The Koven in Ottawa

I have no idea on the food because I stood at the entry for five minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge my existence.

Ok judge the style if you want, but metalheads are some of the friendliest people generally and when you mix that with well priced, really good tasting food...you need to just keep doing you and take my money. Oh...yes the Kreator burger with extra patty and Slipknot poutine was definitely worth the price. Cant wait to go again.

Not sure if they go by a different name on Uber Eats (Meaning they go by The Koven AND The Chip Wagon) but they share the same address! They charged and extra $2 for mayo addition on a hot dog, which is quite peculiar. Unimpressed with the extra charge, if these two businesses are in fact one in the same.

Ordered off uber eats. Made us wait 1 hour to cancel the order. Then once I called decided to finally tell me he did not have time to make the food for our order as restaurant was full. I do not mind being cancelled, just do not waste my evening.

Fun for metal fans, and also DELICIOUS food! The burgers looked simple but omg do not be fooled, the Atheist was one of the best veggie burgers Ive ever had, and my boyfriend said the same about his meat burger.

Love love love! Colby was an absolute amazing person to just vibe with! If I could rate higher I would because I will for sure be back! Food was amazing and drinks were perfect! Even with a random one I found online he still was able to make it for me with substitutions that made it even better!

If you re into great music and great food then you must come here. The decor is unique and any alt/goth/punk/metal head/rock fan/witch/wizard/etc. will feel right at home. The music is consistently good, with delicious burgers to match. Had the Amon Amarth and my partner had the signature Koven burger, would totally recommend both. Will return next time I m up in Ottawa!

i literally ordered through Uber Eats 4 items, i receive 2 items and those 2 items were totally wrong. First time and last time i will even order or even bother going down to the location. NOT WORTH IT!!!

I was hesitant at first to go to a place like this as the metal/rock scene is not my scene. I am glad I did go though as it had a great atmosphere and such great food. The municipal waste poutine and the Montreal smoked meat poutine are delicious and the portions are crazy big for the price, a wonderful value. The server/barkeep was also very friendly which makes it all that more fun when your trying somthing outside your comfort zone. Love that their are great unique businesses in Ottawa like this. A definite must if your in byward market.

Such a fun and unique restaurant! They have so many yummy poutine options, portions are very generous and priced well. The theme is a bit niche, heavy metal, but the staff and atmosphere are welcoming to everyone. The Metropolis and Municipal Waste poutine were delicious!

Honestly, it is the least friendly bar in downtown Ottawa do not recommend bartenders are rude and dismissive plenty of nicer bars downtown the only upside was the decor but not worth it

I thought it was a medieval restaurant but it was more for metal rock band lovers. Poutine was good and service is average since they get busy after dinner service.

I always get the food on ubereats and its delicious and the prices are incredible in this economy! A full chicken wrap is $9 and a burger with staffed patty is $13. The order always comes quickly too. Ive always had good service in the restaurant too and its awesome to have something so fun, unique, and different. Always enjoyed the music and felt super safe as a young woman in a metal bar, good crowds

The burger isnt good lastt.so I thought I would just order some fries I called to make sure telling guy, im going to order extra pesto mayo sauce last time I didnt get any he said you can order as much as you like then on purpose didnt didnt even add no pesto mayo at all

Great, tiny, metal bar. Food surprisingly good, service is great. It is, well, a metal bar. Pretty loud, pretty thrashy, ambient is red lights. Interesting decor, small selection of merch if that is your thing. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible. Door up a step and on angle.

Heavy metal fans are gonna have a blast here. Full on dark side atmosphere. Menu is unique, something you need to experience yourself. Food is good, prices are at par.

terrible portions. greedy owners Ordered a poutine from their ghost kitchen ( The chip wagon) Paid $17 for a steak poutine that was almost as small as the side of ketchup they gave me for my hot dogs. NO JOKE.. literally the size of 4 small ramekins.. I couldnt believe it. What a ridiculous size for the price. Very disappointed OH and steak is literally half a beef burger patty... wow.

The most disgusting burger Ive eaten in my life. Their hotdogs are also plain. No sauerkraut, ketchup, mustard or onion. Just plain bread and sausage. Is the 4.7 rating fake?

Nice acid rock / heavy metal themed atmosphere and music. Cool menu with large servings of great food at a decent price. The server was prompt, polite and attentive without being overbearing. The food was excellent. It was our 36th anniversary meal and we were looking forward to trying this out, very glad we did.

Cool local space that is open late on weeknight - great for a midnight snack. We stopped in for some drink and grilled cheeses before heading home and it was near. Well decorated/themed with a large menu selection. Vegetarian options arent well marked but there are quite a few of them. Our food came quick and the drinks were good. If you wanted to park you would likely have to do it around the street since its in the market.

One of my favourite restaurants in Ottawa! If youre a lover of all things metal, its a must! The food is incredible, staff is wonderful and friendly, and the atmosphere ties everything together! Always a go-to when Im in the downtown core!

Honestly with as high a score on Uber and even on Google LATE NIGHT EAT IN FOODIES NOT RECOMMENDED for delivery. Definitely not the same experience being described when you eat in, and I live 1.6 kms away it was really disappointing and I wont do it again. 3 strikes your out and this place made it to 4 strikes. 1. WORST fries ever, 2. forgot the dip, 3. forgot the drinks and 4. the hot dog buns were soggy so I cant say this is a place you want to have delivery from if your a late night foodie.

I went here last night, after watching a show at Mavericks. This place is AWESOME. The place is not rock themed, its metal. Black, Death etc metal, and they play a good selection of it over the speakers at all times (or at least when i was there). The place is decorated pretty much satanically from floor to ceiling, and the dishes are all named after metal bands. But dont let that scare you, even the most devout Christian would do well to try the food here. I had a wrap (pulled pork with vegetables etc, called the Eluveitie), and it was probably the best tasting restaurant food thing Ive had in a lonnnnng time. And it was only 10$! Would not be surprised if the chef sold his soul to cook like that. Service was pleasant, and they had a good selection of craft beer. I guess the only thing to be aware of is that since its a pretty small operation and the food quality is so good, there can be quite the wait between ordering your food and getting it if theres a lot of people around. Its not fast food in any sense, its closer to fine dining... But more metal haha. Great place though, hope to make it back one day!

Good spot for burgers. Prices are higher now than a previous picture has, but cant blame them in this economy. Still cheaper than most dine in places in downtown Ottawa. Interesting atmosphere though some may not enjoy the heavy metal always playing. Worth checking out.

Cool vibe, good music. Had a good beer, but the cocktail I got after was awful. The Witch Hunt tastes how I imagine Gwyneth Paltrow smells, it was like drinking perfume and homeopathy. Excuseable if not for it being 16 dollars.

This place is a must-visit for all foodies and heavy metal fans! The burgers are simply out of this world, and the poutine is hands down the best Ive ever had. The music is loud and heavy, just the way it should be in a metal bar. The prices are very affordable, and the portions are generous. I highly recommend trying their drinks as well, they are definitely worth it. The service is top-notch, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. I cant recommend this place enough, it truly is a gem in Ottawas food scene.

Great place for metal fans to enjoy good food. The satanic theme inside is also a nice change of view. I had their Phenex burger, was nice. I also had their honey garlic wings which came with fries. Over all a good place with good food. The only thing that comes to mind that was a let down was their Satanik hot sauce, which is their spiciest sauce but it barely packed a punch in my opinion. Other than that everything was very good, I recommend giving The Koven a visit.

This place is great. The staff is friendly, and the burgers are un real. Might be my favorite burgers in town. My son and I love to go here.

Best rock and metal bar in Ottawa

Im honestly not sure how this place has so many good reviews. Ordered a burger and hot dog. Hot dog I could have microwaved and made better. Skip it if you are thinking of ordering. Ordered on uber eats and they charged me almost $4 to add pickles lol. These guys are crazy. The burger was extremely dry. Bacon overcooked and hard as a rock. Extremely disappointed. Dont let the reviews fool you, there are way better burgers joints out there. Would not recommend this place to my worst enemies. Update - Gave this place another shot. Burgers were much better this time. Probably better dine in then delivery also depending on how long delivery is but at least Ill be fair about it. From 1 star to 4 stars.

After a really bad day, we decided to buy last minute tickets to an Ottawa Jazz Festival show at the NAC. That was cool but afterward we needed something bold and my partner, being a thrash metal maniac, suggested Koven. I was actually kind of hesitant, since I am not the metal head. But there is so much to look at, and the poutine, something like Buffalo chicken. What a cool late night spot.

Disgusting, appalling, burnt and filthy fries. Dont waste a penny on this vile place, their food is nauseating.

Went there for the first time on Canada day. Never been in a metal bar before, was amazing to find. The atmosphere is perfect, service was amazing, food was phenomenal. Im still dreaming of the Kamelot poutine. Will be back for sure.

Cool place

Ordered on uber recently cause it seemed pretty decent but I didnt put my expectations high, glad I didnt. Got the Toxicity - its supposed to be a hot dog with ketchup, onions and mustard, in the picture it looked great and stuffed, in reality there was pretty much no mustard, and if there was you couldnt taste it cause of all the ketchup and there were just a few teeny tiny pieces of onions. Pretty disappointing especially for its name but since it was on a BOGO I shouldnt be surprised. My partner ordered the dimmu and he enjoyed it, he said the spice level on it was enjoyable and not overly spicy or under. I had gotten the so called behemoth, it was also good, a bit lacking for cheese in some bites but thats life, I still enjoyed the burger either way and it was definitely filling. Fries are ok, nothing special but not great either. Would not suggest paying the extra dollar for their parmesan fries as it looked like they barely sprinkled some on top and then just called it a day, it was pretty much just regular fries that we paid an extra dollar for that we also didnt get a dip with even though its supposed to come with a dip, my partner was looking forward to trying it. Id try it again, maybe in person might be better, we still enjoyed our burgers, they were the stars of the dish so it wasnt all bad, better than a few other places weve tried but not amazing. Id probably just not get fries again though

I came here for drinks and a bit of finger food--they had a great menu, really fun drinks and names for everything, and a very cool atmosphere. The bartender/server was really attentive on a thursday night, and Ill definitely be coming back!

Cool metal bar with good pub grub

I came here twice about few years ago and I really liked the food on both visits. There s metal music which i personally enjoyed.. so beware if your not a metal fan lol! I hope my third visit will be as good. I remembered the outdoor seating attracted many mosquitos in the summer time and it felt there was not enough light when it would got dark. I hope they improved outdoor seating by now.

Food was amazing and you d have a hard time beating the price. Service was outstanding and friendly. The only thing I d say is I think the music was a tad too loud. Im good with the metal atmosphere but it was just really difficult to have a conversation at the table without nearly yelling at each other.

The place looks interesting inside, if you like the heavy metal themes, and the food is not bad either. The good: - I had the Behemoth burger (meat patty and pulled pork) and it was good. It is a big burger and it is tasty. - The music is not loud. It is nice if you dont care about the type of music they play. - The food prices are very reasonable. The bad: - French fries were nothing special. Just get the regular ones or the poutine. - The menu font is so small, it is impossible to read. I had to take pictures of it and the zoom-in to read what it says. - there is no light in the corridor that leads to the washrooms. It is very dark. Parking: Just down the same street there is a parking garage with reasonable prices.

Very good place for eat and listen good music

Been wanting to visit for quite some time and happy I finally did. The food was really tasty and the atmosphere was great! A nice change with all the heavy metal from the more typical restaurant vibes. Also appreciate the fact they are open fairly late compared to other eateries. We got a wrap and the 6.6.6 platter. I hope I ll be back again soon to enjoy more of the awesome food. All the names on the menu are a lot of fun.

Excellent place to go

A metal themed restaurant that plays a variety of metal music? Sign me up! The food and drink selection is great, and the food itself is absolutely awesome. Drinks are very reasonably priced especially given that its located in the Market. Whenever my friends and I find ourselves in the market at night and want to grab a bite, we often find ourselves at The Koven cause its just a great vibe all around.

This is by far the worst restaurant in Ottawa. Came with my friends at 1am and all of our dishes were burnt and nasty. Nothing was good even being high and drunk. Tasted like hamburger helper we were so disappointed i would never come back here it was pretty disgusting.

I made an account just to come and thank you for how AMAZING our supper was! My husband and I ordered for the 1st time tonight on Uber eats. We got a Klassic poutine rock size, Kamelot Poutine punk size and a dimmu burger. OMG!!! We found our new fav restaurant!!! The burger seems to be homemade, no frozen patty! and it was SO good. The hot peppers inside the meat was such a nice touch. The punk size poutine was HEAVY, it is decent size / filling enough for people who don t have a giant appetite. The rock size is quite large compared to punk size, it comes with a lot of poutine! I cannot imagine what the biggest size (heavy metal) is like! We couldn t stop raving about our food while eating, 10000% recommend!!!! You won t regret it !

Music, atmosphere, decor, food, drinks everything about this place is A1 in my books definitely go there if youre a metalhead IT IS THE SPOT and if youre not go there for the great food, drinks, cozy seating and atmostphere youre guaranteed to have a good time

I would put 6 out of 5 stars if possible. The metal culture concept is on point, the food is Great! And everything is reasonably priced. Will go back and recommend. A must try for every burger lover, metal enthusiasts.

Good food with interesting names that fit the metal bar theme. A little cozy but a fun atmosphere with a good selection of drinks.

AVOID GRAVY AT ALL COSTS. I ordered two burgers (agonist and Baphomet) along with a small Mexican themed poutine. I loved the agonist burger - 5/5. The Baphomet was tasty, but if there was any goat cheese on it (as the menu states), it was completely unnoticeable. If my order had stopped here I would have given these guys 5 stars (despite the lack of goat cheese) because it was still quite tasty. The people also seemed SUPER nice, indulging my (admittedly peculiar) special order notes 5/5 for service. But unfortunately, the poutine I got was so awful that it brought the score all the way down to a 3. The fries were great and there was a good amount of stuff on the poutine, but the entire thing was rendered inedible by the gravy. My best guess is that someone can put triple the amount of gravy powder into the batch (maybe I just got a fluke batch?) I tried desperately to find something edible in the poutine but to no avail: it was so powdery that even the parts that looked like there was hardly any gravy on it at all were still contaminated by that awful taste. It was so bad that I m willing to believe my experience was a fluke, but it was bad enough that I wouldn t be willing to spend the money to find out. From what I can tell, just avoid the gravy and you will have some deeply satisfying food.

Somewhat of a rude waiter, always on his phone... absolutely destroyed seats, no beers on tap... They dont even have beer/pint glasses for their tallcans... Music audio is subpar and almost sounds like it just comes out of TV speakers... Not impressed :( Foods fine. Good poutine. Otherwise, meh..

Ive been interested in checking this place out for a while, mostly because of the overall theme, but I was not prepared for how good the food was gonna be. Between my dining partner and I, we tried the Arch Enemy Wrap, the Municipal Waste poutine, the Baphomet burger, the spicy maple Dragon Wings, and some Parm fries. Not a single complaint. All of it was absolutely delicious. Also, the server/bartender who served us was wonderful and was quick to replace my fork when I accidentally flung it onto the floor. Great service and amazing food, cant wait to go back and try a cocktail! Update 04/06/22: Dragged some friends back to get take out. Tried a variety of things (grilled cheese, poutine, wrap & burgers) - all still delicious, of course.

Very nice metal bar in Ottawa. We were attracted to it by its name and turned out to be a great spot. Its very small and theres no live music, though, in case you were wondering. Great selection of local beers and the food was delicious!

Staff behind the counter are nice people; really take care of their customers. They make top quality Long Islands, appear frequently without being pushy, and serve great food. Also a good place to chill to Metal music. Vegetarian options: They have a new vegetarian wrap. Might be vegan, but I didnt get a good look at the ingredients. Dietary restrictions: Yeah... not the place for you; they have vegetarian, but its a very, very carbo-protein heavy restaurant. Parking: None nearby outside the market from what Ive seen, but you might get lucky. Kid-friendliness: Not really applicable here, but I suppose you could always take the kids outside if you really wanted to bring them. Music is definitely too loud for them to be inside, though, and the food is fairly big-portioned. Wheelchair accessibility: Sadly not: the doors are a little tight for a wheelchair, and theres a step to even get inside, but there may be a way to the patio from outside, Im just not certain.

Went here on Canada day and was served by Matt who did a phenomenal job with his service even though he was the only server. The food was delicious and in large portions and we hope to be returning in the future. Thank you Matt!

Some of the best food Ive ever tasted! Anytime I go to ottawa I almost always visit this place to eat. The Burgers are amazing and the Poutine are are some if not the best Poutine Ive had! And I love my poutine. The Music is as u expect, heavy metal and everytime Ive gone had different songs that all sounded great. I personally am usually the driver but when Im not I order some of the alcohol. For the price and how much u get I definitely recommend it. Tastes really good every time! Usually I find some minor flaws or have some bad service in restaurants but this is the 1st place I have been that really doesnt miss their mark, food is amazing everytime and the service is impeccable!

A little disappointing for my first time.... ordered a Klassik poutine (punk size) delivery on Uber Eats and only got fries. No gravy, no curds. Not to mention old fries. Maybe my fault for ordering so late. I was really craving a good poutine. Jalapeños poppers are great though but if not mistaken, exact same ones as Pizza Pizza.

Great burgers, really recommend. We ordered on restozone and our driver accidentally forgot one of our burgers and they were nice enough to drive it out to us. We will definitely be ordering again and the burgers were delicious

Super kind..awesome music and the price is good...but the food is under quality unfortunately....the restaurant itself is small and the patio is very squished....I felt like the people behind me were eating at my table almost...there are clearly daily regulars and not very inviting for new customers....great if your coming back from a concert or a quick bite and drink before a concert..but other than that unfortunately I wont be returning

Abismal service when I was the only person there the whole evening. The ketchup had beer in it, not sure if was intentional or not but it was a rather interesting taste. Food quality was quite lacking and everything was served on paper plates which was quite insulting and my sandwich bread wasnt even toasted. I go out of my way and pay for food and service at a restaurant just to be served to be served paper plates with no cutlery. Underwhelming isnt a strong enough word nor does it even begin to describe the experience. I expected more from a place thats so highly reviewed.

Always like coming to the Koven. Mehdis a good guy, great food, and I get to discover new bands all the time.

I almost dont want to speak about this place lest it get overrun lol! Cause its amazing! If youre looking for rear food and som elf the best beers around.... Not to mention wonderful metal music! Then go no further, best around, hands down.

Meh dingy I could not distinguish decor from dirt. The food I ordered was meh. Cool in theory. Must go if you are a teenager or still stuck in your metal phase. Maybe its because of covid. But I dont forsee myself going back.

Always love coming here. Usually some great metal playing (not as heavy as it used to be) a unique metal-themed menu (the poutine is to die for) and always friendly attentive service.

Decent grub, small but good selection of beers and excellent ambiance if you like metal music. Worth a try!

Me and fiancée got the 666 meal as take out and paired it with a joint. 10/10

Atmosphere was crowded, felt like the back of a music venue between bands! The food was hit and miss however. My table ordered a few poutines, (a Korn and a Cannibal Corpse) The high tier fries that this resturant offers were drowned out by honestly, way too much on the poutine. The korn poutine tasted like soggy tomato juice before it reached the table.

Awesome staff. Large tasty menu. Everyone has been here once, so make sure you experience it if youre visiting!

Super fun metal themed bar. One of the best smoked meat sandwiches ever. Great cocktails/craft beer selection. Awesome music too and nearly everything on the menu is named after Metal bands.

Good food, good vibes

SUCH a cool place. When I went here, I felt like I should have worn more black leather. The menu is extensive for reg diner type options (sandwiches, burgers, poutine, subs, etc) and the amounts are absolutely awesome bang for your buck. Only thing I noticed is most of the alcohol is higher end price compared to most places, but also they looked so cool and delicious. Had an awesome time with my friends, vibed to the hard rock music and the Satanic decor

Cajun Fries with curry mayo were to die for, burger was delicious and moist and not overcooked. will definitely return if Im ever in Ottawa again!

The best vibes and amazing food

My friend showed me this little gem of a restaurant, and Ive gone 3 times since. Fair prices, HUGE portions and funny menu. Beer selection is respectable, cocktail menu is very thematic. Definitely worth checking out even if you dont like metal all that much. Waiter/bartender would make the cut were I to assemble an Avengers of customer service team. Had the : A.Y.D.Y(ARE YOU DEAD YET) it was absolutely worth it.

Visiting Ottawa from Chicago to see my girlfriend for our anniversary. She took me here to celebrate and I absolutely loved it entirely! The atmosphere, the staff, the music, food, and drinks are all just phenomenal! Most highly recommend this place and cant wait to visit Ottawa again to come back and try more! Chaotic Cthulhu is a beast of a burger!!!
