318 Bank St, Ottawa, ON K2P 1X7, Canada
Its a pub. It has pub grub. It has Pub style. It has Pub people. Server was decent, good recommendations for food and visiting sites to see.
the royal oak is a great trivia spot - food is mid, prices are okay. come here if you want to definitely get a spot and some food as their space is big and hours are good, but it's not the most spectacular place. service is amazing!
Emmmmm very expensive for what you get
Hash browns, or is this what they serve for a side order of fries?, better go elsewhere for a decent cut of fries as this place only seems to serve half cut fries.
This was my first time at this pub. There was only one person attending to all the customers, taking orders, bringing food, serving drinks, etc.. The food was good and reasonably sized. The pub itself is an older establishment that has been locked in time.
I am a regular patron at this pub, and I came here with a friend today (Wednesday September 20 in the afternoon) and I had a very disappointing experience. I am in my late 20s and my friend is in her 30s. The waitress came over and asked for our drinks orders, which we gave. Then she asked for our IDs. My friend left her wallet in the car, as I was going to pay for our drinks, therefore she didn’t have her ID on her. She said it’s not a worry, and that she would just have water and food. I then provided my ID. Without even looking at my ID, the waitress said unless we both provide ID neither of us will be served, and that it was company policy. I know for a fact this not true, as I’ve worked in the service industry, especially pubs, for the last decade. This is not a rule that is outlined in smart serve certification, and you can in fact serve all patrons who provide ID. We are both women of colour and have previously had discriminatory experiences at restaurants; regardless of whether this was the intent of the server, this felt very targeted. This has been one of my go to pubs for after work drinks, and I’m very disappointed.
waited one hour for appetite which is a sweet potato fries and another hour for main dishes which is a small boiled salmon with few vegitable. highly not recommand to try this Atlantic salmon: the most expensive one, the least taste. lack of service too.
Charming place with great atmosphere and super friendly staff! The food was amazing as well as the drinks! Glad we found this place before we went back home to Quebec! Recommended for sure!
Nice place and good service
Bartender was a jolly fellow and pretty on point
This place is nostalgic for me...been coming here since 1982.I like to drop by and have a beer once in awhile.
My favorite spot of ll time in Ottawa!!!
Its vibes I guess
Kid-friendliness: Offer kids menu Food
Stopped by just for drinks. Nice atmosphere, classic pub feel. Sat too close to the entrance on a cold day and felt a chill breeze every time someone walked in.
Good ambiance, service, and fair price.
Didnt have any food, just drinks. It has a nice atmosphere somewhat like a British pub. It has tables by the front windows which open up quite a bit.
The food was alright. The place was kind of dead but that could be because its winter and I went there on a Sunday. The server was very nice and friendly though. Food
Bartender/host was very rude, not going back
Table for 10. 7 adults drinking beer, 3 drinking pop. Food was ordered. We were there for close to 3 hours. Drinks were empty for close to 30 mins at one point. We left because of the lack of service. The place might of only had 10 other people in the entire restaurant.
Great atmosphere and large place to hangout with friends!
Excellent
The food is delicious! Our hostess Heather is delightful! A great place to eat and relax!
The dirty Oak, the original. Always a good time. Food is good as well as the regulars. Definitely worth a visit.
Great atmosphere. Tuesday trivia night is a must-go.
I recently visited the Royal Oak Pub on Bank at Maclaren in Ottawa, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. From the moment I walked in, it was evident that the service would be subpar. Our servers attitude was rude, and to make matters worse, his breath reeked of alcohol and cigarettes. The quality of the beverages was also a letdown. The Coca-Cola served was completely flat, which was quite disappointing. Not only that, but the prices for the drinks were exorbitant, considering the underwhelming taste and lack of carbonation. Moreover, I found the servers judgmental behavior to be highly off-putting. Its disheartening when youre trying to enjoy a meal, only to feel scrutinized and judged by the very person who should be providing a welcoming atmosphere. This definitely contributed to an overall unpleasant experience. In light of these issues, I cannot recommend the Royal Oak Pub on Bank. The combination of poor service, flat and overpriced beverages, and the servers judgmental demeanor make for a disappointing visit. I hope the management takes note of these concerns and takes steps to improve the quality of service and overall experience for future patrons. Ottawa has many wonderful dining options, and I encourage potential visitors to explore other establishments that prioritize customer satisfaction and provide a more enjoyable experience.
Solid 3.8
Last night, my girlfriend and I were passing by and this bar was absolutely empty with literally zero costumer so we decided to go inside to have a beer at peace before heading home. We said hi and sat at the bar and as we were checking out the beers on tap, that toxicated guy (with a big belly and grey beard) behind the bar suddenly said yeah I m not serving you in a repulsive way with a condescending look on his face. I asked him why what happened as both my gf and I were so confused and even stopped to think if I ve been there before so I asked the guy when was I there and he started mumbling then said 2-3 weeks ago and you said your money is no good here, I know you, I m not serving you and some more stuff that made as little sense. I made sure to ask him a couple more times if he was sure since I know I haven t been there. I have never been more confused in my life! We just said no way we would spend anything in here anyways as we were walking out and his finale was you said that the last time (Added even more confusion!) SMH! No wonder there was absolutely zero customer while an identical bar across the street was fully packed. But also makes me wonder if it was racially motivated which is the only thing comes to my mind. What a bad look for the establishment! SMH
Really like the Oak. My kind of place to go to. The bartender was awesome and the music was perfect. The food... I ordered the $23 lasagna. If you like Chef Boyardee, you lovell this. Was hoping for better quality and a better serving but this is what I got. Im starving and I was craving pasta tonight so I ate it all. I love Chef Boyardee so it was comfort food for me. Im sure when I become hungry again in an hour, paying $23 for something that I know was worth $5 will really annoy me. Oh well, live and learn.
Just a beer and watch the game Go Blue
Old time Irish Pub with standard pub fare on offer. Food is tasty and plentiful. The service was awesome and extremely friendly! The only negative, if it is one, is the decor is in need of a refurbishment project. That said, many of yall love that old pub look so, what do I know... Overall, fun place to go for a pint and a burger! *Gluten-free options available

Enjoyable pub atmosphere. Bangers and mash was bangin. Lots of great breweries in Ottawa but only macro beer on tap.
It is a typical Pub. Good atmosphere in the nights. Good selection of beer. Not going there for the rustic ambience. Good food but I would stick to pub like food. Dont order the salmon, I think the chef was almost insulted to make it in a traditional pub. Overall good atmosphere, good place to catch the game and have a pint or a social hangout.
Solid staff at this location and trivia night is a lot of fun! Specials everyday and a lot of regulars whom are friendly as well. Solid pub I ll continue to frequent!
One of my old hangouts when I lived in the city, still is a great place. Food is good, lots of different local beers on tap. Havent been in 6 years and just was in today, still a super solid place.
Great Pub. Ottawa Institution. My friend Jeff taught me to chug pints here in the early 2000s. I could down a full imperial in less than 3 seconds in those days. It was also one of the pubs that would serve my high school friends and I in the late 90s. Havent touched the stuff in 16 years or so. Man, we solved all the worlds problems several times over sitting in that place. Great Memories!
Ive always enjoyed The Royal Oak on Bank Their drink and food selection is standard pub fare in the best way.
Great service, but not a good value for money, even with inflation etc.
The restaurant in the center ... practically on bank street just 7 minutes from the parliament on foot ... The owner is a very welcoming and precise person ... We were a group of 15 people and he was keen to say that the chef couldnt satisfy everyone at the same time ..The food was very good... The restaurant is old...
Try the Stanley park windstorm beer. Great summer beer to accompany their great fish and chips platter.
Very good food however the lack of employees means that the service is very very slow.
Good, good atmosphere Good.
They have friendly staff, nice vibe, and a very good shepherds pie.
LOVE the Dirty Oak, been going for a very long time.
Good people, good conversation, great atmosphere. One dish I had was forgettable so thats my only complaint. Nice low key pub.
Ordered take out. Fries were very undercooked and the rest of the meal was mediocre.
Good stop for a beer on the way.
Great place to go for a few beers after work! Excellent service. Service : 5/5
I came to this restaurant highly recommended however I was very disappointed. I ordered a chicken sandwich with a Caesar salad and they gave me fries instead. My sandwich and fries were cold so I asked for takeout to leave and re heat at home. Made me pretty upset
Great customer service, very friendly. Great drinks and food
This was my first time ordering takeout from the Royal Oak. I ordered the fish n chips and a side of poutine. Problem #1 - my Uber driver sat outside and waited to pick up the order for almost 20 minutes. When the order arrived, it was packaged well. The fish was a good sized portion and it was tasty, albeit a little oily (there was a small puddle of oil in the takeout box). The poutine was some of the worst I ve ever had. The fries were too big and undercooked for poutine, the portion was small and the gravy was thin, watery and flavourless. It had the consistency of a jus you would pour over roast beef - definitely not a poutine gravy.
The dirty oak. The one and only original. It is what it is.
Great atmosphere and our server Adam was very attentive and friendly, especially since he was working alone as bartender and server for a good amount of people.
Ive been going here for years and always had an enjoyable experience.
Nothing special, the staff was friendly and fast and the French onion soup was fine. The only thing I can think of to complain about was for some reason I couldnt get the internet to work on my phone. So you can see if thats all I have to complain about, the place was fine. Will say it was one of my shorter visits to a pub.
The steak pies was great and the burger was awesome. Paired with a couple of Guinness, everything was perfect.
Great service, bad food
Its the dirty, whats not to love.
Great place to meet good people!!!
Irish pub style restaurant. The menu is varied and well priced. The quality of the meals is correct. The service is fast at first, but then the service becomes bad. The staff is smiling, but there are not enough staff. The waitress never brought ketchup after we asked for it. We had to get up at the end of the meal and go see the waitress to pay, because she had forgotten us. The mens toilets have a bad smell. Next time Im in Ottawa, Im going to go to a different Irish pub than this one.
Food was tasty but it made me sick :(
I enjoyed overall,the service,friendly environment i like my stay
Great place to kick back and have a couple brews
Great spot to hang with friends. Great for predrinks. Just found out the dont sell Kieths on tap any longer. Wish they did.
On a cold afternoon a oerfect place
Nice neighborhood pub
Good food
Its usually busy and full of lushes at the bar
It feels like home
Great pub, hard wood everything! It looks great, great service, and good food.
Loved it
Great service and food! We had the Lobster Roll and Steak & Mushroom Pie! Our waiter Heather was really nice, friendly and helpful! We would definitely come back!!
The waitress, she was so rude, just because of few pieces of salted peanuts I was having them with drink, she asked me to stop eating them. The guy I guess his name Mark or Michael he is so kind , but this waitress she is really rude. Any way it was the second time and last time I go there.
Great English themed pub. Great food, ales and atmosphere. Good prices.
Not the best. A little too expensive. Expected better beer selection.
Cozy and not overly noisy
I always enjoy visiting any of the Royal oak locations, and this one is quite central to Ottawa. They have a nice menu, friendly staff, and large tables that can accommodate bigger groups. My go to is usually the fish and chips, as well as any locally crafted beer.
Just stopped in for a couple of with a friend.
Lindsy did a great job attending to us. Satisfied all our needs and quite patient with any out burst of ours. Cheers!
Nice place and service
Good deals on different days
Been a few times in February and the staff are always friendly, accommodating, and helped us move tables for our large group. Would definitely recommend this location as long as their staff stay awesome like this!
Great place to meet up with friends, have dinner drinks and sing karaoke on Sunday nights.
The food is great, but the service getting the food is a little slow. Even if you get there at a slow time during the day itll still take almost over 30 minutes to get your food. Other than that the staff are great and friendly.
Classic joint, so warm and friendly; attentive and kind service. Had a good time. Great place to hang with friends for the evening.
Great pub. Only had one wheat beer. Otherwise would be 5 stars.
It was our second time at that location. Service was great as well as the food.
Enjoy the lunch and the efficient service
Fast and friendly
Takes a while to get served and to pay the bill
We go for a regular event on e a week the servers stay the same so they get to know you. Aside from that its just a typical bar
Always great staff and best chicken wings around!
Pricey for what you get
One of the first Royal Oak in Ottawa. We call it lovingly the Dirty Oak. Its a nice no frills place. Wide selection of beers and food.
The original Oak. Enjoyed many a pint over the years.
Great server, lovely spot for a meet-up with friends. Lots of imported beers/ales on tap and a typical pub menu.
The perfect place to relax with a singers, spouses and our director, after the Music & Beyond closing gala in honour of Brian Law.
Nice pub, great nacho, good beer, great staff and nice customers.
Good service but in desperate need of a renovation... The owning outside is covered in bird poo
Yo the place is great
Food ok. Service ok. Music bad.
Amazing place but needs better bartender during the day. Coming from a girls point of view, it should be a girl too. :)
OMG! Over an hour to get food on the table!
Not much to say....Ill leave it at that.
Great selection of beer good food and great location but poor service
Decent food, standard across all Oaks. Recommend the steak pie. Bank/Maclaren location was incredibly warm inside. Staff was friendly
Good place, very good food (delicious lobster rolls)
Good food
Ate here twice in the same day by coincidence. Great both times. Not a long wait for ordering or your food to come. Friendly, on the ball staff is always a plus.
Food is always good. Service is always slow due to lack of staff.
Nice spot. Friendly service. Bangers and mash is a great dish there.
Dirty and poorly run
Had 2 different double drinks rye ginger and gin tonic and they both tasted really off almost not drinkable
Great food fast service
Its an Oak. Good beer and over-priced, mediocre food.
Great for snack and beer !
Good Food , Good Vibes And Good People
Great service and food
Great food great service
Its a home away from home. Welcoming staff, good food, friendly patrons. If youre looking for a Cheers type bar, look no further.
Food seemed from freezer to oven, tv dinner style. Harried service. Overpriced for quality. Suspect clientele, not a place to bring your mother for dinner on a Friday nite.
