Feleena's in Ottawa

Love this great Mexican restaurant in the Glebe. Fajitas were delicious! Service was fantastic! Highly recommend. Busy place and need reservations on weekends. Server was great and found us a table right away even though the Host was trying to figure out if we could sit inside!

Great atmosphere, great food!

Fantastic food (best Mexican food I ve ever had), great drinks (in Ottawa, this is the place to have a Margarita), service was terrific and friendly, and the atmosphere is really charming - not overly large or loud, and the decor is fun, colourful and makes you feel like you re in Mexico. Definitely among my favourite restaurants in Ottawa.

This was not worth the money. The food had little to no flavour, and we had to ask for hot sauce to add some.

This is a great neighbourhood restaurant with an easy going colourful atmosphere and great mexican food. Service is always great and very friendly. The Mexican flag with black beans and rice is delicious and flavourful. Pair it with a Margarita and its the perfect meal. Reservations are recommended but we were able to get a walk-in table for two on a Monday night.

The owner (Clyde) is extremely rude. He is not mindful, nor demure and spent the entire 2 hours that we were there trying to get us out. I will not be coming back. There is much better Mexican food in Ottawa.

Delicious!

I was really excited to try this place on my trip to Ottawa. We arrived at the restaurant and waited 10 minutes at the door while employees moved tables all around the restaurant. Nobody acknowledged our presence and we were just ignored. Once we were sat, the food was only ok. The guacamole was very bland, it needed salt and lime badly. My enchiladas were tasty but the refried beans and rice lacked any flavor. Overall I was disappointed with the dining experience.

Its the most underwhelming Mexican food Ive ever had. I wasnt going to write a review about the mediocre food but I ended up back there with a friend recently. We wanted to order dessert to go, and the elderly host/server was very dismissive. Not only did he refuse to take the order, but he walked away from us in the middle of the conversation. One must assume he is a reflection of the kind of service and quality of the restaurant overall. The place doesnt have the homely, welcoming vibe that a restaurant run by a Mexican family would have.

I should have trusted my gut when not a single Mexican was in sight among the employees and diners. But I was craving churros and wanted to give it a try. As much as I would love to leave a review on the food, who I assumed to be the owner refused to take my order. When I asked if I could order churros to go, the older Caucasian man became so rude and said it wasn t worth the kitchen s time as they are too busy, and walked away without another word. Horrible customer service! Never going back and will be supporting actual Mexican restaurants in the future.

The food was fresh but small portion. The acoustics were not good and we could hear all the conversations around us. The space was very tight and the waiter for the other table was almost over our table when getting their order. The service was not professional.

I do not recommend this restaurant. We had reservations and although our entrees were tasty, just after we asked to see the dessert menu, a woman (manager/owner?) came to our table to tell us it would take a very long time to get dessert as they were jammed at the front. In other words, get out, we need the table! Our server returned with our already printed bills, we paid and left all within 1 hour and 10 minutes of being seated. No problem, we will take our business elsewhere!

Owner (I assume) came by our table two times to pressure us to leave. We were only at the table 90 minutes. Wont be back.

The food here was amazing! It was very flavourful and had prime ingredients. The portions are what portions should be - not these supersized ones. The churos were Devine. The service was great - I wish I knew our waiter s name, his wit and charm was so refreshing. Keep him! The atmosphere is fun and campy - a little on the loud side, but that s because it s small and everyone is having a great time. Dietary restrictions: They were so accommodating, I have a few restrictions and it didn t fizz them at all.

For our first night out in a while, my wife and I were welcomed and seated promptly. The staff were very friendly and social with everyone, suggesting that they get many return customers. The style of the restaurant is gorgeous, there is not even a square inch of the establishment without colour. The food was amazing, incredibly filling too. If youre into margaritas, Id recommend getting one here. Altogether a great experience that we will be repeating! Update: weve been back several times and are never disappointed.

We used to go to Feleena s often. It has been at least 20+ years since we had been. We will NEVER go back again. We went as a family, there were 11 of us, including 5 kids. The restaurant was empty when he arrived. Our service gave us our drinks and appetizers and then we didn t see him again until we had to hunt him down 1.5 hrs later. Everyone else in the restaurant was served their dinner before we even ordered ours. We told the owner we had been waiting almost 2 hrs for our meals and he didn t believe us and get he had to look at the clipboard of reservations. He then saw we were right, we received no apology, he felt he should tell us he had been the owner for 32 years and owns some Mexicali restaurants. That definitely did not impress us. Every time he would Pass our table he would make antagonizing comments to us. He finally said would 25% off make you happy? We didn t even want to stay at that point. We finally got our food 2.5hrs later, two of the kids didn t even get what they asked for, the food was sub-par. We had to split the bill between three families, the waiter got everything wrong. We didn t bother fixing it because we probably would ve had to wait another hour to have the bills fixed. Worst experience ever! The owner was so rude and obnoxious. It s shocking that he has owned it for so long.

This is the beat place to have mexican cuisine in Ottawa. It s a hidden gem of Ottawa. Make sure you reserve the table on weekend otherwise you won t be able get the table.

A classic! Before El Camino, there was Feleenas. Times have changed but they have not. And why would they? Dont mess with a good thing. I havent had a single bad dish. And they do great margaritas.

I cant believe I waited so long to go to eat at Feleenas. Excellent staff who are so welcoming, and delicious food! We ordered the guacamole, which alone was excellent, but the corn chips were also very good. We also ordered the burrito and the Mexican flag, which we were very satisfied with. Our server was wonderful and I would go back again and again. The interior is very nicely decorated, and though there was no space for us to dine in the patio, that is also a great space.

We walked by and noticed this cute place, we had to check it out. It has so much character inside and out. Margaritas are phenomenal, food was the best Mexican cuisine I ve had in Ottawa so far. The staff accommodated us even though they were fully reserved that evening, they still offered us a 2 hours time slot before they would need the table Which they didn t need to do. The owner checked in at the end, she was very pleasant. The atmosphere was high beat. Will be returning!

Honestly the food is a little bland and just okay. However, the service was great, our server was very attentive and made sure everything was smooth for us. The atmosphere is a fun one for sure, with nice decor.

The portions have gotten smaller since the last time I was there, and sadly for the quality and flavour I don t think it was worth it for the wait or the price :( I got the chimichanga and it had little flavour other than the hot sauce that it was pooled in, and the portion was so tiny! We also ordered chips and salsa and the chips weren t seasoned. I got a sangria and it was watery and tasted more like orange juice than wine. I truly wanted to love it here but it didn t live up to the hype for me

This is a truly unique place in Ottawa, bringing authentic Mexican cuisine in a funky atmosphere. Service style is more like Montreal... Been going for decades. Downside: It is tight and a bit rugged, so not great if you have mobility issues.

This place is gorgeous! It is so artistic everywhere, even the bathrooms. There are murals or art depicting the various aspects of Mexican culture and it is so cool. The food is delicious. The staff are really friendly.

Worst Mexican restaurant I ve ever been to. The service was awful and the food was gross. Our waiter only came to our table twice over the course of 45 minutes and was nowhere to be seen in the restaurant. The food and sauces tasted like they came from a can and the $20 nachos only come with cheese and salsa which is insane. Never again.

On our way to a Hockey Game and stopped for an early dinner. Service was top notch and fast, very friendly staff all around. The food was very tasty too. Hard to choose from so many good options. Highly recommend you book a table as it got quite busy!

This used to be a restaurant I enjoyed going to. However it no longer is. They allow all their spots to be filled by reservations which isn t right. There should always be a certain amount of tables for walk ins. Secondly I had a phone call with them to discuss when was best to go. They said their reservations were full but to walk in. So I did, they said they were full until 8 (I arrived at 6). No problem I understand. So I went back to my car and called them to book at 8. I was frustrated that I was told to come in for a walk in yet their tables were already all reserved. So I expressed this over the phone in a calm manner. The man on the other end responded in a very angry tone, did not let me finish and hung up on me. I am now completely turned off and will not be returning.

The food and atmosphere are great, the only drawback is the lack of a washroom on the ground floor. Parking: There is a city parking garage across the street. Wheelchair accessibility: Unfortunately this restaurant is not accessible, a couple steps to get into the restaurant and the washroom is in the basement

Worst service ever. Food is authentic but the restaurant should feel bad for the service not matching with what they offer. The waiter let us wait for a long time at the doorgate and began to service those who came after us. During the wait time of our order getting here, no water was provided. If you want to feel respected, this may not be your choice. Will not go back:)

Visited from Toronto and was very impressed with the food, drinks and service!! My kids thought it was a bit spicy but they ate anyways!! The decor was vibrant, colourful and even intimate! Will definitely go back when we visit Ottawa again :)

Having lived in Arizona for years I was lucky enough to experience plenty of Mexican diners and for one to be as authentic as Feleenas was in Ottawa definitely came to a surprise. Greatly decorated, food was fantastic and service was good. I will definitely come again keep it up !

Pretty good margarita. I had a chicken breast dish with a creamy cilantro sauce on top, nicely cooked and a good portion size. The servers were lovely. Parking: Free parking garage right around the corner - 2 hour time limit.

The vibe of this place alone makes it worth a visit - the decor is beautiful and the colours are amazing. The food is solid and there s good menu variety, but they felt very understaffed. One server seemed to be seating people and serving all the tables, and while he did his best, it seemed overwhelming and slowed things down a bit. Still definitely worth a visit if you re in the area, or just looking for Mexican food.

This was my first time trying authentic (I think?) Mexican food and I really enjoyed it. I had the chimichanga and also a beef taco. Ive been bugging my gf to come back here ever since.

Amazing eat!

Pros: ordered the chicken tacos (with refried beans) and chicken enchiladas (with black beans) and the portion sizes were quite large for the price, which was very nice! The food also came out extremely quick. I also liked the decor and all the artwork, very colorful. Cons: Everything was extremely under seasoned. The chicken in both the enchiladas and tacos were boiled and shredded with no seasoning. I wish I was kidding, but no. The chicken was boiled and as white as snow. I wanted to ask for hot sauce or even salt and pepper but the server came around twice (once to take our order and the second to give us the bill). She (and the other server) were very nice though. Unfortunately, the whole meal was extremely underwhelming and I struggle to find anything authentic about this place. Maybe a nice place to get drinks with friends but not for a meal.

I had my first deep-fried ice cream here 5 years ago with my now husband. The deep-fried ice cream was delicious.

After walking by many times, we finally made time to visit the always-busy Feleena s. I am so glad we did! This is a completely immersive experience - incredible decoration of the entire restaurant, loud chatter, artwork everywhere, and wonderful servers. The food was so fresh and flavourful, absolutely delicious. Our server was the cheeriest, fastest, loveliest person! Very efficient, and she had a smile and a kind for for every single table she was servicing. Incredible service. I think we ll have to go back a few times soon just to sit in different areas of this fascinating cantina. So much to look at! Edited to add that as hard as it is to believe, our second experience here was even more wonderful than the first! The staff here truly go above and beyond with their friendliness and service. 10/10. Edit: Visit #3 and as good as ever! Parking: Parkade across the street is free on Sundays and after 5:30pm. Some free and paid street parking also available.

I have been going to this place for years and their food is consistently great. I have never had a bad meal from this place no matter what Ive ordered. I am neurodivergent and I feel safe ordering something new at this restaurant because I am confident it will be good. Vegetarian options: Many non-meat options. Not sure if we came on a bad night (Saturday June 10th) but I found it very underwhleming compared to other reviews. They were out of guacamole which was extremely surprising for a Mexican restaurant on a Saturday evening around 8 oclock. Instead we got salsa that was so cold it mustve just come straight out of the fridge, and chips that were hard, cold and unseasoned. I swear Ive had better tostitos that those. I had the Mexican Flag dish with rice and vegetables. The rice was incredibly bland and the vegetables were a little soggy and very cold. The main dish was good but didnt make up for everything else. Contemplating getting a margarita but the $13 price tag put me off. Overall left hungry and ending up getting a Korean corn dog in Centretown that was more filling and a fraction of the price.

Went to Feleenas to get appies & drinks. The service was quick for a Saturday evening. The server was super knowledgeable & her memory was wicked haha We ordered the large nacho - we were surprised by the lack of chips, as it was one large plate with one single layer of chips across with toppings. We also got large chips + guac which came as a fair serving. Our drinks were pretty strong and flavourful. All in all would come back for their guac & chips + drinks.

I had the tester plate and so tried several items, all were good.

This marked the third attempt to order takeout from Feleenas in 2 years. I say attempt because staff seem unwilling to take an over the phone order because theyre busy. I wonder if the owner is aware that their staff are turning away good paying customers? Customers who might add $100 or $150 to the days total sales without adding significant costs beyond the chefs wages and input food costs. Im sure we can find another restaurant that wants to sell food.

I really love this quaint restaurant! The ambience is terrific and so is the food. I usually eat indoors and cannot get enough of the eye candy! Ok the individually-painted art chairs are so beautiful as is the decor. Today we ate outside on the patio and it did not disappoint. I always have the Tequila shrimp relleno. It is served in a cream cilantro sauce and is to die for! I highly recommend you stop by for a bite to eat and a glass of Sangria! Parking: Many spots are free two hour parking

A great gem on Bank Street serving authentic Mexican food. The decor is fresh and inviting and oh so vibrant. Service is excellent and the food is awesome! Large portions are on the menu with something for everyone There s plenty of seating indoors or out on their funky patio with roll out awning Parking: Beware of the street signage regarding parking near or in front of the restaurant. It is all time sensitive, and different depending on which side of the street your on.

We have been here twice in the past two months and being able to sit on the patio outdoors is nice. The food is good but unfortunately for me it is too spicy but others I was with enjoyed it. The service is good and so is the location for people watching while you dine.

Nothing tasted fresh, or remotely seasoned. The steak came marinated in what tasted like tomato paste.

Overall, the encounter was quite unusual: After calling around 11 am to secure reservations, we arrived at 5:15 pm only to find that our names were absent from the reservation list. The owner somewhat shifted blame onto us, suggesting that making a reservation at 11 am was risky due to the kitchen staff handling calls at that time. If that s the case, it would be more effective to either instruct the kitchen staff to improve on their message-taking or advise patrons to call back when someone equipped to manage reservations is present. Fortunately, we were accommodated on the patio. The ambience was notably pleasant on the patio and throughout. The food was rather lackluster. The dishes appeared rather dull and devoid of flavour. I had the chicken tacos for reference. Our server provided an exceptional experience. A peculiar incident unfolded right behind our table. The owner approached two gentlemen and conveyed that while the establishment doesn t impose a strict two-hour seating policy, they do anticipate tables to be occupied for approximately two hours. The gentlemen were in the midst of their meal and drinks, unobtrusively minding their own business. Moreover, there were available tables on the patio, rendering the situation not one where others were waiting for a table. The owner asserted that it wasn t a financial matter and engaged in a minor disagreement with the gentlemen about their duration at the table. The exchange created an uncomfortable atmosphere for nearby patrons and, regrettably, left a sense of diminished value for those of us who overheard the dialogue. All in all, the experience was rather perplexing.

Much-loved glebe mexican restaurant with a particularly nice patio. The core food is pretty good but for us is a bit too filler-heavy for the price. Some of the more interesting options like Mole and various desserts seemed to be missing. I profess mexican is one of the cuisines I am weakest with so I lean more heavily on my wifes opinion of the place to say this.

Good food, good drinks, and good service! The paintings, and furniture gave us an authentic Mexican experience! The wife had the fish tacos, I had the blackened salmon, and we shared the 3-layer dip. Good food and GREAT service! The portions were just right and the fish (blackened salmon and fish tacos were what we had) was flavourful. Our server was wonderful. It was a busy night but she was very quick, very knowledgeable and quick to make sure we and all guests in her seating area were happy (and from her, it sounds like all the service and kitchen teams are the same). The decoration was light and fun and with the service made for a nice evening out. It felt really nice to support a local business that people were clearly happy to work for and made you feel welcome.

Colorful, vibrant and warm atmosphere. The service was timely. Not an expert in mexican food, but the rice was a bit undercooked and cold for my taste. Chimichangas and quesadillas were not crispy and both were soggy as they are covered in sauce. Tasted good but I was not a fan of the texture. The sangrias were average.

Our group of four liked the service and atmosphere, both inside and outside. We didnt have a reservation so had to sit outside which we wanted to anyways. Service was excellent. We tried the margaritas and daiquiri. Both were ok but not excellent and wouldnt order again. Margarita was very salty and daiquiri didnt have a lot of flavour - fruit nor rum. The food was very good. We started with the appetizer mixer plate which was a great size for 4 to share and each of our entrees were great. The enchilada norte was the best of what we had.

My wife and I frequently eat at a variety of restaurants. This was our first time at Feleena s. Below summarizes our experience. Cleanliness: 0/5 - one dog being held by a patron was seen licking their table. Tables in general were not cleaned properly before people were seated. Service: 3/5 - our server was courteous and efficient - he deserves top marks. An older lady who sits patrons and orders people around (both employees and patrons) was loud and rude. Her lack of professionalism was astounding. Food: 3.5/5 - our Nachos were very good but our main course (enchiladas) did not hold up to comparable main courses at other Mexican restaurants we have been at.

Absolutely amazing experience! Delicious authentic Mexican cuisine! I think the chairs were my favourite thing to look at. They were beautifully painted! The staff were all incredibly friendly, and this was by far the best Mexican food I have eaten in the city!

Awsome food and super fast. The service was great and attentive. The patio is a great place with an awesome atmosphere. I highly recommend the appetizer platter if your looking to try a bunch of things.

We usually make a point of going to Feleena to have fajitas when my parents are in town. My parents are elderly folks and my dad is on a wheelchair. Already the store is not accessible but at least we used to feel welcomed. Today was a different experience, my parents don t go out often and wanted to sit on a well lit table as it was a nice day. The owner or manager, I think, old guy at the reception, insisted on giving us the dark table at the back because we also needed space for the baby high chair. He almost ignored us when we told him to try to setup another table in the lit area. If we didn t make initiative to try to convince him; he didn t mind if we just left the restaurant and wasn t giving us any attention. After a while of convincing him, we got the table. Food was good overall, they can do a better job with the nachoes. On our way out, chair on the side were blocking my dad from exiting. The old man didn t try to help at all even though he saw us. Other customer got up to help us instead. He didn t even say thank you or bothered looking at us as we made our way out. On the other hand, he was being funny and joking with other customers. He even made a comment that we should sit at the dark table at the back in case our baby made a noise and bothered the customers as if we were not customers and this is a very loud restaurant to begin with. Overall was not a happy feeling of a family going on an outing on a sunny day. You can do better.

This place was a recommendation from a friend and it turned it to be the best decision we made. It was my mums birthday and we called a few hours ahead of time and they said theyd be able to accommodate us with a celebration in it from them! They let us come in and decorate our table. We ordered margaritas and they were delicious! We had the large nachos, vegetable enchiladas, blackened chicken, Chilli relleno and veggie fajitas. Julian and Diego were the best, accommodating and seriously the best service weve had in a long time in Ottawa! It was worth the price and we will definitely be going back for another special occasion. Vegetarian options: Majority of our food was vegetarian. It was fresh and so flavourful.

Ate here the other night and the service was good but the woman at the door (an older woman) was absolutely horrible and rude to her staff. The food was okay but the restaurant is very dirty especially when you go downstairs you can see inside the kitchen and how dirty it is. Between that and the tyrant at the door I have no desire coming back.

This is a great family owned restaurant. The food is amazing, drinks are great! Highly recommend

Feleena s is an historic Mexican restaurant in downtown Ottawa. They may have the best margaritas in town and their menu has something for everyone Vegetarian options: There are a few vegetarian menu items Parking: There is a city parking lot on 2nd Ave. and street parking nearby.

Very cute vibes, mid food. Chicken Fajita s were $32 for sliced chicken with a bit of seasoning sprinkled on AFTER it was cooked. Fajita s only had onions, which unfortunately were a bit burnt (most fajita s are usually cooked with peppers but these had sooo much more onions than chicken). The amount of chicken you get for that price was really sad too lol. Chicken fajita s were so disappointing and lacked flavour. But the 7 Layer Dip was great! At $18 it was a bit pricey for the portion but it was worth it. The spanish rice was also really good! Service was great, the server we had was awesome. I d go somewhere else if you re looking for flavourful fajita s.
