Cosy up at The Cuckoo in Peterborough, your charming country pub serving up classic and hearty dishes, cask ales and fine wines in a relaxed, traditional atmosphere.
Excellent food will service to match. Made to feel very welcome by all of the staff. Tried most of the menu as we were stopping locally for a few days and would recommend the steak & venison pie. Drop in for food and drinks you will not be disappointed.
Disappointed with The cukoo today. Went in for lunch and ordered a beef brisket sandwich. Nearly £12, would expect more than a tiny piece of stale bread with a sprinkle of meat inside which tasted and resembled tuna more so than beef. Raised to the staff who offered to change it but considering this was the best of the 4 that our group got I thought it pointless.
The best Sunday roast in Peterborough and the surrounding areas. The only reason I marked the service down was due to it being slow every time we've been. But saying that, the staff are lovely, very polite and helpful. If you are looking for a cosy, traditional atmosphere, this is the place. Parking on site and round the front on the road. We come here regularly and wouldn't recommend anywhere else on a Sunday! (Pic is of the mango Eton mess).
Great well cooked food and service. I was a customer a few years back and the quality was good, but over time the quality back then had dropped off quite a lot over the span of a year or so we stopped coming unfortunately. But trying out the food now it far surpasses the quality it was back then, even the historic best is not as good as it is now. Our server was Dannielle who did a great job and was really polite and the roast dinner was absolutely spot on. Could not fault it. Whatever has changed in that time has been a significant improvement.
Lovely afternoon spent here 3 items for £12 on the bar menu. Food was Amazing. Ricky and team was amazing made us feel at welcome and at home. Definitely worth the visit
The food was really good—everything we ordered was delicious and well-prepared. However, the experience was a bit overshadowed by the waiting staff. Our waitresses were loudly chatting about going out and getting drunk, their antics etc which was both distracting and unprofessional. It took away from the otherwise pleasant dining atmosphere.
Really disappointed. Called in here on my way past. I’m not from the area and was travelling to my hotel. First of all I hate the impersonal nature of ordering via your phone. As a solo traveller part of the reason you go out for a meal is to talk to people. Anyway, I was hungry so thought I’d try the steak. Ordered medium. Came out well done. Ordered salad. Originally came out with chips then the waitress changed for 3 lettuce leaves, 1 slice of cucumber, and yet more tomatoes. Ordered dauphinoise potatoes as a side. Came out burnt to a crisp so no sauce. I wanted to send the meal back as I’d paid £21.50 for the steak and £3.75 for the potatoes but didn’t want to cause a scene. No idea why every part of the meal had to come in a separate dish either…. If a waitress had bothered to come and see how the meal was I would have said something but they didn’t. Honestly, just stop for a drink and eat somewhere else.
Lovely evening out at the Cuckoo last night. Great atmosphere and food was delicious. Service was also very good-food came out at a good pace. Also I had the best Eton Mess I’ve ever had so thank you for that. Definitely recommend
Good food Good service Good company which made a great atmosphere
Very good food and service. Car parking is tight and limited, though.
Wonderful bar snacks by the log fire!
Great friendly atmosphere. Lovely decor. Food was disappointing however, starter was great but main and dessert were average at best. Service was ok but felt waiters were playing catch up from the start as they had confused the order, it was understandable as we were a group of twenty however it was a pre-order which they had weeks to prepare for. We had to ask for certain things like Yorkshire puddings and stuffing which I believe should have been on the plate with our roast dinner from the offset. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options available but not much choice.
Awful meal , xmas group of 8, no one had their meals brought out together, my meal was cold , then had to wait ages for second meal to come when it arrived there were salad leaves decorating an xmas turkey dinner ,parsnips were burnt and roast potatoes soft and slimy. With dessert waitress said she would return with cutlery but never did .Will not be returning . Am very disappointed in what used to be a favorite .
Lovely waitress, Lorraine:-)))
We had a lovely meal, great service by the waitresses. Parking: Plenty of parking spaces in car park and on road beside the cuckoo restaurant Wheelchair accessibility: No steps on entrance
We enjoyed an afternoon in the Cookoo eating and drinking with family. We really enjoyed our time we were not rushed to vacate the table and felt really relaxed.
The venue is lovely, but I was a little disappointed with the food, we had to have a something off the standard menu as the steak we wanted from the festive menu was sold out, we were ushered along with a question whether we wanted hot drinks whilst we were eating our dinner, and then told that the area was closing so wed need to pay. It all just seemed a little unwelcoming. The amount of chips we got with the steak was a underwhelming given the price and the steak quickly went cold. The room was quite cold and when we asked if we could put a log in the fire the waiter said cant put logs on after 8pm. I like the cuckoo, Ive been many times, but the food, and hospitality from young staff let the experience down in honesty.
great pub, great food, pleasant staff. a good evening out
slow service (over an hour for starters) and servers giving drinks while touching the tops of glasses (so unhygienic!) and she actively avoided us trying to sign her down for more drinks. It looks festive and cosy, and the food is OK. But gosh, youll be there all day just waiting for someone to take your drink order.
I ve booked a table for four with friends for Sunday lunch. Two of my friends had never been before as they are from Leicestershire. One of the friends is gluten intolerant And we wasn t sure what to expect of the menu initially as the menu looked more towards highlighting what was vegan or vegetarian. However, the staff were very accommodating and helpful, and we managed to get a beautiful roast for my friend Including gluten-free gravy and gluten-free cauliflower cheese. She really enjoyed her meal, as did we. Presentation and the quality of the ingredients as well as the way everything was cooked and presentation was absolutely spot-on. We loved having dinner here and would definitely return as a foursome. The Cuckoo has always been a lovely place to visit, But the fact they go out of their way to cater to allergies Is brilliant. Thanks to all the team for a lovely afternoon. Dietary restrictions: Good gluten free range of food including roast dinners.
Arrived at 8.30pm and asked if they are still serving food at the bar. Was told if quick could order - I was waiting for friend to arrive and 10 minutes later 8.40pm try to order food and told the kitchen is closed. Young girl comes out and tells me the kitchen closes at 9pm - well it s only 8.40pm. They started cleaning up - so don t say the kitchen closes at 9! She then tells me they ve had a busy day - well LUCKY YOU I say. Surely I m this current climate that s what you want. She tells me to go to the Harvester down the road. I find it odd that you would turn away business and send me to a rival business suffice to say I won t be going back. I have always found the service there to be terrible.
Very attractive pub, conveniently located close to the A1, making it a good choice for a meet up. Staff were extremely friendly and food was good. I would definitely come here again.
Shout out to Ella the server Vegetarian options: Some good options Food : 5/5 |
Awesome
A lovely place for a few drinks and a good meal. The staff are what makes The Cuckoo such a wonderful place to visit.
Great pub, great service and very friendly staff. Really enjoyed our meal here
Pie was lovely and we were served by Tina who was very attentive and friendly
Was in town for a couple days from the US and was looking for a nice sit down place with good food. The Cuckoo did not disappoint. Great food and good service. If we are back in town, we will stop again.
Tina was very polite and helpful. The food was tasty, I would definitely eat here again.
Great time had at a Christmas party. Thankyou to Tina our waitress for keeping our drinks topped up and food served hot
Thank you Tina, great food, great service, great evening. Thank you
Really lovely cosy pub with a very welcoming staff and an open fire. Well kept cask ale available. Service : 5/5
Only ok I m afraid.Used to love it here but went in during a quiet lunchtime service and had to wait 40 minutes for starters to come after watching people who came in later get their food first. Disappointing food with little flavour, calamari that was hard and cold and waitresses forgetting drinks all added up to a below average experience. Will be looking elsewhere unfortunately.
Everything in the cuckoo is great. Was my father-in-laws 90th tonight. Service a bit slower than usual but attentive and good foos
Our food and service was perfect for my daughters birthday, and the building is beautiful, thank you Parking: Plenty if parking, real fire and great food smells on arrival in car park.
Cat was awesome. Food was good. Lovely vibes.
Excellent service Great food Pat provided exceptional customer service Food : 5/5
Really enjoyed my time here. Warm, cozy atmosphere and I was well looked after by the team. The signature burger was amazing!
Delicious meal in lovely village and olde pub / restaurant, the service from Ella was great, will definitely come back again.
Great service 10/10 top of the morning to ya Ricky good food well recommended
Lovely afternoon spent here, the food was great, Ricky and all the staff made us feel very welcome. Well recommended.
Lovely welcoming vibe when we arrived. Was seated at our table quickly and wasn t forgotten about whilst deciding on order. Tina was our main server and was extremely helpful and friendly throughout. We all loved our food choices and was able to tweak the dessert to suit our taste too. Would highly recommend and would certainly revisit ourselves. Vegetarian options: There were choices for vegetarians Dietary restrictions: Was asked by everyone about dietary restrictions straight away
We love this pub. The food was great and the service from Ella was excellent! Well definitely be back!
Had a family meal there. Large number in our group. Service was great and food was very tasty. Our server was Danielle and she was very helpful and attentive
We had Sunday lunch here and whilst initial impressions were positive, sadly the food and service was disappointing. There was a lack of communication between the staff resulting in drinks not arriving along with difficulty in actually speaking with staff presumably due to insufficient numbers. When the food did arrive, the majority of the vegetables were not cooked well with a lot being burnt on the outside and hard in the middle and the cauliflower cheese was completely inedible. That said, the beer was good.
Food was great, service very efficient. Big thanks to Ella in particular.
Quality food and service
The landlord is a cracking chap very friendly and nothing too much bother. Food for a lunch was much enjoyed and been near the virgin media office handy for return visit
Went for lunch for a catch up with a childhood friend I havent seen for years. Staff were very welcoming and showed us to our table. We both had the mac and cheese and a drink. Food was lovely and the staff were attentive. Would recommend.
Only called in for coffee but service and ambience wonderful.
Poor food choice slow service rude staff and one meal inedible Vegetarian options: One option Food : 1/5 |
The only reason that I didn t give 6 stars for the food was that they d run out of their superb cheesecake!
Michelle went over and above today during our visit today. She made sure we had everything needed and was very friendly. Michelle even put some logs on the fire. Thanks Michelle. A testament to the company. Thanks
Amazing service from Michelle at the Cuckoo , always very friendly and excellent service.
Before I even ordered anything the land lady said I could park my campervan there. Alwalton is a picturesque small village where everyone knows everyone else. We were made to feel very welcome by the friendly people. The service was excellent and I enjoyed my meal. I highly recommend The Cuckoo to anyone travelling. James. Kid-friendliness: I was there night time so no kids were there. But it is dog friendly.
I used to love this Pub but the last few years it s really gone downhill. The roast dinners are always lukewarm/cold even if you ask them to make sure it s hot. The whole pub is dirty. The tables are always so sticky. It needs a revamp and has done for years. The service isn t great and one Sunday I was in the manager didn t even seem to acknowledge any customers! I have no idea why they can t serve hot food and why the roast potatoes are like tough rubber and the veg like rock. I go as it s my local and hope things will improve but they just get worse. My last visit the Lukewarm/cold food made me sick.
Rubbish service no one tells you at the price your paying you need to get your own knives and forms and condiments still waiting 1.5 hours later still not got my meal...rubbish wont come again.. Having read other reviews I hope our experience was a one off and others have a good experience....
Food price going up, staff quality going down. They forgot how to talk on the phone in a proper manner. Advertising childrens Santa events thats not even going to happen according to staff, but still taking deposits for it. Downhill.
Great food and drink in lovely surroundings
Excellent food. Terrible service.
Great service for a large party Very attentive, many thanks Ella Food
Good place, decent place, portions are to big ))))) very lovely and attentive service! Highly recommend
Lovely as always, best Sunday roast Ive ever had out at a restaurant. Will definitely come back!!
Lovely pub with a large outside area. Good food
Lovely meal, excellent service. Thanks Ella! Food
Rubbish food.
4 stars for the food as the beef in the pie was a tad tough and gristly, otherwise very tasty.
Dinner said chicken with BBQ and bacon and cheddar , came with a bechamel burger slop on top very salty and managers answer was its got cheddar mixed in with it....lady who served me did look upset so at least someone was bothered
Lovely food, great service and very friendly.
Visited yesterday as we often have in the past. Very disappointed. No staff at arrival, when one did arrive she claimed they had no availability but second person immediately took us to a table. After a short wait the drinks order was taken but these failed to materialise. Food ordered but then had to ask when drinks were coming as they had still not arrived. Whilst waiting for our food we noticed one plated meal get transported to the dining area and then returned to the kitchen. My companion jokingly commented that she hoped that was not her meal getting cold ! When we did get food it felt as if it had been sitting ing the kitchen for a while and was luke warm at best. The fish was dry and the chips overdone and were mainly the edge cuttings from the potatoes. The hunters chicken was passable but not as good as in the past. We felt the restaurant was understaffed. Towards the end of our meal we were asked how things were but the server seemed uninterested in our reply and just walked away. As stated we have been to the Cuckoo on several occasions, including two Christmas Day lunches, but have to say that this has been by far the worst experience we have had.
Lovely fish finger sandwich great service by Danielle
Excellent service and friendly staff
Ella was very lovely and friendly ,paying attention to us,great service.
Brilliant pub
Staff are friendly and welcoming. Not rushed at all having had our meals and chatting. Vegetarian options: Aubergine dish very tasty
Great staff Great atmosphere Great food Food : 5/5
Great service, very attentive. We were a party of 10 and the order was correct. 2 people are disabled and in wheelchairs, we had a large space reserved for us so we could get the wheelchair in and out without issue. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free diet, good selection and some things that arent always available.
We had a really lovely dining experience, and we had a lovely waitress Ella, she was very friendly and attentive, and very kind. The chef Scott who cooked for us made an enjoyable meal and Ashley made our pudding which was really tasty and presented very well. Also the music was a lovely selection and was a good volume
The service from Ian the chef was amazing! The quality of his meals are superb!
What can I say, the meals prepare by our chef Ian were delicious! I ll be back to try the steak next! Thank you for a great meal Ian!
Food was really nice, the chefs name was scott. Service was impeccable from Ella. Will be making a return very soon.
Great service from the chef ian, amazing food, will definitely be returning very soon!!!
Lovely, welcoming staff at the bar upon arrival. The log burner was enticing and created a relaxing atmosphere. Ordered off of the bar menu. Three items for £12, absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend! Ricky and team were fab! Parking: Ample parking
Brilliant food
Amazing bar snacks
Great service from isabela, thank you for making us giggle
For Izabela - thank you very much for all your amazing service, professionalism and kindness. Kid-friendliness: Very nice communication with the kids!!!
Nice pub, but the food is appalling. The attached picture of a Chickpea burger w/o the bun cost £15.75. Whichever chefs allowed this to leave the kitchen clearly lost their passion a long time ago. Food : 1/5
Been here a few times recently and have the same issue - service. You can stand at the bar waiting to be served while staff walk by, load the dishwasher, do all kinds of things, except serve customers. A one-off during busy times maybe, but 3 times in a couple of weeks??
Reece the waitor was great!
The food was great, Reece our waiter was excellent meeting all our needs as requested and was so polite and helpful!!! We had a wonderful time
Good food.lovely atmosphere.lovely staff....Reece exceptional customer service, absolutely brilliant..thankyou from Jacob and family
Service is great, food is spot on. Very welcoming, see you soon. Keep up the great team.
Lovely service and lovely food
Fantastic experience great food outstanding service cat really looked after us thank you
We were served by Gift who was lovely. Great customer service bubbly personality yet professional. Good was excellent. Tables were a little too close but really enjoyed the evening.
Despite living two minutes down the road, we haven t been here for over a year, as we had a very bad experience on Father s Day last year. We came this afternoon and a lovely roast and a drink. We had to wait a bit for the food but they were transparent (and it came quicker than we were told!), and we didn t mind waiting in the sun!
Great food as always
Great time. Gift was amazing - she will go far in life. Rob
Gift provided a fabulous service - an asset to The Cuckoo. Thank you
Absolutely fantastic experience at The Cuckoo! This pub has quickly become my go-to spot for a great night out. The drink selection is superb, with an impressive variety of craft beers, fine wines, and expertly mixed cocktails. Whether youre in the mood for a classic pint or something a bit more adventurous, they have something to please every palate. But what really sets The Cuckoo apart are their desserts. Each one is a delightful surprise creative, delicious, and beautifully presented. From their rich chocolate stout cake to the intriguing whiskey-infused bread pudding, every dessert is a treat worth saving room for. The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and outstanding menu make The Cuckoo a must-visit. Five stars all the way! Vegetarian options: Yes plenty of options Dietary restrictions: Some options Parking: Not enough spaces Kid-friendliness: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
We had a perfect evening. The food was faultless and the service was fantastic. Cat and Nicola went above and beyond to assure we were looked after. The venue was beautiful and I would recommend this place to anyone.
Food was amazing, Gift was a very attentive waitress the only downside was the lighting was a little intense
Nothing was great, the dining area we were sat right next to the toilets so we could smell the toilets while we ate our food, we booked for 2 pm and didn t get served our meal until 2:46 pm, when the food did arrived the kids meals chips were Stone cold, The dining room was absolutely freezing. We were told that the radiators were on so we went and checked them and they were cold, we also asked if we could put the fire on and they said no, not very hospitable very slow service and some of the food was cold.
Lovely food, great looking a bit sad inside. windows rotten and many lights not working. Food OK but not much choice
Vegan menu great shame no dishes with pulses. Unfortunatly if you are vegan or dairy free you xannot get tea ir coffee unless its black as no soya milk..... big no go .....shame
Nice pub/restaurant in a lovely location. Reasonable food and beer choice.
We enjoyed our meals, I had the chicken, bacon and avocado salad. But I only had 1 small piece of avocado and Im not sure that makes a salad . Husband had lasagna which he said was very nice.
We drove past here on way to hotel. Booked online. We have vintage inns near to us and know you get a decent meal. We were not let down. Food
Vegetarian options: Great service and food Recommended dishes
First time visiting, booked the table online from the website, received a warm welcome from Joe and the team when we arrived. Good selection of food on the menu, our group ordered a selection of starters, mains and desserts all of which were very tasty and filling. Joe was an excellent host, kept us supplied with drinks and ensured the food arrived swiftly. Definitely worth visiting.
If I could give it a zero. I would! A joke of a restaurant where half the menu has run out at 7.30pm!! Came to celebrate my 40th birthday and it was just disappointing. We finally decided after 20 mins that we would get what s there since we can t get another booking elsewhere this late. And then they tell us the wait for food is one hour!!!!! Why couldn t you say that before?? Honestly, don t waste your time and energy. Will warn everyone we know and tell the hotel near us as well to warn their guests.
We were served by gift who was lovely and engaging
Poor, inattentive service. Poorly communicated sold out menu items. Menu items served incomplete and over cooked. Disappointing. Would not recommend. Waiting staff not adequately trained. Forgetful. Slow. Unfocused. Unprofessional. Left us at table for 20 mins without service. Cleared dishes loudly, stacking and scraping food off plates at table. Signature prawn cocktail missing avocado. Signature burgers cooked to leather. Went looking for the bill having been left unattended for another 20mins when tables cleared. Standard of service and food quality do not justify the price points.
Im a big fan of vintage.
Great family feeling and quality food, beautifully prepared for more than reasonable price. Lovely, authentic atmosphere. Will return every time we re in the neighborhood
Lovely pub in Alwalton. Weather was amazing so spent most of our time in the beer garden.
the atmosphere and the food was lovely - the only thing I disagree with was the tip - I didnt bring cash and I did tip but my tip doesnt go to our waitress - it was shared which I though was unfair
Starters took over an hour to come and were over cooked. We waited a further 40 minutes before leaving without receiving our mains. We were informed on arrival that there were limited mains and desserts.
Lovely quiet put of town pub with fantastic outdoor space and beautiful cosy interior. Vintage inns have this place nailed with excellent food and good service from the staff. Good parking and reasonable prices for the quality recommended visit
Lovely place Delicious fish und chips Friendly and helpful staff Vegetarian options: Good Kid-friendliness: Absolutely kids friendly Wheelchair accessibility: Full access for outdoor area
Very dissapointed, many items on menu not avaliable ie no pies, no triple roast, no turkey, items also not avaliable no beans served with sea bass, banana not caramelised on pudding, and no dog treats
Very nice lunch, good service, lovely pub
Lorraine very good.
Lorraine is so lovely Made our service Smile and good laugh Food : 5/5
Last minute decision to visit, made very welcome by Gift, our delightful hostess. She was very personable and helped us choose a lovely meal. We were lucky, as I would recommend pre-booking as this venue (and Gift!) are a delight and obviously popular.
Visit on 7th August 2024. Food was good. Pub was very busy and waitress (Gift) was obviously working very hard but very cheerful throughout
Great service from Gift this evening
Gift was absolutely amazing and super attentive. Amazing food and atmosphere.
Me, my partner and parents came here for a meal out. Our waitress was Gift she was very energetic and highlighted all the stuff that was available and gave some of her recommendation which my partner really liked as she took her recommendation and enjoyed it. I would recommend visiting it is a great place
We ve visited a few times since the new take over. Everytime we ve been welcomed by very friendly staff, especially Lorraine, who goes out of her way to chat to us and make us feel at home. The service is brilliant, even when it s busy. We are slowly making our way through the extensive menu, and will be sure to be back to try more of the lovely food!
Lorraine was very friendly and professional, service and food excellent.
Excellent service. Lorraine is efficient and friendly and super helpful. She makes coming here a pleasure. Excellent food. Only recommendation would be to check stock as we came last week as well and both times there were several things on the menu not available, which was a little disappointing.
This is the second time in two weeks that we visited the cukoo , on both occasions we had a very good meal with excellent service from Lorraine, we will definitely be going again as they were very welcoming and were very dog friendly.
Lovely meal no faults and great service from Lorraine thank you.
Lovely pub & fantastic food! Service was fab! Izabela & Scott were great!
Gift was awesome
Great food, Gift was a really nice waitress helpful & attentive. Will be back again.
Lovely girls night dinner. Service from Izabela was great and super friendly. Food was quick and tasty.
Izabela s service was exceptional and she was very friendly and attentive. The food was phenomenal, thank you, Chef Hollie!
Izabela was so helpful at our table this evening. We had a lovely night, and food was fantastic (thank you chef Hollie!)
The food was lovely and the customer service from Gift was exceptional. Thank you!
We went out for a meal with our friends to cheer us up and what an experience we had - our lovely waitress Gift, was a breath of fresh air. She was very pleasant and very engaging and couldn t have been more helpful. She was a gift to us, and I hope that she to the Cuckoo, and is given recognition she deserves. Oh! and by the food was good too.
Really enjoyed our meal and great service, thanks to Izabela and the team! Wheelchair accessibility: Level access and toilet Food : 4/5 |
Lovely meal, experience, and atmosphere. Thank you Gift for your amazing service! Keep slaying & I hope pharmacology works out!!! Food : 5/5
Great food and service. Thankyou to our server Gift who was lovely and helpful. Always love coming here and will continue to come here. Enjoyable atmosphere Food : 5/5 |
Very nice dinner yesterday evening, great service from Izabela would recommend
Our waitress Izabela was lovely and was very attentive, the food was great (thank you Chef Ian)
Great place, Izabela provided excellent service.
Had a wonderful experience gift was a lovely waitress
Dietary restrictions: The team were very aware of allergens and my gluten free meal was clearly identified Food
Lovely dinner we were a table of four and we all enjoyed our food we had great service by our server Ella
Visited the cuckoo on a Sunday evening whilst visiting family in the area.I ordered a Sunday roast myself and my partner the sea bass.We dis sit outside on one of the warmest evenings this year but dont really expect your food to come almost chilled. The roast turkey I had was enjoyable but would have preferred it warmer and not missing the bacon wrapped stuffing.Did think about going to the var to mention this but by then my meal would have been stone cold.Maybe a follow up from serving staff asking if our meal was OK could have rectified this.Slightly disappointing end to our day in a lovely pub in a great setting.
The pub is within walking distance from our hotel so for us easy to reach. Atmosphere 5 stars. Our server Izabela was delightful . Our chef Ian was spot on this evening. Could not have been a better experience.
Came a little too late to enjoy some food a pity the kitchen close at 9 during the week it was highly recommended. But the place and the atmosphere was amazing
The choice of dishes can diminish as the evening progresses at The Cuckoo. We arrived at nearly 8pm so a few choices were not available. However the food we did order was fresh and an excellent quality and to the table quickly. Nicola who looked after us was extremely professional.and attentive. Our French visitors were very impressed.
Part of meal was over cooked. The rest was under cooked. Staff didnt have a good knowledge of drinks on offer.
A lovely dinner with friends. The waiting staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes. My meal (the chicken panang curry) was delicious.
Fantastic food, Izabella (our server) was great, quite noisy however as it was very busy.
Really great experience at this pub! The food is amazing and the portions are enormous. The service was great and the staff is really friendly 10/10 recommend
tonight, my dining experience was elevated to another level, all thanks to our amazing waitress, Gift. From the moment we were seated, Gift greeted us with the warmest smile, instantly making us feel at home. Her name truly reflects her presence she is indeed a gift to any guest who has the pleasure of being served by her. Gifts attention to detail was impeccable. She anticipated our needs even before we expressed them, ensuring that our glasses were always filled and that we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive; she made excellent recommendations that catered to both our tastes and dietary preferences. The way she described each dish was so vivid and enthusiastic that it made us excited to try them all. What truly set Gift apart was her genuine warmth and friendliness. She engaged with us effortlessly, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and personal connection. Despite the restaurant being busy, she never rushed us and made sure that every part of our meal was perfect. Her positive energy and attentiveness turned a simple dinner into a memorable experience. If youre dining at this restaurant, I cant recommend asking for Gift enough. She will turn your evening into something special with her exceptional service and delightful personality. Thank you, Gift, for making our night so wonderful! We will definitely be back, and it will be because of you.
Good food and selection of beers, good atmosphere. Great service by staff; particular thanks to Dominic, super-helpful and friendly.
Lovely meal with the family.
Great Food and Service
Lovely pub with great food. Staff were excellent.
2 hours for lunch main courses only was a bit slow.
Lovely food - huge portions and the service from Austina and Izabela was perfect. Thank you we will be back again xx
Lovely place, awful service and very average food if they have what you want!
My partner and I were staying at a local retreat and decided this place looked good. We had a table booked so waited to be seated, after waiting approx 10 mins, having two members of staff walk past us and having the bar maid who had just finished serving a customer look directly at us and walk to the other end of the bar, my partner went and told someone we had a table booked as a queue had began forming behind us. Once being sat our drinks order was taken and came 5 minutes later, we told the waiter we were ready to order to which he replied i ll be with you in 2 minutes , after this we waited a further 15-20 minutes before my partner once again had to go ask him if he could take our order. We ordered and food came out in a reasonable time and was good. we ate then promptly asked for the bill and left. Having worked in hospitality for 2 years ourselves we understand how difficult working in hot weather can be however it s no excuse for the service we received considering it wasn t very busy. We re patient people however this was a frustrating experience for us.
Great place, just off the A1. There is plenty of parking and dog friendly in the bar. Lovely conversions of some old buildings. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
We love the Cuckoo ... we come to Peterborough every year to meet up with our friends, and have eaten at the Cuckoo every time. Weve never been disappointed. Dietary restrictions: Catered well for coeliac with a separate menu. Isaac gave excellent advice on this.
Had to ask 3 times to get checked into our table, then had to ask for the table to be cleaned, told itll still be smeary. Not all choices available, fish and chips poor, fish batter uncooked, had to send mushy peas back as pot dirty & only a teaspoon. Nothing hot. Put us off ordering pudding. Wouldnt go again.
Very tatty, toilets were disgusting and unhygienic needs total refurbish! Some items not on menu.
Had a lovely meal out for my son s birthday a big thank you to Izabela and Reece for fantastic service. The food was amazing and wouldn t hesitate to go again. Food
Had the most incredible evening and meal. Austina, our waitress was a delight, always smiling, and even with my slightly awkward order, I was accommodating and patient. Thank you, Austina, and team for a lovey evening.
We came tonight for my Birthday, having been long term customers this was our first time coming to eat since a disappointing experience on new years eve. Although we have been several times for just beers in the sun and the great relaxed atmosphere the pub has always offered (also building up stamps on an excellant loyalty scheme). Im pleased to say the dinner and service were back to the standards I expect of them. Really nice food allthough I will say again (sorry Austina) the legendary cheesy garlic mushrooms still need a more creamy sauce, more garlic and less cooking to get back to where they were. A note on our waitress Austina she was enthusiastic, attentive, engaging and friendly without being intrusive which is a great balance. Her recommendations for the add ons were well received, being in sales myself, its nice to see attention paid to the detail, the art of recommendation is often forgotten. In a fast food world that serves up only what you say, without suggesting what would compliment the meal customers can miss out on the full experience. Tonight was a pleasing return to form for me.
Excellent service from Caris and the team. Our fave place to come. Such a romantic, cosy atmosphere and delicious food. Thank you so much :)
We ate here for our 21 st wedding anniversary and the food was fantastic, new management have had an instant impact. We came here in December for works Xmas meal and it wasn t great. However we decided to give it a go as we ve always loved the Cuckoo and didn t disappoint. The lamb I had was incredible, cooked perfectly but the service was some of the best I ve had and Ricky the new manager along with is wife were out speaking with customers and his staff the same. I really like that interaction, not for everyone I know. But really recommend the cuckoo again now the new management are in . My only tiny negative, the veggie options on the mains need a bit more work Vegetarian options: Need a better option on the mains for them.
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was on point really happy for been made at home
We visited Friday evening on a last minute trip out , we were kindly offered a table within the bar area , Staff were engaging with customers and overall this place is our favourite go to place. Cracking funny Irish Guy who recommended some of the bar snacks , there was plenty and was hot and delicious. Highly recommend a visit.
Food very good quality and decent portions. Staff could be better trained, however, and the wait between courses was very long. I had to remind them twice about my dessert, even though the rest of my table had been served.
We been in Cuckoo several times, its normally our go to place for nice cozy dinner, lovely atmosphere and food. We had some negative experience in the past, but not quite like this. Our last visit twas really quite bad. We been told that waiting time for food would be half an hour to which we said its fine, cause thats what it normally takes anyway. We came just a bit after six and we received our food at 7.30, so the wait was well over hour, kids were getting really frustrated and unsettled. Wait would have been fine to be fair if the food would have been great, but unfortunately that was not the case. My hunters chicken didnt have a bbq sauce and had a half slice of bacon, salad had no sauce, oil or any dressing at all. My son had ordered peas with his pizza, but received veggie sticks, we told the waitress that he actually ordered peas not veggie sticks, so we been told that we will have to pay extra for them and will have to wait a bit as theyre quite busy. To be honest, we never complain when it come to food services anywhere, but small things add up and waiting for food for a very long time it just was unacceptable and not a nice experience. Waiting is fine as long as you nail the food, but that just simply didnt happen. We didnt argue or complain, just ate, paid and left.
James d is geat behind the bar Dietary restrictions: Good options for dietary requirements Food : 5/5 |
Sadly a poor review Starters missing two items! Second choice of soup which was tasteless and microwaved super hot so had no taste and then the Brie bites, absolutely no Brie! Returned these but ate my starter after hubby!!! The cress salad that accompanied it was limp! Although the manager removed these from the bill! The rest of the service was shocking! Ordered a doombar beer surprisingly it was off! So had to have second choice! The mains although tasty were super volcanic hot so like microwave food! Ordered creme brûlée and guess what not available !! Liquor coffee was so grainy u could not drink it! Puddings so not worth the cost! The worst dinner out ever unfortunately . Really disappointing will not recommend ever.
What an enjoyable place to dine in Peterborough. Its been about a year since our last visit and this place has only gotten better. Our meal was delicious. We had chorizo sausages, spicy pepperoni pizza, calamari, mac and cheese, and other great dishes. The staff was great especially because we had someone with food allergies in our party. They ensured that all the food was free from those allergens. Well be back, hopefully sooner than a year from now. Dietary restrictions: Just let the server know and they will do their best to accommodate you. Parking: Probably space to accommodate 50 cars. Spaces are a bit tight and ideal for smaller cars.
Our family of four went for Sunday lunch The service was excellent cant fault it at all The food was great to I would recommend it to anyone Food : 5/5
We had a large family gathering here on Saturday, the staff were very friendly and helpful, but.... When we came to order we were told that there was no steaks or sea bass on the menu and a selection of the beers also not available. If this had been late on a Saturday night Ok maybe acceptable, but this was 19.15.
Had a lovely midweek meal whilst over in Peterborough, food was incredible and the service matched! The lovely Reece was our waiter and he served us with a smile on his face the whole time would highly recommend
Love it here , unfortunately unable to come daily although it would be a dream! Dannielle looked after us today and we want to take her home too! Impossible to fault! Many thanks to all at the cuckoo Food : 5/5
Massively understaffed. Very busy. Food substandard, cold, had stood for too long. Long wait for food so we didnt order desert. Only plus point the young staff were really good and worked soo hard. Normally I would have spoken to the Manager but he was cooking. They had enough going on. This was our Wedding anniversary, not good Im afraid
We were served today by Danielle, who was amazingly attentive. Great service, fab atmosphere, great food as always. Thanks as ever!
Reasonable lunchtime menu, comfortable outdoor seating with shades n pleasant staff. Need to order n pay for outdoor food at the bar, no waiter service other than food brought to table. In house carpeting needs replacing & furniture urgently requires to be reupholstered. Toilets also require attention! Vegetarian options: A few pasta options without meat, salads & a vegan option of an aubergine dish Parking: Plenty including a few on street. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor n outside dinning
A delicious Saturday night meal. Service was brilliant, especially Gift who is a credit to the restaurant. Food was delicious and portions were good. Thank you for having us
My wife and I had a very pleasant experience at the Cuckoo as it was an excellent traditional English pub/restaurant with a great atmosphere and rustic interior. The service was excellent and our server (Gift) was extremely friendly and attentive, which is not always the case these days even in the better establishments. The only negative was that the meal (chicken pie) was bulked up a little too much with broccoli and cabbage (neither of which I like) however the quality of the food was very good and we d be happy to return on the basis of the overall experience. Definitely recommended if you re in the area and it s a nice little corner of Peterborough.
