Founded in Montreal in 1993, eggspectation is famous for elevated takes on comfort-food classics for brunch, lunch, dinner, and cocktails. Eggspectation uses classic ingredients and bold new flavors to create memorable dishes in a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. When you are dining with the people who matter during the moments that matter, eggspectation is where memories are made.
I went to second floor, it has good vibe with a lot of big windows! I ordered a mushroom burger! It is big for the price and the taste was not bad! I like sweet potatoes so I upgraded. It has too much pepper taste but how it fried was perfect for me.
Busy location! The restaurant is in an older building in a very busy part of town. The room is very large and offers little soundproofing. The food was great as was our service!
Food was underportioned for the price. What was advertised as a hardy portion of Lyonnaise potatoes was in fact a few slices of potato crisps. The crepe was underwhelming. Bacon was alright. The waiter (Johnny) mistakenly gave me the wrong check of double the portions. I don’t know if it’s common practice, but he did watch as I inputted my tip.
nice environment and price fair to be on downtown, the service kind slow. the food was nice, ask for the all America, excellent option. BTW, coffee is extra. three boxes, with refill.
We came in for breakfast on a suggestion by the hotel and we decided to take it. We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the friendly staff that served us. The food was quick and the taste was fantastic.
I returned to Eggspectation today after many years, this time with my son for our mother-son day. I didn’t know that the upstairs area was reserved only for bookings. I had promised my son a panoramic dining experience, so we were a bit disappointed in that regard. I want to extend my thanks to Michael for enabling us to have a wonderful time together. When he brought Crayons and paper for my son, he thought I might want to join in and kindly offered some for me too! While waiting for our meals, we had so much fun colouring together. After I mentioned how hungry I was, he provided incredibly fast service and helped us promptly with eye contact whenever we had a new request. As someone with lactose and gluten intolerance, I had no issues today! What makes a place special is not just its menu, but its staff. With his outstanding performance, Michael provides an exceptional service to the customers.
Just after reaching Ottawa I was looking for a lunch place open on a Sunday near my hotel. This place was the nearest and had good menu to offer. Reached the place and got seated in minutes. Ordered mushroom melt burger combo for lunch and as I am a sweet tooth ordered french toast for dessert. The food came after a long waiting time of almost 45 minutes. The food was not piping hot and as I was very hungry I had the food without any further delays. Mushroom melt burger was average tasting, slightly bitter tasting, felt like burnt patty. Fries were cold, not freshly cooked. French toast was okay. I felt disappointed and realized this place has better breakfast options than main course. Service was slow although the place was not very busy during lunchtime. Music was a little loud. Overall it is a better option for breakfast than lunch.
From the silent traveler to all of you be well, be safe, be positive. This is a place if you like a good breakfast and you love eggs this is the right place for you. I've been to quite a few breakfast places but this is one that has a great atmosphere good service great attitudes amongst the staff very pleasant place to be with family friends or just yourself when you want to get away from things. As you can see from the pictures I had the monster all you can eat meat omelette. I say all you can eat but trust me it's not but you will feel like that after eating that monster of an omelette. It filled me up 10 times over as if I was at a buffet bar. Also what I didn't get in the picture was I got a green smoothie they also have a green juice as well which is really good to try out a highly recommend this place if you are in the area you can't and will not go wrong.
Great for brunch! Pleasant service
I ordered chicken and waffles and the chicken was 3 tiny, dry tenders and they forgot the maple syrup for the single waffle. I just dont think this is $22 worth of food
Excellent breakfast. Benedict and breakfast sausages were particularly good.
Lower your Eggspectations!!!! -Forgotten food order. -Warm fruit smoothies. -Grotesque ingredients. -Wouldn t feed my breakfast to my dog. -Brutal Service. -Worst Bloody caesar In town. -Charged three times and was told to call back for a refund because the machine was acting up.
Great food and Huge portions!
Food was good and the poor young woman who served us was very kind, but it is not acceptable that we were made to wait one hour and 15 minutes for our food because there was a big group. We were downstairs waiting in the cold restaurant while everyone around us were served and out the door before we even got food. Someone should have done our lunch first, especially when my friend ended up having to leave without her food after over 45 minutes because she had a meeting. The waitress was apologetic of course but the manager should have apologized in person. I will not recommend this restaurant ever.
Came here with my wife for breakfast. The food was brought to us quickly, the food was tasty and hot, but the restaurant itself has a very old renovation
One of the places I try to visit every time Im in Ottawa
This place definitely has some serious issues, today October 3 2024, they need more waiters, service was very slow , even to get my coffee. I m not going to blame the waitress (only 2) for Friday morning with 2 big tables and a few busy tables downstairs. As I was typing this review which I was giving 1 start , I put 2 stars because the waitress apologized for the waiting ,again , it s not their fault if the owner wants to be cheap. The food was not tasty and let s not talk about the potato chips. It s not my first time coming , but definitely the last one, October 25, I had my coffee before coming here (again) nothing has changed , 2 waiters for a lot of tables. Mr Owner , it takes years to build a name and reputation , but you are doing a great job bringing down in just a few days. I don t think this place will survive for much longer. The waitress are doing a great job.
$44 (with tip) for three little pathetic breakfast tacos and a fresh orange juice.
WAY TO SLOW TO SERVE !!!
Food tasted old and caused me and my partner to have stomach pains afterwards. Service was also poor, staff seemed confused about who to serve first. If you want to go to a good Eggspectation, the ones in Montreal are good quality. This Ottawa location is not it.
Noisy. Old. Food average.
They open at 7am but I ve tried calling 4 times between 7:30-7:45am and no one has answered the phone.
Ordered a mac and cheese with lobster and some sausage on uber eats. This has to be the most bland mac and cheese I have ever tasted. I genuinely believe I would have been better off eating those canned ones at the supermarket. The sausage is pretty good but the main dish is the mac and cheese and that was a fail so yeah. Eat somewhere else or cook at home. Dont waste your money cause it aint worth the price
They make a good Benny! I recommend the MTL Benny: oka cheese, smoked meat
I bought poutine at this location a month ago and I have never gotten back and never plan to. The food was pretty bland for $21 which was really disappointing, the egg was runny and undercooked, the fries was alright, but the sauce was meh. Was very disappointed my purchase. I read that their other food tastes pretty decent, but Im not interested in coming back since the food is overpriced.
Adorable bravo atmosphere
Blackstone Benny was great, and Michael the server was on top of it while being genuine and friendly. Would come again!
A good menu choice and a nice place for lunch.
Food is good. 9$ for fresh orange juice is pretty steep. Our server was cold and rude the entire time. My eggspectations were not met. Second edit: Came back, all of our glassware were very dirty. Chicken and waffles is more like chicken fingers and a doughy waffle. I also got food poisoning.
Started with tea and coffee, then dived into brekkie. The meat lovers omelette lived up to its name, was very filling. The Montrealer omelette, had three nice slices of smoked beef, tasted the peppercorns. Great service, food and building. Servers get their steps in, up and down the stairs. Will venture again for Bennys.
Ordered off of ubereats and it seems like they just threw someones leftover meal. Completely wrong order.
Most of the time starting about 12:30-1:00 pm, new customers are seated upstairs if the main level is full. Their service can be very slow. Many times we re in and out in 40-45 minutes. Waited 1.5 hours to get my meal and finally got the bill. Took forever to get more coffee and condiments I asked for, so after 5 minutes after my food was getting cold. Had to get up and get them myself. Almost did a dine/dash which was something I ve never done in my life. I ve been there at least 50+ times and today was a mess. Tables need to be cleaned so they re not sticky either. Tip for those that haven t been there before: ask to sit at the white tables as the bench booths are uncomfortable. Management need to have sufficient staff to handle the number of customers. Having just one server handling about 10 tables and 20+ people all at once would be a challenge. This is poor management. Edit: Went back after a long time and it seems worse. Our server went outside the restaurant three times while there for a smoke break! I m waiting for more coffee. Management obviously hasn t learned or doesn t look at the reviews. Parking: Little to no parking as it s right downtown on Bank street. Wheelchair accessibility: On main level you re okay if you are in a wheelchair.
Man, their portions are huge and prices are excellent. So much better than Cora.
I don t think this place merits such bad reviews The food was good, service was great and food came fast. Only problem would be the price being a bit too high imo.
The music is way too loud and makes the pipes vibrate -- just awful. It took a long time for our food to come out even when the restaurant was relatively empty. The food is hit or miss depending on what you order. Absolutely do not recommend
The food was not so good and the service was not good either! We went there because of how good the Eggspectation in Montreal always is but no this was awful! I would never go back there ever again!
It s a lovely place. Decor is splendid. Service friendly. However their orange juice is priced at 9 CAD per glass; which is beyond pricey! I paid the same price as an All American breakfast for 2 glasses of juice- !
Very good food, exceeded expectation. . A lot of food. I brought some home. Yaaa.
Food was good. Came quite quickly, lucky for me because I was super hungry. Burger was so full so it started to fall apart. It became a little hard to eat but it was good regardless. BLT full with bacon , we ordered extra bacon thinking it wouldn t be enough but do not be fooled. You do not need that extra bacon. Upon arrival, we were greeted by this man. No hello , no nothing. Just For three, ok chose a seat . Like I guess As we were leaving, we saw him greeting two other customers with a big smile, offering them a joyful greeting, and guiding them to a table. I don t get the switch up but ok Our waitress was named Julia (just like me), chill and calm woman no complaints about her. Got our orders nice and correct. She was nice and was patient with our questions and demands. Overall, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, good food, good service aswell just not from that one man
Great salmon crostini.
Our waitress was super helpful, took our orders and gave our beverages fast, but we had to wait 45 minutes to get our breakfast. The place wasn t even packed at all. Food
Almost 2 hours of waiting for our plates, and one person in our group got their plate after we were all finished. Very nice waiter, but really, this wait is unacceptable
Waiting 2 hours before having our meal and one member received his plate when all the other people had finished eating. The service was ok
Food was cold, toast wasn t toasted and way to expensive for the quality
When staying in Ottawa, we decided to eat here before heading back on the road. We received several visibly dirty glasses. They werent charged on our bill after I asked for it to be removed. Also on three identical orders, one plate came without syrup and another without the fruit. In all honesty, the lack in attention to details and cleanliness, makes me not want to ever recommend this place to anyone. At least the young waitress was attentive.
Terribly slow service at breakfast for four of us. Understandably, as they were very short staffed with one server. Will not go back or recommend to others.
I have eaten at this location and the food is great and so is the service!
Oh my goodness . I travelled from the Bahamas and Michael is exceptional. He was friendly and inviting from the start . He went above and beyond with his service and because of him I will be back .
Good food, the poutine here in Ottawa is different tho. They make good drinks and food was good. Good option and a lot of food. Waitress was really nice and help to choose
Not much to say it was a weird day on Canada day I think not many people wants to work
With big breakfast but coffee is not included. $24 before tax for a lunch is too expensive. Poor service. Food Bof!
Any egg-related dishes here are very nice. The eggs are perfectly cooked, even for the trickier ones such as the eggs Benedict. The dishes with fruit have a decent variety and are refreshing. A minor point is the service. They do try their best, but its a pretty busy place with just a tad too few servers.
Okay food. The salmon bagel dish was ill conceived and executed: Terrible quality olives, onions were diced rather than sliced, bagels were super dry. Decent smoked salmon though. Potatoes were very under seasoned. Other dishes were fine but the fruit were well past their prime. The place needed noise dampening decorations as it was very pretty but so loud. Lastly, the bathroom was extremely disgusting.
Omelettes and Benedicts are great here. Home fries are tasty and not very oily which is great. Vegetarian options: They need to have more vegetarian options.
Stop at this restaurant for lunch. In itself the food was good and the quantities generous. However, bad point for the rather questionable hygiene (sticky table, toilets not very clean) and the slightly high prices.
Good place to have breakfast at any time of the day. The menu is varied, there is something for everyone.
Service is terrible. Walked out without ordering. Waited patiently for a server and wasnt offered a drink or anything in 20 mins. Wasnt even busy.
Abundant and really good dishes. They do both lunch and breakfast. I highly recommend the place. Unfortunately the service was a little slow and the staff were not present in the room but were still very friendly and polite. The only negative point was the slowness and absence in the room.
Very bas service over price safe your money for another place
Food was honestly not that great and super expensive for breakfast place. Waitress was nice. Food could use a quality check? Fries suck cut a real potato BLT was good. Would not recommend.
Chosen for its proximity to the Alt Hotel. Very ordinary as a restaurant. Noisy.
Too much food in many cases. All cases : expensive. The simple American breakfast contains 3 kinds of meat. Why so much ?????? And a price to match. Actually most plates are expensive and mediocre at best . My friend had the lobster omelette the lobster was shredded into tiny pieces. The restaurant probably buys a bag of cheap leftovers , like those bags of cheap nut pieces. One note. I have had cappuccinos in 30 countries and the drink here was un-drinkable. And non-glutin options are almost non-existent The side potatoes are excellent though.
Avoid this establishment. Very poor management and poor service. The food is overpriced and unproportional.
Very tasty breakfast. My omelet was excellent, the sausage was delicious. Pancakes were also good Kid-friendliness: Pancakes are perfect for kids
We were seated and for 35mins we were never greeted or taken for our orders so we left. They seemed understaffed so it might be a management problem. Don t go here unless it s not busy at all or else you might not get served.
Ordered delivery on uber and the quality of the food was so bad. The omelet with smoked meat was just eggs with 2 pieces of sliced meat on top. Pouting was dry with little to no gravy. Pancakes were three different sizes. Very disappointing. Specially for the high price we had to pay. Will Never recommend it anyone.
Worst experience at a restaurant. Service was awful and food was cold.
They say it is best Bennys in the town If it is true it s very sad. Food is mediocre and pricy.
Food was very enjoyable, had the eggspectations omelette, service was a little slow, the vibe of the restaurant was amazing. Corner of the building, lots of natural lighting, sports playoffs on the tv, able to watch your food being cooked. Overall very enjoyable experience.
Not a bad place for breakfast with friends
They were short staffed to no fault of their own. 1 bartender was working so drinks were very slow. Other than that it was SUPER ALL AROUND!!
The service is good, the food is OK, but coffee is undrinkable
A great start of a day
Awesome place, amazing service and great food!! Highly recommended Food
Great food.
Great breakfast place located in downtown Ottawa! The food is good, with big servings, the place is amazing (an old railway station) and the service is excellent - staff were all attentive and friendly! Kid-friendliness: Great place for kids!
23$ for 1 bagel and some smoked salmon and no sides I just highway robbery
Ordered the breakfast poutine on the menu for brunch. I think the food is not bad. A bit too salty but since its poutine, I guess its understandable. Service is ok too. But I dont find anything special about it. Paid $31.5 including tips.I dont think the food quality warrant the price. I give a rating of 3/5 overall. I probably wont come back for a 2nd time.
Everything was good. I recommend sitting on the second floor to enjoy the sun and sky while you eat.
Very overpriced - salad was rotten and soggy and food was just very bland for the very high prices . Nice employees though
When I used to work close to this place I went all the time. It was just delicious breakfast food. I hadnt been in over a year. I understand things can change in a menu but I was surprised how bad it got. I ordered the EGGSTRAORDINAIRY. Eggs were bland. Sausage was ok. Potatos were hard. French toast was dry and tasteless. Fruits were good. Coffee was bitter. Others in my party had other stuff that they also didnt enjoy it but I wont comment on their opinion. If youre looking for a simple breakfast that consists of well-cooked eggs, delicious sausage and toast. Dont look here. I mean literally dont look here, it is no longer in the menu. It is obvious that eggpectations headquarters has made the menu complicated and added layers to each one of the options so as to raise prices. You will not find one picture in the menu. I do not mind paying higher prices if the food is good. But this was not the case. This place went from one of my favorite breakfast places to my least favorite. I hope headquarters changes their menus again because this was a very disappointing experience.
This place is an insult to what this restaurant is in Montreal, way too big for the staff that they have. Forgot the sausages on my order and didn t bring bread. Waitress was very nice though
Fast service, friendly waitress and food was good. Second time: Same comments as last time. Food : 4/5
The place was practically empty, no was able to seat me for a long time, then someone from the kitchen came out and took me to a table. Ok that was alright. The waitress came and asked what I would like, I said coffee, water and eggs Benedict. Another long wait and I got my food before my coffee and water. I had to ask for my coffee. No water came. It was the strangest thing service was zero. Thank goodness for the kitchen staff or I would still be there. Worst service from a waiter I ve ever had. She seemed nice just completely uninterested in the people in the restaurant.
Amazing breakfast place in Ottawa! Food is delicious service is extraordinary and ambience is so amazing!!! I had extraordinary french toast with over easy eggs! Bacon was cooked perfectly! our server Gready was amazing in her service and made sure that everything is going well! My other friends had classic benny and steak & fries, they were happy with it! Also we had coffee, hot chocolate is just delicious I recommend this to place everyone! Keep up the best work! :)
Mouthwatering breakfast with flawless service by Michael. I ordered for Bagel sandwich with crispy bacon and it was lovely! I ordered for cappuccino and I got it within few mins, though there was morning rush but food was served hot and service was great. My girlfriend had S mores and she fell for me again, it was so delicious! Must visit if you are in Ottawa!
Food is good here. Nothing amazing but good enough. The service was good as well. Overall a good experience but nothing that blows me away.
Interesting place, great food and services and reasonable prices. We had a wonderful time having breakfast here.
This place was OK, nice central location, but I do feel that the prices are not in line with the quality. Pancakes were super dry... The bathroom was gross... Service was mediocre. I dont think Ill be heading back due to the price vs quality.
The place was ok. Service was good! We liked the decor as it is unique. Toilets need a remodel and were not very clean and smelly. Food was nothing eggsceptional!
Waited an hour after we ordered and never got out food. Ended up leaving. Coffee was more burnt than anything Ive ever tasted. Terrible place dont go.
4 of us went at noon for brunch, we waited an hour and no food came so we left. Waste of time, don t go here.
Waited an hour for our food and left when the table that was there before us just started getting their food. Coffee was burnt
Nice dining space upstairs, but don t go unless you re willing to kill a couple hours waiting for your food.
Very disappointing. Whatever money the owners might be saving in under-investing in staff, its not worth it. Twenty minute wait for someone to take our order. A server who was literally out of breath when she finally came. Seats that were hugely uncomfortable (dont sit in the park bench booth tables). Almost an hour wait for our food. Eggs benedict that were cold by the time it got to us and maybe a tablespoon of hollandaise sauce on both eggs. Both bagels charred. Nobody coming by the entire time we were there to check on us. Definitely not worth the drive downtown.
If I could give a zero I would. On Valentines Day, I ordered from them and got a box with a cockroach (alive). Maybe they assumed I didn t have a Valentine and thought I needed a little partner. It was a small one but no matter the size, I don t think anyone should be expected to eat that food. STILL didn t wanna leave a bad review so I called, nicely saying they might wanna check their kitchen hygiene because of what I found, that I obviously don t plan on eating that food and would like my money back. I had my receipt and pictures which they didn t care to see, basically implied I was lying and nothing was done. I threw away over $30 of food and went on with my day with an empty stomach, cause I spent all my lunch break trying to get my money back.
Good place for breakfast!
It took 20+ min to get 2 coffee on a Sat morning! My husband enjoyed Eggsbenedict but I had the French toast with strawberry and banana & walnuts. So awful, truly. The fruit tasted off, no syrup and the fruity compote was soggy. Could not finish it. Must step it up, would not go back, felt awful after meal, I am sure it was not fresh, yuck!
No pictures of the food on the menu and what I recieved didnt match the menu. Lots of food though.
If I could give this a 0 I would. Disrespectful. I wouldnt feed this to my dog. I ordered chicken and waffles and got waffles and chicken nuggets. How dare you insult your customers like that. And charged $22. People work hard for their money not to be served garbage food. If you dont have the ingredients tell the patron before they order. But instead you just insult their intelligence. Never in my life have I seen anything like this. Do not eat here.
Food was almost flavourless and totally overpriced for the truly awful quality. Great location and service was friendly, but I would walk another Km instead of eating there again. Don t waste your time or money.
Food is meh, not great for the price. Service is okay.
I m not yolking around this place met my eggspectations. This place was eggcalent, I got eggsactly what I ordered and it was so scrumptious my brain was scrambled after. My server was cracking me up the whole time and made me look at life the sunny side up. It s eggsausting how much I will now we coming here. This place is hard to beat.
It was a great brunch and a over all great experience
Great food. Quick service and friendly. Was sedated on the main floor.
This was the first visit to the restaurant. We had a lot of expectations regarding to the restaurant. As our friend suggested it. We were in the restaurant for more than 15 mins we were seated and no one served us. We were looking around and No one even bothered to say Hi to us. After 15 mins. We left the restaurant and still no one bothered to say anything. Very disappointed in the service.
Loved the food, service and atmosphere!
Excellent food and vibe
Georgia was such a wonderful waitress! We re from out of town, and we re really glad we chose to stop by today - fantastic service and the food was great too. Vegetarian options: Amazing vegetarian options! The gravy for poutine is vegetarian
Excellent service! Dishes were great, very accommodative to food preferences! Georgia was our server and she offered 10/10 service!! She was very kind and kept checking in on us to make sure we had a great dining experience
Very tasty breakfast, had the eggs benny and it was perfect. EDIT: Been back three times since first review. Its now a staple every time we visit Ottawa. Great staff and the food is wonderful. Added some pictures from this weekend. Food : 5/5
1 st time here and was really upset at eggspectation was more like a eggxecution.Called in the morning and ask if they take reservations for 4 people they said no need for reservations.Went to the place waited 15 min at the front to be seated, restaurant was empty.Got seated placed are orders waited a hour and a half tell 2 of are plates out of the 4 came.Waited additional 10 minutes for the other 2 plates to come. Are food was cold was sitting on the counter dowstairs as we noticed for a good 10 minutes. Was missing are toast asked about after 15 minutes well the lady was walking by and turns out there toaster is burning the bread. So we didnt get are toast.
Melissa was our server. Food was a very generous size, so much so that several took a to go container. We had 3 different orders, all were outstanding! Love the environment and our Melissa was a great sport even though she was the only one running the ground floor for breakfast. The second floor was hosting a breakfast for 55 people. We will return! Fresh fruit was fantastic!
Food
Amazing food at a great price. Very pleasant staff
Pretty good! The atmosphere was unique for sure, but personally I didn t find the chairs comfortable at all. That being said, the food was not bad! I got the eggstraordinary and it was very filling ($21). The crepes weren t that good if I m being honest because they just tasted microwaved or something . The bacon was delicious and crispy, and I absolutely loved the hash brown potatoes. I really liked the mango razz smoothie ($8) and even though it seemed pricey, the amount you get was mostly worth it. The eggspectation burger ($18) was alright, but the bread was nice! The worst part about this place was the bathroom it was quite gross and not well ventilated whatsoever. It smelled terrible in there and the place seemed like it hadn t been cleaned in a while. There wasn t any soap, the hand dryers didn t work, and there were no paper towel dispensers. That kind of ruined the experience for me, but I think it s still a not bad place to go to.
Excellent food and great service
Beautiful quiet place, rustic style... If you are wondering what to order I suggest the breakfast tacos. If you miss that youre missing something. Big favorite! If my photos convinced you a little would be appreciated
I havent had decent potatoes at a breakfast place in quite a while but these folks lyonaise potatoes are crispy and good. The breakfast tacos were worth eating too.
The eggs benedict sauce is gros. Took forever to get my drinks and my food. The breakfast tovos and chiken and waffles are pretty good i guess. For anyone coming to this restaurant for the first time , have low eggspectations.
Coffee to start and dirty cups and spoons. Food was on the cold side and not great. Server very friendly but it was a slow process. Probably the one and only visit
Pricey...
My eggspectations were definitely not met. Whoever decided to seat people in uncomfortable benches while they eat should get their head examined. Im 5-9 and my legs dangled off the bench. Putting my feet on the ground required sliding forward but this was just trading one CIA torture stress position for another. The food was so-so (veggie omelet was dry, waffle was limp), the coffee was, well, the less said the better. For the price, a poor deal.
Good, well-filled plates! Both for children and parents! A great choice for everyone to enjoy
Very good lunch
Classic American/Canadian breakfast fare. 4 stars because the food was OK not great. Generally under seasoned and underwhelming.
Honestly this place does not get enough credit. Food: the food was fresh and delicious everything tasted very good even the fruit. Service: Melissa was very attentive and friendly Atmosphere: was very intriguing. It is very vintage from the decor to the chairs (not uncomfortable in my opinion). I would love to know more about the history of the building and why it looks the way it does. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options
Super big portions! Be careful with order Its fresh and delicious. Food : 5/5
The food was insanely expensive. An all-american, and an eggs Benedict with fruit was 74 dollars tax and tip in. Service was not great. The waitress forgot our toast and when we reminded her, just said oh yea. And then took another 5-10 minutes to bring it after that. The place wasnt that busy either. The lyonness potatoes were overcooked and crunchy like a potato chip. Overall, this was a negative experience and I wouldnt go again.
Food wasn t tasty, tea and coffee are not included need a separate order. The dish is not worth the price. Coffee is refillable but no body passes by to refill till you finish your meal . The table and chairs are not comfortable and dirty. The whole building is dirty, the speakers on the wall collected so much dust and disgusting when looking around while eating.
halal and great food
Dont go elsewhere for brunch. Devour. Devour. Devour. Friends are optional, but your appetite is not. Consume the succulent food with utmost pleasure and waste not a single crumb.
Food is pricey, and you have to pay extra for coffee. The food was good, especially the French toast was delicious.
Service was very slow, I think they were understaffed or something. Our group of 5 had 3 meals come out significantly sooner than the other two, they waited to be polite but eventually started eating to avoid it going cold and were almost fully done their meals before the other two arrived. One order of eggs Benedict had over poached eggs but otherwise the food was actually very good. Lovely location. If not for the slow/inconsistent service it would have been been different review
Had some great fries until a cockroach joined me on my table
Nice place to dine
So disappointing to hear such great things, see online to ask about gluten free options except when you do ask to be told you can get salad or fruit. Come on. I expect that type of nonsense in rural Nova Scotia but not the biggest breakfast place in downtown Ottawa. Now to go find breakfast - again. Dietary restrictions: Typical ask us only to find out there are limited / none (Celiac disease, gluten allergy) .
Very loud and super slow service but the food is creative and excellent Wheelchair accessibility: Small 1st floor area ok for wheelchair. Larger 2nd floor unaccessible Food : 5/5 |
The tables are not cleaned well. The service is long.
Im a big fan of eggspectation restaurants because of their bennies - theyre amazing. This particular place is nice, staff is friendly. Atmosphere in general feels a bit post apocalyptic which adds an unusual spice
Rundown and dirty with outrageous prices. Walked out before ordering
I always enjoy the veggie crepes. Good place for brunch when you are downtown Ottawa. Vegetarian options: Good selection of items to choose.
Food was absolutely bad. Staff was very nice. What a shame. 65$ for 2 and didnt eat half of the plate
Great breakfast. Surprised with fresh fruit in addition to the breakfast ordered. Noise from the construction going on outside faded away once inside.
This used to be a 3 star for me but post-covid seems to be struggling to maintain relevance. Food portions are small for the price compared to competitors in the area. For better bigger plates in the sugar shack style I would strongly recommend allo mon coco over this. Service was slow and although the venue is kind of cool there were a good few flies to contend with.
do not sleep on this place! I had the Montreal Benny...smoked meat, dijon mustard, swiss cheese?? Yes please! It was so good! pickles on the side, Fresh fruit bowl..everything was great. Order it! you wont be disappointed.
Eggsceptional.
Good space but not what I expected for an Eggspectation. Ive done several before but this one was really different.
Third time is not the charm. Food expensive and no flavour. Cold and coffee is terrible. Service is worse
Was skeptical about trying this place because of mixed reviews , food was good! Ambience is great! Very slow service, long food wait time.
Ok place for brunch. Nothing special.
Everything was really good, but it seems to be short staffed.
We had the Salmon Crostini and Montreal Benedicts. The Salmon Crostini was delicious, it was a tad salty tho it still tasted great for me. The Montreal Benedicts was good however not a fan of it, still good taste just not my cup of tea. We sat on their second floor and service was not as great, not really welcoming. Adding to that when we were led to our table the chair on my side was messy and dirty. Atmosphere felt rustic which was nice and since it was raining the day we came it made the place more attractive, peaceful and calming.
Good food. Went there twice.
Really good place to have breakfast !
The place is very nice. I went with my family for breakfast. I loved the ambience, I loved the sort of industrial decoration of the site. The staff was super friendly and the food was very tasty. My only comment would be that the portion for the kids was kind of small, but still 5 stars.
Good choice for breakfast. We ordered Lobster Benny and Montrealer omelette and both were delicious. I didnt like the coffee though. Service was very nice and quick.
This place is close to work. Today, I decided to take my team for breakfast. I didnt make reservations ahead of time, but I did go in early to let the waitress know I would be coming in with 10 other people in an hour, and she was very accommodating. Everything was set up when we walked in. Great food, portions are big. I did have one colleague who was vegan who had a bit of trouble finding something on the menu, but other than that, everything was great. Dietary restrictions: Not many vegan options.
Good food right in the centre town... nice spot on upstairs by window to enjoy the bank street. Perfect spot for breakfast.we choose the classic Benedict and pancakes.great food and nice ambience inside.
Don t
If you want to overpay for bad food, youve come to the right place! The food was not good and the portions were small for the price. Its not cooked, its more like frozen food that they heat up for you. I would be ashamed to serve the garden salad, lots of arugula, two slices of cucumbers and two cherry tomatoes for $8 (and thats the price for the small one). The bathrooms were extremely dirty, it stank. The service was slow, although the restaurant was not at all busy. (On the other hand, the waitresses were nice, the bad situation of the restaurant is not their fault.) Almost no vegetarian options, that leaves something to be desired. Sorry not sorry, worst lunch restaurant I have seen! :/
$25CDN per person (without beverages) is VERY expensive! Bfast served on a large platter that is 1/3 filled with sliced and deep-fried potatoes. If one likes to eat 1-2 potatoes, this is the place for you. If one doesnt like potatoes, you may want to eat elsewhere. Pancakes & crepes were tough! Literally could not cut the crepe with the supplied table knife! Ham, bacon & eggs were OK. Server was inattentive.
We choose Eggspectation for brunch because we wanted a view - which we did get from the second floor which was neat . However the restaurant seems dated - cracked or chipped concrete in many places. A lot of areas that have not been clean since the restaurant has opened because it s not easy to access the area but is visible to clients. The chairs at the table are very heavy. The table was sticky. The bathrooms were not great. The server was very nice. The food came out rather quickly. The food prices were definitely higher end prices for breakfast dishes. A freshly squeezed orange juice was $9. I opted to get a lunch meal to make it feel more worth it. The fries were good and tasted like thicker hickory sticks. The burger was not great. The Brie burger would be 10x better with a simple 4 ingredient garlic aioli rather than a lemon aioli. You could barely taste the lemon aioli and when you did it didn t taste right. Crispy onions would also be great In there too. The waffles were dry but the chicken was good. Overall I don t think I d return due to better more economical choices around the same area.
Not great, but not that bad either if you need a brunch option quickly. Potatoes are so dry and never fresh. Service is okay but they forget to bring you stuff pretty often. Tables are pretty small for a group of 4. Other than that, it s fine.
Visiting for the weekend and stopped her for breakfast on our second day. The atmosphere was really nice. We are on the first floor but wish we chose the second. The view looks amazing and it s so bright. Everyone s food was delicious. I had the Montreal Benny and I ve never had such a delicious Benny before in my life. I ll want to come back to Ottawa just for this! The staff and wait staff also really nice. The only down fall is the bathrooms did smell heavily of pee.
The service is good but the food is mediocre. I ve been a few times now and no matter what I seem to get, the food always comes out just okay. I ve also found that this restaurant is a bit more expensive than others so I don t think I ll be going back.
Nice ambiance and great service but food quality average
Sometimes its best to play it safe, especially when it comes to brunch. Good Ol eggspectation comes in clutch when youre hungover and the only cure is eggs and coffee. Love their blue berry pancakes !
Great place but only 4 staff so service wasnt that great. The server that we had was doing her best thats why 4 stars. Vegetarian options: Had some. Not much Kid-friendliness: Not so great for kids.
Overpriced, the coffee is extra $$ and the toast is extra $$ It says open at 07:00 but are only ready at 07:30. Music too loud, refreshing the decor wouldnt do any harm.
Been coming here for years and the food doesn t disappoint however the washrooms are dirty and in my mind that s an indication of how the kitchen looks. The room smells of urine very badly. Needs to just have bleach thrown at it and a fresh coat of paint.
Came here for our first breakfast in Ottawa. The tables are dirty, they asked to wipe the table, after which it remained dirty. I had to ask again. There was no decaf latte on the menu, although there was decaf coffee. They refused to make a latte out of it. When the food arrived, the forks were dirty, we had to change them.... the waiters were slow. The food was beautifully presented and tasty, but the impression of the establishment was not very good.
Generous serving of food. Really yummy breakfast plus the coffee.
The workers are so sweet, they make my day every time I go! Food is really good too! Hopefully they bring back the avocado toast meal next year, it was my favorite this summer! Vegetarian options: Very good vegetarian options, and delicious too!
$10 for a smoothie (which wasnt that smooth) make mostly with frozen fruits seemed a bit excessive. The waffle was kind of meh too. The eggs benedict on salmon was decent, however. Including the tip, I spent about $85 for the eggs benedict, a waffle with strawberry and banana and 2 smoothies, which I found a bit excessive for a simple breakfast that was just acceptable. I really liked the place several years ago but the quality of the products seem to have taken a hit so I dont think I will be returning.
2023-10-28: food was underwhelming, nothing special. I asked for extra crispy waffles but they were soft, pale, and limpy instead. Orders were hit and miss... something was missing and something we didnt ordered showed up instead. The only positive thing was that we didnt have to wait for a table on a Saturday mid-morning.
Good breakfast tacos, but loud music is obnoxious. Big, echo-y room with hard floors and ceilings guarantees an atmosphere where shouting to be heard across the table is required.
Very noisy place. Food served cold. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor. Few places, maybe think about booking.
A brunch institution for downtown Ottawa. Expect crowds especially during winterlude. Great atmosphere and friendly. The fruit drinks are fresh and tasty. The lyonese potatoes are a must have. The menu is built around eggs so take that in mind. Parking: Limited parking in the area Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is on two levels connected by a spiral staircase. The lower level has limited seating.
Had eggs benedict, awful sauce, yolk really hard. Waitress had dirty clothes and a dirty apron. Took 20 minutes to get the bill when we were done. Good ambiance, lots of space between tables. Not what we eggspected! Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options
We had a terrible experience here. Not only did we wait an hour to receive our food AND drinks ? When the waitress finally came with the coffee, she SPILLED it on my skirt. I had hot coffee on my skirt and was not offered an apology or anything. The waitress acted like she had nothing to do with it even tho she put the mug on the uneven part of the tables when they touch causing it to fall. No apology from manager either. Appalling service. The food was also very cold by the time we were served
Been here twice for early morning breakfast. The food is very very good. Its a fun space. The reason I am giving three stars is because both times there was top 100 pop music being played at an extremely loud volume around 7:30am. Kind of ruins the relaxing morning breakfast experience.
Terrible drink selection and 13$ for a drink is insane
Had breakfast there. Breakfast poutine was a large meal as was The Classic.
If I could put 0 stars I would, came in to grab a quick bite on my break. Spent almost 20 minutes seated waiting for the server to help me. Did not even acknowledge me (Friday 15th December 12:15pm) really not impressed with the customer service used to be my favourite place for breakfast but I won t be returning after this experience
Unbelievable place! Fantastic food and service. Special shot-out to manager Lyuba Food
