We had the five course option and it was amazing. Plus it was the birthday of one of the guests and they brought out a small birthday cake. Service was excellent and tastes were interesting and varied.
We have been there a number of times and chose it again for a family celebration. The staff and the ambience are amazing. Usually the food is too. We selected the tasting menu We also chose the upsell on the menu and were not disappointed. Superb in fact. A couple of our group were smokers and by the time it came to the Baked Alaska course saw the Chef racing at high speed through the parking lot. They found it quite humorous until this course arrived. It sadly was inedible. We didn’t complain, although it was clear. Instead we continued to enjoy the incredible service. With the bill being in excess of £1200 for our indulgences would we go again? Yes. However, a subtle acknowledgment would have been gratefully received. Well done staff.
We thoroughly enjoyed dining in the restaurant- the food was gorgeous and it was enough to fill us up. Service was great with a good amount of check ins from the staff. Staff were good with allergens and extra requests.
“Hidden Gem I stumbled upon this place through a simple Google search and wasn’t expecting much, but it turned out to be exceptional. We opted for the 2-course lunch, and every detail impressed us. The amuse-bouche was delightful, setting the tone for the meal. I chose the duck as my main course, and it was not only delicious but also generously portioned. If you find yourself near Oundle or Elton, this is definitely a spot worth stopping at for a memorable lunch. Highly recommended!”
We went for an option of "blind 5 course tasting menu". I was more than impressed with the diversity that we've received for 50£ per person. Plenty of high quality vegetables, and the olive muss was mind blowing. Recommend to pair it with a bottle of British pinot noir (recommended by a very helpful waiter). The atmosphere is really relaxing and calm, perfect for a family reunion.
4 of us for lunch on a Saturday, a wonderful culinary experience. We chose the a la carte menu and it was divine. Canapés, black pudding brioche, pre-dessert course and petit fours came as part of the meal as well as the stunning main items. Flavour, texture and presentation were all excellent. A very pleasant Sancerre and Primitivo added to the pleasure. This is a place to experience excellent fine dining and I'm sure we'll be returning
Lovely place. We sat outside and had lunch with a friend. We had few small nibbles and food was delicious, full of flavour. There was quiet music playing and very nice atmosphere. The lady serving us was very nice and helpful. We will be back. Drinks were tasty and serve in a big glass. I would say it's almost 2 drinks in one.
The perfect evening The best food, prepared by wonderful chefs. Lovely staff who are so attentive to all your needs and extremely polite. Worth every penny. Flawless
Our experience was perfect. Stylish and confident cooking, friendly hospitality and a beautiful dining room. Exceptional.
Expensive but nice food
Just over a week ago on a Thursday evening. Everything was excellent - lovely setting but the night we went it was exceedingly quiet. So strange atmosphere but it didn t dampen our spirits., Family 50th celebration. The food was extremely good and tasty. We loved the small brioche buns and all the main courses chosen from the A La Carte menu. Everything was presented well and the service was attentive but not overpowering. The star of the whole show for me was the utterly sublime pear soufflé. Splendid night all round. Thanks to chefs and all staff
Went out to celebrate a birthday ,4 of us ended up with food poisoning.
not often can I say I had a fantastic meal. had lamb rump celeric mash and rice. was amazing. will definitely return Food : 5/5 |
Lovely summers day eatery, beautiful garden and great service.. Will be back !
Loved our visit so much. Wonderful experience. Dietary restrictions: Brilliant plant based menu - delicious. Food : 5/5 |
Very expensive for a few lettuce leaves and 4 small pieces of lobster tail. When it says Lobster salad anyone could do better than this for £28.
We took our daughters there for Sunday dinner (5 & 10yr old), which is the only day children are allowed in so Im led to believe. The kids werent that bothered by it unfortunately, clearly not beige enough, (maybe weve spoilt them) The food was great and they catered well for my wife as she has celiac (no gluten) and her dinner was great. We will definitely come again and leave the kids at home with some pringles as theyre philistines and dont appreciate good food.
Phoned them very rude staff
Went to Chubbys today and had the blind tasting menu it was delicious so nicely presented staff very good and helpful would definitely recommend it and will go back again.
Highly recommend going for the 7 course tasting menu here very very nice and lovely village location. Be prepared to spend a lot of money but its 100% worth it.
The food was delicious, service, excellent. My partner and I had a great experience thanks so much.
Just spent two hours enjoying a long lunch of the most delicious seasonal tasting menu. Staff were friendly and knowledgable, attentive, and proactive. We re visiting from London and have eaten at Michelin restaurants in 9 countries(England, Spain, Germany, France, Korea, Holland, Germany, America, and Italy) and the Chubby Castor did not disappoint! Booked last minute on a whim and have been so impressed. Highly recommend.
Absolutely beautiful food. And the service as exceptional as the food. This is a special place for special occasions. Food
Something is wrong at the chubby. We are regulars at this restaurant and the food is the best in the area as it was tonight. The staff are normally super friendly but tonight it s as though they were suppressed and very unhappy. Can only assume a change in management. I hope it s a temporary thing.
Amazing food, service and atmosphere. We went for my partners 30th birthday and ordered the plant-based set menu. The food was incredible and they went above and beyond to make us feel welcome - even printing out a small card that wished him happy birthday as well as a happy birthday dessert plate. We were also given much more than just the three courses expected, with canapés and palate cleansers in between dishes that were all incredible. The whole experience was really special!
We had a great experience, the food was well presented and delicious.
Love it
Proper Posh - but with really friendly service.
Fabulous meal fabulous experience high standards very friendly and professional staff. We even received a complimentary dish of steak tartare when it wasn t on the menu. Highly recommended to everyone!
The restaurant is glam, smart and very welcoming. The staff is professional and kind. All courses were beautifully presented, well explained and tasty. Vegetarian options: There is a complete vegetarian menù.
Had the tasting menu . Exceptional food and service
Amazing restaurant.. I will definitely come back!!
Great food and service
Lia. Is returner forever
Simply the greatest restaurant of all, how this place doesn t have many Michelin stars is beyond me. It is simply perfect.
Me and my wife had an amazing dining experience for our anniversary, which exceeded our expectations. Smart and modern interior settings with a very calm and cosy atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and provided us with absolutely professional service, which made us feel special. The food presentations were spectacular, and regarding the taste, I dont have the words to explain how delicious everything was. Thank you, Chubby Castor, that you made our anniversary so special and memorable. We will definitely visit you again!
Lovely place and amazing food and service! We just walked in after going skydiving in Peterborough not knowing its fine dining place so we were dressed quite inappropriately for such a resaurant The staff still treated us nicely and did not point that out like they would in some posh restaurants.
Food, wine very good. The service was extremely high, the maitre d was very knowledgeable and engaging.
Extraordinarily high quality food and wine. A brilliant lunch - great service, very knowledgable staff, can t wait to return
Fantastic food and the service was exceptional, so many great wine suggestions. Mid-week was a little quiet so we felt very well attended.
Really good food and attentive service
We mentioned our daughters B-day on the reservation and they had a table set up with a rose and a card when we arrived, and even gave an additional Happy Birthday desert at the end of the meal. The food was great, and the service was amazing. I couldn t have chosen a better place to celebrate!! Vegetarian options: There was a plant based option on the menu. Parking: Parking wasn t an issue, and easy to find.
It was absolutely amazing. Staff were so friendly, and the chefs food was out of this world. Parking: Great location.
We went on a very quiet evening, mid week for a birthday. Food was truly exceptional. Michelin quality. We come to visit this area now and again to see family and so always on the look out for new places to eat. The Chubby Castor will become our new favourite place for special occasions.
So we decided to revisit the Chubby as we believe in chances. Previously, we were let down with enduring the full experience of not only the culinary aspect of fine dining but the embodiment of being submerged in the whole Breathe taking experience good some great and of course amazing culinary fine dining experience restaurant/s have and/or are offering. Greeted at the door gave the name of the reservation and was told I was the first one of the party of 4. Was asked if I would like something to drink whilst I waited. In which I replied confidently I would love an old fashioned. Sorry we dont do cocktails but here are our whiskeys or some champagne or bubbly perhaps. I politely passed. My party arrived and we were a table of four with only two other tables with guest being seated and dining. We opt in for doing a blind tasting buy opt out for the blind wine pairing. However we were looking to have a glass or two of wine to help enhance the food portion of the afternoon. It seemed to us that the wine selection which was nice didnt quite fit what we were looking for and when asked the reply was well we tried those and they didnt work. Maybe a bit more of ...have you had ... or I would suggest trying.... or with my experience I think this wine would be the closest to what you are looking for. Water it will be please. A bottle of both still and sparkling was ordered. Food starting coming out and it started off great and truthfully stayed that way until the end. What wasnt great was the service of the waiter focusing more a bit on the smaller things. Like what you ask... like dont only fill up the glasses of the guest drinking sparkling water and not the still. The guest grabbed twice for their cups forgetting that they had drunk their water and theirs werent refilled but, the sparkling was. So at one point 1 of the guest decided to get the writers attention when he was right beside our table to be replied with im serving this table ill be right with you. Even though there is nothing wrong with that the fact that we had to grab his attention to ask to receive more water and before we could even ask, to be replied like that wasnt nice. Moving on. Crumbs were spilt and thr table had to be clean. The whole party of 4 in full blown conversation to be interrupted by a floating arm across the table to be followed by a mini handsome portable hoover which was way TOO LOUD. It made us stop the convo and wait until he had finished to proceed with our stories. Finishing up took way too long to get their attention to fork up the bill so we had to get up to get them and took about the same amount of time to actually settle the bill which once again had to grab the attention. Seemed like way too much work for the guest who have paid to have a nice time and an even better experience. So the summary would go like this Food 4.5 out of 5 Service 2.5 out of 5 Experience 3.5 out of 5 It felt to vacant. Dietary restrictions: Wife was a pescatarian and they were fine with supplements. Parking: There is plenty of space once you pull In to the back of the restaurant.
This was fantastic food expirence.
Great value Sunday lunch. Good veggie options too.
Really nice food and great service.
Plant-based menu was amazing. Its an expensive meal but definitely worth it! Staff are knowledgeable and polite, good service & atmosphere.
Absolutely sensational, it was a true gastronomic journey of culinary delight
Wonderful experience at The Chubby Castor, we had no idea this fantastic gem was on our doorstep until recently! A beautiful culinary experience from start to finish, the expertise and exquisite execution of the balanced taste explosion dishes really wowed us tonight. Thank you for a delicious evening! Highly recommend and we cant wait to come back soon!
Lovely cosy feel, great food and very friendly staff
Fantastic meal. Highly recommended. Exquisite food and a relaxing venue.
It was the best lunch I have ever eaten!
An amazing dining experience. flavours, textures and the whole experience was superb.
Amazing venue amazing staff, will be going back for sure
Special restaurant, what a gem. The food is inspired. I really appreciate the lunch set menu, it makes fine dining accessible. Going here makes me feel spoilt.
I ve just dined here for the first time with my family and we were all blown away with how fabulous it was- the service was first class, food from the tasting menu was a masterpiece, the setting was beautiful and staff were an absolute delight. We are very hard to please as a family but each one of us said it was the best meal we ve had in years and we couldn t find one criticism between us. Highly recommended for a lucullan repast!
Outstanding. Great menu, outstanding service and fantastic food. Recommend highly if youre looking for something special. Weve been underwhelmed in the past few months by the pretenders; the restaurants that promise but dont deliver. It was so lovely to get the real deal at The Chubby Castor.
great food and service
Gorgeous food, amazing service, fantastic Chef
We had a fabulous dinner on Friday night, the team catered for 10 people superbly from booking and changing numbers to catering for dietary needs. I couldnt recommend the Chubby Castor more!
Breads and starters really good. Sunday main was a bit lacking though, veg selection good, but not much meat and was overdone, despite asking for medium. Dessert was the poorest course. Sticky toffee pudding sponge was overdone to the point of having a burnt taste, was dry and lacked flavour.
Way expensive for both wine & food. Totally misled over vegan menu which its not, surly waiting staff? Maitre d. Sadly not all its cracked up to be.
Absolutely first class. This is fine dining at its best. Admittedly the portions are small and the prices very high but the food and experience was outstanding. We were COVID cautious but this was not a problem we were seated next to an open door and looked after very well.
Fantastic meal, great service, worth driving 11/2hours for such a special meal
We had booked this place for 4 adults and 2 kids for Father s Day and grandads birthday a month in advance. The moment we stepped in we were given terrible look and service. We were told they had made a mistake and there was no table reserved for us outside and would only offer us small tiny table for 6 of us and want offer to merge tables together so our family can sit together. The manager there was speaking to us in a way that we don t understand English and won t accommodate any flexibility to have us there. It was like they wanted us to leave the moment we got there. Sadly we had to leave the place with two hungry kids and spoilt our fathers day and grandads birthday. I m shocked and surprised such upscale restaurant can be treat us in such a way. I m very disappointed and would not recommend this place to anyone we felt we treated differently.
We did not know this was so nearby, the service was impeccable, we had the tasting menu and the food was brilliant. The selection of wines was great and made it hard to choose but the staff were really knowledgable and helped select the perfect bottle.
Didn t actually go in as working outside in the street. But staff are friendly and asking what we are doing (building fibre optic network for Openreach) looks a great place from the outside.
Absolutely amazing food! Great price, great staff, great tasting menu! Highly recommended!
Nice restaurant decor. Pleasant welcome. Front of house amateur at best given the £70 per person food. Wine kept by service, fine but if front of house all suddenly vanish and customers are walking to get their own wine - not in keeping with what the owners are trying to achieve. Better to leave with table. Food was good, not to £70 per head standard but the chef clearly is talented. From customer view be better to take it back a notch and focus on solid high quality restaurant without Amuse-bouche touches and deliver great experience. Too much ego and not enough substance.
A fine dining experience without having to travel to London. We enjoyed every mouthful and the chef cooked my duck just the way I like it. The photos dont do the food justice.
Took my Mum here for dinner and it was great. The service was quick and the food was delicious as always. Great pub lunch!
Another excellent meal, with some very nice wine. Staff are good fun too
We went here for our anniversary and had an absolutely outstanding time. The staff were excellent and just the right level of attentive. The food was incredible and the pacing of the courses was well done. I would definitely recommend the Chubby Castor for special occasions.
Best restaurant in town! Amazing food and atmosphere, plus service!
Excellent food, with great service.
We went in for our anniversary and had the tasting menu for lunch the food was lovely and I wouldnt hesitate going back. thank you to all at the chubby Caster for a great experience
Wonderful fine dining experience!
Nice place with soft music and clean interior. Food was well made and flavoured. Service received was as expected form place like this. Overall pleasant experience and will visit again.
Fantastic experience, service was impeccable and perfectly timed. Quality of both dishes and drinks was a delight. From greeting to leaving, we were taken care of by the ever attentive staff with likes and dislikes catered for with no strain. Staff are a credit to this restaurant with care and attention to detail, all whilst doing everything to make your meal as special as possible.
Very elegant food from a chef worth following.
Really well thought out food - you could taste and savour each flavour.
Fabulous meal
visited today prior to going to a matinee concert. From the start I was very impressed with the greeting and the service. the venue is absolutely beautiful and very well presented. loved the choices on the menu. Amuse boucle was a delicious very well flavoured cod and salmon dish. For the starter I had a perfectly cooked scallop with garnish and a beautiful dressing. My main was my all time favourite meat. pigeon cooked exactly as it should be. I am not a fan of gravy or jus, but today I had seconds of the jus. Chef tells me it takes two days to prepare, I am not surprised as the depth of flavour was extraordinary. dessert was a chocolate dessert as per the menu, go look it up. The sommelier made me a non alcoholic cocktail which suited me perfectly. he designed it around my request. Toilets very clean and well presented. was it worth the 206 mile round trip? YES YES YES! After 1400+ reviews on trip advisor plus good food guide and Hardens, I am in no doubt this venue deserves a michelin star.
Lovely food, awesome atmosphere
I have just eaten the most delicious meal here. The combination of flavours and textures was superb and each dish complemented the next. The staff were friendly and attentive but also let us savour our food without rushing us. The whole experience made for a very memorable evening and I cant wait to eat there again.
Fantastic food. Exceptional service. If you are looking for something a little bit special, something different than the norm and want somewhere to celebrate then highly recommended
What a place. Visit, enjoy and then book again. Expensive but if you enjoy good food with staff who care and are informative about what they are serving then you wont be put off. Its a gem
Food and service was excellent.
Outstanding
We really were looking forward to this.. great reviews good ratings .. we booked our table for 5:30pm we arrived at 5:15 the door was locked, a member of staff opened the door popped their head out and told us they don t open until 5:30 and we would have to wait outside!! If you don t open until 5:30 why take bookings for 5:30 as it s common place for ppl to be 10/15 mins early??!! Not the sort of reception we were expecting sadly. Very disappointing
Resturants asks for feedback during every course but doesnt respond well to people honest opinions. My starter lacked depth and the lobster was under cooked. Front of staff advised me two members of their staff tasted the dish and it was ok, basically insinuating my opinion was incorrect. Expensive resturant staff need more customers experience training. Would not recommend .
Wonderful food in a lovely setting. Fantastic service and wine. Highly recommend
Absolutely excellent, anniversary Sunday lunch with family. Lovely food, service, decor, cant fault at all.
Excellent food and staff been twice will come again, when I can afford it!
Amazing food with brilliant service
Food & wine exquisite
Well this place is out of this world in the class of food set in a lovely old building great
I had the vegan menu and it was unlike anything I have tried before.
Arrived with a baby in a push chair, no issues as they fully accommodated us. Food was great and the staff very helpful
Good food and service
Beautiful place with amazing staff members. Friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely exquisite. Yes the price is high, but fine dining comes at a cost and it s worth every penny. Would definitely recommend. We were given complimentary home made breads, then a lovely apple mousse with onion and red peppers. And before dessert we also got a complimentary cinnamon donut with a passion fruit filling. Chefs are clearly very talented, thank you for a wonderful meal
A very pleasant dining experience at lunchtime. Food was delicious and nicely presented. I particularly enjoyed the crab starter and the dessert was almost too pretty to eat. Service is competent. Will be returning again.
Absolutely beautiful
Wow, fantastic, great celebration with my wife, food and staff were superb, definitely returning before we leave the area... The Scallops are amazing...
Amazing food and service. A must visit place to eat.
Very nice Afternoon Tea, especially the little shot. The lemon foam was spot on. Thank you.
Incredible food, wonderfully attentive and knowledgeable staff. Came for the tasting menu which was delicious, could not fault it. Will be returning!
Had a very pleasant Afternoon Tea in lovely surroundings.
Delicious! Enjoyed an excellent three course meal for Sunday lunch. The warm fresh bread, presentation of all the courses was excellent. Atmosphere warm and friendly. Attentive staff. I enjoyed lamb starter - Outstanding. Husband enjoyed cauliflower starter. The cod for main was again outstanding but a bit on the small side. Pork was good. Apple crumble delicious with lovely pastry. Definitely treating ourselves here again. Very decently priced £34 three courses with beverages on top. Oh must forget the gorgeous appetisers between courses.
Probably some of the most exquisite foods I have tasted to date. Without a doubt we shall be returning.
Incredible food, very professional service, very good value for a fine dining experience.
Booked for a special occasion and travelled there only to be told our booking had been cancelled. Disappointed to say the least. Surprised at the terrible attitude of the lady we spoke to, especially considering the restaurant refers to itself as civilised dining. There was no will or want to help rectify the situation. Cant comment on the food (reviews suggest it is excellent), but would I recommend spending £80 per head plus drinks on somewhere with appaling customer care? No.
WOW!! I have to say we were blown away by the food here last weekend, the food is cooked to a standard so high that i dont think any other restaurant in Peterborough could beat, in fact the food is probably one of the best meals i have had in my life! I had the scallop and the steak and my plate was clean, we didnt have time for desert with the new covid curfew but we liked it that much we are back next weekend! The staff were very polite and the chef even came out to talk to us after the meal which was a nice touch. We have a garlic allergy and most restaurants that cook with nothing but garlic would just say they can just make something plain but NO NO Chubbys had the whole menu available garlic free as it is so freshly made!! I would highley recommend. Leonie and Colin Bacon
Nice food but super high price.
It was such an amazing experience would definitely go again
Food and service first rate. Not cheap but good value for money and most enjoyable.
A must
Great tasty food and lovely ambient
Great food and service.
What an amazing place, staff and food cant rate this place enough its a defiant must go restaurant loved it xx
Service Brilliant and food was so gud
Excellent food
Hands down my favourite gaff round here. You get what you pay for and its worth it.
Gorgeous setting. Fantastic food, staff and service.
Everything was just perfect, the food, atmosphere, staff, beautiful cutlery, china & linen. Easy parking & disabled friendly (other than two very shallow steps into restaurant) would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful period thatched roof restaurant.
The best non-starred Michelin restaurant I have eaten in. Deserves a Michelin star. Visiting my son and his wife in Thorney and staying for the weekend I wanted to find somewhere nice to eat - to save two working people from having to feed my wife and I and also to celebrate 2 birthdays. Peterborough and surrounds is not well served for good eateries ( Prebus a possible) and we have often gone to Stamford for dinner. So I Googled best restaurants in Peterborough and up came The Chubby at Castor. Reviews looked OK(plus some not so good) but the menu and wine list looked OK so did the very professional website. So booked for 4 Fri 28 June 19. Lovely village, good parkin, courteous reception. All front of house/waitng staff smartly attired in House uniform. No rush, no fuss. Time to have aperitifs, select food and wines - a relaxing environment. Food choices included Crab, Halibut and the best Tournedos Rossini my wife had eaten. Wines and Champagne by the glass were good. Very good puds and cheeseboard. Not the cheapest but the food and service were certainly worth it. We would love to go regularly but as home is in Somerset this would be a real trek! We have a Michelin starred restaurant locally and The Chubby at Castor on our visit is on a par.
Really good food, a little too much flavour in one dish, particularly the hake. Dont get me wrong, it was beautifully done, nice moist fish, but too many flavours that ended up swamping the fish itself. But really worth a visit as the food is far above your typical restaurant in the area. Attentive and friendly service. Overall positives: Service, food quality and presentation. Could do better: Atmosphere a bit flat. Needs a bit of theatre in the outside dining experience.
Brilliant as usual and very expensive but what do you expect for this level of quality? Thanks Adi and team!!!
Beautiful, friendly and fantastic food
V friendly staff
The afternoon tea was lovely .
Fantastic meal as always. Should be busier as food is excellent. Service was also great.
Great food, great staff and a chilled relaxing atmosphere
Excellent food, great service
Good fireworks
Excellent food and excellent service.
Very good food and service.
Sunday lunch - too expensive. Had high expectations especially as the chef-patron has a reputation and because of the prices. Sadly we were all disappointed. Whilst the food was good with no real complaints we were expecting a much higher standard for the cost. The quality is easily met by other pubs in the locality for about half the price. The waiting staff were also average but I suppose as the restaurant had only been open a couple of week they may improve. Definitely won t be back for Sunday lunch but may try again for dinner.
Ive now been to the Chubby Castor twice. Ive had meals from the à la carte menu and the mothers day special menu. Ive been during the day and on a busy Friday evening. Both experiences were brilliant, we all had a wonderful time. The food was brilliant and the service faultless. I would highly recommend!
Amazing service and the Sunday lunch was one of the best weve had in a very long time! Maybe the prices are slightly high, but on balance I think youre getting what you pay for.
Very good dinner service much improved lovely atmosphere really enjoyed it thank you
Excellent service, great food. Would recommend wholeheartedly.
Had a lovely anniversary lunch, the food was excellent and the service was great. Definitely be returning.
Fantastic meal and service
Incredibly disappointed despite having high hopes. Where do I begin? Raw sweetbreads and a £32 steak that was the size of an espresso saucer and far from special. £11 for a G&T, which exceeds London prices - seriously? Average food, inattentive staff and a chef who doesnt seem to care if his customers are happy or not.
Had the 3 course set menu for lunch yesterday. Absolutely amazing food and impeccable service - little bit pricey but completely worth it! I will definitely be going there again, and telling all my friends and family about it! Thanks so much for a lovely meal.
Lovely meal last week and impeccable service. A real find and will visit again
Really accommodating staff. Friendly feel.
Great food, relaxed atmosphere well worth a visit.
Excellent experience. Service and meal very good. Highly recommended.
Lovely food. Great service
Fantastic place, delicious food, the set menus can be the perfect choice. A little pricey but very good service and friendly staff
Lovely meal with my wife, great service and quite relaxed environment for fine dining. All three courses hit the mark in particular the monk-fish - one of the better dining experiences Ive had in the Peterborough area.
The best
A great place to eat.
Fantastic meal very good service can highly recommend
Had high expectations but was sadly disappointed.
