Nice place little island good view while eating we like the food but the only issue is the price like onion rings 9 $ and fries for 7 $ I thought home made fries but the burger very good
Unique little spot on the Ottawa River. Food was adequate but not outstanding. Neat patio atmosphere looking toward Parliament. Recommended, especially when the leaves are changing.
I paid $7 for a hotdog that only came with ketchup and mayo. I’m not sure if there were any other condiments available, as I wasn’t asked and didn’t see any. The fries were unsalted. On a positive note, the place offers great views and is a comfortable spot to hang out with drinks.
Really neat place to take in some drinks or a meal. Right in the middle of the Ottawa River, Tavern on the Island’s deck patio has really scenic views into downtown Ottawa from the west, as well as views of the Remic Rapids. Pictured below are the “Mushroom and Beef” and “Bacon Burgers”, as well as onion rings and fries. The patio also features some games, like giant connect four, horse shoes, ping pong, amongst others. I was there for the golden hour, and then when the sun went down, the patio lights came on. Really neat and relaxing vibe at this place.
We had such a lovely time here— the setting is beautiful of course, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food coming out of the small shipping container kitchen— mushroom burger was really great! Staff was also very helpful, including passing out towels when we arrived to wipe down chairs after a sprinkle of rain, as well as offering blankets when it got cool later in the evening— ended the night around a fire table, wrapped in a blanket listening to the river — it really is a special spot— highly recommended
NCC is knocking it out of the park with this Tavern collection. Island location is perfect. Plenty of shade in the late afternoon and a great view of the river and the city. Good selection of beer and cocktails and surprisingly good food for a pop-up (Mushroom Burger pictured). Service was fast and friendly.
This. Is. My. New. Favourite. Spot! 😍 Good food. Good service. Number one... on the water! Period. Beautiful. Quiet with yummy food, and good service. Bonus: adult summer drinks too!! We had a Sangria or aperol spritz with our Tijuana burger combo. Delicious and tasted even better because of the locale.
Nice place set up next to the Ottawa river on Bates Island. There was no signs or advertisements when I went and easy to miss. I assume it opened not long ago. Hot dogs, hamburgs, beer and cocktails on the menu at reasonable price. Outdoor seats only, within a prime atmosphere.
Fantastic to finally have a place to eat on the Island after the Champlain was tirn down by the NCC in the 90s.
Solid spot, finally something to do on the island
Its such a lovely spot to have a cocktail and a snack. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was good as well as the drinks. The site is fully accessible as well as having an accessible porta-potty. Wheelchair accessibility: Theres a ramp from the paved drive all the way to the deck by the water. There is also an accessible porta-potty.
This place was a pleasant surprise. Only wish I knew about it earlier.
wonderful
They have one of the best beyond the meet burger in Ottawa. Would like to see more variety of food and maybe pastries. Great location with bike accessibility and plenty of bike parks.
Great location, horrible food. Drinks were fine. Since they dont have a heat lamp, the burnt burgers we received were cold. While waiting to order, I saw a lot of burnt food going out. Go for a drink and the view, but stay away from the food. Nice staff, but they need a lot of training.
Great location and stunning view of Ottawa. Limited menu. Understaffed so service is slow. Wheelchair accessibility: Theres ramps
Bit pricey, but super cool so it was worth it. Really like that you can bring your dog on the patio!
Great spot, finally Ottawa is taking advantage of the waterfront... like every other city around the world... parking is a pain for some (I rode my bike)
Nice spot. Food was good but very limited options. They need to expand their menu, add some desert and prior coffee.
Such an amazing , quiet, relaxing place. Great for dates or outings with friends. Staff is super friendly and the food is tasty.
Came to watch the sunset with the family , wanted a drink and a burger or something each ( 4 of us) before the sun went down. Stood in line for almost 10 minutes with only one family ahead of us. Out of the 8 staff, not one single person said Hello, or just be one minute. Zero acknowledgement. Too bad because between 4 of us we would have spent at least $100 and returned again.
What a great location, horrible service with overpriced F&B, not environmental Hope Park Canada and NCC consider their contractor more precisely Food
Excellent burger, good fries. The views are spectacular. Kid-friendliness: Yard games suitable for ages 7+ Food : 5/5 |
Friendly staff, great burgers, perfect views, great and welcoming atmosphere, nicely accessible by car or bikes. Kid-friendliness: I didnt go with kids but there are games to entertain and space to run.
Such a lovely hidden gem
Counter service so I didnt rate it. Beautiful location for watching moonrise over the downtown core. Food and drinks are pricey: we opted out on food and paid about $10 per drink.
Good but costed me some moneys
Wonderful place to spend a sunny afternoon. Food is slow and good.
Beautiful patio, food wasn t great! Honestly still worth the visit for a drink!! The undercooked fries tasted like they had old oil.
Located on Bates Island, this snack bar will charm you with its privileged view of the Ottawa River.
It is a great place - I wanted to give a huge shoutout to John in the kitchen - I made an order in error - however John and team patiently fixed the order without much hassle - John was quick to understand the situation and found us a solution. It was very pleasant dealing with him and it added to our amazing time there - making it even better - definitely returning !
bacon cheeseburger combo and poutine was delicious
Really lovely spot right on the river with great views. Order at the counter and go sit on the deck, food brought to you. Outdoor heaters for cooler evenings. Coffee etc, cold drinks, beer, wine. Not a lot of food options but a few different burger types and tacos etc.
Wonderful!
Beautiful outdoor restaurant on the Ottawa river. They provide blankets, there s table tennis and horse shoes. My family had a lovely experience. We rode our bikes - easy and safe to access.
Omg wowowow this is super cool. It s super original near the river. The food is very good. And it s full of games
Great place, Bate Island needed a good bistro. Everything is really good but they dont clean the tables at all, even though it wasnt busy when we went. Also, it is a bit overpriced.
Outstanding view, but poor service, cold food and very noisy generator. Instead, bring your lunch and sit by the water.
The food and drinks are over priced, the service is poor but the view is beautiful. If you are celiac like I am, dont bother going. They have no ciders or gf beer. Wine and sangria is all. I spent 15 minutes educating the cook and the server on CD. I even took the only thing that was gluten free, a small taco salad (around 17$). When the server brought my food, my tacos were touching my husbands burger. I mentioned this to her and nothing was done. Lesson learned, this place is ignorant towards food allergies and celiac disease. Very disappointed.
Great food and staff. Cottage vibe with a great view of the Ottawa river. Best burgs in the city
Great ambiance. Very expensive.
Fantastic staff. The burger was great! Hell of a view! Food : 4/5
Comfy chairs, beautiful views and great food!
Why cant we order on line? Lining up at the counter is old and a turnoff
Yikes! $30 for one beer and a Bloody Caesar. Chairs are uncomfortable and tables were dirty. Four people left a table scattered with their lunch remnants - 45 minutes later nothing cleaned up. Squirrels were happy! Plastic cups and cutlery. Yes, the view is wonderful but better off bringing your own drinks and picnic basket. I expected more from the NCC and the Tavern group...
Fun place, but not cheap.
A hidden gem!! The atmosphere on a warm summers night is amazing.
Little pricey but fantastic location!
We have visited all the taverns and this was our last one and we absolutely loved it. What a beautiful atmosphere and the food was very good. Our service Just Jack wasnt just great, he was amazing - super friendly and efficient. Works his butt off all night long and so did Dave taking orders and making drinks. The only downfall would be to have the washrooms better lit up; its a little dark going there once the sun has gone down.
We cycled here for a drink. While I grabbed a table, my partner waited in line for 40 minutes to get 2 drinks. Nice location but don t go on a Friday evening.
The food was amazing. The view was amazing. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING.
Amazing setting and Tijuana burger to die for
Beautiful views of the river and delicious burgers!
The Beyond Burger was taken to another level. Friendly staff, great food, beautiful setting.
Amazing all around! Great addition to the taverns
Just WOW! Cozy atmosphere, nice staff, nice drinks!! Will go back for sure!!!
Cute space to casually hang out and get food. Would go there again!
What a great place!
Stumbled across this place while riding Nokia Bike Days and stopped for a quick poutine. The kitchen initially lost the order, but the manager came by and more than made up for it. Love the view, the poutine was great, outstanding customer service (I mean, things happen; its how you handle it), and so nice to be able to swing by there on a bike.
Needs some work to catch up to the other taverns on the in town.
Place is nice but food wait is ridiculously long ...long lines prices 7$ for hotdogs overpriced not that good...nothing special make sure you take receipt to proof your order mistakes done
Great location. Way overpriced. $7 for a basic hot dog, $16 for a Margarita, $15 for a basic hamburger (fries extra) $8.50 for a cup of beer...? But a great place for a picnic.
Fantastic best burgers I ever ate
Casual eats with a view. Free parking. Burgers and a classic hotdog on the menu.
I have always liked this spot and I love the concept of having a cafe here. Unfortunately this seems thrown together. They have a noisy generator running that spoils the spot. When standing in line it was reading as high as 80dB+! Also for food from a shipping container it is absurdly over priced! Over $21+ for a burger with fries! The only reason I gave it a few stars was the food wasnt that bad and the location is amazing. Hopefully they put in a proper structure that doesnt look ghetto and run a proper power hook up to it.
A new Tavern to visit in the region. Awesome spot in the middle of the river.
Great atmosphere. Staff are friendly, but the woman who delivered our order today seemed completely indifferent to the fact that they had almost no ketchup to provide us for our fries. Not enough for one order. Really? You dont actually have ketchup? They pretty much serve burgers and fries. Hows that work? Washrooms are nasty porta potties too.
An awesome place to just sit by the water and have a drink, some drinks can be pretty pricy though (e.g. $16.50 for an aperol spritz)
What a pleasant surprise it was for my partner and I to go to our fave spot, Bate Island, and see there is a gorgeous waterfront terasse! The food and drink truck is great! Such a peaceful getaway spot.
Loved the full experience. Food was nothing revolutionary but was decent and fair value. Where this place really excels is the view and vibe Kid-friendliness: Just fine for my kiddos
Loved this place! Even the menu has more variety than the other taverns. The island definitely needed a place like this
This review is based on location and the entire setup as such, menu included, but NOT on whether the food is tasty or not. I had high hopes before going as the location is unique and the opportunity to offer something special is evident. Unfortunately, a quick look at the menu tells me that they are playing it safe by offering the same deep-fried experience as most other establishments around here. I think its sad. Wasted opportunity in my opinion. I see other reviewers mention NCC but it doesnt look like NCC is involved in this place. The Tavern Group its called. The cafes run by NCC offer several options for health-conscious people, but this place is purely pub food. Adding a Beyond Meat burger isnt changing that.
Nice chill place, definitely worth a try if youre driving across and have some time. Why sit in traffic when you could sit and have a beer! The Tavern burger was delicious and the Landshark was refreshing.
We tried three of the four or five types of burgers on offer which were excellent. We ordered one order of fries to share. They arrived cold. We asked the server if they could be reheated. She took them back to the kitchen and returned telling us there was no way to reheat them. ( Um, how were they heated in the first place? Guess, the answer is they were not.) No offer to replace them. That is very poor customer service. We will be back but wont order the fries. There was a good IPA, Calibogie Bogie. Dog friendly. Kid-friendliness: There are several games to keep little guys entertained. Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp to the deck.
Not a setup and service I would expect for Ottawq , copmares to other sister business tavern on the falll & tavern at the galleria. Here the service is not very good the setup is not the best the food is served out of a container far from the patio and the lineup is very very long we decided to leave. While theres a huge lineup for people, a girl in one side of the container serving a huge line up there is 3 to 4 guys just trying to work and a standing around at the other side of the container. This is not a good beginning a little bit of touch up in management and planning will make things better.
