Ridiculous hidden costs. My experience was soured by the fact that it costs $5 for a bowl of rice. Not only did it cost so much, it's the fact that it wasn't made known to me until I received my bill. I did mention to the waitress that it was my first time here, so she should have been transparent with me at the time she brought up the rice option to me. Also, upon checking the website, the rice was listed on the menu.... on the last page. It's still incredibly deceptive to not mention anything on the page that does serve with rice as an option. Otherwise, the food was decent, and the atmosphere was fair. I ordered some shrimp spring rolls & it was overcooked and tough compared to ones I normally eat elsewhere - it felt like I was eating calamari squid instead. The entrée I had was chicken with Chinese eggplant, Thai basil and red/green peppers and it was decent- told the server that the sauce was too sweet, but otherwise I did enjoy the dish itself. It's a shame I had to give a 1-star review, but it is what it is because first and last impressions count. I tipped $0 for this & warned the table next to me that rice is $5, just so they were aware. All the positives went off the table with this one negative experience.
Truly one of the best Thai places I’ve ever been to. And I’ve been to a lot especially living in Toronto! I’m so happy to have stopped in. The atmosphere and staff were so kind and inviting. Decorations on point. It felt cozy and not intimidating at all! The food was delicious and I like you can really change a lot of dishes to fit dietary needs! I got the Whole Coconut Water and it was incredible, I love how once you drink it you can literally eat the inside shell! So creative!!! I must get the recipe for that. The appetizers were all amazing too and I got the ‘Gaeng Khlao Waan Gal’ Curry with Shrimp and sticky rice- so incredible. I loved this place so much and next time I’m in Ottawa I’ll make sure to stop in! It’s a must try! 🍛🥥🍤
I went for the complete experience, cocktail (Cosmopolitan), Signature dish (Salmon Len Sorn Ha) & for desert (Crème Brûlée), the mixture of hot & cold is the ultimate sophistication to have in this context. The presentation of the food was great and the atmosphere set by all the decoration is commendable. A worthy & fantastic time.
Went here one a Thursday night and it was super busy! I ordered spicy Gaeng Dang (red curry) with chicken. The curry does not come with steamed rice. The presentation is really nice. Spice level is really hot for spicy but it is perfect for me as I love spicy food. Definitely will go back when I am back in town.
Great authentic Thai restaurant in Ottawa. Amazing hot and sour flavours from their soups. Currys are really good choice of spicing available. Lots of drinks and cocktails to wash it all down with.
It’s always nice to try different kinds of food once in a while but it’s scary when you think you will not like it. We decided to try here as a work lunch retreat and the whole experience was great. They give out free soup during lunch time and most of us ordered pad thai (cant go wrong with that). The spring rolls are great as well. Great portions and everyone was in a good coma after!!
I love the red curry with beef and steamed rice. The chicken satay with peanut sauce is also a great choice for appetizer. The chicken meat should marinade a bit longer time in my opinion. Their staffs are friendly and never force you to leave even there are customers waiting at the entrance.
My third time dining here over the years - the last time was just before the COVID pandemic. Happy to see the restaurant is still doing really well. The food was as good as I remembered it. We tried a couple of the appetizers - really recommend the shrimp fresh rolls and the chicken pad Thai. The sauce that came with the fresh roll was delicious. Atmosphere is really nice. Not only is the inside well decorated and comfortable, but they also have a sheltered patio outside so you are protected from the rain. Unfortunately the day we went it was raining AND windy so we were getting wet, and the staff quickly moved us inside. All of the staff were very pleasant and attentive. Hope to come back again the next time I'm in town!
They claim to be open until 10 and set their hours online as such which is misleading because they stop taking orders long before! What a shame
First time trying Thai! The place was gorgeous and lively. We had pinky serve us, she was amazing with such a large group of us. The food tasted amazing and a great selection of drinks. Took great care of us. Will definitely be back. Thank you Pinky for making it a wonderful experience!
The food, especially Khao Soi, was delicious! The space can be a bit tight with larger groups but good service.
The paneng, the original drinks and the atmosphere make this place a must. I keep going back!
A really great place. I look forward to visiting again for a special night out on the town. Tops! Food
Amazing curry, great experience everytime I come here!
order take out and you get raw chicken! Hope you like to cook your own meals. What a joke. Spoke with the manager and owner who both refused to refund the meal and called me a liar. The comment that by the owner is also a lie and was never refunded or contacted
The service and atmosphere is amazing. I like the food, but it does depend a little bit on what you re getting. Our go to options are either curries or Bangkok Street Food is amazing. I found the pad Thai really bad. Overall, I think it is the best Thai place in Ottawa Food
Went here on a Friday night with a reservation, great service, food was amazing and came quickly, had a great time!
My favourite Thai place and favourite restaurant period! Their food is amazing! Ive gone multiple times in the same weekend. Their craft cocktails are also impressive with flowers and other real ingredients. The staff is very friendly for the most part. We had a guy serve us once and we were not impressed (nor was he apparently!) but the food is so flavourful and staff otherwise are very warm and hospitable.
Great cocktails, amazing food and outstanding service
Vegetarian options: Theres a specific section for vegetarian options with many options. Very helpful. Food
A must-try in Ottawa! This Thai gem in ByWard Market is a bit pricey, but everything is fantastic: delicious food, lovely atmosphere, and friendly service. Plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian and vegan options, including coconut milk curries. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
This was our first visit and we loved the service and the food!! Highly recommend!!
Interesting spot to try Thai cuisine A looooooot of vegetarian options and the kitchen is very mindful of special requests. :) Will have to come back again to try other options
Good service with delicious food
Good quality food and nice interior decor.
Went to dinner here last night with some friends and the three of us were so so happy with the whole experience. It was a nice evening and we opted to eat outdoors. Their outdoor patio was well thought out and designed. The seating was comfortable and it didn t feel like we were right next to traffic. The servers were friendly, funny and helpful. We have spring rolls (veg and shrimp) as appetizers and you could tell they were fresh. The main meals were all delicious. The curries came served on these cute dishes wish candles to keep them warm. The prices were reasonable too. An hour after we left we were still talking about it. Would 100% go back. It s a place where you can dress up or dress down and feel comfortable in
Excellent food and very reasonable price. Very friendly staff as well.
I recently visited here and unfortunately didn t meet my expectations. The food was excessively sweet, which overshadowed the intended flavors of the dishes. Additionally, the prices were on the higher side, making it feel like I wasnt getting value for my money. Overall, I left disappointed and wouldnt recommend it
Great atmosphere but really mediocre and overpriced thai food. Tried green curry, the red curry and the Khao soi and all of them were NOT authentic and tasted like fast food. Not going back especially at the prices they are charging!
Best thai food in Ottawa
Really disappointed with the staff here. I came from out of town with a party of 6, calling around restaurants around the city to see if anyone has space. I call Khao Thai and they said they do, so we drive 20 minutes there, getting there 5 minutes before the estimate I said on the phone and they gave our table away already. Now my hungry kids are there and have no food. Wow.
Excellent Thai food, the Pad Phrik Khing was phenomenal!
The food is tasty, but in general they are tailored towards western tastes, all dishes have a sweet taste and the curry is very sweet. Service is fast.
Very popular Thai restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Very attentive service. Food ok but not exceptional Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian dishes on the menu. Parking: Free street parking in the evening.
Food was great. Exceptional service
Goddamm good thai !!! I Recommand really bad hahaha
I am a strict vegetarian and ordered off the vegetarian menu. My curry came filled with pieces of chicken and I accidentally bit into one. The kitchen took back the dish but they did nothing else to make this up to me, I was traumatized and will never go back. Terrible service. Vegetarian options: They put meat in the vegetarian dishes, not safe for vegetarians
One of the best pad Thai s I ve ever had hands down. 10/10 street patio was awesome, not cheap but worth every penny!
This place was amazing! The service was great and the food was even better. Definitely coming back here with my boyfriend to tackle the menu!
The food is delicious. BUT( ) this cost us over $40!! This is highway robbery.
Its to Thai for. First time in Canada for work and Khao Thai was recommended. And you better believe my dish Gaeng Panang was amazing. The peanut butter red curry with red peppers and shredded beef is delicious. I forgot to take a picture. But, I will definitely say they us seasoning very well blended. If you love Thai food give it a try at Khao Thai and prove me wrong. Vegetarian options: My wife is a vegetarian and plenty of options. Parking: Parking after 5:30pm is free. First come
Food is always great and service is efficient. If you do go close to closing, they will hurry you along and not let you linger (at least on the patio).
Wow Wow amazing food , best mango salad and Curri Just exquisite flavor and yummy you must try
Fantastic food. Good service, nice outdoor patio.
This is excellent Thai food that came out very quickly. I got the Pad Khee Mao Jae with tofu and it has so many great vegetables.
Excellent food and service.
Really nice restaurant! Food was so good! Perfect service. Thank you guys Tres bonne! Les plats sont bons, le service est impeccable. Merci! Very tasty, excellent service.
A really nice place in the market for Thai cuisine. The soups are amazing and dishes full of flavor, albeit a little expensive (but worth it!).
Service extremely slow and not very attentive. I had to ask 3 times the menu, 4 times to order... we ordered only 30mn after sitting, got the food 45mn later... Food however was very good. Many gluten free options.
Tried there salmon in a young coconut, worth going and eating. So good :)
Amazing experience here! The menu is 90% gluten-free and has many vegetarian options (the tofu is firm and well cooked). The food tastes authentic and delicious! The only downside was that they do not offer chopsticks, but once I tasted the food I quickly forgot about that. The food portions are big and prices are fair. Over I would recommend dining here for a sit down experience. Vegetarian options: 30% vegetarian menu Dietary restrictions: Almost 100% gluten free menu
The pad thai was delicious! Nice outdoor patio as well.
Really good Thai restaurant, but waitress a little oppressive, came every 30 seconds to look at what was left on the plates, we felt a little rushed to finish even though the restaurant was not full and there was no no wait either however taste-wise nothing to complain about it was great!!
A little gem near the ByWard Market! Just about all the delicious Thai specialties you can imagine, varied cocktails and wow as well as reasonable prices for this quality! Vegetarian options: Several plant choices (2 pages!) Dietary restrictions: Very open to customer sensitivities.
We got delivery so admittedly its possible that the food suffered from waiting. The pad thai noodles were stuck together. The rice seemed like it had been sitting around for a long time. The massaman beef was bland.
Excellent Thai cuisine. Good price great food!
overpriced and mediocre food
Nice atmosphere to dine in. Tom Kha and Pananing are just delicious.
Had the red curry with jasmine rice: it was sooooo good. The curry was so smooth and creamy and had a perfect spiciness to it! My mouth is watering thinking about it now! Highly recommended Food
Watch the bill. Last night the seven of us went for a family gathering. We asked for a bill for six and one for a single. Back home we noticed that the restaurant charged us for 7 main courses on the bill that was supposed to be for six people. And they also charge an extra single bill and meal, too bad as the food is excellent. The service is slow although we were almost alone. It was a slow Tuesday after the long week end. Many staff members idle. The ambiance is fine for a Thai restaurant. Disappointed with the bill
The rice noodles with beef were amazing! But the rice a little dry and the egg noodles were okay. The place was a little dark and the service was okay. Small quantity for the food you get.
The service was quick and efficient. The Spring rolls were delicious and tasted fresh! The Khao Soi Jae was great! The vegetable fried rice was very nice! The Chocolate Lava Cake was delicious! Would definitely recommend!
A delicious Thai restaurant. The waitresses are very pleasant and respectful, and the service is fast. The spring rolls are delicious and so is the pad thai. I highly recommend this address. Vegetarian options: Tofu, shrimp.
Excellent food. Very good service. The price is not too high. It is better to reserve as it is always full. The food is always at a very good level.
The best Thai restaurant, unanimously. Vegetarian options: The majority of dishes are available with tofu. Parking: Paid parking available on the street corner, there is always room.
Great food! Service was amazing. We sat outside and had a nice breeze. Will be going back!
Would definitely go again. Great atmosphere and the food was lovely. #33 and #27 were good choices. Good drink selection. Very efficient and friendly staff.
Too sweet for my taste
Probably the best thai food Ive ever had and I was in Bangkok not too long ago, the price reflects that but its worth it
The food is amazing, best mango sticky rice I ever had Thank you
Pretty decent place. Food is more international taste than authentic Thai. Patio is nice - with fun international music. Service was attentive and gentle. Smooth and safe choice for gathering in Byward market area. Food
Delicious, fresh and very flavourful. We had a Tom Yum soup and coconut based soup with 2 shrimp, both were excellent. We shared an order of Pad Thai. Very flavourful and fresh. Loved our experience, will be back!
Very good restaurant and good thai foods.
My fav is the yellow curry. Nobody makes it this good.. Nobody.love this place Food
Great food and service! Very pretty atmosphere
Being a vegetarian, the menu options are great! Loved the service Vegetarian options: One entire page of the menu dedicated for vegetarian options ! Food : 5/5 |
The red curry dish is really authentic and worth trying! The place has a patio if you enjoy outdoor. The waitress is very considerate and helpful!
Just happened upon this spot while strolling the city center ..food was delicious ,,and the staff charming welcoming and friendly ...chicken melted in my mouth
I just visited this restaurant last night, after reading some great reviews about it, before I left my house. Despite the patio being full when I arrived, people were finishing up, and I was able to get a table for four. The patio had nicely appointed furniture, and the vibe was fantastic. I dined with three others, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The dishes arriving at other tables looked very appealing, and the diners seemed quite pleased. The service was excellent and attentive. I can t wait to return for my next meal and try something new. It s wonderful to read reviews that truly reflect a great experience. Im looking forward to my next visit!
Best Thai food in the city, period. Great service, great atmosphere. I look forward to returning
The pad thai was bad. It was not authentic at all which is disappointing as I was just in Thailand eating out for 1.5 months. It tasted super sweet, didn t have any wok taste, and not enough bean sprouts. All I taste is the sauce. Menu does not offer any pork which is the main protein in many traditional dishes. I ve been here twice before and the khao soi was good. Giving 3 stars because service was excellent.
Spicy drunken noodles and green curry were both unreal. Really recommend!
I like Fern. She is so cute. Food was delicious. But the approach of Nisa was not good. She wasn t that much cooperative. Vegetarian options: They have gluten free and vegetarian menu
Ordered take out this week and we were very pleasantly surprised. Better Thai food than any other Thai restaurant we have tried in Ottawa over the past several years. Parking: Limited street parking available in front of the restaurant and in the general area (payment required if parking before 5:30 PM)
The food is too sweet! We might sit closely to their kitchen, so it smells very bad when we were eating. Disappointed.
I came here for my friends 25th birthday, the food was flavourful and scrumptious! Staff are attentive, kind, and accommodating (as we made a reservation). Parking: Parking garage close by
Good food, kind staff and cool atmosphere. It is a great family owned place, with many menu options. Will have to come again to try what I didn t the first time! Vegetarian options: Entire veg menu
Very busy so fast service would have been impossible. Pleasant servers, though and the food was excellent! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian and vegan options
This is an absolutely unbelievable restaurant in ALL aspects! Their service is unmatched, the food is on point & couldn t have asked for more. This restaurant has really raised the bar! Their drinks are phenomenal and this place hasn t left any gaps in delivering a beyond expected dining experience. For reference, we had shrimp pad thai, shrimp fried rice, veggie spring rolls, grilled chicken satay and red thai curry. In we had mojoto, shirley temple, thai ice tea, thai passion & LIIT. In desserts we had sticky mango rice which is highly recommend, creme brûlée, chocolate cake. Beyond 5* to this restaurant! Special shout out to Pinky for great service along with their entire staff! Vegetarian options: They have veggie options available
I came to this restaurant for dinner on Mothers Day evening at 6 p.m. and found the indoor seating area already full. Initially, the staff seated us outside, but as it felt a bit chilly, we requested to change to takeout. At this point , another server approached us, but her attitude was very unfriendly and impatient when I mentioned that the appetizer I wanted wasnt suitable for takeout. Eventually, we decided to dine in, but she actually told me I should have informed her earlier because of the different ordering system. Apart from her, the food was delicious and the other staff members were friendly. I shouldnt dislike the entire restaurant because of one person, so out of courtesy, I still gave a 15% tip. However, this dining experience left me with no motivation to write about it on other social media. I came to this restaurant for dinner at 6 oclock on Mothers Day night and found that the room was already full. At first, the store clerk arranged for us to sit outside, but because it felt a bit cold, we wanted to take out instead. At this time, another waiter came, but her attitude was very unfriendly and irritable because the appetizer I wanted to order was not suitable for takeout. In the end we decided to switch to dine-in, but she actually told me that I should have told her earlier because the ordering system was different. Although except for this server, the food was delicious and the other servers were friendly. I shouldnt hate an entire restaurant because of one person, so out of politeness I tipped 15%. But this dining experience left me with no motivation to write a review, or even mention it on other social platforms.
Delicious food and first time I have found a curry that I enjoyed
Delicious and affordable dishes. I think they need another waitress since they were all too busy when we went there, though they were always kind Food
Had a great dinner, good food, and even better service. Bee was my server and did amazing. Would definitely go again.
Didn t bother to take pictures because the first dish we had, the Tom Yum soup, already upset us. If you just want Asian food, it s fine but if you want authenticity or you are going because of the reviews, you may be disappointed. Food The salmon curry was fantastic. It was a great choice but the Tom Yum soup with shrimp was too runny / thin. The taste was just off and far from the authentic ones I had in the past. Satay chicken was great. Tender, juicy and their peanut sauce went well with it. Pad Thai - the acidity was overpowering and to be honest, it was some Asian style stir fry noodles, not Pad Thai. The chicken was over-cooked. Service The waiter whom I shall not name seems too busy to provide good service. He spilled the Tom Yum soup without any sign of apology. He pretended like nothing happened. He just dumped the food onto the table. The way he dumped it made us feel like if we don t make an effort to make room on the table, he s not going to care either. He tried to ask if we were happy with the food, but he was gone before I finished my sentence. In short, I am deeply disappointed. I made the reservation in advance because of the reviews. I took my parents to this place and told them the dinner would be great because the reviews say so. Just so disappointed.
The waiter is rude.
Everything 5 * * * * *stars
Hidden gem in the heart of Byward Market. Food was amazing, except for the soup which was moderate. Can t believe I haven t gone earlier. Will definitely come often!
Khao Thai in the ByWard Market is a culinary gem that never disappoints. Pairing these exquisite dishes with a cold Sapporo beer elevates the experience to new heights, creating the perfect balance of refreshment and indulgence. Vegetarian options: Lots of veg options Kid-friendliness: Family friendly Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level restaurant
One of our favorite Thai restaurants in Ottawa. Its a nice cute spot for date night or celebrating special occasions
Delicious food and great service! Been twice and both times were great
Very disappointing, don t waste your money.
Insanely amazing food!! Accommodated all needs for spicyness. Chill atmosphere and quiet. Very professional. 10/10
Food is good and service was AMAZING
Possibly the best Thai eatery outside Thailand. The decor is mediocre, but the food is out of this world. Service is fast and friendly. Everything is freshly prepared and prices are very reasonable
We came here for lunch and the food was very good. It is hard to find Khao Soi in Ottawa so I was extremely happy to find it here! We tried the lunch special with soup and spring roll. We ordered Pad Thai and Khao Soi. We enjoyed the food here and the service. One day, they need a bigger space because this place can get a little cramped. It doesnt derail them from their amazing food though. Id come back here again when I am around. I recommend this place!
Honestly our review is for Mook the sweet server as much as the restaurant! She was so delightful and even helped teach how to scrape the coconut insides out of the coconut to enjoy with their signature curry dish! The service here is so good even their mushrooms were smiling at us :) Hands down one of the best authentic Thai restaurants in Ottawa. Thanks Momma Mook
Had to wait way too long for service and then greeted with attitude and cold food. Not a happy customer at all! Food
Vegetarian options: They have a very diverse menue for vegetarians. Food
Went for the first time for dinner. Made a reservation with no issues. Service was fantastic - they were extremely attentive and friendly, and the food came out quickly. We were happy with our dishes (not the best we ve had but still pretty good) and we loved the intimate, cozy vibe of the restaurant. Huge menu with a great vegetarian section. Will definitely be back to try more!
One of the best Thai meals I ve ever had
Great place! Fast service and delicious food. We ordered noodles, Tom Yam and a new appetizer. I am not a fan of Thai noodles but I loved the taste of my husbands noodles . Tom Yum on coconut milk with shrimp is just delicious: a lot of shrimp and great broth. We will definitely come back when we are in Ottawa again.
Delicious yellow curry.
Food, service and ambiance were all amazing! Pad thai and curry were delicious and so were our drinks. Highly recommend for a good thai experience!
A Culinary Gem: Authentic Thai Delights at Khao Thai! From the moment I stepped into Khao Thai, I was transported to a world of authentic Thai culture. The restaurants ambience struck a perfect balance between elegance and comfort, with intricate Thai decorations and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The menu was a delightful journey through Thailands rich culinary landscape. Each dish was not only a feast for the taste buds but also a work of art. The Khao Thai Combo, Som Tom Salad and Pad Thai was exceptional, with perfectly balanced flavors and textures. The Red Curry with salmon in the young coconut, with its creamy and spicy notes, was an absolute revelation. The ingredients were fresh, and the spices were masterfully used, demonstrating a deep understanding of traditional Thai cooking. The service at Khao Thai was as impressive as the food. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, adding a personal touch that made the dining experience even more special. They were quick to offer recommendations and were well-versed in the nuances of each dish. What set Khao Thai apart was not just the excellence of its food but also its ability to create a truly authentic Thai experience. From the music playing softly in the background to the beautifully presented dishes, every detail contributed to an atmosphere that was both exotic and welcoming. I would recommend Khao Thai is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic Thai dining experience. The combination of exquisite food, enchanting ambience, and exceptional service makes it a standout. Whether youre a lover of Thai cuisine or a newcomer eager to explore, Khao Thai promises an unforgettable culinary adventure.
The best Thai place in town!
Always authentic and high quality dining experience.
Delicious food, smiling service and gentle atmosphere. I came here years ago and it hasnt changed - still a superb experience
The food is top notch. Loved that they had a sampler appetizer so that we could try several items. We got a noodle dish and asked for it spicy, and it was perfect! Highly recommend!
One of my favorite restaurant. Great atmosphere, awesome drinks and really good vegan options. Best Sumner rolls Ive had.
Authentic Thai cuisine, delicious flavors, fresh ingredients and impeccable service!! We will definitely come back when we visit Ottawa.
We made a reservation and when we showed up the lady turned us away a party of 8 away including 2 young kids claiming she never confirmed the appointment .
Food is always good and healthy. However, my last two visits were not good at all. One of them took a long time to get our food and after that they told us we had to leave because we couldnt be there for more than 2 hours. And on our last visit during our lunch time, it took over 40 minutes to get our food. But other people who came after us got their food before we did. We handed up bringing the food to eat at our office. Something business gets very and they forget about great customer service is what brings the people back to stay busy. I hope they improve their customer service so they dont lose their clients. Cheers.
One of the best Thai restaurants I have ever been to. Great staff, they were very friendly and gave good suggestions. We basically tried most of the dishes and they were all great. Tasty food!!!
This is the best Thai food in ottawa no doubt! Everything on the menu is a 10/10. Service is also great. Water was filled all the time and never needed to ask.
We had the Khao Thai Rolls, Tom Kha Kai Soup and Massaman Curry. They have alot of options on their menu as well as Gluten Free options. It tasted good, but the portions are small so it would be best to get a few dishes to try and share :)
My first experience was very pleasant. My family and I went to eat during the lunch hour. The restaurant is clean with elegant lights and modern decor. The waiter/waitress were sympathetic. They served us complimentary belly warming sweet cabbage soup. The main dishes came out quicker than any fastfood restaurants (thumbs up). The food was overall tasty and savory. I would definitely come here again.
Nice decor and that s about it But food is not authentic at all All those 5 star reviews, how many of you been to Thailand? Smh
Professional, attentive and good humored customer service. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel comfortable and welcome. Food is fresh and made to a very high standard, and the flavor choices and choices for dishes are fantastic! There were six of us and every one had something different, and every one of us loved their meals. Only problem was how hard it was to choose what to have this time. Definitely making this restaurant a regular place to eat! Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian and vegan options, lots of great flavor choices!
recently came here for dinner with some friends. we ordered the spring rolls and Tom yum soup as an appetizer, a red curry, a yellow curry, and the pad Thai. the spring rolls were average but the flavours of the curries and pad Thai were wonderful. The only reason I give it 3 stars and not 4 is because the waitress was visibly annoyed while taking our order and rolled her eyes at us as well, not sure why. Would still come back for the food though! The ambience and presentation was also very nice.
i ordered take out of the yellow curry which i m soooo obsessed, it taste just like what i always craving for the this yellow curry if you get what i m saying, the reason I m giving it 4 star is because when you order takeout, there s no rice comes with it, luckily I have some leftover rice at my home, but still, for a curry almost $30 after tax with no rice, it is quite expensive.
The food was pretty good; not stand-out wow but we were happy with it overall. The service is what prompted me to leave this review; it was fantastic! The staff were super friendly and attentive. It was one of the best service experiences Ive had at a restaurant in a very long time!
Loved it, food is excellent and you have a lot of it, it was absolutely delicious (especially the street food plate and the chicken fried rice )!!
Food is so pricy and def not worthy the money. It s so dull, soup tastes like cane one, def not freshly made. Stir fry protein is dry. Everything is below average, not recommended at all.
Love it!!! Two great meals plus appetizers! The waitress was perfect. Highly recommend!! Food : 5/5 |
Quite a number of dishes were unavailable. We ordered Chicken Pad Thai, which the waitress confirmed with us herself and yet when it was served, it was with shrimp that came with a higher price. The presentation of the dishes was appealing, yet the taste of everything was too sweet and far from any authentic Thai dishes. The Tom Yum Goong was not spicy or flavourful at all and the portion was too small and definitely overpriced. The Pad Thai was weird too cause they added ketchup to it. It s not a wise choice to dine in this restaurant especially when there are so many nice bars and restaurants around this area.
Great service, tasty food in good portions, cozy lighting with many paintings and a generally pleasant atmosphere. Can be crowded.
sooo good! perfectly delicious plates with very friendly service! we will be back
Great discovery, courteous and fast service! A place to revisit!
Went there for late lunch. Food tasted very good. The servers were very courteous. If they are not very busy, they can make you some of the dinner menu at lunch time as well if you request.
In light of all the positive reviews here, was looking forward to the food. Disappointed! The food was so salty it was inedible. Sad considering the price.
We ordered pick-up. Food was fine, though the pad thai tasted ketch-up. The services was terrible. The person who took our orders is impatient and rude. They forgot our drinks though I mentioned it *twice* and they already charged us! We are traveling so we called for a refund, and they required in-person reimbursement so I guess we will just come back next year. haha. Honestly, there are way more great food other than this restaurant in the Byward Market. Pick a better one!
Just ordered and picked up my food from here. I specifically asked them for cutlery. Got back to my car and nothing in the bag. Not even a napkin
It s so good!!! Thai food is excellent
Food was utterly delicious! Made my taste buds dance! Had chicken panang and pad Thai with shrimp. So light, fragrant and tasty with a great souce(we asked for hot). Would definitely recommend.
Unfortunately, I found all the dishes not so authentic. Tom yum soup was rather clear one than milky one and the portion was quite small.
Had a wonderful experience at Khao Thai. Each dish delivered layers of flavours not usually found it other Thai restaurants. The service was also excellent, each staff member very friendly and attentive to our needs, even with the restaurant being full on a Monday night. Would definitely recommend!
Delicious food, the lard na broth has an amazingly rich texture and was delicious. The soup was also great
Delicious Thai food, very friendly staff and very generous portions. Would like to try everything on their menu!
An amazing experience! Service is on point. Love the fact that they have an entire section dedicated to vegetarian food . Just the red curry was a tad too sweet...so check with the staff before ordering if you prefer you food to be more balanced.
We shared the Lard-Na, Gai Med Mamuang, and Sweet and Sour Prawns washed down with some Singha. Everything was delicious. I think the Lard-Na was our favourite but, quite frankly, were splitting hairs at that point.
The first restaurant in Ottawa that made me want to go back
Awesome cocktails and delicious spicy food. Really love the vegetarian menu! Vegetarian options: An entire menu section filled with vegetarian options Food : 5/5 |
The food was really great and affordable. 38 dollars for appetizer drink and a main. I mean was born in 2002, just started making my own money yesterday so I don t really know what s expensive for a restaurant like this. They also provided free vegetable soup which was really good. I went by myself
Excellent food and service. It was a bit loud though. Turn the music down Parking: Its byward market. Either get lucky with a spot on the street or pick a nearby multistory carpark Food : 5/5 |
Vegetarian options: They have vegan menu Food
The food was hot and fresh. The noodles weren t overcooked. I asked for extra spicy and it was actually spicy. No complaints at all.
This was the second time I ve been here - the first time, it was great! However, I was there tonight and they served me an old sticky rice that smelled off. When I told the waitress, she said it s the smell of the bamboo basket they put it in. This was not true as it s in a plastic bag and if the customer can t eat it, you should apologize. That didn t happen and they even charged me for it. I won t be going there again just because of the service.
A meal can be a bit pricey... but the quality is unrivaled !! Such good food. One of my favorite dining for a quality bite! Highly recommend ANY of their curries Food : 5/5
Was very disappointed after reading all the good reviews of this place. To start, over an hour and a half wait for a take-out order on a week night is just ridiculous, and it was later at night not even during the dinner time rush. When I arrived there was hardly anyone in the restaurant either so they were clearly not that busy. I then get back to my hotel and open the bag to find no chopsticks or utensils, luckily I was able to get some from the front desk of the hotel to eat with. The food was also disappointing. The Pad Thai was very mushy. The flavors were ok but nothing spectacular. The spring rolls were at least decent. There are definitely better places to get Thai food from though and with a fraction of the wait time.
Arguably the best curry Ive had!! The food here is fantastic. The service is excellent and the ambiance is perfect. I really dont have anything negative here at all. Very affordable, extremely flavourful, and just all around a must eat... Vegetarian options: An entire menu worth of veggie options
This was my second time and I had reservations. It took 15 minutes once seated to get water. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The appetizer arrived before the drinks with no plates or utensils, drinks 10 minutes after and not as beautiful as my last time. Food ari ed 15 minutes free the drinks. We ordered medium heat pad Thai and prawn curry. Prawn curry had chicken and no prawns and server was unavailable for 15 minutes to let them Know that was not what what we ordered . The pad thai had absolutely no spice, very bland and greasy looking. When we were able to advise on mistake for the prawn curry, I had almost finished my meal and they just took it, no excuses and came back 10 minutes later with prawn curry. It was not a very good experience, food was not good and service was awful. We were disappointed for a final bill of 112.00$ .
The food is always amazing at this restaurant. The spice level is good. They also have a big vegetarian section, along with lots of vegan options. The service and people working here are great and super welcoming to any person. Vegetarian options: A big section of vegetarian and vegan menu. Dietary restrictions: Vegan and vegetarian
Very unpleasant experience with the restaurant today I m on a trip to Sutton passing Ottawa and decided to try out this place reading the positive reviews and my personal preference on Thai food. I ordered Pad Thai and asked if it can be just a little bit or very mild spicy, the waiter said yes they can do spicy pad Thai and I emphasized to make sure just a little bit is good and he said ok. Then it came out to be super spicy for me (I can eat extremely spicy Szechuan food easily) and asked to change, then a lady came to our table challenging with a quite rude attitude: Did you order spicy pad Thai? Well, I order pad Thai with very mild spicy If you can t eat spicy, you don t order spicy food in a Thai restaurant next time, or you order non-spicy one with hot sauce on the side I did specify the degree of spicy, and how can I know how spicy your food is if it s my first time here, and if hot sauce on side is an option, why you didn t offer when I order The lady cut me off and became even ruder: Are you blaming us? I was suddenly shocked and speechless since I ve never been treated like that before when the food doesn t meet my expectation. But yes, I am blaming you on trying teach your customer a lesson, showing an attitude and completely ruining my mood of having a relax dinner after hours of driving. Then she said: Do you still want the pad Thai or not? Of course I need it, I haven t had . Another cut off.. Then I ll make you no spicy at all, so we don t waste another noodle I probably just nodded or said ok, don t quite remember since I was shocked and couldn t react quickly, then she just left with an unhappy face. Finally I got a completely non-spicy pad Thai with no hot sauce even on the side (and no one even came after to check if we need anything else) so I didn t get the food I expected at all I don t think Thai restaurants should have only one level of spicy, at least that s not the case for several popular Thai places in Toronto, and it s so not professional for the entire communication. The food just taste normal, and the bad attitude made it worse. Will never come back again and would not recommend to people from Toronto (PAI northern Thai kitchen is so much better )
I had the panang curry and my wife had the green curry. Both were excellent! The staff were all very friendly and helpful making for an really enjoyable evening.
The curry in the coconut was great
Amazing palce to eat! Soooooo good! I loved the signature Salmon in Coconut! and the sticky rice is awesome too!
Food is always great. Warm and friendly customer service.
Hands down my favorite Thai place! Infact probably my favorite restaurant overall! Very authentic, fantastic service and atmosphere. The chicken pad Thai is absolutely incredible. They have some very very good appetizers as well. Cannot say enough good things about this little gem. Do yourself a favor and try them out.
I love this place. Have been going here for years. The food is great and the staff is friendly. The last few times weve gone, weve felt rushed. They come over and ask if youre ready to order *multiple* times, while you and your guests still have all of the menues open. Im guessing this is how theyve been trained? Because its different waitresses doing the same thing. Its really irritating.
The food is great! The best thai restaurant Ive been.
Disappointing take out from this place. Ordered pad thai (taste was unsatisfactory, thai express has got even better pad thai!). The mango salad was warm because they put it on top of my curry order. And my curry order didn t even come with rice. Never been to a Thai restaurant that charge 25$ for curry without any rice to go along with it. Avoid take out at this place if possible. Perhaps, dine in will give you better luck.
The worst pad Thai. It was weird with the foul smell of raw rotten eggs. Very disappointed!
i left very hydrated
Great dining experience and amazing cocktails!
Great food, at more than fair prices. We spontaneously looked for a table and got it here. Food was great. The incorrectly delivered starter was replaced immediately. The service was friendly and attentive. Gladly again.
Every food is tasty, every time I go there it doesnt disappoint,
Best Thai food in town! Incomparable service. Nice varied offer. What a joy to go there!
Savory food is too sweet. Stir-fried garlic is very sweet.
Probably the best place to have Thai food. The food was so good that it reminded me of Thailand. Service and behavior were friendly and warm as you expect from South East Asian food places. I will definitely visit again!
That was not good Thai food. Inky coconut milk and basil doesn t make things Thai. Food was too sour and overly salted. Also gave me an upset stomach.
Everything was delicious and service was fantastic
The food was incredible. Delicious. Service was excellent. Even though the restaurant was almost full, I could still hear my dinner partner. Highly recommend. Food
BEST THAI FOOD ! Amazing service.
We had their red curry, mango sticky rice, and pad thai. Everything was delicious!
Best Thai food in Ottawa. Cant go wrong here.
We had a green curry plate, one pad thai, a tomyum and tomkha soup and some dishes. I do really like the green curry plate, it tastes good and flavourful, but the reason why I m giving 3 stars is the taste of tomyum and tomkha soups. They re extremely sour and so way different from where I used to have in Thailand or many other Thai restaurants. The kitchen needs to adjust the sour from these soups. The sour taste was so strong that all of us couldn t finish both bowls so unfortunate. Tomkha is always my favourite dish in Thai cuisine but this disappointed me very bad!
- Service was meh. We were a group of 5 polite adults and we felt like treated like children. We were told twice by the same person to not put food on their laminated menu (who would do that anyway?). - Dishes were hit and miss : 50% were meh and 50% were good. Some of it was too sweet and one was very sour (broth tasted like fermented tofu - not sure whether if it turned bad). Cocktails are good. - More expensive than I thought. For one appetizer (25$), two mains (22-26$) and two cocktails (around 15-18$), it was 113$ before tax and tip. Seems like 140$ was a lot for this for 2 people. I went twice in the past few years and it was 5/5, but it seems like it changed. Really bummed that we didn t like it :(
Absolutely blown away by the food. As a vegetarian, I strive to find Thai places that infuse a ton of flavour into their food and Khao Thai is definitely one of them! We had the vegetarian red curry and the vegetarian drunken noodles, and both were fantastic, I ve been chipper since eating it! Really lovely ambience and service as well, and really good portion sizes (one dish can definitely be shared between two people, or you can pack and take home for some good times the next day haha) Really enjoyed it! Vegetarian options: A separate vegetarian menu that s fantastic. It is for a limited time though, so restaurant hours don t coincide exactly with the vegetarian menu hours.
Excellent Thai cuisine and a good selection of wine. Loved learning that there is a certification for Thai restaurants and that this place offers authentic recipes with fresh ingredients. We enjoyed every bite! Vegetarian options: A good selection of vegetarian dishes.
Very good
Whenever I am in town, Kaho is my go-to for Thai! The food is always fabulous, the service above and beyond, love the atmosphere! I have eaten both inside and outside when they have the patio open Highly recommend
They dont seem to like younger crowd. We went as a family last year but when my daughter and her friends went back this week they were treated badly. Rushed them through and made it obvious they did not want them. Lots of Thai choices in Ottawa.
