Long-running, family-owned fixture with a homey vibe providing Thai standards to eat in or take out.
Excellent Thai food. Ordered soup and pad Thai - quality of both was wonderful. Got takeaway this visit - service and experience was really good.
Very small portions and expensive. I honestly do not recommend this place. It's not worth it.
I used to eat here regularly years ago and it was good. I ordered take out last night and it was outrageously overpriced! Over a hundred dollars! The food was not thai quality but more like chinese food. Each dish I ordered looked the same. The vegetables and meat were cut the same for each dish and the only difference was the sauce. The pad thai didn't taste like tamarind. It was a heaping lump stuck together. I cook thai food regularly so I know my ingredients. I won't go back ever and believe it's now new owners. Each dish tasted almost the same and lacked the authentic flavors. What a waste of hard earned money!
$20 for curry WITHOUT RICE. They charge you another $3.50 for rice. This portion is insanely small, and my takeout order didn’t even come with utensils or napkins. I feel scammed. This is the cheapest restaurant I have experienced in Ottawa. Look at photos to see how small portion is, WITHOUT RICE. This portion should be much larger for $20. Do not go here.
We ordered two orders of pad Thai. First time ordering here. Each order was $20 for a total of $45 dollars with tax. When we walked home and opened the order we were shocked. The portion was that you would find in a supermarket frozen machelina’s (see photo). Because of our disappointment we hoped to get a refund and eat elsewhere. the woman working was very rude, visibly irate and personally offended by our dissatisfaction and refund request. She refused to refund the purchase. We gave our orders to some homeless people and ate in at a restaurant near by. Be forewarned, the food here is less than acceptable (from our limited experience) and the individual working was hostile. Edit: went across the street and had a large Texas plate of nachos from lone star for $20.99…
I went to Bangkok Thai Garden Restaurant in ByWard Market for the first time and I was blown away! The chicken pad thai had the perfect mix of flavours, and the portion of the beef salad was ideal. I also really enjoyed the shrimp curry but you cannot leave without trying the green papaya salad - it has the right amount of spices! It’s a great spot for a cozy mid day meal or late night eats, and an absolute staple in downtown Ottawa.
I don't normally leave bad reviews, but I can't help it - this place was unbelievably overpriced for the quantity of food, about half the size of what you could get for that price at other places of the same quality. I've seen so many other reviews on here saying the same thing yet giving 4-star reviews?? SO misleading ugh. But trust me, save your money and get more food elsewhere
Would like to try again, but hesitant as I can get more quantity and similar quality of food for same price of $17 before tax and tips. Rice also wasn't included (rice isn't an expensive ingredient).
Its is closed permanently.
This place is no longer in business (but theyll still take your order and payment info online...). Zero stars.
Amazing service! Such amazing flavors and great food!
Zero people, money laundering operation
Never eat there I caution you. Food is way too overpriced and they dont serve fresh products. Its mostly from like a second hand Chinese grocery store SMH. Owners dont care about customers and their portion sizes are like mice bites. Your better off dining at a buffet to get full value for your bucks or elsewhere. Shame to this place.
Very spicy very good! Curry was great and pad Thai was a well done classic. Chicken was grilled perfect. Spring rolls were nice and crisp!
VERY small amount of food for $30! Not worth at all. Never will be there again!
Regret to share that this was not a good restaurant. The food was not well made. The curry tasted canned. The spice is ONLY crushed chilis. ...but its priced as fine dining which it is not. You do not get what you pay for. If they halved their prices I would still choose a different Thai restaurant in the area... or any other restaurant. My condolences to the owner.
Its delicious, but the quantity is small for the price.
Service was okay, problem began afterwards. When I looked at the menu, the prices were generally higher than other thai restaurants so I was expecting either higher quality food/ or larger portions. I was wrong. Pad Thai was very blend, and has the portion of childrens menu(I confirmed my opinion after reading the other reviews). I paid $22 plus tax for it but wasnt worth it at all. Restaurant has potential if they can resolve portion and blendness problems.
Lunch special super small portion and they don t seem to care - Thai curry flavour good but snack size
Dont go!!!! not worth your money and time. Server & owner are very rude Basically, if you complain, their excuses for serving garbage for food is, cost too expensive I get it with inflation n all. But serve what you are charging, for. Not charge more and give less.. they dont, deserve a 1 star, below 0, I would rate this place!!!!! So !!
Unfortunately I checked the review after we aat there. we paid $150 for 5 plates, and they werent even full... the potions hardly covered the bottom of the plate.
The food options are incredibly small. Like comical for how much it cost. Nothing wrong with the flavors, just comical portions.
The flavour was good. I enjoyed the actual food. But the portions are absolutely tiny. We got the dinner for 2 special. 60$, and there was barely enough food for one
trash place
Good food, good service, clean place. The portions are not huge, but if you want to become obese you can simply go to Lone Star, MacDonalds, etc.
Good food. Tiny portions and overpriced. Would not return.
We had a late dinner here and ordered the Curry BBQ Duck and the Spring Rolls appetizer. The taste of the curry was very flavorful, very good for curry. But the amount of duck meat was very little, not as expected for the price that they charged. With the price, we should have more of the duck meat. As for the spring rolls, in the menu it said that there were 4 spring rolls in one order. Yes it came 4 pieces, but they were very small, long and skinny. Each is only a little bit bigger as your finger. Sorry to say, we were not impressed, and will not come back to this place.
Ordered shrimp rice rolls, and a mild Pad Thai, and it was amazing. The order arrived within an hour of speaking with the restaurant.
Spent $80 today for 3 side dishes - they were full orders that were barely half the take out container s size. I m really shocked and disappointed with how small the portions were. Ordered 3 different dishes that really didn t leave room for me to say maybe it is just this order number going out to eat as a family is a luxury now and with this experience, this restaurant is unfortunately now off my list.
I AM WARNING ANYONE DO NOT GO HERE NOT RECOMMENDES Spent $80 dollars for 3 dishes the portion is small and the service is not good
WORST PLACE TO DINE IN SERVICE IS NO GOOD AND EXPENSIVE FOR A PORTION
BEWARE!!! This place is overpriced! The worst dining experience ever! Portions were WAY TOO SMALL for the money, bad service, and low taste quality. Please avoid at all cost. Sorry to say but would give zero star if I could.
Sauces thin and runny and portions small...taste is lacking....theres better options for this price
Extremely disappointing. Ordered a curry and a stir fry and the portions were quite small for the price of the plate. I could have been ok the small portion if the food tasted good, but was extremely bland. The rice we ordered arrived melted into the Styrofoam container so we could not eat it. This is a place from which we will never order again.
Extremely overpriced and portions Extremely small
Delicious, but portion sizes are tiny, especially for the price. Ordered $70 in food for 2 and still quite hungry.
I ordered Thai Chicken Curry before from another place for take out, but here I found the portion to fill less than half the take-out container. Totally unsatisfactory!!! For close to $18 an order and such a small portion... NEVER AGAIN. The taste was all there and good. The Chicken Pad Thai was also cooked well, and the portion slightly better. Unfortunately the competition wins this time.
very expensive for the food that you get. I took a papaya salad and hated it. It was extra extra salty, and had an horrible smell of fish ( way too much fish sauce). I told the guy I could not eat it as it was too salty . He took it back and brought me the exact same dish ( my fork was still in the plate). I told him I could not eat this. He then asked me if I had papaya salad before. I told him I did as I actually WENT to thailand and had that dish multiple times. It never tasted horribly like this one. He did not offer me anyhting else to compensate. I absolutely do NOT recommend. There was not other clients there as well. Everything is expensive and the quantity of food you get it not worth it.
Awfully small quantities for the price. Food was fairly good, but I felt very rather ripped off when I saw the small plastic bag of food for $100. Not worth the price in my opinion.
Very tasty food, small portions, prices not bad.
The food was good but the prices were high for a ridiculously small amount of food. I would not recommend it unless you want to starve. Never again!
Good Thai and Lao food. Ask to make it as hot as you wish.
No, pay a few extra dollars for better quality. This was the blandest Thai food that ever entered my mouth.
The Tom Kha Gai and Mango salad were my favourites.
The green curry is delicious but the portions are too small for the price
As with other reviewers, I did find it on the more expensive side, but no more expensive than any other similar restaurant I have eaten at since the pandemic. The food was delicious! I ordered a chicken basil sauce dinner (Pad Bai Gaprow, I think) that came with two vegetable spring rolls which were also very tasty. I ordered mine medium and it had a nice level of spice. My daughter had a curry dish hot and her nose was runny. There is an option to get extra hot. I think next time I would order hot because I do like spicy food and I could have tolerated more heat in my dish. The portions were plenty as we both ate only half of our dinner, and we took the rest home (two more meals for her!). We also ordered desert, the deep fried bananas with ice cream-yum! This is not a very sweet dish so if you want sweet - order with honey. The server (owner?) was very pleasant and kept a cautious social distance. The website says closed/open for take-out so maybe they just started taking dine-in guests. The restaurant was not busy and it was perfect for us! We liked the atmosphere.
Very good Thai restaurant. We really liked the evening formula at $19. A soup, two spring rolls with a little sauce, with a dish of your choice! The dishes are very generous! I really liked that we could choose if we wanted the dish mild, spicy or very spicy. So it s to everyone s taste! We recommend this restaurant!
The pad thai tasted like cold metal heated in a microwave. The meal was costly for the amount of food that we paid as a group (came back to 30$/perso for a group of 5). This restaurant is definitely a pass moving forward in my opinion.
Fell sick after eating. Picked up and the food was cold and noodles were chewy
Small serving sizes but good food.
Fried rice is very good, but the thai soup is not the typical one. I did not like it. The place is cool and staff super friendly! :)
Very good thanks
Not very happy with our experience. We ordered about $70 worth of food for delivery and did not receive this in value. Very small portion sizes and an ignored allergy alert. We indicated on our order that we had a peanut allergy and yet received our pad thai with peanuts on top. The food tasted pretty good though despite not having enough!
This is a very quiet restaurant despite being on the edge of the market. I have dined-in several times and I ve been the only person in the space. My understanding is that they do most of their business via delivery and special events. The owner is a wonderful man and generally includes extras in your delivery order such as soups or spring rolls. My only critique (and why I took a star off) would be that the food is a little on the oily side but if you want a yummy and quiet dining experience and need dietary accommodations, this is the place for you. *I am not not recommending this restaurant if you have food/dietary allergies. Eat at your own risk like you would at any other establishment*
Would recommend their chicken pad Thai and any kind of soup!
It was closed on Saturday at 12:27 pm
It is a good little restaurant in downtown Ottawa. I first went here as a teenager nearly two decades ago and I went there again recently and it hasnt changed much - if at all.
The owners were friendly and the food was excellent.
Very reasonably priced, good portions and prompt service. I went in with my mom today and we each ordered their lunch special for $14 (soup, egg rolls and main dish). Everything was great. I really liked the egg rolls, wish they were a little bigger but they did come as a side to the main dish. The restaurant is very quiet - a little too quiet? A little background music could go a long way.
Great food
Served with rotten peanuts, noodles are too soft... bad taste.
It kind of okay not great
Prawn soup was awesome and spicy. Pad Thai was kinda soft but still tasted awesome!!
Great food good prices for downtown
Best Pad Thai Ive ever had hands down, great family owned restaurant with plenty of vegetarian options.
Food was just bad. Pad Thai noodles were like rubber. The curry was watery. And rice was separate. The prices are way too insane for Thai food.
I rarely post a review but I decided to do this time. THE WORST THAI RESTAURANT I EVER EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!!! The food doesnt worth money you pay for at all. Please avoid if you read this comment by chance. I went to the restaurant after reading the good reviews but after the meal I believe those comments are not trustful. They might be the comments from friend or staffs or maybe they already changed the chef or owner. BTW, ITS SO BAD and Im so disappointed about the foods. OMG...........
Great service and very friendly owners. Food was delicious as well. I agree with many of the other reviews that mention the issue with value for money/portion size could be increased. However, overall I feel the service and food taste more than offset that problem and I will definitely be back! If they only increased the value a bit, I believe this could easily be the #1 Thai restaurant in the city, yeah it will slightly increase costs but Im sure this would be made up for by the increased business. Side note: The review about mandatory tip is false (unless they have just recently changed this), I was there yesterday and my total agreed to the menu prices plus tax, then I was provided the option to tip
Nice menu, good variety but the dishes (green beef carry, soup) lacked a little finesse. Good value for money but could be better.....
Great!
Very good! I recommend the C-8 red curry with beef, very good. Quiet restaurant, food not too spicy just right. Although the restaurant doesnt look like much from the outside, its worth a detour.
A little expensive good service clean place well maintained
Coconut soup with shrimp was just right, and stirfry was great. Service was attentive, rice was fresh and fluffy. Whats not to like?
Never ever go to this restaurant very bad service and charge 20% gratuity for 5 people and dont give the bill..service very poor and owner is vey arrogant. Pls avoid going..
Very large variety of authentic Thai dishes here, though I decided to try a classic Pad Thai and it was unfortunately too oily, imo. Might try again sometime though to see how the curries are.
Food is terrible. They served a soup that was coloured water. The main course had coconut base sauce that they watered down with water. Four of us ate and remarked the same thing. The portions were small. The eggrolls were tiny and tasteless. Very poor. I can count on one hand the number of times I have not tipped. This is such a case, in part because it was owner owned and we wanted to send a clear message. No value for what you pay. I hope that they pick up their game.
Too expensive for not special food at all. Found a hair on food and the owner did not say sorry.. dont recommend this place.
Food was all plain and basically the same, what differed was the names of the dishes. Along with that the service was super slow, and even though we were the only ones in the restaurant, when we would call and ask for something such as water or salt and pepper, we would be pretty much ignored. We acquired our food around 30 minutes after ordering which is ridiculous for this kind of establishment. On top of all this poor service and bland food, since we were a fairly decent sized group, they charged us 18% for their services as tip, and then followed up with the 13% tax charge. In the end, each of us ordered through the lunch special and had to pay $13 for it, but with the enforced service tip and the required taxes, it was raised by 31% and we had to drop an extra four dollars for each meal. (Which is completely absurd) Once you have a group larger than six the service tip would usually be 15% but it also depends on the service and how satisfied we are as customers. In this case none of us were satisfied at all and we were pretty much disgusted by how this entire establishment was being run, so to end this fairly long review, I will be giving this place a generous 1 star rating.
The vegan clear soup with Tofu has a bit of spicy kick and tastes wonderful!
Very tasteful
Food is authentic, but little pricey for real orders
thai iced tea
Great Thai restaurant. Combo meal for less then 20$ includes a soup, spring roll and pad thai.
Been a favourite of mine for about 20 years +
Tried a lot of new stuff, it was good!
We had 2 soups on our order, both of them were only filled up half full. I called and he said thats just how much you get. 2 half full soups and a pad Thai for 30 bucks. Pretty unimpressed.. Soup is the CHEAPEST thing to make.. Why cheap out?!? I told the guy on the phone they may want to change their portions if they ever want repeat business. Despite the food tasting good, I will not order here again
Excellent food, pleasant and friendly service! The whole family enjoyed it!
This is the worst Thai food I ever had in my life. No wonder why the restaurant was empty when I got there.
I go here often and I am always satisfied. Okay. Once it was too spicy but my tolerance is low. Their food is good and portions are good. I rarely finish what they bring me but I want to! So polite and the atmosphere is beautiful and quiet. I like eating here and sitting after just chatting with my friends or the staff. Lots of people say their portions are too small. I think they are perfect. Dude. Just order an appetizer as well. They have some very good appetizers and desserts.
I almost didnt come here because of all the bad reviews about portion sizes and what not. But Im glad I did. The portion sizes were fine, normal in fact. The serving of rice is per/person, and the soup comes in an appropriate sized bowl for one. Im just in town for a few days, and tonight was my second visit. So far, Ive had the pork spring rolls (yummy), the thom kha gai (coconut chicken soup) delicious, the bean thread noodles with chicken, tasted just fine, and tonight, the pad thai with chicken. The last of which was spot on, good side of normal. Im a lover of Thai food, and can sniff out imposter thai food at a distance. Tonights pad thai, although minus the lime wedge on the side, was perfect in a standard pad thai sort of way. They even asked how spicy I wanted it when I ordered. Which is a sign of a true thai place (although, sometimes good thai restaurants will just bring out the chili flakes when they bring out your food, instead of spicing it up for you as they cook). This place is a mom and pop shop, I think I husband and wife run the place, both very friendly. Please come support them, eat some good food along the way.
This is a great place to eat! The food is flavourful and delicious, the portions are perfect, the owners are extremely friendly, and the menu prices are very reasonable!
Best Thai in town BUT make sure you verify your order multiple times. The last 5 times weve ordered theyve completely screwed up the order and forgot half of it. Extremely frustrating!!!!!!
We ordered Pad Thai for lunch and it was really good.
one of the best mobile online order websites that Ive ever used! easy, intuitive, and the estimated time for food was spot on! food was amazing reminded me of yummy street food on Khao San rd
I ordered in, the portions are ridiculous (soup, thai rice, and green curry) compared to the price I paid. Delivery was somewhat fast, couldve been faster if they didnt write down the wrong address and had to call me when they couldnt find it. The taste isnt something out of the ordinary, its just like the other Thai restaurants in the city that would offer bigger portion for the same price and the same taste...
Small portions and flavorless. I ordered take out and it didnt include any utensils or napkins.
Very amazing Thai food
Excellent pa nang curry!!!!!!!
Excellent service and most of all the taste is so perfect. It is my go to Thai restaurant in Ottawa. Great selection on the menu and the the staff is so nice. Plenty of seating and very clean.
Service is always friendly and polite. The food is delicious. Ive been here many times as well as ordered take-out throughout the years.
great taste but, like the reviewer before me noted, the portion sizes are small. sticky rice portion size would just fill the teacup they gave me! all four of us left hungry. service was polite however.
Portion size a bit too small but once the flavor kicked in, WOW - it surely compensated. I went at lunch and ordered to go. I recommend if you are eating there for lunch to go a bit early because - full house. I tried L7 on the menu, asked for the spiciest and was perfect.
