353 MacKay St, Pembroke, ON K8A 1C8, Canada
Quaint B&B offering 7 refined rooms in a converted 1911 mansion, plus a genteel tearoom & massages.
On our way from Montreal to North Bay we decided to stay at this wonderful inn. Lynn was super helpful and sweet for the duration of our stay and the room was exactly as advertised (we stayed in the Majestic). The bathroom was beautiful and everything was clean and comfy. Well kitted out and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfast isn’t included but what you pay for is really great value! We look forward to staying here again soon!
We recently celebrated our Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary in the newly renovated Oak Room at the Grey Gables Inn. What a pleasant experience. The staff were friendly and attentive to all our needs. Our compliments to the chef as well, the food was delicious. A Five Star experience.
I hope you don't have to cancel!||They have an awesome scam they are running. Me and my brother had an event in Pembroke. Booked 3 rooms. First warning sign: They charged us for four rooms [claimed a mistake yet it is still on my card].||We called within 2 days to cancel well within their policy as the rooms were booked for 5 months later. Sweet as could be as they said no problem, let us fix that. ||Call 2 hey did you cancel? So sorry not sure how we missed that.||Call 3 Hey what's up? Sorry we had a new girl on the desk we will have that done today.||Call 4: HEY! Oh I see the problem it was charged to the restaurant no wonder we missed it. We will get right on that.||Call 5: I got a "we can't wait to see you this weekend" email. Called again. The OWNER said I will do it myself call you back in an hour.||Call 6: I am sorry Liza is not here, I am just the waitress.||||RUN. So many nice places in Pembroke. Places that don't steal your money.
While we did not stay overnight, we dined here for lunch with a family of 14. I was initially nervous that there would be issues with such a large group-but this place is a hidden gem in Pembroke. The restaurant itself is nice, comfortable, clean and pleasantly decorated.the young lady server was pleasant friendly and efficient. There was not one mistake on drink orders or food orders-all were delivered to the right person and the 14 meals all came out of the kitchen hot and with little waiting. The unanimous view was that the food was very good. The fish and chips were crispy and not over or undercooked. Shepherds pie was tasty and the salad was fulsome and hearty with eggs and lots of fixins! The total cost was MORE than reasonable and the overall experience has guaranteed that we will be back!!!!
I cancelled the $254 night trip 5hrs after booking it. I seen two reviews that breakfast was not included. I called the Inn myself. When I asked if breakfast was included, he said yes. I mentioned I just read two reviews that a $5.00 voucher was given towards the price of breakfast. The employee back tracked and verified that.||False advertising. B&B includes breakfast. Their web site should be explicit on the $5.00 voucher and breakfast is not included with your booking.||Glad I read the reviews!!
Booked a room for an up coming funeral. Room was $254. Advertising lead on to believe breakfast was included with the booking. It should be for that price!! I read two reviews that breakfast wasn't included. I called the Grey Gable Inn myself. Asked if breakfast was included with the booking. I was told yes. I then said I had read there was a $5.00 coupon given to apply to the price of breakfast in their reviews. Employee back paddled then! Yes, a $5.00 coupon is given to be applied to the price of breakfast. False advertising and I cancelled my booking.
The breakfast is not free, they give you five dollars off the price per person if you eat breakfast there. The Kensington was cramped and wind whistled in through the windows even when they were closed and latched. There's too much furniture in the small room and no proper desk. The room is very dark and light cant be let in due to the curtains being fixed in place. There's no Oak Room fine dining and the diner they have set up serves basic food with the Caesar being the only cocktail available. The food is good and the bed was comfortable. With no sprinklers and iffy wiring I felt like I was in a fire trap in this deteriorating, once grand, house.
The Grey Gable Inn is an historic inn just blocks away from Pembroke's downtown. Its luxury rooms were elegantly designed with modern amenities, providing a comfortable and indulgent stay. The room I stayed in —Kensington— had a coffee machine and a refrigerator that housed a small freezer. The decoration was very tasteful, while it retains the charm of an old house, it is updated and provides a comfortable stay. There is a diner housed in the Inn. Meals are available for purchase Overall, the luxurious rooms and the picturesque garden are delightful. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique and memorable accommodation experience."
Very quaint and beautiful hotel and B&B
A hotel like a museum. Cosy, clean and the hosts are very nice. Its like a little timeride back to the 30s.
Great spot to grab a bite to eat. Also have rooms available to rent.
We visited the new restaurant, and the food was terrible
This place is a must see. If you have not booked an evening in one of these very unique rooms, you need to do so. Friendly staff, food is amazing and the rooms are meticulously decorated and cleaned. The owners are fantastic people and go out of their way to make you feel at home. This is a must do!!!
I grew up in Pembroke many years ago before moving to Toronto when I was sixteen. In those early childhood days, I would walk past this grand house and accompanying grounds every day, daydreaming of someday owning it. Unfortunately, like many childhood dreams, that never came to pass. However, more recently, I had the pleasure of staying there on two distinct occasions since it had become The Grey Gables Inn. The experience was both fun and gratifying and satisfied some long-forgotten childhood dreams. The Inn was well-located in the city centre, close to where my father still lives, blocks away, and within an easy walk of the many beautiful adjacent streets, houses, and parks surrounding it. My experience, from booking my room to arriving, staying, eating, and ultimately departing, were all lovely and efficient, made all the more welcoming by the charming proprietors and staff of the Inn who all went out of their way to make my visit and stay both memorable and magical. I cannot recommend enough this magical venue if you should ever have the chance to stay there. It is, without a doubt, worth the experience. Rooms: Although a small establishment, Grey Gables Inn offers several differently sized and configured rooms and options. My favourite, though, is the Majestic - a small suite with a comfy king-sized bed, fireplace, television, and a nice amount of room to move around in, as well as a well-appointed bathroom and sufficient closet space. Nearby activities: Located in the middle of Pembroke and adjacent to a beautiful park that was once part of the original structures land, you are close to pretty much everything this quaint town offers. Safety: The Inn and the town itself are safe and secure. The owners provide guests with front door keys which they lock after a certain hour each night. Also, each room is securely locked and the main desk is well within the eyes and ears of the proprietors who are personally in the property every day. Walkability: Unquestionably, this is a highly walkable town with lovely, quiet streets and plenty of grand homes to view from its Lumber Baron days of the 1800s, not to mention a quick jaunt to nearby Pansy Patch Park and the quaint main street filled with cute restaurants, shops, historic Pembroke City Hall and Heritage Murals. For access to the Pembroke Mall or any of the numerous tourist establishments including Champlain Trail Museum & Pioneer Village, Pembroke Waterfront Park & Marina, Murray L. Moore Hydro Museum, Huglis Blueberry Ranch & Gift Store, the Urban Oasis Day Spa and many others, it is best to take a car. Food and drinks: Grey Gables Inn offers delicious in-house dining at two venues - the more formal, The Oak Door, and the casual, The Pantry - featuring a beautifully appointed dining room with weekend breakfast, Sunday Tea, and delicious lunches & dinners. They also host numerous special events, including a Mothers Day special and private weddings, to name just a few. Noteworthy details: The Inn was originally a private, grand home belonging to Edward A. Dunlop (1876-1934), a wealthy industrialist and politician, his wife, Mable Dunlop (nee Ferguson - 1883-1948), and their four children, Mable, Mary, Jean, and Edward Jr. (a disabled WWII War Veteran and one-time M.P.P.). Construction of the house commenced in 1911 and was completed in 1913 at a cost of $75,000, a very large sum for the area and time. In addition to the many bedrooms, bathrooms, expansive kitchen and beautifully appointed dining room, the house also featured a music room, a glass conservatory, a greenhouse, and a wine cellar to name a few. The lands upon which the house was built included an approximately half acre of flower & vegetable gardens plus two, outdoor tennis courts. The lady of the house, Mrs. Mable Dunlop, liked to entertain and kept a staff of several maids (both upstairs and downstairs) as well as a cook, chauffeur, and gardener among others. The family lived there for many years until Mr. Dunlop Sr. moved them to Toronto when he assumed the role of Provincial Treasurer. He served as a conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for Renfrew North three separate times - from 1903 to 1908, 1911 to 1919 and 1928 to 1934. He served as provincial treasurer from 1930 to 1933.
My wife and I recently stayed at Grey Gables for her Birthday getaway. We found the property and its owners to be wonderful; their dog was adorable, as well. The Inn was decorated for Christmas; it was very nice. The breakfast was delicious. We ended up having a nice conversation with the owners, while having breakfast. 5 Stars.
We had our wedding here & it was amazing! Beautiful ceremony, awesome food, impeccable service. We are so happy we chose this place for our special day. We recommend entirely & will definitely be returning for anniversaries!
Good food good service great place second mortgage required
Beautiful charming property and excellent staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Atmosphere , brilliant service and outstanding food
Our party of 5 enjoyed a fantastic dinner. The serving team did a wonderful job of talking about the history of this wonderful home. Food and drinks: Good selection on the menu and we all loved what we ordered!
Doing our wedding planning. Definitely a good choice. Will update after our wedding.
Staff was lovely - explained history of the building and answered our questions about it. Same staff also made a delicious breakfast and checked us in quickly & efficiently. We loved our room and will return! Rooms: Different arrangements make for interesting details vs. boring cube rooms in regular hotels
High tea on Mothers Day delightful
Had a fine version of fish & chips in the Pantry Pub in the complex. Top notch pub style food at very reasonable prices for the excellent quality and portion size. The service was efficient but lacked warmth and engagement. The environment is pleasant but honestly to be a pub... a bar is essential!
We cannot say enough wonderful things about Grey Gables. There are few places we rave about all the way home. This was definitely one of them. From the minute you walk into this stately inn you are in awe. Then you meet the staff. To say they are customer focused is an understatement. Lynn greeted us upon check in and her knowledge of the history of the inn was so enthusiastic and interesting. Then we had a drink in the Pantry where we met Sue. She was so kind and even gave us a little map of the town so we could explore the beautiful waterfront. (Less than a 10 min walk from the inn). Next we had the pleasure of meeting the owners Lisa and Rigo. Wow. They could not have been more welcoming. (Lisa, you told us the mattresses would be the most comfortable weve ever slept on..and boy were you right!) The room we stayed in was beautiful and pure luxury. Our room was called the Majestic. Truly appropriately named! Then dinner at The Oak Door. Spectacular!! Our steaks were cooked to perfection. And everything else from the appetizers to the sides were just perfect. Our server Cole was so knowledgeable of the menu and attentive to anything we needed. Rigo was just a joy. He checked on us 3 times to make sure all was good. How many owners do that?? We never met Chef and his team but kudos to them! If you are ever in Eastern Ontario, do yourself a favour and check out Grey Gables and The Oak Door. This Pembroke gem will not disappoint!
Lovely place!! The owners are so friendly treated us like a family. The staffs were superb and very attentive. The room is spacious. We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant and the food was amazing! Great location aswell few walks and you are in downtown and by the waterfront!
Ate in pub. I ordered seafood dish with mussels, shrimps calamari. I found everything so crisp even mussels you could not taste the seafood. It all taste the same. Saw fish and chips being served and they looked really good. We will try the oak room another time as I hear all good things. Maybe i just chose the wrong dish.
Fine dining at its best! We cant say enough about the ambiance or the excellant service we received. The food was beyond delicious. We certainly hope we get to enjoy the experience next time were in Pembroke.
Wonderful Inn with large estate rooms, beautiful lobby and dining room. Old world charm oozes from every direction. The owners are on site and are extremely kind and helpful ensuring your stay is memorable. The dining room is very much as it was originally in the late 19th century as well offering an incredible dining experience. Would definitely return when in Pembroke next!
Beautiful spot, great location. Great area to go for walks.
We had a miscommunication on a booking and they went above and beyond to accommodate us. Great building, charming details, and very comfortable beds.
Wonderful food selection and food was delicious Highly recommend it. Service was fast and pleasant
A great place to stop for any occasion! The atmosphere, music and staff are VERY PLEASANT, POLITE AND ATTRACTIVE My wife and I were very lucky to spend time in your warm and friendly company Good luck to you Rooms: Clean, tidy and has everything you need! Nearby activities: The city is not very big and it is very easy and affordable to spend time. Safety: Everything is very safe! Walkability: Everything is close 2-3 minutes by car. Food and drinks: Delicious cuisine and wonderful staff!
Kind and friendly staff. Food was fresh and delicious. The hotel and restaurants are beautifully decorated and taken care of. Highly recommend! Food and drinks: I ordered the the Korean lettuce wraps and they were amazing
A majestic magical place of unparalleled beauty, a place with more than 110 years of history where I want to live Rooms: Sumptuous Safety: Very safe Food and drinks: Excellent food, extraordinary service Noteworthy details: A place imbued with 110 years of stories of life. I shared the history of this place with its current owner Grégore, a passionate and exciting man to relive this experience. I even celebrated my 61st birthday on September 16, 2023 in this establishment, it was grandiose
A grand old mansion, with hospitable hosts. The restaurant is very good. I Had roast lamb, hubby chose the tuna steak. Breakfast was delicious , too.
The most impressive property in Pembroke.
First time visit to both Pembroke and Grey Gables Inn this past weekend, while travelling into Quebec. Very impressed with all aspects of the stay. Lisa is a great host and runs a first class operation from start to finish. Oak Door steakhouse on main floor is amazing. Dinner chef certainly knows his trade. And breakfast (included) is equally fresh and high quality. Stayed in Kensington room - very nice. All around good stay, and Lisa was very generous with her time in speaking with us about the history of the building and the renovations. (Special thanks to Lynn for her kind assistance with our booking and during our stay). Jim and Susan. Stayed Nov 17 and 18, 2023. Noteworthy details: Historic Inn with quaint rooms and fine dining
Food is great Service excellent...ambiance is perfect.Highly recommended. .
Went for new years eve. 5 course meal. App was cold with caviar. Salad was spinach based with no dressing ( dry). Onion soup was ok, beef had no juice with it, lobster served without butter (not right-need butter). $100 meal. Never return
We went for high tea. The food was wonderful, service was great and staff very welcoming. Great experience
When stepping in, it felt like we stepped into the Edwardian age! Amazing decor - I really appreciated the oak panelling in the lobby. The staff were very helpful. We hope to come back soon!
We stayed here 1 night, and there really isnt much else to but. WOW, everything was excellent. The food at the Oak Door was absolutely to die for, I had the steak tartar as an appetizer. And the steak dinner. My wife had the chicken and shared a lovely bottle of bubbly. And yes, Marlene does make the best Martini ever! Thank you Lynn and everyone here for such a wonderful experience. We will return.
Had dinner at the Pantry Eatery Pub at Grey Gables Inn. Food was excellent, so were the drinks, desserts and service. Highly recommend!
Dinner was great. Service was great. I cant wait to go back.
A great place to take a special person
Always a special place for us when we visit our family in Pembroke. The ambience is the best and the cuisine is superb. Always a delightful experience.
Lovely place to eat a wonderful meal. Fish and chips are fabulous.
Absolutely beautiful place. Very knowledgeable staff
Very nice,food was great.
Grey Gables is easily the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. Even down to the smallest details, everything was exquisite. Additionally, all the staff were friendly and courteous. The best part though, itnwas a welcoming environment. I was concerned that an establishment as beautiful as this would be stuffy, but it was just the opposite. It was worth the money, and I will be back.
WOW!! This place is fantastic. Visited the area for a wedding and chose to stay here because of how gorgeous it looked. It looks even better in person. The rooms are enchanting. The service and atmosphere is wonderful. Really great place to take some photos when you are all dressed up.
What a beautiful gem and exquisite dining experience! We had the pleasure of experiencing a Wedding brunch here and the food was absolutely divine and the service was absolutely amazing! The decor is stunning - especially when you appreciate vintage and antiques as we do. Would highly recommend Gray Gables Inn to host any of your special events - you wont be disappointed!
The food and the people there were awesome . You wont want to miss this one!
First time at the Oak door restaurant. First class food and service. Cant wait to go back.
It was great! Only complaint - noisy air conditioner in our room. You could either hear the tv and overheat or be cool and crank the TV but be afraid we were being too loud. Otherwise beautiful property and wonderful venue for weddings and special events. Would highly recommend.
Been there for sinner and the live entertainment and have to say it is easily one of the best dining experience in the Ottawa Valley. The steak is always perfect and servive is excellent. I highly recommend it!
We just spent the night at the inn, vip room no bathrobes no phones paint peeling off the walls was not worth the 300 dollars I was charged on my credit card even before we checked in, I do not recommed this inn. Staff was very helpful food was very good go there for dinner or brunch.
Service was occasionally slow but generally good. Food was excellent. The VIP room was sub-standard with walls and ceilings falling away (peeling), and advertised robes were not provided (for the price of the room, one should not have to ask). The claw foot tub was badly stained making it uninviting. Room was over-priced for the quality of accommodations.
Fantastic people, rooms and breakfast. Will not hesitate to go back.
We had Breakfast and Dinner... both times, served by Kevin! Best service ever... attention to details, knew everything about the menu, very nice to talk with, friendly, made us feel very welcome! Food was just Amazing! Definitely a must for the area!
We were on a road trip from Kelowna to Ottawa. We stayed in Grey Gable Inn for 5 nights before our long stay in Ottawa. Honestly speaking we were a bit concerned about some negative feedbacks on Google, especially about the manner of the host. But we found out that he is indeed a Santa Claus who loves to play with a poker face. He is also a wise man with high integrity. Food was extremely good, we enjoyed our lunch at The Oak Door, not to mention that the breakfast was amazingly good.
Had a solid dinner at their restaurant super cool being in an old mansion. Cool art on the wall and layout.
Beautiful room and lovely staff. The building itself is also gorgeous.
We heard about the food and decided to try it. We were not disappointed. The meal was excellent, the service impeccable and the staff were happy to help you with choices of wine. The owner came to welcome us. She was warm and chatted with us about the place. We are returning soon for prime rib dinner.
Stayed a night and absolutely loved it. Room was great!! Had all the amenities we needed. Cleanliness was perfect, no surprises. Staff was fantastic, always there to help. Also ate at both restaurants and both very delicious. Highly recommend & definitely coming back
Facts: Property is historical. It has great old charm. One can actually open the windows for sleeping! Lovely antiques. Tasteful decor. Delicious breakfast in the morning. I highly suggest taking your time to read through the lower rated reviews before booking your stay. Many have had the same experience I did. Although this is not advertised on their website, nor are guests warned when they check in - visitors are not allowed in a guests room. Recently, my family and I attended a funeral in town. There were 2 people staying in my room. I had 3 family members visit me in between and after services. We were mourning the loss of a loved one. Management was aggressive and rude. Pointing at signs. I did approach them privately and respectfully with my concerns. What I would like to know is how specifically these conditions will be improved.
I was a little nervous about staying here. It reminded me a little of the house in Bates Motel. Im also use to chains, like The Hilton. Let me tell you. This was the most amazing experience ever. The hospitality was great. The room was immaculately clean and comfortable. The food was incredible. The staff were friendly and the owners were awesome. Im booking again soon!
Outstanding in every way.....I highly recommend Walkability: Access for everyone :) Food and drinks: Perfectly timed and executed - professional wait staff - the food was excellent - great selection
Great food & drinks, amazing waitresses & waiters, beautiful inside & out. Highly recommend you dine here at least once to experience it.
Fanciest joint Ive been to in a while!!
We had a fabulous and fun time dining near Christmastime for our anniversary. Our server Kevin was a true professional, with a gift for words that made all the food sound amazing. He was attentive to detail, and even secured the last crème brûlée in the house for me! Chef Tony delivered on the expectations, and not only was our food warm & savoury for a cold winter night, it was also beautifully and creatively styled. Thanks to the entire staff for helping us have a wonderful experience!
The building is one of the most enchanting historical ever. The owners make you feel more than welcomed, you go as a stranger, and leave as a friend! The food...WOW, best Steak and Seafood ever! The service is amazing , servers are attentive and happy! The Grey Gables Inn and Spa offers you everything you need! A great place to celebrate many things, weddings, weekend get aways and The Oak Door Restaurant! If you havent been there, you need to experience the magic!
Had dinner on the patio last evening. The food was spectacular and excellent service. A beautiful location.
(Same review posted to The Oak Door Bar & Grill location.) Edit: returned for their summer 2021 patio opening and had the best time!!! Delicious updated menu too! Original review: Had a perfect evening here as a group of 4. Beautifully decorated front entrance and warmly welcomed right as you walk in. Dining area was very comfortable and nicely decorated, pleasant quiet dining even with a few groups around. We enjoyed wine and various menu items including two different pastas and the prime rib special. Everything was delicious.
Cross-posted review from The Oak Door Bar & Grill : This was our first time dining out in two years due to COVID, and we had such a fantastic experience here. The food, drinks and atmosphere were all amazing, but the staff really made our experience above and beyond. We felt very safe and comfortable dining outside and can t wait to return.
Delicious food, friendly efficient service. Beautiful setting!
The room and everything was beautiful and thats where it all stops. We came into town for a wedding and brought our son by to get ready for the wedding and the owner decided to corner my wife and I and aggressively inform us that our son wasnt on the reservation. We had to inform him multiple times that our son wasnt staying there in front of our son which made him feel like he wasnt wanted there. Even though our son was staying with family elsewhere. He just made it really awkward. Also if you are there for any business ensure you bring your own hotspot or the ability to tether your phone as the network like the building is from the early 1900s.
Punches way about its weight for Pembroke food options. Excellent service to go with.
Food was fabulous and service was amazing!
Beautiful Inn ,friendly staff. We will be back
Had the Wednesday Surf and turf. Well worth it!
I stayed at Grey Gables Inn in Pembroke from September 24-26 for my Bachelorette weekend with three of my bridesmaids. We had such a wonderful time and the Inn was a great choice. Lets talk about some specifics, the location is excellent. Grey Gables is located on a quiet street in a part of town with lots of heritage buildings, many trees, and is a 5 minute walk away from coffee shops, restaurants, gas stations, and banks. We walked around everywhere without issue. Customer service is really top notch, Lisa and Rugo were lovely hosts and every interaction with them was kind and pleasant. The Inn has an amazing restaurant, tea-room, and spa- these services were the main reason why I booked with them for a fun and relaxing girls weekend. My only regret was not being able to use the spa during our visit because there wasnt anyone working at the spa during our weekend, despite the planning I had made in advance with Lisa. These things happen and we just went some place else in town. I would recommend the Grey Gables Inn to friends and family in a heartbeat! The inn is well decorated, well-kept, and well situated. 5 stars!
My husband and I were visiting Pembroke for a wedding in August and decided to treat ourselves by staying at Grey Gables for the weekend. Unfortunately, we did not have a great stay. I do not like to write negative reviews but hope it provides an opportunity for improvement. Upon check-in, we were told our room had changed and we were upgraded. I had specifically booked a king sized bedroom but we were put in a unit with 2 bedrooms with queen sized beds and a kitchen. Which may sound more glamorous but it wasnt for two people. I had addressed these concerns with reception and the lady noted that they had double booked our room (even though I booked on their website!). We were also told there was no breakfast provided, even though all the emails I had received prior to arriving had said that breakfast will be served 8-9am. Lastly, the smell of cleaning products in the room was extremely strong when we arrived, I may be sensitive, but it was intolerable for me.
This is an attractive property but has limited common spaces and wifi. We were in the Library which had very nice bedding and bathrooms but was too cramped for comfortably doing anything but sleeping. It had only an outside entrance reached by skirting around a small tractor.
Lovely ambiance for a leisurely dinner out. Beautiful surroundings added to the enjoyable menu. Steak was cooked to order!
A beautiful inn, exquisitely decorated with great service and fine dining. I will stay there again!
I didnt get to stay, although I was hoping to. I prefer booking directly at smaller places. The phone wasnt answered, I filled out an online question form, no response. Called the next day, no one answered. I left a message, but no one called back.
Great food!
Beautiful setting, terrific food, gracious server, very friendly and hospitable staff.
Gorgeous place well kept
Absolutely Beautiful!!! Make her feel like a princess.
Great place... great people!!
Lovely historic manor house. Has beautiful spa. Lots of history. Also bed and breakfast.
Beautiful location, however, had a very bad experience with extreme rude management when there for a wedding event.
A hidden gem in the heart of Pembroke! Based in the former mansion of a lumber-baron and built in 1911, Grey Gables has a unique setting with a lot of inherent charm. However, theyve been very successful at blending the inherent attractiveness of a century home with the modern amenities that discerning travellers have come to expect. The service is top notch, and it is a great place to stay if you are a soldier from out of town and the base is full. Each room/suite is unique, elegant, and cozy. The opening of their restaurant and 4-season lanai will make this an even more attractive place to stay. Finally, in the COVID-19 environment, they take staff and guest health very seriously, and have great public health protocols in place. Highly recommended!
Very old world feel. Very friendly staff owners are very friendly and part of the day to day operations. Very nice place to stay
Feels like sleeping in a mansion, plus a great breakfast made me feel like royalty. The people are so nice
My husband and I had a most lovely dinner and stay at the Grey Gables Inn and Spa last Friday. It was the perfect option for a safe getaway from the city. Dinner was held on the patio, which provided an excellent view of the grounds. The wait staff were well educated on the menu and provided recommendations. The quality and freshness of the meal was apparent. Delicious! We were also told of their Rewards Program where you earn points on any dollar spent at the inn (dinner, drinks and your room booking). Upon entering the Inn we were immediately taken aback by the decor and intricate details. Truly, a feast for the eyes! We stayed in the Majestic Room and were again impressed with the endless details and style of the decor. In the morning, we came downstairs and were served a generously portioned gourmet breakfast, perfect start to the day. And if this place didnt have enough charm, we had the opportunity to meet the owners Rigo and Lisa. From the time we arrived till our departure, they ensured we were well looked after and entertained. Thank you for a lovely time -- we will be back. I also like that they have a rewards program where you can collect points on dining and your room.
Great service, beautiful inside and out
The service was excellent. Tiffany was our server. The food was delicious and the owners were lovely too. Looking forward to going back.
Mature couple on driving holiday week after labour day 2020. Called here & left message the morning before arrival to ask about a stay. No courtesy of a reply. As all accommodations to date are mostly empty due to covid we showed up following day. Mask on. Door locked. No signs. A no occupancy sign would have saved parking and troubling him. One car in driveway. Knocked. Door opened and I asked the fellow are you open? He said for what . Duh. I asked about a room and was told they were full . I felt he s in the wrong business for hospitality.
Im not sure why my previous rating was a 2 star but it must have happened in error! Beautifully restored interior and the grounds are lovely as well! I apologize for the previous rating.
We rented rooms in this historic house with a few couples for 2 nights. One couple rented the main floor room that also had the Library attached so this was our main meeting area for our friends - so I highly recommend using this room if you go with several people! The hosts of this house are great - they are very knowledgeable about the history of the house and places to go to in town. There is a restaurant in the Inn that serves a fantastic breakfast!! Theres a spa there as well but it was closed when we were there so we didnt get to experience that part. They also hold a High Tea on Sunday afternoons but we left after our fabulous breakfast so unfortunately we missed it but we have heard great reviews about it! The room we stayed in was bright and spacious with a comfortable king size bed ( we had the Belmoral room). The bathroom was newly renovated and super clean! The other rooms were very comfortable according to our friends who stayed in them with King beds as well! We stayed in early October and the drive to Pembroke was spectacular with the leaves changing!
What a great hotel! Listed as a bed and breakfast, but feels more like an Intercontinental! Didnt know what to expect from our stay, and we were not disappointed. From stem to stern from check-in to the check-out, everything went smoothly and without incident. Owners, who are available and ready to answer any and all questions and concerns. It really makes a difference when the people who own the business are running it as well. Rooms are furnished very nicely, clean and spacious. The rest of the hotel is amazing and drenched in history. Newly opened restaurant looks great, but we were unable to dine there as it is was closed on Mondays. Dang it. Breakfast was really good. Sorry we couldnt enjoy the dinner. Next time! I will be back when in the area. I wish Lisa and Rugo all the best!
Rooms are beautiful, restaurant seems over priced for the amount of food received.
Fantastic food, great ambiance
Was an amazing meal and the staff took amazing care of us. Would highly recommend to people to go and enjoy the amazing atmosphere, service, and delicious food!!!!
Beautiful and wonderful experience
Charming historic manor. Weve been twice. Probably the most characterful place to stay in the Pembroke/Petawawa area. Not kid friendly though.
The owners are very nice and will go over and above to make sure that everything is comfortable for there quest. Beautifull historic building.
This was the first visit to Grey Gables for our group. We definitely plan to return another time.
A beautiful B&B.
The room was spotless , bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious I stayed for three nights and WISH I couldve stayed longer definatley be back on my next business trip ...Fantastic Hosts !!!!
Went for high tea and it was so good. The food was delicious and the place was just beautiful!
Absolutely loved it. Super friendly concierge, great breakfast and beautiful building.
Beautiful Inn. Breakfast was great. Only issue I had ask for my receipt to be email which never happened despite contacting them twice.
Absolutely gorgeous.
When it comes to staying in and around the valley, Grey Gables Inn just cant be matched. When I show friends and colleagues pictures from my stay, they cant believe how astonishing the grounds are, or that they havent heard of this Inn. Upon a friendly check-in, I was given a brief tour of the grounds, and shown to the Majestic room. The sheer size and upkeep of this property is magnificent. The kind management staff and owners do a wonderful job at keeping the Inn clean, up to date and welcoming, while still maintaining the charm and elegance of a historical Victorian manor. I really enjoyed sitting down with my host and learning of the history of the property, and she provided wonderful recommendations for restaurants. Just lounging around the Inn in the evening made me feel like I was spending way more than what the competitive other local rates are. No reason to stay at the budget motels when this is barely a higher rate for far more value. I had to check out early and was going to miss breakfast, but was told that they would wake early and make a special breakfast just for me. This level of accomodation and consideration during my time here makes Grey Gables Inn one of my favourite stays. Beautiful rooms, good conversation, comfortable beds, beautiful grounds. Would absolutely recommend and will definitely be back when the steakhouse opens in the new year!!
Classy and worth it
Great Spa. Just had mini pedi and Mini mani girls day
Very nice ....we recommend it
This is the second time we have stayed at this lovely mansion. The rooms are furnished tastefully with antiques and are large and comfortable. The staff is friendly, extremely helpful and accommodating. Compared to other places to stay in the area the Grey Gables is extremely reasonable and the breakfast is superb!
Great place, cosy and warm. You can really feel the vibe of the 1911 mansion with the comfort of modern amenities. The decor is amazing and the level of service unmatched. We were leaving too early to have breakfast but the staff brought us some morning snacks nonetheless. I would absolutely recommend if youre looking for a relaxing night in a quiet area.
Beautiful place. Great service. Money well spent on a fantastic experience
Luxury at an affordable price. Spacious, comfortable mattress, beautifully appointed rooms and great service. Why choose a hotel when you can stay in castle?
The tea was amazing - the food, phenomenal - the ambiance, spectacular. Highly recommended for a very nice time out with a friend or loved one.
Lovely place with lovely people and ama ing food
Its like staying in a castle. The owners personally served breakfast, cooked on the spot. Room was reasonably sized. King sized bed was very comfortable. I dont think it was conventional spring mattress. More like foam. Ensuite bathroom was spacious.
Absolutely lovely place and helpful, friendly staff.
I attended their Royal Wedding High Tea and it was wonderful. They had great attention to detail including making the same cake as the Royals were having. Well staffed and professional!
We must have gone on a bad day. The waitstaff seemed stressed and the owners were very unwelcoming/unkind. We were there for the Mothers Day tea (with my mother down from Ottawa). I am sorry to say that the offer to comp our tea if we stayed was too late to make the outing enjoyable. It seems like a nice location but I wont be back.
My husband and I just had a wonderful stay at the Grey Gables Inn. The Inn is a beautiful old house with a lot of character. The service was fantastic. We had a couples massage and dinner and breakfast served in our room. All of the staff were attentive and clearly did all that they could to make our stay special. We will definitely be back!
Just a beautiful and cozy place to stay. Excellent clean and comfortable rooms Delicious breakfast and cheerful welcome. Will be back.
Wonderful cozy inn within a historic home in Pembroke. Enjoy large period rooms, communal breakfast with other guests, visit with the owners. Having grown up living near or driving by this grand manor all of my younger years, it was a pleasure to stay. Will be returning, and highly recommend it to anyone.
Amazing rooms, great antique feel with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Will definitely be back for another visit!
A very beautiful gem in Pembroke. Would recommend going for high tea just for the experience and to be able to see the inside of the building. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was slightly formal and enjoyable. Only downside to our visit would be that the people who I assume are the owners both separately came and stood at our table to chat longer than seemed acceptable which kind of interrupted our conversation.
Food and tea were delicious. Beautiful Ambience and lovely staff.
Beautiful location. Was here for a wedding reception. Beautifully decorated. Meal service seems a little chaotic and unorganized but beautiful ambiance.

I have booked this hotel trough Expedia, and was unable to go there. Expedia states the policy is 50% refund for no-show. I called the hotel to let them know we are not coming, and that I understand we will be charged 50% of the fee. They dont have 24 hours reception, and I was kind enough to call and not keep someone to wait for us. A month later, I am still dealing with them to retrieve my 50% back. Today Expedia answered me the following: Kindly note that we tried to reach the vendor multiple times via phone and e-mail to get approval for the cancellation, but we were not able to get a response from them. I am unfortunately unable to comment on the facilities, but my next trip I will definitely book somewhere else due to the BAD management.
Amazing tea room and very gracious and hospitable owners.
Great hospitality and yummy food. The inn is glorious.
Hosted our small, intimate wedding. Staff was friendly and helpful. Meal was incredible ! I will recommend this this venue to everyone!
old, historic, comfortable, creaky floor feels - like having grandma and grandpa care for you - breakfasts were yum
Great place.
Very rare place
Beautiful place. Must see. Very nice house with extraordinary interior. House in excellent condition. Breakfast is very good.
The tea room was an excellent venue for a professional meeting. Good food and good service !
Stunning 1900s mansion turned B&B. Massive, multi-room suites with beautifully crafted woodwork and furnishings. You wont find many places like this.
Went for afternoon tea with friends. Food was good as was the tea selection. Room were tea is served is very hot in the afternoon sun. So if you go on a warm day expect the room to be sweltering ( or perhaps the AC just wasnt working.) Overall an enjoyable experience.
Beautiful Victorian era home, decent food, swanky drinks. Attended a wedding here and enjoyed it. Could use some better air conditioning.
It was OK but old and creepy if you like that sort of think
Absolutely amazing place to stay. Beautiful building and room, friendly and helpful staff and owners. We enjoyed a relaxing evening here.
Beautiful place! The owners were so kind and breakfast was delicious! Will be returning.
Wonderful step back in history. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Worth visiting just to see.
Hello The Photos , Service and Staff cannot be simply captured with words alone. Its truly an Experience that shouldnt be missed and having traveled to numerous Exotic and out of the way destinations , I sincerely rank this as one of my favorites. Vancouver , B.C.
Awesome property.
I just had the worst experience with the owner. I had previously contacted her about renting two rooms for my wedding party (one girls, one guys), but she wasnt able to officially book anything as I was contacting her early (im an organized, planned person) and she didnt have a calendar for the next year available at the time. This I completely understood, and she told me to contact her a few weeks before the wedding. I decided to check in early to get loose ends tied up. Now she informs me that I wouldnt be able to use the rooms for the wedding as check in is at 11. I offer to rent the rooms for the day before as well as the day of, so I am fully paying for two days and using them for a total of about 6 hours! she says that I can pay for them, but she wont allow me to bring hair/ make up or photographer into the rooms! photographers are only allowed in the entrance hallway and staircase at an extra 100/hr. So, after having my heart set on using this GORGIOUS building for my winter wedding, im heart broken that I cant have myself and my very small wedding party get ready there. Even with paying her a total of $800.00 plus tax for a few hours. Thankfully, Im an organized person and tried contacting her earlier than she has asked me to, and I didnt wait to have all my plans changed just weeks before!!!!
Spent our first night as husband and wife there, and we loved it! The staff were wonderful (they brought us breakfast in bed! <3), our room was amazing and the wedding pictures we took there are great! Id love to go back!
