Vietnamese Street Food + Cocktails. Taking traditional Vietnamese recipes and adding a modern twist. Hip dine-in and drink experience.
If you want true Vietnamese homemade food this is the restaurant to go to . The atmosphere food service and cocktails are amazing. Spring rolls, Tacos and Wonton meal, were so favourable, not too mention the Old Fashioned Cocktail. CN our host was great, very friendly. Definitely a five star.
Super cute and intimate spot perfect for grabbing cocktails with friends! I went recently and our bartender Hannah was super patient and personable with us :) Would recommend! (haven't tried their food yet though)
Food was tasty. Portion is too little for the price. The soup was not too hot but delicious. Washroom is clean but they can improve more on hiding unwanted clutter in the store to be able to achieve complete experience. Service is good but since they are understaff, the food came late.
Tried this restaurant for the first time today. Everything was delicious. I have been wanting to try Saigon, and this experience did not dissappoint. The aesthetics, the music, the atmosphere was just perfect for a date night. Jason was amazing, he took my allergies seriously and recommended some great eats. Everyone working at the restaurant was welcoming and kind. We enjoyed every moment here and we would definitely make the trek back from Toronto to eat here once again. The pho was absolutely amazing!
Used to be my favorite place. The food quality dropped since our last visit. The beef was chewy, hard. Used to melt im your mouth and the sauce was incredible..... Not the same. But the big let down was the tartare. Weird texture, color and taste. Looks like cat food! Sorry but just not like it used to be.
Served warm water but immediately was given big cup of ice when asked. There were no line up during dinner hour which was nice since we were seated immediately. The food came out one at a time, with 15-20 minutes in between eat dish which made it awkward for people eating as one person would finish eating their meal before the others even started to eat. We ended up just sharing everything instead so that no one felt left out. I feel like they are catering too much to the Western population by not adding traditional aromatics and spices, they kind of missed the authentic Vietnamese flavours and spices in my opinion. They’re not prepared for big groups, they put so much effort in the presentation that performance is hindered once a big group orders. The table beside us got a drink for free since the wait was so long; that was incredibly nice of restaurant to do that. It was obvious that tables around us were getting restless though from the repetitive apologies and long waits. For the tartar, the shrimp cracker was under fried and the beef didn’t taste the freshest as it had a sour aftertaste. The seasoning was nice though, was a very subtle seasoning. The papaya salad did not have enough papaya but mainly being pickled carrots and mango. The pickling was not traditional flavouring, but more a strong vinegar taste. The Shrimp was nicely flavoured and cooked, really sweet and savoury. Biggest complaint was that there were no traditional spices such as shallots, peppers, and cilantro. They added mint instead of basil which was disappointing. The chicken wings took a total of 45 minutes to come out and I think it’s because they left it in the fryer and forgot about it. It was difficult to chew and swallow because of how dry and over cooked it was. Both sauces were incredibly delicious though, and I would buy this in bulk if it was cooked correctly. The taco pork belly was awesome and the veggies were a perfect match for the salty/savoury meat. The beef taco had similar flavour but cooked a lot more poorly, it was dry and the burnt end of the beef was difficult to chew. We all agreed that the braised pork belly on rice was the best. It actually tasted authentic but it was not braised though, more just cooked and reduced in its own sauce on high heat. Would come back just for this dish though. A big thanks to our wonderful waitresses, Breanna and Alyssa, they made it such a great experience and were incredibly helpful.
One of the most amazing experiences you could ask for. The quality of food and service is beyond exceptional. This is fine dining food with great prices. If you are downtown Ottawa definitely a spot you want to check out. Jason the owner is down to earth and goes above and beyond.
great restaurant with super friendly service. our spring rolls were on the table within minutes and we both enjoyed our meals thoroughly. there was a nice variety of veggies in the stir fries and they were cooked to perfection.. nice and crispy. definitely worth a visit.
Food is bland and taste bad. Not to mention it s overpriced given small portions
One of our current go-tos! Always pleasant service! Food
Great place for interesting food, cocktails and atmosphere!
Disappointed to try and have my birthday dinner here only to show up to the restaurant closed when the hours online say its open. This has been a common experience here. I love their food but have only managed to go once because things like this often happen
Sick resto, good chill music
Very nice place ! I tried their new stir fried pho and it was worth it. Very relax ambiance even with the frequent in&outs Vegetarian options: The menu is vegan with meat as options. Dietary restrictions: Peanut free menu
Lovely experience, with super tasty dishes and very friendly staff. The beef carpaccio and braised pork belly are stunning
This place is a gem. The food is delicious and the drinks are unique, strong and flavourful. We recommend the sliders and the Saigon Mai Tai - theyre phenomenal! But really, everything we had was amazing!
Had a pleasant dinner at this simple restaurant. Nicely presented food, nice service. Very grateful to the staff, who were so kind when we forgot a hat and had it ready for us when we came back to get it.
Small restaurant with a limited menu, but the dishes are excellent. Well-crafted classic cocktails, with homemade ingredients to give them a personal touch. You absolutely have to try the braised pork belly and the sliders, tender and delicious. The cocktail for 2 to share was also a great experience. The staff is extremely pleasant. We will go back there for sure!
We keep returning for the chrysanthemum-vodka cocktail
Pho Bo was excellent. Nice little restaurant with very friendly and warm service. The rice platter with grilled beef was also very good. We all disagreed a little concerning the spring roll. Allover very good experience. Recommended place. 4.5 Points.
Poor service,
Price is high and bad service.
Delicious will definitely be going back for more
Had a great time here tonight. The staff were extremely friendly, the food was excellent (notably the pork belly), and the cocktails were delicious (try the ume sour!). If you havent tried it you definitely should!
We didnt eat but stopped in for drinks, the old fashion was amazing, the bartender made an off the menu drink for my wife which was amazing.
Run to this place!! We stumbled upon Saigon, went in for a drink and we were thoroughly impressed. We were greeted by a personable bar twnder who is a competitive mixologist and specializes in unique infusions that you wont fund anywhere else. We had the cresanthemum tea cocktail which was so light and refreshing. We alsi had the Old Fashion but this no ordinary old fashioned. It has essence of star anise and cinnamon, garnised with mint and orange - It does not disappoint. The bartender happily made me a drink, off the menu, which is the photo attached. It was possibly the best drink Ive ever had and the drizzle design is dual purpose for a wonderfully beautiful scent and umami flavor with every sip - fantastic! The design of the bar and green velvet stools are nice. The front of the establishment has a glass opening wall, perfect for nice weather people watching! We did not eat but several people around us were and the food looked incredible accompanied by glowing reviews from those eating. The Fairmont sent patrons there with the message Saigon IS THE PLACE for a great cocktail and its an accurate recommendation that Id make to anyone. The cocktails are pricey but you get what youre paying for and you realize this as you watch the detail and different quality, unique ingredients going into each creation. Just go
Excellent food !!! A hidden gem, must try !!!
Just had an amazing dinner at Saigon with my husband! We ordered the sliders, the pork belly, beef pho, and the fried wontons - everything was delicious. Highly recommend the sliders especially! The cocktails were also great - they all had a fun new take on some classics. And to top it off, everything was reasonably priced! Highly recommend if you re looking for good food and good drinks at a good price.
Food was great but it was a little expensive.
Great service and food , the cat robot waiter was my favourite part
We went for our first time tonight and the waiter was amazing and the food and drinks were great as well.
Ive ordered takeout from this place a few times. The food usually tastes ok but... They forget the fish sauce 75% of time time with your vermicelli bowl, rendering it bland and tasteless but also very difficult to get a refund or credit for because its just one component but a very crucial one that makes the dish taste good. Its like if you ordered pizza and there was no sauce, doesnt taste right but impossible to get a refund for cuz sir we delivered you a pizza type of logic. Tried phoning, no one answers. Last time they wrapped my salad rolls in cellophane and just pulling them apart practically destroyed them both because they were basically glued together. Decent food ruined by minor mistakes
Great spot for Vietnamese tapas. Love that they have an option for a small noodle soup.
Worst food ever
The braised pork belly and beef tartare are my go to. The small pho is also very delicious. The portions might look smaller but the prices are pretty decent and the food is so delicious so no complaints there. The cocktails are also innovative and delicious, my favourite is the Spill the tea.
The music playlist here is a bop.
Really chill vibes and great music. We had some tasteful cocktails when we went. The Tacos (beef & pork especially) where also very good! The staff was also very friendly, would recommend!
Ottawa has needed a place like this for a long time! Cant go wrong with any of the drinks, but the mai tai and mangos in the market are particular favourites of mine. Beef skewers vermicelli plate and the wings are also not to be missed!
Amazing and delicious food, and fun and creative cocktails. A great date night out. Just kind of noisy.
I will come again. Our experience was great! Thanks!!
Came in for the patio and a drink. The choice of drinks is quite wide. Had a couple of appetizers - shrimp skewers were delicious. Nice place.
Very nice atmosphere and good service. The food was too salty for my liking but I enjoyed that the portions were reasonable and it was fresh. A good option for vietnamese in the Market.
The saigon sliders were so flavourful and tender and the fries were the perfect crispiness. The fries came with two dips and one of them was the best dip I ever had. They have a mocktail menu and I really enjoyed the lychee one. Overall really enjoyed my experience.
Loved the spot! Went with a few other friends and had a blast! The food is good and freshly prepared. The service is good as well, but the bar tending is why we went. Their drinks are some of the best around. They have all your classics, but please have some of their signature drinks. You wont regret it!
I had a great lunch there. Exactly the vietnamese taste I was looking for. Im never disappointed. I recommand big time!
Wheelchair accessibility: NOT ACCESSIBLE, stairs needed to go to bathroom downstairs Food
Great spot for cocktails and good service
Best pork belly I ve ever had. Nomnom. Everything was fresh & prepared beautifully.
Very disappointed with the food. I guess if you want good food, Fridays and Saturdays are the days to eat there.
The food was a little pricey but very savoury and sweet. The Viet Coffee was really good (ask for the Pandan one since it doesnt show on their menu) like the one in my picture ! I really liked the atmosphere, bathrooms were kept very clean. Overall 4/5 stars.
Amazing food and ready good price!
Old review... see update below:My new favorite Taco place. If your in the market give it a try. Good food, good drinks and awesome service! Update June 24 2023: This place used to be 5 stars, but now the quality of the food and service just isnt there... Taco sub par and chewy and pork belly not like it used to be...
Food: We ordered the pork belly on the appetizer menu, phõ and a chicken (?) rice plate. Was pleasantly surprised with the pork belly dish which came with rice. Tasted better than both main dishes and definitely recommend ordering it. The one phõ was okay, so was the rice plate. The ice cube in my drink was really big, but it was still refreshing and tasty I think they re probably better for light bites and not the mains they have on there, you can tell because the selection is small.
Had a great experience for dinner and drinks here with friends. The menu looked great, there were some interesting cocktails on offer, the atmosphere was cool and nice but laid back, and the service was really excellent. Would definitely recommend to friends and will return. The owner mentioned he might trial brunch which I d be excited to try! Will be back.
First time ever trying Vietnamese food. I had a good experience. Thanks Parking: Lots of parking at the heart of the market. Food : 5/5 |
We love the food and atmosphere. Service was excellent. Management was nice. Good location. Definitely will come back the next time we visit Ottawa.
My fav place to eat in Ottawa! The food, drinks, ambiance, music and service are all amazing. I love bringing or sending friends here! Guaranteed great experience :) highly recommend!
I went here the other night with a friend for a drink and they were amazing(we got the mojitos and some shots that the owner whipped up) ! great ambiance and good music. The staff was friendly. I would definitely recommend and will be coming back next to try their food.
Went during happy hour. Good food and reasonable prices. I think its best to have a few items tapas style than to go for a meal. We had a slider, fries, braised pork belly and a few tacos. Everything was good.
Pho is perhaps the best I ve ever had. Good cocktail list, recommend!
Amazing restaurant, one of my favourite restaurant to go to. Will take my employees there
No peanut sauce with the rice wraps and noodles where in tiny peace s right as I received my order
Excellent food. Mostly small plates. Try the sliders. Great cocktails, too!
Amazing ambiance!! If you love RNB that s your place . Food is great, the alcohol is Tasty and the people working there are just fabulous! Food : 5/5
Vermicelli was good, meat was very tasty, and good customer service. Small portions for price, no bean sprouts. I ve never seen vermicelli served on a plastic plate before.
Best spot in town, good food, good vibes, great service highly recommended !!!!
Saigon Restaurant is a fantastic place for everyone who admires Vietnamese cuisine, funky atmosphere and signature cocktails. My daughter used to work in Saigon Restaurant and she introduced me to this place. Guess what happened? Im a regular client now! I love their fresh menu. Try their Bo Tai Tartare ( I think one of the best tartare in Ottawa) or Saigon Taco, or Braised Pork Belly. Another round to applauses to CN, who is creative mind and stands behind of each Saigons exclusive cocktail! Did I already said that I love this place? Yesss! I LOVE it!
A great place for a cocktail! Wonderful staff and good food. I will be returning.
This is the $19 large beef pho, I can finish it in 1 second. Also, the table is sticky and uncomfortable.
Great service. Lovely cocktails. And good and reasonably priced food! Great for an outing or a date
The food is good and well priced. We came on a very busy night on a long weekend where the waitress was alone to serve multiple large groups, and the poor woman nearly ran her legs off. She worked harder than Ive seen any wait staff work before. Props to her and the staff that managed to do it all short staffed. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if youre looking for people who care about their business and customers.
Hidden gem. Solid concept, the cocktails are inventive and the food slaps.
Delicious, great ambiance and amazing service! This was our first time back at Saigon in years and we can t wait to go back for more! Thanks for a beautiful evening!
This place is incredible! We had such an amazing time! The service was on point! We were recommended cocktails and they were so beautiful and delicious. AND then there was the food, Wow, it was so good. The tartar was like nothing we had had before, The wings were Crispy and full of flavour and the skewers on the combination dish were melt in your mouth. We went on a Saturday night and the music was fun (throwback 00 s). We will definitely be back! Highly recommend!
So fun! My friend and I enjoyed tasting Vietnamese food like no other restaurant in Ottawa! The tartare, skewers, chicken wings, tacos and papaya salad were excellent, as were the sour drinks we indulged in! The service really stood out, everyone was so welcoming and friendly.
Amazing service, great food and drinks
Really a very good restaurant. A huge improvement with the previous owner. Not pricey. Very good food.
Good price, good good but not very authentic.
The nachos here are like nothing youve ever had before, and the fries are perfect. My favorite drink ever is the watermelon sangria and I cant wait to come back for more. A bit pricey (not terrible) but its definitely worth it.
A more mature and relaxed atmosphere, great for conversation and hanging out with friends. The cocktails are well worth the price, and the food is well priced and good! Try the tea!
We had an excellent meal and wonderful service here. Will be back and highly recommend this restaurant!
4-4.5 stars. Amazing place! They serve a variety of Vietnamese fusion and Asian fusion food and drinks. The food was almost like tapas style food. The atmosphere was also amazing, bit of a mix between cozy and lively. I went in a group of 4, and we all really enjoyed the food and drinks. The sliders were absolutely phenomenal and the braised pork rice was homey as I ve had it from my family. Skewers we re good as well, but slightly burnt in some fat sections. Mushroom soup was amazing, the flavour was unreal. The only issue was that it was a bit too spicy. We also all really loved the Ume Sour there, it was great twist on the classic whiskey sour. I felt that service was a bit slow, but they seemed understaffed. No complaints on our end towards the server, she was awesome! Keep it up chef, we ll definitely visit again!
Had the stir fry vegetables with vermicelli and salad rolls. Everything was so so good and so were the prices. The hostess was lovely as well :)
I chose this spot for an afternoon gathering for my colleagues on a weeknight because the patio is gorgeous and the small plates would work for pre-dinner. Service was outstanding, they proposed a menu in advance and things rolled so smoothly (but I ate too much to have dinner later!) I loved each dish, sliders were spiced so nicely. Skewers were a huge hit. We were too stuffed to try the mushrooms but I cant wait until next time. Cocktails were absolutely incredible too. Having lived in Shanghai and tried cocktails in over 15 countries, Im familiar with bustling nightlife spots and this one was just the right amount of casual ambiance while keeping flavours and service top notch. LOVED IT!
Skewers and pork belly taco s were amazing. Cocktails were very creative and perfectly executed. Great spot
Beautiful spot for incredible food and drink. The staff catered to my team so well! So pleased we chose Saigon to host my teams first in-person social event in months. We run a busy office so it was so nice to kick back and not have to worry about a thing. I recommend Saigon for your future work parties - they pre-selected our menu to approve in advance so we were just able to enjoy eachother and not worry about a thing. Loved every bite and every cocktail! Nice selection of beer too!
Great food, great drinks, friendly staff! All around great experience
Great location, great staff and great food. Strongly recommend you check it ou!
I really wanted to like this restaurant. The servers were friendly but it took 1.5-2 hours for us to receive our food.
We love Vietnamese food and wanted to try something downtown. The food was ok, nothing special, but the services was extremely slow. We understand busy times, but they brought one dish at a time (and they are not hard to prepare). We had to ask all the time for water refills. Disappointed.
We were there on May 21...we were excited to have dinner...but the food was so far from what we had in the pictures and service was so poor... we had to wait almost an hour for our order...
We visited on May 21st. We waited for an hour for our food. We asked the server to cancel our order because it was taking too long but they ended up bringing it to our table and it was ridiculously prepared. We are very disappointed with the service.
The vegetarian spring rolls are very good. It was around 15$ for two spring rolls and one taco (happy hour times). I find that it s a bit overpriced for regular times. The place is cute and they have a nice open front patio.
Unreal food, so fresh and such a great twist on Vietnamese cuisine. Love the VIBE. Cocktails are epic! Have been a handful of times and looking forward to going back again soon!
Had an amazing time at Saigon!!!! The food is unbelievable, I ve tried everything on the menu and you can t go wrong! My favourites are the sliders, the wings and the skewers. I m not sure what I love more the food or the drinks?!?!? Spill the tea and the other assortment of cocktails are so delicious. A must try restaurant in Ottawa!
We love Saigon for date night or larger get togethers! The food is amazing and fresh, our favourite is the beef tartare, tacos and wings, cocktails are phenomenal too. Service has always been amazing. Saw those 1 star reviews, give them a break! Everywhere has been slammed and short staffed since the pandemic, especially over a long weekend.
If you re looking for delicious Vietnamese tapas, you ve got to try Saigon! I was so happy to hear they recently reopened - I want to try everything on their new menu! It s located in the heart of the Byward Market, such a great spot for yummy apps, fun cocktails, great music and amazing ambiance! My husband & I love sitting on their patio - inside is nice too, such warm, welcoming vibes! It s one of my favourite places down town Ottawa! You have to try their mouth-watering combo skewers and their sliders - they re SO good! Their customer service is top notch as well - always so friendly & super helpful! Thank you Saigon Staff! I definitely recommend checking it out! Oh! The Spill the Tea is such a fun spin on tea! A must try!
Fantastic Intimate Atmosphere, Excellent Customer Service, Amazing Food for sharing in a large group, and the Drinks are out of this world! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in the downtown area!
This place has some of the tastiest food and drinks in Ottawa! Their new menu is a creative twist on Vietnamese cuisine (even their drinks all incorporate this in mind). I was able to sit on their patio and I loved the vibe they have going with the inside/ outside dining. Their meat skewers were such a hit with my kids and I will definitely be back! Its a great place to hang out with friends, date night and also super family friendly. Saigon Ottawa is definitely a gem in the Market.
Love this place! Amazing food, creative cocktails and great vibe. I really appreicated the services and the owner was nice enough to introduce himself and check to see how our evening is going. Highly recommended.
One of my favourite restaurants in the market! I highly recommend the sliders, skewers and all of the cocktails. Can t wait to come back and try the new additions to the menu!
Delicious food! The tacos are the best I have ever tasted
Had awesome drinks and food there this weekend! Espresso Martini was great. The fish sauce wings I could eat a couple of pounds of those...great vibes! Will come again
Such a great vibe!! The perfect place to grab dinner and drinks. Service was awesome. Everyone was so nice. Espresso martinis are a must try. Sliders and wings were delicious. Would definitely come back!
Delicious and creative cocktails. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Can t wait to come back!
Good vibes, great drinks and even better food. Loved the staff. Will definitely be back!
Awesome place to go for drinks. Music was on point and the staff were super helpful and friendly. Would definitely go back.
Perfect spot for great cocktails and authentic Vietnamese food. Staff was helpful and service was quick. My top picks Any cocktail.. Combination platter Chicken wings & sliders. I ll have to come back for the patio and pho.
Great service and fun staff. Drinks and cocktails were exquisite. Ask for Spill the tea! Music and decor was such a vibe. Highly recommend!
Went for lunch on a Saturday, table of 6, wasnt packed, but had people on the patio. After placing or order, it took about an hour before all the food was brought out. Food was also brought out pretty randomly which meant some were done their food before other even saw theirs. Not a lot of food was ordered, but it did really take a long time to come out. When the food did come out it was pretty tasty.
The food was good (beef taco was INCREDIBLE), service was very friendly but also quite slow. They were sold out of pork belly which seems to be their most popular item so I did not get a chance to try it. Vegetarian spring rolls - (3.2/5) Crispy but bland tasting and not worth trying. (Forgot to take a picture) Saigon Tacos Beef - (4.8/5) Absolutely incredible BBQ beef flavor with great toppings. Shrimp - (3.7/5) Shrimp was tender and cooked well but overall the taco was not as vibrantly flavored as the beef tacos and was also more expensive. Saigon sliders - (4.1/5) Fresh soft bun, simple pork patty with a good tasting sauce and crispy toppings for texture.
Tried many items on the menu with a group and everything was excellent. Service was very friendly and attentive as well!
Outstanding quality, everything tasted amazing and the king oyster mushroom dish is a must try if you live spicy foods!
Fabulous afternoon of patio vibes, excellent food and drinks. Dietary restrictions: they are attentive to dietary restrictions.
Loved - had the tastiest lunch topped with the BEST Vietnamese coffee! Service was exceptional - thank you Mary!
Solid cocktail and pork belly was delicious!
I had an amazing time !! Kenza gave me table at the patio even during the busy time even though I was on my own. Usually that would be given to a 2-4 people during the peak time! My server Marie was very kind and served me promptly Food was delicious I ended up having two persons meal
Amazing spot in the busy byward market. The best restaurant to visit hands down. Our server Marie was outstanding with her service and knowledge of the menus. Our bartender CN made us incredible cocktails, very highly recommend , prices are exactly what you should pay for how awesome everything is. The pork belly on rice is outstanding.
Really good food with a modern vibe. Good portion sizes for the price. Excellent service. I really recommend this place for a yummy bite and great cocktails
Awesome experience overall! Couldnt ask for more. C.N, and Gaya were awesome during my visit. Had a couple of Old fashioned, but the Mai Tai was the star tonight! The tacos were awesome They have happy hour from 4-6 pm, the placed was on point, super clean, great service. First time in both Canada and Ottawa! If I can, Id definitely come back to this place
Nice Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Ottawa. The Beef skewers were amazing!!!
Absolutely delicious food! The fries come with a very tasty dip, a must try. I ve had the tacos, skewers, chicken chips and papaya salad, did not disappoint. Happy hour is the time to visit. Great service from Gaya!
Delicious and original cuisine, great welcome and terrace. A very nice discovery
Delicious food and cocktails! The braised pork belly was a hit!
Owner is pretty cool!
Fantastic cocktails and tacos!
The legacy of the old Saigon remains but it s been given a fresh coat of paint. The food and drinks we had tonight were excellent. Don t pass this place by! Get the pork belly if they have any left and don t forget the classic spring rolls. The Pho Old Fashioned was probably the best OF I ve had to date. Will definitely be returning, thanks Maria for being a great server and host and we hope you don t change the playlist too much!
Joke of a restaurant. Will not be going back. I ordered Tacos and Wings and was served 1 single taco which was $10 and 5 tiny wings which were $15 thats $25 for next to nothing. I understand this isnt the US and I dont expect or want large portions but I also dont go to a restaurant to be served a snack which costs the same as a nice meal and elsewhere.
Amazing food and amazing service. Pork belly is to die for.
We came in for late night bite and the experience cannot be better. The server was friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. We had Pho mini, papaya salad and chicken wings. Cocktails are great. Flavour wise it s not 100% authentic, but everything still tasted very delicious. The food portion is smaller than normal but the price is also cheaper. Cocktails price is a bit above average but the quality is worth it. Great place for food at the Byward market area
The food was below par. They were out of shrimp. Didnt serve dessert because they decided to close before 7 pm on the weekend to go home early!
What a gem in the Market! Was recommended to come here by a waitress at a nearby restaurant and was not disappointed. Vietnamese style tapas were flavourful and fresh and the best Mai Tai I ve had in Ottawa in a long time. The mango cocktail is a must try!
Highly recommend the grilled shrimp skewers!
It was my first time having Vietnamese food. I would definitely go back
Good food but small portion.
Went as part of a social networking event. The hostess was amazing, food on point. A must go!
Delicious food, wonderful service. Highly recommended.
First visit to this restaurant. Nice place, cozy, friendly. Service was quick. For a reasonably priced restaurant the food presentation was perfect. Thank you
My friend and I decided to visit Saigon after having curiously passed it many times before. We were not disappointed! In fact, we were so delighted that we have decided that we must return again soon. We ordered two Mangoes in the Market , 3oz signature cocktails ($18/each). They were delicious! Besides the drink being absolutely tasty, what struck me most was the garnish. It was simple, elegant and playful. The slice of candied mango, S-shaped on a skewer, added to the whole drinking experience. It was no ordinary cocktail stick, it didn t feel cheap or brittle like those bamboo knotted picks. I used it as a stir stick, I waved it around as I spoke. It made me feel like a was wielding a mini sword which elevated the conversation and the roaring laughter between us ;) It was like nothing I d ever seen in Ottawa. Additionally, eating the mango slice as I sipped on the drink excited me. It s not often that I can eat a garnish without feeling embarrassed or messy. I felt classy and spoiled. I also found the dehydrated lime appealing and unique, yet again! I enjoyed the fact that it was not simply thrown on top of the liquid or ice. It was carefully placed on the rim of the glass, as if it were stuck there. I enjoyed having the choice of leaving it on the rim or being able to flick it into the drink and witness its rehydration. We both tried the braised pork belly ($10!!) as well. It was a great pairing with our strong cocktails. It was fatty, it was acidic, it was everything we needed in that moment. It really settled the stomach and prepared it for the incoming Saturday night drinks. The DJ was also very talented, the music did not fail to keep our spirits up. I found it to be a little loud considering Saigon is such a tight space. We definitely found ourselves saying, pardon? , a lot. It did not ruin my experience but I definitely thought to myself more than once, I wish it wasn t so loud. I will definitely be back to try more drinks and to test out their beautifully portioned food items sometime soon (especially the pho). Thank you Saigon staff!
Little gem in the market. Great drinks..unique flavors. Great staff. Immaculate vibes. Food was awesome. Love this place!!
Amazing, elevated flavors! I loved the pho and the pork belly skewers (the best I ever tasted). And the drinks, wow. Also loved the vibe. Will make this a regular stop whenever I fly in from Iqaluit, Nunavut. Dietary restrictions: They accommodated my basil allergy!
We went here on November 12th on an afternoon and loved it so much that we came back later that night. The atmosphere is warm, great music throwbacks to my childhood (90s), a hilarious sign that any vietnamese would appreciate. We had the mini pho which was delicious, small, sweet umami and sufficiently seasoned broth, good cut of meat and perfectly done noodles. Definitely hit the spot. The chicken skin chips were definitely good and perfect to pair with drinking. I really enjoyed the cocktails. They were well balanced and creative. Wont go into too much details here but they paid homage to Vietnamese culture. We had the pho old fashioned, tiger shrike, spill the tea and mango cocktails. Definitely will come back when I visit ottawa again.
Food was amazing the quantity was a little less but loved the taste. I got the pork belly and beef soup with Jasmine rice. It was lovely and I ate the very last bit. Yummy vietnamese food experience.
LOVE IT! absolutely must go to this restaurant especially at night if youre ever in Ottawa! We took my niece to this restaurant and she absolutely devoured into the food were absolutely coming back to this place!
This place has changed! We were treated to a warm welcome by the new owner and his staff. The food was excellent and generous with succulent cocktails and all in a beautiful atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant.
Great atmosphere and very welcoming staff. The food was great, try the skewers or the pho wraps! The cocktails were amazing as well, they have a spectacular take on the espresso martini Vietnamese style that is sure to impress! Edit - concerning what R F wrote, Im not sure where he got such a specific and arbitrary date, but the restaurant is under new management and has been newly renovated. The menu has changed, and they now feature small plates tapas style and new cocktail offerings. You can tell even if you just walk by and notice the brand new patio. For some that might be a tip off, but maybe R F will still wait for August 20. Either way, check it out for yourselves :)
We were here for the re-opening and it was Amazing ! Skewers were so tasty, we will come again !
Overall good experience. The restaurant just reopened 2 days before this review. At this time they appreciate customer feedback. The son has taken over for his parents and has tried to modernize the menu and experience. Experience: Customer service was excellent. I forced to eat a low fat diet due to gallstones, they were happy to accommodate. Constant refills on the water. Quick service. Friendly staff. Menu: It is very diffierent then before they closed. Currently it is focused on modern Vietnamese tapas. Go there expecting to order a few things. Photos of menu (August 2021) are attached. Food: Overall the quality was good. Portions were small but flavourful (as to be expected of tapas style). There is no traditional pho option. The pho bomb (photo attached) is a unique way to eat pho. Its a rice wrap with vermicelli and beef brisket. You start eating with fingers, but the wrap slowly dissolves and turns into regular pho. As of this time I would have liked more broth, but the owner accepted my feedback and will likely be changing this. Drinks: We both ordered the Tiger Shrike. The price was slightly higher than normal ($14), but still within reason for restaurant cocktails. Taste was wonderful, very unique, and the lychee - although not for everyones palate - added a nice accent once dipped into the drink itself.
This place is a must visit! Their pho, tofu/shrimp skewers are amazing and the dessert is a must try.
Tried the Pho bomb. I ordered a second one. Wife had the veggie spring rolls and the wings (amazing). Definately returning. Strongly recommend.
Really good food!
Amazing food, drinks, and service. Everyone was beyond friendly and couldn t have asked for a better dining experience for my first time in Ottawa.
Always been a fan of this spot for years and I was really excited to see it re-open over the last few weeks!! I love the innovative menu and the cocktails; there are too many Asian restaurants that have a generic menu you would expect as if they were knocked off each other whereas Saigon is anything but! Cheers to the hardworking staff and ownerships/management that are looking to bring new experiences to Ottawa! in the photos: a Vietnamese twist on an espresso martini using authentic Vietnamese coffee + Pho Bomb
Disappointed... Tiny portions... Left still hungry... I love getting Pho when its rainy out, so I was so excited to find this Vietnamese restaurant when walking by. The service was great and the environment is excellent, but the portions are tiny. We each ordered the Pho Bomb which sounded so promising, but its sadly some weird modern-art trendy take on Pho. I wouldnt care about the look if it wasnt snack-sized. There are 2 tiny slices of meat and the bowl is so small, that you can finish it in just over a minute. Please dont mess with Pho - and please fix your portion sizes!
It was delicious! So flavorful, we tried a few different dishes to share and loved the Pho Bomb and the skewers! The staff was very friendly. Definitely recommend
If youre looking for Vietnamese tapas style food with good drinks, go here! Had a super awesome experience at this restaurant about two weeks ago. Went with three other people so we had the opportunity to try everything on the menu. The Pho bomb, chicken wings, sliders and skewers were delicious. The drinks really compliment the meal as well. Staff was super friendly.
Food was really good and my cocktail was delicious. Everything was super tasty and our server was great.
They force clients to eat what they have ordered even you dont like it.
After visiting Saigon for my first time at the beginning of October, it has easily become my favorite place in the Byward Market. The food is great, and the cocktails are beyond excellent! The cocktails can only be described as Angels peeing down your throat. Looking forward to returning again soon!
Under new management. This bar is trendy, good vibe, great music, great cocktails!
Love the food, atmosphere, and especially the people !!! Honestly such a nice environment. Might be my new favourite place. Highly recommend the sliders :)
Great food and better service. A unique menu thats great for sampling the many dishes they offer. The pho bomb and sliders are a must try. They have a tremendous variety of cocktails on their drink menu too! The bartender was more than happy to share his story and inspirations behind each drink . Cant wait to go back!
Food and drinks were presented exceptionally and everything I ate was literally the best thing Ive ever had. Such a good spot to hit.
Better atmosphere than before... the food was also very tasty. Good drinks but a bit pricey.
I have had the chance to travel to Vietnam and Thailand. I fell in love with the food while I was visiting. I love this restaurant. Great food and nice staff. Thanks again I ll be sure to come back with my family. Liam
Very limited menu. Ordinary.
Pho broth is mediocre, salad rolls are great though
Decent Vietnamese!
Excellent as usual. Good Asian food.
Good Pad Thai
Sooo good!
Good place, lovely people, good food!
This place is my favorite place to eat! They have been in business a really long time and thats a statement to the quality of the food served there!!!
Delicious food and friendly service from the restaurant owners.
Very cozy, nice, and very very delicious! Thank you!
Very good Vietnamese cuisine. The service was courteous and fast. I would recommend the crispy chow mein, it was delicious!
Decent Vietnamese fare downtown Ottawa.
Fast friendly service. I had a vermicelli dish with beef and chicken. Delicious. Salad greens and veggies were very fresh. Quality food. Above average for restaurant food. Recommended.
Great food, light and tasty
Fly in our noodles and found a huge fly wing stuck to the side of the bowl. Never experienced something like this we lost our appetite!
Awesome pho and vermicelli here! Fast service too.
What an amazing experience! The service is warm and casual. My boyfriend and I shared a bottle of chardonnay with two starters, finger shrimps and spring rolls. Both were satisfying and made of the fresh ingredients. My boyfriend had a pho with beef. He added his sriracha sauce to it. He said, it reminded him of his time in high school when he and his friends would often eat pho in Montreal. I had the Saigon sweet and sour. Simply wonderful! I added the fresh mint and bean sprouts! Such a humble restaurant! We will return again!
Really good sushi
Ordered wonton dumplings pad Thai and the vermicelli bowl. The dumplings were over fried and far too dry. The pad Thai was pretty bland, the portion size of the on the vermicelli bowl was ridiculously small. Instead of eating here you should head around the corner to Asian alley or ipho. Both of those restaurants do better food for the same price. The service was fine though and it has a patio.
Quiet, friendly service, food is ok
Pricey. Ok food.
More Thai choices than Vietnamese.
Very friendly host. I ordered the Lemongrass chicken and was a tad disappointed on the paltry amount of chicken that was in the dish. Felt like I was eating a vegetarian dish. Inbspot of this, it tasted very good.
Very good
very bad experience. we ate the flies in the noodles but the owner didnt say sorry. bad sevice and experience.I uploaded the picture.Could you guys Can see it? Find the flies!
Dessert- Saigon Ottawa
Food was good, vegetarian friendly, and our server was excellent and very friendly. Would definitely go again and would recommend to friends/family. Slightly pricey, but no complaints!
Great place. They have lots of food on their menu which I thought would be casual. However, I have already been here for fourth times, and all the food I ordered surprised me. It may be not an excellent restaurant with incredible tastes, but all the food here is on average, or even better. I strongly recommond here for a simple meal.
