had at a Korean restaurant. We have been to a few dakgogi restaurants in Toronto that taste amazing. We love to go there so when we came to Ottawa to visit and saw there was a dakgogi near where we were staying we ordered two full chickens, fries and corn cheese. The chicken was just not the same. The sauce tasted different? And the chicken seemed stale. The Mayo Corn cheese was disgusting. Tasted like oil and old cheese. None of us could eat it. Honestly not worth to go back there ever again.

I had a frustrating experience at Dakgogi. I called in my order for pick up at 7 pm and asked for it to be ready by 7:30 pm since I was 20 minutes away. However, when I arrived at 7:40 pm, my food wasnt ready, and I had to wait an additional 20 minutes. When I finally got my order and took it home, I realized they had given me the wrong food. I called the store to explain the mistake, and the lady who answered was defensive and arrogant. She refused to acknowledge the mistake at first and insisted that she knew the chickens appearance better than me, claiming to have worked there for two years. Regardless of appearance, it was clear the taste did not match what I had ordered. Instead of Hot Soy Garlic, I received Crispy Chicken. What bothered me the most was her audacity to suggest that I write a Google review, as if she didnt care about customer satisfaction. To make matters worse, I saw another couple walking out in frustration because they had been waiting for their food even before I arrived at the store. This experience left a lot to be desired, and I hope the restaurant can improve its customer service and accuracy in fulfilling orders.

We enjoyed the chefs hairspray flavour in our toppokki. Also the toppokki was very sweet and undercooked. Very bad service. Took forever to take order and delivering the food. The restaurant was packed so I had very high hopes for the place. Its our last night in Ottawa and we just want some Korean food. What a waste of money.

I have been going to this place since 2018. Before they had a different name but with the new name I thought to leave another review. Food here is 8/8 People who work here are extremely friendly and quick. If you like fried chicken like I do this is the place. Parking: Elgin street is tough to find parking on. However all the side streets have paid street parking and parking lots. Kid-friendliness: Not a huge dine in area but theres room for kids to sit down and eat. Wheelchair accessibility: It does not have automatic doors, but you can still enter.

Ordered take out, when we arrived they forgot about our order even though the restaurant was completely empty. The food was also not good. The chicken was old, cold, the skin was soggy instead of crisp and the meat was dry. The spicy rice cake was watery and cold, and the seafood soup was also cold.

Tried once it s terrible. I want the fry back

The french fries here are good. A starch coating makes them extra indulgent and crispy. The chicken is technically proficient. Crispy on the outside, juicy and cooked through on the inside. But where is the flavour mama? All i got was salt and pepper. This restaurant could benefit hugely from offering a few different sauces they toss the chicken in before serving. Garlic & soy, honey garlic, buffalo, parmesan and herbs. It wouldnt take much for tons of variety and tons of flavour. A missed opportunity.

Well, I went in based on the good reviews, but made the mistake of not checking the most recent reviews. Turns out all the good reviews were for the previous chicken joint. Anyways, there were deep red colorations so I think the chicken was in the freezer a while. The crunch held up a while, but there was no flavour at all. Was pretty bummed out.

We used to order from this place quite regularly when it was still the fry. Seems like its still run by the owners who re-branded recently in order to save on franchising costs - terrible idea. The food quality has gone down dramatically and Id be surprised if the place remains open for another year. Seems like all the ingredients are being purchased at costco with minimal preparation required - bland fried frozen chicken, costco fries, and basic condiments (ketchup, mayo, plum sauce). Save your money and order from kfc or popeyes instead lol.

I was surprised to find all the chicken dishes we ordered to taste exactly the same. Just good old decent salt and pepper fried chicken. Is it good fried chicken? Yes. Is there anything Thai about them? No. The only thing remotely Thai is the generic sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. This place is as Thai as McDonalds was Chinese when they had the Szechuan nugget sauce. We ordered a thigh combo and an order of wings and they forgot to give us the fries and they ran out of mango salad. So we just had a bucket of chicken with zero variety. You would think they can at least do something a little bit different with the wings. Honestly at this price point and how generic the flavour is, you would be happier with KFC or Popeyes. Two stars for plain boring good old decent fried chicken. Stop taking advantage of the good reviews from when this place was The Fry. Stop claiming its Thai.

Ive heard great things about their Toronto location but unfortunately did not have a good experience here. I ordered takeout for their normal full chicken and it was just very tough to eat. The chicken was overcooked and dry. On most of the white meat pieces, the edges and surface turned a medium light brown with a hard texture indicating it was cooking for far too long. The meat was also lacking seasoning, but the batter was tasty. They also included a free drink which was a nice surprise which helped a bit with the dry meat. Hope they can improve on the quality of the fried chicken.

I was really excited to enjoy this restaurant based on the review from Melshangrytable . I have to admit that the presentation was so well done plus I called them to make sure that they gave me a bone chicken instead of a boneless once and the lady (customer rep) respected it, however the disaster came : SALT! Oh it was impossible to eat the chicken. The coat plus the inside chicken were so salty , we couldn t even ate half, real DISAPPOINTMENT. I hope the chef/manager can read my review tonight and make sure to correct that situation otherwise, they will really lose a lot of customers, including me. I gave them 3 stars because of the presentation (check the image) and the fact that they respect my order( thanks once again to the customer rep).

Fried chicken was so dry

So this place was The Fry, then became Thai Fried Chicken, then now Dakgogi which is practically The Fry with a name change???? All within a 2 year time span. Got takeout, Yang Nyeom flavour is alright, asked for it spicy which was better. Hot Soy Garlic flavour did not taste like any of those things. Fried chicken itself was cold and lacked seasoning on the chicken itself but instead just drench in some sauce. Overall: Avoid if you can and get food somewhere else

Food was alright. I was expecting to go to golden triangle fried chicken but it seemed like it changed to dakogi. Portions are good, but I dont think the taste is all the way there. I think its slowly getting more mediocre as the name changes.

Formerly The Fry, the cuisine has remained authentic and as excellent as ever. The map is just perfect, complete and well thought out. The welcome is great and the service extraordinary. Very warm welcome, fast service and the dishes are well prepared. Freshness guaranteed and it is possible to eat without the dishes being too spicy. The fries are excellent.

I wish I could give separate reviews for the food vs. the dine-in experience. The chicken is amazing and delicious - we got the green onion and the soy ginger. Both were great. However, the dine- in experience was disappointing and bizarrely bad. For one thing, probably 80% of their side/starter options were unavailable, and they had only 5 bottles of beer total (I think 3 varieties overall) - all domestic, no imported beer! Pretty strange for a place that specialized in Korean chicken & beer. This was on a Saturday but it wasn t busy in the restaurant at all. The cleanliness was disappointing- tables were sticky, the bathrooms smelled and had visible dirt/mold. It seemed like they hadn t been cleaned in months. There was a mop bucket and cleaning supplies blocking the hallway as well as a number of cases of pop. The server was nice but it was confusing to see the servers standing around doing nothing while parts of the restaurant were clearly filthy - seemed like they could be wiping tables. The jug for water also had a dirty residue around the pouring spout and did not look like it had been cleaned in ages. So overall, the food is still great and maybe for take- out it would be worth the price. But we were very disappointed in the dine-in experience especially compared to The Fry. The standards for dine-in are no longer the same as they used to be at this place. I wouldn t go back for dine-in unless there was a clear change in what they are doing.

Im an Uber driver and they made me wait an extended period of time for my order and it made me late delivering the food. I barely said a few words to them to keep things normal and simple. Im not one to have a conflict, Im a calm person and they thumbs me down on my uber rating for no reason at all, I was stunned to see it... This to me is a sign of unprofessional conduct on behalf of the owners. Thank you for rude and unprofessional service.

Best chicken! I don t even eat this stuff normally but I was so happy I did! I wish they had portions for single people just because I didn t need that much and had to eat it the next day just to finish lol but honestly I wasn t complaining because it tasted so damn good! For two people though it s still more than enough! YUM!

Ordered fried chicken. Cant say its the famous Korean fried chicken. Less crispy, the sauce that came with is questionable taste, missing the traditional sweet and sour radish... if its a regular fried chicken its not bad for a restaurant in Ottawa.

Called 4 times, no answer. Called the Barhaven store to confirm they were still in business, picked up strait away and said yes, maybe they are busy and did not pick up. Showed up at the Elgin location to order takeaway. They seemed unaware that there phone is not working, only one customer in the place. Tried to use some gift cards I received as a present from my father last Christmas. She inform me they would not accept them without giving me any sort of coherent or reasonable explanation. Overall very disappointing, did not even get to try the food. Terrible customer service.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Food was terrible. The presentation of food looked nice but the taste was just not there. Please trust me on this me and my other 4 friends went and none of us liked it. A complete waste of time and money. I never make reviews but on this one I had too. Please avoid.

Korean style chicken, a pure delight

Came to The Fry Elgin for a quick lunch a little while ago, and decided on their garlic soy chicken set. First thing I noticed was the portion size, which was on the small side. The amount of fries it came with was honestly, rather sad. While the flavours were not bad, it wasnt quite what I was expecting. The chicken was piping hot, but the sauce resembled more of a honey soy instead of garlic soy. The lady at the front was the only cashier and server in the restaurant, but provided basically no service. I wasnt even offered a glass of water with my meal. Needless to say, would not return.

The fry should have never left because the replacement is terrible. So sad. The food now is mediocre, the hours of business too. Rest in peace.

I was very half and half on this (I guess hence the 3 stars). I had this delivered, and it was at my house within 10 mins of it being ready with no stops on the way, and the driver waited at the restaurant so I know it was passed off quickly. I d ordered the half spicy half garlic soy. I usually give a lot of leeway on delivery, but this could not have been any soggier. The beauty of fried chicken is it being crispy. This was drenched in sauce and just not enjoyable at all (maybe offer sauce on the side?), we barely even touched it and wrote it off as a waste of money. That said, I give it 3 stars as instead of throwing it out I put it in the fridge and tried a cold piece the next day before I was going to toss it... so much better cold! So - I don t recommend for hot food, but definitely ok if you stick it in the fridge until day 2 (still not crispy obviously). Maybe it s better if you eat in the restaurant, but in this day of delivery and the fact it s been a year, I d have hoped I wouldn t have been sent something so disappointing.

The server took my order completely wrong. We ordered regular size wings (special) and sweet potato fries. But they never brought the fries. He totaly forgot about them. Also, i noticed that he charged me large size for the wings when i ordered the regular size. He offered to change the bill when asked why he charged us 10 dollars extra but i paid as he charged. Good food but the server was not paying any attention to his customers.

Never order here. Very low quality and taste. They gave me old and cold fried chicken. I was so disappointed.

Very good fried chicken, a couple times the order was miscommunicated through delivery and we got the bone-in chicken (boneless is preferred) / dry and saucy are both good but sometimes the saucy is too wet and the chicken loses the crunch. Garlic butter fries can be a little sweet, not for everyone, worth a try and sometimes a good get.

The boneless fried chicken in sauce was absolutely delicious. The standard serving was plenty for 2 people and was very reasonably priced for the amount of chicken. We ordered ahead of time using Uber Eats and the pickup was right on time and quick and easy. Its our go to takeout option whenever we are in the area!

Been a long time client at this location and the chicken is tasty. BUT I stopped eating there after having found a wing with a feather on. I am disgusted and there are no chances that I would eat there again.

I will start off by saying the service was excellent however that was the best part of this experience . I will start with the side dish (the cheese corn) please don t waste that $10 on this .. it would be much tastier to buy a can of corn, melt some butter and add grated cheese.. that would be a 10/10 !! What I ordered tasted like plastic corn with zero flavour and cheese that didn t taste like any cheese I ve had.. it was like melted wax. The smell was also very swamp like. The fried chicken was soggy.. and tasteless . It was like dipping chicken in water , then flour and fried in the cheapest oil available . I paid $34 for a small fried chicken and the corn and would have been better off buying a frozen dinner . Please please don t waste you re hard earned money !

Their service is good, no problem with that. I ordered Crispy Chicken and it doesnt have a taste. I felt like I was eating fried dry rubber without seasoning or something. I didnt enjoy my food at all.

I would come here once every three months . I like more souls food style fried chicken . There chicken is crispy and flakier than what I usually like . the soy garlic is somewhat like honey garlic sweet , which I m not a fan of sweet stuff. This Chicken is so wonderfully good!!! Get it, get it now. I like to get the boneless chicken, but I am sure the bone in is just as good. The sauces for the chicken are superbly delicious. They have soda s and other tasty drinks. I really enjoy the spicy chicken.

I really enjoyed eating from here until today. Here are the reasons for 1 star: 1. Charged me 15% tip without any notice or statement. I know other places also include 15% of tip in the final price but at least the message is written in the menu. This place wasnt. Even though it was takeout, manager charged me 15% tip. 2. No receipt. Didnt even bother giving me the receipt. I asked for the receipt and she just gave me the debit card receipt which doesnt include how much I paid for tax, tip, and food. I asked her for itemized receipt and she had to write down individual item on the paper. If I submit this receipt for reimbursement, this receipt cant do anywork because it has no restaurant name, no business information, no date, and etc. Anyone could have wrote that receipt. 3. Inexperienced management. Very bad communication skills. After paying for the food, employee took so long time to find my order from few completed orders that were left out on the counter. Also employee didnt bother telling people to wait outside. I was surrounded by 4 people in the small space.

Its a pricey treat, but so crispy and we really enjoy the sticky sauce. A great change in the fried chicken options here in town

Been going to The Fry for the last 4 years and I can honestly say that I havent gotten even close to being over or sick of it. It is one of if not the best Korean fried chicken restaurants in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. I highly recommend to anyone who loves chicken, or asian cuisine.

Close to a very good Korean fried chicken. But recently it s been hit or miss - chicken comes out fibrous and boring sometimes. Despite that my favourite to order is always Special Half & Half. Lunch specials are decent.

We loved the food but thought that its kinda odd that they give a drink per order not per meal.

Got the half (soy garlic) and half (plain )chicken special . Excellent! Comes with a single drink which could be beer if eating on their terrace. I loved the plain while the others devoured the flavored. Enough for 4.

We Ordered large size ( half and half) chicken with calamari last night, the chicken was not cooked properly, so bad in taste, tasted like the old food were served and calamari was not chewy. We have been a regular customer till yesterday, but unfortunately we are not going to order anymore. Good bye.

The fried chicken was alright. I got the half - and - half special that consisted of 24 pieces of fried chicken for $30. It came in three flavours - regular, spicy sauce and soy garlic. As far as the price is concerned, it is a nice deal for crispy chicken, however, I feel they could have worked a bit more on the flavour profile as well. The soy garlic was really tasty and juicy, but the spicy sauce was more like honey garlic with a pinch of kick. I was craving some really spicy fried chicken and I know for a fact that Korean sauces have a really nice heat to it, but that wasn t the case here. Overall, it is feeling for 2-3 people. Soy garlic chicken - 4 / 5 Spicy chicken - 2.5 / 5 The restaurant was extremely short staffed. We waited for 25 minutes before our order was placed and we didn t even get water before the food arrived. Other than that, it was fine. The server (even though she was alone) tried to manage the customers and serve them. She seemed nervous and we got the feeling she was on training - that is totally fine. Good job! I still recommend The Fry

Just ordered take out (on Uber) at 11pm, and they close at midnight. They accepted my order and said it would take until 12:15 to be delivered which was fine. At 11:40, they cancelled my order and said that it couldnt be delivered (I assume because they wanted to close early). Very upset I waited so long for my order to be cancelled, and yet they accepted it way before closing time. Im not surprised that this company did this, as I had a friend work there (who eventually quit) because they werent getting paid for over 2 months), and had to keep bugging them to get paid.

It was my one of my favourite Korean fried chicken restaurants but I was so disappointed with the quality of food and the indoor dine in environment. I ordered a small green onions fried chicken which was my fav dish, but the green onion did not taste like it was fresh and the chicken had a strong oil smell (which could mean that the oil they used had not been changed for a while). The coating of the chicken was okay but the chicken itself also did not taste like it was fresh. Btw the side dishes are no longer free, which is so weird for a Korean restaurant. My friend ordered a seafood soup and the mussels were not fresh either. On the other hand, the indoor dine in environment was not pleasant in general. The seats and tables looked dirty and messy, and the cutlery was not clean. Not to mention that the washroom was a total disaster I will never ever go to this location again.

I really want to like this place but as a few other reviewers have noted, I suspect the chicken is often undercooked. When you first get the food it smells really nice of the different sauces/seasonings and that s great. However, after a couple of bites into the meat you notice it has a raw smell, look and texture. Please take the time to properly FRY the chicken. Not only is it a health hazard, it tastes nasty.

BEWARE of lunch special. They charged us extra for spicy chicken, sweet potato fries, and garlic fries even though the menu made no indication that those cost extra. The bar by the window was so extremely dirty and sticky. There were little bits of paper wrappers and glitter stuck to it. They also forgot our drinks until halfway though our meal when we finally flagged down the waitress. Food is tasty, but maybe stick to takeout.

I came very usual, every 2 weeks. The recent time I came, the chicken was a bit dry but it was the first time Ive met, so it gonna be all right. The soup was amazing. I loved it.

I loved The Fry in Toronto, so I was super excited to find out that they had a branch in Ottawa. I was, however, very disappointed in the quality of the chicken. The chicken was dry and the orders we got were drenched with sauce. The garlic butter fries were still amazing, and I would highly recommend trying them if youre stopping by.

New restaurant re-branded from what I understand. The recipe is certainly different than the past fried chicken restaurant that was on site, is still available for online ordering, and the prices are similar to what was being offered before. The biggest problem here is CONSISTENCY. You literally reorder the same meal and something is different every time. (always some kind of mistake)

The most disguting fried chicken I have ever had! It was literally just an oil soaked sponge. Fries are the same. Left after barely eating anything because my stomach couldnt handle it The menu is tiny and no substitutions at all, only combos. They dont have hot sauce, not even a simple Franks. I would give zero stars, but the waitress was so sweet and tried to accommodate as best as she could. She even tried to make us hot sauce with some powder seasoning and mayo.

Rude staff, didn t check on us once during our meal. Did not include side dishes, food was mediocre. They give you more when you order take-out (e.g free beverage and side dishes.) Ridiculous.

Met all expectations. Had the boneless soy-fried chicken and calamari. Both were great and very crispy. Would order again and love that they were open late. They also gave us a free soda which is nice but honestly we don t drink it.

Worst customer service. I ordered special half&half: soy garlic and spicy sauce for take out. After I got home, I realized I received regular half&half: fried chicken and sauce, which is cheaper than what I paid. I called them and told them they have made a mistake, and asked them to prepare the food that I originally requested. They said they cannot do anything because the manager is not there. Then I requested for a refund but they refused. This is the worst customer serive that I experienced in Ottawa for the last 7 years. I will avoid The Fry at all cost and make sure others do the same.

I asked for more sauce, and I paid for it, but they still won t give me more sauce. May be sauce is more important than costumers to them.

Really tasty, large portions to share with friends

Parking can be a drag to find around here but its not impossible only during busy hours. Their lunch special is pretty good. I gave a 4 stars because the chicken is hit or miss sometimes. I feel they make it amazing, okay or terrible but for the most part Ive had mostly good experiences here. Love me some Korean spicy chicken.
