First visit to this place.I was welcomed by the owner and he is a super sweet person.He generously made me tried their delicious potatoes. He simply offered it to me, i didn t ask for anything. I ordered falafel sandwich and requested to make it extra spicy.ill be honest food was ok but this is something that can improved.but customer service is something that convinced me to visit again. Do try their potatoes and green garlic sauce.super yum. Just a little request.kindly focus on the washrooms.verrrrrry dirty.the place needs a good good cleaning. But i will recommend

I discovered this place a couple of months ago. The owner was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food was flavorful, fresh and delicious. My son & I wandered in out of the cold just looking to warm up and get something to eat while we waited for a ride. We were genuinely touched by the hospitality here. The food is absolutely delicious. I will be making a point of stopping by anytime I am in the area.

Came here for lunch and got a chicken salad. I was surprised that they didnt offer or put pita chips on it. Chicken was a bit on the dry side, but not terribly so. Flavor was just okay. The spicy garlic sauce wasnt bad but was definitely too salty. Decent portion of chicken. Overall Id say it was just okay, and good if youre in a pinch.

Generous portions. Cut the meat old style using a knife. Man serving dropped a small piece of chicken, and went back to get me more.

Chicken sandwich was delicious. Potatoes were neither hot or fresh. Garlic sauce container was dirty, had black specks all over the inside.

Had an absolutely amazing experience at Shawarma Express! Its evident that the owner loves what they do. The attention to detail, freshness of ingredients, and friendly atmosphere create a perfect combination. If youre a shawarma enthusiast or just looking for a delightful meal, Shawarma Express is a must-visit!

The shop is small but quaint and the staff were all kind to me. Their wraps taste great, the garlic sauce just right and the ingredients taste very fresh. Their potatoes arent too greasy which is a huge plus for me. I also like the prices on everything (for a student on a budget, Ill take a $7 wrap any day Im not up to making lunch for myself). And I cant thank them enough for having a reasonable tipping scale of 10%-15%-20%, it seems today like so many shops abuse tipping scales to make us tip more than we would like to, but this was so refreshing to me I had to tip the full 20%. Overall great shop and would recommend. Vegetarian options: I had the Falafel wrap, a vegan option, and it tasted great! There were many vegan options on the menu for those of us who are vegan, vegetarian, or just looking to cut our consumption of meat.

It was a very nice expirience. We felt very welcomed and the taste was really good. In order to taste the sauce we got a piece of meat with different delicious sauce flavours.

I just got the mixed shawarma. Horrible. Took a few bites had a disgusting taste looked and the beef is old hard and nasty. Tossed it out. Id like my money back.

I only had the beef shawarma, but it was fantastic. Wonderfully flavoured beef, fresh veggies and great garlic sauce. I m looking forward to trying more things on the menu.

The shawarmas are absolutely delicious and filling. The garlic potatoes are overly spiced and very dry. We were the only ones there and it took 10 minutes for 2 meals to be made, can t imagine the wait if it gets busier.

This place is great! They give you a good amount of food for a good price. I ordered the mixed shawarma with chicken and lamb, just the small size, but the small is super filling! The guy serving me was sweet and even offered me a sample of some other food while I waited for my order. 100% recommend if you dont have a lot of time during the lunch hour

Asked for the small portion and the guy gives me chicken shwarma with rice (medium). Chicken was super dry. Garlic sauce was nice. The fattoush salad was mainly lettuce. Best to stick with a wrap or falafels. Restaurant can use a good cleaning. Did not want to sit as it was grimy. Takeaway is fine. Service was abrupt - not rude, but didnt feel completely welcome. Like an oasis in the desert of battling for Canadian freedom, these chaps served up awesome shawarma, a comfortable, non judging atmosphere and an opportunity to thaw out before heading back into battle. Highly recommend, and look forward to returning and trying more of the menu!

Really nice Vegan options and the portions are large too. The prices are good! I ordered from food delivery app and really liked their food. I got confused by the food delivery app and ordered garlic sauce which is not Vegan, I called the restaurant to see if I could change it, they changed it right away to hummus and I could enjoy my food without throwing it away. Very pleasant experience 5 stars. Best part so many vegan options.

Ordered through uber eats. They had a buy 1 get 1 free donair deal. So I ordered that and when my order came they had also thrown in a small container of garlic potatoes with all 3 types of garlic sauce in it! So 2 donairs and the potatoes and sauces all for the price of 1 donair and the uber delivery fee! Very impressed with their generosity, and the food was great!

Such a bad experience. I called to make an order for me & 6 of my colleagues. I called at 11h00 and arrived at 11h45 the order wasnt ready and no meat no potatoes no rice were done. Waited another 30 minutes for eating the meal cold/warm.

It wasnt bad. I feel for these businesses downtown. Times are tough and you have to respect the grind. That being said, I felt like the food wasnt at its best. The gentleman working pretty much did as he wished. Told him I wanted just garlic on the potatoes. You could see the stock was low. So he put a bit of garlic on them. Then adds a huge spoonful of hummus on them. Never asked if I wanted that. (Im not big on hummus) Is the food good? Its alright. Have I had better? I sure have. Will I be going again? Probably not. If this place was in a small town and the only gig in town I would probably hit it up again. The fact that I can walk one block and know that Ill get better shawarma will make me walk on by next time.

it must be hard with offices closed, but cleanliness and freshness should not be sub par under any circumstances. Grimey says it all. I just went to try it, i have a better spot close by on bank st. that i ll hit up.

Hands down one of the best shawarma in Ottawa!

Take-out for three last night. We all got a chicken shawarma plate. So much food! One plate probably not enough for three, but definitely could have fed two of us. We all really enjoyed all of it, and the older gentleman gave us several samples as we were waiting, plus a free falafel to try.

I had a take away.. Absolutely enjoyed the meal.. Wholesome with balanced flavors and fresh.. The pakaging was perfect as well.. My first time trying Falafel and I am definitely going back to try other dishes from here.. they even gave me chocolates which was really cute..

Visiting Ottawa, place was across from hotel tried it... Its not regular shawarma. Its some other version... No white sauce... Wayyyy too much garlic... Use a paste of it ... Dry meat... Rice was old and cold. Got order wrong had to go back and they just dumped cold ingredients on wrong order. $25 right in the garbage. Sorry for 1 star to family business but it was that bad.

Nice place for a quick meal, satisfying quantity according to the price, some things could improve indeed but no complaints.

I would come here often like a year ago, then I moved so I wasnt able to as much. Anyways their way of making food or something, has changed. And not for the better. When i got my chicken shawarma, for the most part I only tasted the burnt chicken. Which is really disappointing. I also got a salad with it too. And it was like having a cereal, in the pic that was from the first draining of the salad. I dont think Ill be coming back, just cuz this wasnt the first time of me running into poor quality problems with them. Now I remeber why I stop going there. Im sorry, I love the owner; hes always friendly and nice. Wish them the best of luck. Maybe Ill try again in 3 months from now.

I usually go to shawarma restaurants for the chicken, this place had the worst chicken shawarma. The taste wasnt there at all.

Portion size doesnt accord with price, but it was flavorful... so not too bad.

One star is too much, but there is no lower rating. It was Saturday and the Fattouch lady restaurant is closed. So why dont we try this Shawarma express on Slate street? In one sentence: we should have walked out as soon as we set foot in, the place is run down and cleanliness is much to be desired. No other customer was in sight. We asked for two chicken plates and two falafel plates. The chicken plates were prepared first and were taken near the cash. While preparing the falafel plates another server came, almost pushed the other server and started filling up a plate with rice, then he proceeded near the cash and started removing pieces of chicken from our intended plates and put them on the plate he was preparing. I was puzzled, and again I should have walked out. When we got our plates there were barely any chicken meat and what was there was too dry. All the servers proceeded to another table and started sharing the plate that was prepared by that pirate server. Now for the taste of the food: the falafel was ok, the chicken was way sub-par, the potatoes cold. I cant believe this place is still open and has customers.

See the photos they lure you in with? It LOOKS like nice dishes, but what you get is food served in styrofoam and it doesnt look anything like the photo. This is very harmful for the environment too. This was very deceiving

Potatoes were very dry, had clearly been sitting for hours. Shawarma wasnt good. The chicken was lacking flavour, their was very little garlic sauce or hummus on it, and it was sparsely filled. Honestly wondered if it they got my order wrong and gave me some kind of chicken wrap instead of a shawarma. Also, they put lettuce on it. Not something Im used to in shawarma and I was not a fan. Many other better shawarma spots downtown that are fresher and much tastier.

Food is awesome! For sure best shawarma in Ottawa. The only downside is the location...its really tough to find parking.

Had an english style donair meat sandwich. (lettuce, onion, tomato, chilli sauce with donair meat.) Absolutely fantastic. Good quality ingredients, fast service, perfectly made sandwich. Was given a sampler of the garlic potato too: very very tasty. Highly recommended.
