Review edit, September 2024 Since COVID the value menu has shrunk and the food quality has tanked. Prices are up, quality is down but the atmosphere is still 5/5 Chances are we won t ever come back here.

Once ordered chicken wings while staying at the hotel and the staff added an $18 tip on $30 wings (only 6 pieces). Absolutely insane and horrifying. Never ever staying at this hotel ever again if this is how they re running this business!!! Completely put off!!

Our Server was Cameron. She was a lovely professional person. The food was timely and delicious. I had to take pictures all over the bar because it is just amazing in there. Crazy cool murals. Guitars on display from the likes of Kim Mitchell, U2, Arrowsmith, Nelly Furtado, Sting and more. Cool rap/ hip-hop from my era n massive tvs. We were there before 5 but by the time we left, all the cotton tops were there for dinner and no complaints about the music. Then the game came on. Even the bathroom was amazing

We had an amazing time at the Barking Parrot Bar! A place with great views and a fun vibe that keeps you coming back. The real highlight of the evening was our server, Camryn. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect. Whether it was recommendations from the menu or just making sure we were taken care of, she went above and beyond to make our night special. Well definitely be returning, and I hope we get to see Camryn again next time!

My partner and I had a very lovley experience at the barking parrot. We were served by a lovley waitress Ariel who had very good menu knowledge and recommended the pumpkin spice shaft! From checking up on us to menu recommendations to keeping our drinks filled up and bellys full her amazing service complemented the fantastic view the patio has to offer!! 10/10 would definitely recommend! She made our dinner here and will be coming back!

Its OK food but good service. Nothing special otherwise. 2 stars for food and 4 for service for a total score of 3. As far as bars go its the same as any other if you want to get gooned.

New experience...(Oct 14/24) Same lackluster non engaging service still and sadly to report. Food was not too bad and they get away with it all because of the view (I guess). Darn. I have come here for yrs and yrs over time and it saddens me to only give this place I have nice mems at a 2/2.5 stars, darn. Plus...country music ONLY now??? WHY???! Below was about a yr and so ago... Today, Apr 2, I celebrated my birthday with a friend during the day 1st and we golfed at St Andrews. Could have stopped in anywhere after golf for lunch but we decided on Barking Parrot after 18 holes played. They really need more servers here on a Sunday! And more attentive servers! Waited a very long time to just see our server as an introduction being in there and finally ordered after I had to flag anyone down to see us after our patience was running out. Then I had to ask another guy if our food order was ready as it was another longer than average wait for the food to come out. Sure enough it came out right away after asking on it as our supposed to be server did not just go and check on it! Luckily it was still hot enough when served. Then she did not come and ask if all was ok! Is this NOT the very least a server can do??? The steak sandwich was good but what if it werent??? Maybe I wanted another water or one more beer to make it two max??? This was not that enjoyable today and even less so having to write a negative on it. The 2 stars is cause at least the steak was good.

Slow service food was warm, not hot. Update.... following night I had the worst stomach cramps, nausea, etc. that Ive had in years. Cramps continued for four days. Ill never have fish & chips here again. Maybe just beer. Just getting over it. Update, I went again, had pizza and so far Im not sick

The food was absolutely horrendous. Tasted old and gross. The lady that helped us was nice at least but highly do NOT recommend this place.

This place is iconic. I love their menu. I love the prices. Don t ever change. Canada Day 2024 - the dj is playing the best 80s/90s music. I love it.

My friend and I were there at a very busy time, Canada Day. We got plenty of food for a great price. Very friendly service. Onion rings were okay, but no flavour. A bit disappointed with that.

Came in today around 5pm with my husband and sat on the patio. The place was relatively quiet. We sit in the middle of the patio at a two seat table and 16 minutes go by with not one hello , what you want got any menus? , nothing. All we got was eye contact from 3 different servers then ignored. My husband politely asked a blonde waitress, excuse me, can we order a few things? she responded with a bothered tone um I can grab you a server while walking away. We did not respond, we quietly got up and left.

Spent the weekend there at the hotel and really tried to give this place a chance but our server was unbelievably rude. We made small talk as a group, tried to be friendly, joke around, and just ended up getting spoken to like she didn t even want to be there. We had a huge group in for the weekend and spent thousands at this hotel and this restaurant. Customers shouldn t have to put up with rude attitudes, and then be expected to tip you 20+ percent. lol are you kidding me do better lady, you re miserable and it s not our fault you hate working there. Never to return.

A great place to spend a hot evening in Penticton. There is not a better view in Penticton. The food and drinks were exactly what we expected and we will be back.

Stopped in for a drink with a friend. Service was friendly and prompt. Great prices for drinks. Stunning views to take in. Too bad it was raining so we didnt get a chance to enjoy the patio. The menu had a 10 dollar section as well as the usual pub grub which we may partake next visit. Overall good vibes. Parking: Best to do a passenger drop off at hotel entrance for any mobility concerns. Not sure if parkade has an elevator.

It s a good place to hang out if you like to dance but from my experience the music is the same every time , specially on the weekends, i wish the Dj would play new music.

Typical interior BC pub with decent food and sticky tables. Its like being 19 again.

We came here after the Ice Cube concert at 11pm. Kitchen was already closed despite everyone wanting food. We filled up on alcohol instead. Line to get in was about 25 minutes because the ID machine broke down. Drink prices are reasonable. Drink lines were a bit long. Bar area takes cash only. Pro tip: Order drinks from the waitress roaming around. She is faster than the bartenders. You can also pay her with a card instead of cash. The one bathroom stall doesnt lock in the mens room. DJ was great. We danced a while. I wish on concert nights it would stay open until 3 (thats likely a bylaw issue, though). Overall, it was a good experience. I just know now to order from the roaming server instead of standing in line at the bar.

Its a seedy pub. In a nice hotel. The menu is very limited. Some menu items are great some are just ok. It doesnt compare to some pubs in Penticton. It could use more vegetarian items like plant based burgers, sandwiches, etc. The staff was thorough, friendly and happy even though it was a full house. Kudos to them. I gave 4 stars for the pub itself but in a nice hotel I should have given it a 2 star rating. Maybe the summer months would be better since it is overlooking the Okanagan Lake but a nice view doesnt replace a less than average menu.

Awful experience with the server tonight. We usually like going Parrot, liked the food and drinks and atmosphere but tonight this waitress was beyond rude.. Whomever this mean server was (Thursday Feb 8) caused this terrible experience.. and I highly recommend to the owner of Parrot to change the menu so it s less confusing for readers.. and hire a server that can help customers with the choices..

I used to proudly give 5 star to this place but tonight experience was incredibly horrible. Even foods weren t taste as good as before. My opinion, Parrot s management definitely have to provide more training for their staff to keep the atmosphere delightful to their customer. Not sure if I want to recommend Parrot anymore!!

Horrible service at The parrot. After a great meal next door for a birthday. One in our group was refused service. No reason as our friend had a couple drinks at dinner and thats it. Was sent a new server once we complained and was given a drink...missing the alcohol and a spoiled gone bad glass of wine. WILL NEVER GO BACK. NO APOLOGIES GIVEN. Sorry we were not your 20 years old. Management training your staff better.

Good service

Service was fantastic. The beer was cold and fresh. The food was crisp, delicious and properly seasoned.

Went on a non-busy day and it still took a long time to get drinks. We had someone come up to us when we first arrived asking if we wanted table service.... But that was the only time we saw them.

I had your fish & chips McCain super fries and the fish is not fresh its shipped frozen to you and when served it looks like 2 egg rolls and dry. It cost nothing to mount a proper fry cutter to a wall. Cut a potato and serve fresh crispy fries. Youll never catch me there again! Supply your chef with fresh ingredients. Youre a restaurant not a bloody McDonalds. As a person thats passionate about cooking. Huge disappointment!

Sue was our server and she was top notch incredible. It was super busy as there was a concert and a play upstairs and she still was very prompt, friendly and unflustered. Amazing place. We ve been coming here since 2015 regularly and it s one of our favorite places (my wife and I).

The place has a very vibrant and lively atmosphere, however we showed up on a Friday night expecting it to more a 23-47ish crowd, not a bunch of silver haired senior citizens! Maybe we came at the annual swingers ball? Kekekekeke.

Had the Chicken Fajita Wrap and it was super delicious. Highly recommended!

Always love coming here for the pool tournament in the Lakeside hotel. Would be nice if they had more gluten free food options on the menu. Great place for dancing and drinks.

Im from Kelowna but I go here when I want to go out. Everytime Ive gone Ive had a great experience with the bouncers and bartenders. Highly reccomend checking this place out.

They got Penticton by the short and curlies. A monopoly on the only place to go have drinks and hit the dance floor. I think given that, they dont have to try very hard. Music was good and kept people dancing, drinks were were ok. Little pricey for what they were. No table service, so had to head up to the bar for drinks with people pushing and cutting line. This is an update, manager was concerned about our experience which shows they care. Awesome to see, thank you.

Had a late lunch here on April 23/23 and I have to say that Vincent is a SUPER STAR! He filled all the roles. He bussed tables, brought everyone their food, took food orders, made sure the pub was clean at all times, wrote down what alcohol was needing to be ordered, went behind the bar as needed to pour drinks and more! He absolutely hustled the entire couple hrs we were there. Incredible work ethic and this young man deserves recognition in a huge way!!!!

Always a great place

My band played there. Staff and management were friendly and accommodating. Stage is a bit weird in that people can just walk across it without realizing they are on stage. Really cool decor. Lovely view of Lake.

What a great meal & awesome view dining on the patio. Im not here often but the next time Im through this will most definitely be on my list of places to eat.

We dropped in for lunch it was nice experience service was nice but not exceptional. Our request for ice water with lemon came in a plastic glass and no lemon. I was expecting a little more attention for a nice place like this.

There was nothing wrong with the food, servers, or restaurant it just was anything special. Its a well used nightclub that hasnt seen paint or anything new done to it in years, well used might be the phrase. The food was good but half size of my local pub. Everything was OK.

Absolutely horrible place and horrible service. Sat down for 45 minutes and had no interaction with staff, we were told not my section . By the time we asked again and got only drink menus, no one came back to even order us drinks after 25 minutes. Do better.

Fun on a Sunday!

Came here Saturday evening for dinner and drinks, once seated we were informed that there was a 1 hour wait for food from the kitchen. fine no problem, it s a long weekend. But it took almost 2 hours for our table to get food while the tables around us who showed up after us got their food before us. Once the food arrived it was mediocre at best, fries were cold and super underwhelming. The only good thing about the experience was our server who was friendly.

I emailed the management personally and didnt hear a response so would like to inform others of the horrendous manager that was on shift on a busy Sunday. Our server was running off her feet, no one was helping her and when we asked for the manager TWICE, she denied to come to us. Service was HORRIBLE although it was not our servers fault, she had no team support whatsoever. The food was pretty decent and the view was amazing, but Rose you let your team down hella bad that day. Absolutely would NOT RETURN.

Great burgers!

The best part of this bar is the waterfront patio. I would come back just for the view alone. The patio has shade so it s enjoyable even on sunny days. I was disappointed by the calamari but the Reuben s and pizza were good. Overall the food isn t amazing but it s decent bar food. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free pizza was available. Substitutions were easy to arrange. Parking: Motorcycle and electric vehicle parking right out front, plus a surface lot and parkade for normal vehicles.

The server was friendly but obviously filling in for someone very slow service and got the order wrong. Very dirty conditions its a dive bar in a nice resort. The table was sticky, and there was food spilled on the floor by th rest room that was dried from perhaps the night before. Too bad I had high hopes for this place.

This afternoon we ordered nachos. After 45 min they said it would be another 20-30 min. We canceled our order and left. O M G.

Don t be fooled by the great location and reasonable prices. The service here is horrendous. We came on a Tuesday evening around sunset, after the dinner rush and we have been here for two hours already with no food and one round of drinks. It s not even a matter of being slammed, too busy or understaffed because there are zero people inside and the patio is less than half full. Moreover, when we inquired about the status of our order, we were met with significant attitude. They don t care and therefore don t deserve your money.

In what universe does it take over an hour to make a sandwich? Its pretty clear this place must be severely understaffed. I highly recommend with all the other options locally that you go literally anywhere else.

Ive been to the Parrot a few times, and the patio never disappoints. Average pub food, but its the location that cant be beat.

Be prepared to wait. It took over an hour and us asking before our food order arrived. Nothing special about the food, fine but could have gotten the same anywhere. Not even a comped drink or apology. Do not recommend this place unless you just want to drink.

If youre looking for a place to have dinner, do not waste your time here. We arrived and were received by the rudest waitress, we proceeded to finding our own table, and ordering drinks, which took a good 10mins to arrive. We ordered food, it took 1hr for them to bring the food, without any apologies for the wait. The wings were passable, but the pizza was so bad nobody ate it!! No good vegetarian options. Drinks are cheap, but they take at least 10-15mins to arrive. Very pretty view. Good place for drinks only I guess

Food was fantastic! Loved the lakeside dining and view was great. Once it got dark, the lighting on the patio was quite dark. Also didn t love country night but that s just preference. Would go again!

Was a great evening on the patio

Tried to come here for a drink and were told to seat ourselves, and after about 10 minutes someone (who seemed VERY unhappy to be there) dropped off menus and told us another server would be over to help us. We waited a good 20 minutes and no one ever came to serve us so we left. The restaurant was practically empty and they had about 6 servers working so I m really not sure what the issue was. The service is exactly as others have stated: abysmal and embarrassing.

Should have read the reviews first. Took us over an hour just to place an appy order. Dinner came at the 2 hour mark. We would have ordered more drinks but waitress was not to be seen. The inside part of restraunt only had 1 table used. Outside was less than half full. We cleared our own tables dirty dishes to another table to make room for dinner. I have worked in the same field as this for years so I do get it. We wont be back.

Its the Parrot. For lack of choice, its in the middling range. Somewhat stark and not really inviting atmosphere. Food decent for a not-surprising price. Waite staff could use either A) More training and/or B) More experience Drink prices... what youd expect of a beachfront bar, but should have more specials over winter to draw in customers.

The Barking Parrot Bar was very nice. We sat outside and it was lovely.

It is acceptable only for the view of the lake, because the food is not varied, it was average to bad (we ordered a salad, nachos and chicken wings) and the service was very poor since you had to signal to the waitress to that he attended to us every time we needed drinks and his treatment towards us was always very sparing, almost as if he were doing us a favor to serve us. Its a shame about the place since it has a very good location.

We were there last night, September 10/22. Was the worst food ever! Our waiter was awesome and had come to our table 4 times to apologize for our long wait. It was not busy either. Another couple at a table beside us sent their food back telling us it was disgusting. It took an hour and a half to receive the garbage food. We will never return. Again, our waiter was awesome and he took my meal off the menu and half off of my husband s. Can t believe there isn t management that seems to care about this. Do better!

Very disappointed in the food.

Came here for supper, was extremely disappointed. Perhaps the worst meal i have had in a very long time. Had the beef dip, but both the sandwich and the au jus were completely flavourless and quite honestly disgusting. Girlfriend had the beef quesadilla, which had quite literally no cheese on it. Others in the party were all also severely disappointed. Took 15 minutes for our server to come to our table initially, and then only came by again to give us the bill. Will not be returning thats for sure. Should have read the reviews before going but was recommended by someone at a winery so went without checking.
