Wolf Down in Ottawa

Stopped in for lunch as I was passing through Ottawa. Amazing sandwich! Absolutely delicious and felt very healthy. The bun was perfection. Great sauce, super simple menu options. Heavily recommend.

Probably the worst food Ive ever had. Their secret sauce is mayonnaise with black pepper. The bowl, disgusting. I got hellishly sick. Another friend of mine, hellishly sick. Stay away from this place. Its pretentious crap.

Absolutely stellar food. Under $20 for a sandwich. Super quick service. Ample seating. Highly recommend, especially as a quick lunch option.

Bought a take out sandwich with sauce on side, they forgot my sauce.

Food was fresh and tasty, service courteous and space was very very clean. Danke shon! What you see on the photos was a salad with chicken and extra beef. I find the price slightly high for the quantity of meat and it would be great if they cut the meat directly from the stacks instead of pre-cutting it and keep it in a separate container: we want that crispy texture! Will come back and update review accordingly.

When I moved to Canada I thought shawarma was the equivalent of what we call Turkish or Greek sandwich in France. But I don t like shawarma (I know, unpopular opinion, especially in Ottawa). Wolf down has what I was looking for. A flavourful Turkish/German sandwich packed with crispy veggies. Everything is fresh. The only thing is the place is not meant to hang out.

I feel like the sandwiches are much smaller now. Still tastes ok, but the bread is different and smaller, so the entire sandwich was smaller. As they are kind of expensive, it is a little sad to see that they are smaller now. (ordered through urber eats, maybe its different in person). Ill probably order again in a few months and see if it was just a one off (and update this rating accordingly).

Sandwiches have gone down in quality lately unfortunately, and way too expensive. I think they changed the bread, not sure. And there used to be more toppings. I picked up two chicken sandwiches and it came out to $35, come on! They should be $10 each at the most.

Fantastic food and great vegan options! My husband says it s the best tofu he s ever had. One note: They mentioned their chicken is seasoned with a milk powder, so just fyi from an allergen perspective.

Amazing beef sandwich but the atmosphere lacks a bit of character. Wouldn t hurt to keep the tables/ bar clean, especially when it s not busy.

One of the best sandwiches Ive had in a long time.

Nice building even though I didnt eat inside, I ordered a beef sandwich with extra meat and a pop for a total of 27$ with no veggies. Tbh not worth it, too much spices in the meat, I suspect they went crazy with the sumac. Its a meat sandwich so you want to taste the meat not the spices. Service is ok I guess, its what you expect from a shawarma place.

Food is delicious, carefully prepared, a throwback to my trip to Berlin in 2015... <3 Not an extensive menu, but there are enough options/combinations to choose from (theres even a vegan one, too), and this makes the food super fresh and tasty. You can sit there comfortably to eat, just note that its a small venue.

Best sandwich Ive had in Ottawa!

A little pricey for what it is but absolutely delicious! We got the beef donair sandwich and really enjoyed the flavours, especially from the sauce.

Bread was recently changed. It was the best part.

Tasty food (in HUGE portions), and great service! With the lack of sides, I had ordered a sandwich with a degree of caution, fully expecting to still be hungry (even entertaining the idea of adding extra meat, but I later decided against this) ...but was pleasantly surprised to be given a portion that filled me so much I didnt need dinner. :-) So good.

I ve ordered from here a lot but my last order of the beef sandwich seems a quarter of the usual size. Not sure if they ve downsized the sandwhich or if the chicken and beef are typically different but the price for the size I got doesn t seem to hold as much value anymore. Still a great spot.

...yep. If you want a unique food experience, or if you think you dont like tofu, or if youre vegan, you have to try Wolf Downs tofu. Vegetarian options: The tofu is so unique and so good! I havent had tofu with texture like that before - a really nice chew. And the seasoning, combined with the vegan sauces, is just incredible.

Wolf Down is definitely worth a visit if you havent been before, and its definitely worth adding to your rotation if you have. Ive been a handful of times for takeout, and its always ready on time with some of the best bread, sauce and chicken in a huge serving. Cant recommend it enough if youre looking for a solid sandwich in Centretown. The nut milk was worth trying once but the price is pretty high for the size.

I m going to be honest the sandwich has lots of potential, I got the tofu sandwich and the flavours were nice but the tofu was god awful. So dry and rubbery it made the sandwich so meh I hope they can work on their tofu option, also the guy that served us was a little rude maybe he was having a bad day but damn lol take it easy bud

Great value for the times, minimal yet cozy atmosphere with the old building showing in good places and the kitchen looking tidy. Secret sauce is poppin . Good snack!

I ve greatly enjoyed Wolf down s food so far. I don t get food deliveries often but I found myself ordering their chicken rice bowl two weeks in a row! I m excited to be able to visit them in person and try out other items on their menu. I highly recommend!

100% recommend of your on the go and looking for confort food. This was my first ever German Donner and Wolf Down lived up to the expectation. The sauce was amazing and hardy. The meat was well seasoned and cooked. Overall, it filled me up because so much was packed into the sandwich. The sandwich is worth the price because you are paying for quality. The staff were friendly and atmosphere was great.

Super rude employees at the cash

Its pretty good. Sandwiches taste good. Drinks are too expensive and not many options. German Doner Kebab has more options on the menu like fries among other things.

Always great food and service. Theyve become a regular spot for us, lunch or dinner. Kid-friendliness: Nothing specifically kid oriented, but welcoming to kids, and mine love the food.

The only reason I m giving this amazing place a 3 star rating was due to a recent customer experience where the workers who worked on Monday January 30 literally disrespected what we ordered and did what they thought was the best suit for the Sandwich Not sure where our English got misinterpreted but we said we ve tried it three times and liked ALL sauces. If a customer asks for such it s high key expected to follow through and not make us feel like we did something to disrespect the food item. Sorry but we ve been turned off this location for this reason alone. Other than that, food is amazing if you re looking for a healthy alternative. Sucks it went this way but maybe learn from this and to listen to what a customer wants.

I had one of the meat sandwiches with the sauces on the side in case they were too hot for my taste. The sandwich size is perfect, very tasteful. Sauces are great - not too hot. Servers are friendly and explain their menu options very well. Decor and ambiance are nice. Recommended!

Great service. Tofu on a rotisserie spit and very tasty. Reminds me of tasty Berlin doner. Hopefully they can switch out the plastic forks for non-plastic options.

Food is fine - value is not bad actually. Space is nice, and food is warmer than the service.

This place has great Berlin street style Donair. Easily some of my favorite donair in Ottawa. Ive been going for a while and the quality is always good! The bread is really tasty but I like the rice and veggie bowls and I always get extra meat. Ends up being a mix of the chicken and the beef. Now the best part in my opinion is the sauces. It comes with this delicious dill like white sauce and also a tangy spicy sauce. Both are amazing and go very well with the meat. Highly recommend.

This place is simply awesome. Focused on German street food, picture a square bun cut in half stuffed with your choice of protein and full of veg. Spicy or mild sauce, vegan options, and the choice of spit roasted tofu in addition to chicken/beef etc. Love this place! Vegetarian options: Vegan sauces, tofu.

First time trying it, beef and chicken sandwich. My opinion; its good but I personally would not buy it again. 13.50$ for bread filled with salad just not worth it. Beef was more tasty then chicken in my opinion, bread is fresh and delicious, secret sauce also delicious, but beef sandwiches barely had any beef in it, for me was vegetables sandwich. If there was more meat in it would be perfect, this way I feel like a I paid for bread and salad.

Its a good place to grab a sandwich and its fairly quick. The sauce and bread is what makes it as the meats are not standing out as the big draw. I would have liked some sort of side like fries or something. Love the feel of the place.

I honestly dont get it. Ive tried their tofu and their chicken. The tofu was so rubbery I couldnt chew it and had to leave the plate. The chicken was okay but not great. The veggies in the bowl are mostly just shredded lettuce with a very thick mayo like sauce. How is this place competing in shawarma capital? I dont know.

I just ordered the beef rice bowl with lettuce, tomato, onion, and secret sauce and spicy sauce. All I can say is F$CK me up daddy best meal I ve had in a long time. 10/10.

Beef wrap is really fresh. Beef is tasty the fresh fresh veggies and the amazing sauces they use. A hidden gem in Ottawa. The best german wrap i have ever had. To top it all they are very consistent with food quality and taste. Will be returning again.

So this was our second time visiting Wolf Down, and once again, we are amazed with this place. Totally unique. Every bite is a blast of flavours that you really don t encounter anywhere else in Ottawa. It s hard to identify what spices you re tasting but what I can say is the food here is a joy and a treat to eat. I don t know how else to explain it, try it for yourself and you won t be disappointed!! The beef sandwich and beef salad today were fantastic. Highly recommended!

The tofu sandwich is the GOAT. Get both sauces. I am not a spicy person but my life changed for the better when I started getting both sauces on my sandwich. It is not spicy, but a ticket to flavourtown. Wolf Down never disappoints.

Didnt want to wait 25 mins in store at 10pm after work to get dinner, and my debit card doesnt have an online interact option. When I called to place a pickup order they wouldnt take it, and told me I needed to process and pay on their own website or uber eats. This was going to be our first time trying wolf down but I wont try it now due to the customer service and lack of accessibility. Not everyone has the capabilities of paying online and losing a sale because you didnt want to do your job isnt acceptable. Customer service didnt exist. We are bank street locals and this was a disappointment. Trying something else tonight especially after reading the reviews that you dont take cash. This is a highly populated area of homelessness, those of which rely on change and cash to make ends meet. They cannot access your establishment because they have no way to pay? Do better please.

Surprisingly good food. Ordered chicken rice bowl and was actually blown away with the quality and quantity you get for $15. Fresh vegetables, rice and mouth watering sauce. Quite honestly, the best in its class. Parking: Bank Street parking. Impossible during rush hour, OK during off peak hours.

This place is always amazing. The food is very consistent between visits which is much appreciated. Bowls are getting smaller over time - shrinkflation but thats just the norm these days.

This is hands down the best döner I have had in this country. I see a lot of reviews here complaining and comparing it to a shawarma. It is not the Same thing at all. So let s not get confused this dish is not advertised as shawarma even so I digress. Different taste and flavour. It was my first time stopping in today and was pleasantly surprised. The front counter employee was helpful, upbeat (uncommon in casual dining spots!) and informative. Their selection is quite low, but I personally like the concept as it means theyre not trying to do too much too quickly. Overall good experience. Food was tasty; tried the beef sandwich as well as the tofu. Both phenomenal and be sure to get BOTH sauces on it. Excellent!

I really like Wolf Down for the most part but it really depends on who makes your food. The portions and quality seem to differ based on time of day and staff working. I just went and the portion was much smaller protein wise than it was last week and really light on the veggies. With more consistency this place would be awesome. Definitely worth a try though if you havent been.

Took the family and had just about every variation of their chicken and beef options. Everybody loved it. Loved the minimalist menu. Pick your vehicle (sandwich/salad/rice bowl). Pick your protein. New to Ottawa and stopped here for lunch. No regrets. Super tasty sandwich!

Probably won t be coming here ever again. I tipped and asked to try the sauce before confirming and was denied. I then asked for extra sauce and told me there would be a charge, but then decided to allow it just once. Even though my tip was more than double the amount the extra sauce. Wish I could take it back however I chose not to make a scene and just notify everyone instead. Shame because their food is good but service is disgusting.

I ordered the chicken rice bowl. The rice felt like it was a few days old. There was minimal chicken portion and it was flavourless. The sauces had no flavour, i asked for both and i didnt taste any hot sauce. Definitely will not be coming back.

Ordered a sandwich to go, it was ready super fast and tasted amazing! I ll definitely be ordering again and would highly recommend!

Donair was excellent - dont fail to get the curry-ketchup this is the real flavour of German student/street food! Decor is a little severe and modern minimalistic but we expect that from Germans!

My favourite work lunch place in Centertown. The beef salad bowl with everything is my go-to, and delivers a variety of great flavors.

Throughout my European travels one of the things Ive missed the most are these sandwiches. I fell in love with the Berlin street food and have been craving one of these so bad. Since coming back to Canada its been really hard to find the same quality of products. Thank you Wolf Down *edit* Since my first review 4 years ago it saddened me to find that the sandwich has been reduced in size and therefore my previous 5 star review is now a 4 star. Dont get me wrong still a tasty sandwich however if youve ever been to Germany you know they PACK it with meat. Wolf Down previously packed their sandwiches like in Germany but recently reduced the amount of meat of the sandwich. Sure you can pay extra for additional meat but thats almost an extra $5, I would much prefer to pay a couple dollars more and get a real German experience. Just my two cents. Lately Ive been going to GDK on Elgin instead since they pack the meat and also offer the diner box with fries.
