We are making authentic ramen. Our highest quality broths are cooked from scratch, and our toppings including marinated Chashu and eggs are home-cooked, using premium Japanese imported spices and seasonings!!
Visited on multiple occasions and the ramen here is average. I’ve tried the signature Jinsei tonkatsu and the black garlic tonkotsu - there’s nothing special about either of them. The broth is not as tasty compared to Sansotei which is often busy but worth the wait. 2024-12-08 Edit in response to the owner: While it’s appreciated that you’re reading and selectively responding to reviews for your business, please note it’s not an uncommon practice for restaurants offering similar cuisines to be compared to one another, especially if they are in close proximity by walking distance. All reviewers are entitled to their own opinion and it does come down to individual preferences in choosing where to eat, whether it’s at a small business or a chain. You can still take pride knowing that there are many customers who enjoy your ramen while acknowledging that not everyone will have identical views.
The ramen was delicious! Very flavourful and rich - hit the spot! Both the broth and noodles were perfect. Great atmosphere and pleasant service.
Clean restaurant. Great presentation. Best chicken appetizer and edamame. Loves the spicy bowl. Check out my photos !
This spot has incredible ramen - it’s my absolute favourite in town! Their broth’s are incredibly rich, but no overpowering. The noodles are chewy with a bit of bite, and the picked ginger really adds to the flavours in the black garlic ramen.
We came just as the restaurant opened and luckily no lines or wait. Simple menu, we ordered quickly and wait for the food wasnt long. I enjoyed my ramen however the broth felt weaker compared to its more well known ramen counterparts. Noodles were thick and chewy (personal preference) and the staff were friendly. I must say it was a little difficult to find the place but the signs definitely helped!
Lovely and spacious place inside of a small mall. It can be accessed inside and outside. Not too many options for ramen. The broth was very flavourful and not too salty. I had the spicy ramen and it was the perfect spice level. The egg was included in every bowl and it’s also the perfect runniness. The only thing I was a little disappointed was the dango. Expect it to be a cold dessert and it was not very chewy. It’s also a bit small. The service was stellar.
New best ramen in Ottawa. Sansotei is great, but this place just hits every point pretty much perfectly. Starting with the most important part: the broth. This is good tonkotsu. Beautiful layer of oil on top, and rich meaty flavour. The original tonkotsu is good, but the black garlic is really where it's at. Amazing creaminess and relatively complex flavour. Overall this might be one of the better bowls tonkotsu I've had in Canada for some time. They've clearly put some real work into it. Next: the noodles. These were actually surprisingly good. Definitely the best ramen noodles I've had in Ottawa, and I don't think it's close. They're relatively thin and cooked to the perfect firmness. And finally: the toppings. They absolutely nailed these. Legitimately some of the most well executed toppings I've had on a bowl of ramen. The pork is slow cooked and then slightly charred to actual perfection. SO in love with this pork. The seasoned egg is absolutely perfectly cooked, and seasoned with a relatively mild flavour but totally delicious. And then the addition of green onion and a little bit of pickled ginger kinda brought me back to Fukuoka and is a real blessing to see in a bowl of tonkotsu in Canada. Amazingly executed all-round. Side note: the appetizers and deserts are kinda equally awesome. The karaage is legitimately like crack, and the dango is absolutely delicious. Extremely impressed. Definitely setting the standard for ramen in Ottawa. I'll be back many times. Overall a 9.1/10 bowl.
If you’re looking for a delicious ramen spot in Centretown, you simply have to check out Jinsei. Their menu is small but mighty, with powerful and soothing broths that never come across as greasy or oily. The space is cute and larger than we expected- plus, the staff is so lovely, it’s hard not to fall in love with the place. If you enjoy spice, check out their spicy red tonkotsu- the ground pork and red chili sauce is mouthwatering. This isn’t a must, but I definitely recommend tasting both of their taiyaki (our favourite was the custard)! We’ll definitely keep coming back!
Take-out Jinsei Signature Tonkotsu The noodles and toppins are packaged separately from broth to prevent the noodles from becoming soggy. The fresh noodles were al dente. The chashu was so tasty that I personally found the portion too small. The topping (marinated medium boiled egg, bok choy, brasised bamboo shoots, and green onions) were al dente and fresh. Custard Takiyaki Waffle It was made to order. The waffle was crispy, and custard had the right amount of sweetness. I recommend eating this ASAP, or the bottom will become soggy. Calpico 500ml and White Peach Soda These are popular Japanese brands and flavors. They have a decent taste. Please switch to other Japanese brands. These drinks have artificial flavors. They use syrups instead of plain cane sugar. The sugar content is too high. Please add chilled unsweetened green tea to the menu.
Had the chicken ramen! It was delicious Most things are homemade
Amazing ramen, good service. Portions were a bit small given the price with the dumplings and fried chicken but ramen was great quality and good tasting
Delicious food that was served quickly despite the lunch rush
Definitely the best ramen in Ottawa!! Im really picky about my noodles and broth and Jinsei knocked it out of the park on both. Food : 5/5
Goooood noodles! Could use more protein in bowls. Felt like a bit of a number, get em in and out. Gyoza s need to be cooked differently instead of deep-fried.
Best ramen in town
Off first visit: Karaage and gyozas were alright. Signature Tonkutsu was very good. Note: soft opening Second visit: Black Garlic Tonkotsu, Clam Shio Chicken broth, and potato croquettes were all excellent. Note: increasing rating from 4 to 5 stars
Great ramen place tucked on the second floor just off bank. They have the best vegetarian ramen Ive had in Ottawa. Both options have very rich and flavourful broths and the toppings are good. They do seem a bit pricey for the size (Id prefer they came with more than two pieces of tofu) but Ill still be going back without any complaints because the flavours are so good. Id also love if there was a spicy option for the vegetarian soups (you can add chili oil, but I havent tried that yet). Vegetarian options: Two vegetarian options: creamy vegetarian and miso. They dont come with egg (you can add it on for a charge) and have a vegan noodle option (for a charge) so it is easy to get them vegan.
Already planning another visit to try their other ramens on the menu! Clam and chicken broth with chashu chicken is amazing, so is their vegetarian miso ramen. Highly recommend !
Especially considering the long wait times across the street you can t go wrong coming here. The food was amazing. We got the chicken karaage, the spicy tonkotsu ramen and the black garlic tonkotsu ramen. The chicken was a real standout so juicy and crispy at the same time and the dipping sauce was perfectly tangy. The ramens were both great as well. The noodles were perfectly cooked and chewy and I loved the red ginger on top. I did find the pork in the black garlic ramen to be a bit on the bland side especially compared to every other bite. The place is very clean and I love the wooden spoons and the fact that they deliver your food on trays on carts!
This has to be the best ramen with the best broth in Ottawa. Absolutely love the taste.
The best ramen Ive ever had, in any city. Get the black garlic tonkotsu with bok choy and an extra egg, and a side of chicken karaage. Vegetarian options: The creamy vegetable ramen is a great option.
I prefer ramen in Sansotei and Isshin. They are more authentic. I feel J:unique and Jinsei less authentic.. noddle and soup both were less tasteful than them.
Excellent ramen, attentive/kind service, and a very tidy environment! The spicy red tonkatsu ramen was so flavourful. Unlike any ramen I had before! The black garlic ramen was pretty standard, but very tasty as well.
Wonderful service great food and friendly employees I would definitely come again.
The Staff was very attentive from the moment we arrived at the place, they were always attentive to everything we needed. We ordered Black and Red Tonkotsu The Red Spicy is spicy enough to make you not want to stop eating it and the broth has a delicious flavor. The Black Tonkotsu has a very rich balance between Garlic and Ginger, I just wish it had a little more protein. 100% recommended :D Vegetarian options: They have Options, I havent tried them yet.
The food at this restaurant is really good The broth was very flavourful, the customer service was 10/10 and the restaurant is very clean and organized inside. I give this place a 3/5 because the portions were insanely small. We ordered two Ramen dishes and the karaage chicken, and paid 65$. The portion of the broth was so small that once I added my noodles most of it got absorbed and barely had any broth. I got three thin slices of chicken and it seems like at over 20$ a bowl the portion was really small. It s to bad because everything was nicely, ingredients looked and tasted fresh, but with those prices you are left hungry.
Great place for an authentic ramen soup!
Absolutely delicious meal. We had the Tonkotsu Ramen, gyoza and taiyaki. We will definitely revisit.
Best ramen in Ottawa!
Tried Jinsei Ramen for the first time and was not disappointed! Highly recommend this place. They also have vegetarian options.
Just a bit pricey otherwise really enjoyed, very few ramen places with veg options so that s a plus
Top ramen in Eastern Canada. Easily the best among Japanese ramen restaurants in Ottawa. They make everything themselves! Authentic experience.
I was here for my nephews birthday. I had no idea the chicken could be so soft and crispy at once (chicken kaarage) it was amazing! The goyaza was superb. The ramen was also perfect. Customer service was top notch.
Nothing short of delicious. The broth is real and so savory, the noodles -perfection. Seriously, the broth is thinner than others, but oh so rich, the flavors, impeccable. Ive tried all the ramen places, this place is the .
Ramen here is soooooo good. I had the shio ramen with chili oil and my partner had the spicy tonkotsu. We ate it to the last drop of broth. Best ramen in Ottawa hands down. There chicken karage and the dessert (taiyaki) is super delicious too!!
Absolutely delicious broth. The black garlic tonkotsu is fantastic. Service was excellent.
The black garlic tonkotsu is the best Ive had in town soooo good! Service was great and super fast as well. I strongly recommend to give this restaurant a shot, you wont regret it.
Black Garlic Tonkatsu 10/10, absolutely delicious. Great service.
Best Ramen ever
The Signature tonkotsu ramen was the best Ive had in Ottawa. Miso ramen was also very good. Ample toppings. Very friendly staff. The location is a bit unusual, and the simple decor is plain, but the food was better than the fancier competitors. Not cheap, but worth it for a special night out. Will be back!
The food was good and the service neat. We appreciated that they let us took our time to order and eat. There was no queue so we could just rest and enjoy the food. We ordered a black garlic, spicy tonkotsu and a big mango bingsu that we shared for the dessert. Food
Truly tonkotsu ramen, definitely one of the best I ve had in Canada. Delicious rich broth, tender noodles, and creamy ajitama. High recommended :))
Authentic, clean, inexpensive
Came with a baby, placed an order for just 2 ramens and had to wait more than 40 minutes to get our dishes! Other people who came after us were finishing by the time they decided to finally feed us! Very dissapointing and frustrating!!! Dont go there. Food is just average
Jinsei ramen is fabulously delicious, has a unique flavor. Jinsei ramen is the best Japanese ramen restaurant. Food
While visiting Ottawa, I dropped by jinsei for dinner with my infant son, MIL, and husband. My husband and I ordered the black garlic tonkotsu and my MIL ordered their signature tonkotsu ramen. My MIL enjoyed the ramen particularly since she doesnt like fatty chashu, and theirs wasnt fatty. I enjoyed their broth -- it was thick and full of flavour. However, I did find it very oily. Perhaps the most oily ramen broth Ive ever had. The thing was that it worked. Anyway. It was interesting to see that they had ginger pieces in their ramen. Perhaps to cut the fattiness of the broth? Anyway. I thought it was actually better than sansotei ramen. Coming from Vancouver, sansotei wasnt as memorable. Somehow, I think Ill remember this one. Perhaps because it was extra oily but nomnom good? Anyway. My infant son enjoyed their chashu pieces and their ramen noodles as well. The one thing we thought it didnt help their business was their location on the second floor. It was tricky to come in and leave with a baby stroller. Luckily there was a security who helped us get upstairs using the elevator (due to constructions closing a part of the building that had accessible elevator). When we were getting out, the restaurant worker helped us go down as well. Either way, hope the construction will end soon for guests using wheelchairs or with strollers to visit this establishment. Kid-friendliness: Had high chair Wheelchair accessibility: Had elevator but after certain time, it might be hard to access it. Might have to ask the restaurant employee for help accessing elevator.
The best ramen you ll find in Ottawa. A must try.
Fire Alarm had myself and another evacuated, and they didnt charge us for our bowls. I was mostly disappointed that I didnt get to finish what it is definitively the best bowl of Ramen in the city.
Fantastic! Great service and one of the best ramen by far! Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options are delicious! Food : 5/5 |
Best ramen Ive ever had in my life. Mind you I am only addicted to Tonkotsu so take this with a grain of salt. Best broth ever, very thick and creamy. Eggs are super tender and perfectly done (I think maybe they sous vide them ). Chashu falls apart and is very flavourful. Noodles are bouncy and fresh.
Great ramen, disappointing business practices. My family and I wanted to eat at Jinsei on August 5, the civic holiday. The night before, we specifically checked if they would be open. They had posted on their Google hours that they would be closed for lunch but open at 5:30 for dinner (see photo). We showed up at 6 only to be told they were closed for a photo shoot! Its fine if they want to close for the day, but then why not just say so? Why expressly post that they would be open if they werent planning to be open? Anyway we went to Ramen Isshin in the Glebe instead, and they were doing great business. Jinsei has good ramen, but whats the point if customers cant be sure if the shop is really open?
Sooo tasty!:))
Its really so delicious. If you are Korean, you will definitely be satisfied!! Its the most delicious ramen Ive ever had in Ottawa. It s better than most ramen restaurants in Korea. Im in Ottawa for a month and Ive been there twice.
This is a gem in Ottawa with the best ramen I have ever tasted. I ordered their vegetarian ramen with a creamy broth which was absolutely delicious. I came back 2 nights in a row to have it before leaving Ottawa. The owner is Korean and told me that her family went to Japan to learn how to make authentic ramen. I love how the 2nd time I came back they played Korean OST music and as I enjoyed my ramen, I remembered all the Kdrama I watched. Their mango Bingsoo is also very delicious!!! We will always come back to have ramen here when we return to Ottawa.
absolutely amazing, I swear this ramen healed something in my soul. so flavourful and rich !!!! we were also so impressed by the veggie croquettes! the atmosphere is cheerful and welcoming, the staff are friendly in a very genuine way. Vegetarian options: veggie options are actually thought out, not just the same ramen with the meat removed
The place is chic and clean, service was polite and food came quick! Everything was delicious will definitely come back
It was so amazing!!! Broth, noodles where so well Matched! Highly recommend Food
Seems to be a bit of a hidden gem - despite the neon sign! We both enjoyed our ramen, and I appreciated that they had a couple of vegetarian options. They also allow customisation of the dish with extras (I cant say no to an egg in ramen). Reasonably priced. Vegetarian options: Two options: creamy or miso. Theres also vegan versions for a dollar more.
The ramen is excellent here, 100% recommend. Plus the waitress is super sweet and always smiling :)
The food was really good and tasty, everything was made freshly there. The staff was also super nice and friendly, I fully recommend!
Ramen was good. The place needs more attractiveness and advertising to be known and be put forward. Food
My favorite ramen spot in Ottawa right now. Broth is perfect
Came in and was seated, given water and had our order taken right away, very welcoming, food tasted amazing! Definitely recommend here for quality ramen
Creamy and savory signature tonkotsu. I had a delicious meal. Its so delicious
Rahul was so kind to make me a sandwich even though they were already closed. Such a nice service!!!
Great service, great food, especially the black garlic ramen
It was delicious. I m surprised that there are more Westerners than I expected haha. I was expecting a bit more spiciness, but that was a bit disappointing. Its an unavoidable part of Canada.
Definitely the best ramen in Ottawa! Such rich flavours. Service is super quick and friendly, and we ve never had to wait for a table. The place itself is nothing fancy, but it s really all about the food.
We had a lovely dining experience at Jinsei. The staff were super friendly and the ramen was delicious. We also shared karaage - highly recommend! The ramen portion sizes were very generous.
I went with a friend for dinner and tried the vegan ramen (I think it was the vegetarian ramen with vegan kale noodles). The vegan noodles were FANTASTIC - perfectly chewy - and the tofu nuggets you get with the ramen were also DELICIOUS. The broth was very clean, not greasy. The restaurant itself was very clean, service was prompt, food came out promptly too. Highly recommended for vegan friends, and for non-vegan folks to get into vegan food, one meal at a time :) Vegetarian options: See my main review of the vegan ramen I had! Fantastic. Highly recommend. Try the vegan noodles, you wont regret it. Kid-friendliness: There were multiple tables with kids when I went, and they all seemed to be having a good time. Large enough space that you can be tucked in with your kids without bothering everyone at the restaurant.
Tucked away inside a mall, decor could be nicer/more cozy. Ramen is quite good but not as good as others say, I dont think it beats Sansotei or other local favs; the broth tends to be quite oily. Chicken Karaage was very small portions and mostly breading. Ramen portion is also a little small.
It was delicious! All the staff was very nice and their new summer dessert was really good !
More expensive than Sansotei or Kinton while the portion is smaller than these two:( we are not starving but finished our ramen in 10 minutes
Ramen here was pretty good but not spectacular.
I think I might have found my new favorite spot for ramen in the city. Hidden away on the 2nd floor of a government building is Jinsei. A ramen shop with a small, but simple menu. Don t let it be the downfall because the food is amazing. I got the signature tonkotsu and it was creamy, smooth and flavorful. The pork was that kinda pork where it just falls apart in your mouth. Service from both ladies was amazing, 1 of them actually said to visit her city because it s famous for their ramen as I had mentioned I m going to Japan later this year. Highly recommend this spot.
It was delicious!
The place has a simple decor, but a nice service. Black garlic tonkotsu ramen was really yummy, I loved the broth (it was rich and flavorful). I also enjoyed Tayaki with custard (dessert).
Wow, I visited here with my parents who had never experienced ramen before I was looking for something sweet rather than spicy food, and the reviews and ratings were so good that I wanted to come here! I never thought I would meet a Korean owner I learned ramen techniques myself in Japan and prepared all the menu items, from the broth, by hand. They say you make it We ordered all 4 types of pork base, each with different personalities. Personally, I recommend spicy and black Basically The taste of protein Korean water is no joke. Oh, if you go all the way to the main road, go up the external stairs on the right. Im going to have a hearty and delicious meal
The tonkotsu broth is excellent!!!! Making the whole ramen dish excellent! Worth a try!
The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The food is absolutely delicious with everything tasting full of flavor and homemade, which it is! Definitely a must try!
Impeccable service, incredible ramen.
The pictures on the net do not do justice to the quality and the location may seem...odd, but the broth is creamy and excellent in comparison to other ramen places in the neighborhood.
I tried the shio clam ramen, and it was nice; definitely different than the usual pork-chicken-beef options around Ottawa. The pork chashu was a little dry/overcooked, but the egg was a great texture (not the most flavourful, but seasoned nicely enough). I also tried the karaage and honestly its fine but not great, not particularly juicy or special. I tried both the cream and red bean taiyaki, and they were freshly made but not really to my taste (I like conbini taiyaki though)
Fast service, delicious food, lots of plants :)
Great authentic ramen. Place was empty when I was there (21:00 on a Wednesday night). Hopefully it s not the norm. I ll be coming back definitely. Food
Good ramen in a fairly cold and tasteless setting on the first floor of a commercial building. The dishes are plentiful and good.
Very friendly staff and the food was great!
I was excited to try this place and found it to be amazing! Would definitely go again
I am not a fan of their no back support dining chairs but the food is very good. Black garlic ramen Ill try the seafood ramen on my next visit, at a friends recommendation.
We ordered the signature Ramen. I asked for additional 2 soft eggs (original order comes with 2 half) The ramen was absolutely delicious. Very good broth and good noodles. Meat was fresh and tasty. Definitely recommended.
Delicious ramen and nice vibes.
First time and probably only time coming to Ottawa. Ended up looking for ramen after visiting Parliament Hill. What a gem!! The broth is so tasty like Japan, the noodles and cha shu were made perfectly. Improvements: kaarage could do with more meat less breading and the egg could be cooked less and be more salty. Ottawa Citizen review is spot on.
Jinsei is a good ramen restaurant during weekdays lunch time. There is only 1 vegetarian option on the menu, it would be nice to have more variety of items as well as more variety of vegetables. Good service and restaurant is clean and well organized.
Had the spicy tonkotsu, a very satisfying bowl!! Would go back to try the others.
I ve been to this place 3 times and each time I felt their ramen was really good. Their chicken karage was good as well.
Love this place. Ive had lunch there many times and it is always excellent. Very nice broth not too heavy. It tastes really fresh
Wow, did not disappoint! The clam shio soup was incredibly flavourful and the noodles were cooked firm as requested. I would prefer a bit more flavour in the egg but that is subjective. Overall, I think I found my staple ramen place for when I pass through Ottawa.
So happy to have found this little gem for ramen! We ordered the chicken kaarage and 2 different ramen for lunch. The service was very friendly and our ramen was delicious and very satisfying.
Delicious food and prompt staff!
great service, amazing broth to try!
The best Japanese ramen in Ottawa, Canada
My boyfriend and I agree this is the best ramen in Ottawa! Vegetarian options: The vegetarian ramen was actually incredible! Best Ive ever had Recommended dishes Black Garlic Tonkotsu, Creamy Vegetarian Ramen
Food sooo good I forgot to pay. (When I noticed I did run back in to pay) Vegetarian options: A very good vegetarian option that anyone can enjoy Food : 5/5 |
Soup was rich and flavourful. I opted for the black garlic tonkotsu. The servers are attentive and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our visit. The karaage was tender. However it wasn t crispy and tasted like it wasn t marinated enough before frying. The red bean tayaki was more dense and a bit too cakey than it usually is.
Very comforting and delicious I love that they to use quality ingredients and care what they use/do not use in their ramen thank you!
Best ramen in Ottawa by a clear mile. Love the osmosis water and the rich flavors. The broth is both tasty and healthy and packed with collagen. Also a local business run by a mother and daughter team. Will definitely be returning!
My daughter took me here to eat, and everything was delicious. We are going back again soon
Came here for dinner and got the black garlic tonkotsu and the chicken karaage. The service was also great, very attentive. The chicken karaage is some of the best Ive had, nice and crispy, juicy, with an unexpected but very tasty dip. The tonkotsu had a fantastic broth that was incredibly rich and creamy and perfectly emulsified. The flavor was good, but could have been a bit stronger. There was a lot of black fungus on the dish, which isnt my personal preference, Im fine with some but it was just a bit more than Id normal prefer. The eggs felt a little closer to hard boiled than a jammy medium as well. The noodles were also a great texture and the pork was tasty. Overall a great meal, Id recommend and go back again.
I hear good things online about this place so I decided to try it with some friends. We all had the black garlic ramen and also ordered the chicken karage as a side. It was all amazing. The chicken was awesome but the sauce they bring with it I could eat that with every meal, so good. The pork in the ramen absolutely melts in your mouth it s cooked to perfection. Noodles were great, tasted like handmade noodles. The broth was the best part though. It s amazing on its own but I recommend adding some of their homemade chili oil. Gave it a slight kick that just elevated it to a whole new level. It was the sort of spice that doesn t linger on your tongue and hurt, You feel it more in your throat (I know that sounds weird but trust me it s way better). Highly recommend giving this place a try if you re looking for a meal that ll make you feel warm and fuzzy.
They actually take their time to make the broth which is rich in taste but not too greasy! And compared to some other places, the karaage is very fresh and tender, no weird taste of old oil or freezer. Overall very good quality food, and the staff are all very nice and helpful. Definitely worth all the hype!
Came here for lunch and was very excited to try this place! Was not disappointed. The ramen was full of flavour and lots of noodles. The vegetable croquettes were so crunchy and delicious. Be sure to come a little earlier as the lunch rush was busy! Can t wait to come back and try their other bowls! Vegetarian options: The vegetarian ramen bowl was creamy and full of flavour. Dietary restrictions: Offered to switch pork out for chicken with no extra fee.
Went for the first time and had a wonderful experience Extremely fresh veggies and big chunks of fresh ginger Wonderful customer service and I will be returning again soon
Really a very excellent place. Ramen was delicious. Waitstaff were polite. Definitely recommend. Vegetarian options: Didnt see any vegetarian options but I also didnt look very hard. Would caution you if vegetarian options are your preference. Parking: Parking wasnt easy to find. Being downtown, thats not a shocker. Id recommend using public transportation to save the gas and time it takes to find a good spot. Kid-friendliness: Not the most kid friendly. Older kids would probably be fine.
Their broth is delicious and rich, noodles cooked to perfection and the black garlic ramen is the best I ve had in Ottawa compared to actual Japan. We also ordered the traditional desserts and they are made fresh to order as well. Lots of seating and likely no issues getting a table on a weekday evening. Can t wait to come back!
A fantastic tucked away special noodle house, with that tender homemade authentic ramen flavour! Dont miss this hidden gem Parking: Standard city rules Kid-friendliness: Good space for well minded children
The ramen was flavourful and rich and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Cant wait to go back and try more of their menu.
The black garlic tonkotsu ramen is rich and flavourful, and the noodles were the perfect tenderness. Attentive service & cheerful atmosphere will have me coming back for sure!
Probably the best ramen Ive had in a looong time, but with some fantastic appetizers and a lovely atmosphere too. Staff were so kind and helpful, food was amazing, all around a great time :)
Another excellent ramen in Ottawa, although this may just pull through the rest to be the best. Two things stand out where I expect it to stands out the least: the noodle and the (wait for it...) bamboo shoots. Yep. The noodles is chewy and fresh, downright authentic. The bamboo shoots tasted so damn authentic shows the attention to details to the dishes. Even the taiyaki (both red beans and custard filling) are fresh baked. Top it off with some Japanese craft beer selection and its definitely one of the best ramen in Ottawa. I think the only reason theyre not fully booked all the time is because theyre tucked hidden on the second floor... Vegetarian options: Surprising allergy accommodation is next level here. Parking: Its above eggspectation. Downright downtown. Parking is a pain.
Hands down the best ramen in town. Family-run business with really sweet staff, reasonably priced with very filling portion sizes. Its not a fancy ramenya type of atmosphere but its great for a casual outing.
We had the usual Ramen, but Jinsei now has a vegetarian Ramen option. Havent tried it due to my allergies but I have recommended to my vegetarian friends. The photo is our original and black garlic Ramen with a side of chili oil.
I go whenever I am nearby. It is 100% better than the one on Bank street where for some unknown reason, people are standing in line for. The menu is small, but the ramen is delicious. The broth is rich and flavourful. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. It is truly a hidden treasure.
Vegetarian options: Few vegetarian options. But great Ramen. Food
Super friendly and informative staff. Ramen was amazing (We had the black garlic Tonkotsu) and so were the (freshly made!) desserts
Have been 2x for lunch and consistent experience - Incredibly quick and friendly service. Good quality food and sized portions. We entered up a large flight of stairs so unsure if there is another entrance that is wheelchair accessible - appears you can enter from the street and also attached to the office buildings nextdoor. $50 for two dining.
I had the organic clam shio ramen and it was delicious! The broth is savory and the pork Chasu was so flavorful! Service was fast and super friendly. I appreciate that they were able to tell me what dish sesame or not as I am allergic. I totally recommend!
Really lovely ramen place. Looks super clean. The ramen was delicious~ The clam shio was light and the black garlic tonkotsu was very rich. Both, super flavourful! We also had the gyoza and croquettes. Loved them both~ Ate the gyoza so fast that we forgot to take some. XD This will definitely be my new go-to ramen place! Gonna try chicken karaage next. ;)
Wonderful place to have lunch. The decor is simple, yet very inviting. The ramen is absolutely delicious (I got the black garlic ramen), as are the appetizers (pumpkin croquettes and pork gyoza). Great place to bring friends or dine alone. Absolutely worth going to if youre in Ottawa.
Very nice service, great presentation and very tasty. Will go back for sure.
Had the spicy Red Tonkontsu. Very good! Some of the best ramen I ve had. Will come back again, for sure.
A really good up-and-coming ramen place to contend with the others! Their signature Tonkotsu is really good!
Lemon & Basil, Raspberry & Lime, Root beer,
4.9/5 is to generous rating just the Ramen alone. Atmosphere is great. Service is good. The food took longer than usual. As for the Ramen honest opinion. My party of 3 had 3 different bowl of Ramens. All broths were room temperature. Noodles were slightly under as well. Flavour of broths I have to say were really mild for the type of Ramen its suppose to be. I wanted to try this place as I love Ramen and tried multiple places in numerous cities around the world. I will come back probably in a couple of months to give them another chance. Thank you
Tasty food, friendly staff, and no wait. I dined in, and had a good experience. The signature tonkotsu ramen had a delicious broth, and the other ingredients had enough flavor that they didnt need additional seasoning. Generous portion size. The pork gyoza was a good pairing for it. The chicken karaage was super crispy and savory. I just wish the pieces were a little bigger. This restaurant is a little off Bank Street, and much more spacious than youd expect for downtown. Very fast and friendly service, with no waiting in line. Overall, definitely a good place to check out. Ill be returning in the future.
Super tasty & prices aren t outrageous - really enjoyed my Spicy ramen! :)
MUST TRY!!! I was waiting for this location to open ever since the first sign went up, and boy did they not disappoint. The clam shio is perfect for seafood lovers wanting a light, refreshing meal before heading back to work for the day. The chicken karaage is perfectly crisp, juicy and accompanied by a lovely yogurt-mayo (?) sauce that balances the richness. Will most definitely be returning time and time again, and especially to try every item on the menu. Better than Sansotei in my opinion, Jinsei has definitely claimed the top ramen spot in my books.
The Ramen is rather good but not amazing as the soup is definitaly too fat - american food style maybe? But a good place to eat something quicly
Good price, great food
I just ordered a chicken karaage to complement my lunch, so I was relying on it for a happy meal, haha. Im glad I made that choice, they use the right cut of the chicken, the batter was crispy and tasty, and the cooking was perfect, so as the temperature of it. Would definitely recommend and come back for more :)
Fantastic food. My new favourite ramen shop in Ottawa.
Good ramen! Good service!
very very delicious tasty ramen one of the best I ve had !! the staff here also very friendly thank you so much !
Nice hidden gem in the downtown area. Prices are reasonable and Ramen is tasty.
Walked in and was greeted by friendly staff. I ordered the clam shio and enjoyed the clean yet flavourful taste. The ramen here is a tad more expensive than other restaurants but I liked how the ramen didnt get too salty mid way into eating it, which I find is the case at many ramen shops. We also got the mango bingsoo, it was pretty good, nice and light.
The first ramen joint in Ottawa to offer a hamaguri-based shio tare that captures the aroma of the sea without an overwhelming sense of fishiness that usually accompanies it. The limited selections available speak to the chefs confident sense of craftsmanship and a hint of an adventurous spirit that rebels against the common Ottawa Japanese culinary scene. Jinsei Ramen is worth paying a visit even around the absurd operating hours, which arguably makes it more attractive for ramen enthusiasts.
3.5/5. Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen: fail. Pork Chasiu: thick, tough, meh. Egg: overcooked. Shredded ginger distracts from dish. No seaweed? Broth saturated with black oil turning it into a visual brown sludge and bitter taste that persists, clearly not what it is supposed to be. Vegetable Croquettes: really just a potato croquette, though decent, a little greasy. House made sauce reminiscent of Bernaise. Decent service. Spacious. Nail in the coffin: expensive. Points for opening near busy competitor, but you re better off waiting in line over there. Seems inconsistent based on previous review pictures, like somehow I got a bad ramen.
I got the black tonkotsu ramen and split the friend chicken with my friends. The ramen was very rich, and decent. The chicken was alright. Its a little pricey for what you get.. but the service did make up for it. Im not sure if Id go back, Id maybe choose to go to ramen further down Bank.
Really good ramen and karaage! Service is really nice as well. The environment is also very spacious so it doesnt feel so claustrophobic like some other ramen places haha. Food : 5/5
Had the black garlic tonkotsu and it was so good. The noodles were al dente, and the broth was rich and most importantly not oversalted. The marinated egg was good and the pork melted in my mouth. Overall solid ramen and I would come back! Server was awesome and very friendly!
Very rich soup base. We both got black garlic tonkatsu, with a watermelon soda. Croquette is half pumpkin half potato and gives it a sweet taste. Kara-age s sauce is very unique and refreshing. Great experience
The best ramen place in Ottawa. A lot better than Sansotei ramen. Especially the broth was amazing! The bingsu was really good It was a bit confusing to find the restaurant tho
Veggie ramen was amazing! The tofu nuggets are delicious and the broth is great.
Probably the best ramen restaurant in Ottawa thus far. Clam shio ramen had a clean seafood based broth. Mango bingsoo dessert was a cherry on the top to complement my lunch. Our server was so attentive and super helpful.
Solid Ramen spot in the DT core. Really enjoyed the black garlic dish
Amazing ramen, very nice staff.
My new favourite ramen in Centretown. Bouncy noodles, perfect toppings, and most importantly the broth is not too salty!
Loved it!! My Black Tonkotsu was so fresh tasting and flavourful, definitely worth the stop in! My belly is very happy now!
Delicious food, perfect portions, and great service: looking forward to returning as the weather gets colder!
The place is at the second floor / food court area. I was very quickly served and not long after received their signature ramen! They do NOT use msg (thanksfully because i react to it). Broth is delicious and warm, noodles taste so fresh, all ingredients are great! Will definitely come again :) Also comes with wooden chopsticks and wooden spoon on a nice tray, presentation is great! I forgot to include a photo because i was too busy devouring the food
Very good restaurant, the server was super nice ready to answer our question and she was pamper to show us her culture. Also a clean place !
Best vegetarian ramen ever Amazing service Food
A family owned ramen shop. Trained in Japan and a large enough seating capacity that I am not always stuck waiting for a table.
Find the entrance carefully! restaurant admit
Very good vegetarian ramen! The broth and the tofu nuggets were excellent. I recommend adding an egg!
Incredible tonkatsu broth - rich and creamy, but not overly salted. Opening dinner night on October 14 had ramen at 50% off, can t go wrong.
Food court elevated. The Clam Shio ramen is top tier. Broth is perfect to the last drop. Noodles are nice, and having fresh green vegi is a gift to the body. I can eat this everyday. Oh, and everything else is good too.
Great quality of Ramen. As a Japanese, this is very authentic!
Rich tasty broth, nice atmosphere, would definitely come again.
I found it a little expensive but honestly, this is an oasis in the Ottawa bad ramen desert. This is not Monster spicy beef mountain ramen!!! This is tight, 5/5 standard by which you judge all others. Kitchen was extremely quick, broth was hot and noodles springy. What else could you want??? Clam Shoyu was delicious. Tonkotsu had a little black pepper in it as a nice surprise. In and out in 30 min.
Hands down the best tonkotsu ramen broth in Ottawa. It is Japan level good. Deep and rich porky flavour, good amount of collagen for that rich and satisfying feeling and properly seasoned. I cant overstate how hard this is to find here and how happy I was eating this. One small critique is the chashu could be fattier. In Japan you would use either a fattier shoulder or pork belly. I realize the local customer base may find that too fatty :( Also ordered the clam broth ramen. Very tasty, clean umami taste. Very enjoyable as was the karaage with the house-made mayo. I wish the karaage portion was a bit bigger though :D Overall excellent and my new go-to place for ramen in Ottawa.
Was okay. Gave less broth for tonkotsu ramen... pretty pricey for what it is. Nothing special.Gyozas were decent
Veryyyy good ramen but disappointed at the portion sizes. Ate here at noon for lunch and was hungry by 4pm! However , the broth is probably one of the best i ve tasted in ottawa!
Delicious ramen, very friendly staff/owners and clean restaurant. Lots of seating no wait when we went on a Friday evening. Will definitely be back. Its easy to find, walk up the stairs near eggspections entrance and you will see the door to enter Kid-friendliness: They had bowls, utensils and cups for kids
Delicious and excellent service. I will definitely return
The creamy vegetarian ramen was really good, every part of the dish was made with care and well seasoned.
Simple menu but who needs lots of options when every dish is great. We got goza, spicy and plain raman. The goza were the best Ive ever had and the raman hit the spot. Somewhat difficult to find but well worth the adventure to find.
Exceptional food. Excellent service. Ordered a bowl of the Signature Tonkotsu Ramen. Ive had similar ramen bowls, but this was the best. The portion size was modest for the price, but this was offset by the phenomenal flavor. This is soup youll want to eat slowly. The broth was absolutely delicious and the pork melted in my mouth. I cant wait to try out the other menu items!
Best ramen in town! Better then the nearby famous ramen restaurant. The chashu is chewy and tender, with a little taste of grilling, very nice.
We really liked all the food, but in particular we liked the marble bottle Remune drink!! I felt nostalgic as I had drank from similar bottles long ago. Vegetarian options: Limited options, but what was available was tastefully done.
This independent business has thought about everything as well as genuineflavour. I dont eat wheat and Im offered extra vegetables or a bowl of rice. In fact lots of ways to add even more veggies if thats your thing. The broth is phenomenal and the meat delicious (or you can pick vegetarian). Dont be put off that the restaurant isnt at street level. Its cosy warm and run by a family who pay attention to detail and to your satisfaction. You find it by following good signs and lights from the east corner of Laurier and Bank.
The ramen broth is rich and delicious. Located on the second floor, worth the food.
I ate dinner here with my husband and we loved it. The service was fast and the staff were all so warm and friendly. The restaurant is spotless and feels incredibly clean and comfortable. Great music, good vibes, incredible ramen. We got the black garlic tonkatsu and the creamy vegetarian ramen and they were both delicious. The tofu nuggets in the veggie ramen were amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Best ramen in the city! Family owned and everything is made in house. Wayyyy better than the chain establishment down the street and no lining up in the cold. Food
Great tasting ramen (especially the broth and green onion) with friendly service. Would come back.
Possibly the best ramen in Ottawa and run by people who clearly care about the details. A few popular appetizers and extras on the menu as well. Licensed and offers some interesting nonalcoholic choices too. Opening evenings, despite the lunch-oriented location. Recommend!
A cute restaurant hosted by honest and hardworking employees, offering delicious homemade ramen for all who enter. The broth and meat stand out in particular, offering deep and delicious flavours and fresh presentation. A hidden gem nestled on the second floor of an otherwise underwhelming government building. You should definitely check this place out! Would recommend 10/10.
AMAZING!!!! its so good they have the perfect variety of ramen. And the karage is delicious, the original ramen has creamy rich broth and tender pork. The plates and dishes they are served in are gorgeous. The interior is fabulous, and super fast service. The staff are all so friendly. And I can say as a student it is a bit pricey, but honestly so worth it. The food is fresh and clean tasting. Thank you so much for this amazing experience
First time at Jinsei Ramen, but definitely not the last! I ordered the signature Tonkotsu and the chicken karaage while my buddy had the black garlic Tonkotsu. Both our dishes were amazing; the broth was flavorful and filling. The chicken was perfectly fried and so tasty, specially with the dipping sauce. Service was great and quick. Strongly recommend!
Awesome place. Their osmosis water was peak, the ramen was even better, service was lovely. The warm soup hit absolutely perfect when we stumbled upon their sign on a cold december day. Simple menu but every item on it will not discourage. You WILL NOT REGRET, THE EGGS WERE CRAZY GOOD.
Tastes average, very small portion food, lunch portion for the price of dinner and bit more. Drink comes in original bottle, feel of a restaurant and fast food place.
Great ramen and wonderful service. Less of aunch wait than other nearby ramen restaurants and not sure why.
The Ramen was so good and outstanding service.
