Open 7 days a week!
Came here after a great birthday dinner next door and sat at the bar. Had amazing service from both the bartenders and loved the ambiance inside! Hoping to come back and stay longer than one beer next time
Loved the atmosphere and especially our attentive wait staff. Auguste was amazing making sure we didn't get lost with 2 large groups in the house. Yes, the menu is not huge but there is something for everyone. We shared the tartare. It was delicious. The mussles were excellent and shrimp tacos probably the best I've had in a long time. It was the perfect place for us for an early dinner. The patio was very popular but don't miss checking out the really cool decor inside.
We went there early on a saturday (5PM) after looking at the charcuterie online. Took a 5 meal plate along with some shared plates. The food was delicious. Very balanced tastes all around. Decent selection of craft beers (Mostly local!) and a good selection of cocktails as well. I would also like to point out Rebecca's service. She really took the time to explain to us the different options, going out of her way to make sure everything was good several times and generally just being extremely proactive. She also asked us if we had any plans after and giving us general advice based on her experiences in the area. I read reviews before reserving here and even though I'm sure food and services are deeply personal experience I'm confused as to why people would rate this place 1 or 2 stars it really doesn't make sense to me.
Prohibition Public House! First time here and I just had to take photos! Hope I did them justice. Everything looked so inviting, but ultimately I decided on: Delicious yellowfin tuna crudo with crème fraiche, bites of orange, a hint of ginger, paired with sourdough bread; and beef tartare topped with an egg yolk, stone-ground mustard, and capers. Food was not only impressive in taste but also in presentation - beautifully plated. I went on a warm summer evening, and was warmly greeted and immediately seated at their covered patio out of the direct sun - as I requested. Servers (a gentleman with blond hair and a lady with long dark hair) were respectful, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. Excellent service. Atmosphere was lovely. Great place for a date or to celebrate special occasions with family. Can't wait to try the other dishes on the menu! 😊
The amosphere is spectacular. Food is okay for me. Like the fruity taste drink they recommend.
To start, we had been looking forward to trying this place as we heard very good things about it. We are not picky eaters and have very few restaurants that we would not return to. Unfortunately we left very disappointed in the food here and won't return. We ordered three shareable plates and the trio cake dessert. The dessert was delicious, but it was made by another business, as mentioned on the menu. The tuna only tasted like the olive oil it was sitting in. With the tofu, the only flavour was the basic mustard and onions that were generously applied. The other item, risotto balls, were very bland, cold, and the only real flavour was the cold marinara sauce they were sitting on. If you are looking for a place to go for a great atmosphere, drinks and a dessert, I might recommend this location. I did have a delicious mocktail. The shareable plates were a very big disappointment, especially given the price and extremely long wait times in service. Overall, I would not recommend it.
Despite the lack of hot food options as a result of broken hood vents, the cold food menu was phenomenal. Highly recommend the $70 charcuterie board along with a local cider. Drew and Katie were wonderful servers and hosts; they were a huge help in making the night relaxing and delicious 😋
I’ve driven past this place numerous times and FINALLY stopped in on a warm patio afternoon. Staff were all amazing, friendly, and added the extra ‘punch’ to superb service. Sam treated us like we were part of the Prohibition family from the get go, and was by far one of the best! Shareable plates of tartare, salad, mussels, and shrimp tacos. These dishes are not ones to be missed, along with their amazing craft beer and drink menu! Come, sit and enjoy one of everything…we only live once. Best part-all locally sourced! #supportlocal. Absolutely will come back again…and again…and again! Shout out to the chef and kitchen who created such art…that we devoured! A girl couldn’t ask for anything more for an after cancer-radiation birthday meal ever. What an amazing gem in this city’s food scape ❤️. Kudos to all.
Delicious and filling!
Great atmosphere
Amazing food and a great place with awesome drinks and bartenders!
Absolutely beautiful atmosphere, everyone is super friendly. The food is exceptional as well. Definitely recommended.
It came highly recommended for a very good reason. Ive already made reservations to return ...
Brought 6 friends for dinner who have never been to Prohibition House before. Three people ordered the brisket ($45 + tax) and it was dry and tough. We mentioned to our server (Chiara) and also to another server (Drew) that we were unhappy with our meals. Both were dismissive. The restaurant had the opportunity to make it right but chose to do nothing. Unfortunately, we will not be back.
Its a beautiful place. Been there more than 5 times. Today were with a company of 10 people all went perfectly, thank you very much for the excellent service and atmosphere. We will be back again
A wonderful place with a cozy atmosphere and lovely interior. The staff is friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome and comfortable. Perfect for meeting friends or enjoying a relaxing time. Definitely coming back!
What an absolutely terrific spot. Great staff and great food.
Really excellent! Highly recommend! Their drinks are excellent and a great price for the quality. Atmosphere and service were exceptional! Keep up the great work!
Food and drinks were outstanding! I could eat the warm three sisters salad daily! Great service.
Great restaurant! Brisket was top notch and drink menu had a variety of options. We will be back!
45min for a goat cheese salad to come on The table without any goat cheese on it. They told me the goat cheese was in the salad dressing... trust me they are not generous with the salad dressing .I been working in the restaurant industry since 20 years and there is way better spot to get food. What a shame. Never again ! For the price I
The cocktails were great. Food is overpriced. The squash in the 3 sisters salad was undercooked, and the fries tasted like they had been fried, refrigerated, and then refried. They were not edible. Burger was good once you got to the aoli in the middle. The server was thoughtful and kind. Not wheelchair accessible. The front door is up half a flight of stairs. If you manage to get in the front door in a wheel chair, hope that you dont need to use the bathroom on the second floor. Super cool atmosphere. Kid-friendliness: No kids menu. No wifi. Wheelchair accessibility: Not at all accessible. The front door is up half a flight of stairs. If you manage to get in the front door in a wheel chair, hope that you dont need to use the bathroom on the second floor.
Just swinged by for a drink Fun spot specially if you are in your I want to be able to hear my friend talk era The music is not too loud. The lights are not too bright. Its a perfect chic lets get a drink bar. :)
Never had a bad experience here. Food is always good and fairly priced. Servers are a delight and cocktails are phenomenal.
I took my 11 year son for an early dinner as he wanted to try venison. Prohibition house had venison tartare AND venison burgers ~ both were delicious! But more than that, the glorious humans who served us were so kind and helpful and attentive towards my son food adventure night - they made it a memorable experience for him. Also, the ambiance in the small bar side was fantastic. I would give a rating higher than 5 if I could! Great experience!
I enjoyed it BUT they were aledgedly rude to Trevor Smith who looks like a well-known sports broadcaster...see his review below...so I had to deduct a star from my rating. Otherwise good stuff yall
The vibes are immaculate here! Would recommend the duck confit - perfectly cooked and served with a fresh piece of buttered sourdough, just divine. The cocktail and wine list are large enough but not overwhelming and those we tried were fantastic. Service was on point too.
Sam is absolutely unreal. Amazing vibe here over all.
Would recommend! The Pineapple Margarita is delicious!
Low quality and expensive, Not recomended, Food
Delicious food!!
Loved brunch The salmon eggs benny was 10/10. Great service, great sense of humour, and didnt hurt that Fred was easy on the eyes!!;) Highly recommend if youre in Ottawa! Food
Terrible food! Bad drinks! Vegetarian options: Worse baba ganush I have ever had, it did not taste like it had any eggplants, bland, disgusting thing Food : 2/5 |
Thr service is phenomenal, good music and the cocktail menu is awesome.
Not enough staff, they have a beautiful set up and servers seems to know what they are doing but they can do so much when the place is full !!! For the price the experience was not worth it but I would recommend for a looong date when it is beautiful outside patio is beautiful but make sure conversation prevents you from drinking at a normal pace
Amazing place, awesome venue and great staff. Had the brisket, the celery hearts were delicious and the brisket was delicious. The guy at the bar was awesome, and the espresso martini I had was delicious. Food
I love Prohibition as a whole, but I find some visits to be lacking. It s been a while since I ve visited again after slightly poor service. Still a fun place but can be hit or miss.
The charcuterie is awesome!
Its been awhile since Id been here last so I decided it was time to try this place again. I have gone semi-regularly since it opened as my partner knew one of the owners (possibly previous owner as I believe Jamie is somewhere else now) and we wanted to show our support. We have generally always loved our visit and the food here at Prohibition. I was there awhile ago and didnt have a great experience, but I would generally prefer to let the owners know about the issues rather than just leave a review. First off, the service is still impeccable! I have always loved the laid-back and friendly service here and the gentlemen who served us on my last visit (wish Id remember his name) was excellent! Also, the atmosphere here is amazing, it brings me back in time as there are a bunch of rooms, a lot of wood, and it has (to me, anyway) an historic feel--playing on the name of the business for sure. So the atmosphere is top-notch and really enjoyable. A few people in my group liked their food, but a couple of us decided to have a mixed salad which sounded really good. Unfortunately there wasnt much in the salad (the menu stated there was cheese, nuts, fruit etc) but we all noticed it was pretty much just the lettuce and not much else. We even had to ask for more dressing because it was quite dry, but I do understand that can be a personal taste. Im not one for a lot of dressing on my salads, so if I am asking for more dressing thats a sign it could probably used more. Anyway, for those of us who had the salad we were extremely disappointed and I believe it was over $20-25 for the salad as well. I didnt say anything to the server as it took a long time for our food (understandable as it was quite busy) and I, personally, didnt have time to wait for something else. I then decided it would be best to email the establishment and let them know (I work in the industry and I know they prefer to get feedback directly, especially if a customer is unhappy). They did reply fairly promptly and thanked me for writing them which is nice, but then all I really got in reply was: Well take it from here!, thats it. Nothing to fix the issue, address it, or make us want to be happy or go back. I may still pop in with friends for a cocktail every now and then because their drinks are really fun (and they do great mocktails as well!), but I dont think Ill eat here again. Its too bad because it really is a beautiful spot!
We stopped for a drink after dinner in the area, and found the staff welcoming, friendly and caring. Beautiful decor, nice ambiance, and attractive menu. And once again, the bartenders were both so friendly and gave us several recommendations, both about their menu and for outings in the area. We will come back to it!
Drinks are very expensive and overpriced for what you get. I paid $22 for a mule for some reason and it was a single. Very disgusting to overcharge customers and also have a rude server. Will definitely not be coming back to this place and will be spreading the word around Ottawa to NOT come here, ever.
Met some friends on the patio for a drink and snacks. Nice seating area, spacious and comfy. Shrimp tacos were delicious! Would definitely return and recommend to others.
Innovative food, great atmosphere, tasty drinks, worth the price
Great vibes. New menu with a lot of great options. The food is great and so are the drinks. They are t skimping in quality at all. The brisket was fatty but delicious. Will come back often to explore the menu further.
Brunch here was 10/10. It was a quiet Sunday, but the vibes were immaculate. The service was amazing, and the bottomless mimosas were tasty! The delicious food was the cherry on top. Definitely recommend.
Impeccable service, courteous, cheerful and always with a smile. Attentive waitress. Very good food.
Great place for a relaxing evening. Sangria and snacks were lovely and the service was solid!
This place should be a cocktail bar and not bother serving food. Had some wonderful cocktails, they were made to perfection. Sadly the food was a whole other story. Ordered appetizer and mains. The food was dry and over done, you dont need to burn the asparagus to get flavor out of it. One of the worst meals I have had in quite some time. The service was decent, they tried to offer free sweets to compensate for the lack luster food but at that point we were worried about how much worse it may get. If I return it will definitely not be for the overpriced food or whatever they call it.
I loved the place the atmosphere is magnificent
Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. First time trying this restaurant. I cant wait to return! Highly recommend!
Amazing food and amazing service from our waiter Sam who was super attentive
Enjoyed the tasty food and the service was great thanks to Sam!
Food was delicious and had a very nice presentation. Service was also very good. The weather was perfect so we sat outside on the large patio. The 72 hour smoked brisket was very good and so was the beef tartare. Nice selection of microbrews and IPAs.
Excellent service. Sam was great! Excellent food. Very good atmosphere. We really liked the old building.
Been here a few times and the food and drinks are consistently mid. The server was a bit disrespectful, which made the vibes even more unpleasant. Would recommend trying any of the other restaurants along Somerset and, if they re full, venturing down Bank St instead.
Came here about a week ago with a few friends to celebrate a birthday. We arrived at 8 pm and did not get the food until 10 pm -- thats literally 2 hours of waiting. We had drinks in between and they were good and the server did all she could to serve us. However, it was a long time to wait for our meals. I ordered the brisket ($45) which is what they are known for and I was very disappointed. The meat was quite salty and the gravy was overly sweet. Their medley of vegetables was essentially a sliver of grilled pepper and two string turnips. The mashed potato was good. I gave tastings to my friends and they all agreed, it was not worth the price. The experience was underwhelming and we were left disappointed.
An amazing late after noon of drinks and food. The staff was top tier especially Sam who took the time to explain the highlights on the menu as well as just chat to us. My hat goes off to the young chef who created the most scrumptious share plates. This place is a gem. 10/10
One of my go to places great food, good quality drinks, and friendly service. Vegetarian options: Some can be turned vegan too Food : 5/5 |
Lovely patio; great selection and beautiful presentation of charcuterie; excellent service as well. A little pricey, but worth it.
I have been going here for over 4 years. The food and drinks have always been amazing, especially the seasonal drinks. My partner and I are big lovers of the charcuterie, its our go to, but this weekend we tried their brunch for the first time. Pictured is the Prohibition Benny (with cured salmon) and the Bootlegger Breakfast. Ive never had eggs benedict before but they were creamy, herby from the sauce, and the egg white was almost like a burrata cheese texture, the cured salmon was buttery, and the potatoes were very flavourful and crispy. The service here is always very good, fast and very knowledgeable of the menu. Ive never sat indoors because the patio is just so nice! By far one of my top 3 restaurants in Ottawa. Incredible, incredible, incredible! Vegetarian options: Flatbreads, charcuterie, tacos, brunch
We enjoyed the food at Prohibition, and the drinks. However, the food took about 1h and 45 minutes to arrive. The waitress barely came to see us for over an hour while we waited (I think she came to drop our drinks, and then never came back until the food was ready, so after over 1h30 mins). We found it quite odd given the inside was empty and when we arrived, the patio was also half empty. We understood it was a long weekend, but it would have been nice to get better service for the long wait. I would also add that there was a very large group there too, where the waitress went to see every 5-10 mins or so.
Went there for new years. Good food and exceptional service.
Great bottomless mimosas and super good brunch meals, Drew was a great server! Dietary restrictions: They were very accommodating of my friend with a peanut allergy Food : 5/5 |
Good menu options. However, we felt pressured as they repeatedly attempted to take away our food and drinks before we finished eating/drinking. Its incredibly frustrating to feel rushed during a meal, especially when youre trying to enjoy your food at your own pace. Moreover, the staffs short-tempered demeanor did not contribute to a positive dining experience.
Great food and staff!
Second time coming here and just as impressed as the first time. The menu is small but all the items (brisket croquettes, caramelized onion and cheese dip, flatbread, brussels, brisket, coconut curry, even the chocolate cake) we tried were exquisite and all the cocktails were delicious. Highly recommend this place.
Absolutely loved this place! The service was fantastic and the food and drinks were top notch. We had dinner before a show then went back for drinks at the bar after. Sam the bartender is so fun and very attentive. We ll definitely be back.
Good food. The greeting and server was wonderful. Only disappointment was the pitcher I ordered. Was supposed to have strawberries in it, but came with lime and orange slices. Great location.
Such a cute place and really good food and drinks! I love it here
I was in town for work and my company held a dinner here. I got the brisket and it was exceptionally good. Other team members stated the food they got was good as well. Would definitely come back here when I m in town.
I loved the ambiance as we first arrived. We were unfortunately placed in a corner next to a number of loud annoying groups. Not the fault of the pub, but definitely downgraded our experience. The drinks and food were very good, but even still a little on the pricey side. They dont have as large of a beer selection as you would expect from a pub.
Food was good. Not many customers.
Impeccable! Drinks were top notch, I had the perogies and they were perfect. Great vibes and overall a must go in my opinion.
Sam rocks. Effort shows. A real gem, in every detail.
One of my fave spots, great ambiance, delicious food, wonferful service. We were lucky too, we came on a Saturday that wasnt very busy and they moved my large reso to a bigger room that was more private at my request. The bar is so cozy and intimate too, if youre on a date. The charcuterie board was to die for. Definitely a spot to check out if you havent been. Vegetarian options: They have lots of vegan options on their menu. And most of their food is locally sourced and/or prepared in house. Dietary restrictions: They have gluten-free options here, very tasty.
Hands down one of the most enjoyable restaurant experiences in a very long time. Sam and Drew took excellent care of us and the food was outstanding. They put so much love into what they do and you can tell!
A friend from crazy horse told me to give this place a try and man this place did not disappoint. Very unique brunch. Victoria was absolutely incredible even with a packed house she was on the ball. Flawless service. The food was absoloutly incredible . If you get the Benny maybe ask them not over cooked. That s my only thing one of them was over cooked and was prettt much a hard boiled egg but they were so busy who cares it happens it was still the best brunch I ve ever had. Make the trip and support this place. The pork belly was my birthday wrapped in Christmas. We will try this place in the evening. Great vibe.
Excellent food, service, we had a superb experience
Beautiful location, great service, good but pricy and small servings food. The Peach Sangria was amazing though.
We were a party of probably about 30 people or so. The staff at Prohibition House were patient and fun and welcoming to our excited crowd. We enjoyed a massive charcuterie board with delicious meat, cheese and pickled goods. We enjoyed a fantastic family style meal with brisket, chicken and vegetables, all cooked to perfection. I was more than impressed. I enjoyed that there was enough space for us all to move around and that there was a dedicated area for our coats. Thanks for hosting such a great event for us!
Sam was an angel! The food was delicious, will be back again soon :)
The Prohibition Public House has become one of our favorite brunch places in Ottawa. Cozy atmosphere, friendly service and what can we say about the « Brunch-cuterie » board. Love it! Perfect way to sample so many (locally sourced and in-house products) delicious savory and sweet options. Special thanks to Fred for his impeccable service. Let s not forget the tasty and beautifully crafted cocktails. Thanks you for another delightful Sunday brunch. Until the next time
I have never experienced a bar like this one. The food and drinks were delightful, and don t get me started on the service! Sam was my server/bartender and he was absolutely amazing. Can t wait to come back again! (Came on a Friday night) Spent my birthday like a queen!
We were looking for a brunch spot on a lazy Sunday and stumbled across Prohibition. The food was the type of high end (but reasonably priced) local fair we were looking for, and the server was very friendly. Best of all there was no line-up, though I suspect that won t last long. Our waiter told us their head chef used to be a pastry chef at Banff Springs Hotel, which is apparently for how good the baking was. For how good the food was, can t wait to get back here one evening for a cocktail
Great place. Excellent service and electic foods. Had the Seared tuna, and the watermelon sangria and both were fantastic. Would also recommend the pork belly tacos. The atmosphere is also really nice. I think the summer would be great on the deck. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free menu
Great spot, food is amazing and great staff too!
We had an amazing meal at Prohibition Public House last night. The service was perfect, the cocktails delicious, and the flatbread and the burger were out of this world good. Highly recommend.
Drinks food and service were excellent. I had the somerset sour and was good enough to merit a second. The Rosalini pasta was a surprise and was delicious. My daughter had the guinea hen and it was also excellent. Finally the cheese cake was as good as any Ive tasted. The waitress was great and I found the decor well laid out and comfortable. Overall, a very enjoyable dinner.
I went here for the first time on New Year s Eve and had their Table D Hote menu. I ve never had anything from their regular menu but I think that I can safely say that their food is phenomenal any time of the year! I had the scallop and pork belly with potato crisp amuse bouche and this was an excellent way to start the meal and the Prohibition cocktails were an excellent way to start the night! Next was the truffle tortellini starter and it was even better! I still haves dreams about that tortellini cooked perfectly and absolutely stuffed with truffle. Then the entree arrived and I melted in to my chair. Smoked duck breast with duck croquette! I love duck and this plate made me feel as though I ve never actually had proper duck before, oh my goodness. As if this all wasn t enough to handle, the chocolate coffee mousse, almond financier, meringue, sponge toffee crumble and Cointreau dessert rang in the New Year! The service was excellent; the atmosphere, seating and layout of Prohibition is great for a night out, a relaxed afternoon on the weekend, or a couple drinks after work. I will be returning here often because I can t wait to try more! Note: the photos were taken by my partner because I couldn t do the food justice, too many delicious cocktails :-)
Fred, our brunch server on Sunday, was absolutely amazing. He is professional, kind, funny, and truly experienced. The brunch was delicious, the drinks were great, but Fred was the true highlight.
I planned a dinner for my wife and I here. What a wonderful evening. Great atmosphere, great service (Sam) and the food and drinks fantastic. Couldnt have asked for a better date night
Gorgeous, warm, buzzing. Far too noisy for a normal conversation. Excellent menu. Fantastic servers.
This was $42. Now... normally for that much Brisket. That would be fine and acceptable but the Brisket was so mediocre and boring. Didnt fall apart, didnt fill my mouth with flavour. I constantly had to tell myself that is was infact brisket. Just felt like I was eating a chunk of meat. Mashed potatoes portion comparative to the meat were made so tiny that some would could call them non existent. Seasonal vegetables were a joke.
I love the renovations theyve done upstairs, a very upper cut but chill place to go. We had booked for a small work event of 12 people, the charcuterie boards were fun and delicious! I ordered the duck on top of a pasta, I wouldnt order it again personally. Most of the table (over half) ordered the brisket, and it was out of this world amazing! The drinks are also well conceived of, fun and delicious. The ambiance upstairs is really nice, Im excited to go back. Prices are reasonable for what youre receiving.
The server Sam (I think thats their name) gave us amazing recommendations for what to eat and drink and each choice did not disappoint! High quality food and drink, great atmosphere, 10/10 would come here again!
The dr.pepper duck wings!! I talk about them to anyone who will listen.
The food was good had the burger and a giant plate of fries... Why so much fries??? You can tell they care but got lazy with the amount of fries instead of sometime to balance the rich burger. Atmosphere is good and service was good.
Vegetarian options: They had a good amount of veggie options. Recommended dishes
Had the most lovely experience at Prohibition this week!! Our food was absolutely delicious, but more importantly our service was phenomenal! Our server Julia was attentive and knowledgable on the menu. She even went out of her way to arrange a surprise piece of cake delivered to our table for my boyfriends birthday. She was fantastic at her job and truly made our experience memorable! Our cocktails made by the bartender (August?) were also delicious! We will be back and recommending to family and friends!
Fantastic local food, very tasty, well presented and well priced. Great cocktails too
MOUSE found running at our feet at our DINNER TABLE. Went here for a nice dinner date and regretted it tremendously. Unfortunately didn t notice the mouse till I really started looking around the room at the end of our food . We were seated in the front room of the restaurant which seems to be located next to the kitchen (extra disgusting). The mouse was spotted twice within 5 minutes , unclear how many there are but one seemed quite comfortable to come out and hang out in the wide open or under the dinner tables . we quickly asked for our bill to leave, completely disgusted and a little shaken that we had spent over two hours there not knowing mice were running at our feet. (My date even has a mouse phobia). Employee we approached kindly to try to be helpful (I think it might be the manager as they consistently kept checking in on our table throughout the night even though they weren t our assigned waiter). They seemed to think it was completely normal since it is and I quote old 240 building , and they were almost smug when i brought up the object in our path where at least one mouse was STILL hiding . Just so we re clear this is NOT normal for an establishment serving food and drinks . Smaller complaints would be how cold it is where we were seated in the restaurant. It s strange because it was very warm in the beginning , and by the end we had our coats on. Very Unpleasant . It almost felt like the heat was turned off suddenly for that room. Dress warm to enjoy dinner here.
Their ingredients are on par bro.
Nice bar! Outside area is nice but a bit small. Great drinks!
Incredible food with unparalleled service. Never before have we had such good servers.
Dont be fooled by their claim to be NY Style.. we are from NYC and worried it would be a full-on hipster haven. Its actually an honor for a gastropub this good to say they are inspired by NYC. Delicious food and excellent cocktails!
Amazing bartender who happened to also be our waitress when we came back. From the drinks to the food to the service.
Amazing burger, best I have ever had!! Service last night for my friends 60th was outstanding! Our server, great personality, fun, pleasant and excellent at her job! We will be back!
Love the food and drinks selection my go to for any time of the year
Very good food. For my part, I highly recommend the wild boar burger! If youre looking for a great restaurant to treat yourself to, you cant go wrong with Prohibition.
Well, sugar, I found myself at this little gem called Prohibition Public House on Somerset. Youd think with a name like that, theyd be stingy with the hooch, but, boy, their cocktails are the cats pajamas! The barkeep really knows his onions, and the service? Faster than a hoofers feet on opening night. And let me tell you about the duck on the menu, honey, it was so good it had me singing like it was my big break on Broadway. Prohibition Public House, its the real McCoy, and you can take that from Anytime Annie!
I ve been here a bunch of times and they never disappoint. Went for brunch with a friend of mine and had their eggs benny. Heaven
Fantastic experience. Service was impeccable and the food was fresh and tasty. Great selection of craft beers. They have mussels now that you have to try.
Recently hosted an event here and was very pleased with the menu, as well as the responsive and accommodating staff. Thanks Matt and team!
We came last night for dinner, and were mostly very impressed. The drinks (for example, wine) is about 3-5 dollars more expensive than you might expect. 20 dollars for a 7 ounce glass of Sauv Blanc is a little excessive. The Fogo island calamari was very good, and the fried asparagus was a nice touch. I ordered the mushroom tacos as my main, and it was unfortunately quite salty. The mushrooms were also done in the same style as the calamari so it was a fair bit of fried food, which was my mistake in ordering. If I were to return, I would not re-order the mushroom tacos. My partner ordered the venison boar burger and said he enjoyed it. The fries were, again, quite salty. If youre sensitive to sodium or dont put much in your own food, I would recommend asking the server to have the kitchen leave off the added salt. Service was efficient and friendly and the set up is nice. The porch patio is very atmospheric.
Nice vibe and service. Was positively surprised by their Beef Tartare.
Cute and large patio, with covered areas for rain. Service was quick with friendly staff that are easily able to accommodate allergies. Food was a decent portion size and quite rich. Cocktails were fun but also on the pricier side for what you get.
We ate outside on the Veranda Thu July 6 - lovely atmosphere and great service. Unfortunately we found the food underwhelming. I suspect the cooking oil needed to be changed - calamari breading quite dark, as was my wifes polenta breading - and the polenta itself was not smooth/creamy - rather dry. We were quite disappointed as were looking forward to dining at Prohibition. Given the price:quality ratio, well try somewhere else for our next occasion.
Really good service. Food was yummy.
Amazing brunches and great service. The breakfast tacos are really good and stuffed to the brim. The home fries are some of the best I ve ever had! My wife and I will definitely be returning. Maybe next time we ll both get the bottomless mimosas :)
My husband and I went there for the first time and was very pleased with the quality of the food & service. The service, couldnt ask for better ! They were quick, friendly, efficient and gave good recommendations for drinks and food. The shrimp ceviche was amazing, so flavorful. The hamburger was quite juicy and flavorful we will be coming back.
Outstanding mushroom tacos, good beers, cozy athmosphere. Check it out while in Ottawa. :)
Been there for brunch and dinner. Brunch is bang-on!! Dinner not so much. Had the fish tacos-bland and underwhelming. I forget what my friends had but they were also disappointed.
Such a gem for Ottawa! All the staff are clearly passionate about their work and are so friendly. The food and drink are AMAZING. The location and atmosphere are on point. If I could give 6 stars I would! They don t just have a restaurant they have a community and a true public house. Thanks Sam! I ll be back for sure!
It was a nice lunch. Would go again.
Only OK considering the high price. You can get some nice meat cuts here but but the little things let those kind of items downs vs comparable places weve been to. Example: the sauce and the meat not fully coming together flavor wise, meats seemed slightly tough. Overall this kind of thing has led to a sense of boredom with the overall palate on offer after a few outings. Similar story with the alcolhol. Some of the cocktails look good on paper but dont fully come through taste-wise they way youd expect. No argument that its a great decor in a nice location, but as a more food focused reviewer that doesnt make the difference for me.
Worst service ever
The only thing that s good about that place is the bartenders downstairs the place is poorly managed amd they don t keep their word when I comes to reservations they cancelled my bday reservation after we had an agreement because they got a bigger group.. first of all that s not the industry amd someone s word is gold. I have never seen a place that takes deposits amd I ve been around industry for over 20 years. I blew enough money at your place. That s disrespect that what you call it in the industry Good job!
The Brunch-cuterie was amazing - so much to share on the plate, and such a great variety of food items. We loved the bottomless mimosa option, had a great table on the porch, and Drew provided excellent & friendly service. Also, their patio is dog-friendly.
I advised the server I have celiac and she seemed confident the kitchen would prepare my meal in a safe manner, and avoid cross contamination, given this information. I ordered the brisket and as a result am incredibly sick. Not sure if its how it was prepared or the sauce that was on top but please let the kitchen know this dish is NOT OK for celiacs! Please be more mindful of food allergies. Dietary restrictions: Though some menu items are labelled gluten friendly this kitchen is NOT CELIAC SAFE!!!
Small menu, big flavor! Excellent all around. Great for birthday party.
used to be my favourite restaurant in town, but the food quality dropped so much since their chef left :/
I was only there for drinks but the staff were amazing and so friendly as if we knew each other forever.
Several items weren t available on the menu which narrowed the entrees down to 3 items. Appetizers took 2 hours be served. Place looked great from the outside, but don t waste your time going here !
Beautiful spot. Nice everything! Great blues y music, comfortable furniture. Fast service. Ordered shrimp taco appetizer as a meal and couldn t finish all three tacos, even though they were mouth watering deliciousness! Server was attentive. Even though I was by myself she didn t forget me, as often Happens!
We went there for dinner. While we were waiting for our food, which took forever, we saw a mouse running around. We brought this to their attention and decided to leave. Whats super annoying is that they think this is normal. No, THIS IS NOT NORMAL and its not accepatble.
This was our second time for dinner and we couldn t be more satisfied with the meal, the service and we were thrilled to sit on the patio in the fall. The calamari was perfectly battered, the ribeye special was cooked to perfection and the pappardelle house made pasta dish was OMG! Oh and the white sangria was top notch
They have mice and aren t doing anything about it. Mice were running under the tables and they were acting like it was completely normal.
10/10 all around, thanks for a great brunch
Cozy atmosphere with options to sit inside or on the spacious patio, super friendly service and delicious food and cocktails! The perfect spot for a date night, dinner with friends or any celebration.
Amazing Food, the servers and bartenders made us feel great, and the drinks are delicious. We will be going back again.
Great place to dine and amazing night life. One of the go-to spots in the city. Great staff and atmosphere and a very cool crowd.
We came here for the first time for brunch last weekend and we were both impressed. Excellent food with great service, in a cool and comfy space.
Lovely spot! Stopped in for a cocktail and got delicious drinks and knowledgeable and gracious mixologist!
We visited the Prohibition Public House with enthusiasm and high expectations but left feeling underwhelmed and over charged. We have a wonderful server named Sam (who was also the bartender). Overall his service was fantastic. We ordered the Jake Walk and the Speakeasy cocktail. Both delicious! For appetizers we order the mushroom tacos. I highly recommend! Now the aspects that left us yearning for more. The music was a tad loud. Im not that old, a fresh 30, but I could barely hear the conversation from across the table. I love music that bumps, but this was over the top. Next, was the mains. I ordered the butter squash gnocchi. The gnocchi was barely able to stay together. Granted it was tasty, but the texture was closer to firm mashed potatoes when you bit into it. Additionally, the dish lacked the necessary salt to bring the flavors together and the sweet pea puree was very thick and did not have the consistency of a sauce (which it was trying to be). For the price of $32 per plate, I expected better. A fellow diner at our table ordered the vegetarian tagliatelle. In the menu it stated there would be blistered tomatoes, bussel sprouts, and veggies. It was completely missing the veggies and only contained the blistered tomatoes and Brussel Sprouts. It was brought to the attention of a staff member, but no one visited the table to rectify the situation, nor did our waiter check in after our food arrived. We waited longer (until the rest of the table had finished their meals) and finally got the attention of our waiter, who did get the dish re-made. The entree was given free of charge at the end of the night which was appreciated. I would like to give this place another chance, but feel my money is better spent just a few doors down at Jabberwocky or union 613. Vegetarian options: Many options for the vegetarian and modifications available for those who are vegan
Definitely great service and good food. I recommend the rose sangria it s delicious! Would be even better if they had a happy hour menu.
What a great discovery! The service is excellent, the food is delectable. Really a favorite for the drink.
We had reserved this place for a birthday brunch and I was really surprised of how spacious this place was. The hostess was very friendly and customer service was impeccable. The food tasted so fresh! I had the salmon benedict and it is my all time favourite benedicts! It is reasonably priced and I will definitely be back!
Sooooo, maybe I chose the wrong thing as a pescatarian who has a wheat/gluten problem, but my order of the Catch of the Day was not worth the picture. The fish was good, everything else was not. The charcuterie board was lovely and the service and environment was too. But I wouldnt come back for the food. I will say, the rest of our party was somewhat impressed with the food, expect me. So maybe I am the problem Anyways, to all, its 100% worth a shot but if you have allergies and dietary restrictions if might just be a cool place for cocktails
Amazing experience ! What a great evening. Sam was an outstanding server and the follow up service from Matt was also great. My wife is an amazing cook and she could not stop complimenting the food, the presentation and flavours. One of the best meals in a long time. Thanks to all.
Visited Nov 2022 We were looking for a venue with a private room in order to host a baby shower brunch, and after struggling to find a place that wouldn t require a minimum spend, Prohibition Public House came to the rescue! Matt was super responsive in the weeks leading up with the planning, and despite us booking for brunch, they allowed us to stay well past 4, ahead of their dinner rush. They gave us full liberty to set up in their Gangster Room, and it was just perfect. We ordered a few of the brunch charcuterie boards, and it was delicious! A year later, I m still thinking about it. Too bad we devoured it before we had a chance to snap a pic of it. Our server, Fred, deserves the most kudos! As we were wrapping up the festivities, we all knew we needed one last drink before calling it, and he whipped up the most delicious coffee cocktail. It s a shame I don t live in Ottawa, and so I can t frequent the place more, but looking forward to coming back!
I will be back for more.
We were walking by and popped in for a drink. Atmosphere was great, Drew our bartender was fantastic, great recommendations and very fun to talk to. We enjoyed the duck flatbread and wonderful cocktails. I would highly recommend this stop back in time.
Great place and ambiance for a drink and chat amongst friends. Although a bit pricier than other places, the rustic charm is there Service
Our night so great! Sam was an excellent server, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was so so cozy. I d never been here before and decided to take my mom and grandma while they were visiting Ottawa. We will all most definitely be back and I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone!
Highly recommend booking an event here. From the very first time I contacted them about having a surprise party, they handled it professionally and with care. Matt was so generous with his time, answering my questions and making sure we were set up for the party. On the day we were served by Sarah who handled a rowdy party of 25 people with ease, she was so good at her job. Since it was a surprise party, both Matt and Sarah made sure the surprise went off without a hitch. Additionally the food is delicious - highly suggest the family platter style. Thanks Prohibition!!
Great service and ambiance. A beautiful historic building well maintained and restored. Great place for drinks. Food needs work in presentation, portions and sides. Pricy for what you get. The salmon was ok, small piece and likely farmed and previously frozen. French fries were frozen, not fresh. Just not enough sides and lacking presentation. Vegetarian pasta dish underwhelming for $34, more suited at $24 for what you offered. Kitchen needs work. Front of the house is outstanding. Food underwhelming and overcharged.
Great service and some of the best cocktails in town. Just go!
Waitress was a little sassy & kept bragging about how awesome her Eurotrip was, & that she couldn t talk about anything else because she was just too jetlagged which ended up being a good thing because her menu knowledge was extensive! The duck wings blew my mind & my taste buds felt like they had travelled across the state of NY and back on a life defining journey. The blueberry wheat beer recommended was the perfect compliment to the meal and I could not be more satisfied with the service! If u go to Prohibition Chiara is ur girl for all things menu related to blow ur tastebuds around the world and back!
If you havent been to Ottawas Prohibition restaurant, I would suggestion checking them out. The brisket meal and cheesecake are amazing!
Their burger was really good! Ill come back for this again.
Food was excellent! Service was great. They were very accommodating.
Top notch! The service was professional but also very warm and sincere. The charcuterie board is hands-down the best in Ottawa. I will 100% come back.
It was my first visit to this place. It seems quite cozy with all wood decor, cozy banquettes. I was surprised by the menu as the appetizers looks amazing and the entree seems nice. Unfortunately that evening I was there for drinks only. By the glass wine list is limited but its often the case. Parking is on the street as it is downtown Ottawa. I will have to go back to try the food. Parking: On the street only
Banging pork belly sliders! Good find in Ottawa.
Cute place to grab a drink in a nice setting with a nice menu. I was very surprised and will go back for sure.
excellent
Stumbled in and found delicious food with excellent service!!
Great, great, great Will be back Food
Went for a walk from our Airbnb just looking for some basic pub grub. Came upon this place and gave it a try. We chose to sit in the bar area. The bar was beautifully decorated and the background music was thumping but quite enjoyable. Food was a little slow coming out but we weren t in any rush and the pasta and pork belly tacos were fantastic! Our server was very nice and overall had a very good experience. Would definitely recommend and would certainly return if ever back in the area.
Delicious meal and drinks on their heated patio. Bartenders recommended us some great cocktails. My favorite was the Speakeasy
Good coctail spot
Not more vegetarian options. Bar is really good. Food
I booked a group of 10 and had the best experience!! We showed up early and we were accommodated with space at the bar while we waited. It felt like we had a private little bar all to ourselves. The table was perfect for our group size, and our server was superb. I didnt hear one person complain about having to wait for anything. Food was excellent and the portions were so satisfying. HIGHLY recommend.
Great spot for a first date very chill vibe and good drink options!
Great tasting food. Nice variety.
Amazing experience at Prohibition! Beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. The drinks are delicious. And the food is decadent. Go try asap.
Sam and all the team were absolutely great to deal with for some beverages after our work Christmas party! I highly recommend stopping in to see the great atmosphere and people!
