Ive been here multiple times, I usually dont judge or leave a review from a one-time experience. The waiters are absolutely rude, not friendly, and not welcoming . As I was setting with 4 other friends with table full of food, out of nowhere this guy comes in placing a bucket in our table without saying anything, we were all wondering what was that, all of the sudden he pure some water or whatever it was to make the smoke. They should teach their staff some customer service. And not to mention their food, no quality at all. We were really disappointed with everything there.

Today was our first visit to AlHalabi restaurant, The food was absolutely authentic it tastes like home, the prices were very reasonable and the atmosphere made you feel you were back home in Syria, may I also add that the service was top knotch. If there would be a higher rating than 5, I would have absolutely rated it much higher. I will definitely be dining there more often.

Heres a review based on your experience: --- I recently dined at alhalabi, and while the food was good and the service attentive, there are a few things to consider before visiting. The restaurant is a bit on the pricier side. However, one aspect that left a bad taste in my mouth was the hidden charge for paying by credit card. They added a $2 fee to my bill without any prior notice. This is not only a poor practice but also misleading, especially since, for a $40 bill, businesses typically get charged around 3% by credit card companies, which is much less than $2. It feels like an unfair charge passed onto customers without transparency. While I enjoyed the meal, this lack of upfront communication about the extra fee left me disappointed. I hope they reconsider this policy to ensure a better experience for their patrons in the future.

Only one dessert offered Kunafa and it was a dud. The cheese is of poor quality. The buffet includes no soup, fruit or cake.

I visit this restaurant several times but Im really disappointed with the food. I found a hard pieces in the Muhamara that hurt my teeth, I didnt hear sorry from the chef .

Staff is so rude. We tried to give suggestions about a dish that we did not touch, but a man told us this is how we do it, youre welcome to walk in next time and order something else. Very very very bad experience, will never try it again. When payin 110 total for food, the least is to get out satisfied instead of just getting rude service. We ordered a tawook and vegetable dish, which came with a manzala dish with chicken pieces. We didnt eat because it wasnt the dish we wanted, even in... A working girl said, This is a plate of moussaqa.

I had an extremely unpleasant experience at Alhalabi Restaurant. During our meal, we found something hard in our food that hurt our teeth badly. When we informed the staff about this issue, they showed no concern at all. Not only did they fail to apologize, but they also didnt offer to change the dish or provide any kind of compensation. The lack of care and basic customer service was shocking. This kind of negligence and indifference is unacceptable in any restaurant. I strongly advise against dining here. There are plenty of other restaurants where you will be treated with the respect and care that every customer deserves.

Good food and service. The thing that I didnt like is when paying, cost in cash is different than credit. Credit payments is 3% higher. So basically they dont want to pay the credit card fee. Never seen that especially in a restaurant with such a size

Very friendly and attentive staff. An extensive menu and buffet on Friday to Sunday. We ordered the 2 stick kafta platter and ground chicken skewer platter. Food arrived quickly, with generous portions. Thebmewts were tender and nicely seasoned with classic Arab salad, beautiful tender rice, pickles, toum, grilled tomato and onion, the most amazing smooth hummus and toasted season pita on top. Fresh pita slices are also provided. The food is amazing, very fresh and wonderfully spiced, so full of flavour. Prices are very reasonable. We will visit for the buffet next time.

The place is way overpriced & the service is so poor. It was for an iftar in Ramadan. We ordered the mix grill platter. The chops were so small & over grilled wz a lot of rice & little of grill. Side dishes (hummus & garlic sauce) were so salty. Fried potato plate was already on the table before we show up. By the time Azan was pronounced. It was cold.

My family and I had a wonderful Easter lunch at Alhalabi. When you first enter the restaurant, you feel you have traveled to a different country. The ambience was fitting as well. We had two orders of the meter kebab platter with a bunch of extra sides for a family of 8 adults and 3 kids. The kids (and big kids!) enjoyed the sparklers on the platter that made it a little extra special. We enjoyed the food immensely and had some leftovers to bring home. This was our first visit and will definitely not be our last :)

I will try and fail to keep this short. I also made sure, that Ive told everyone that I personally know to avoid visiting this restaurant. Ordered 130$ worth of food for 2 people. Bbq Chicken and Lamb actually tasted very good however everything else like the rice, the salad, soup, kebeh, homous were borderline inedible. Servers didnt look too happy about working at ftour hours, so service was none existent. All of this would be okay if I havent been sick with food poisoning for 2 days now. The last time I felt like this is when I ate in Lebanon and got sick there from having tabouleh. 0/10 will never return

Came for Eid, last minute without reservation and they still managed to seat us despite being packed. The food was beyond amazing, everything was delicious and there is such a wide variety of food. The atmosphere was incredible as well, beautiful traditional decor. They even have a live musician play the oud and sing. The service was great as well. Would highly recommend!

Amazing buffet dinner besides Ala carte, loved the tasty food and variety. A must visit place if you love Syrian food. Service is fantastic with live musical performance in the background, it is worth the price. Vegetarian options: If you order Ala carte, you can get a choice of vegetarian options. Parking: It could be packed at times and you would find it hard to park.

Food was ok. Restaurant wasn t the cleanest. There was hair on my table that I noticed as we were seated. Little interaction with staff. Authentic Halabi food is delicious, but this restaurant missed the mark.

went to this restaurant and ordered a plate of kebab with juice, and I was surprised with the prices. Their prices are expensive. I did not find a restaurant at this level that expensive, although the Iranian, Afghan and Iraqi restaurants have very delicious food, but the prices there are 40% cheaper. The closest to an authentic Syrian, Aleppo cousin you can get in Ottawa. Home cooking like taste, specialty dishes not found in any other places and generous amounts. Very dedicated staff to provide the best service. Keeping getting better every day.

The food is very delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful, especially since they represent the customs of their beautiful country and their food is more than wonderful, but there is a note that the prices have become expensive, so be careful. The last visit I went with my young daughter and I was surprised by the bill over a hundred dollars. I did not like that.

Bad, bad service I try the weekend buffet. Food was not great. The buffet did not have dessert. Options are plenty yes, but not worth the price. Options are mostly starters, salad, and rice. Charcoal BBQ was not an option, you had to buy extra. Food was cold and rice was tasteless and dry. As for the service, it was horrible. One of the best restaurants in Ottawa with great customer service, exciting and traditional atmosphere that makes you feel as though you are in the Middle East, and of course delicious mouth watering food that is brought to you like you are royalty! Been going there for years and have always left with smiles and leftovers to enjoy! Highly recommended family restaurant that will leave you looking forward to the next time! We reserved a table for a special event but were given a very disappointing service, if not rude. The food was all put on the table at the same time in huge plates ,which makes the table very crowded and narrow. The waiters barely come back and it is very difficult to get their attention. After 8:30 the waiters were in a hurry to clean the table. We had to ask for serving spoons, and every time something was missing. A glass, a fork etc. To finish, they almost shoved us out as the closing time was approaching. We felt unrespected. We will never go again.

We wanted to give this restaurant another chance but only got even more disappointed by the service. We had guests and didn t feel much acknowledged. Once the food is on the table, it becomes very crowded and the waiters do not come to try to take away empty dishes. There s always something missing, especially serving cutlery, glasses etc. It is hard to get their attention. The waiter dropped a plate of soup on one of the guests and got it all on his coat, pants and sweater etc. He wasn t bothered much about it, when he should have been responsible for the dry clean. They act as if they are doing clients a favour.

It s the best restaurant for iftar

Don t ignore the negative reviews and AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I read negative reviews before going and was worried but since but we were struggling to find a place for iftar and called 2 hours beforehand to reserve. Initially, I was glad they would accommodate us on short notice given these restaurants are typically busy during Ramadan. We were told to place the order via phone before arriving to the restaurant. I should mention that the person who took the order on the phone kept suggesting to add more things to the order. It was a bit uncomfy but for this reason we also added tea & kunafeh ( more on that catastrophe later.) Once we arrived ( early by 10 mins), the food was already on the table. The food is SUPER overpriced for what you get. Those grape leaves are a crime for $17 because any non-middle eastern person can make something like that if not better. The meat wasn t very tender and portion size was quite small for the price. The rice tasted like it was 2nd day warmed up. Cutlery was always missing. The plates looked dirty and cheap. I didn t go to the bathroom but a male in our party went and said it was super dirty. It makes you wonder how the kitchen would be. After the dinner, we were served the tea and kunafeh. The kunafeh looked odd but I didn t want to judge it just on looks so we decided to take a bite. It was DISGUSTING. The cheese was not cooked right. It was salty and super oily like it was made with vegetable oil. It was $10 a piece and we all took one bite. Once we went to pay, we mentioned how bad the kunafeh was and there was nothing done to rectify this. They never apologized. They never removed it from the bill. We paid $200 for the worst dining experience in Ottawa. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere anywhere but here!!!!

The food was incredible! We got the one-meter kebab platter and it was actually a lot better than the first time we came here which was in March last year. It was juicy and spiced to perfection. The buffet looked very inviting as well but we did not partake this time. My partner had the lamb Mandi which was extremely tender and tasty. We will definitely come back!

Had the weekend buffet ($35), which was way overpriced for the items served. Menu included mostly salads, rice (cold), and very few meat choices. No bbq or kababs. No desserts. While the staff and ambiance is nice, the food itself was not at all worth it.

Unfortunately, I crashed into the restaurant, so we tried the buffet. I wont talk about the old food, but the ugliest thing was the cleanliness of the bathrooms. If the bathrooms are like this, then what about the kitchen? Unfortunately.

Very nice restaurant and ambiance. While the presentation was 5 star the kabob meats were overcooked and much smaller than normal size kabobs. The side dishes (hummus, fries) were very overpriced including $7 for a glass of mango juice. Once again ambiance was great and service and staff were excellent. Unfortunately, just overpriced!! Buffet may be a better deal.

We were really excited to try this restaurant for the first time. While the ambiance and service was good, the food was sub standard for the price we paid. We were encouraged to try their dinner buffet as there was more varieties available. It was cold and dried up food. It was very disappointing! We ordered Kunafe for dessert. It was dried up cold cheese and inedible. For someone who has dined at some the best Middle Eastern restaurants in Toronto- today s experience was disappointing at this restaurant. Not going back again and not recommending to anyone.

I recently dined at Halabi and regrettably, my experience was far from satisfactory. To begin, the food , was lukewarm and lacked the freshness and flavor one would expect from a place like this.The service left a lot to be desired. Our server seemed overwhelmed and inattentive, making it challenging to get our orders and requests across.I understand that every restaurant can have off days, but my experience at Halabi was disappointing, to say the least. I hope they can work on improving their service and food quality. In the end, I would think twice before returning or recommending this restaurant to others.

I went there with my family for Saturday buffet. And I am writing the review behalf of my family members. Firstly, the parking area in front of the restaurant was pretty dirty. If you are very particular about cleanliness then it might be a turn off for you and this will be your last visit. Now if I talk about the restaurants interior, it was very cozy, the lighting, environment was festive. However I felt like the seating arrangements were not comfortable at all. If you have big family and need ten chairs then you need to seat in a place where four tables are back to back. So basically it was too much crowded and uncomfortable. But I have to admit the staff were very nice. They were taking good care of everyone. Made sure to provide water and other necessities were always present in our able. Now comes the food. I would give it 8 out 10. Though we were from different backgrounds we liked the Syrian cuisine. Only downside is the most delicious items were not getting refilled quickly. You have to wait at least 40 min to get refills for popular items. So make sure you have enough time to spare. Also if you have a sweet tooth then this buffet is not for you. Because they dont serve any dessert. The only dessert was fruit salad(if you consider it as dessert). But the main courses were more.

The servers were great but the buffet was terrible. The food was cold and tasteless and the shrimp was frozen still and there was only fruit salad with cucumbers in it for dessert only. The prices are high and coffee and juice was expensive. I do not recommend this place until they get rid of the buffet.

Food is okay, but less than our expectations based on the advertising, hype and spotlight. The dining hall is of poor quality. The seats and tables are of a very cheap standard. The place was crowded, as the tables were packed together, making it difficult to move. Despite all these disappointments, the surprising thing was that the prices were very high compared to the level of food, place, and service

everything was amazing

if i can give 0 stars i would ..... the rice is clearly warmed ...made the day before ...and u know how it taste a rice from yesterrday ...the kebah is boiled in water and dipped in almost fresh warmed laban...although when i called to prder i explained that we were disappointed last time and asked pls ifvthe dishes are made yesterday and u will just warm them like last time ...tell us to change our order ...so u dont loose costumer...they insisted it s fresh ..but it was a disaster..I ADVISE U DONT ORDER FOR TAKE OUT ...and also the kebab is horible either in restaurant or take away

Went with a party of 5 to try the weekend buffet. Food was not great. The buffet did not have dessert. Options are plenty yes, but not worth the price. Options are mostly starters, salad, and rice. Charcoal BBQ was not an option, you had to buy extra. Food was cold and rice was tasteless and dry. As for the service, it was horrible. Plates were piling up on the table with no one to collect them. Went to talk to the owner to provide my feedback, rather than accepting my feedback, we ended up having a useless back and forth arguments about that I dont understand what I am talking about. They dont really care about what you say, they just want your money. Very cheap owners and the buffet is expensive. As for the atmosphere, the furniture is old, chairs are not comfortable and not adjusted to the height of the tables. Everything is colored red makes you feel not welcomed. We were assigned a table that was very tight. We kept pushing each other as we eat. Overall, this was my worst dinner place to visit in Ottawa! Thank you for nothing

This is the third time we visited the restaurant. Everything was as we expected, the food has a great different taste and good service.

The buffet sucks. Not worth it!

An example of how poor staff can ruin the whole experience of a restaurant. Been a few times, food is always great. Made a large order for a wedding dinner. Front end staff initially wanted to charge me more than the agreed upon price. Owner then corrects him before payment. After payment ( I was in a hurry) staff supposed to give me few dollars in change. He gives me 1/4 of what he owes me (perhaps kept the rest as a tip for himself), all in nickels, then laughs at me as Im trying to put the cluster of nickels away and while telling me dont leave, you forgot your food as Im still standing infront of him fumbling with all the coins he gave me. I feel bad for the owner.

New Review in Mid November 2023: I went for Saturday and Sunday Buffet at the restaurant; I called for reservations and it was indeed reserved for us. Service was excellent!!! I think previous review was brought to the attention of the owner; I am very pleased with the change; that why reviews are so important. Food was delicious, I loved the chicken fries, all the items were delicious, some items were average but this is excepted when it s buffet so it s alright. I want to thank the server for the entertainment; make sure the check the videos. I want to thank the owner for brought change and what a result. Previous review back in early 2023: Reservation issues!! Before talking about food I want to complain about the reservation system on that restaurant; One Sunday afternoon we call the restaurant and asked that do we need to make a reservation for dinner time; we were told we don t need to make any reservations; however upon arrival we found that place was fully booked. We arrived around 6:30pm and we were told that around 7:30pm they can provide us seats. We waited outside and went in 7:25pm and found out the group that supposed to arrive after 7:30pm was given preference over us and were seated!!!! We waited another 20 minutes more; this is very inconvenient as we had kids with us and we got very late. Now, talking about foods. Foods are good and nice presentation, plus it s a high end price for sure; good part is they do maintain the quality of foods. Lamb Mandy was delicious and I would highly recommend. The French fries were not so good as other Arabian restaurants. Salads were average but fresh so be mindful before ordering. Mixed platter was very satisfactory as the meats were tender and flavourful. Apart from the reservation mess the whole experience was very pleasant and enjoyable.

The food was so delicious

There has been so many changes since my last review/visit of this restro and not all of them look good. This time, ordered a family platter and other side dishes, noticed that the portion size isn t fair to the money they charge and the quality of food lowered since my last visit. Kebabs weren t done well, so were chewy. Food was cold by the time they serve it. Service wasn t good either called on the server couple of times and they were reluctant to the guests and the wait time was long! Environment and decoration is nice and cozy.
