"A culinary trip through Mexico's cuisine" We are very proud of our Mexican Heritage and are delighted to have the chance to share it with you. Our authentic Mexican dishes are made from family recipes, also made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Brunch, lunch or dinner!
The food is consistently good. I have been here a couple times when we visit the area. A bit on the salty side and lacking in veg options. Most things are gluten-free which is important for myself due to celiac disease. We find it on the pricey side in comparison to other Mexican or Latin eateries. Service is always fantastic, and they have a nice patio.
Amazing meal tonight. So much food. Loved the margaritas. Sat outside on the patio. Highly recommend this little gem Sorry forgot to take pictures of our tacos. But they were delicious
The most amazing Mexican restaurant! Lovely owners and delicious food. Fast service, good prices as well.
The Most Authentic Mexican Food I've ever had in my life. I love the home atmosphere La Hacienda is. It's like I'm in a Mexican Household where they make the most authentic Mexican Cuisine. I absolutely love that. The pork was so juicy, cooked perfectly. It was perfectly salty. Mixing it with the Guacamole was perfect. Rice perfect as well. Love the presentation & the interior design.
Really great food. I don't live locally but when I visit this town this is where I want to eat. It's my favorite. That soup was fantastic!! I had a virgin margarita and I really loved it. Everyone was happy with what they ordered. The chips and cells are really good too.
Amazing service, beautiful patio and fresh tasting authentic Mexican cuisine! So fortunate to have a great restaurant in our Downtown Core that offers a variety of Mexican dishes from salsa or guacamole and chips, tacos, soups or salads, alcoholic beverages and desserts! I have always had an enjoyable time at this location. Sandra and her staff are attentive and a pleasure to speak with. Enjoy! Update: I enjoyed Taco Tuesday with a side of margaritas and it did not disappoint! Truly delicious! Update: Went to the Dragon Boat Festival and La Hacienda was there so I purchased birria tacos, guac and chips plus chips for home! Proceeds went to the fundraiser!
On a long road trip and stopped in for dinner. We were looking for somewhere with vegan options for one family member, but also food everyone would enjoy. There were lots of choices for everyone. The food was authentic and delicious. Our server was very good - she happily fixed a slight problem with the order. Definitely worth a visit.
La Havienda in Peterborough is a great place with nice decor. It’s charming and a great place to go for tacos. Staff are friendly. This place has so many gluten free options that it’s definitely worth going again. Tacos are delicious and the enchiladas are also good. The complimentary chips and salsa is great and having Dos Sequis beer on top is great. They have vegetarian and vegan options as well. The place is clean and welcoming. So why 4 stars? I’ve been to a lot of Mexican restaurants and this one is not near the top. The fish tacos are lack lustre. They should use basa fish at least or cod. The batter isn’t great and the portion size is small. It’s tilapia - the worst one you can use. I also found the service to be average. Despite it not being busy we didn’t get the service you get at other places. There was only two people working on a Friday which maybe the reason. I’ll definitely head back. The pulled pork (carnitas) is the best option. The steak is tough and over cooked. I’m not sure what cut they are using but flank should be the go to and make it rare.
100% Authentic, like being at home. Thank you! I will visit them again when I return to Peterborough.
Great food!
Came in with my wife for my anniversary. Seemed like a pretty disorganized operation in there, I saw the servers grabbing the chips with their bare hands which is totally disgusting
We went in there, got seated, and then got ignored by the server for 45minutes. Didn t give us our menu, didn t give us any water, didn t clear the table from the pervious people who were sitting there. He kept looking at us and looking away. We eventually left, so disappointing.
Everything tasted so fresh and homemade. The mojitos were amazing too! I love coming here for lunch, especially when the patio is open..such a friendly place.
The food was amazing and the server s were really nice. Definitely try and visit this place.
Really hot, needs AC asap. Nachos were great, enchiladas were okay. They seemed to be topped with carrots rather than cheese? Not sure what was happening there. Very overpriced. Cute interior. Horrible parking, which is not their fault at all but something to be prepared for.
Been coming here for 5 years now and havent been in over 8 months. Service was aweful!!! Got seated, asked server about what was in the burrito and he never got back to me. Had 3 different people serving out table. Didnt even get to enjoy a little bit of wine with appetizer (bowl of salsa but no chips and had to ask for those as well).as our food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering (and thats questionable in itself). Food was luke warm. Never had any of the servers cime back to ask or to see how everything was. Such a disappointment from what it use to be. Shame on you. Oh, and to top it off. Check your bill as we were charged for a wine we didnt order. Ordered 9 oz pinto but was charged for a more expensive sav blanc. Oh and owner, a good restaurant does tasters, as it seemed no one there knew their wines, just some fancy drinks and beer.
Friendly staff, very authentic, beautiful restaurant, amazing staff if I could give them 100 stars I would. Best service I ve had in a long time. Amazing restaurant
This has been a staple for me and my friends for a few years now, it just never misses. The atmosphere, amazing welcoming staff, and the food is quite literally the best in town. The meat is flavourful and tender on every bite, salsa and guac are fresh and made in house along with fresh chips they also make in store, you can t go wrong. Lots of authentic variety on the menu, I ve never had anything that hasn t been 10/10 here.
I love everything about this place, the food is fresh and delicious, drinks are phenomenal - I love the mango margarita with a salt rim, and almost any dish can be made vegetarian or vegan if thats your flow. Ive been here several times, and the service is unmatched, 10/10 recommend.
Great experience. La Hacienda-Mexican Restourant. Great Dine in deliusas food. I Recomand this place for the type of food they serve.
Wonderful hidden gem. Have been here 3 or 4 times in the past 6 months. Always recommend it to friends. Delicious authentic cuisine and very friendly staff!!
My favorite food and place to dine out! Always a nice experience.
I was greeted warmly and seated promptly. The menus were covered in price adjustment stickers and sticky. The salsa and tortillas is clearly store bought, but the meat filling was tasty. If they focused on making all their food in-house and raised the cleanliness bar, then it would be a 5 star from me.
Delicious food, perfectly seasoned. Lots of wonderful choices on the menu for everyone!
Had a disappointing experience here after coming here lunch. Entrees are $30 each but the experience definitely is not. One of our two forks has a crusted piece of rice stuck between the tines. The salsa and chips were excellent and come free with your order, however the spoon that was in the salsa had a streak of dried guacamole on it. Clearly their cutlery is not being cleaned properly. Their table water had a bad taste to it. The bathroom paper towel dispenser was empty and not dispensing paper towels. Each small individual taco is around $9 (overpriced). I ordered a Campechano taco which has steak and chorizo in it. The steak was cold (and clearly not reheated properly) while the chorizo tasted off (meat was going bad). They offer a cricket taco which I was happy about as it s a great alternative source of protein that is more environmentally friendly. We also ordered the Pescado Jalisciense which was the highlight of the meal. They have a nice patio too.
Enjoyed a well prepared dinner with excellent service, I would highly recommend this restaurant
A lovely restaurant with a charming atmosphere, we try to go whenever were in town because the food is great! Really appreciate the good and well labeled gluten free menu. Everything was delicious! Enchiladas were probably my favourite this time. Kid-friendliness: My 5 year old enjoyed the food. I didnt see high chairs and the bathroom wasnt really baby friendly but it was spacious. They had recommendations for menu items for kids and were willing to adjust spice.
Food is decent, but It is certainly not worth waiting 3 hours for. The surly waitress that acted like it was an inconvenience to sell us more beverages was unnecessary. You have two options for seating. Sweat it out inside, or sit outside and be ignored. I have tried this restaurant 3 times and all experiences were the same. It s too bad, because at the end of the night when your food finally arrives it s very authentic and good.
Some of the best authentic Mexican I ve had in quite some time. Excellent service and overall wonderful experience. Will be frequenting any time I m in Peterborough!
Fresh, delicious, great service Vegetarian options: Lots of choice, vegan options too
Wonderful restaurant! Kind servers. Atmosphere was warm and inviting. Food amazing! I requested no onion, apologized for being difficult. Our server was so nice, and waved it off.
First time there, will definitely go back. Great food as authentic as you can get north of the second border
The best Mexican restaurant i ve ever been to. Truly delicious food with warm friendly staff. The ingredients are very fresh, salsa to die for. Don t hesitate, you won t regret it.
Amazing Mexican food! Good if you are celiac or gluten-free
Great place..so enjoyed my lunch..looking forward to going back.
Made a reservation Arrived and it wasn t busy so they didn t ask about my reservation just said sit anywhere. Food was bland and the pitcher of sangria we ordered tasted like extremely watered down kool aid probably the worst I ve ever had anywhere. Waitress didn t question why I had one bite of my food and left it or why we left 2/3 or pitcher of sangria. They couldn t care less they were busy chatting behind the bar. Would not go back
We felt the prices did not very well reflect the taste or portion sizes of the food. Nothing was bad at all, but nothing was really great either, except the waitress and the plating. My enchiladas were beautifully plated.
It would be impossible to go wrong with any of their tacos. Margaritas too. Amazing food, friendly staff. Peterborough is lucky to have a restaurant like this.
This place is amazing! Everything about it. Food and the ladies working in there are amazing.
As a Peterborough local and self proclaimed Mexican food enthusiast I cannot recommend this restaurant more, by far the best Mexican food I ve ever had in my life yet alone in Peterborough. The food is delicious and has soul. The owner Sandra has really perfected her families recipes and has captured a true essence of Mexico in her cooking and atmosphere inside the restaurant. I recommend the soups as well as the tinga de pollo! Don t miss out, anyone passing through Peterborough needs to visit! Parking: Parking lot located right next to the restaurant as well as free + paid street parking nearby within walking distance! Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs! Easy to get in and out. Patio is open during summer which may make access even easier!
We had dinner for my wifes Birthday last night. Weve always enjoyed the food here. Soup and enchiladas were great and they had Topo chico. Dietary restrictions: They had plenty of gluten free and vegetarian options.
Incredible food for a reasonable price in a welcoming environment. I will certainly be going back. This is authentic Mexican food.
We absolutely love this restaurant! Food is delicious, service is great and atmosphere is spot on. So when we go there for dinner on a Tuesday at 8:00pm (they close at 9) we were told the kitchen was closed !!! And we drove from out of town!!! Not cool people.
Excellent. Best Mexican meal we have had in years. Lots of gf options.
Went down hill This was the best Mexican around but now with the mama gone its just trash. Its not the same at all. Im so sad about it. It was fantastic. The atmosphere has even changed. I wish I would have gone more often!!! Covid changed a lot of good things. And the menu and this restaurant is definitely one of them. I was willing to give the a shot upon my much disappointment arrival post covid. And was more disappointed all around the longer I was there.. Its NOT THE SAME as it used to be.. #devastated. The mama made these delicious hot sauses omg they were so flavorful and spicy. To die for!!! Never had such amazing home made sauses at any restaurant as this mama HAD. Mexican is my favorite. And this restaurant was so flipping ahhhhhhhhmazing.. Now. Its just flat. No possess no flare no atmosphere I cant believe they changed the atmosphere in there. that was so devastating to see. Super sad and upset at this loss..
The enchiladas here are delicious, and the salsa and chips to start are the best I ve ever had. I recommend eating here as the staff are lovely and ensure good service!
An amazing authentic Mexican lunch with Sopa Azteca and burritos with delicious hot sauce and some margaritas!
Good food and great atmosphere!
Dinner and the atmosphere were fantastic. I dont recommend the flan Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Food : 4/5 |
So disappointing! I ordered three Taco Feast kits for a birthday celebration. First of all the tortilla s were freezer burned, dry and crumbled when we tried to make our tacos. The chicken and pork were kinda flavourless, the vegan option was mushrooms in tomato sauce (also flavorless). No sour cream included. The salsa was good. Hard to believe the food is authentic from old family recipes. We ordered enough food so everyone could eat lots but we didn t make it through half. Once everyone had one taco they refused more. We all agreed that the food wasn t even mediocre. The staff person was nice when I picked it up. Won t be getting food there again.
Had a pleasant meal here with my mom and wife. We made a reservation and were given a table near the entrance which wasnt great because everytime someone came in and out we got a cold blast of air. Two of us ordered enchiladas and one order fajitas. All the food was excellent. The lime coconut margarita was amazing! . All in all a good meal, we were checked on only once but it was busy in there. Everyone was smiling and we definitely enjoyed our meal. Was 150.00 including tip for 3 of us. We all had a margarita as well. We will be back for sure. Parking: Free street parking on weekends all over the place. Many paid lots around too.
Always fantastic! Weve never had a bad meal. The Best Mexican Restaurant in Peterborough!
Friendly service and great atmosphere. Lots of vegan options and staff was very knowledgeable!
A cute little super colorful restaurant that surely makes you feel like you are in Mexico. We came very hungry and the food was wholesome and delicious and very filling. Really nice experience. Food
Another great meal...in for lunch this time. Get the hot sauce!!! Made fresh on site.
Very rich! One of the best Ive tried
We have been coming here for years. It is excellent. The service, today was Chey, is phenomenal. He brought over items; extra hot sauce, refill coffee, etc. on his own before we even thought to ask for them. Amazing server!!! Excellent food, awesome atmosphere! If you have not experienced La Hacienda, you need to. Weve been to Mexican restaurants in the past that arent... this is the real deal. I love the Enchiladas Mole.
I came in with my father and my friend over the winter holidays. There were only two other tables of two when we first walked in, yet we waited over one hour for our food. It turned out the waitress hadn t sent the order to the kitchen (she told us). When the food finally did arrive, mine and my friends dishes were soggy and hers had onion in it, despite her asking for just chicken and cheese. My margarita also tasted only like sugar and lime juice. The waitress charged us full price for the whole meal, without even offering dessert or to take the margarita off the bill. The whole thing came to over 100$ So it would ve been nice to have at least have the situation acknowledged.
Best Mexican food in town in my opinion! And they speak Spanish which helps a lot when I go with family that doesnt speak English very well.
We took our friends here tonight, and it was probably the worst service we have ever had. We sat down at 6:30pm. We received our drinks at 7pm. We received our appetizers (soups) at 7:30pm. We received our main dishes at 8:00pm but we had to sit there looking at our food for approximately 5min while they went to grab us some cutlery. My enchiladas were soaked in salsa roja and by the time I ate one of the tortillas, they were completely soggy. I sent it back and got them to make me some dorados. While I waited for the dorados, the server tells me that she put the churros in a while back and they were ready if I wanted them. I replied, I havent even had my main dish yet. She gets my dorados, and they had refried beans just in the middle - the sides were empty. The churros came out next - and they were completely dry and cold. Needless to say, we apologized to our friends for recommending this restaurant. Quite disappointing.
We had the enchiladas and the beria tocos. Okay when I say some of the best Mexican food I ve ever had I mean in. Very cool place, even better food. Authentic.
Food was not very good, disappointing, considering it seemed to have good reviews as well as the most number of reviews. Service was okay. We managed to get the one and only non-reseved table. So if u do want to try the restaurant, call and check ahead of time and reserve as they dont have a lot of tables.
Food was good. Some things were a bit pricey, Like the guacamole for an ap 16$. They could have used another server, poor girl was running off her feet . They were also out of beef and our reservation was for 5pm... I remember it being a bit better when I was there a couple years ago. Still was a good experience though.
It was great! Good food, good service, we found it to be overpriced, a meal for two with tip: $100.00!
Really nice spot, a staple! Excellent and authentic.
As always, food was great! Made reservation which was definately needed, even just for 2 people. Cant wait for our next visit!
The food was absolutely incredible!!!! Definitely recommend to try this place out!
ordered 85$ worth of food to be served the following day, as a takeout order. i asked it to be all in seperate containers and gave a 15% tip. i recieved the opposite and when i realized i mentioned it to them and was told if i microwave the chips they would not be wet and salgy anymore. i knew this wasnt true but accepted it sadly. turns out there is no way to revive a salgy tortila chip besides frying it again and creating an overcooked chip. too bad the chips were all, already overcooked to begin with. im only so upset because it was so expensive and im not super rich, and ive been going there ordering the same thing almost everyday for about a week.. its really not a big deal i guesx im just upset that such a perfect day was ruined .. life isnt all about me though .. who knows how their day could have been going... maybe i should smile less. it probably freaks some people out. moral if the story i just wasted 85$ on two orders of salgy nachos that will go to waste... i just wish they at least tried to replace the chips.. and the meat/cheese that is almost impossible to seperate for my lactose intolerant guests tomorrow.
Amazingly tasty food Authentic Authentic Authentic Mexican I had after ages .keep up the good work guys
Great food, great service, awesome margaritas!
Without a doubt, the food is delicious, the staff is very friendly and is interested in serving you effectively. The meat al pastor is delicious, it tastes very similar to México . It is a very clean place and they serve you quickly.
Fun and busy place. Food was good, service was friendly. Decor is getting a little tired and it was cold in the winter if you are sat anywhere near the door
Excellent food and service, authentic Mexican cuisine. The only thing is that its a bit dark.
Quaint little place. Food was amazing. Limited table space so make a reservation. Make sure you end your dinner with the churros. Very nice.
Small place but.... Had the pleasure to try Mexican Coca-Cola and the food was fabulous Dietary restrictions: Good options if you have Celiac disease
Had a wonderful time for dinner. Our server was very nice and was very respectful. We started with appetizers- doratos, chips and salsa, guacamole, and pico de Gallo. I ordered the Tostadas de Tinga and it was delicious. Their salsa Verde was amazing as well. Flan was good too, sadly they were out of churros. Would come back when in town again. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Dairy free Vegan
Awesome Mexican food here. Very nice and friendly people too. I keep coming to this restaurant over and over again.
sandra is great and so is her food
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free and it really was. Food
I had the Molcajete with Chuletas en Salsa Verde, it was amazing!
Very authentic food. This place has so much soul and happiness to offer a great experience.
The chips and salsa was the highlight unfortunately. We were the only people in the restaurant and the service wasnt there. We were never asked of everything was tasty or not. The only good thing about the food was the presentation other wise food was tasteless. Very bland no spice whatsoever. Another horrible thing was they put feta on too of the refried beans 2 things that do not belong together. Definitely wont be coming back.
Very fresh. Very flavorful. Food came fast. Staff was nice.
Excellent service. The food is authentic mexican style. The place is well decorated.
3 of us enjoyed our lunch, it wasnt very busy so service was prompt and our server was friendly and attentive. The tostados with tinga chicken was very tasty. They have a lunch special. We had the sopa de Azteca which was beautiful, the broth was a little light in flavour but we broke up the tortillaand avocado added some house made hot sauce and it was wonderful. Their burritos were very good and the right size for a lunch.
Nice food! Busy place. Family friendly. Kid-friendliness: Great for kids. Lots of options Food : 5/5 |
Food was great! Waitresses were very friendly and did a amazing job! Will definitely visit again ... Food : 5/5
What a great experience. Service was great. Restaurant is small, it was 50% full when I went and the food arrived quickly. It was delicious and a great portion size (i had to take some home)
Delicious. the nachos, the burrito and the tacos were all fantastic.
Had a wonderful lunch. Fantastic customer service and cozy Mexican vibe. Would recommend anyone stop by for wonderful food. Take home tortilla chips made in house are fantastic.
Food came out cold, likely due to being critically understaffed. The entire indoor dining area was full and left to one server (or the overconfident owner saving money on labour?). Arrived to find she had no recollection of our reservation made hours earlier, and grateful we managed to be seated wherever before the place filled up. Enchiladas were presented well enough but only moderately spiced and the fajitas were extremely overpriced, we re not even close to sizzling as one would imagine, and looked very cheap. Second time was the last time, gave it a fair shot. 2 stars for authenticity.
We dined in for dinner over the May long weekend. The food was cold and lacking in flavour and the server was terribly overworked. Expensive as well, given the disappointment.
Patio dining here for a little Mexican lunch. It was delish We had: Chips & Salsa Quesadillas (tinga & cheese) Tacos al Pastor Tacos Suaves (tinga)
Good food, excellent service.
It was a real cozy little place. It hit the spot for a quick bite to eat on my road trip. The service was good and the food was too. They also offer coffee and some merchandise to buy. It was a bit confusing to find the place with the GPS but we were lucky that a passing buy gentleman knew where it was located.
15 minutes to get a menu and 30 minutes later our order still hadn t been taken. Would have loved to try but probably won t be back.
Food is good but the service is slow. Last time I was here , I had to leave as we were sitting waiting for service which did not come. Not friendly/fast service here. I think they need to hire more people.. but good food thou.
Great Mexican food! We had our Father s Day dinner at La Hacienda and really enjoyed the deck/patio which has tables in the shade away from the road. Very authentic food. Recommend the enchiladas de mole which is a great vegan, gluten free option. The presentation of the food was excellent.
Best Mexican restaurant I think Ive been to in Canada
Omg cannot say enough about this place. Food was incredibly delicious.
Our waitress was super sweet! And our food was delicious can t wait to come back!
Delicious authentic Mexican food
Caesar fest brought us here. Will be back for sure. Thanks
Went on a weekend for my bday late last year. Proteins were totally bricked. Chicken and shrimps (tiny) were super dry.
Wonderful food.
Decided to eat inside even though the patio was open. Next time, I would eat on the patio as it was probably cooler outside. The good- nachos and margarita were great. The need improvement- wait staff and kitchen was either overwhelmed or slower then most other Mexican restaurants.
The manager was pretty rude and during rush hour she ignored us completely only to go and serve tables that came after us. Dont know the reason why but it is not acceptable
During my several visits to the restaurant, I generally had decent service and enjoyed the food. However, my recent experience on July 25 was quite disappointing. My friend and I were seated on the patio, but no one attended to us for a whole 15 minutes. After finally getting the menu, we had to endure an uncomfortable 25-minute wait for someone to take our orders. The server or manager seemed to be attentive to all the other tables except ours. Even two groups seated after us received their drinks and food before we even had our orders taken. What made the situation more disheartening was the feeling that we were being singled out due to being South Asian, especially as the majority of other guests were Caucasian. Surprisingly, the manager/server themself was a person of color, which made the treatment even more disappointing. As my friend and I were leaving, the manager/server saw us but they had no regards whatsoever and simply walked past us to another table. As my favorite place for Mexican food in town, this experience shook me, as it was the first time I encountered such treatment. While I understand that the place might have been busier than usual and understaffed, it doesnt justify the neglect of just our table. I hope the restaurant can address such issues to increase staff and ensure a welcoming environment for all customers.
Amazing food, loved the tacos
Nice patio dining experience
The atmosphere on the patio here is lovely and it s in a great location. I tried the cricket taco which was pretty interesting. The service was extremely slow, we sat at our table for 15 min before anyone came over to ask about drinks or give us a menu. After we finally got taken care of the servers were friendly and helpful but definitely very slow.
Excellent restaurant, a hidden gem! Birria quesadillas were amazing. Most definitely recommended.
Absolutely love the Sopa Azteca. Fav on the menu. Nice casual Mexican atmosphere. Really love this restaurant and staff are friendly and accommodating.
Best authentic Mexican restaurant in Peterborough! Food and service is always great.
Not like it use to be. My chicken was burned and the refried Dean had no flavor. Also way too expensive
Far from the best Mexican food weve tried, even in Ontario. The pickled cactus in solo taco overpowers the palette, the Aztec soup is too bland; however, pollo con moles rojo sauce was good. The tables are not cleaned between the visitors, the washrooms are out of soap. Still, the tables outside are located nicely and the waiter was polite and attentive. Between the bland tasting experience and the price point, wont be coming back but the atmosphere is cozy due to the location.
I ordered the Birria tacos. They were amazing. And the service was incredible!. Will definitely come back soon!
The lady there is nice but got my order wrong gave me an extra co chinita. Not sure if they missed out on the crispy specification we made but the wraps were all soft and rolled. We had a Piccadillo and co chinita. Very dry and not worth the price
Arrived at 6:15, left at 7:30 without having received food. No communication that there would be a delay. When water was brought, we were told the food was on the way out it wasn t. Sincerely, Disappointed. Service
Dietary restrictions: Yummy gluten-free options! Food
Food could have been better. Mostly every dish was bland.
First time there. LOVED EVERYTHING!
Not a bad spot. Had the chicken nachos. They were fairly standard nachos. The salsa was fresh and good though. Tried to order the taco platter but was told it was only available for a takeout order. That was unfortunate for sure as a single taco was $8. We sat ourselves, table was a bit dirty and it took 20 minutes to place a drink order....it wasnt busy. Overall ok, not the best, not the worst. If youre in the area perhaps your experience will be better than ours was.
What an amazing, traditional Mexican food experience at reasonable prices with great service.
Great authentic Mexican restaurant. Nothing Americanized as far as I could tell. The mole sauce is excellent and so is their salsa and refried beans.
delicious authentic mexican entrees and drinks! I loooove it here, I want to try everything on the menu!!
Genuinely good, authentic Mexican food.
I have been coming here for over 10 years, and never had a bad experience. One of my favourite restaurants! I usually come for lunch when in town, it has a chill atmosphere. The food always tastes fresh and satisfying. As as vegetarian they have always been accommodating too, I usually have cactus or beans. Usually I go for sopes but recently tried the sopa azteca and it was so good!
Cozy and nice Truly Mexican food
Great tasting Mexican food and Margaritas. Friendly, helpful service.
Great meal, service, and ambience. Lovely patio as well. Dietary restrictions: Vegan, diary-free, and no shellfish.
Always delicious!
Unfortunately, we ate on patio - food was good - but a man sat on a chair by the door , but on the patio with the diners , smoking a cigarette and smoke was blowing in all our faces. They advised him he had to leave but did nothing when he didnt. I will not return
The tortilla soup was amazing. I might go back this weekend again for some.
Wonderful dishes, and there is a Brazilian server who is a sweet person
Dined here last night. As a restaurant owner and chef, I went in there after pandemic to help locally female owned restaurant and not a big chain. I want to be fair in my review, knowing hardships faced by the food industry, however, I believe constructive criticism would help owner and managers to improve customer experience. Remember, customers too work hard to earn their money and have been equally battered with pandemic lockdowns too, so its very important to give them a positive experience to make them return. The service was not at all acceptable. The manager or owner had a terrible attitude, did not have a friendly, caring presentation. The menus were dumped on the table and the way she communicated was rather aggressive. The Margarita I ordered was excellent. The free salsa/tortilla chips were tasteless and lacked flavour. The prawn dish I ordered lacked authentic, rich, diverse Mexican flavours, but was excessively salty. I but into a sugar cube sized salt blob that made me throw out the bite, and ruined my palate for rest of the dish. The other dish we ordered had melted cheese, but it hardened very quickly, likely having microwaved it when they melted it. Presentation of the dishes were good but the plates were literally thrown and dumped on our table rudely. When I asked for dessert menu, she rudely asked to wait and almost in threatening tone said they have only flan for dessert and vanished. Another server came to the table with dessert menu and I ordered the flan. It was hard and bit dry, with caramel sauce in top. tasted ok but it was far from fresh, likely too old. I left a generous tip, still wondering why the servers and owner/manager had aggressive attitude and unfriendly outlook. We treated her respectfully and were puzzled why they lost a good customer yesterday. When passion, quality, flavours, textures of food, service and ambience are missing, discerning customers notice. As for Peterborough downtown is concerned, it was garbage dump night, so outdoor patio reeked of garbage stench badly, at no fault of restaurant. I am not returning to this restaurant again. Not worth my time, my hard earned money and losing my happiness. I will post this review on Trip Advisor also.
Amazing food and atmosphere, La Hacienda is my go- to restaurant in Peterborough!
Very good food. Very nice patio. Service was poor.
One of my favourite places in Peterborough! I ordered nachos for takeout. They were ready super fast even though I was just a walk-in and didnt call ahead. The nachos were flawless and I cant stop thinking about them. I cant wait to go back and try more of the menu, it all looks incredible!
Went at the request of my wife for her bday lunch. Entrance can be confusing and it appears most go to the shop entrance instead of restaurant (clever ). I have eaten in Mexico and lived/visited areas in US with Mexican influences and I must say that this is the most authentic one Ive been to in Ontario. Only disappointment for me was the burrito lunch special. I ordered beef and should have opted for chicken or pork options. Otherwise great food and staff and really did not to expect to find one in Peterborough.
Their Grand Marnier Margaritas are to die for! We started off with the Guac, salsa and chips. So fresh! I had the deluxe fajitas (chicken shrimp and chicken) and after sharing was still able to take some home! The best Ive ever had! The sopa Azteka was hit as was the veggie Enchalada and beef Burrito. The service was wonderful and we had a cozy spot by the window!
Friendly staff. Big selection on menu. Good portion size. Excellent service.
Im very surprised by the positive reviews for this place. Maybe our waitress hated us? I decided to try this place and was thoroughly disappointed. Food came out bland, with no toppings, seasoning, or garnishes, no salsa or anything to speak of. We were told they didnt have anything.... Asked a male waiter and at least we got salsa... So I guess that was nice... Not sure what we ordered, but the ball of pulled pork looking stuff smelled like dog food, and the steak strips were super dry.... Had to ask multiple times to get our bill... Dont trust all the positive reviews, when this place is bad, its bad.... Really hoping for a reply to explain why our experience was so terrible?
Very Disappointed! Been wanting to try this place for some time. Got there, and one of the first things they say to me is.. We dont do take out after five. First of all, who doe not do takeout after five. Order my Tacos, ask her if it comes with salsa or sour cream.. and she just says no. I ask for no cilantro.. so instead. They put nothing on the tacos. There was at least supposed to be onions and a few other things. Bare to the bone. I eventually ask the waiter if I can buy salsa.. and he says it should have come with. The girl had a bad attitude.. was very unhelpful and the tacos were cold. Will not return.
I stepped in today to have lunch with my family and there were nothing but bees in the restaurant. They had both the front main and patio doors open and despite complaining to them about the bees they did not close either of those doors. They placed my family of 5 in the small room and there were dead bees along the window and like 5 bees roaming alive.
Best Mexican! Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie and vegan options as well as gluten free!
The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice and our server was pleasant. The service was slow and items were missed. The food was subpar, not alot of flavour and small servings. The prices are very high for the quality and quantity. They were out of several food options and common alcohol options which also made the experience subpar.
Food portions are small and bland was expecting more
amazing place. such a great spot!
The décor was great and the layout was very nice. My wife and I decided to sit outside and enjoy what little time we have left outside before it becomes to cold to eat on patios. The food was good, with the highlights being the corn chips, the tortillas, and the guacamole. Now I cannot speak about authenticity when it comes to salsa, however it was very mild and thin, which I still ended up enjoying, but having a chance to choose chunky and medium or hot would have been a welcomed addition. I ordered their vegetarian fajitas which tasted great, but there werent enough tortillas to use for the portion of peppers, onions, and rice that was provided. The woman who served us was nice but didnt say much, and didnt seem very interested in knowing about our experience. After everything is said and done, its a place I would go back to, but wouldnt be in my top 10 in Peterborough.
Great Mexican place at Peterborough. Price are reasonable. Might not have the best Sangria but it does the job lol
Went to La Hacienda for a date night. To be honest we couldve went anywhere in town but we love Mexican and have been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile. Pros: The food was delicious!! The portions were plentiful. Margarita was sooo yummy! The churros with caramel were fresh, hot & to die for! Cons: Our waitress had no spunk, no personality, she barely came into the room long enough to speak with us. The communication was LACKING!! And were fun folks to chat with! She dropped our food and basically ran away. There was no knowledge that hot sauce or hotter salsa was available. We didnt get a dessert menu. We had to ask about dessert. This definitely threw off our dining experience. The chairs & church pew were very uncomfortable! My margarita glass had multiple chips in it. These little touches dont go unnoticed and are so minor in updating a restaurant to keep people coming back. Not 100% sure if we will return ..
Very good meal. Very nice service
This place was really quaint, with wonderful music and helpful staff. The food was delicious and we got chips and salsa before our food and drinks arrived, which was a delightful surprise. The nachos were so so good!
Waitress was nice and friendly, but good was not the greatest.
Food was good tasting and service was good also. I just recommend to lower your expectations of real mexican food, because in reality it is mexican food with a twist of something different. I ordered a chicken soup and they gave me tinga with broth. I ordered a cochinita burrito, and it came with rice and sour cream, and not tasting like cochinita at all. The flavor was not bad, but it was definitely not what I was expecting, since they advertise it as authentic mexican food. I was disappointed, because we drove more than one hour to get there, due to the good rates in google.
Oh my gosh nothing but good things to say about this resturant. Althought understaffed Breigh made our little date night amazing. She was polite, friendly and quick with our order. If you have a craving for mexican food look no further. The dishes were excellent and the portions were large. Will 100% be back with friends and family... well done!
What a wonderful find in Peterborough. The food was fresh and delicious. Tried the cactus salad. What a kick but so good. A must try. Thank you.
The food and atmosphere were amazing! Im new to this area and this is my new favourite. Definitely would recommend it to anyone looking to try an authentic Mexican restaurant!
One of the best restaurants in Peterborough! Amazing flavours and big portions for the price. We ve been several times and I always try something different, I ve never been disappointed! The staff is friendly with great service! It s one of our favourites. I recommend the Burrito Dinner or any combination of the Tacos. Dietary restrictions: So many gluten free options!
Tasty food in a warm atmosphere. They even had the heart to offer a free meal to a homeless soul. Looking forward to our next visit.
Awesome food
Excellent food, great atmosphere. Almost everything is Gluten-free. That which is not is clearly marked as such. Food
