Shanloon Restaurant in Pembroke

Very poor services we waited 10 minutes for the waitress to come over she poured our water asked what we would like to drink then waited another 10 min for our drinks. A little pricey Back after a few years and really gone down hill. Save my money by not coming back.

Only go once a year , and they are always on time and everything is there , you never have to question if something was missed or quality ..building needs renovation something fierce .. they would do well in a newer bigger building and they deserve it.. place is always hopping and for good reason

Chicken wings and chicken balls were over cooked. Fried rice had no flavor. Even the white rice was not very good. Restaurant is in need of an overhaul / renovation. Looks very run down. Food

Went there yesterday got served raw pork. Ate multiple pieces in sauce before hitting on no sauce to see it still goes oink. I will never return my stomach and body doesnt deserve this

Waitress was great. She was all on her own fielding tons of phone orders. It was our first dine-in experience since pandemic, so nicely there werent a lot of other customers eating in. The food was very good, better than I had remembered.

Best buffet ever

This is the best Chinese food that I have ever had. The staff was courteous. We ordered from there for a group. It was recommended as the best place in town to eat. They were not wrong.

They set the time for pick up, yet werent ready for us when we arrived and the food wasnt good (compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area). It was over cooked/dry. I strongly suggest you go to new star or golden lake instead.

The food is 99% of the time great, my issue the last umpteen times Ive been is the service, not that the servers are bad but that the owners dont do more to make sure that they arent overwhelmed and overworked. Too many times I have been here when its extremely busy and they have one server running the entire restaurant which takes away from their customers. Seating, serving, answering the phone taking take out orders, drink refills, or even getting drinks for that matter along with buying their own tables and finally cashing out the customers is NOT I repeat NOT the job of 1 single person. Do better Shanloon, hire more staff or get out there yourselves and help those poor servers who are doing their best and constantly having to apologize to YOUR patrons.

Nothing like it used to be. 4 star food, even with dirty seating area we enjoyed it regularly.. Now Alot of dishes are dried out and barely edible. Seems like it day old.?.

We always order from shanloon but I must say tonights dinner was the best we have had! Take out has really gone down hill since covid took over so thank you all for making the first meal I havent complained about in a year

Awesome food

So I just got back from shanloon restaurant , where I tried to order some takeout. I went in person so I could avoid calling the order in and being put on hold for long periods of time. I approached the counter to place my order. The person who takes the orders was on the phone taking an order, she motioned to me she would be with me in a minute. Then she proceeded to take another call and another call ,it was going on ten minutes and still no service. So I left. If Shanloon doesnt see any value in customer standing right in front of them I guess they dont need my business. .

Finally!!!! Ive been here almost a year and have tried every Chinese food joint from Pembroke to Deep River. This was the last one and its pretty dang good!! Will definitely be back!!

Great experience, lady running tables is like a firecracker. Doesnt miss a beat while answering calls waiting tables and filling takeout out orders.

It s not often I post FIVE stars but when I do it s because of quality. Service and selection. A real almond sauce. Fresh vegetables. The quantity was fair and fed everyone in the family. We will be back for more! Michael and Gabe

OK I am a little biased. I lived here for 10 of my 50 years and ran a business, the other 40 Ive been in the GTA. So, my expectations are a little higher for Chinese food. Extended periods in Asia also didnt help. A little bummed the Asian place next to Ulriches is gone now actually. Now Shanloon is a standard buffet house. Run ragged because no one wants to work Called supper in, got a pick up time 1 hr 45 min later. Fair enough. I got there not done another 15 so 2 hr fair enough. Dinner for 4 or 5 I cant remember just shy of 70 bucks. No drinks, that is a little rich considering. The service was fine. The actual food tasted pretty fine. But guys look at your fryers please. Every item, and that is most. Looked like it was burnt to a crisp. Not because it was over cooked but your oil is old

Buffet Review Only : Food was pretty good. Some times its a bit dry as its been sitting a while since it was slow. However going when the buffet opens is your best time. Ive enjoyed 80% of what they serve and service was great. If the buffet tastes good then the takeout is probably just as good if not better. Call for pickup and arrive on time. Dont come early, its chinese food its never early.

Because of COVID there can be no buffet. We ordered the dinner for four instead of combination plates to have a bit more variety. I like the way you get to construct these multi-person dinners. Had food left over to take home. Priced fairly.

Weve avoided coming here for about a year due to bad people skills and customer service. We had to get a refund and leave because our takeout wasnt ready an hour and a half after calling it in. We wanted to give it another try and I believe the same lady took our order on the phone. She was quite rude and short while speaking. We were waiting at the restaurant to pick up our takeout and a waitress never even acknowledged that we were there. A couple walked in and no one greeted them so they left. Im just taken back by how continually mismanaged this restaurant is. The customer service is awful. Yes its a small town but that doesnt make it ok to treat people poorly while giving businesses money to treat themselves. Especially when we are paying for our food. I can make great meals at home but decide to eat out for a treat. It makes me not want to order from here ever again. We expect proper service. However the food tasted good.

Ive never eaten at the buffet here, I have done takeout 3 times. I find the food quality and pricing is typical of Chinese restaurants in this area. Ordering off the takeout menu is easy and food is generally ready within the estimated timeframe given. The portion sizes are generous. My wife and I typically order the meal for four and it definitely yields 4 generously portioned plates with even a little extra. I like the bonuses they give for pick-up (free serving of chicken wings for pick-up orders of $55 or more). I think its the best Chinese restaurant in the area. I didnt give it a 5th star because although the food is good, its not so special that it merits a 5th star in my opinion. That being said its good enough that I dont feel the need to drive to Ottawa to get my Chinese fix.

Although the food was good the buffet was having a hard time keeping any! Too many take out orders so the buffet was not being refilled. Desserts didnt have much of a choice. Price was good, 4 adult buffet meals for 70 bucks taxes in. May or may not give it another try.

One of the best

Food quality is always great! I often compare the big city restaurants to the local Shanloon, rarely get a winner! Only thing that needs improvement is the wait staff (may be due to understaffed). The whole time we were there we were not checked up on once or asked if we needed refills. We always generously tip. But what do you do in that circumstance? We still left a great tip after waiting several minutes to pay. Tipped in case they forgot about sitting us in far back corner of restaurant lol!

Our first and last! When we asked for a menu we were told the chef was to busy and they had buffet. We literally ate a partial plate because the food was that bad. We still had to pay $82!! I wouldnt let my dog eat there!.

My wife and I will NEVER go back to this place again! There was a BITE taken out of one of my spare ribs! You could see the teeth print in it plain as day! I showed it to her and she agreed. I would have rather she said, Its all in your head!, but she agreed that was exactly what it was. It was likely from someone elses plate and thrown back in the deep fryer because the teeth marks the same colour as the rest of the meat! Just refried! GROSS!!! ZERO stars if I could!

Wonderful classic decor, friendly personal service, my partner had the buffet I only had coffee as I had just eaten, no judgement or hassle. Good Samaritan even paid our bill before we even started, paying it for ward. A great place to ask someone to marry you. Or whatever.

UPDATE** I have dental insurance, however my out of pocket expense to repair the damage to my tooth was $75. I presented my bill to the owner who paid it right away and I really appreciated that. So, i actually ordered from this restaurant occasionally over the past couple years and never had a problem. The food is mediocre but whatever its Pembroke. HOWEVER - tonight i found a staple in a spring roll (we ordered a dozen) and called and they offered me six free spring rolls. A minute later I discovered i had chipped a lower molar on the staple so i called back to ask for a refund because we dont want the rest of them and they actually did not answer the phone! They avoided my call. Yeah, so they get one star. Shame. This sucks. I called back with a blocked number and got through, because I figure they at least owe me a refund (which i got in full).
