This was an amazing experience, a must try for everyone. Food was very tasty, the starter and dessert are a surprise but you can choose the main dish (or get a surprise dish), I got the chicken and it was very fresh and delicious. You also get a locker for your belongings before you enter the main dining space. A huge part of this experience was our waiter, Dave, who had the most wonderful personality and guided us through every step. I definitely recommend dark fork.

Very unique experience! Takes some adjustment to eating in the dark but it was truly a fantastic way to dine. No distractions, looking at your phone etc…. Really good food as well. Our server Dave was amazing. It was his first night working there and he did such an amazing job! If you want to try a different dining experience that you will remember, can recommend Dark Fork enough.

Amazing experience! I will come again for sure. The best server I have ever had, he was funny and engaging (Aaron)! The food was great and although it was a very last minute reservation for 9 people, they made sure to try their best to accommodate us and they did! I'm bringing my family to dine in this restaurant! Great experience, all my friends were delighted with the service and food.

This was a really cool experience! The dining room is very loud though (likely a senses thing??!) as it felt like everyone was shouting.. but our waitress Jenn was great and the food was good too. We went with another couple so the girls got the surprise meal while the guys did steak frites and chicken. Everything was well cooked and my allergy was well taken care of too. The wine selection was very limited and the 2 bottles we got at our table weren’t great either. The service was a little slow but given the experience and company we had with us, it was still a good night out.

This dining experience is truly one-of-a-kind! From the moment you arrive, you are greeted with kindness and anticipation for your experience in the dark. The food was phenomenal and the service was incredible. Dining in darkness is so fun, you have to not see it to believe it! Thank you to the staff of Dark Fork for making this birthday dinner with my friends one to remember.

Dining at Dark Fork was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we entered, the atmosphere was both mysterious and exciting as we prepared to dine in complete darkness. It was a truly unique experience to rely solely on your other senses allowing you to focus more on the textures and flavours in each bite. The food itself was fantastic. We enjoyed a three-course meal, starting with a fresh and flavorful garden salad that set the tone for the meal. The main course was a perfectly seasoned crusted chicken fillet topped with greens and a side of fingerling potatoes. The dessert, a rich chocolate cake, was the highlight—decadent and the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. A big shout-out to our waiter, Aaron, who made the experience even better. He was incredibly polite, funny, and kept the energy light despite the darkness. His professionalism and humour really helped put us at ease in such an unique dining environment. If you're looking for a cool, one-of-a-kind dining adventure, Dark Fork is a must-visit!

Overall, I absolutely loved this place. it was a little anxiety inducing at first because having your sight taken from you is NOT a fun time for someone with anxiety (it s me, I m the one with anxiety). But once you sit and have a chance to familiarize yourself with the space it gets a lot better. I had the steak, and oh my god, it was delicious. I recommend doing the three course option for anyone interested in trying it.

Went there 2 days ago with a friend, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience! We got a surprise 3 course meal (one vegetarian) and it was super delicious! The waiter, Jason, was kind and had the most gentle approach (super reassuring in total darkness!) The talking got excessively loud at time to the point of not being able to hear across the table and the waiters were quick to ask the patrons to lower the voices. There were also a few occasions where the curtains did not get closed all the way and we could see inside: this was amusing at first, and reassuring as the place looked neat/clean, but also somewhat annoying. Overall, it was a very delicious meal and a fun experience. I will definitely go again! :) Vegetarian options: Had a delicious surprise vegetarian meal!

I went to Dark Fork with my husband for the first time last weekend and it was such a unique and great experience. I have always wanted to try this and I am very happy that I did. At first I was not sure if it would be too complicated to eat a three course meal in the dark but our server was amazing and made sure to help us through the process. It also gave me and my husband time to trully connect and not be distracted by our phones. Will definetly be recommending this experience to my friends and family.

I have visited the establishment on a Friday evening, it started off very well. Our server, Jen was very kind, she was the highlight of the evening and made it very enjoyable. On the other hand, the atmosphere was very loud and overstimulating. For a dine in the dark experience, you can only imagine how your hearing would be heightened. Customers that day were very loud which caused a communication issue for the servers. On the other hand, the staff didnt handle this issue properly. They would either scream very loud telling us to be quiet, clap very loud, or slam plates loudly to get the guests attention I guess (I couldnt see so I cant explain the logic behind that decision lol). I wont speak for others, but I personally do not go to restaurants expecting to be yelled at. This happened at least four times which soured my experience, and my ears were hurting by the end of it because of how loud it was. I personally believe this could have been handled in a more sophisticated way such as using a bell or something more tame to grab our attention, they also didnt instruct us to talk quietly before we went into the dark area which contributed to the environment that evening. Also, some guests were using their phones which, as you can imagine, also ruined the experience. If i can give zero stars for the atmosphere, I would. Im glad I experienced it, but I would not go back. If I were to miraculously go back, I would only hope that I am served by Jen. Also, the food was mid, and not worth the price in my opinion.

Dining at Dark Fork was an experience like no other a thrilling, transformative journey that engages your senses in ways you never imagined possible. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we knew we were about to embark on something extraordinary. The concept itself is so unique youre guided through a completely darkened dining room, where you are served your meal without being able to see a single thing. It s all about focusing on taste, smell, sound, and touch, creating an intimate and immersive experience. The staff, all of whom are visually impaired or blind, were exceptional, especially DAVE our server, as they guided us with grace and ease through the darkness. Everyones warmth and expertise were evident, and they made sure we were comfortable, safe, and excited to begin the sensory adventure. As for the food words can hardly do it justice. Without the ability to see the dishes, each bite becomes a discovery. Every flavour is amplified, every texture is more pronounced, and the combination of spices and ingredients is so much more profound. We choose to have each dish as a surprise, and the inability to visually see them only heightened the mystery and excitement. What makes Dark Fork truly special, though, is how it challenges your perceptions. Without sight, your other senses taste, smell, and touch are heightened, making you more attuned to the flavours and textures of the food. Every bite becomes an exploration, and each moment feels like an intimate connection with the meal and the people around you. Dark Fork isnt just a meal it s an experience that challenges, delights, and enriches your senses in a way that you ll never forget. I left with a deep appreciation for the power of food to evoke emotion and connection, and I ll certainly be returning to relive this unique, sensory journey. If youre looking for something completely different and life-changing, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!

- Food: Ordered the 2-course ($46). The steak frites were pretty good. The surprise starter was a salad which was decent as well. Overall, decent/good food but nothing mind-blowing. There was no option to pick a particular starter. - Service: Waiter was friendly and reassuring. - Ambience: Pitch blank with the exception of the faint light from the Exit sign. There are two sets of curtains meant to allow people to enter and exit the room but there were 1-2 instances of the light coming through because the curtains weren t fully closed. Thought the noise levels were fine. - Price to quality: Total came to $65 after tax, tip, and a small diet coke, which is reasonable given the experience. - Overall: Everyone should try dining-in-the-dark at least once. I also appreciate their mission to employ visually impaired persons. I have been to a similar restaurant in Toronto, and while the food was good at Dark Fork, it is not good enough to warrant a second visit. I think the surprise menu is a great idea but I would have preferred to pick my own starter. - AMEX: Yes

Wow!!!!! I cannot say wow enough! Moe has a real gem on his hands here. First, the fact that he has a contract with the CNIB for his wait staff is incredible and a wonderful advantage for the blind community to have workforce avenue. Dave our waiter. We bow to you Dave! You had us laughing and enjoying the night all that much more. The food.....spectacular! There were 11 of us for a work event and with a mix of all dishes that are offered, not a complaint in sight. We did the 3 course option, with Appetizer and Dessert a surprise and chose our entre`. What fun!!! Infact, only RAVES on food taste, quality and culinary genius. The atmosphere, all we expected and more. What an experience and true lesson on relying on our senses. I would recommend to everyone!

Dining in the dark was an interesting experience, and for that alone I would recommend all to try! Aaron our server was exceptional. Very attentive to getting us acclimated with the loss of visual. Gave us some good tips on how to find our drinks, cutlery, etc. very cautious to validate our dietary restrictions with each dish. The dining experience lost all intimacy with how loud it was! While I can appreciate that may have partially been due to losing one sense and heightening another, it truly spiked the experience for us. It sounded like a table was shouting and we even had to ask the server to ask the table to keep it down because we couldn t have a discussion ourselves and hear each other. We both opted for the surprise two-course menu. The starter was a salad - same for us both. It was just what it was, a salad - nothing special. Admittedly we both had dietary needs (vegetarian and lactose intolerant) and the main reminded us of a frozen box chain meal. It was underwhelming for us both. Maybe we truly do eat with eyes? What we both found super cool though was learning afterwards what our meals were and off the mark we were about some of the common ingredients!

My partner and I were here tonight. First I d like to say that our server Saj was wonderful. Very kind, attentive and really helped make us feel safe. I really wish I could ve given this place five stars but I ll be honest, I have to agree with the other reviews on food. I got the steak and it was cooked well but practically flavourless. I was honestly a little disappointed by it, plus it was a small portion. With that said, my partner got the surprise me and he really enjoyed it so it s possible that just the steak is a miss. Our bill was $130 which is quite pricy for what we received . Overall, I don t see is going back but I am thankful that we had Saj as our server, he definitely helped make the entire experience better!

Having eaten at Au Noir, a similar blind- themed restaurant in Montreal, we were looking forward to Dark Fork. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We ordered 3 courses and a bottle of wine. It took over 45 minutes for our wine to arrive, along with what turned out to be our main courses, not our appetizers. Meanwhile the room was extremely loud and one guest had a glowing watch, which distracted from the entirely dark ambiance. We all ordered the surprise and the menu said it would be different from the menu, but it turned out to be one of the three mains from the menu. A perfectly fine chicken and potatoes with sun dried tomatos but not a surprise. The chocolate mousse was also good, the wine not so much. We were looking forward to a special occasion but this simply isn t as well run as the Montreal inspiration.

I went with two friends on a Sunday evening, so it wasnt packed... Im thankful for that, as I have anxiety and dont always do well in packed places. When you arrive, you go up some stairs to be greeted and make your food selections. The starter and dessert are both listed as surprise items... so you dont know what they will be, but if you have allergies or strong dislikes, this is where you tell them. All phones, smart watches, etc.... have to be put away. There are lockers, so we popped all our stuff in there, locked it up and off we went. Our server was Jenn, and she was lovely. We made a human train and she guided us through the double black out curtains to our table. We all ordered 3 courses. Surprise starter ... were pretty sure one of us got something different, because we shared, which wasnt easy in the dark. Mains: Two of us chose steak, one chose chicken. We all enjoyed our meals very much. Dessert was very good, too! We all had the same dessert. All in all, it was a cool experience, and I hope they continue to grow and expand their menu over time. That was the only reason I gave a 4 for food. If youre picky, or have food anxiety, there is less transparency with dishes youre being served.

Such a unique experience. I have no idea why people are saying portions were small, all at our table agreed that portions were huge, it felt like we were eating forever and it was delicious. I think the price point is exactly at where it should be taking into consideration the experience + the food. Kudos to Dave, our server, for making it a great experience. Everyone should try this at least once. I would love to see this as a blind date destination!

First time over there and let me say that the experience was incredible ! The food was great ! Our waiter (Saj) was amazing with the service. For someone that only worked 5 shifts total, WOW. Really a unique moment that me and my boyfriend shared. The only thing that we found unpleasant was the group of people beside us that was talking so loud that I could barely hear my boyfriend. Other people tried to hush them, they wouldn t listen. So much disrespect from these people that I feel bad for all the other tables that had to experience that. There should be a rule for the volume/sound/noise that we make just to make sure that everybody has a good exeprience. Will definitely be going back there and invite other people to try ! Thank you to all the staff !

I made reservations for 25 people at 5:30 pm on a Saturday Night. We celebrated 4 birthdays. My closest past experience is O Noir. This has been planned for a month. I was always in communication with Moe. We were seated in a room on the lower floor that fits all of us. We were separated into 4 tables. For large groups, I highly recommend having everyone s meals and drinks in advance and send it to Moe. Create a seating plan organized Table A, B, C, D. Doing all of this will make it easier for the chefs, hostesses to organize the small front area. Have everyone arrive 15 mins early. Give clear instructions to not serve desserts until everybody is finished with their main and sing happy birthday. We had Miya that was coordinating my group. She did a superb job. We appreciate her hard work, order and flexibility. Most of my group are from the West End of Ottawa and we were stuck in traffic because of protest and construction. Dark Fork (Miya) was very accommodating and flexible for my group that were late which I really appreciate. She got all the orders for the drinks of my group. It went smoothly for a big group that was late. There were last minute changes to my groups menu which I appreciate for the change because I m assuming the pre order dish was made. I apologize for the last minute changes. I hope Miya and chefs gets a nice bonus. :) Our servers were Kharrar and Aaron. They were amazing! They brought us to our seats. Gave us clear instructions of where our utensils, drinks and food were. Our drinks, and food were given at a timely manner. They offered us water as many times. Excellent service. It gives you a different perspective, and appreciation for our eyes. Our heart goes out for Aaron and Kharrarr for their daily struggles that we don t face. I m glad that my group was able to support them. I hope they both get a nice bonus too! We had a teenager with many severe allergies reactions. They were very accommodating to my cousin. He really enjoyed the fries. :) thankfully no allergic reactions. Food Starter was delicious. My Lebanese friend recognize the starter the moment we tasted it. Those who had the starter enjoyed it. Majority of my group had Steak Frites and Chicken Parmesan. Most of the young teens got Chicken Parmesan and they thought it was tasty. I m pleased that my younger group was able to have a dish that they thought was tasty. Steak Frites. The group thought the steak was cooked to their ideal doneness. They said the Fries were yummy! The steak was juicy and tender. Some thought the sauce with the steak had a particular ingredient that was too strong. Overall a delicious tender and juicy dish. Surprised Dish Some of us had the surprised dish. Some of us had trouble guessing the protein. The protein was tender, and juicy. The veggies that complement with the dish were delightful. Sauce with the dish was a good pair. Two members in the group thought the dish was basic and were not full. Overall we all enjoyed it. Dessert Everybody loved the dessert. 3 members in the group thought the portion was small maybe because it was so good they wanted more. Atmosphere/Environment Since we had a room to ourselves, everybody was loud, laughing and having fun. The room was pitch black. I would say that Dark Fork s room was darker than O Noir. At O Noir the room was pitch black too but my eyes were able to adjust in the dark so I was able to vaguely see things. At Dark Fork my eyes could not adjust at all. I was only able to see the EXIT sign and the occasional peak of light when the servers would come through curtains. We sang happy birthday loudly. Overall an amazing experience. I highly recommend everybody to try this restaurant and experience it at least once. 23/25 of my group was first time experiencing a setting like this. It makes the memory more memorable. We took a group picture with Aaron and Kharrarr. Excellent service and although very tiny complaints on the dishes. I give this review a 5/5. Thank you Moe, Miya, Kharrarr, Aaron and Dark Fork Team!

Such a fun and unique experience! Our waiter, Saj, and the hostess were both great and definitely made our visit a memorable one. All the meals were delicious, and the Shiraz was fantastic as well. If I had to make one recommendation, it would be to ensure the entrance is fully dark, or that the exit signs are a little dimmer. For those facing the wall and the entrance, there would be a reference point, while those on the opposite side were in total darkness and could fully enjoy the experience. Overall, it was an amazing experience with great food, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

This was a very interesting experience. If I had to describe it in one word I would say humbling. You are totally dependent on the servers to get you in and seated and I can be honest that getting to the table and leaving the table can be a bit anxiety inducing (you have no control and you have your hand on the server or person in fronts shoulder), but thats why you go here is to experience this. I thought the experience was great and price reasonable ($151 for two three course dinners and two glasses of win - before tip). I only have two complaints. #1 cell phones. I am sure no one is surprised that two people in the dining area didnt listen. One turned her cell phone on to see something (and they all just laughed) and another I think was completely overwhelmed by the experience and seeking some degree of control added some light. Now, if you think turning your phone on in a movie theatre is bad, this is way worse. Its the only light source in the entire restaurant. You have to remember that the servers are visually impaired so its expected you will notify them and they will tell the diner to turn it off. I couldnt believe how much these two instances interrupted the flow of the experience. There has to be a better way to police this. There are lockers and they suggest you put your stuff in the lockers but I think there needs to be a policy that phones are not allowed in the dining room period and you will be asked to leave if you bring them. Its just not fair to other diners. Also, leave your stuff in the locker.... they guy next to us (other cell phone guy) decided to bring his bag, coat and phone into the pitch black restaurant. Not surprisingly he panics when he tries to figure out where to put all his stuff (coat and bag) in the pitch black restaurant. Although he could have used common sense, most people dont know what to expect and I think the front should be better at saying something like its pitch black in there, you wont see anything and we dont allow light. You really should leave everything in the locker and you may forget it in there or have trouble placing it. My last qualm is a minor one. I was asked to write a google review twice and I understand the want us to tell our story. I have no issues with being asked, more about when I was asked. I am writing this on my own with no compensation. The thing I want to bring up is that its not the right time to ask me for a google review when I am being led out of the dining room after my meal (one of the most stressful times). Wait until I am back in the light and ask me. Overall this was a really unique experience and I am glad we did it.

For obvious reasons, I dont have pictures of the food, but its easy to assume it was beautiful. What I can say for sure is that the food was delicious! I ordered the surprise menu, and it did not disappointed! The food was really well made, and the portions were perfect. The atmosphere was amazing. You go up, talk to the amazing staff to order what you want, remove or turn off anything that might light up (cellphones, smartwatches etc.) and you are guided to the pitch black dining room. Im not kidding, its dark. Period. If can keep your eyes opened or closed and it makes no difference whatsoever. That by itself is an amazing experience. But the star of the diner is the staff. The food is great, the atmosphere is great, but the moment you lose your sight the show starts. Our server, Erin (if Im not mistaken, Im terrible with names), was absolutely amazing! From helping us to find our places to bringing our food to making jokes, nothing escaped his grasp. He was the main reason I tipped way more than I usually do, hands down. Its weird eating without seeing? Yes, a bit. But, to be honest, I didnt have much of a problem doing it and it was an eye-opener (pun not exactly intended) on how they do that everyday. But avoid the place if you are afraid of the dark. Btw, the Braille on the logo didnt escaped me. Very clever! (:

The only thing that was nice was the waiter and the food. The atmosphere was disappointing from the start. The hosts greeted us without enthusiasm and seemed unhappy to be there, which set a negative tone. When I asked for my food to be packed up, they threw it away without consulting me, claiming it was because I only had half a potato left. I would have appreciated being asked first, but they eventually gave me a few potatoes in a to go box when I complained. However, they drew an inappropriate image on my takeout container (probably because they felt annoyed) and, when confronted, tried to pass it off as a smiley face. Additionally, we were treated dismissively, possibly because we were being silly in a harmless way. Overall, the experience felt unwelcoming and unprofessional.

Unbelievably awesome experience! Our ever was Sag and he was excellent - solicitous without being annoying. We got the Surprise three courses and I cannot recommend it enough. With nothing but the food and your company to focus on, it adds to your overall experience. Definitely make the trip to the market and try having no distractions except your food and your company!

The food was amazing! The staff & service was excellent! And the concept + experience was one of the best we ve ever had here in Ottawa! As soon as you are guided inside, you start counting your blessings. The room is super dark(obviously), but your server kindly talks you through everything so you re in good hands(shoutout to our server David)! My wife and I ordered the surprise starter and the main. Came in good portions & pre-cut, but really impressed by the quality of the food & drinks. I would highly recommend this place for everyone. Happy to say we were the first customers(added the invoice for proof ), but that we will also 10000% be coming back again & again!

Dining in the dark was an unforgettable experience. Aaron was amazing! He guided us through the entire meal and we felt comfortable and cared for in this unique environment. The concept of having visually impaired servers to raise awareness was eye-opening, and it added a meaningful layer to the evening. The food was exceptional, with rich flavors that were heightened by the darkness. Overall, it was a 10/10 experience great service, great food, and an incredible way to connect with our senses. Highly recommended!

Atmosphere was fun and intriguing. Staff were very welcoming and fun. Food was very subpar. Steak was cooked ok but everything tasted rather bland. The pasta had fridge-cold pieces of vegetables in it. Appetizer and Dessert was good.

Upon entering for our reservation at 7pm, the space was extremely crowded. There was no room to move without bumping into multiple people, and trying to give our orders was difficult as it was so loud. There were some questions I had which were not explained, but I tried to go with the flow and be open minded. Seating was difficult as the space was so crowded, and during my meal I was bumped several times by people trying to pass by and servers. I felt like I was in the way but couldn t see where I was to move. Our dining area was downstairs, and for the majority of the meal it was so loud that I couldn t hear my partner speak clearly which was bothersome as the whole point of this is to dine without distractions and focus on the food and each other! The food itself was subpar we had two courses. Our main was steak frites which was well cooked but very under seasoned and bland. We had a surprise dessert of chocolate mousse cake which tasted like a cake I d buy at the grocery store. The food was highly overpriced, and as we re in complete darkness, the extra money isn t going towards the environment or decor! The positives of the meal however, were the amazing waiters, and how the darkness can be a freeing experience for those who struggle with eating disorders. When you can t see the food in front of you, you don t focus on portion size, what you look like eating, who is around you, etc. I found much of my anxiety surrounding food to be decreased greatly! I also enjoyed how much the experience brings you together with those around you as you navigate a new experience together. My partner and I had to rely on each other greatly which felt more intimate than another usual dinner out. I would 100% return if the overall dining experience once was improved upon. As this is a new restaurant, we may go back in a few months to see what improvements they ve made! Very excited to have such a creative concept in Ottawa supporting our visually impaired community.

My friends and I had a truly unique and enjoyable experience. The service was outstanding the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the start. The concept of dining in total darkness was a fun twist, perfect for a fun night out. That said, the food was underwhelming. The pasta was served cold, lacked flavor, and the combination of vegetables seemed mismatched for a pasta dish. Additionally, there were occasional issues with the curtain not fully closing, which interrupted the immersive darkness. Were looking forward to returning in a few months to see how things improve. Its a fantastic concept, and we re thrilled to have something so unique open in Ottawa.

Just went to Dark Fork and the experience was good. Our server Saj was phenomenal, helpful, and made the experience enjoyable. The food was good, nothing to rave about and small portions. Upon arrival, the introduction fell short. The hostess didn t explain anything, couldn t answer our questions and didn t know anything about the menu. We felt as though there should have been an introduction to the restaurant and the expectations of the evening. It was a missed opportunity to hype up the guests prior to their experience.
