The Greek Souvlaki House in Ottawa

This is a small crowded place with most tables seating only 4, but the server made room for my family of 8 at the front. Most of the space is taken up by the open kitchen with its noises, and there is a brisk takeout business with the telephone ringing and a steady flow of customers and deliverers. Its a Greek village hubbub right here in Hunt Club! Prices are very reasonable, under $20 per serving, for the servings are so large that one is ample for two diners. Each meal begins with a fresh, crisp and tasty Greek salad, then continues with the main dishes once they are prepared. The spinach moussaka and the breaded deep-fried calamari earned top reviews from my guests. The lean peppery beef gyro (pronounced yee-roh) is made in house and the lamb souvlaki (meat grilled on a skewer) was well marinated. The rice was perfectly cooked with an excellent sauce, and the quartered potatos were mealy and tender as they should be. Everything is in generous quantity and super tasty. Service is friendly and prompt. And, they offer their standard takeout containers to take leftovers home without having to ask. (We used one.) Definitely worth a visit with a friend.

Huge portions, which is standard for most Greek fare, however... Everything is delicious. Their Spiro sauce is the best Ive had, their salad dressing I could almost drink and their gyro is thick cut and always crispy on one side from a fine tuned rotisserie. They care about their food and it shows.

Our party had three different variations of souvlaki pitas. They were all tasty. Calamari was also tasty - fresh and not rubbery. In addition to the great food, great staff. We came in later in the day, and I left behind a bag by mistake, and by the time I discovered my mistake it was after closing. I got ahold of the staff and they offered to come back and reopen the restaurant to get my bag. This was a lifesaver as my party was leaving Ottawa early in the morning, and we were able to avoid a huge problem. Thanks so much!

Amazing food, and amazing service. All the ingredients look and taste fresh, and the amount of food you get makes it worth every penny. The seating area is a bit tight, but I could see why its a challenge given the shape of the dining area.

Honestly haven t been able to find a Greek place where I ve enjoyed their food since moving to Ottawa as much as the little place I used to work until I found this place. The tzatziki is to die for, their pitas come with so much on them, their spiro sauce and rice is great and their portions are amazing. I m always impressed every time I get delivery from them. The Greek salads and housemade dressing are amazing and always great customer service. 3 stars for atmosphere only cuz its small and you can hear everything in the back while dining lol but wont put me off going back

We dined in the restaurant which we have not done since before Covid. The service was poor. In experienced server with no knowledge of waiting tables. Priority went to all the Uber eats delivery staff. Food is excellent, large portions. I will not dine in again.

Really good greek food. We normally get take out here, the souvlaki or gyro platters. The gyro is amazing. We like to air fry the potatoes to crisp them up when we get home. The food is really high quality, like a good home cooked meal for a good price. I would give 5 stars but theres a couple of things that bug me about here: - The tzatziki they give you with the platter is really small, not enough for the platter, and they charge you for an extra one. - The platter does not come with a pita, which is standard at other Greek places Ive been to. Cosmos is a similar mom and pop Greek spot that does not nickle and dime for small things like this and I think it makes it a nicer experience. Other than these small things, this restaurant is really good and I highly recommend it!

Nice and cozy, great dessert selection and the staff was very helpful. The portions are kind of big so be wary of eating with your eyes. The fries were extra crunchy and fresh, loved it.

I was really looking forward to this meal, had not eaten all day. So dissapointed, the beef was good but potatoes and rice were awful. I wasnt the only one who noticed tonight. I hope the constructive criticism brings their game up. 1st time trying their desserts and that too wasnt the best. For the price I have reservations.

The mousaka is delicious, and it seems to be the onlg Greek restaurant in Ottawa that offers taramosalata for delivery (this is a MUST have for any Greek meal for me!). It is my absolute go-to Greek restaurant now.

The salad is balls to the wall AWESOME. Lotsa chicken, lots olives, lotsa pickled peppers. Love me a healthy weekday meal with a side dish of probiotics. Veggies are always excellent quality. Fries are a delicacy from the gods. Excellent spice. Pitas good too. Platters are like 8 delicious meals, possibly too much rice. Go here or at least get some takeout. Get yourself some cute little ouzo mints while youre at it.

I ve been a fan of this place since their old location - way back when I was a little kid! I kid you not, I stopped being a vegetarian after 7 years when I learned they reopened. The pork souvlaki meal, garlic bread, and calamari changed my life LOL! Such nice people too! Can t wait to go back :)

I used to be a regular at here for years even before they moved to this location. One of my favourite places. I ordered for takeout pork souvlaki dinner extra skewer of chicken as well. I asked them if it was possible to bring it out to my car cause I am handicapped and they were very helpful with that. Now the food. Unfortunately it s not the same as before. Skewers were dry and overdone burnt . Bland . Rice and potatoes were bland as well. I guess it was a bad day or it s like it used to be. Anyway the guy who brought it out to me was very nice hoped I enjoyed my meal. Maybe next time.

Decided to give this place a try today since it was close to where I was hanging out with a friend. This place is a hidden gem. The portions are very generous unlike most places nowadays that cheap out. The lamb souvlaki platter was amazing and I really loved the salad before the meal. Will be back !

Delicious food! We got a large catering package and some extra skewers and it was more than enough food for our party (30ish people). Everyone loved their meals. Mark was very helpful with the ordering process, and they helped load everything into my car, which was super sweet! Will definitely be ordering again . Vegetarian options: Rice, salad, potatoes

This was a good eat. The chicken was a little bitter/burnt tasting but overall, I enjoyed my chicken soulvaki.

Fantastic meal all around. This is one of Ottawas best authentic Greek restaurants, bar none. Yes it s small. Yea seating is limited. But the quality and freshness of the food, paired with the fantastic customer service is worth the visit. We tend to be one trick ponies when we eat here. The wife will have a platter or a Greek salad, I do a pita wrap (tomatoes onion tzatziki). And doesn t matter if it s today or 8 years ago it s always the same high quality I come to expect from them. But tonight we agreed to share a basic order of fries. Most restaurants have the same old boring shoe string fries, drop em and serve em. These hand cut fries were coated in an amazing powdered slice/rub that made them stand out by themselves. Staff as mentioned is friendly, courteous, and quick to get you in and served. And as small and tight as the place is? You do not feel or get rushed to finish and leave. Thanks as always for a great dinner out.

This was always my go to place . The Chicken filet dinner was always Homestyle full chicken breast Which was a specific selling point as to why I ordered there . Today I got two pieces of chicken the legit size of my thumb , with the raise in prices one would assume quality would stay the same or get better. Very Dissatisfied considering I ve been a returning customer for years

Portions are very generous and the food was comforting & tasty, (I had never had spiro sauce before & seriously underestimated how much I was going to like it) and the instructions were followed perfectly. Yum! I wanted a nice Greek salad with grilled chicken and this place delivered! Portions were huge. Salad and veg were very fresh, house made dressing delicious. Hot girl summer approved.

We ordered from here based on the majority glowing reviews. I think the negative comments complaining about a change of ownership are the ones you need to trust. The Greek potatoes are just boiled unpeeled potatoes with no seasoning. Everything is just bland. Huge portions dont really make up for the lack of any kind of seasoning. This is somehow worse than cafeteria food. I gave two stars instead of one because it was at least fully cooked.

I really wanted to give a higher review but I must warn others, its just really not good. Very bland, I had to actually recook the food on the stove to give the potatoes and rice a bit more salt and flavour. Really defeats the purpose when you are spending almost 60 dollars for delivery. It hurts.

Great find! I m not from Ottawa and when travelling tired of fast food. This is good food made fast. Fresh ingredients and tasty. Nice guys working there very comfortable atmosphere Good value for the money. Highly recommend and I will be back on my next trip.

The food is excellent here and the staff is very friendly . I still prefer the original location on prince of whales. The taste of the food is similar however the amount of food now is much less, the portions are average compared to before. I suggest you add more sauce to the rice and load up on the potatoes like the old days.

Excellent quality for a take-out place. (not sure why the bad reviews). Came here with hubs during a business trip in April. We ordered gyro pita, chicken souvlaki pita, calamari, salads (house and village) and cheesecake. Hubs is Greek so if he approves, then you know its a good. Saw many locals coming in as well. Portion sizes- large! took out some of the gyro meat and made another sandwich. The dressing and sauces that came with calamari and salads were uniquely tasty! (sort of like a dill tzatziki) Service- excellent. Friendly and greeted as soon as we came in, fast service. It seemed like an owner or manager serving us. we could hear him calling out our orders to staff and and asking and telling his staff the timing of when food was going to be ready so theyd be ready for the next step to finish assembling the order/dish. Food was assembled to order. Gyro was of course already made (shaved off a spit). Price- $$ reasonable!! for the quality and amount of food. We got 1 of 2 slices of cheesecake for free b/c we were on the fence about what flavour to get. Nice gesture!! Well definitely return next time were in Ottawa.

We ve been ordering takeout from here for a couple years. Very disappointed tonight our food was cold, our orders were wrong, the beef (that I didn t order) was tough and chewy my salad seemed to be nothing but lettuce and one slice of tomato, all in all very unappetizing. We also made a discovery, that s all I m going to say. I mentioned to my wife that if this was my first time ordering from here I would never order again, and now as I type this, I m seriously considering that.

Just ok. Based on tonights first order, I would not be going back. The Calamari appetizer and Chicken skewers were very overcooked. The potatoes were plain, almost boiled tasting. The tzatziki sauce did not smell or taste right. Im genuinely concerned. Rice with Spiro sauce was good, pita and salad was good. Overall quality low.

Use to enjoy this place until there prices went up and there portions got cut in half! 52 dollars for two chicken fillet plates which they cut one breast inhalf to make two lol! Sad to see they have no care in the world for there clients either! They said if I don t like it go somewhere else! No problem! I ll spend my money next time on a restaurant that takes pride and compassion in their food! Custermer service matters seeing I ve been going there for the last 6 years! Went here for the first time today. We ordered the lamb burger and pork souvlaki, and both were delicious! The servers were so kind, welcoming, and attentive. We were instantly greeted when we walked in the door, and they made us feel that they were happy we were there. It was a great experience, and well definitely be back!

Wow! Amazing food. There were 3 of us and we tried the chicken and pork souvlaki along with a beef gyro along with fries, greek potatoes and greek salad. We all shared and every food item was absolutely amazing and staff were incredible. Highly recommended and we will definitely return.

Simply a hidden gem. This is one of those tiny places hidden in an ally, as if you would be rewarded for finding them. The food was authentic, the staff were friendly, the food tasted amazing, and the portions are shockingly generous. The big picture frame of the four grandpas made the place feel even more warm and cozy. The background music was gentle. I couldnt complain even if I tried to find something against them.

The the double stacked gyros here are the best in the city, absolutely perfect.

We had takeout this evening and it was delicious. Tender lamb souvlaki, amazing potatoes, and excellent flavour throughout. The staff were friendly on the phone and in person when I picked up the food. Safe COVID-19 protocols in place. And they even threw in a delicious cookie. What a wonderful local business!

While the potatoes were not that special compared to other Greek restaurants (they were boiled and cut up), the meat was phenomenal. We had the lamb souvlaki, chicken souvlaki, lamb burger and the quality of the meat surpasses most other Greek restaurants Ive tried in Ottawa.

Since moving from Toronto to Ottawa, I have been hard pressed to find a decent (non franchised) Greek Restaurant that serves quality food and excellent service. Finding this place was an honest godsend. I am blown away by the food and service provided, dont sleep on their baklava, its pretty good. My favourite dish is their lamb souvlaki, did I mention their tzatziki is so bomb! Highly recommended! Dont forget to support your local small businesses that are struggling during this time!

The search for great Greek food in YOW STOPS here! We recently moved from YYZ, we ve been looking for a yummy option - and we ve tried plenty! This place rivals the best of the Danforth in Toronto. Don t be fooled by the prices and the decore - this place is on point with large portions. 2 mains and 2 sides fed 3 with leftovers for $54. Highly recommended

I dont know if youre having a bad night, but that was barely edible chicken and lamb souvlaki you served me. The Lamb was chewy beyond being edible, and the chicken tasted like a charcoal briquette. Pita and hummus were good, which made things a little confusing. But the fact that I am now experiencing GI symptoms makes this a 0/5 avoid at all costs.

Ordered the chicken souvlaki dinner and dessert for the first time this evening through Skip. Best decision! Its the most delicious Greek meal I have ever had with decent portions. The desserts are also large slices of cake and worth the price. There was an error with the delivery and Rayan made all effort to rectify it. Best Greek food Ive ever had!

Im not sure if there was a change in ownership or something but the food I got today was so unappetizing and such a waste of money. For 2 platters I paid 60 dollars and couldnt finish the food because of how disappointed I was. Im not sure whats going on but the quality of the food needs to improve asap, I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy, and for some reason the young guy in the back is always yelling at his workers

My prefered menu ever

Ordered chicken souvlaki. Unfortunately, it was a complete disappoinment. Really wasted money. Just about everything was bad. Potatoes overcooked and soggy. Rice was just simple cooked rice with canned tomato sauce. I mean come on, really? And it tastes sour. The chicken was overdone. Maybe other reviewers had a more positive experience. As for me I cant recommend the place and wont be going back.

As I contacted directly when I had a issue with Skip the Dish, The Greek Souvlaki House Staff was very compassionate to my problem. The second time I called back I got the owner and again was very helpful and compassionate to what went wrong with Skip the Dish. I ended up pick up my order due to Skip the Dish problem on delivery. The staff and owner new I was now having to drive out to pick my food. They made fresh new order as my hassle took over an hour with Skip the Dish. The Greek Souvlaki Staff did this out of kindness as this was not their problem. To top it all off they added a generous piece of chocolate cake, in hopes to make me feel better. Wow that was above to turn my experience around. When I got home and opened the container with the chocolate cake I was floored. It was to die for ... high end cake !! The packaging on my food was so well done. Everything packaged beautifully food looking delicious. Their food was amazing highly recommend their food service and packaging. Done with care !! I have been here many times. Friendly staff and delicious Greek food. Their tzatziki is incredible and I love their salad dressing. I will definitely be returning regularly.

Potentially the best Gyro Ive ever eaten. Tzatziki a little heavy on the dill but the portion sizes are amazing and the meat and side dishes are delicious. Customer service was excellent and the staff was great.

Best quality Greek food in Ottawa.

Ordered on line mid afternoon for a 5:30 pickup.....was ready at 530 exactly. Had a 15 min drive home and the containers they use kept all hot ready to eat. Highly recommend.

One of the best in Ottawa. I miss the big place, but the food is the same...really good! Everything is fresh, colourful and delish. Their Loukaniko is especially yummy, and all their souvlaki meats are moist. I do like their Spanakopita and usually end up eating it on the way home. Lol If you want a treat, order the Village Salad, its awesome! Both their Greek and Village salads are great, but the Village is my choice every time. ;) I definitely recommend this take-out slice of heaven.
