East Side Mario's in Owen Sound

Great place to eat or have a drink, consistent in their atmosphere and menus over the years. Typical Road House type restaurant, but featuring Italian dishes. Parking: Easy access from main road. Family friendly too. Kid-friendliness: Crayons and colouring provided.

Seviroli pasta was the menu picture but got undercooked capellini they deleted the charge but left Christmas party unfed. My husbands Hawaiian heat pizza was 1/8 thick and very very bland ate one slice took it home to fix it . Maybe eat it. The waitresses were very good. Very noisy undisciplined kids party made it hard to hear each other, our party of 8 adults.

Really good food. And the staff were efficient and friendly even when they were really busy.

Although we dropped by before the dinner rush (restaurant was nearly empty) we were seated very near the door - the table located to the right of the entranceway if you are walking into the establishment, next to the wood divider. There was one customer seated at a bench reading a book. Service was slow, and it was noisy and drafty where we were seated (possibly due to the acoustics of our location?). The Caesar salad was drowning in dressing when it arrived and so, I tried to toss the lettuce and move it around to try to more evenly distribute the dressing which though I like it, was just too much and was quite overpowering. We finished the bread and salad but were not offered anymore (it is advertised as all you can eat) until some time later (quite some time) when our main course was just about to arrive. Because hubby and I are retired and live on a fixed income, when we dine out, we seldom order beverages because this allows us to give a good tip of 20%. We are of the mind that because we have to watch our money, we do not dine out (like some folks do) who do not tip in order to save money. At $ 3.99 for a non-alcoholic beverage x 2 plus tax, that makes up a good portion of the tip we plan to leave the server. So, we order wateras our beveragevof choice and it is a healthy option too. However, perhaps we are judged for not ordering anything but our meal because we did not even receive an offer for water top up. Added to our dilemma is the fact that hubby is immuno-compromised, so we choose to dine out infrequently and at less busy times if possible. Therefore, we try to really enjoy our meals when we dine out because it happens so infrequently. And we do not live in Owen Sound, so dining at East Side Marios was to be a real treat for us. I had an emergency ophthalmology appointment in Owen Sound, and it took several hours, so we were quite hungry when we decided to dine out. I have fond memories of East Side Marios and had not tried the Owen Sound location so when considering where to dine, I suggested East Side Marios Paint me disappointed on all accounts. The double whammy? It is our 48th wedding anniversary this month, so I told hubby that we would count this as our wedding anniversary dining out experience and celebration (as we cannot budget for two dining out experiences in a single month). So, to be met with an inferior dining experience was a tremendous disappointment on so many levels, not least of which I had expected better from East Side Marios. We still tipped the full 20% because in my minds eye, I have no idea what is going on in the kitchen or in the servers life and workplace - too often there are circumstances about which we have no knowledge and which we do not need to know but staff have lives outside of work that might negatively impact their performance so I am not going to deprive them.of a decent tip and maybe if they did judge us for keeping our purchase to a minimum so left us to our own devices having judged us and found us lacking, maybe the next person will be treated with a little more dignity and not judged. As for hubby and I - it is doubtful we will return to this location to dine again as we cannot afford to spend money on dining experiences that are less than desirable because they are such a rare treat for us. Menu options are limited to mainly pasta or chicken Parm, if you get fries don t ask for gravy because this restaurant doesn t have gravy at all anymore, and to top it off beer was flat. Overall a reminder why we do not come here.

Great atmosphere! A nice bar area with screens to watch sports. Food is typical for such places. Good for family or friend gatherings.

Its about what youd expect from an Eastside Marios. Food is good, with decent options for the kids. It does get busy so you may need some patience. Kid-friendliness: They have loads of fun options for the kids, complete with a kids cocktail menu.

We have been to this location many times and normally it has been a great experience. Tuesday Aug 20 we brought my wife to celebrate her birthday and the bad service started before we got in. The wait to get in was quite long and the 3 families ahead of us said they had been waiting at least 15 minutes and even though staff kept passing by not one person stopped to acknowledge them at all. There were plenty of empty tables so it wasnt because they were busy. 2 groups including us almost left. We should have went to Suisse Chalet. Once seated we placed our orders for drinks, mine came with out ice. We placed our order and had to ask about the bread, then for plates, and then for cutlery. We also had to ask 3 times for extra napkins. The food itself was very good, we ordered 2 soups and 4 salads. The soups came and we had to wait for almost 10 minutes for the salads which were sitting at the pass. 2 of the salads had chunks of lettuce that werent cut small enough which we ended up cutting ourselves. The rest of the food was excellent. My wife has worked in the food industry for over 35 years and said there should have been a manager going around. Not once did we see one. My partner and I walked in and asked for a booth and got greeted with a look up and down and a comment about how the booths are small the vibe was not great felt like we were being judged right off the bat so we walked out and went somewhere else

Compared to other east sides this one seems to always be lacking . We don t go often as we don t live in Owen Sound but the 3 times we ve been to this one we leave saying to each other that was bad .

Slow service! Lovely bar tender but too much else needs attention. 1 out of 3 sinks in bathroom (ladies) works. Floor in the bathroom was sticky. Overall. Needs a massive deep clean. Food

Was having a great time at first, then the food came which was actually decent until my girlfriend was almost done and she found a metal shaving in her ravioli. We brought this to the attention on the server and she brought to the manager. The server came back and the manager did not even come to apologize about it. They then gave us our bill to only receive 10% off the meal. I don t think 10% justifys having metal shavings in your dinner. Dissapointing.

i placed an order at 6:30pm. i was told itd be 40-45 minutes. its now 9pm and i still haven t received my order. i called them back around 7:30 and they said they were just cooking my pasta and then waiting for the delivery driver. UPDATE: the manager personally dropped off my food after remaking it and didnt charge me a penny!! very satisfied with how this was dealt with. great customer service

I dont get it? We arrived at 5:45 a young couple and their friend waiting to be seated ahead of us. There are a lot of empty tables and booths but they told us we would have to wait at least 30 minutes. The parking lot is not packed or anything. We had no trouble finding a spot close to the building. Unless they had a lot of reservations or they are very short staffed giving them the benefit of the doubt. But it makes the establishment looks bad.

Our food was excellent as expected we did get our usual, I had Carbonara and a Caesar salad, my husband had Spagetti and meatballs and their Ravioli soup

Greeting was really awkward. We said hello and 3 hostesses/servers looked at us and then immediately went back to what they were doing. We awkwardly stood there and about 30 seconds later one of the hostesses walked away with 2 menus so we assumed we were to follow. Calamari was barely fried and gross. Ordered the Hells Kitchen Chicken. Chicken was leathery and over cooked. Wife got the tortellini pasta. Extremely uninspiring. Casear salad was great. Beer was cold. Food came in reasonable time. And our main waitress Griffon was great and prompt. Wasnt that busy and there was a lot of staff. Overall very lack luster experience but seems to be the norm in Canadian chain restaurants. Not for us I guess.

Very slow and poor service. Took over 2 hours for dinner (no appatizers). Wife chicken was burnt and dry. They forgot my daughters drink. Just not a good experience.

Everything was going nice my husband and I never really get the opportunity to go out much. However we waited almost an hour for our food on Saturday and waited for our drinks at the table for almost 40 maybe 50 minutes the staff was amazing our waitress kept apologizing for the wait. My husband goes outside for his third smoke while waiting and he can see a good majority of what looks to be the kitchen staff outside playing with a ball in a parking lot with cars around and a few were wrestling. Not very professional for an establishment and was very upset with how you run the kitchen. Overall we do like going there to eat it has just become a bit of a bother with the wait time and the undercooked and overcooked food.

Very small portions Had to send back the very burned chicken, Parm that was smothered in to much tomato sauce probrably to try to hide the error but the burnt taste wasn t so erasable ! Poor service I do not recommend this location

Had the most amazing experience at east sides the other day! Great atmosphere, food and price! And to top it all off we had Eryn as our sever who went absolutely above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible, and we did!! Will return for great food and Eryn s great service!!

We like to go the East side Marios when we go out for special occasions, yesterday was our anniversary. The food was great, warm, tasty, and excellent overall. The service was the best. She was really welcoming and friendly. She checked on us often to make sure everything was okay and we did not need anything else.

Service was excellent. The ravioli was AMAZING, as was the Caesar salad and bread! My friends Sampler chicken Parm was burnt to a crisp but they remade the order and he took it home. I didnt enjoy the pesto goat cheese pasta, all we could taste was pesto, the goat cheese was almost non existent, and the noodles were really undercooked. We were seated right at the front door, even after asking the hostess to put us somewhere warm, and every time the door opened we were blasted with cold.

Very good Italian place. My husband and I always enjoy coming here. My hubby loves their chicken Parm, and I love their Italian wedding soup and all their pasta! They have unlimited bread, soup, and salad if you order a main entree. They have big servings too. 5 star rating! Update: February 23, 2024 My husband and I went back to this restaurant today for a late lunch, around 2:30 ish. My husband ordered chicken parm, salad, and soda. I ordered traditional or regular calamari frittiti, coffee, and ceasar salad. I asked for another coffee because it was lighter compared to the last time. So they made another pot of coffee, and it was better. The calamari was not crispy as I imagined it would be, but it was ok. Sherry, our server was friendly and nice. The worst thing about this visit today was I had diarrhea right after. I hope they take notice of this. Otherwise, I wouldnt want to go back. I would be scared to try their food again.

They need to assign a place for courier to pick orders. Every time they don t have any idea who to talk to or where to get the order from. They have to wait for 30 mins. Please they are also customer who orders take out

Mar 2/2024. Arrived at 6:56pm. 8+ different people came in and were served after me. One visit from the waitress when I ordered a beer. I waited the whole time to have my order taken. At 7:35 pm I went to the bar and told the blonde waitress that I was ready to order She said she was busy. I pointed out to her that I had been there since 6:56 and that she had served everyone accept me. I waited some more and she finally arrived at my table with the bill and asked me if I was ready to pay. I said no, I would like to order food. She said that she was uncomfortable and with that took my half beer and walked away. What did I do to be treated so poorly? I proceeded to the managerand she sorted me out instantly. Also food and drink on the house. I have been coming to ESM in Owen Sound since 2008. This is unacceptable service.

My experiance at east side marios was great, the food tastes amazing, the service was awesome, our waiter was kind and got everything when we needed fast. The scenery was so cool, they had lots of cool looking shandeleers, old paintings and old food on the shelves that look like artifacts. Managed to eat a wonderful lunch and was able to have enough to take home for our supper. BIG portions. So good. Parking: I saw 2 handicapped parking spots and 3 parking spots for courier pick up. There were multiple patrons with mobility challenges such as myself. We needed to park in the rear parking lot.

My sever was Rin. She was by far, the BEST server we have ever had at any restaurant ever!! The restaurant was also amazing as usual, food was awesome, service was quick. This shows hard and efficient workers to me. But, Rin stuck out, she has a very special talent to serve. Regardless, we will still eat here no matter what.

We do not go out much. Even though they were extremely busy, seats were found for us. Staff were so friendly and courteous that I would come back again! Our server Sarah was the best server we have had in years. Hopefully, she gets recognized well for her efforts in customer service. Thank you for a great dining experience!

I was very disappointed last night. I received a small white plate of salad and I asked for another before my dinner arrived. It did not come, I was then told once my dinner arrived it would be up shortly. My waitress walked by half way through my meal and again said it will be up soon. She then gave us the bill and I asked for the salad to go as I was still waiting for it, she said no I had to eat it there. I would have. I have always loved this restaurant and the all you can eat salad is my favourite part. Another person in our party ordered the lasagna and he said it was burnt.

We recently had a small intimate wedding reception at East Side Marios as we recently got married in Owen sound. I cant begin to say how fabulous they were. We had a party of 9 people in total. We were able to use the private room, bring in our own wedding cake, decorate etc. Big shout out to all the staff working that day. They made my day of being a bride a breeze and stress free for the reception. Thank you again to Erin, Yvonne, our server McKenzie, plus everyone else. We highly recommend them and we will definitely be back. We are planning to hold our 1 year wedding anniversary there.

Server may have just been lacking some experience but no table maintenance until it was far too late. No cutlery with or before food, didn t take salad bowls away, didn t offer more bread or refills, everything still on the table after we were done. She really didn t talk at all either.

We were visiting the area with my daughter and decided to get lunch at Mario s today. My daughter had a burger and I ordered a wrap (Nothing special) THE OWNER of the place Rachel brought our order. I forgot to mention I cannot eat fried things, so we asked if it was okay to change to grilled chicken, she clearly did not like that and used a VERY unpleasant tone and mentioned we d have to pay for the new wrap, and then proceeded to ask what am I supposed to do with that?? as in the wrap. She didn t give me the opportunity to explain my health issues. And on top of that, the server ordered the wrong sandwich for my daughter. The owner wouldn t let the server get a word in. If you want to own a restaurant, YOU SHOULD NOT TREAT YOUR COSTUMERS THE WAY YOU TREAT YOUR STAFF.

It was our Damily Christmas Dinner and we enjoyed our time together. The service was good and the food was very good.

I hate to say it, but after 20 years of coming here for lunch, Im officially done. Worst waitress Ive ever seen (and I own a restaurant!!) .. couldnt be bothered to come back to see us during the first 40 minutes here..too busy chatting with her other waitress buddy, and the place was 90% empty! Sad. Please, please do better.
