Wilfrid's is an award-winning restaurant in Ottawa offering a wide selection of culinary creations. Our Executive Chef and his team are famous for their superb selection of regional Canadian cuisine.
Wilfrid restaurant is a prime example of style over substance. The food, while tasty, was overshadowed by its outrageously small portions and absurdly high prices. At $330, you're paying for 'food art' rather than a satisfying meal. The experience felt pretentious, more about presentation than value. For that price, I could have enjoyed a far superior and more filling meal elsewhere, like Baton Rouge. Wilfrid simply doesn't justify its cost.
Here as part of a tour group. Had a limited menu choice. The food was excellent. The service was average and I would not say there was much atmosphere or view. Out on the terrace they use a misting spray. It kept making the automatic door open and som spray coming inside.
The staff were always helpful. The food was good and tasty. Enjoyed watching the scenery on Canada Day. A good place to meet family and friends.
Great! I normally don’t eat out at super high end restaurants but this was quite a good experience. Really great atmosphere and because it is connected to the hotel, open until late. It was a little empty when we went for dinner so very quiet. I am sure during meal time is is much more lively. The food was phenomenal however, portions are quite small. I believe that is to be expected at luxurious restaurants like this but still, slightly disappointing. The staff was super sweet but nothing special. If you have a fancy occasion and want to dress up, try some new food, then I’d recommend. For day to day or for a night out? Maybe not
May 2023 Six of us went here for Sunday brunch to celebrate my daughter's university graduation. Not cheap, but well worth it for a special occasion. The food was delicious with many specialty items, and a wonderful atmosphere. Luxurious!
Ellen’s simply WONDERFUL!!! She graciously helped me and my daughter to pour bowls of scrumptious potato leek soup. Although the place was a bit crowded for Thanksgiving buffet brunch, it’s definitely worth it. Another server named Frederic was fabulous as well! In general, the food and staff here are one of the best in town. We will be back with no doubts!
Amazing experience! In a historical hotel enjoy a brunch on weekend . Quite place and professional service . Unbeatable food quality. It don’t have a lot of choices but it good cooking and different option. Seafood platter is amazing but I don’t understand they are not refill it after all the scallops gone. Good views in terraces, Staffs are polite and smile on face. 50$ each person Wine are not expensive but not many choices .
We had a small gathering on Boxing Day. The 10 of us were split into two tables of 4 and 6 side by side. Very comfortable and roomy. Our tables were on the upper level and far away from other tables. We were all having the Discovery Menu. The parents had wine pairing, and the grownup children ordered cocktails. Every course was excellent. We were very impressed with the Turkey! It was the best Turkey I have ever had! Very very tender and flavourful. The wine pairing was excellent too. The service was impeccable. They didn’t have the buffet because of the pandemic. However this Set Menu was perfect for gathering. I highly recommend it!
The food was amazing, and the service was also incredible. My only complaint is the cleanliness of the washrooms
The weekend buffet was overpriced and rather underwhelming. Poor presentation of food and limited offerings. Most of the hot dishes were warm. The desserts were lovely. Seafood was disappointing. It was very expensive for what was offered.
Good service. Mediocre food for A LOT of $$.
Completely disappointed. Very weak menu ,waited an hour to get our food . Low quality steaks and a truly repulsive caesar salad. The place needs to be updated in terms of decor and the prices need to be urgently revised because if this is the pinnacle of what you can get in Ottawa then god help us !
We went there twice for dinner and lunch the next day. In both cases, the service was difficult. The place and the decor are majestic. The food itself is good but nothing more. Supper: Over an hour for starter service, which was cold starters and soups. Another hour of waiting to receive the main meals and we gave up on the possibility of receiving dessert. My partner and I each had a cocktail, they were very good, the only downside was that mine was served with a fruit bibitte . The squash soup was delicious, even more so if it hadnt had a crust on it from waiting too long on the serving pass. For the main course, the seafood stew was delicious and my steak and fries were good. Lunch: It s a buffet with several choices. The made-to-order omelette was very good. Some dishes in the hot buffet lacked freshness and could have been hotter. In terms of the cold buffet and pastries, everything was very good. The berry smoothie was a great success. In conclusion, I believe that the restaurant lacks either employees or organization, because it has everything to succeed. Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options on the menu and for lunch.
Shoutout to Laurent fr he was very helpful and accommodating. Very nice atmosphere!
Among the worst service experiences I have ever had at a Fairmont restaurant. Plates were not cleared promptly. Sat for about 10 minutes before being asked if I wanted coffee. Coffee was never refreshed without having to prompt the server. Then waited over 15 minutes to get another servers attention to get the bill. $40 breakfast with fast food level service. Be better Fairmont! Would not dine here again if not included in the room rate. Good thing I wasnt in a hurry to be somewhere! On a positive note, food was good. Loved the omelette bar and the crepes.
Alexi And Aleesha best bartenders in the world Great hosts and amazing atmosphere Food
Food was ok, but we waited for more than an hour for it. Didn t order anything complicated and have been there at regular time (8pm on a Friday). About 2/3 of tables were empty, so I don t wanna know how long we would have waited if the restaurant was full.
I was visiting Ottawa and wanted to treat myself to the brunch buffet on Sept. 15/24. For $70/person I had pretty high expectations. My reservation was at noon, 30 mins after the brunch service began, but I arrived early and they sat me at 11:45. Everything I picked from the hot buffet counter was cold. Eggs, sausage, crepes, salmon puttanesca, roasted potatoes, mushroom ravioli, and roasted carrots (these were also very dry). When I returned to my table I asked for decaf coffee. My server came and poured me half a cup of coffee, which luke warm at best. I thought maybe her carafe was empty and she d return, she did not. About 20 mins later she came to refill my cup, but only 3/4 full this time, and the coffee was luke warm, again. She came a third time, removed my old cup, and gave me a new one (which had dried food stuck on the rim) and filled it right up with coffee, and it was hot! (finally). Unfortunately, this was the last time my server came to check on me or fill my coffee cup. I really expected better service, and perhaps better coffee (like a latte) other than just drip coffee, especially for the price of the meal. I was not offered a menu or the option to order a breakfast cocktail, or other types of coffee, which is usually standard for a fancy brunch buffet. When I was ready for pastries, I took the pain au chocolat, cannoli, and cream puff. I expected the pastries to be made fresh, especially for the price of the meal. The pain au chocolat wasn t buttery or flaky. It was hard and tasted stale. The cannoli shell and creme puff were soggy. These were not fresh and I was very disappointed in the quality of the food. I don t feel that it was worth what I paid, and left disappointed. The chateau hotels in Canada have a quality standard to meet and unfortunately Wilfred s missed the mark, big time.
For an award winning restaurant the food was worse than your local pub. If I didn t know any better the steak was microwaved. We had to return it as it was well done. We ask for medium rare. And the steak that came the second time was still more on the done side and it was extremely dry we did not finish it. The tomato salad was on the brink of rotting it was so mushy. The most decent thing was the soup that was bland . We had to ask for ketchep 3 times . We order the spicey margaritas and it was not worth the price. I would never come back.
Always great food, deserts are awesome, especially the vegan option. Service was OK, not great.
The restaurant was good but you do pay a lot more than what youre used to paying for just a simple meal
On a Friday night. 2024/Aug/09 Food Ordered a rare steak, it came medium as announces by the waiter, confirmed by the chef. Didnt send it back because Id rather not waste food. Sauce was great though. Service Waiter had no idea about the wine selections. Difficult to choose and no paired recommendations. Atmosphere It has one. But not excellent for a Friday night.
The atmosphere as well as the service here was great. The food portions were a tad small and unfortunately there were a few flys around our table. I did have higher expectations going into it given the reputation of the Fairmont. There were no accessibility buttons for the women s bathroom which made it difficult for a smooth entrance/exit.
Incredibly overrated restaurant. You can get twice the quality at Joey Rideau with less traffic. However, service is very great and the staff is amazing!
I got Steak & Frites, and definitely Quebec grass fed beef have an amazing flavor.
We had a marvellous brunch buffet and a special birthday treat!
High-end buffet with freshness every time
Sunday morning lunch buffet. It was perfect
Amazing food and service!
My Wife and I had breakfast here in August 2023 and were very disappointed with Buffet Breakfast, We have alway visited fairly regularly before 2020 and while the breakfast been pricey, you were never disappointed. It is now sub-par to what it was. When you are paying a premium price for a breakfast you do not have your guests line up to put butter on their toast. All condiments should be on the table. Servers should be attentive to make sure of this & that the buffet selection is well stocked and managed. Was also disappointed by the selection for the breakfast buffet. This is Ottawas premier hotel, and attention to these details should be a top priority. I hope that it improves.
I rarely write reviews but I felt I needed to review this restaurant. Although the booking on line was done with ease, and the hostess was gracious who was seating patrons, the positive experience ended there. We haven t been to this restaurant since before the pandemic, and we were excited to have Sunday brunch here on our anniversary. Upon being seated, we waited a great deal of time and no one acknowledged us. We began to self serve, and came back to our table with food, waiting for water and tea or coffee. Still no one came. When the waitress finally showed up, she said she was sorry and didn t see us. That s okay. I said no problem but that we did need water and asked for a tea. She then stopped to talk for a great length of time to another table who were clearly almost finished their meal. I finally got up to get some juice as that was the only thing available at the buffet, which I don t care to drink. I had finished a plate of food and she finally came back with water and tea. She did not check in on us at all during the meal for refills but did drop a dessert by and said Happy Anniversary and kept on walking. The waitress had time to walk through the restaurant talking to the manager though. My husband and I commented about the tables in front and behind us. The tables were constantly being checked on and offered fresh coffee and water regularly. One of those busy staff saw our plight and even though it wasn t her table, she came down and gave us more coffee and water. Our waitress ended up chatting again to the same table, then called the manager over to introduce them, and then she disappeared. I went to stand by the manager to try to get his attention, to no avail. I finally politely said excuse me, do you mind if we get our bill. He finally got us our bill. He asked how everything was and I did say politely that it took a long time to get a drink and a lot of time was spent on one table. I have no problem with staff chatting to friends or family while working, but not at the detriment of other patrons. After we paid our bill and went to leave, the friends of our waitress glared at me. I just smiled and she started shaking her head at me. What a terrible atmosphere for our anniversary. I would never have interrupted the obvious VIP customers conversation if I felt I had another choice. Note to management if your staff are too busy to bring water or tea and coffee, please consider extending your beverage centre to include these items. Such a disappointment. Will not be back for a great while.
The food was good
Went to the valentine s day special diner on Feb 14 with my partner. Everything was okay in the beginning, nice customer service and all. We got there 6:30PM and ordered everything very quickly. First issue was that you only had 3 options for the starter, 3 options for the main and 2 options for dessert. so if you are not feeling any of those items, too bad. We waited 40 mins to just to get our starter. The soup was good but the salad was horrible, not edible and unimaginative. Just a bunch of greens and beets with salt and pepper on it. Then we had to wait another 20 mins to get our main dishes, so at that point it was 8PM. At around 6:40 another table was sat next to us and they had received their started and main before 8PM. So their service took 10 minutes for starters and 20 mins after arrival for mains. The mains were good, however my ravioli was either still raw or was cooked after being frozen because you can literally see the white dough in certain parts and it was hard. The dessert was just ice cream and this little heart-shaped cake. The service coupled with the subpar food was definitely not worth $120 each person and definitely not worth basically ruining my valentines date.
Was in for brunch. Had the buffet which was wonderful. Great selection.
Very great customer service! The food was delicious. Will be going there again! Parking: If the valet is full you have to find your own parking Food : 5/5 |
Christmas brunch for 4 was over $600 (not including tip). The food was at best mediocre and definitely not worth the money spent. What really annoyed me was before we finished our brunch, staff were starting to vacuum and turned the lights down, giving us the impression we over stayed our welcome. We never got the feeling they appreciated us as a customer. My elderly father requires a walker. Despite there being tables on the entrance level, staff would only seat us at a table that required my father climb 3 steps, which he had great difficulty doing. Clearly not an ideal situation for someone with accessibility needs. For over 25 years I had been take my wife to Wilfred s for Sunday brunch to celebrate her birthday. Sad to say this tradition is now over. It s no longer worth the value. The quality of food has significantly dropped, there are less choices, and the price has significantly gone up. We can do better elsewhere. It used to be you could park in the Chateau s garage for a reasonable price. On Christmas Day it was valet parking only, $25 - cash only, and the hand was expecting a tip too. The experience felt like it was all about giving them our money and they didn t care about offering of value in return.
I thought I booked New Year s brunch but apparently that doesnt start until 11am. Our 10:30am reservation was for the breakfast buffet, which closed within 30 minutes. Chateau Laurier, block off reservations for the breakfast buffet after 10am. Give your customers a chance to enjoy the experience!
Awful new years eve experience , discusting food (even found a worm in a dish) , not even a drink attaches to the 120 dollar buffet .
We went for the Christmas eve buffet and the ambiance was really quite relaxing. They had a gentleman playing Christmas music on an electronic piano. There was a medium sized buffet with different choices though for our 7:45PM booking it became evident quickly that restocking was not a priority as the prime rib was no more and the dessert table was bare of what were to be some signature sweets. Salad and seafood table was abundant. Had we not paid such a high price ($105 per person) I would have been more forgiving but when the online description does not match reality then we need to get real. By 9PM the server was over with the bill without us even asking and it was clear that they were trying to chase patrons out. A review of the bill and I caught a charge of $24 per glass of wine, which was much more than the $$ on the menu, pointed out the discrepancy to the server who apologized and corrected - seriously?. In all a 3/5 and unlikely to return. For the money I know there are great restaurants in Ottawa that are 5/5 for quality, ambiance, service, and value.
I came here with my coworkers for brunch buffet. Its our second time coming here for our yearly work party. Its inviting with a lovely variety of brunch options and our server was very prompt and professional.
We had breakfast there this morning. Its not cheap, but it is the absolute best breakfast buffet in Ottawa. Clement the buffet chef is awesome, and our server Dave was polite, helpful and went out of his way to provide excellent service. The dining room itself is beautiful and clean. Weve been there several times in the past and will certainly keep going. Definitely recommend.
The service was excellent, merci Remi! Amazing buffet, great mix of traditional breakfast and fancier items. Great brunch location if you want to invite people from outside the region as it s right downtown and the view is nice if you get a table next to a window.
Our server was attentive, friendly and very helpful.
A disappointmenting experience. Not like other Fairmonts except for the lovely hotel ambience. Service was good. For the price, the buffet was small an unremarkable. No big carvings of any meat: no prime rib, ham, pork, turkey. No soups. Bread they served was actually basic grocery store: Dempsters style. Cheeses looked like basic grocery store types: no brie, blue cheese or anything of that calibre. Smoked salmon with onions and capers but no cream cheese as often served. Cold shrimps were good. Salad bar was unremarkable. Hot foods unremarkable: chili, curry, scrambled eggs very basic (not even close to Montebellos), maple crepes( not even close to Montebellos). Your basic sausage and bacon. Basic fruits cut up. Desserts were good but should have had a bowl of Whipped cream to enhance their flavors. Ran out of creme Brule. Serving utensils scattered. Not enough out. They gave us the 1:00 brunch reservation. At 2:25 we were told the buffet was now closed. Mentioned our concerns to the manager. Showed little concern.
Great restaurant and perfect for an early morning business breakfast meeting. Great view of Parliament Hill as a back drop.
Sunday brunch has been approved by the toughest crowd Great food and service!
Brought my mother and sister to their weekend brunch for their birthdays. Surprisingly good value for the price. Abundant seafood and meats on the buffet, great dessert spread. And the maple butter crepes were heavenly. Also a good amount of GF options.
Had an Israeli dish and the waitress was really good looking. Then had some ice cream which was fantastic as well.
The service, the attention to details , the food, the variety and the experience leaves you wanting to return every Sunday for their super yummy brunch! Thank you to Philippe for restoring our trust in your establishment! Vegetarian options: Salad bar, pasta station and vegetable stir fry, veggie curry dish Parking: Valet is offered and highly recommended to enhance the experience!
The other restaurant at Fairmont Chateau Laurier. We had breakfast, reservations are recommended because there could be an event going on. Buffet option for breakfast or A la Carte. Food was okay. Kids menus available. Buffet seemed okay. Everything was plated well for A la Carter I will be frank, it is somewhat over priced, you are paying for the service and location. My A la Carte item seemed like it was just a decorated buffet item. But it was half the price of the buffet option so that was okay. Kids pancakes were good and made well. Depending on Buffet or A la Carte, expect to spend $40 to $60 per person. If you are hungry and can eat two plates of breakfast go with the buffet, if not no point. Parking: Valet only, you will have to find parking elsewhere and walk a bit to the hotel.
We went for breakfast at Château Laurier, the buffet menu is very interesting and very good! The chefs sympathy and his valuable advice are a real plus! Very pleasant service by Ulysse.
Excellent buffet and great staff!
We were for brunch omlet was day and overcooked crapes ere cold hitap buffet f sh was cold.
Pretty solid breakfast / hotel buffet. Food was fresh, well made and tasty. The buffet was a bit pricey but I rationalized it as the price for convenience.
It was amazing the food is really great, we even took home some patisserie!
Brunch was delicious, especially the crepes with maple syrup and the house smoked ham. Coffee very good and the service exceptional. There was no yoghurt with granola and berries on the buffet as listed on the menu but a very helpful waiter had that remedied. Cant say enough about the service!
A really good hotel, beautiful and special, the rooms are clean and spacious and the restaurants are really good, the view and the food in them, along with courteous and fast service, will bring me back here again In short, it is highly recommended in July
I wont be going back anytime soon for the food. When I compare to the Roselys buffet at Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in Montreal, its night and day. The quality of the dishes and the choice is not comparable. For the asking price, I expected better from a Fairmont.
We recently celebrated a birthday here and opted for their breakfast buffet. The service was excellent. They really went the extra mile to make it a memorable occasion for us. However, when we first sat down at our table, I noticed my coffee cup had some stains, and the placemat seemed to have remnants of egg on it. Thankfully, the attentive waiter spotted the issue and promptly replaced my coffee cup. The placemat remained unfortunately. As for the breakfast buffet itself, it was quite good. Lots of selection. Initially, I had planned to order from the menu because I typically dont eat enough to justify the buffets price. To my surprise, though, most of the à la carte options were just as pricey. Despite the minor hiccup with the table, we would consider returning for another special occasion in the future. Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu.
Its a nice restaurant, but we felt it was overpriced for the quality offered. For this price point there are several way better options within 5 min walk.
We dined here for our wedding anniversary.. first, I found plastic in the food and server said she will show it to the chef.. at the end of our meal I asked what the chef said, server told me that she wasn t able to show it to the chef and will just tell them later on then, my husband was lined up for the roast beef and the cook cutting the meat made him feel guilty for taking the last serving.. I think it was just right that we get to enjoy all the dishes on the buffet.. for $60+ tax heck yes!! The restaurant wasn t even full and its are bad service.. what more if it was full .. not worth it
Had a wonderful experience there. Enjoyed the quality of food and service.
Came here for a brunch on a Sunday, and the experience and food was amazing! A friend had mentioned that they used to do an all you can eat brunch, which would ve been amazing to try, however this was just as good! We were seated quickly (with a reservation) and was explained how the menu worked. We got everything on the menu, and they brought it out course by course. Something to note, you are offered one drink per person however if you want a different drink after (like coffee or tea) you re charged extra and we weren t told about this beforehand. It was a very unique experience and I would do it again for a special occasion! Highly recommend coming on an empty stomach to make the most of the food!
I enjoy Wilfred s. The food is excellent. We really enjoy the meat offerings and are looking forward to their continued offerings as they now have an in-house butcher shop. I will say that our service has been very hit and miss. I understand the restaurant has gone through a lot over Covid, and that they likely need to work out kinks (we were actually told as much). I took this into consideration with my review and did not deduct more. I am hoping for improved and more consistent service during future visits, as the menu offerings have been excellent each time.
Good food, attentive service - avocado toast + steak & eggs
Wonderful Brunch! We definitely recommend it! the food was very tasty, great selection, big portions, amazing service and a beautiful atmosphere. Great place to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or any special occasion, or to just treat yourself.
Kind and professional staff, great breakfast and calm environment!
This mothers day brunch experience was absolutely terrible. It would have been terrible at half the price, but the temerity of charging 95$ a person for service this far beneath what one would expect at any diner was shocking. Ive been a fan of Fairmont properties for years and was recently delighted at the Chateau Frontenac. You will not get anything you would normally expect from a Fairmont restaurant here. You will plead for coffee and chase your order after half an hour and wait forever for orange juice. Overall a humiliating experience and I had to apologize to the mothers I invited out for what should have been a special occasion.
Mother day brunch at Wilfred s was very underwhelming, especially at $95/pp. the staff were kind but overall the meal was very mediocre. For the price, it was not good. Nothing was hot; not the coffee, not the egg dishes; the seafood tower we ordered, came after 45 mins and we had finished our meal. (Hope someone else received it). The washrooms were not dirty, but they hadn t been attended to. Overall it was a real disappointment. We won t come back, nor recommend. I never post reviews.
Great outdoor patio at this restaurant. The food is delicious but as most higher priced restaurants, portions are small. Drinks are well made but also a bit pricey. You are paying for a nice restaurant and location.
The environmental service and food are really great, worth it!
I ve been at this place for Brunch and it has been amazing , (before covid) and food was amazing , so many varieties I went today and the buffet looks so sad , not too many items like before , presentation was awful. It was just a SAD buffet. And then the bill $88 for 2 I won t come back , I can have better food at Cora. So sorry guys very disappointed.
1 star is 1 star too much. What a terrible disappointment this restaurant is! I remember having week end brunch at Fairmonts across Canada and was always a good experience. The brunch buffet is very minimal. Half not replenish. We decided to go for the A la carte option. Pancakes not available right off the start. I choose the Canadian breakfast. My partner the avocado toast. My eggs came overcooked. It took 18 minutes to get the original meal, 13 more minutes to get my plate re-done. Plate arrives, no toast. Server MIA for 8 more minutes till we find someone to get us some toast. Eggs ( overmedium ) were broken , breakfast potatoes oily and cold. At the table there were no cofee spoons. I asked for it and we got 1. We shared 1 spoon... I truly do not know how quality could have gone so low , and how can Fairmont allow such low level of quality within its properties.
The 5 women in our family came to the Chateau Laurier to celebrate our matriarchs 90th birthday. Sadly, both breakfast experiences at Wilfrid s we abysmal. The first morning there was a mistake in each of our dishes, the plates all arrived twenty minutes between the first and the last, we had to ask for pepper, butter, ketchup - none of it was on the table. We also had to specially request a beverage, which were included in each of our dishes, but never offered. We assumed this was a once-off, but then returned the next morning to an identical experience. Our matriarch waited 18 minutes after everyone else received their food before she received hers, with barely an apology. Entirely disrespectful for a woman who just turned 90, enjoying breakfast with her two daughters and two granddaughters. Although our server did seem embarrassed in a way that showed this was a regular occurrence. At $40/plate, this wasn t worth half that as the food wasn t exactly impressive. The only positive experience is the pleasant attitude of the staff - everything else is broken and frustrating. When you enjoy a weekend at a luxury hotel, you expect luxury experiences in the restaurant. This service was less organized than your local greasy spoon.
No juice, the cheapest fruit available, tepid coffee, crepes that are barely cooked. And this at 9 AM. Whats happened to this place?
Run down, AC doesnt work well, food is stale, their espresso machine is down. 2 people serving the whole dining area. Hands down the worst breakfast Ive had!
Great location. Brunch with the family was memorable. Kind personnel. Would recommend
We had the most amazing Thanksgiving brunch today executed with perfection. The food was fabulous, tasted like heaven, service the friendliest ever, amazing desert buffet to finish. We were a company of 6 plus a baby. Thank you Fairmont, you never fail your customers
We went for brunch on Saturday 13th of March, 2021. Safety is exceptional. Distancing respected. Waiters assigned to specific tables. Super nice waiters and staff! Felt very safe. And then the food came! Full 4 course brunch! The seafood tower was to die for; the eggs Benedict with duck confit (asked for sauce on the side); the beets salad with honey roasted cheddar; the maple fried chicken on waffle (OMG!); the burrata with honey roasted squash (amazing); then ...as if that wasn t enough, the excellent desserts; maple crepes (thin pancakes) and a selection of pastries...way too much food but Oh so delicious! Highly recommended!!
Delicious tasting menus and great wine pairings. As covid conscious as I would expect from a restaurant. The staff is friendly and professional. 4 stars as I went for my birthday and nothing special was done, and I still needed to mention my wifes dietary limitations despite telling them several times during the booking and confirmation process. We really did enjoy ourselves though and the service was great!
It was ok.. expected more actually. Went for the 80$pp tasting menu for dinner that came with four courses. The first three courses were basically the same appetizers and sharing plates available a la carte from the other restaurant in the hotel (kid you not). Small portions and the quality was the same as Milestones. Dessert was good and they make really really good non-alcholic drinks. The service was good but all of our food came out luke warm and they started sending out our food before we even had a chance to order drinks. Also not a fan of family style aka everything on one plate in the middle. I think its way more elegant when food is plated individually. I always find Fairmont hotel meals to be a hit or miss but tonight it was a miss.
The brunch experience was not bad, the best moment was there seafood tower, the rest did not impress me that much. Otherwise beautiful hotel full of history!
Very good breakfast with excellent and extremely friendly staff. Beautiful views and a great way to start the day
Wonderful service and fantastic breakfast! Atmosphere was great! Love the location and the patio would be so nice! Would come back any day! It really makes your morning and starts your day off right!
I never been tempted to leave a negative Goggle review but I feel obligated to warn people about the absurdly high prices ($16 for pot of tea bag mint tea!) and poor food. We ordered the tasting menu for dinner and expected a gourmet meal but it was one of the most disappointing, flavourless meals I ve ever had despite the fact that it cost over $200 for two people (without drinks). Best avoided.
Went in November 2021 and enjoyed the 4 course special. It was worth the price ($44 a head) and the food was very upscale
Great food. No valet parking!
Food is of less quantity and normal test . Nothing special
Very friendly service with a tasteful look. We went around 9:30 pm which to my surprise was so dead. We were one of the only two parties there. The selection on the menu was very limited so we decided to have drinks and pass on dinner. Would recommend going before 9 pm here!
Best Sunday brunch buffet Ive been to. Amazing variety and their selection of cheese is sinful!
Really enjoyed the brunch experience! Highly recommend.
Amazing food, well worth the price. The exceptional service just a huge bonus. They changed the buffet brunch into amazing set menu that changes every 2 weeks or so. On Dec 13 they had amazing seafood selection including salmon, tuna, shrimp, and the second set has lobster pasta and some funky stuff i cant even pronounced thats sweet with some cheese and sugar baked croutons. Thats before the maple butter pancakes among other desserts. Crazy amount of food.
Went for a birthday dinner. Had the 5 course tasting menu. It exceeded our expectations. Service was impeccable!
The Chateau Laurier staff lived up to their excellent reputation of attentive professionalism. When my friend and I arrived for her birthday supper at Wilfreds, we were greeted by a welcoming and helpful Ambassador. Wilfreds hostess brought us to our table, where we were immediately attended to by our waiter, who took our drink order and explained how the tasting menu worked. We were impressed by the waitstaff who not only described each course they delivered, but also replaced the cutlery for every course so that the flavors of one would not mix with the next. Every course brought to us was absolutely flavorful and delicious. Our taste buds exploded with each bite. It was as if the chef knew us personally and had specifically chosen every dish and ingredient just for us. Our tongues explored every nuance of taste and our palates were never sated, always crying out for more, so happy in the knowledge that more deliciousness was on its way. Finally, with the last bite of the mini pastries, we were filled to the brim with contented satisfaction. We had barely finished our last bite, when we started planning our return to Wilfreds and were already looking forward to the next taste adventure.
The restaurant is very tasty. Food quality is great. However, for the price, they stopped serving scallops and shrimps an hour before the end of the buffet. I was extremely disappointed and apprently every year they run out. To conclude, food quality is great but way too overpriced for the service
Great Food but Poor Service this time. We have been there many times and always loved it. But this time was a real let down. The quality and selection of the food was terrific as always. The service there has always been exemplary, but this time is was horribly slow. After being seated we waited almost 10 minutes before we saw our waitress and ordered a coffee. A lady at the next table was so tired of waiting she got up and went to the servers station to get herself a clean spoon. Our juice and coffee order was mixed up twice. Our waitress was very hard to find. After waiting 20 minutes for our check I had to ask another member of the staff for it. I explained when booking this was our 42nd anniversary (and requested a table by the windows.) We got a table on the window side but a wall beside us, not the window view I requested. There was a very loud table of about 15 next to us. So loud my wife and I couldnt hear each other at times. None of the staff asked them to keep it down. Sunday Brunch about $44 per person. Great food, but a bad experience this time. We will continue to go to Wilfreds but if we get similar service again it will be the last time.
The best night of my life. I arranged to propose to my now fiance during Valentines day dinner. The staff seamlessly collaborated with the concierge to deliver the flowers I ordered to our table at the perfect time. The waitress and manager were quick to offer to take our picture throughout the night. Each of the staff members were so pleasant to deal with. When I asked where the washroom was they even guided me right to the door. Oh wait... And the FOOD!! It was like the gates of heaven opened up and rained down their meaty and chocolatey goodness on to our plates. The chef was literally playing a private symphony for both of us inside of our mouths. Credit must be given to the sommelier as well. The wine pairings were brilliant and like nothing Ive ever had before. Yes its expensive compared to East Side Marios or some other compost heap. But, for a special occasion its a steal. I cant thank the good people at Wilfrids enough so thank you thank you thank you... !!!
This is an all around fine-dining restaurant that offers it all. Our waitress was excellent, and her service was top notch. She was very attentive and spot on. I had selected a meal that had an item which I couldnt eat (dietary restriction). So I asked for an alternative dish, and she joked about fate deciding. Indeed I ended up with the Duck breast, which was a very unique meal and done really well. When I ordered coffee it came with cream in it. I didnt mind that, but she didnt like that and apologized to me that it was added. Excellent service. The menu appears to be very carefully crafted with some really well thought out meal sides which accompany the main dish really well. Great duck and veal, but most importantly that flour-less chocolate cake was legendary! Overall ambiance was perfect. I was there for a romantic dinner, and there was a family group and even some with children, but the atmosphere was still quiet and pleasant. Nicely done, and priced for a special evening out.
Beautiful view, great service, great food !
Went for Saturday brunch and was served burn cold food l. Not enough staff
*Revised* Service, seating are good. Staff is nice. I didnt enjoy the Prime Rib but its my fault for ordering it Medium well, which is why it was tough and chewy. The mash was nice and creamy but the green beans were difficult to eat. Expected the Au Jus sauce to be better and the New York was under cooked.
The whole meal experience at Wilfrids was simply delightful. The staff is warm and welcoming. The food is delicious, the selection of wines is great, the overall atmosphere is wonderful. Si vous recherchez un resto pour un repas spécial, rendez vous chez Wilfrids.
Outstanding food and amazing service. We had a wonderful evening.
Delicious!
Only ate here once while we were staying at the Fairmont. Every other meal we bought off-site. We were exhausted from traveling and didnt want look for somewhere else to eat. I ordered the burger which is $25 and didnt even include a side. It was also not the best burger Ive ever eaten. Service was slow. My husbands pasta portion was small as well. That paired with the fact that my burger didnt even come with a side was ridiculous. Not a 5 star dining experience, and not worthy of dressing nice to dine here. We spent over $100 for 2 mains and 2 drinks. Dont eat here unless youre dead tired like we were...
When we first arrived for our canada day reservation we were told it was buffet only, which is a problem as my boyfriend and i are vegetarians. And we were assured by the booking staff we could order from the al a cart menu. Worried at first our plans would be spoiled because it was our anniversary the staff quickly got the manager and were blown away by the service offered. The manager quided us to la terrace to show us yhe stunning view then got us a table in the Wilfred and allowed us to order off the menu anyway. Everyone here upset about the small portions for the price clearly have no taste buds and dont know how to appreciate a well prepared meal. Our meal was delicious and we were swiftly offered a glass of champagne on the house to help celebrate our anniversary aswell as a nice dessert with chocolate letters on behalf of the kitchen. What we thought would end up a spoiled evening turned into something better than we ever expected. Thank you fairmont and Wilfred staff for such a wonderful evening we will be making this a tradition. And Alex was also an amazing server.
I was there for a conference and visited the lounge. I love the new decor and the wine was superb but the service was atrocious. The waitress I had was very rude so I decided to move to the bar and sadly, the bartenders never once said hello or offered anything else. I stayed for a glass of wine and left promptly. Not impressed given the calibre of the hotel.
Nice food and wonderful experience!
Excellent service, delicious food and the customer service was excellent.
Delicious breakfast served by an attentive wait staff and priced affordably.
Enjoyed the breakfast/buffet. Fresh and tasty food and a great way to start the day.
Overall good, probably would never have went if it wasn t of open table recommendation. Service and food was good and service was excellent. Scotch options are limited.
Nice service
Nice service but too slow. Dishes too specific sweet and salty. Disappointed but we should have looked at the map first.
Very good food and attentive, cordial staff. We attended the Dickens Brunch and had an excellent meal. The roast turkey was tender and delicious with cranberry sauce, and a wonderful baked butternut squash. A selection of different types of potatoes and other roasted root vegetables brought me back for a second helping. All the traditional trappings of a great Christmas dinner were there but also a variety of other fine choices including a bountiful salad table. Save a little space if you can for sampling the decadent and plentiful desserts.
Traditions Worth Keeping
Excellent food, impeccable service, abundant choice, comfortable decor.
Nice room, beautiful views! Quality food, always made right and fresh daily. New Years brunch was $90, each person.
The breakfast buffet is NOT worth the $30 per person price. So much of the food was stale or cold - from the breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, beans, pancakes, etc., etc. etc. All were in little bowls, with tiny portions left, so it was mindboggling how they werent refreshed periodically to ensure freshness and proper temperature over the entire course of our dining experience. I guess other patrons werent eating these items to finish the bowl off, so they werent being refreshed?! The omelettes are nice because they are freshly prepared and made to order so they are hot and fresh but this doesnt make up for the disappointing rest. The staff are pretty friendly, especially the gentleman making the omelettes and crepes. We shared our concerns with our waitress and at first she was very defensive but then changed her tone. The manager offered his apologies and a discount/fresh pancakes brought to our table, which we of course appreciated, but its sad for all who dine here, that a Fairmont would have this low quality of food, at this price and we didnt see that any of the items were replaced at the main buffet, so the cold, stale options continued to be served to others.
Very slow service. Half empty on Feb 17 and took 15 minutes for coffee and 35 minutes for eggs Benedict. Tired decor. Overpriced for small portions. Not 5* luxury as advertised.
You always know what youre getting at a Fairmont Property. Great service, great good.
There are reasons for why it is just a 2. Food/Price- The food was good! Albeit rather meager, especially for the price ($12 for a simple tart!), it was tasty. The menu was concise but diverse. Atmosphere- Nothing to run home about. Your typical hotel restaurant atmosphere. Service. Dreadful. Absolutely unrecognized. Prices of restaurants should reflect the service. This does not. It took forever just to be seated. 30 minutes for an entree. 15 minites for an entree. 30 minutes for a check. My party had 2 appetizers, 3 desserts, approximately $70-80 without tip. 90ish minutes for a minimal amount of food and service (water wasnt a given!) is completely unacceptable.
Nice restaurant. We had a great time having lunch.
This review is just for the breakfast brunch. I was staying at another hotel but decided to venture here for breakfast. The brunch was pricey at $30 but I felt it was worth it for the ambiance of the restaurant, and the amazing selection of foods that they had.
By far the worst duck I have ever had. The prices are ridiculously overpriced for such a small portion. We were 14 people at the table and none of us finished our plates. The food is NOT edible!!!!
Its honestly just doesnt live up to expectations, there are plenty of different high end options and this restaurant has and looked the feel of high end, I had halibut and soft shell crab, crab was alright, halibut was fishy (I know halibut has a fishy taste, but it could have had a perfume line by holt renfrew called literally the ocean). However, chorizo and chikpeas, great.
Look, Im a 22 year old guy, I was brought here against my will. This place wasnt terrible, if your a rich person who loves the rich and exquisite, this is the place for you. However if your like me, and want a real portion size of food, I wouldnt suggest this place. I know what I ordered probably wasnt helping, as when I googled it, I already saw it was small. However for its size the price was outrageous ( thats pasta btw ). The place was nice to look at, and the atmosphere was very nice. The food came at a right time for a huge group of people, however If you were with 2 people or alone.... not so good. If your coming for the Prime Rib, Im told it was delicious. Im giving this place a 3 star because it was simply not for me, all though very nice and presentable. Look at the menu in the photo, Google some of them for size comparison. And then judge for yourself. Hope this helped in some way.
I celebrated my birthday today at Wilfrids and must say that the service by Karl S was great and quality of food was excellent. Good choose of food, and the fish with cranberry glaze was perfectly done as was the turkey. Salads offered a wide variety for all tastes. A memorable experience for us. Thanks
Amazing food and service. Wonderful with food allergies!!!
Great brunch buffet with great service. We came for new years day brunch to celebrate my daughters birthday. I figured brunch in a castle for my princess. We arrived early as they said they cant guarantee a table with a view, only to find out that very few tables have a view. Again, the brunch was great but they did not tell me they double the price for new years. So when I open my bill thinking it was gonna be $150-175ish but was hit with a $300 bill. If you are charging more then you should have more staff on hand. The lines were a disappointment when you are paying this price. 2 people instead of 1 for a egg station would go along way. My wife and daughter went to use the washroom, and found it filthy and they never say anything but were disgusted with this. So between a filthy washroom and long lines, Im not sure if I will be back. Not quite what I was expecting for this callaber of a hotel in regards to cleanliness. Very cool history and its a building that you have to see when visiting our nations capital
Been there several times, each time for dinner. Service was great, atmosphere was great, food was great. I always made reservations and never had to wait. I always ordered the same main dishes, creature of habit: the duck and the prime rib are fantastic. The apps are good too. The only one that sticks in my memory is their crab cake. I think Ive only ever had one off night, it was a weekday night so maybe it was a different head chef. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Nothing special. Better choices in town.
Nice ambience. Delicious food & Excellent service!
Great ambiance, excellent service, wonderful food. Perfect for a romantic dinner.
Had breakfast, plates are very clean, portions are perfect. Prices are a bit expensive. 17$for granola. 22$ for eggs bennys. Aside from the prices, service was excellent. Also they have gluten free options.
Was super disappointed over all, had to ask multiple times through the dinner for a refill on my water, got the shrimp and scallops. Shrimp was...unappealing and dry, and scallops were decent. Alfredo sauce was runny and capers flavourless. Would not recommend to ANYONE, ever.
Terrible experience. $15 for a French onion soup that tastes like bbq sauce...yuk! $20 for a salty icky crab cake! Yes (1) crab cake! Ive been to Vancouver... Ive been to Halifax and Nova Scotia... never ever had a worst price for a ok at best crab cake. Do not get the seafood linguine unless you like cold pasta..and cold shrips/scallops... maybe thats how its served but.... not for Me! The kids menu is the best bang for your buck. But French fries are an orange color and taste weird.. so dont get that. The prime rib meal was pretty good and the proportion was also good. However for a $200 meal. I rate it a 6/10. Service and staff were friendly and nice. No complaints there.
Incredible views and vibe from the Château Laurier and this upscale restaurant. The brunch is somewhat overpriced but is truly an experience in its own. Friendly service, delicious food and unlimited eggs benny set this place apart. On a side note, Jimmy the omelette guy is a legend.
Price is way too high for quality of food. Very friendly staff and beautiful views... just be prepared to pay for it.
Fine dining from breakfast to dinner with views of Parliament Hill.
Good for a coffee or drink with a cosy seating area but i would rather go to other places to eat
