198 Main St, Ottawa, ON K1S 0G4, Canada
Nourishing, clean & organic food, made from scratch, farm-to-table. The Green Door self-serve buffet allows you to curate your unique plate to suit your appetite and nutrition needs since 1988. Dine-in, takeout and online order for delivery or pickup.
We recently got married and celebrated with our family at The Green Door. We wanted a welcoming family atmosphere with terrific tasting food and The Green Door did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food satisfied the vegan, vegetarian and carnivores alike. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we brought home two delicious cakes as part of our celebration which again everyone enjoyed immensely. Every dish and bakery item we have ever had here has been wonderful. Thank you for accommodating our group and helping make our day even more special!
You may have heard of vegetarian restaurants, but the one I recently visited at 198 Main St, Ottawa, ON K1S 1C6, is a standout—The Green Door Restaurant & Bakery. Even if you're not a vegetarian, this place is absolutely worth a visit. All of the dishes are plant-based, and you'll be amazed by the variety they offer. Their menu is thoughtfully curated to satisfy a wide range of tastes, making it an enjoyable dining experience for anyone, regardless of dietary preference. I’ve taken photos of both the cozy atmosphere and the beautifully presented meals to give you a better sense of this hidden gem. The restaurant has a warm, inviting ambiance, and every dish looks as good as it tastes. The food is fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care, showcasing just how creative and diverse vegetarian cuisine can be. Whether you're a long-time vegetarian or simply someone who enjoys trying new flavors, I highly recommend giving The Green Door Restaurant & Bakery a try. It deserves to be at the top of your list when looking for a place to enjoy a satisfying meal in Ottawa. The combination of the relaxed atmosphere and the incredible variety of dishes will leave you impressed, no matter your food preferences.
🍽️ Incredible buffet where you pay by weight—customize your meal! 🌱 Fresh, farm-to-table ingredients that burst with flavor 🍪Freshly baked pastries, cookies, and desserts daily 🥗 Fantastic variety for vegans and vegetarians 🌈 Thoughtfully prepared dishes that are as beautiful as they are delicious 🏡 Cozy indoor ambiance complemented by a charming patio ☀️ Perfect spot for a relaxed meal outdoors 💖 Highly recommend for all food lovers!
Easily the best vegetarian restaurant in the city. - My family overseas both in Europe and South America still remembers our last meal at The Green Door, as the food is incredibly delicious and varied. - Many people will comment on the price, but you have to be honest with yourself and realise quality ingredients are more expensive. - 90% organic ingredients. - Fresh and local ingredients. - Made from scratch. - Nutritionally dense food, you will fill your plate but you will likely skip the next meal as you will still be satisfied and still full 6-8 hours after the meal. Ergo, the price you pay stretches the dollar if that's a concern 💵 . - The buffet is incredibly varied with: -Soup du jour. - Biscuit or bread. - Cold salad section. - Fruit section. - Large hot main course section: - The Lasagna is just incredible and filling. - The lentil patties or balls are fantastic. - Curried chickpeas are delicious. - Oh desserts 🎂, don't get me started, just have one of their cheesecakes. For once a cheesecake in North America that is not excessively sweet. I could not believe the cheesecakes were made with cashews. My very diary, carnivore daughter prefers Green Door cheesecakes over anything else. The portions are very generous, so feel free to share. - Finally, the restaurant has a really unique Coop, family ambiance that just completes the whole experience. - Final hint: If you are primarily vegetarian but your friend or significant other is not, come with them to The Green Door and they will realize like me, that vegetarian does not imply eating grass or untasty food.
I used to be a chef and everything I had at The Green Door was truly exceptional. A lot of love and care was poured into every item I sampled which isn't always the case in the restaurant industry nowadays. Great execution & attention to details, wonderful flavors and perfect seasoning all around. Will definitely be back every time I'm in Ottawa!
Good food! Great times! There is something for everyone here. Buffet style, so you control your budget. They've been around for a long time, so they're doing something right. Patio is now open for seating as well. Definitely add them to your restaurant list.
Classic Ottawa dining experience. High quality, tasty vegetarian food served buffet style. Although a vegetarian restaurant there has been no compromise on flavour, it’s all so good. Pesto pasta and tofu lasagna are my personal favourites.
The food is good… that can be said. Unfortunately not an actual buffet, it’s pay by weight and I do consider it a pretty expensive place, around $30 per plate on average and I’m usually left not fully satisfied and wanting a second. Would kill for them to offer an actual buffet, even if it was pricy. Please consider it, owners? Always the same or almost the same selection of food items every time, I wish they’d offer new and more interesting things rather than what they always have on rotation Plates and 2 person tables are simply too small, cutlery is weak too. Very crowded and cramped around the buffet especially. Just an annoyance every time
If you are looking for healthy food then this is the place.
This place is amazing! If you love veggies, this place is for you. :)
Yummy! [from omnivore]
For a restaurant who is specialized in serving vegetarian meals, I expected the food to taste amazing. The tofu was hard and tasteless and the hot food got cold by the time I sat down at my table. The cake was ok but not worth the price.
Great vegetarian food! Although the food is great, it is sold by weight and I always like the heavy food. It can add up really fast. Despite that, it is worth it. The food looks so good I always take too much.
Love the buffet at Green Door. Healthy eating just the right size for your appetite. You take as much or as little as you want. No waste! You can eat in or take out. Will be back for sure
The food here is delicious and theres a great variety of options - everyone could find something here to enjoy. Personal favourites have been their mashed potatoes and the cashew cream mushrooms.
If you are vegetarian, or simply want to eat some wholesome, delicious, comforting food, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. From their soups, to their salads, entrees, and finally desserts, everything is fresh and delicious. And, because its self-serve, you take as much as you want of whatever you want, and find your seat. It can get busy, especially on special days, and brunches, so get there early. They also have freezers full of prepared food you can take home and unbaked goods you can take home to bake. Vegetarian options: All vegetarian
A really unique buffet style experience with healthy and homemade options that never disappoint.
Everything here is delicious.
Best vegetarian restaurant in Ottawa!
Green Door is incredible. Lovely space, lovely staff, delicious vegetarian food that tastes fresh. Frequent here often, and always a delight!
One of the best Vegetarian options on Ottawa in terms of quality and Organic ingredients. Highly recommended.
Excellent fresh food. My non vegetarian family just loved the food so many options! Full of flavour! Great quality! Green Door, please start a chain of restaurants if not already planned! Paying by weight consciously makes us avoid food wastage!!
Love this place!
Three stars for this reason: expensive! Otherwise a five, as follows: this is great place for vegans and people who just like good, tasty food. It is very clean, tables and food area. It is nice and bright due to large windows. There is a lot of variety and good selection. Everythings fresh. Good signage for what to do when you walk in (find a seat, head over to the food). About cost: you pay by weight but that weight incudes your dishes. It adds up very quickly. I normally pay $30 per person even though I seat myself, get my own food, pay at the cash on my way out (PS: you can leave your debit/credit card at the cash and add to your bill as you go back and forth and settle when you leave - convenient.) There is a berry compote which is part of the weigh-in system that is absolutely delicious. Way cheaper than selecting one of their slices of baked cooks that each cost around $6.75 a pop! This should be a buffet - even if they charge $30, it would allow you to make selections you really want instead of worrying about how much that final bill will be. Do I recommend? Yes. But if youre budget-conscious, be aware of whats going in your plate(s) and how much.
Loved the food here. Vegetarian options: It is a vegetarian only place Food : 5/5 |
Picked up tofu and vegetables and vegetarian lasagna. Very tasty!
Best food! Organic, clearly labeled for food sensitivity. Child friendly. Huge selection.
Dear Team of the Green Door Restaurant & Bakery, Thank you so much for providing your excellent service to the local neighborhood & community, and to all the people from Ottawa and tourists from around the world who come to your restaurant to enjoy healthy food, pleasant atmosphere, and meet your smiling & welcoming staff. My family and our friends have been your loyal customers for numerous years. I sincerely wish you all the best and much success in your business, for many more years to come. And of course - Thank you for delicious dinner tonight!
Over great place but sometimes low on the selection
Love this spot, but not cheap. Delicious vegan, vegetarian, and other restrictions friendly food. Its a casual vibe, buffet style.
Vegetarian options: Vegetarian Restaurant - lots of selections on the buffet- found it a bit pricey for the style of food and self service buffet and clearance Food
Food is tasty and friendly staff. They should make the pasta leek mushroom more often its so delicious
The mushroom pasta and kimchi rice was so delicious
I took my wife to the green door and everything was so yummy Avocado salad 10/10 Peanut butter tempeh 10/10 Stir fry 10/10 Pasta mushroom 10/10 Definitely coming back. Kudos to the chef
The first and last bastion of vegetarian supremacy in the city. Prices are good, they serve organic wine but they do they go a little heavy on the soy which is to be expected so keep this in mind for those of you who have a soy allergy ... Which is not me .... obviously. Ok yeah I do. Its ok, I go there for the desserts anyways. The nut based cheesecakes are tight (that means good if you arent from the 90s). You certainly feel full once your done eating!
Wonderful vegetarian meal. Its a little pricey!
Lot of greens and healthy choices! Awesome place for food lovers
Not sure why but the humble mashed creamy potatoes and kale is the secret food I always go back for. I hate kale. Unless its in mashed potatoes at the Green Door Vegetarian options: All vegetarian and vegan. Even if its so good you need to ask to confirm
I did take out. Restaurant was clean and bright. Only down side is the price. Great vegan options. They were delicious.
Delicious food, bright and pleasant atmosphere, great location!
Pros: Food is delicious, easy to put your dishes and tray away, kid and baby friendly Cons: - Dunno if the Ac was broken or it was just overly crowded and it couldnt keep up, but I and my husband were dripping sweat and constantly had to wipe ourselves with napkins - I saw a housefly landing on some of the desserts, so that kinda killed some of my appetite - it is indeed kinda expensive - parking is annoying. The back is no longer for customers so you have to park on the street or in this other lot, not sure if you need to pay or not on weekdays - wish the hours opened a bit earlier, even at 11am, 11:30 was tight and crowded for lunch
Since forever, The Green Door has always served up fresh and exciting and inspiring veggie food with so many textures, tastes, and delights! While we dont go often, when we do go, it always is wonderful and this time was no exception! We got take out with some of our favourite salads, and a few desserts. However, once we devoured the always incredible, and got to the desserts, we found ourselves let down. The carrot cake tasted limp, almost wet, with raisins that betray the iconic carrot cake taste. What was going on? Then, the peanut butter chocolate pie, while boasting an excellent filling, the crust was quite frankly awful. So, great food. Average desserts! This time around, of course!
My family and friends have regularly visited Green Door for around ten years now. They serve quality, tasty food at a great price. Many people assume that it would be more expensive here (since the food is organic), but the truth is that it s a lot cheaper than other restaurants in Ottawa (also depends on the amount of food you take). Customers pay by weight, so they can choose their ideal portion of food. My personal favourites include the biscuit, the broccoli and the seaweed salad. I do find that their desserts are pricey, but their cheesecakes have definitely improved in taste. Over the years, their cookies have reduced in size (unfortunately). The staff is super friendly and there is usually a lot of seating. Vegetarian options: Green Door is a vegetarian restaurant. It also has a lot of vegan options.
Every dish we had was fresh and tasty.
Lovely buffet with something for everyone s taste and dietary restrictions.
In my opinion the food is just OK. Ive been to some vegetarian restaurants that totally blew me away but this was not one of them. A tad expensive too. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly
Put down a star as theres no AC, not fun to sweat bullets while eating - Amazing place, so many options, allergen friendly!
Great staff, great food, and decently priced.
A hidden gem. Didn t know what to expect but the moment you step in the door you feel at ease. The service was friendly, and fast. We had the smash burger and the turkey avocado with shoestring fries. Best smash burger I ve ever had and the turkey avocado was made with real turkey, not deli. The lemonade is freshly squeezed. The whole experience was top notch, cannot wait to go back!
We brought friends here and they loved it. The food was amazing as always. The desserts are so good. Staff are so friendly. I highly recommend this place. Food
This is a vegan/vegetarian restaurant where you serve yourself from a wide variety of options and pay by the weight of your plate. Lots of seating, outdoor seating in summer.
This was such a disappointing experience for my family as well as expensive. We spent $66 dollars on 3 plates. That was without any drinks or dessert. It pay by weight, the food was tasteless and basically uneatable. I really dont know how this place has such amazing reviews but honestly the lasagna was disgusting. under the noodle and top layer of cheese was a sea of black mushroom. It looked so disgusting. My husband got severe stomach issues right after and my son puked. My daughter spat out the food and could not even eat it at all. Kids are kids and sometimes are picky but honestly I and my husband are so far from picky and I honestly threw out the food we took with us. What a shame. They cant even provide water with ice. Its luke warm water that sits in the table you choose. You think for somthing this expensive they could have ice water.
I really appreciate what The Green Door represents for the community and just veggie food in general! Always delicious and well-prepared menu items that were made with good intentions + care. The prices are still quite reasonable after many years and the value is incomparable to other veggie restaurants. The other day when I was there, I was really grateful for a back-of-house staff member who went out of her way to explain how the dishes rotate (I was enquiring about one dish in particular as she brought out some other food) and she also made a great suggestion for another option I may like. It s the small details such as these, and offering fresh filtered water, that make The Green Door one of my long-standing favourite restaurants. I ve always been so contented with my meals here and really feel they deserve the success they have
The go-to place for decades for people with food limitations - farm-fresh, organic, vegetarian. Pick your own menu from well-labelled dishes, and take just what you want, not more. A bit crowded, but informal and friendly. Dishes are well prepared and wonderfully tasty, with subdued herbs and spices perfectly balanced for each dish.
Love this place! Always bustling with a great atmosphere and amazing food !! Have been coming for years!
Buffet style vegetarian restaurant. Amazing selection of yummy salads, side dishes, mains and desserts. Very clean. Staff constantly keep the buffet well stocked. Very clean. Have the choice of indoor and outdoor seating.
The fritters are unreal!
Great food, lots of option. Can be a bit pricy if your plate is full. Vegetarian options: Everything is vegetarian Food : 5/5 |
I had dinner at this restaurant last night and I still have abdominal pain from the poorly cooked fiddleheads. I was charged $1 more for my dessert, luckily I looked at my bill.
Delighted to find such a healthy eatery! We thoroughly enjoyed a wide variety of fresh and delicious tasting food and ate at the end of patio with our dog at our feet. Highly recommend!
Such a gem of a restaurant! Delicious food and their pay by weight concept is a hit.
I love this vegetarian restaurant! The Green Door is one of my favourite places in the city. The service and atmosphere is the best! I have been by myself on a number of occasions and have always felt comfortable. It feels like your favourite coffee shop, on a bigger scale. I love the variety of tables that can seat singles, couples and larger groups. The restaurant is eco friendly, using reusable plastic dishes for take out. The food is set out in a buffet style, where people serve themselves and weigh their plates to pay. There are so many vegetarian options to choose from, everything is well labeled and allergen information (gluten, dairy, nuts ) is provided on everything. There s a hot and a cold buffet. Both are filled with delicious varieties. And the dessert buffet! There are a variety of gluten free and vegan pies and cakes. Try the vegan cheesecake, I promise you ll love it!
Just awesome!
Friendly, cafeteria style restaurant with a huge salad bar and lots of delicious entres. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: Loads of vegan and vegetarian options. Kid-friendliness: Totally kid friendly.
The best vegetarian spot in Ottawa!
Visited this beautiful restaurant to celebrate my friends birthday. Delicious food, good service. Their cake is mouth watering. They have a large buffet spread and definitely must visit. However i didnt like their idea of weighing the food before eating and then charging accordingly. I would suggest take charge fix amount and let people have what they want and as much as they want but charge double if there is wastage on plate.
Very good food but 100% overpriced. People are taking advantage of the population out here
I am unaware of another vegetarian/vegan restaurant with such a wide selection where literally every option is a hit. Love the concept of a serve yourself hot and cold bar. Although prices are a bit high, the food is fresh and delicious. It is our favourite place to eat in Ottawa, no competition.
Food is amazing. Restaurant is cafeteria style so you go in, choose the foods you want and then pay by weight and you find your own table. They keep costs down by asking customers to clear tables and have easy set up for this. They re friendly and food selection and quality is amazing. You don t need to be vegetarian to enjoy this food. Parking: There is some street parking but not a lot. There is a paid parking lot very close to the restaurant
Food is very good, however it can be quite expensive as some items are heavy (ie: avocado salad, squash, etc) and you pay by weight. At lunch hour the place is quite crowded and tables are very close to each other. Good desserts but again if you are not careful it can be quite expensive for your selection. Vegetarian options: Several options, on rotation. Would like to see a bit different items in addition to the standard, same vegan dishes.
Very good food.
Excellent food, cafeteria self serve also very nice, recycling program for take outs annoying and complicated. Dont tap the bottom of my empty container!
Always yummy! Sweet potatoes & kale salad were great. I recommend sharing the spanakopita, it s big and heavy. Try herbed tahini with the lentil patty. Desserts are awesome ! Especially love the Berry pies. Can t go wrong
Its always a delight to go for lunch here. Food is always good and occasionally theres something new I havent tried before, like a seaweed salad! Its self serve but the cashiers are friendly and when it gets super busy theres a hostess to reserve a table for you as it becomes available. You can go get your delicious food without worrying that someone else has taken your table! Dietary restrictions: Some dishes are egg free.
Food tastes great, price too expansive to be full
It s one of my favourite places! I love healthy food and this place consistently delivers. Sure it s not a fancy place, but it surely is always yummy. The lentil balls, Avacado salad, broccoli salad, tofu and broccoli and french beans are a few of my favourites.
Incredible food with a wonderful loving staff who care deeply about their food and creating community. Recently they changed their parking meter to an app based model. This is very sad as it presuppose customers have 1) a credit card 2) a smart phone and 3) a data plan. Its a real shame that they have abandoned their inclusive ethic in this matter. 20/5 stars except for the parking which feels capitalist and dystopian.
Amazing food options, so happy to find a place with lots of vegetarian and vegan foods
I have to say, even though I am a carnivore, there are some good dishes. Filling, too.
Amazing selection of delicious vegetarian and vegan food. Kind of pricey but worth it.
Really fresh The gluten free desserts are to die for Vegetarian options: Wide choice Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free
Classic, the food is sooooo good if there was a option for 10 stars I would give it
Absolutely love this place! Very good selection of a variety of vegetarian dishes. All are very nicely presented and prepared. There is both a hot and cold food selection. I appreciate this type of buffet as you pay by weight so there is no food waste. Also, why should I pay the same price as someone else who may eat double the amount of food that I do. On average I have paid $18.00 for lunch. Very reasonable considering the quality of food that is available. Excellent service by staff ! Parking: You will find two-hour parking spots on the side streets.
A really nice spot with great food. I find its a bit crowded these days (understandably) so it may be best to book a table to avoid a wait, at least in the evening. My only gripe is that they dont allow people to book tables unless its a larger group. This makes getting a table difficult at times Wheelchair accessibility: No ramp required and I believe there is a disabled washroom on the same floor to avoid stairs. The only issue may be navigating the restaurant in a chair when the restaurant is full.
Love all the options. My favourite is the avocado salad.
Always delicious food here. Being able to make up your own plate means you can try as many dishes as you like in whatever quantity you like. Definitely my fav place to eat.
Always pleased with the food
The food was very good and fresh, the price was reasonable. I found the place a bit chaotic. I notice some people were grabbing tables that were not theirs. Children taking bread buns from the food area and putting them back in the pile.Maybe more staff is needed especially on busy nights to deal with these issues. Overall good experience .
I feel really bad for all the people claiming how amazing this place is, because it just means Ottawa is severely lacking in good vegetarian/vegan dining options. You poor things. Everything was solidly mediocre. I can, and do, make most of their selections at home for 1/10 of what theyre charging. The final affront is being prompted to tip when the dine-in price is more than takeout, you serve yourself AND clean up after yourself. Pay your staff a living wage with all the money youre raking in from charging $23 for a tiny portion of chickpeas, rice and bok choy with a drink. The door isnt even green.
A cafeteria/buffet, pay by weight style restaurant. The food is high quality & delicious. The Green Door is much beloved & often quite busy. Grab your table, then your food & enjoy. Vegetarian options: This is a vegetarian restaurant. Many but not all dishes are vegan. Labels for vegan options are clear, staff are friendly & happy to help.
Great for light lunch or full supper.
My favorite is a strawberry shortcake that is very tasty and healthy... The mash potatoes are so creamy and delicious .. Vegetarian options: Its a vegetarian restaurant.
As long as youre aware that there is no service here - its buffet style (not all you can eat though), the lineups can be long, the seating is somewhat like eating in a cafeteria, and its quite pricey - then you wont be disappointed because the food is DELICIOUS!!! The quiche and spanokopita are my personal favorites, and keep me coming back.
The food is fresh, organic, healthy, and delicious. Consistently great experience here. Cafeteria style, weight-based pricing. Vegetarian options: Its a vegetarian restaurant so no surprises here! Not sure about vegan options... Kid-friendliness: This is a very open restaurant all age groups come here. Probably not good for a kids birthday arty, but a family outing is perfect.
The food here is super good however there are very few vegan options here. There is a lot that is vegetarian and a good amount that s gluten free, however if you are vegan you ll be eating side dishes for the most part. Vegetarian options: There are plenty of vegetarian options however the vegan selection is limited
This is my go to for delicious vegetarian fare. All the dishes are beautifully prepared. There are both hot and cold offerings. The dessert buffet is to die for!
Hands down, the best vegetarian food anywhere (take it from a big beef lover). A fixed stop any time I am around Ottawa.
Best vegeterian restaurant on the planet!
We make it a tradition to come here as a family, and have been coming here for at least a decade. The vegetarian options are absolutely delicious! One of the best options on the menu is the lasagna, which needs a recipe book! The atmosphere is cozy, although kind of small for the demand they get. They also have lots of low carb desert options, which makes it great for those on a diet. Overall, food is terrific, the atmosphere is inviting, and we will keep coming here for as long as this place is around. Vegetarian options: That s what this place is all about. Everything is vegetarian. Dietary restrictions: Great for those on a diet. That s the main focus of the menu. Kid-friendliness: They have some friendly kid options, but the menu is mainly focused for adults. Wheelchair accessibility: Exceptional wheelchair access.
Awesome coffee...vegetarian heaven! Lots of light. perfect for a meal or a snack! Vegetarian options: Completely veg..
Great vegan restaurant with a cool vibe. Great buffet with extensive salads and hearty warm dishes. The lasagna is fantastic. Good selection of desserts. Highly recommended!
Love this restaurant. Best vegan selection and quality in Ontario. Fabulous desserts!
Even though it was about 25 years ago that I had been here last, I found the food to be as excellent as it was then, and they run a very tight ship because even tho it was absolutely packed with a waiting list, they made sure that everything was still perfectly made, presented on the buffet, and so yummy and fresh! The only drawback was the cost. I had less than half a bowl of soup, a gf biscuit, and small portions of broccoli slaw and beets and that came to over $20 with a tip. Then I had a chocolate mousse and a cup of triple berry compote and that came to almost $10. I would still highly recommend it here tho because imo, once every so often, its really worth spending the money to eat here
Great spot for delicious vegetarian food. No longer a pile in seating free-for-all, for better or worse. Probably better but there was a certain charm to sharing big tables in the past. More space for the food now and a big variety of options.
What a great vegetarian option for someone who likes to taste a little bit of everything. It was bustling when I arrived, but there was still a table ready for me. I had a little bit of everything, but I couldnt choose a dessert so I will have to go back and have a dessert Buffet next time :-) Parking: I parked across the street at a paid parking lot, it was $8 for 2 hours which seems excessive but there is plenty of street parking.
Always delicious food. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian dishes. Parking: Paid parking lot only accepts coins.
Having seen the high ratings and how popular they were, perhaps my expectations were a bit high as I didnt find anything particularly remarkable about the food. It was ok at best compared to other vegan/vegetarian restaurants I have been to. The prices are really expensive as well for what it is as a single plate of a normal amount of food can set you back around $30. Combined with self serve and not so friendly cashiers, makes it a bit difficult to see the value proposition.
I m not a vegetarian or vegan, but I could be if I lived closer. My wife & I always stop at Green Door when visiting Ottawa. Amazing food.
Great selection of food and incredible flavours!!
Everything was absolutely great! The food is tasty, buffet well-stocked, options aplenty. Its frequented by many long-term supporters of the restaurant, has a casual, comfy vibe - will definitely be coming back.
Love this place. Consistent and delicious.
The Green Door serves delicious vegetarian food. I like their buffet style where you choose what you want to eat and the quantities of each. Since you pay by weight you are careful to only choose what you will eat, minimizing food waste.
The mostttt delicious vegan buffet. Seriously so good. I ve been here a few times. I d highly recommend the avocados, mashed potatoes, and tofu stir fry. Their desserts are not that good, to be honest (and priced quite highly).
Ive been here multiple times a year for many years now, just to have my fave dishes like the seaweed salad, quiche, and mushroom salads. Yet I also keep an eye out for rotating or new dishes. Customer service is amazing, and the chefs in the kitchen are so nice. Desserts are delicious. I believe some are made without sugar, and sweetened with maple syrup. Cakes and pies are a hit. Cookies and brownies can improve, to be chewier and moist rather than crumbly. Of course the selling feature of restaurants is taste, which means sometimes restaurants add ingredients that sacrifice health. In the case of this restaurant, quality ingredients and taste are there. If it werent for the cost of prepared food, I bet I can come here every day.
Really great.
Only picked up a gift card for someone else but bought the frozen soup. It was delicious. Although I am not vegetarian I would recommend the soups.
Always love going to the Green Door for dinner.
Im not a vegetarian. This was my wife and Is first experience with vegetarian dishes. What a tastebud party. So many flavors. The buffet concept allows for tasting so many things, and we worked hard on that aspect (We did good). We liked erything we took. Well be back for sure...
Amazing spot for a healthy meal.
I m not someone that would typically go to a vegetarian restaurant. The food was exceptional! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and buffet style of the restaurant. Will go back again for sure.
Always excellent! Great price, great quality!
Not as many hot options as in past. Food lukewarm. Salads ok. Tasteless dessert. Sorry Green Door!
Love everything about it.
Vegetarian options: Top class veggies Food
Best vegetarian/vegan resto in Ottawa! And its been here a while ^^ The cooking is so healthful and stellar, even if you are not vegetarian youre doing yourself a disservice if youre not checking it out :) The desserts are also incredible
Consistently good.
We love this food!!! They make healthy taste so good! All the tables were set so nicely with fresh flowers and the atmosphere was so lovely, peaceful and bright!
Expensive for value, 32.00 per kg food. Salad choices ok, hot food outdated selections. Cake extra charge. Took a spanikopita on plate charged for weight then charged a surchage?? Put a small scoop of berry sauce on cheesecake which we paid extra 6.75 for and got charged dbl for a scoop of sauce Please make signs indicating your rules as there were none so it appears you overcharged us. Food tasted ok, not great, decor ok, simple, beverage choices poor, nothing we cared for. Overall not sure I would return and we are vegetarians since 15 years and are always looking for places to eat. We paid 47.00 for a not full plate of food and a 1/2 plate of food and a slice of cheesecake with no beverages. Go figure
Great place for delicious and healthy vegetarian food. Self-serve and lots of variety.
One of the best restaurant I have visited. Being vegetarian, this is the best option for me and my family. May options, food is really good and tasty. Its little expensive, but they provide the best food. Had a party with my friends and family everyone liked and enjoyed!!
Best veggie restaurant in Ottawa! Love this place! Highly recommended restaurant model.
Everything I ate was delicious and well priced.
Arguably Ottawas best, long standing, vegan buffet. Located on a quaint section on main street, within walking distance of both the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River. Food is wholesome, tasty, locally sourced and delicious.
That was my first time and my last time at this restaurent, they cheat with the weight and when I tried to ask about the price and how they charge, they were arrogant and made me feel bad about myself. I paid $33.58 for a quick meal « a small size soup with a small biscuit and a little bit of salad » for 1 person only !!!??? They are a bunch of thieves !
Incredible variety of hot and cold vegan and vegetarian food. Really clean and neat. Friendly service. Loaded our plates with delicious vegan food. The treats are exceptional. Feels large and spacious with indoor as well as outdoor seating.
A little pricey but delicious and super fresh
What a nice restaurant with excellent food and friendly service!
SOOOOOO good omg You need to be trying everything here or you are doing it WRONG. Standouts: AVOCADO SALAD!!! Pesto pasta Mashed potatoes n kale Asian style veg stirfry A full bowl of the cashewcream Peanut butter choco pie
Always happy with the variety of this vegetarian restaurant. Friendly atmosphere. Perfect for meeting friends after work. Concept well suited to families.
Great plant based options! Love the pay by weight idea!
I have loved the green door for years- but I have been finding the food as of late to be way over salted- and for the frozen soup the attention to detail is missing- I bought the two bean chilli and all the vegetable pieces were bigger than the beans (1 inch plus) and raw upon thawing and warming the soup.
The quality of the food has not been up to standard as of late. The vegetable lasagne I ordered only had 2 layers of noodles and was filled with spaghetti to make up for the missing noodles. It was soggy and gross. The onion in the spanakopita was chunky and ruined the texture and flavour. I am sad to see that another reviewer has also noticed an issue with consistency.
Tremendous
Interesting restaurant buffet with high level of attention to food allergies and sensitivities. Check-out of food via weight or size is confusing to first time diner. My Caesar salad was forgettable flavour wise, but likely the taste was a function of non traditional ingredients. There were no croutons, cheese or meat/protein in the salad. Vegetarian options: They are attentive to food preferences. Dietary restrictions: They are knowledgeable. Kid-friendliness: Very good with kids. Wheelchair accessibility: Some restaurant aisles are wide enough for a wheelchair.
Our family has been going to Green Door for almost thirty years. Theres a reason a restaurant like this lasts for so long. They use good quality ingredients and wholesome cooking. We arent even vegetarians, but we still appreciate the restaurant. Unfortunately, theres been a turn in quality, or more accurately, consistency. Our family jokes that the B Team was on tonight when we have a meal there that just isnt up to par. As an example, last night, Nov 25th, we went for supper before going to a play. Everything was under seasoned. The mashed potatoes were coagulated with big pieces of runny/watery kale running through. The gelled fruit dessert wasnt gelled, but a watery sweet with a few berries on the bottom. The shortbread, delicious last year, was soft and tasteless. A bland cookie more than shortbread. The beet salad was flavourless. We still go because its almost an institution in our family, but it would be wonderful if there could be a little more attention to consistently putting out the same delicious food day after day. Vegetarian options: The whole restaurant is a vegetarian restaurant. Dietary restrictions: They label foods well for food intolerances (nuts/gluten/dairy/soy etc..).
Staff does a great job of crowd control. Pleasant surroundings and always top quality food. The buffet is replenished promptly. Food : 5/5
Cozy and warm atmosphere. Would have been a much more enjoyable experience with the addition of some nice holiday music for the holiday. Nothing pairs with vegetarian food like Christmas music during the holidays.
We went to the restaurant first time. The server was so rude.
Stunningly delicious... Heavy on flavour and ample variety to choose from. The seaweed salad is top.
The food is delicious and very varied for vegetarians and vegans. However, I found it a little expensive.
You serve yourself but great choice and quality
Healthy. Delicious. Huge variety. Yummy desserts. Free parking (machine is broken). Great atmosphere inside. It is a bit expensive. Watch out with your plates. Especially if you decide to whoop it up.
Always tasty and fresh, and reasonably priced. Update: Went back after not eating there for a few years. Just as great as ever. Food : 5/5
The food is healthy, fresh and tasty. Nice vibe. People are nice. Been going there for years and its been consistent every time. This is a feel good place.
What is with the plastic containers!!! For a vegetarian, organic, healthy statement they sure missed their message by using plastic take-away containers. Sure they may be reusable but that just means thicker plastic. They eventually end up in the dump or ocean. Take a look at the beaches around the world. Use aluminum foil containers with the paper lid just like before. Plastic is forever!!!
Incredible vegetarian food for a decent price! Buffet style, grab what you like and pay by weight. Highly suggest eating here if youre in town.
