1590 Walkley Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 6P4, Canada
Informal Thai eatery with traditional decor & elephant symbols serving a range of well-known dishes.
The red, yellow and green curry was phenomenal. I'd pass on the general tao although still good. The spring rolls that were included were very good. Pad thai is one of thr best!
A great place with nice atmosphere and amazing service. We enjoyed every dish we ordered. Will definitely come back and would highly recommend!
It is a hidden Thai gem. Small authentic Thai food. You the décoré the place all offer a unique experience. The prices are really good the food is amazing. The service is good too. It is small you better reserve in advance. It is off walkley rd in a small plaza kinda hidden. 18 min from downtown Ottawa. I recommend this place.
This is the worst Thai restaurant I've ever ordered from! The pad thai tasted like ketchup with soggy noodles and chicken. The pad khing (beef stir-fry) was drenched in an oily sauce much like a soup (see picture of the sauce that we separated from the plate). The worst part was the rice, it was so sticky that you could barely take a spoon out of it and the smell was awful, smelled like bad breath. Mind you that I never write bad reviews on restaurants, specially during COVID!
Unfortunately pad Thai was very sweet, and noodles were a little raw still. However, the shrimp inside was well cooked. Shrimp spring roll was very tiny, just has 1 shrimp each and no other filling. Perhaps other dishes they offer are better.
I would say this is my favourite dine in Thai restaurant in Ottawa. Their pad thai and spring rolls are fantastic ! - and they definitely go that extra mile by putting the vegetables cut like flowers on the plates. Nice touch !
Great experience I had this day I came in a late noon on a weekday where atmosphere is quiet. Staff are great and polite. Service is fast as we didn’t wait too much after ordering. I really enjoyed my pineapple fried rice, which I ordered by looking at the photos on the menu and on Google Maps. This restaurant really deserves to be recommended by Google Maps, which I used it to find this restaurant.
Attentive and helpful staff. Beautiful atmosphere, including relaxing background music. Delicious and plentiful food. Pictured is a photo of my Pad See Yew, with a special request of double the egg. It was tasty. My companion ordered a chicken Pad Thai and from my taste of it, it was fabulous!
Surprisingly good
Canceled order on me 30 mins after I placed it
Their green curry is absolutely incredible. Great spices, creamy and flavourful.
Was great And fast . Food
Delivery order So we ordered combo plate 1 and a pad Thai and I swear there is ketchup in the pad Thai its way to sweet and tangy like ketchup. The fried rice was great same with the general two.
The food is too sweet. I think they put too much sugar in everything. Curry tastes like it has ketchup in it... Not spicy. Hot and sour soup is just Sweet N Sweet Soup...
Amazing place. Feels like you re in Thailand Excellent customer service. Best summer rolls I ve ever had Food : 5/5
First time eating here and all I can say I will comeback for more! Really good food! Fried rice, pad thai and everything is just really well cooked!! Service is good and the lady was really attentive was very pleasant. The place has such a quiet ambiance so I really enjoyed the eating here.
I love this place, I used to go every other week but been away for more than a month. I love the food, but one recommendation, if you are not a hot sauce fan always ask them not to add any hot spices because you will be on fire
We ordered about $75 worth of food for takeout (pickup). The order was ready within 30 minutes of calling it in. The portions for the chicken satay were generous, but the chicken was bland on its own and the peanut sauce tasted and smelled like stale peanut oil. The deep-fried shrimp spring rolls were delicious but overpriced for the 4 we received. The mixed veggies in oyster sauce consisted of overcooked, yellowing broccoli with an abundance of steamed white mushrooms and a few slices of carrot; the sauce was watered down and bland. The marinated crispy duck with veggies in chefs special sauce was actually just the same mixed veggies in oyster sauce, with small bits of duck jerky in a separate container. We received 6 complimentary spring rolls, which were half the size of your average spring roll and filled mostly with vermicelli. The yellow curry was the best-tasting dish overall, though it was quite sweet. The curry consisted of very thinly sliced strips of chicken and small potato pieces, and came in a 16oz container. Based on other reviews, this is a place for dining in. I would not recommend takeout.
Always a favorite. Consistently good food with attentive service. Vegetarian options: Many options for vegetarians. Food : 5/5 |
We are elderly people and we often go in a group of eight for launch. This place offers very tasty thai dishes in many varieties and at reasonable prices. Make sure you go on time and watch the hours for your visit. You can always ask for spicy/moderate or less and enjoy your food. The presentation is good.
This is not Thai food. The balance and flavour is completely off. It tasted like an amateur tried to make Thai dishes but didn t use the correct ingredients.
I recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting a restaurant that was unexpectedly closed during its regular hours. The anticipation of trying their acclaimed dishes quickly turned into frustration as I stood outside the locked doors. The lack of communication or a notice about the closure left me and other potential patrons bewildered. It s disappointing when a restaurant fails to uphold its commitment to its operating hours, causing inconvenience and dashed culinary hopes.
Always high quality food. Ive been many times and never disappointed. Presentation is amazingly well thought out.
best Thai food in Ottawa, hands down. I have been going to this restaurant for years!!!!
Food and service was spectacular! They were closed for lunch on Saturday but the owner still allowed us in to have a gorgeous meal! I recommend Aiyara to anyone who likes the authentic Thai experience!
Such good value, taste, and price. Very friendly staff that are always attentive. I usually go 1-2 times a week for lunch for Their lunch combo. Can be in and out within 30 minutes! Thanks for a great lunch everytime
Coconut curry with sticky rice is my go to order. The sweet and sour soup is great along with the chicken satay and peanut sauce.
This place is amazing. Consistent food for almost 20 years now. Food
I have been ordering food at Aiyara for 6 years now and they have never failed me yet. Delicious!
Vegetarian options: The fried tofu is beyond delicious. Food
Ok. Great price, meal was good. Cant put my finger on it but something was lacking. Food
The yellow curry is fantastic!
This is the best Thai red curry Ive had since I went to Thailand. It was mind blowing!
My wife and I had a lovely lunch. Food looks as good as it tastes. Highly recommended
Great atmosphere and peaceful eating experience. Food was amazing! I had the green curry.
What a great Thai place to go.Very clean .Friendly service and I enjoyed my red curry ,my husband had the green curry and that was excellent, too
A hidden gem. The best Thai food in Ottawa. Excellent prices and generous portion sizes.
Delicious food, especially the yellow curry with tofu and the cashew chicken.
The food here is delicious. I regularly eat lunch here, and my favorite dish is green curry chicken. It is by far one of the best to be found in the city. The service is good, and the servers are attentive and kind. The place itself would benefit from an uplift.
Not sure if I got what I ordered but my pineapple stir fry had no pineapple and tasted pretty bland. Maybe some the other dishes are better but this one wasnt great.
I was there at 4pm but the restaurant was empty. I waited for five minutes, and finally had to knock on the kitchen door to get some attention. The food was ready in 10 minutes. The food was good, but bland.
The yellow curry was the most delicious and flavorful yellow curry I ve ever tried. And the Por Pia Jay spring rolls were perfectly crispy and delicious - I could have eaten 100. It was also the perfect ambiance for excellent conversation with my friend. The staff let us have space while also ensuring we had everything we needed. The jasmine tea paired so well with the food! An excellent surprise to have found this place by chance on Google Maps. Will return!
Some of the BEST Thai food around! Pad Thai can be skipped here I m there is something off with the recipe. everything else (spring rolls, yellow curry, pineapple cashew rice) is too notch!
This is a fantastic hidden gem. The dine in is quiet and intimate but the staff is friendly and warm. The pineapple fried rice is divine and served in a pineapple. You will have left overs which won t last very long. The food is definitely worth a trip
Amazing food and the service is friendly and fast. The value for the quality and quantity is unmatched. Definitely worth a try if you love Thai food and are in the area.
the best Thai restaurant in town
Hands down my favourite Thai place. Been going here about 14+ years and has never been bad. So glad to be able to share this treasure with my family now who thankfully all love it too. Thank you for being such a consistent and amazing place to dine or takeout from.
One of my favourite Thai places . Pad kee mao with tofu is delicious and the tofu tod is as well. Service is awesome. Presentation is unexpected with carved vegetables on your plate in the shape of flowers or animals! Love that!! Don t let the unassuming exterior throw you off!
Portion is alright. Taste is good. Environment is calm.
The yellow curry and steamed rice were good. The Pad Thai was awful. It tasted like tomato ketchup and the noodles were soggy. I was going to give 3 stars but then I read reviews from >2 years ago where the same issues were reported and obviously havent been addressed. Come on Aiyara! Get your noodles right!
This is an $18 Curry . Seriously why would you not value peoples money to that extent . So disappointing . Unfortunately ordered through skip so not much I can do now . Very disappointing .
Very pleasant service and very tasty food. The dishes and cutlery all have distinctive elephant motifs! We enjoyed our mother/daughter dinner. Dietary restrictions: Curry was gluten free
Very pleased with this new discovery. Nice decor and love how the dishes and utensils are all elephants themed. Very good service, food served quickly, tasting amazing, generous portions. Will go back again!
The food is good, but they should give clients a proper pick up time instead of giving them an unrealistic time. Each time I order and pick up myself I always end up waiting an extra 10-15 minutes for my order.
Nice place, great food and awesome value. Ordered some after not living in the area for memories of yummy food. Nice to see the portions have remained big, full of meat (not like cheaper places). Keep it up! :)
I like this place, very consistent and delicious!
i like yellow curry - steph curry likes new palm companion phone- *not available in Canada The Pad Thai is crazy bad???? What is it? Yellow Curry great - Pad Thai yuck!!! I had to take away a star --- how can ya screw up Thai Pad?????
Orders from here in the evening not too long ago and was disappointed by the general Tao. It tasted like ketchup and was extremely soggy. Tasted sour. The fried rice was okay looked like white rice with a sprinkle of soy sauce. I liked the yellow chicken curry though. Not what I was expecting as I was recommended this place. Might give it a chance in the future or wait until inside dining is reopened.
I found pubic hair in my spring rolls five stars though
My first time very good I will go again for sure and the food so delicious and the woman she served so friendly
Delicious, amazing Thai food!!!! Lunch menu is a great portion and price. Highly recommend.
Ordered a range of curries, including Pa-Nang, Gaeng Garee Gai (yellow) and Gaeng Keaw Wan (green) curries. All were very tasty. Tom Yung Goom and Tom Kha Gai soups were simple and flavourful. The place is small and nicely decorated. A pleasant environment and the service very friendly. Strongly recommend! There is a lot of shrimp on the menu and in the kitchen, so people with allergies should be aware they will be exposed.
Loved all the elephant decor! Enjoyed a delicious yellow chicken curry with potato. Clean and comfortable.
Amazing food, great selection on the menu. Phenomenal service and prices. Will definitely be back again. Thank you
This is my favourite Thai restaurant in Ottawa. Not only are the staff incredibly nice, but they are quick too. The Pad Thai and spring rolls have to be at the top of my list.
Excellent cuisine. Very tasty and they have generous portions.
This place hasnt been the same since they changed ownership
Great food and colorful decor and very clean place.
A mixed review of this place The portions are generous , we had plenty to take home after The pad Thai was very average , havent tasted anything like this before The satay skewers and summer rolls also lacking flavour The Thai green was good with huge portions of meat Seemed reasonable for Ottawa but wouldnt hurry back
We love this place and always enjoy the food. I usually have curry and rice but had sauteed veggies instead. Great mix of spices and good serving size. I tried the yellow curry with tofu that hubby had and it was delicious!
I ordered delivery from here on Skip. The restaurant forgot to include one of the items. I get it; mistakes happen, but when I phoned in the omission, the lady on the other end of the phone was rude. She offered no apology and told me that I could come to the restaurant to pick up the rest of my order. After a bit of back and forth, she told me the chef could drive it to my home after he finishes his shift tonight, but that there was nothing else they could do. Poor customer service aside, the food I did receive was just mediocre.
Green curry is very spicy Pad thai is a bit hard Tom Yum soup is not rich enough There is no wine list or beverage list provided. I don t know if it is not available at noon. Probably wont visit again. Service is okay, food is served and water is refilled very quickly
Easily in the top three Thai restaurants in Ottawa, plus sometimes has awesome promotions like 6 free spring rolls with a $40 order. I d place Aiyara alongside Silver Spoon and Pinn-To. Only note is that white folk may want to ask for slightly milder curries, their heat level tends towards the higher end. Their #17 mushroom and chicken with coconut milk soup deserves special mention by far the best I ve had in all my years of Thai eating.
We ordered spring rolls, pad thai and green curry. The curry was ok but more hot than flavourful. The pad thai was possibly the worst I have ever had. It was DRENCHED in a sauce that was only vaguely reminiscent of Thai flavours. It was so acidic, I could not eat it. The spring rolls were flavourless and apparently so hot (with oil) when they were put in the Styrofoam container that they singed holes in the bottom of it... Cannot recommend.
Wonderful food, generous portions!
Ordered takeout and unfortunately the food was not something I could recommend. The Pad Thai and restaurant specialty salmon dish were both too sweet and tasted like they contained ketchup. The salmon had a strong smell which was almost unappetizing. This was surprising since this place has so many positive reviews.
My partner and I ordered from here last night and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The red curry was awesome and only slightly spicy, and the yellow curry was just as delicious! We also got fried rice which was flavourful and fluffy, as well as spring rolls which we also really enjoyed. Overall would totally recommend!
Really excellent food and fantastic customer service. Yesterday was my second time ordering food from Aiyara but my first take out order. Their red curry is easily one of my favorites. You can tell the people who work there really care about their business. Will happily order again.
Ordered from Uber eats. Pretty bad food. Really really disappointed. Pad Thai was full of ketchup. Fried rice tastes stale and old. Pretty big portion but its just more things I cant even eat.
Good
Unfortunately I can t give a good review. The pad thai noodles are mushy and it tastes like they use ketchup for the sauce.
Best Thai restaurant in Ottawa. The food is delicious, authentic and always has a lovely presentation. Great choice for a date night or a dinner with company youre looking to impress.
Quite disappointing. Pad Thai and salmon dishes both tasted mainly of ketchup.
Ive only had great food here. Have been going for years. I usually have pad thai or the yellow curry. Delicious!
One of the better chicken satays I ve had (lots of meat, decent peanut sauce) but not a fan of the pad Thai (like others have said, tastes like ketchup) or Tom kha soup. Reasonably priced but overall not my favorite Thai in Ottawa.
This is not authenticate that food. Kitchen staff are all Chinese cooking Thai food. Not good at all. Its souch better at Green Payaya
Great food, big portions, quick and pleasant service, consistent quality. Our go to place for Thai takeout.
Nice neighbourhood restaurant. Food is delicious portions are good but not very good options for vegans yet. Pricing feels a little high for a lunch menu (which is when i went). Worth a revisit for an evening meal.
Very nice. Never try never know. No.57 in the menu is the best trust me.
Very good place for thai food.
Amazing curry! Every time I go there feeling great pleasure!
Hi everyone! I just went to Aiyara, the elephant-centric nourishment haven. There was even postage too.
One of the best thai food places in Ottawa. The chicken fried rice is amazing. Delivery is always prompt and friendly.
Best thai food in Ontario!!
Do not order on the phone. The lady who took order did not understand what my husband said very well.I think someone else should take orders. He tried to tell her our adress but the lady said could not find our adress on her PC. We wanted ask to deliver food, but we gave up and went to pick it up. My husband ordered red curry, it was really delicious and he was very satisfied. But at the end he found something strange in his mouth and it was a plastic tag. I have no idea why the plastic in the food. I was disappointed, caz meal was great. Kitchen staffs have to be more careful. I am glad my husband notice it before go into his stomach.
Good food at a reasonable price.
Great food. Very friendly service .
Good food, excellent service and priced just right.
Fantastic Thai! Was very impressed.
Amazing food!
Very good food at a very good price.
I ordered a non-spicy meal and it was delicious. Clean, nice decor, friendly, authentic.
I have eaten there twice. Had diarrhea twice.
Excellent service and great food
We love the food there!
Went once with my family, the food was ordinarily and taste more chinese than thai. I had the misfortune to forget my expensive Burberry jacket on the back of the chair, although the restaurant was empty, I returned to ask for my forgotten jacket and they claimed to my surprise that they didnt find anything. I will never set my feet back in this place..
This isnt Thai food. Beware unless you feel like chinese food in a thai restaurant. No Thai flavors at all.
Amazing food...our new go-to restaurant for anything Thai. The pineapple/cashew dish is a must, but the green (and yellow) chicken curries are equally great. Ask the manager/owner anything about the food - she is very friendly and informative.
Best Thai in Ottawa!! When I lived here this was a weekly regular spot for me. The staff are friendly, courteous, and make sure you have a great experience. The only thing that beats the service is the food. It smells amazing and before you even see it your mouth begins to water. When you see it you are presented with a work of art which makes you feel bad you are going to ruin for a moment but immediately disappears once you take your first bite. Aiyara is and always will be my go to place in Ottawa.
Fast service, adult meal size portions at a great price point!
Absolutely the best Thai place in Ottawa
Little gem on Walkley. So good.
Quality thai food. A bit pricey but that seems to be the norm for most thai places
The food is amazing! Since I ve been introduced to Iyara, it s this chef s favourite food in Ottawa of any nations specialties. They have a very tasteful dining room and feature elephant art and decor...Iyara means elephant the owner so gracefully explained to us. Just had it tonight and for $50 for two to eat a lot with a doggy bag, I can afford to go back soon. Love love love Iyara
Excellent food but a bit expensive.
Good spot, but like others have noted the pad Thai has a distinct tomato paste kind of taste. Other than that the pineapple rice was good (pictured) as well as the rice rolls.
One of my favourite Thai restaurants in the city. Food is consistently good here.
Ive tried nearly every Thai restaurant in Ottawa and this place was fantastic. Unfortunately Singha Thai (Merivale) still holds first place for me but it closed 6 months ago so this is as close as it gets. Highly recommend it if you like traditional Thai food.
Great place to eat! Excellent service, beautiful decorations and amazing food, I drive an hour into the city to eat here!
Amazing food. I mostly do take out and its always ready in less than 15 minutes and piping hot! Portions are really big too. Their takeout containers are reusable and microwave friendly which is a nice plus. Highly recommend!
Delicious food, attentive service.
A staple in the neighbourhood. Excellent service, great food.
Really good eats. Very imaginative food sculptures of the garnish variety. Service is OK, but they seem under staffed. Small restaurant, decent ambiance, not the greatest location, but the variety and quality of Thai dishes is superb.
Very good
Excellent food, service, and decor
Good food great service.
Love their food , I always pay a visit every time I am in Ottawa.
It was good, I need to go again to cement a real oppinion, but the first time was more than decent.
Beautiful decor, peaceful atmosphere, ordered Summer Rolls, General Tao chicken and Chicken Pa Neng with a side of rice. The Pa Neng was so flavorful, and the Summer Rolls were so fresh, definitely worth a small detour if youre looking for a Thai dinner experience.
A hidden jewel in Ottawa south! Excellent food and service. Artistic plates.
Nice food, nice service! It is worth going!
tasty!
Speechless, they are not joking when they say fine thia! Ordered they House special Duck, OMG! Green bean garlic and beef, off the charts in flavor when paired with Jasmine rice! Vegetarian dish spicy amazing. Full recommendations!
Amazon decoration for food, prices decent, great flavours.
Always delicious food and great service!
Hidden gem! So delicious, great service, very reasonable prices
Good food. Pleasant people. A little over-priced.
We have ordered from this restaurant more than any other in the city. We have had almost every item they have available on the menu and, with the exception of the fish dishes which did not work when delivered, it has all exceeded our expectations.
We order 3 course meals, two chicken and one shrimp. After they explain they were to busy for delivery, pickup was the only option. First, the restaurant was almost empty, not even close being busy. Second, the chicken pad thai lack flavor and was soak in cooking oil and tomato sauce type. The stir fried didnt even had flavour and they gave shrimp, when ask for chicken. The cuisines lack actually Thai flavors and miss they mark.
Absolutely delicious and great service
Nice place for lunch. Good food. Good service. Ordered shrimps, nice portions. Will try again
Great food
Amazing food and great/quick service.
To all who read this...DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE!!! We read the review on Yelp, Zomato and Google, then checked out their online menu prices which is misleading and outdated. We decided to call and find out if their prices had changed, since it seems to be a common practice by Ottawa restaurants to never update their online prices. When the guy said their dinner size Green Curry Chicken was $16, I was ready to say thanks but no thanks (Because in Toronto and Kingston most regular orders for this dish, as of September 2017, usually cost $10 - $12) and then the guy said oh its a big order--enough for 2 people and that hed throw in a big order of rice, which is $2, for free since its our first time ordering. So we decided to give it a go and drove for 25 minutes cautiously optimistic that we would get what we were promised. When we arrived, I decided to open the bag as my spouse was paying. Low and behold the owner had lied!!!! The $16 portion was in a small container which was the equivalency of a small wonton soup size...and he claimed that this was enough for 2 persons. This kind of deceitful practice is disgusting for Ottawa. There should be a law to fine restauranteurs that steal and cheat from patrons. Of course we returned the crappy portion back and demanded our money back. But I think what was most rude was that we hadnt realized the change didnt all fall back on her hand and $0.05 cents was still in my spouses hand when she handed his bill back to him, so the waitress proceeded to loudly claim (so that those all in the restaurant could hear and assume the worst) that we owed her $0.05 cents...as if we were deliberately trying to steal that pitiful change from her and lol as if that could buy anything in this day and age. IF I COULD, I WOULD RATE THIS PLACE -5!!! No matter how good the food may taste, any restaurant that gives you a wonton soup sized order for this dish and charges $16 is a thief. Why do people in Ottawa allow themselves to be price gouged??? Dont you all realize that you are enabling these restaurant owners to Cheat You!! Anyone who pays for these inflated prices knowingly is simply a dumb Chump!!! I have first hand experience in the restaurant industry. Ottawa does not pay higher prices for groceries and supplies. They are close to the Montreal wholesale distribution centre. Ottawa also does not pay higher rent per square footage, nor do they pay more than the bigger cities for their property taxes/values. BE VOCAL AND HELP STOP THE PRICE GOUGING/PRICE FIXING BY OTTAWA RESTAURANTEURS! Even Vancouver is cheaper than Ottawa.
Called and placed an order, 30 min later I am called saying they cant deliver to me and they would like me to pick it up.
I would give an extra star if i could have gotten a non meat curry lunch option. I had to order the dinner curry option with an order of rice but no soup.
Tasty green curry.
Excellent thai food and very quick service.
The pad Thai tasted like ketchup but the other dishes were really good, really good service too. When you ask for not spicy it really is not spicy!
Whatch out for the heat! Great stuff.
Spicy Thai food
Everytime food are tasty and delicious !
Good food. Not to busy. Small place. Good attention to their presentation.
