NeXT in Ottawa

Didnt actually eat at this place. But I certainly intend to go back to eat. Was working an event and just watching the beautiful dishes coming out was scrumptious enough. Everything looked like they were right off a magazine cover. Their Sunday brunch looks to die for, just by reading what is offered up. Hopefully soon.

We had dinner and it was a very fine dining and romantic evening. It wouldve been better if the server had some more assistance to make the service for personable but he did an excellent job of getting orders right and also recommending a vegetarian option. My boyfriend and I had a fantastic experience there. Great oysters!!

The atmosphere was elegant, vert quiet and intimate. Service was wonderful and attentive, informative and knowledgeable. One of the best meals Ive experienced outside of downtown. Actually for the money it was reasonably priced and good value for the portion size. For being in the suburbs is was the best hidden gem Ive been too. Highly recommend!!

I have followed him from his days way back at NAC when I first encountered his talented cuisine. Our selection last night qas the chefs blind choice. 8 separate courses 4 savory & 2 sweet. Each course was shareable. My husband and I otprdered this 3xpeeience. Each and every dish was intedelicious and the presentation of each dish ws elegant in its simplicity of presentation. The restaurant environment welcoming and fresh in styling. Each staff member I encountered were gracious, accommodating and professional. We will return soon. Outstanding Customer Service! I ve never experienced service this exceptional anywhere else. My husband and I celebrate every wedding anniversary at Next, and for our 10th, Chef Blackie personally served us such an honor! We were so captivated by the flavors that we forgot to take any photos. The blind sharing menu is our favorite, and we were thrilled to see the deep-fried cheese curds back on the menu. The service has always been impeccable. We felt warmly welcomed and truly enjoyed every delicious dish. I was particularly impressed when a guest at the table next to us mentioned her steak was cold Chef Blackie immediately replaced it with a fresh plate within minutes. Incredible attention to detail! We ll be coming back for many more anniversaries!

The food was utterly abysmal, an assault of grease and salt with zero finesse. Hard to believe the host shelled out $20,000 for this catastrophe of a reception. As someone who s dined at countless fine establishments, this stands as the worst experience I ve ever endured. Thankfully, I didn t spend a dime on this debacle. Do yourself a favor and steer clear if you don t want to destroy your wedding meal and memory.

We ended up here when our plans fell through and WOW, what an experience. The food was incredible (GET THE BAO BUNS! TRUST ME!) And the service was amazing. Chef Blackie served our table at one point. This was a wonderful accident. We are so coming back.

Extraordinary experience! We hosted our daughter s engagement party for 35 people at NeXT a week ago; everything was perfect. Right from the planning stage to the close of the event, Gillian and the staff were excellent, attentive, and accommodating. We were especially pleased with the menu request accommodation and attention to dietary restrictions. Guests raved about the food and overall experience. Highly recommend! Vegetarian options: Accommodated our request for a mostly vegan menu. Everything tasted delicious!

I had my wedding reception here, and everything was so great we came back to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary! The atmosphere is awesome, but even more so the service is outstanding and the food is some of the best Ive ever had. Hats off to Chef Blackie - an overall phenomenal spot to eat at NeXT!

We had a takeout Thanksgiving 5 course dinner that was absolutely awesome. It was hard to choose our favourite course. The seasonings were delicate and creative but really enhanced the flavours of the food. An example was fennel in the cranberry sauce. The portions were generous and everything was excellent . Even better, the hard work was done and everyone could relax and enjoy the fellowship and food. Our son and his wife previously enjoyed one of your dinners and so decided that they would try it again. What a superb idea! We were privileged to be invited!

Amazing date night with my wife. The chefs choice meal option is unique and with the wine pairing it was just exquisite. The tastes all came together. Outstanding food and service. I will be back.

Got the shared taster menu with my wife. Most of the food is fried. Not impressed! Huge disappointment! Was very excited to go based on my last experience. Service good.

First visit here and 3 of us went for their Blind Sharing Menu with 3 flights of wine (chefs choice). Be aware that this concept has nothing to do with the more common Blind Tasting Menu w/wine pairing. Nexts sharing menu is, literally, just that - you share whatever is presented to you. It ended up being a LOT of food, and a mish-mash of odd things. None of it memorable, sorry to say. The strangest being 2 bowls of plain french fries us 3 were to share mid-way service. What an odd choice! And, btw, those 3 wines really had nothing to do with the foods on offer.

I had the privilege of dining out with my daughter and we chose to try Next . Each of our chosen dishes were beautifully presented and the quality of the ingredients and taste was superb. However, the true stand out of our experience was our server Barb - she definitely raised our experience to exceptional!

NeXT was the perfect venue for our wedding, I cannot recommend them enough. The staff were very professional, and kept everything running smoothly. Jillian, the coordinator, was fantastic and met with us several times beforehand to ensure everything was exactly how we wanted it. We also appreciated their flexibility and willingness to accommodate us, including some minor menu changes. They also worked with us to drop off our decor in advance (which they set up for us), and gave us plenty of time the next day to pick it all up so that we didn t feel rushed. The food was also delicious, and they were able to accommodate the dietary restrictions some of our guests had. One of my favourite things about hosting our wedding at NeXT was how much they took care of: the florals, the catering, drinks, linens, booking the DJ, and hosting our actual ceremony. It removed a major planning burden off of us, and allowed us to enjoy the day. We feel the amount that we paid for the wedding compared to the value we got for it was so much better than the other venues we looked at. If you are looking for a modern, well run location with excellent food, I really recommend NeXT.

We came for a birthday dinner and enjoyed the blind tasting menu. Chef Blackie just so happened to be looking after us and it made the experience all that much better. Our first time but certainly not our last.

Went there for Sunday brunch, that s the pic of all the food that was served. The creame brûlée was something we paid in addition. It also comes with tea/coffee/juices. Sounded really great in theory so we were super excited. Food was small in quantity with very high intensity too make up for the quantities, it s either too salty or too sweet or too greasy to make up for the quantity. All the dishes that you see in the pics are to be shared in between 2 people. The servers were really nice, although the settings were ok. We had a dirty mug in our table for tea to start that we had to ask for replacement and the glass water bottle seemed to have accumulated reddish tint from usage

The food and service was fantastic. We had the tasting menu and it was worth every penny. Lots of variety, things maybe we wouldnt normally order but loved...everything was spot on. Great place to go if youre in the West end.

We celebrated our anniversary at NeXT, where the exceptional service and friendly staff made our evening memorable. Despite us being late, we were warmly welcomed and seated promptly. Our server expertly guided us through the menu, and we enjoyed the Kapow Cauliflower and Char Sui Crispy Chicken Bao Buns as starters, which were deliciously flavourful with a perfect balance of textures. For the main course, we ordered the Schnitz, featuring a crispy schnitzel, creamy gnocchi, and a rich chèvre sauce, complemented by a sun-dried tomato and green olive butter. We also ordered the Tempura fried green beans and prawns in Thai red curry, intensified with kaffir lime leaf, which provided a spicy kick, while the enoki mushroom and mint toss offered a refreshing crunch. Served over jasmine rice, the dish brought elevated flavours of Thailand in an extremely satisfying way. NeXTs unique flavours and bold combinations left us wanting more, and we extend our gratitude to chef/owner Michael Blackie for bringing a truly special dining experience to Stittsville. Thank you!

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding/reception at this restaurant and event space could not have had a better experience. The atmosphere was wonderful, the food was incredible, and the staff were absolutely amazing. Each dish served was better than the last, I can t wait to come back to try more of the menu, I have no doubts each dish is spectacular. Notably, we had a server/staff member named Roosevelt that made our entire tables night an unforgettable experience. While the food alone would be enough to have us return, his attentiveness, rapport with our table, and overall exceptional service would have us return on its own. Can t wait to come back and hopefully see Roosevelt again!

This place was definitely upper crust and worth the wonderful google reviews that it has been getting for over a decade. I left a message asking for as quiet a spot as possible because my 96 year old father is hard of hearing. I think every staff member in the place was aware of the request because everyone made an effort to speak louder to him and ask if he could hear them. I was touched by their attentions. And of course the food! The food was delicious! I couldnt give a 100% 5 star because I dont personally like the open concept dinning experience that they have set up. It becomes too noisy. A suggestion...put something up along the ceilings to baffle the sound such as cloth sails. But 5 stars to everything else!!!

Mediocre food and mediocre service, pleasant atmosphere. I can t say anything was bad, but everything was underwhelming for what is meant to be a fancy restaurant. Asked to START with oysters, and then tartare and the bao buns. Tartare came out first, then the buns, then the oysters after 10 mins. The cold dishes should come first, so that the warm dishes don t cool down while you have multiple dishes on your table. The oysters should be on ice so that they are balanced, when they got to the table one of them was already half spilled onto the plate. At least the mignonette was really good. As for the mains, the presentation of the halibut was brutal, it looked like someone had slammed a burrito on the plate and then served the fish on top. The halibut was a little overcooked but all the flavours worked really well together and it was still delicious. The duck confit had a much nicer presentation, it was tasty but some of the duck was more like jerky than crispy as described on the menu. I m not a hater but I don t see myself going back or ever recommending this place to anyone, I did feel let down. For the price point, there are wayyyy better options in the city. For a special date, try Fauna, any of Becktas restaurants, e18hteen, Whalesbone.

I recently was treated to Mothers Day brunch at Next. It was my first time visiting this restaurant and I cant recall when I had a better restaurant experience. I was blown away by how amazing the entire team was. The food is outstanding and the level of service was impeccable and even on a busy day, there was zero wait time for my reservation and for our food. Kudos to this restaurant for the innovative menu, the quality of ingredients and phenomenal service provided.

Tried to book a birthday dinner for 7 (5 adults and 2 children). I was told on the phone that 7 or more guests require a sharing menu at $97 per person. I said that one child was 5 years old and the other 10 years old. I was told there is nothing she can do. $97 for a 5 year old seemed a little extreme. I mentioned I had been coming there several times a year for the last 6 years. She seemed completely unfazed and with no attempt to try and help me out she said Have a good day! Food is amazing and service is usually better than this, but $97 a plate each for a 5 and 10 year old, come on NeXT, be better!

NeXt restaurant provided an exceptional dining experience for our first wedding anniversary. Opting for the blind tasting menu, we relished a series of unique dishes that were as delightful as they were surprising. The added touch of flowers and exemplary customer service truly enhanced our celebration. I highly recommend NeXt for a memorable and enjoyable culinary adventure.

This was my first time at this restaurant and the staff where great. My table had a nut allergy and they changed the menu with no problems and even went as far as to come back and said they have an epipen on hand made us all feel safe. The food was amazing the flavor and quality just stellar. I will be happy to come back and try the dinner experience. The starter watermelon salad was the best byte.

Had the 5 course brunch. Each course has 2 different dishes. You share with one other person. Loved the eggs Benny and blueberry pancakes. Everything was delicious and nicely spaced out. Portions were perfect.

After much thought and many visits to different venues we chose Next for our daughters wedding. From the moment we walked in to meet with Jillian we were impressed with the level of professionalism and caring that we received and decided that we had found our venue! It was a small wedding of just under 50 people but it looked spectacular, Jillian was so kind and helpful with every little detail which made the experience so much less stressful. The food was amazing and guests commented that they had never had such amazing food at a wedding. The serving staff were so courteous and efficient and no one was waiting on their meal. A few guests had allergies and Jillian let us know that the kitchen would have no problem accommodating them. If looking to book a beautiful elegant wedding with lots of room for dinner and dancing then Next is the place to go. Jillian made the experience amazing and we could not have been happier. Her attention to detail was amazing and she is so kind and knowledgeable about every detail! Truly was a magical evening!!! Thank you so much

We visited for Easter Sunday Brunch and were thoroughly disappointed. This is a rare negative review for me, as I prefer to provide feedback in person. However, three out of five of us experienced severe food poisoning. The cleanliness of the restaurant left much to be desired. Water glasses had a strange smell, and the coffee mugs were stained with lipstick. The service, while friendly, did not meet the high standards the restaurant claims to uphold. Staff seemed untrained, which was surprising for an establishment that markets itself as high-end. In terms of value, we paid $98 per person, including taxes and tip. For this price, we expected a much better experience. The food quality was poor, lacking both creativity and flavor. Overall, our experience fell short of expectations, and we would not recommend dining here.

A special thankyou to the entire staff at Next for a wonderful meal and fantastic dining experience. We celebrated our daughters birthday yesterday and our experience was top notch. A very special thankyou to Barb who served us and made our evening exceptional, i cant say enough about her wonderful personality and attention she offered our family. We will see you again !

A lot of food, need to have good appetite for Sunday morning brunch, price reasonable, floor manager is great.

Attended organized event. Four course meal offered. Service was good. The salad and soup were delicious. The entree left a bit to be desired. Could not tell if it was a schnitzel type preparation however the meat and coating were overcooked, tasteless and the oil used for frying was overheated and partially burned the breaded coating. The gnocchi served with the meat were chewy and heavy. Dessert consisted of creme brulee. The cream part was delicious but the glazed candied surface was burnt and had to be removed. The execution left to be desired. Some would label this a high end venue. I would suggest the kitchen staff need to pay attention.

NeXT is one of those rare restaurants in Ottawa that combines great atmosphere, delicious food, and amazing staff. Chef Blackies recipes are internationally inspired and well thought out. The Sunday Brunch is NOT to be missed!!! Parking: The restaurant is surrounded by a huge, free parking lot

Very good customer service

Weve had the make at home meals from here before and they were very good. This is a good venue that had decent food and service. Plates are not huge, so theres room for dessert. I enjoyed the rib eye, although I do prefer my steak uncut (unless its Wagyu). The carbonara was good, especially with the sugar snap peas.

The tasting blind menu was incredible. Our server Barb was super friendly and professional.

This is a review of the NeXT take out. We ordered the Just The Two Of Us special of 7 dishes to share for a very reasonable $87.00 (plus add tax and gratuity). It was fabulous.Truly fine dining with a host of flavours, colours and textures. I am a pretty good cook but this was way above my skill level. It was lots of food for two and in fact we will make another whole meal out of our left overs. We will be back.

My family and I have been here many times. I have never been disappointed. My two favourite servers are Dale and Barb - they always make the experience welcoming. Friendly but not too familiar. They are pros. The food is always terrific. Chef and his team has it dialed in. The Tuna pizza is phenomenal. The crispy confit - fantastic. Ribeye....can never go wrong.

Upon arrival, we were seated along the north-east wall. Although there were many tables-for-two open when we arrived, we were squished between two other occupied tables with a shared wall bench. When I asked about the bookings for the evening and mentioned my unhappiness with being sardined, the person seating us said they expected a full house and walked away. This set the tone for the meal. Our intention was to enjoy the table dhôte but we decided at that point to just select an entree and leave as soon as possible. Table service was fine. The crispy duck leg confit was beyond crispy, it was dry and portioned small, even for duck. Flavour was good but needed to be less dry in my opinion. The braised lamb shank was amazing, perfectly prepared and portioned perfectly for sharing. Presentation was artistic and the accompanying sides for both dishes were outstanding. Separate sauces and grainy mustard were lovely touches. This was our first time at NeXT. There appeared to be several seating areas. I will ask to be seated in the solarium next time (south), as our location by the wall at the north-east lacked warmth (ambiance, not temperature). Our seating was 6:15 PM. As the sun went down, the restaurant area got darker and darker but, because of a warehouse feel, was too dark even with the table candle. When we were leaving, we noted there were still tables open that I feel would have been more appropriate for us. We could not have a private conversation as it was like our dining neighbours were sitting at the table with us. Maybe because of the long wall bench, this is an area designed for families with small children or large groups where tables are joined? In summary, good to excellent food with solid presentation, price point for quality was acceptable, service was fine, atmosphere was modern industrial where we were seated. Bathrooms were clean, ample parking.

This was a really cool experience. The Sunday brunch tasting menu came with five waves. We were told that the meat (minus the pork) can be requested to be halal (which all the meat in the pictures were). Definitely worth a try!!

We took part of the valentines day set menu and it was by far the Best meal weve ever had. Chef Blackie was kind and accommodating even though the menu was a set menu for the evening. It was a delicious 7 course (plus one small bite) that was incredible with every bite. Highly recommend.

We booked brunch about 1-2 months in advanced because we heard great things . We were disappointed in the service (or lack thereof) . The decor and service is cold and uninviting that it ruined our experience . The price point for brunch at $55/person seems reasonable for the quality / portion of food (looks small , but it s plenty of food), but would have had a better review if our waiter was tentative to our needs , our drinks filled up regularly , we had been checked on or even if he explained what he was bringing out .

I took my daughter here for her birthday in Nov 2023. The staff were glorious with the perfect amount of engagement with us as we relaxed and enjoyed the dégustation menu. The flight of wines were curated well to go with the marvellous food. We have already gone back, the last weekend before Christmas, to have their brunch. Again, the food was delicious and the staff were a real joy. Both efficient and attentive. I should note that I had booked through the OpenTable app, or I thought I had! However the brunch booking had not gone through properly and I hadn t noticed that I did not receive the usual confirmation. Nevertheless we were taken to a table, and made us feel welcomed and special right away. I highly recommend NeXT for a quiet dinner with someone you live, and any function you may wish to host. We will be back again in the New Year, of that I ve no doubt.

Still No Response Bad Customer Service!! Not like the first time!! The first time we went to NeXT was an amazing experience. The food was 110% Service Top Notch and Drinks were great. Second Ball Dropped 30-40% Called for reservations and made clear Nothing under cooked and everything pasteurized. Wife is Pregnant . Did not ask to take our Jackets . Forgot to see it was our anniversary on entry, Did correct after 15 min . White wine not chilled or tested . The salad came with Feta Cheese witch she cant have! Way to much Vinegar . Bread with Mushrooms was good but both sides bread Hard burnt not soft . Steak Raw wife is unable to eat, was remade and served. Head chef face disappointed . Coffee had no kick Great atmosphere, Good music, They never contacted us. I guess that shows the service!!!

We are originally are from Montreal and moved to ottawa recently. We were under the impression that ottawa has no good restaurants until we tried NEXT . Michelline star food was served on the Sunday brunch menu we tried . They respected our dietary restrictions. Good food with good hostess (Annabella)elevated the experience. We will be regulars here.

Got the Christmas take home dinner this year and it was excellent. All courses were delicious and prepared with care. We couldn t get enough, thank you!

Booked a table here on a Wed for a special meal. I would not recommend this place. The food was not at the level you expect for a $250 meal for 2. The Good: Concept, Service and Location. The Bad: Value and quality. - We had the blind tasking menu $85/person excludes drinks. - Duck salad was more like a duck jerky salad.. It was cold and hard. - Cauliflower swimming in sauce is not a dish. - Portions were small and not of the quality expected. - Drinks, overpriced and lacked care. Overall, the concept is good and wait staff did well, but the kitchen and bar really didnt live up to expectations. I would hope you take this constructive criticism to focus on areas that require improvement.

Will definitely not be going back!! Not worth it at all. If you get drinks expect to pay about $300 for two people. The food was cold and very disappointing. The service was even worse. The presentation of all the food was very awful. When I made reservations for 6:45 today I mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday and asked for a cake/dessert with candles. Instead for dessert we literally get a bowl of melted rum raisin ice cream and another awful bowl of two coconut balls in some creamy sauce that was not appealing. Then a couple minutes later our server comes back with a plate of mint m&ms and a piled of smashed ones with a candle inside. I was so embarrassed and disgusted. I didn t like how she had a strong cigarette smell as well. Very disgusting and not professional at all. It took three hours to eat and get the bill due to awful service. Will not be coming back and overall very very disappointed!! Especially considering I came all the way from Tennessee and wanted to take my boyfriend to a nice restaurant for his birthday.

Amazing food. If looking for prep from home food options at Easter, Mothers Day, or Christmas, while having fun, this is a great option in the Ottawa area. You can pick up or they will deliver.

Planned and ordered the blind tasting and it was perfect! Only thing is we felt a bit rushed. There wasnt really a reason - it was a Wednesday night, 6:30pm, maybe 6 tables. But food was coming out fast and furious! I also would have loved a little card or something with the ingredients - I didnt really remember what the server described after he left. We were finished after about 1hr15 after we got our 1st plate, which seemed really fast for 9 plates/5 waves. Also, made a note in the reservation that it was for a birthday, but there was no acknowledgement of it. Not that I wanted a song or anything, but some recognition that it was a special occasion would have been nice. These are super minor complaints though. This was our 2nd time here and well definitely be going back!

Food is interesting and varies from time to time. But some dishes do not wow me. Just a personal preference. Ill love 1 dish and have mediocre response to another. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Its a big room and noisy so atmosphere does not suit me sometimes. Its more of a experience than a fine dining experience.

NeXT has a very interesting menu and everything that weve tried has been done very nicely. Their focus is on small plates and sharing plates, so three or four dishes per couple is a good rule of thumb. The service is also very good.

Money grab; terrible dining experience; unfriendly and rude waitresses. The greeting we received when arriving was unfriendly and cold. Almost seemed like we were inconveniencing the waitress. A few of us went to NeXT for dinner. Two of us opted for the blind tasting menu ($80 per person), while I ordered something else from their menu. When the dishes arrived, every now and then I tasted what our group was sharing. One of the two waitresses kept staring at me and a moment later, overheard her tell the waitress whom was serving us ... well shes eating with them. Where on the menu does it say I cant eat from the two servings they are brining us? Is this an all you can eat sushi type situation? If thats the case, then we shouldve been told that. What difference does it make if I eat from the blind tasting menu or not? Its the same portion or serving for the two people receiving it and theyd be the ones to decide whether or not I can take from their food. Our waitress a moment later came to remove the plate and attempted to remove the cutlery out of the way when really she was trying to prevent me from eating from the two shared plates we received. I couldnt believe it - for whats supposed to be an upscale restaurant and the amount of money were spending? As for the food: Half of the main course was left uneaten... We got a dessert that was fried. All one could taste was the oil from the fried dessert, and nothing else. It was awful. Not just myself - the entire group didnt take more than a bite of it.

Had a great meal as always at NeXT. The kitchen was a little slower than usual as they had just started a new menu well worth the wait tho. Three of us had the chefs table with two apps to share then the mains were an awesome selection of roasted duck, chicken schnitzel, Icelandic cod. We finished off with three sweets to share.

My family and went here for our Mother s Day brunch and it was absolutely amazing! The staff was amazing and the chefs were amazing! The music was very nice to hear as well! I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant to anyone looking to have a wonderful experienced dinner with their family ! So glad we were able to get a spot! Thanks again to the staff for such an amazing experience!

Another wow! evening at NeXT with friends. Every bite was a culinary adventure, and a delight to the taste buds. Sauces and condiments available to take home! I had the baos once here, and the bread was rancid. I was too shy to say anything, but also its a bit odd for the bread to be rancid when this is a nice expensive restaurant. The blackies chicken is very dry and it feels like there is more bread than chicken. Unfortunately you can get better general tao chicken at a food court or a chinese take out place. Its surprising bc Chef Blackie worked in Hong Kong. Its also intimidating writing an honest review bc Ive seen the owner comment on 1 star reviews and they are really mean and rude, such as making fun of the person. I hope they can take this criticism and improve. I will say that when they had the Sunday brunch it was really good and I enjoyed it. The venue is also very nice. Also, the gift cards dont go towards tax/tip which I found to be odd and annoying. I dont think many places do that. Like gift cards for goodfood from Costco for ex, that can go towards taxes.

Our dinner tonight at Next was outstanding. Just a wonderful evening. The food was fantastic. The sharing menu is so fun. You cant imagine whats coming out next to your table. The service was top notch. Wonderful anniversary celebration! Thank you Chef Blackie and all your staff.

OMG. Don t know where to begin. Guess from the start. Owner Michael introduced himself to us with a very welcoming smile. Restaurant is very classy with great ambiance. Beautiful looking bar. Michael recommended few dishes and gave great suggestions to order 3 dishes for us ; 4 in the group. All the appetizers and main dishes were par excellence. Lavender cocktail was superb. Service was top notch. Michael came over to our table to say good bye as he was leaving. Extremely impressed with these personal touches on top of excellent cuisine and ambience. A must for everyone who enjoys fine dining experience for a great value at the same time. A definite repeat for us.

Good service but it was about the only thing positive about our experience at Next. The food left much to be desired with little menu variety and few choices for those of us who can t do spices. Only one of our appetizers was very good with the others being just ok. In addition our main course was overdone with dry chicken, no subtlety to the sauce and no flair to the dishes. The bare, dark surroundings with reverberating sound hampered conversations..Overall all three of us were very unimpressed and would never go back.

We arranged to have a vegan tasting menu. Each course was a delight. Wonderful flavors beautifully presented and well balanced. It wasnt just a rehash of a regular menu minus protein which you often get in a restaurant when you request vegan. The menu was thoughtful. Thank you. We will come again!

Best food in Ottawa!

My husband and I got married at NEXT on May 27th and we could not recommend it more to any potential couples. Jillian was phenomenal to work with. She was communicative, organized, and quick to respond to every call or email. Both Jillian and Michael went above and beyond to work with us to achieve our vision. On the day of, she ensured everything went smoothly and we got to fully enjoy ourselves and be present in the moment. It was truly stress free on our part! The place was beautiful and we got nothing but compliments for choosing such a nice venue. The food was also fantastic and the servers really made sure our guests were taken care of. Dream duo to work with on all fronts.

I recently tried NeXT with my partner and we loved it! Everything was delicious, the service was great and it was an overall great time. It is on the more expensive side, however it is an upscale restaurant with incredible food and service, which is reflected in the price. Highly recommend! Especially for special occasions We will be going back!

Went to Next last weekend after not being there for a few years. As I looked at the menu I said to my wife that I now remembered why that was. The menu offers little that s appealing. We ordered a few apps and a few mains and shared them. The pasta was the only thing I would say was decent, though nothing special. Everything else fell short, was unappealing, over seasoned or just not tasty. I have eaten at a lot of the best restaurants in the city. Michael Blackie used to have pedigree, being among Ottawas top chefs. It would seem he is resting on his laurels or was never really as good as he was hyped to be. After we finished our mains the server came by and asked how everything was. I said just ok. He didn t enquire further. I would give this place a hard pass. So many other really great restaurants in the city. This is not one of them.

Greeted at our table by the owner/chef. Great service from Dale. Knowledgeable and friendly. Shared the tasting menu which was terrific. Tried things that I never would have tried on my own. The pace was just right. Great value for money, too! Will definitely go there again.

Had a great experience with the multi course Brunch tasting menu. Reasonably priced for the amount of food provided (we tapped out and took the dessert courses home). Standouts were the Pad ka pro, Ribeye and Fried chicken, but there isnt a miss on the entire menu.

Ok Michael what an evening ! You are not getting older you are definitely getter better ! We had the surprise tasting menu ( we just couldn t decide which delightful dishes to choose) Every dish was a taste treat : fresh flavours, interesting textures, spices and preparations oh my ! Sorry -not sorry- we closed the place ,we just couldn t stop nibbling at all the delights .

Went for Brunch, left a changed person. Easily one of the greatest dining experiences I have ever had. Owner checked in and was kind to share his recommendations and explain each dish. I guarantee I will be back. I found a new favorite restaurant.

We attended for an event, but got a chance to check out the menu too. Its definitely not a cheap place to eat, but the choices looked excellent and appetizing. Our event food was pre-selected, and was amazing. The prime rib was one of the best Ive had and the rest of the food was equally delicious. The service was fast, professional, and super friendly. We had kids in our party and they were very accommodating for us. Overall an excellent place and experience. We would love to come back to try out some things in their restaurant.

My husband and I visited NEXT as part of a collaboration ( @agata_and_warren_travel) We were so impressed with the whole experience! First of all, the location of the restaurant is so convenient. Right in Kanata with plenty of free parking. We explored the Sunday brunch tasting menu, offered in five waves. There were too many dishes to list, but some of our favourite were the beef, the shrimp, and the cauliflower. Chef Blackie is absolutely brilliant at combining different influences from his travels to create a truly spectacular menu. Moreover, he immediately makes every guest feel at home. No one is ever rushed at NEXT. You come as a customer but you leave as a friend. We cannot wait to go back! Kid-friendliness: Yes. High chairs available

This is a great restaurant to visit. I would recommend the price fix menu where you pay and get dishes in different waves. All the dishes presented were well plated and delicious and the portions were perfect. I had just enough room for dessert at the end and was satisfied with my dining experience. I recommend this restaurant for great food and a great atmosphere. Food may be a bit pricey but it s worth the money. Our server was great as well and food came out in a timely manner.

Food was ok. Owner double booked 2 weddings and was woefully underprepared. So the wait times were atrocious . Also the chef/ owner? got, and kept quite an attitude when 100 or so of us were not cramming into the space fast enough for his liking even though they overbooked. Having been a prep cook the food was ok but not for whats being charged. On the plus side our server was Stellar

Excellent. The salad was absolutely incredible, yes, a salad! The baguette cheese was a great compliment to the salad. Halibut was meaty and a good portion. Aged beef was delicious with an ample serving. Crème brûlée and MCB was a great way to finish the meal. Cherry bourbon was a great cocktail. Service was amazing. Just go and enjoy.

Brunch was not very good. Way too much food, and way too big of portions. Thought the food would be more refined and gourmet.

Have dined at NeXT several times over the years either from birthdays, staff dinners or weddings. Chef Blackie never fails to give the most welcoming and fun experience. I love doing the blind sharing menu they offer because everything is just so delicious and I m able to try a bit of everything. Recently took my picky husband here for his birthday and happy to say he loves dining here as much as I do.

Went to have the blind sharing dinner. First time trying the blind sharing but not our first time at Next as well had our wedding there. The service was exquisite and the food was delicious. The portions were generous and enough to enjoy between two people.

Had a lovely first-time dining experience at NeXT this evening for my Hubbys birthday! Greeted by nice smiling hostess to start! Cocktails *tasty, full flavoured spicy caesar & an excellent old fashioned served complete with stem cherry and dried citrus rounds both in crystal highball & crystal lowball glasses (with upscale garnishes* just perfect) I notice the little details, much appreciated! My sons ginger beer was a nice non- alcoholic choice and paired well with his main dish. Appetizer was super! Kapow cauliflower, it made me actually enjoy cauliflower ;) We had excellent main dishes of deconstructed sushi tuna pizza, chicken schnitzel with a sage gnocchi twist (instead of spaeztle) and miso short rib with napa & edamame. All very delectable and seasoned just right and very approachable. Was nice to see an eclectic menu that wasnt pretentious. Ambience was superb. That dark but good, gloomy sophisticated & airy dining room with the best music playlist in the backround, peter murphy- bauhaus, killing joke, general public, ub40, all their down-tempo melancholic song vibes that blended seamlessly with the evening. Service by our gentlemanly server was just wonderful. He was helpful, polite, approachable, so efficient and just a pleasant person to help us. Since my husband is adhering to a keto diet a birthday cappucino complete with a candle on saucer was a very nice personal touch to our celebration. Thank you very much to our server for that thoughtful gesture. A new favorite spot! Will be back for sure and would recommend for cocktails, supper, a special date for two, a big celebration. Just Bravo!

Barb selected a perfect table for our group based on questions that she asked and we were very impressed with our Blind Sharing dishes (and very appreciative of Barbs explanations of each one). She made our celebratory dinner a wonderful experience for all.

We have been to NeXT a few times. We really enjoy going there for a double date without the kids. Everything we go We have a wonderful time. The servers are very friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely spectacular. Even if the menu seems out of your comfort range, I would strongly suggest trying the sharing option. The food is very approachable. The flavors are not so exotic that you need an incredibly refined palate to enjoy them. This is easily one of our favorite places to go for our adult night night.

Not a great place for vegetarians. Place and ambiance is great but not their vegetarian food Vegetarian options: Not the place to go for vegetarians. Cauliflower soup was over salted, and vegetarian on-tray was mediocre. Desert; oh Tim-bits and could have been a better option than god knows what they served. Came home and was sick all night could not sleep (suspect some food poisoning or an allergic reaction) Starters: cauliflower bites and spring rolls were great. Staff were very friendly and kind

We went for my birthday last month and our visit was perfect from start to finish. Our server, Alex, was prompt and attentive. Our entrees were delicious and I loved the fun twists of some of the cocktails. Who knew sake would be good in a caesar?! But the tartare was hands down my favorite part of the meal, best Ive had in years! Thank you for a fantastic evening, we cant wait to come back. Cheers!

Fabulous experience last night for our girl s birthday dinner celebration! We had amazing food and drinks and service from Chef Blackie himself. Thank you for the best evening and dinner! Cheers

To be honest, we had a party there last year and the food and service were awesome. This year, the food was not even good. Duck salad was flavorless and dry, and the beef entre was dry. Some of the appetizers were good, but the rice rolls were cut into 1 inch by 1 inch and without sauce, so it was just eating plain vermicelli. I was so disappointed. Im not sure if there was a change in chef or trying to cut cost. Last year, my friend was glutten-free and he was provided with a plate of glutten-free appetizers...this year, the server said you get whatever we bring out that is glutten-free... cauliflower in wing sauce.

I dont like the taste small dishes.

My husband and I have had incredible experiences at Next! Chef Blackie takes great pride in creating unique dishes that are sure to please even the most particular foodie palettes! Food was amazing. It may seem pricey, but you definitely get your moneys worth. The 8 course blind menu is a lot of fun.

This was our second time doing the blind tasting. This place has an excellent atmosphere, great drinks, friendly informed servers and very very good food. Just one thing we didn t love, however it was a clever move was the turkey in one of the courses. (It was thanksgiving weekend) besides that always excellent.

We recently had our wedding at NeXT and it was A DREAM COME TRUE!!!! Our coordinator Jillian was fantastic to work with! She was kind, caring, professional and extremely organized. She kept me calm during stressful times because let s be honest planning a wedding is no a walk in the park! She made sure everything ran smoothly and set things up exactly how I wanted it. Chef Michael and his team put together an INCREDIBLE 4 course meal, our guests could not stop raving about the food! Thank you Jillian and Michael for all your hard work! Our wedding couldn t have been more perfect and we are forever grateful!

Its a bit noisy and hard to have a conversation. Its also a bit too dark. My friend and I had to use the phone flashing lights to observe the good.

Fantastic Place. We had our wedding ceremony and reception here. The venue is amazing, Jillian and Michael are wonderful to work with and the food is to die for. We received so many compliments about the food and venue. Jillian was fantastic to work with. She is so detailed and organized and may our day go so smoothly. They also took care of each guest and made sure everyone was catered to and all food allergies were addressed. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Dont know why some people are raving about this restaurant. I would not recommend to my extended family! We had dinner here a few days ago and I would describe the food as ok, not extraordinary. The prices are not aligned with the actual ingredients used. For example, the crispy duck let confit was served with basic white beans. By the way, the duck was dry and impossible to chew. We also tried the crispy chicken, pan seared cod, beef tartare, kapow cauliflower and shrimp + chorizo croquette. Our waiter told us that we were ordering in an unusual pattern (meaning appetizers as well as main course was ordered at the same time)! I think customers should be served what they want. Great food with great service, worth the trip!

Based on reviews I was really looking forward to this meal. All the food when it finally arrived at our table was on the cool to cold side. I felt like we were eating a poor quality takeout. I selected my choices - the kapow cauliflower and blackie s chicken based on reviews. My partner felt he was eating leftover/reheated duck. Maybe it was a really, really bad night for the restaurant. I had intended on giving a family member a gift certificate for Christmas but unfortunately, I couldn t do so now.

We attended a Christmas party last night and we wanted to shoutout Julie for being so considerate of my dietary restrictions (if this review was based on our experience with only you, the rating would be much higher.) Each time a round of food came out, she was very attentive. Other staff members had tried to feed me the same as everyone else without reading my name tag that had in big, bold black letters NO DAIRY . I was often fed last at our table as each time we had to double or triple check in with Julie, as no one else knew what was going on. This should have been handled better. When the main dish was being served, again I was almost fed the same dish as my partner and when we asked if it was the dairy alternative, all we got was a deer in headlights look from every wait staff member in sight. The food was taken away and given to another party goer for the same thing to happen again, at least once. Finally my confirmed no dairy plate was served (by Julie), well after the rest of the table had their food. About part way through my long awaited main course, I came across a long black hair at the bottom of the plate, between the chicken and mashed potatoes. We looked for Julie but could not find her, so my partner motioned over another member of wait staff to let them know. They were pleasant enough to him but no apologies were provided to him or to me and their only solution was to feed me something else (no offer of what that something else may be, or for my original dish to be made again). At this point of time, we were very turned off and whatever trust I had left was gone.

We were at NeXT for an event recently, I am shocked at all of the positive reviews. The atmosphere was nice but the food was mediocre AT BEST. Not only did it lack flavour but the cook on our beef was inconsistent, mine was medium-well and my husband s was raw and inedible, the gravy was greasy and under seasoned, veggies were bland and over cooked. Appetizers were good, the salad was good and desert was good but the main was horrible. The reason for a 1star review is specifically chef Blackie. His arrogant attitude was horrible and sucked the energy out of the room when he entered. We were there for 4 hours and I saw him berate 3 different staff members publicly, one of whom was in tears. To be clear the staff were extremely busy and doing a good job. There is never an excuse to treat employees in that way and it completely ruined our experience. I would never go back to NeXT and have been sure to share our experience with family and friends.
