Offering seasonal, locally sourced and handmade ingredients. Beautifully designed to embrace our heritage roots. Chef Dave Godsoe was inspired by the vibrancy and character of the market when creating this ever-evolving menu, showcasing the restaurant's relationships with local farms and purveyors. The Clarendon menu offers tavern classics with craft beers, vintage and reinvented cocktails and happy hour specials. Located in the Byward Market just steps from The Rideau Centre, NAC, Parliament Hill, and The National Gallery. Soon to be one of Ottawa's favourite watering holes.
Food was very good, had the cajun club, great portions, great selection of draft beers and cider, was seated quickly, servers were quick and efficient. Would recommend
Really liked this spot. It is in a gorgeous old building with exposed stone. They have a nice selection of beers on tap including Carlsberg Lite which is harder to find on tap. The bartender was very busy but a pleasure to deal with. Overall a charming spot
Absolutely hands down a delicious place to visit, sit back and enjoy the tastes and view on this perfect poised corner in downtown Ottawa. We indulged with a savoury fresh Squash and Kale Salad plus a fresh market rhubarb sip! It was all delish and the service impeccable. Thank you, cheers, Spicy Jan
We came here to celebrate a friends birthday, the menu is limited but everything we ordered was decent.. my friend who got the steak loved it, the pizza was more a flat bread but it was good. Service was fantastic and they made a lovely decorative dish for the birthday girl and kept it on the house! We got mocktails they were good and luckily we were there on a Wednesday when they have live music !
Dog friendly restaurant! Servers are all nice! Their waffles were really good! We stayed in the patio since we have a dog with us but it will be better if they have more cover options when it rains. 🙂
Back in Ottawa for a meeting and came here to catch up with some friends over happy hour. The pizzas were again a hit with us. Well priced wines, beers and cocktails were great!
Had the best experience at the Clarendon Tavern! Not only was the service great, but loved the tuna Niçoise salad. Definitely coming back and suggest it to anyone who’s looking for some great food and a good time!
DO NOT RECOMMEND! I ll put 0 stars if i could! The food is okay, not the tastiest but not bad either. I ordered a latte with almond milk, I noticed the taste after one sip and told the waiter which type of milk is this? He answered « OH I forgot to mention almond milk to the barista » … He apologize, took back the latte and then got me a lactose free latte after 35mn!!!! I didn’t say much cause I didn’t thought one sip was going to affect me… But it did, I ended up very sick because of that. The service in general was horrible, HORRIBLE, we waited 1 and half hour for our 6 breakfast plate… and there was MULTIPLE mistake in the food orders too, but at this point we just wanted to eat and leave. The only good thing about this place is the decor.
Amazing place with a great unique menu.
Very poor experience with the staff.
ottawa food really do make you sad. Not very happy about the dessert I had and the whole nonchalant juvenile service was more of neglect than warming Food
The besr place in downtown according to me
Stopped in for a drink after walking around ByWard market. It was Saturday and they had brunch menu until 3pm and unfortunately I ended up here around 2pm. So could only order a beer, no appetizers, unless you ordered off the brunch menu, which didnt really have food items that went well with a beer. Relaxed and enjoyed the beer and went on my way to next adventure.
Great place ,vibe ,food ,staff.will be back for sure .The cod was excellent.thnx guys.
Its an experience you have to try once! Usually one & done, but the servers do amazing work.
we came here for brunch and were really disappointed overall. The restaurant was mostly empty while there, yet it took over 30 minutes before we were given drinks (three coffees and an orange juice), and two hours before getting our food. There was over 10 minutes between two of our meals arriving and the second two. And our burgers were very undercooked when they arrived. The service was also pretty terrible. No one checked in at all, and when we requested a water refill and some ketchup were made to feel like we were putting them out when we could see other employees chatting and checking their phones. It s an overall cute place, and the previous time we had been there we had a pleasant time, but there are so many great restaurants in the market that we would chose over returning here again.
Great food and amazing creative cocktails. Service was excellent.
In my opinion this place is only ok. Not good not bad. I ate here once and won t be back.
Horrible place, rude servers, and overpriced foods
Great value happy hour 3-5:30pm at $10 for an Aperol spritz and some cocktails. Flat bread pizza also decent. We went back a few times.
Cocktails are good and change seasonally. Food is fine, hit or miss. The few times I ve visited, service has been inconsistent. Often great but sometimes a miss.
Our favorite brunch spot
So we went for my daughter s birthday dinner and was so terribly disappointed. Service was abysmal. It took 45 minutes to receive our drinks. It took another hour to receive appetizers. And another hour to receive our mains, which were all lukewarm. One was actually cold and we returned it twice to ask for a hotter dish. It came back the third time, lukewarm. We gave up and asked to speak to the manager. He apologized which was great and offered to put the whole meal on the house. All good on that account but honestly, it was a terrible experience and so disappointing to celebrate a birthday dinner. This place needs to get its act together. Will NEVER return.
Took our granddaughter out for dinner to this restaurant as she has just started in Ottawa University. We had a very disappointing dinner. The chicken pot pie was extremely salty. The fish in the fish and chips was miniature. The food was way overpriced and the quality was terrible. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Super yum. Thank you for the great service and yummy fish and chips!
I went to the Clarendon yesterday, to celebrate my birthday with my friends. We all ordered food at the same time, everyone got their food except me. They did not even check up on me, not once. The waiter who took our order shows up after everyone has already finished eating. And then I had to tell him that I don t want my food anymore because I m not planning on eating alone. I do not recommend going there on your birthday or any special occasion cuz they ll make sure to disappoint you.
Great happy hour!
Had brunch here in the early afternoon, food was very yummy, good flavour, nice presentation and filling!
To be very fair, food was decent. Service though, that s a whole other thing. Sat down for 20 minutes before water was brought to the table, then another 30 minutes until someone came and got our drinks and food order. 45 Minutes went by, 2 out of the 3 dishes came out. I probably will never come back again even if the food is good. You can find good food anywhere but you can t find 2 hours for lunch everyday.
The food itself was good, but the Falafel plate was ridiculous in size, it could barely be called an appetizer, even though it was part of the main course ($24). The service is then decidedly disappointing: we ask for bread, which does not arrive. Only after finishing the dishes do they ask us if we still want the bread and obviously we say no. Uncourteous waiters. In Canada tipping is almost mandatory and they do nothing to deserve it.
Very nice and welcoming place inside, the food was very good, the artisanal pizza and the hamburger. The dish of Korean chicken wings is particular, cooked very well. The service is efficient.
We were really impressed with the delicious pizza and desserts! Our server was wonderful and made us feel special. It was too cool to sit in the beautiful courtyard, so we hope to do tgat when we return.
Went here for a beer. The waiter was a bit grumpy and not really friendly. The beer was nice. The atmosphere okay.
Was serve by Shae and I have never experienced better service in my life. She was so attentive gave us great recommendations for the food and overall just an amazing server
Their patio is fabulous. As are the sausage rolls at happy hour!
went there twice. unfortunately neither the food nor the service was good either times. the food is overpriced for the quality. got the fish and chips and the burger. comme si comme ca.
Might have been the day of the week I went, but the service was not great, and I know people who go and enjoy their time here. I did not. Service was slow even when there were not many people dining. Gluten-free options were minimal, and the server did not have much knowledge as to what food items could be altered to be gluten-free. The items I did eat were tasty, I just wish there were more options.
Excellent lunch. Staff very friendly.
Fantastic happy hour in the best courtyard in the market! So lovely and romantic!
A favourite Byward spot. Mid-range prices, such yummy food, good service, great location. My favourite thing they do is actually their side salad, and my partner likes their burger!
Really enjoyed the food and service. There was something missing from our order but waiter rectified it quickly. Made for a great Mother s Day brunch!
Delicious
Server was friendly but food was bland and wasnt worth the price we paid .
Its a very nice place with very nice staff. Its a bit classy for myself, but if youre trying to impress someone, I 100% recommend you go here!!!! That Food
The food is nice and tasty but the portions are very small for the price.
Fantastic food and service!
Nicely located spot for afternoon drinks in a historic stone building. Weather permitting, try to get a seat in the cobblestone courtyard patio if you can. 2024 update: slow is the new motto. Nobody seemed to know what their role was. We waited for long periods to order and pay, despite it not being busy at all.
If I could give this place no stars, I would. I had a reservation here last night with a friend. We had never been before. To say things were disorganized there is an understatement. 10 minutes waiting at the door before I had to flag someone down to be seated. When my friend arrived, she had also waited 10 minutes by the door before she texted me to know where I was, bypassing the front. People who came after us got served, while every server walked by us for 30 min straight--we were in a high-traffic spot and we shouldnt have to wave people down to be acknowledged. We decided to go elsewhere, letting a server know why on the way out. In so doing, the server didnt even apologize. Ive never felt like such an inconvenience at a restaurant before. There are enough restaurants in the market that you can avoid this one. I obviously cant comment on their menu.
Great food, atmosphere and staff. Expensive but definitely worth it!
I ordered the brazed beef pizza, the sauce was way too salty. Sauce needs some work also amount of sauce was drowning the pizza. Spent night drinking a ton of water. Friends ordered burgers and salad. Their meal looked good. Great atmosphere and good service.
I popped in here for the first time on Easter Sunday at the bar side (Hyde). We indulged in happy hour (daily 4-6) and was served by a lovely friendly Australian young man. He had his service on, myself with service industry background, I felt he knew how to work the patrons, he was on the ball. He recommended some cocktails which were awesome. I had the tuna salad, it was amazing. I took a friend there yesterday (12 May) We had the prosciutto pizza it was delicious, the wings to die for. I had the lost plane and casablanca cocktails, very good for happy hour cocktails. Service, this time is lacked somewhat. The decor is really nice too. Bright and airy. I highly recommend this place on the byward market if you havent been yet. Ill be back again with friends, hopefully on the patio this time, to give it another go. Cheers ~Bella
Good food, bad service. 2.5 hours for a couple drinks and appetizers.
The food was very bad. We couldn t eat all the dish. The fries were refried. The drinks weren t good either. I don t recommend this place if you appreciate the good taste of food
We were at the losing end of a short staffer Saturday. Took >2 hours for lunch, burger was overcooked, most people happy though. Could have been great, was mostly annoying.
Service was slow. Slow for drinks, slow to take order, slow for food, slow for bill. Nice people though. Atmosphere was nice, clean, and trendy. Music was spot on. Food was tasty, but I had the Steak Frites.. the plate was mostly fries, a tiny steak, and a bit of chopped mushrooms. Prices were a bit high for what you get. This is a good date night place. It is good to try. Beer selection was good, but could be better.
The food was really good but their mocktails were not, and there weren t many options
Johnny is a fantastic bartender . Play dealer choice with him and you won t be disappointed . The Clarendon pie is amazing . Home dough and home jus. Fantastic pizzas !!! Thank you again Johnny aka the Aussie !
Went for Easter brunch with the family. Great service, good food. Not alot of vegetarian options.
Came here with some work colleagues for dinner. I had the Nicoise Salad. Very good. They have a good selection of food that would satisfy anybody. Service was great and prompt. It was not noisy inside so we could actually talk with each other which was nice.
First visit involved food, which was very good. Second visit was situated at the bar. Servers were young, diners were not as young. Two TVs to look at it. Service was good. Nice place.
Two visits to this bar during our trip to Ottawa. Very friendly service and good food and drink
Tourist trap. Food is not as advertised on menu. $23 for brunch that youd expect at a dirty highway stop restaurant. Sourdough bread is just regular toast, slow roasted tomatoes were stone cold, 3 or 4 tiny pieces of burnt onion, added sausage was barely warm. Plate came missing half the items listed on the menu, had to keep asking about it all in order to receive it, and it all came cold. For a place that puts so much effort in appearances, I did not expect to come here and have flash backs of eating out of dumpsters behind a grillhouse.
The pizza are amazing. They dont serve these all the time we wanted to go back but unfortunately they dont sell pizza when they are doing weekend brunch which is such a shame as they are the best thing they do.
The food was very tasty and good drink selection. However, the service was really struggling. It was not busy and we still waited a very long for them to acknowledge us and take our order. They didn t check on us once. It was also very warm inside.
Best pizza
Fantastic Canadian Angus Steak. Very cheerful gentleman served. Invited him to my Country 254 !
Service was poor, and food was not cooked as I asked. Music too loud.
Tavern with a classic atmosphere. The waiter automatically applied 20% tip to the bill!
So, so close to 5stars. An exceptional menu, variety of well crafted dishes! We shared the scallops and squash/kale salad starters. Celeriac purée under the bacon-dusted scallops was brilliant, the kale was a little mature - needed the happy ending massage to tenderize; squash was mid, the shallot and garlic dressing was overpowering - easily our least favourite. For mains - she had the pork chop tomahawk - an excellent dish with perfectly prepared fingerlings and braised red cabbage. I had the hangar steak - 10/10 excellent with the frites! The Moroccan orange cake with chocolate was stupendous! Service from Jordan was personable and amazing; the only challenge of running a 12 table section was the refilling of drinks, clearing of plates impossible to keep up!
I was so impressed by this restaurant! They had only one vegan option on the menu (the hummus platter) but I asked if they could make the flatbread without cheese and they did. They compensated by adding extra veggies which were cooked just right and the sauce was so delicious. Our server was amazing, went with a group of 7. She was kind, thoughtful and very attentive. Will definitely come back here!
Magnificent place, I recommend it
Food was mediocre and over priced. Server was hard to get hold of during lunch. Guess it s probably more for the drinks. Food : 3/5
Loved the happy hour selection.
Great happy hour, great food, out waiter was a lot of fun. The whole experience exceeded our expectations for a Tuesday happy hour.
I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at The Clarendon Tavern. The food was good, though I felt it could have been a bit more flavorful. Nonetheless, the overall experience was positive, and I would recommend it for a satisfying meal.
We really enjoyed the happy hours at Clarendon. The pizza and drinks were excellent. My new favorite spot in Ottawa. The girl at reception who took care of us was such a nice and efficient guest.
An enjoyable dinner was had last night at The Claredon Tavern. We arrived just before happy hour ended - we were unaware that this existed on a Saturday night. To our delight our server, Eric, delivered our drink orders in good time. Our food choices comprised the Tiki chicken pizza, duck confit pizza, smashed burger and fries. Everything was delicious! We will return again and again. The atmosphere is lounge elegant with retro lamps, large windows and grey stone walls.
Second time ordering their smash burger. Both times delicious.
The food was very good
I came here for a birthday party, and despite us being a large group, the service was great. I got the Tuna Tartar and my partner got the Smash Burger, and both were delicious. It was the perfect ratio of tartar to crackers and fries to sauce. I personally wouldnt recommend coming here for drinks though. I had two different cocktails and for how much theyre charging, there was barely any alcohol. We also came on a Friday, when they were supposed to close at 1, but they stopped serving drinks at 11 so we had to leave early to go somewhere else. Would come back for brunch and the dinner though.
Editing my original review, which is still in the last paragraph. I have eaten here more than half a dozen times over the last year. Dinner has been consistently delicious ( though prices have gone up since summer 2022). However when we once came for brunch, two out of three dishes were served completely cold, and one benny had rotten peameal bacon. And I dont mean a bit less than fresh. When I brought this to our servers attention, she asked if we would like more of it, which obviously received an enthusiastic no. Hopefully this was a one-off. Original review: I am brokenhearted that I have ignored this space after the Black Tomato closed. The food here is fantastic. Fairly simple, straightforward recipes in the mains section shine. The apps are pretty delightful too. In addition to the best patio in the city. Id say that this is one of Ottawas best.
I went for happy hour with a friend. Everything about it was excellent - the food/drinks, the service and the atmosphere. Super impressed. The GM served us and he is clearly passionate about this restaurant.
It was a second choice on a Friday afternoon, and it was fine but not great. I would go back but not rushing to get back there again.
Excellent customer service. Delicious food. Nice ambiance
We went here for Sunday dinner, and because the winter weather was not great it was quiet. We enjoyed two of the most delicious pork loin dinners weve ever had after sharing a deconstructed cob salad. The service was pleasant but not at all pushy. We had drinks plus wine with dinner.
The beef brisket sandwich, the Scotch egg, the beef tartare were amazing. Atmosphere is great and service is most excellent. Cocktail was good too! But those French fries though.... were out of this world
Kid-friendliness: We brought our newborn baby for a brunch, they had a spot to leave our stroller, and they gave us an intimate table in case our baby cried (which thankfully he didnt). Great service Food
Staff is great, nice ambience. But the wuality of our food was low. The fries were old.
Best Drinks and excellent staff
The menu is very limited and absolutely nothing for non meat eaters
this place was amazing!! the interior, the service everything was great!! Absolutely delicious Chicken Pesto pizza!! A good selection of beers and cocktails! Will definitely go again!
Great atmosphere and food. Cozy venue with friendly and professional staff (minus the first pour ). Highly recommend. Parking: If you are willing to park further, you can park under the city hall after 5 and on weekends for cheap.
Fantastic location. Came for Brunch. Menu is limited but nice selections and very well prepared . Great service friendly and attentive. Beautiful bar area. Smoked bacon Caesar ++
Nice
Went for brunch. Had eggs Benedict which I was a but disappointed with. Was not bad but found it a bit bland. I think adding paprika wouldve helped. Strive and ambiance was very food. No complaints there.
Come for the brunch on the weekend and get the Sangria with all the juices and enjoy
Delicious food and fantastic service which included a spot-on recommendation.
Great food, lovely server slow service from the bar
Two words: mimosa bar.
The food here has gone downhill in the past year. Horrible fish and chips and mediocre flatbread. Disappointing!
Lovely environment. Very slow service and the food was... meh. The scotch egg was the highlight. Wont be back.
Lovely atmosphere and excellent service. Very much enjoyed the fish and chips. Comfortable and quiet booth on a busy Thursday.
made us wait an hour for our food and they never came to chek on us to let us know if something went wrong.the entrees were cold, drinks were good and the server was cool. i do not recommend
Cant beat dinner in the courtyard! Buger was delicious and server was very friendly.
Overall experience wonderful!
Absolutely adored my weekday lunch here. The food were flavourful and very original takes on classic foods. Really enjoyed the variety of cocktails and beverages on tap. Cant wait to return!
Great place for food and drinks! Their courtyard set up is amazing!
Ok. Expected more
Good service, good atmosphere and good meal.
Such a cozy vibe inside, very nicely decorated. Food was delicious, had the braised beef. Very yummy. Not a ton of craft beers ( Calabogie mostly), service was a bit inexperienced but overall it was fine. The patio in the courtyard though is KILLER!!
We had a blast! We were outside in the inner court during the ottawa marathon, so it was very festive.
Friendly and well located. I recommend. However, I will always be deeply surprised to see that a little French is received as if it were Kyrgyz or Kalmyk... Astonished looks, a stunned, incredulous and pale expression... Without pretending to be bilingualism of otherwise poorly paid employees, we can expect, from young people in particular, a certain level of passive French. After all, its Ottawa, not a town in Oklahoma....
The place is beautiful- food wasn t the best, but the staff were welcoming and kind.
The two of us enjoyed dinner enough to return the next evening with three friends. Rose sangria was light and not too boozy. Gravilax trout on beets is a keeper. Salad with trout on top was great. Good selection of a dozen beers and a full bar. Good value for money. Cheerful bartender/server both nights. Added scenes of the bar side.
I had two drinks off the happy hour menu and my bill was $35. When I mentioned that I was over charged they told me that my drinks were rung in after happy hour and were full price. I ordered them well before happy hour was over (as I only ordered them because it was happy hour), and watched the bar tender only ring them in as I was about to pay. As someone who has worked in a bar for six years, I think this was incredibly unprofessional. I will likely not be coming back.
Arrived during the daily Happy Hour and we each got a beer and an app. One app was a Braised BBQ beef flatbread and the other was pork belly with a mango sauce and thinly sliced carrots, pepper and green onion. Both were absolutely delicious and a generous portion was served. Some of the best food weve had in our travels! Hope we can make it back another day.
Food was very good ... service was slow ..great patio
Friendly and fast. Great atmosphere.
25 mins without even taking a drinks order, waitress smiled and wished us a good night as she saw us leaving. Pathetic service, it was not busy, we were simply ignored.
Unfortunately, we arent able to try the food as even after 25 min they still hadnt taken our drinks order. There was hardly anyone making sure the patio was serviced. It wasnt busy, we were just ignored after they showed us our table.
We had a disappointing experience with the service at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the service was exceptionally slow. It took a lengthy 40 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and our food didnt show up until an hour later. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasnt even busy at that time. Food wasnt great at all.
Super slow inattentive service from servers.
Came for brunch and loved the eggs Benedict.
Excellent service at one of the best patios in the Byward Market. Food was pretty good. The avocado toast could have had slightly more seasoning. And the egg wasnt seasoned at all. The Virgin Ceasar was really good! Excellent flavour, nice garnish and well presented.
Went to lunch here with friends while visiting Ottawa for the Canada Day weekend. Patio was terrific. Located in the Byward market just steps away from Parliament Hill.
Came here tonight and the food lacked I ordered the braised beef and as it was tender it lacked in flavour and they skimped on the au jus I came here a handful of times but I m not happy this time around and the server seemed to be more worried about cleaning the bar then checking in with us by the time I was done my dinner I couldn t ask for more jus for my braised beef as I was finished with it I m a little disappointed this time around.
Pizza and burgers are delicious!
They have a great hidden patio surrounded by vintage buildings, a very nice place to have a meal. Unfortunately, the meal itself and the drinks were bad. The presentation, the ingredients, the cooking, everything was mediocre. Its very low quality dining, definitely not what you would normally expect from a restaurant.
Sorry folks, but Id never return here. The food may have been technically correct, but parts undercooked and flavours unimpressive. My initial thought was, Uh oh, I hope I dont get food poisoning. and thankfully, I didnt. Staff was kind, but they all came across as more concerned about their colleague banter than any of the guests experiences. I left a bit stunned and definitely disappointed. Id avoid it in the future.
The server lack basic customer service skills. They were just interested in bantering amongst themselves. Took them 30 minutes for them to get my drink. Went at a time that wasn t busy. They look like they were fully staffed. But 4-5 looks like they were on break. I wish they had the previous staff and bartenders they were good
Highly disorganized place. I dont know if they are dealing with a staff shortage or bad management but they are disorganized. Had to flag down the server multiple times for the order, gave me the wrong menus, the food wait was over 30 minutes for drinks alone and another 40 for food. if you are thinking of having brunch as a spur of the moment type thing, go somewhere else. I had a reservation of 6 ready for 11:00 AM and they still made us wait 10 minutes to get the table ready. You will wait a very long time for service and the server was aloof enough that it was off-putting. They definitely do not move with a sense of urgency. Food is nothing special. It definitely does not take 40 minutes to prepare an English breakfast.
Nice patio but the food is definitely not worth the money. The hamburger is small and tastes exactly like a McDonald s hamburger. The side spinach salad looked like it was a day old. The brisket flatbread was burnt and tasteless. The halloumi salad was the only acceptable dish. Service was slow. We were left for half hour to make selection from menu only to be told we were given the lunch menu by mistake. Then it took another 30 hour to get our order in. Nonetheless the waiter was polite and courteous. Very disappointing as we ve had good experiences in the past.
We just got drinks for Appy hour. But its a really cool old building with a great atmosphere. The servers were friendly, and the drinks were cold
Nice patio for an evening drink with refreshing summer cocktails in a heritage courtyard. Friendly service.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in the Byward Market. I always order their beef flatbread, and I m never disappointed! The cocktails are great, the courtyard patio is cute, but the service is slow. I think they may be understaffed like so many other places these days. Overall, I would recommend, just don t go if you re in a rush! Dietary restrictions: I have a nut allergy and it wasn t a problem to accommodate!
Food was divine, and our server was the best!
Happy hour specials are legittt Edit: I still come for happy hour but service the last two times has been pretty bad. 10-20 minute wait to get menus then another 20 minutes to get drinks. Ill probably look for somewhere else to go before coming back.
We want to love it but Id recommend Sidedoor or Social instead. The 3 stars are for food and atmosphere. Great patio in the summer and food was tasty, as expected. But we watched our server leave halfway through our meal without saying anything to us, and then we sat outside for ~20-30 minutes with empty glasses and no other server in sight. I finally had to go in and ask the bartender for our bills. The space is nice but Id recommend Sidedoor, Social, or Courtyard for the same patio but a better overall experience. Very disappointing, unfortunately.
Our daughter and son in law had their reception here. The food was great, the atmosphere fantastic and the staff was awesome!!
I love the place! I love the ambiance, but unfortunately the food is not that good. Short options. Actually, to be honest, the food tastes good but Id like to have more options. Im always having the same caponata dish or salad. But the place... nice things were celebrated there in my family.
Great food and beer!
Good food and great atmosphere
Everyone(5) enjoyed the food, the atmosphere is fantastic. Highly recommend.
Great service and amazing happy hour Vegetarian options: Plenty Food : 5/5 |
Really beautiful venue. Service and atmosphere were amazing. Food menu is limited, not a ton of options, but delicious. Drink menu is extensive!
Great service and some of the best cocktails I ve had in the city.
Great place. Quick service and great food.
Phenomenal cocktails. I had the Niçoise salad and it was delicious. Unique menu with fresh ingredients. I also highly recommend their purple rain cocktail. Cat s meow is nice too. Highly recommend; we ll be back.
Amazing drinks and food
2023-11-10: tried this place the first time. We were there for happy hour (not many places in Ottawa offer happy hour until 6pm!). The cocktails were delicious and they have lots of choices. The cauliflower was so good that we ended up ordering 3 plates instead of sharing 1 among 3 people . The pizzas and wings were yummy too. We will definitely go back!
Pizza is not so good. Sausage roll
I came here for brunch with a group of girls. We all loved everything about it - the food, atmosphere and service were all excellent! We also had some dietary restrictions in the group (one vegetarian, one dairy free) that were easily accommodated. I can t wait to come back for dinner one day!
Dinner menu is artisinal and curated seemingly upscale but not at an up-scale price. I ordered a gourmet-sounding mushroom pizza. Dough was very good but I was sadly underwhelmed by the sauce and toppings. Would not order that again, hence my food rating Drink menu is pretty extensive and they offer some lovely looking cocktails. My party of 5 chose this place for the vibes, and the Clarendon delivered on that. Beautiful MCM decor, low lighting and comfortable seating. They had no problem accomodating this size of group. Service was quick and polite. Nothing stand-out, but no complaints. I would recommend The Clarendon for a chill night out with friends! Vegetarian options: Saw quite a few vegetarian options on the menu... My own order was a vegtarian pizza. Parking: Street parking is free on Sundays in Ottawa Wheelchair accessibility: Definitely not. Stairs at every entrance.
Nice tavern in the center of Ottawa, nice staff and fair prices
Great! Try their Happy Hour!!! Good individual pizzas, decent appetizers! Atmosphere and decorations really good, it s like being in the old port of Montreal . It really does the job, and the blonde loved the cocktails!
Lovely atmosphere (except for the artwork which should be classified as what were you thinking? IMO) and gorgeous festive drinks. But it is expensive (but a/ its the Claredon and b/almost everywhere is at this time of year). Staff were friendly and amusing and surprisingly casual - possibly overly so?? Didnt bother me but was less up market pub and more sports bar, I felt.
I visited twice during a work trip due to their incredibly happy hour ($10 pizzas, $9 cauliflower wings and $10 cocktails). The service was friendly and efficient, and the ambience is awesome (brick walls, hardwood floors, historic character). Highly recommend stopping in and trying their food and fun cocktails (the Cats Meow was a great mix of sour and sweet with a touch of bitterness). Parking: Theres a parkade on the same block, and some paid street parking right outside the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: The front door is three steps off the sidewalk, and the dining room is one step above the bar/front door area.
My date and I were at the Clarendon Tavern on the evening of Dec. 9 2023 for drinks and dessert. The bartender was absolutely amazing, maybe some of the best service Ive ever had! Im alcohol-free and his mocktails were awesome. Also, he picked up on our less than enthused reaction to one of the desserts from across the bar and quickly took care of us! I wish I had gotten his name - he deserves the recognition!
Tasty menu and the beer selection was on point. I had the poke and it was excellent
Friendly service, cute decor. The food came out pretty quickly - we all ordered the flat breads and were all pleased with the meal. Will definitely be back.
If there are negative stars I would give it to this place. As soon as we arrived and sat down, the hostess said that we have limited time to eat as the table is reserved for later, although when we reserved few days before going they didn t inform us that we re limited in our dining time. We asked to change our table since the one we have is busy later, and they said that all other tables around us are reserved, although the hostess was lying (we stayed there for an hour and no one showed up to any of the tables). When we wanted to order they kept asking when do we expect the remaining guests to come as we need to hurry up and eat. This was it for us, we asked them not to put in our order until they confirm another table which is free as we reserved a table for the night. The hostess came back and said I m curious why do you want to change the table? I thought she was joking when she asked this. This was it for us, I paid for the beer I ordered and left. We couldn t stand sitting there with the hostess going around our table every minute waiting for us to order and leave although we had a reservation. The waiter was nice and tried to help by getting us another table, but the hostess kept refusing changing the table. I will never go back to this place and I don t recommend anyone going there.
The wine selection, exceptionally good. The service, more than exceptionally good (Natalie, thank you for taking such good care of me and my dietary restrictions - you ve made quite the lasting impression). The 4 stars is for the food. I was expecting much better, especially for a set menu (engagement party). Some was good, some was great, some really lacked flavour for the price it was. I ll be back for that New Zealand sauv blanc though :)
Staff were friendly and attentive. Nice place and a good vibe.
Get the chicken & waffles!
Went there yesterday morning for brunch. Waitress was nice, food was good, but not worth witnessing our kind waitress get berated by (who I presume to be) the manager. He not only once, but multiple times, loudly expressed his annoyance at her for normal things like talking to guests until she looked like she was about to cry. He also made crude jokes about another server touching him. Very unprofessional to do that to someone, especially in front of customers! I cannot support a place with management like this, though my heart goes out to those poor girls getting harassed.
Went for brunch on Sunday Oct 16 at 1pm. My friend ordered eggs benedict. The eggs were hard boiled, the hollandaise sauce was hardened onto the eggs and the English muffins were so tough she could barely cut through them. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Their waffle maker was not functioning so I asked for pancakes instead of the waffles with the chicken as I figured the batter would be the same. The waitress brings out a plate of sweet pancakes with whip cream and berries with a piece of hot sauce covered fried chicken on top.... I clearly stated i just wanted pancakes with the chickens and waffles dish, not a stack of sweet pancakes with hot sauce covered chicken. It took them the entirety of my friend eating her meal for them to bring out my actual meal, which is incredibly rude. Not sure how you mess something like that up. The waitress did bring us a mimosa for free and some of my meal was comped but the entire meal should have been free. What a disaster of a restaurant. Horrible experience, do not waste your time here. There are far better places in the Byward market that deserve your time and money.
Best restaurant in Ottawa. Amazing atmosphere, staff, music, food, the whole deal. 100% would recommend!!
LOVE this place!! The food. The service. The atmosphere. Perfect spot for dinner!
Wonderful atmosphere with delicious food and reasonable pricing. I had the burger with potato buns and it was an absolute delight.
Prices are a bit high but the happy hour was excellent and service was pleasant and professional.
The service and drinks were awesome. The building is very pretty. The food is wildly awful: like, really weird. Please do something to improve the food.
Fantastic food (Sunday dinner), location, service. Clean plates all round!
Friendly and prompt service went for a glass of wine, did not disappoint!
My boyfriend wanted to stop in and get a tequila shot. I got a margarita. Then he ordered a second shot then we got the bill. The 2 shots came too 36 dollars 18 dollars per shot I guess lol. more than my one drink. We were a bit taken a back but figured it was a very good tequila. Then I looked at menu when I got home and realized its just Altos tequila which is 28 a bottle.
Good spot, nice brunch, nice atmosphere and little outdoor courtyard.
I learned about the Clarendon Tavern from Google Maps, and the decision about my visit depended on the rating. From the outside, the tavern looks unassuming. And a completely different feeling arises when you get into the courtyard. There is an absolutely European atmosphere here. In the courtyard of brick building under the trees shade on the cobblestone pavement there are many tables. On the my visit day (Sunday, noon) it wasnt crowded. As for the food, it seemed to me quite tasty. 3 Egg omlette, homefries and buttered sourdough were delicious and fresh. The cappuccino was also great! But, my dear Canadians, to be completely honest, Im not a big fan of such carbohydrate breakfasts, consisting of hash browns, toasts, jam and ketchup and the like. All this is very likely to lead to obesity. And this is not a claim to the tavern (all the dishes were cooked very well), its rather a claim to the entire North American culinary tradition. I would suggest introducing a healthier alternative . If we talk about the service, it was timely, polite and courteous. I was satisfied!!! The Clarendon Tavern is the only place in Ottawa Ive been, but my experienced Local Guide eye indicates that this place claims to be the best in the city!!!
Nice Restaurant and friendly staff.
Tried out this restaurant for brunch today with some friends. The menu is great, with some unqiue options. Our server, Justin, was really personable and made for a great first experience. We will definitely be back; this place seems like a hidden gem for brunch! Also, the interior is absolutely beautiful.
We were a large group. Probably should have had 2 servers. But the one we had did a fantastic job. Food was really good. I enjoyed it.
Went for lunch with work colleagues. Everyone loved their food. Pictured is my meal, salad, and French onion soup. The dressing on the salad was divine. The broth of the soup had an awesome flavour that included some smokiness super yum!
Cocktails as amazing as the bartenders. I had a lovely time here tonight!
