Ashburnham Ale House in Peterborough

I go here for lunch all of the time and the food is great, very clean restaurant, great atmosphere and friendly staff!

A great pub to grab a beer and a bite in downtown Peterborough. We walked there along Rotary Trail and shared the beet spinach salad and calamari. Friendly staff and an historic house and setting.

Excellent service from our server Spencer. Both of our meals were including the Mushroom Soup

I hate hate giving a less than perfect review but.. what. Is. Happening? I ve been there a lot and I gave the benefit of the doubt the first five times. Stay away. Go to the subway across the street ffs. This place doesn t even care to try and as someone from the industry I guarantee the owner just comes in maybe once a week, which is why the service slash behaviour is what it is. I only visit Peterborough to see my mom and she always recommends this place. Have a smoke or two before going to kill your taste buds. That ll be your only hope. Barf.

Thursday, I came a couple of hours drive from out of town to visit a long lost friend who traveled even further from Peterborough and this is the place that was recommended to us. Servers were amazing and both the draught and meal suggestions were explained in a way I no longer felt I had a choice; The beer and main course (brought back by popular demand we were told) Lambo were absolutely delicious! I could not finish my meal and I regret (kicked myself twice) now not to have agreed to take the leftovers home. Reminiscing in the club chairs in front of the fireplace was the best spot to be for us. When passing through in the future, this will be the place to come back to. It was uplifting to see my good old friend after so many years so we shall definitely stay in touch and visit from here onward. Cheers :)

Great Service and atmosphere. The fish and chips, a few words. The fish was all batter, almost no fish. I like batter but please more fish or thinner batter. And the fries, they had cayenne and a ton of black pepper. I appreciate the chefs ambition but the fries should be offered plain or spiced. couldnt eat them. Beer selections were great.

Steak Frites was fantastic!

Excellent service. We happened to go on a night where there was some staff training going on. Our food ended up coming quite slowly but we really appreciate how the staff handled things. We were given drinks on the house and discounted our food heavily. This was all completely done by the staff and we had never asked for any compensation. Aside from that, the food was great and enjoyed our time.

Went yesterday with a large group - would NOT recommend this place for large groups. As someone in the industry for years, I was shocked by the service. There were only 10 adults, they gave us a condensed menu with really boring options that made it difficult to choose from. We were not allowed to hear the specials or order them. When we ordered an appetizer they only gave us 2 side plates & no extra napkins. I dropped a fork and had to go searching for one. The server was no where to be found half of the time. Every single time we ordered anything she asked whose bill it was on. My food was cold, but it tasted good.

Delicious. Food was hot and fresh. Meghan our server was superb! I had the Reuben which was generous in portions and the side house salad was excellent. My husband had the sunshine pasta. Very good although a tad too much black olive flavour and short on pasta. But service and atmosphere and price excellent !

Weve been offered the worst table despite most of the other tables being empty and not filled up after we left!

$90 dollars for a burrito, salad and 2 beers (one was a small size). Service was a bit slow, but not too bad and very friendly. Food was very mediocre. Not worth the price to sit on a patio facing a parking lot and eat mediocre food.

Amazing atmosphere. Attentive servers. Awesome food. My partner and I got the beet salad and the Karma 2.0; both were fantastically flavoured though if you like really spice the karma 2.0 needs something more. Claire who I believe was the host went well above and beyond for host duties.

Weekend breakfast! Looking for something a little beyond bacon & eggs that wont break the bank? Try the brunch options here. Great waffles, unique French Toast options and great coffee. We dined inside with visiting friends and they willingly lowered the music volume in our area to make conversation more comfortable.

This is one of my favourite restaurants. But Why do the dishes here get so salty more and more?

Good food and friendly staff

We stopped for lunch on our way through town. We enjoyed everything about our experience. The food was incredible, I had the Quesadilla and my hubby had the soup and roast beef sandwich, both were delicious and freshly made. Service was excellent, our orders were taken promptly and food came out quickly despite it being busy both inside and on the patio. We did not however feel rushed and were able to enjoy our meal at our pace. Will definitely go back any time we drive through!

Have been here previous times for drinks and apps with no issues. Today came for lunch with a party of 6, they messed up on my partners order twice (server came back to say it was inputted correctly). He asked for no cheese...new server came back took it..returned maybe 30 seconds later, they clearly peeled cheese off...but left bottom slice of cheese on . My daughter asked for a second drink, they returned with a dirty cup that had lipstick on it. My daughter was using a straw...complained, they didnt discount bill, or half price anything..I was severely disappointed. Will not recommend.

The Coconut Chicken Curry Tastes EXACTLY like Butter Chicken. I dont see a difference, not one bit. It tastes great obviously. Perfect taste. There was a home-made tzatziki on the side but when you dip the chicken with it, it makes it horrible because the tzatziki has this odd sour taste to it which is a bad taste. The Coconut Chicken Curry is PERFECT itself. Great service. The waitresses are Great. The dish was served with less Basmati Rice. I needed more Basmati Rice, asked for more, & they gave me another bowl free of charge. Thank you so much! This is overall a great spot - Ashburnham Ale House. One of the better pubs here in Peterborough.

Ive been dining at Ashburnham Ale House for years because its always a great experience. Have been many times and recently met up with a good friend to enjoy lunch on the patio. Always great service, food and drinks in an enjoyable atmosphere. Highly recommend. (And I love the look of the new condo buildings across the road. East City is a lovely part of Peterborough. With the trail beside the restaurant and beautiful homes for blocks, it makes a nice area to walk before or after your meal.)

Food was delicious, we had a private seating area outside which was nice. Overall this place was great. Only gave one less star because they forgot to bring a drink we ordered, but otherwise were great.

Literally couldn t even eat the spanakopita pie. Adding bread crumbs on top of filo pastry defeated the purpose of filo s perfectly crispy nature. It was a mess. Also, adding cheddar took away from the other more subtle cheese flavours that make spanakopita delicious. One of the worst dishes I ve ever eaten. Luckily the server was great and didn t charge me. He brought me a chicken wrap which was actually really yummy with lots of fresh veggies.

Went here for lunch at work, waited 20 minutes without a drink, the hostess was rude, nobody showed any interest in taking my order. Ended up leaving after 20 minutes with no service.

Went for dinner tonight. Atmosphere was good, service was great and the food for the most part decent. My only complaint was the size of the BBQ Ribs dish. For $28, you only get a half rack on top of fries and a small bowl of coleslaw. All the other dishes we ordered were plentiful and tasty. So the next time I go, I ll be avoiding the rib dish.

What a pleasant surprise. Visiting Peterborough to see the Canoe Museum, girl at museum recommended Ashburnham Ale House. Glad she did. Innovative menu, lots of food flair, some often-seen pub foods taken up a notch, and a few great additions to the menu you dont normally see. First time in my life I had a pizza with beets on it, and by golly it worked. Great service, generous portions for a fair price, and you can tell by the decor that whoevers in charge has a real restaurateur spark. Great to discover this interesting place in predominantly bland Peterborough, sorry Peterborough.

This a great restaurant for the people who look for delicious food. I might create a reason in the future to come to Peterborough just to eat again at this place. We were served by Peter who is a great host. He has very positive energy

Braised beef taco special x2 ordered and what we received was a lot of DRY meat , topped with tzatziki. Had to ask for their light gravy to help with that. Some of our favourite items ( like calamari) has been removed from the menu. Maybe new ownership. The place also looks a little tired. I have been a regular customer for years but don t believe we would return after our experience on this Fathers Day evening.

A great spot to grab a bite! I got the Greek Burger, and while it wasn t what I was expecting, it was still super tasty! Dip it in the mustard, trust me! Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is excellent. I was quite fond of the art around the room. Next time in Peterborough, I ll be sure to stop in.

My wife and I frequently go to the Ale House every Sunday and experienced very good, service and atmosphere. HOWEVER the last few times we went there was discussing. Most recent - yesterday my wife was waiting and waiting at the front desk - waiting to be seated while 3 servers were talking with each other. - no one acknowledged her for minutes until one of them actually looked up- can I help you To top it all off - my wife came from the women s washroom and was totally disgusted with the cleanliness - too graphic to share . My wife and I are considering to look at other eateries to spend our hard earned money. Obviously the staff yesterday doesn t recognize this.

We stopped for lunch . Service was good but food took a little over an hour to arrive. I would suggest to management they have servers give an ETA on food when ordering if they are backed up in the kitchen. We had 5 different dishes and they were all excellent quality both in serving and flavour. Menu item around $20 each for lunch.

Visit April 4, 2024 for late lunch. Extensive beer and beverage list with some seasonal options. Solid menu selections. Food was great and prepared promptly. Thursday and weekend evenings may be busier times. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Lovely decor with historical accents. Would highly recommend.

i ordered the Hot and sloppy and asked the server if there was a lot of fat content on the sliced beef, she reassured me there was not . However, after experiencing said, hot and sloppy, I could not chew my way through. Therefore, I would not recommend the Hot and sloppy. also, I want to add that we had three servers attend our table at several frequent times, and felt very rushed, considering this was at 8:30 PM and they close at 11. we have had better experiences, dining at this location, but tonight was not one of them.

1st time here. Party of 10 on a time crunch. Food was of the charts! I had wings. So delish! I also had fries. Not a huge fan of fries but these ones were fantastic. My friend had a humungus cheeseburger and fries. We both had pops. $52 pre tip. I thought the price for quality and quantity was great. Service was very good and quick. I actually was just referring this place to my inlaws today. I dont live in Ptbro but would def go again when in town. Wheelchair accessibility: Totally accessible.

I love the food here and have a gift card for months that I can t use cause they re never accepting take orders. Even when you call at like 3:30 on a weekday they just can t squeeze in a sandwich and fries to go. Just too overwhelming for them. Also, last three times I ve tried to dine in I ve been sent away from an empty restaurant cause it s an hour wait.

We have ordered take out a few times now, and the food is always excellent. Our orders are ready typically within 15-20 minutes of ordering and the staff is super friendly! The cheezler is delicious and the bourbon cream gnocchi is to die for! There is something for everyone here!

This is by far my favorite place in Peterborough to have smoked wings with friend fresh cut fries. Like the keg met an ale house and then started to do smoked food. Friendly staff with an awesome environment and consistently delicious food with even gluten-free options. For the beer lovers like my wife, they have an awesome selection of draft, bottled, and canned beers. Im a cider man myself, which they have a couple of great options for.

Weve gone here several times when visiting my brother and his family in Peterborough. The food is always delicious and the service is great. My only complaint is that there isnt a lot of parking, but it always works out :) We were just there for my sister-in-laws birthday and they did not disappoint. The food was delicious and everyone left happy. Parking: Parking is ok, but if its a busy night, they dont have enough spots.

Small menu so things are always fresh. Food is always great, hot things hot the way they should be. Staff attentive but not smothering. Cozy and inviting atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. Vegetarian options: Had the coconut chicken cury. Amount of heat was perfect.

We arrived, and with an empty table visible, we were told it would be a 30- 45 min wait and was told we could go across the street to their sister restaurant. We decided to wait. We were seated at the front of the restaurant, placed our an order, and we received our appetizer and 40 plus mins later, our dinner arrived. Greek burger was amazing, as was the blueberry lemon bread pudding. Will explore other options on our next visit to Peterborough.

Good food. Great place in East city to grab a pint and hang out. Wood fireplace to curl up to. Food is good, better than pub fair, reasonably priced.

I wish I could review the food but after waiting for 45 minutes for it, we left. Not the way I wanted to spend my birthday. The waitress then finally came to say there was a mix up in the kitchen and had to retake our order. After another 15 minutes of sitting, we left. The worst part is thatnot once did someone come to check on us. We won t be back. .

Every time I have been to Ashburnham Ale House it has been slamming with customers! A true depiction of how incredible this place is, I dont mind waiting a few extra minutes to be seated. The staff are out of this world, consistently great with recommendations for both food and drink! And when you do get the food and drink? Delightful! Thank you always for an overall 10000% enjoyable experience!

My entire meal was delicious, my burger had such a great balance of flavours. I loved the tzatziki and goat cheese. And the sour pickle, and tangy salad. Im looking forward to coming back.

Im sure all the food is very good, but I had the best entree Ive had in a restaurant for the past 10 years. LITERALLY. I recommend the gnocchi in a bourbon cream sauce with mushrooms and brisket. 1000 out of 10! Their great selection of craft beers makes me wish I could still drink beer. Instead I had the homemade lemonade - also delicious!

They served us a dry hamburger. The waitress offered another idem but I couldnt justify the price for how expensive and how gross the hamburger was. The rest if the food was decent.

Not worth the twenty or so minutes we added on to our trip to Markham from Ottawa. Looked good on google. Alehouse!! Pictures even looked good, sort of rustic . Parking was a little difficult but found something within a few minutes. Got there. Outside tables were all busy. Not sure why because the outward views were mostly towards a loud busy commercial street or nondescript alley. Inside was less busy but not much in the way of ambience. Most have been an unlucky day because we were treated to three big crashes of plates and cutlery from the kitchen atea. As boxes went from delivery door to storage past our table it was clear that much of your meal was going to be brought to you by McCains. Kind service but slow between order and placement on table. Credit to the server for not adding an extra fee to the bill because we split the main course and he added extra plates and cutlery. Food was okay but was hoping for a more interesting menu given the Alehouse vibe.

We had food from Ashburnham Ale House dropped off tonight by some good friends. We did not experience the restaurant itself, but the food was delicious. We had the shrimp pad Thai and gnocchi with smoked brisket. Id go right back in there and order both in a big hurry. I likely wouldnt choose brisket over chicken in most cases but this was so good that I cant wait tp have it again soon.

Considering we were a rowdy family group they were SO great with us. They allowed our dog on the patio and even brought him a snack and water. They were knowledgeable and friendly. Kids had a great time too. The Cheese Pot is to die for!!!

2 days ago a group of 15 of us completed the Peterborough-Lakefield cycle trip on the Rotary Greenway trail! On the way back we stopped in for lunch at 1:30 and although it was peak time at the pub they stepped up quickly and accomodated us without an advance reservation! Great food, great service and overall top notch experience! THANKS GUYS

Food is awesome and I would wager that the Ale House has some of the best service the city can offer. Every server Ive had has been knowledgeable, had a great attitude, and are super attentive, so kudos to the staff for doing such a great job. I also introduced my wife to this place on our very first date, so I like to think that helped get me get a second one Now she goes more than I do.

I wanted to try this place for a nice meal for my birthday. Were both new to the Kawartha lakes area so this was our first time there. The waitress was great, food was good but there were a lot of fruit flies which put us both off. Im not sure if it was just the table we were sat at but there were little fruit flies flying around that ruined the vibe. For the price we paid for the meal, we expected a nicer atmosphere.

I cant recommend this place enough. Went for dinner the other night, loved the ambiance, had fantastic service and the food was truly exceptional. I had the steak frites, perfectly cooked steak, decidedly delicious topped with chimichurri sauce and a nicely dressed arugula salad. My wife had the chorizo lasagna, it was cheesy and delicious. If you are looking for casual dining with great food and service, make your way here, you wont regret it.

The beef chili soup was good, though the fish and chips were a tad too oily. The restaurants ambiance was lovely, and the service stood out as excellent.

Cheese hotpot is a very adequate appetizer for 4. Peanut butter chocolate cheesecake is one of the best things youll ever have. Spanisg coffee was very much a dud, unfortunately: dessert coffees are clearly not their forte. Service attentive without being annoying. $125 for two drinks and dessert. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible. Staff very willing to help out.

My wife and I had lunch at eh Ashburnham Ale house yesterday and it was a great dining experience. Not only was the food excellent but the service....thank you Adam was suberb. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Ive been here many times before, and this visit was still good. Whats keeping me from a 5 Star review? The ribs. For additional context, this was an early lunch aprx 11:30am. Okay, so we ordered the Hot pot, excellent and plentiful, my wife had the club, which she stated was amazing. I ordered the side ribs as was told was fall off the bone, smoked in house... etc. I found the ribs dry, chewey, arguably comparable to being warmed up in the microwave. Personally, this is my fault. Why? Cause I went against my rule. This isnt a smoke house, not a steak house either. So I usually do NOT order these types of food in these places. But I did anyways and was disappointed. I did not complain, as while yes, my ribs were 2 Star at best, the rest of the experience was excellent as always. Fries were good, and I enjoy the curry Mayo that comes with it. Also, plentiful on fries. Service was very attentive, and I tipped accordingly for this as I believe to always do so when receiving excellent service. Parking: So parking could be slightly tricky as theres limited spots and rest are for Foodland. So depending on arrival time, spots to park in could be tricky. May have to find on street parking

Service and food were excellent

Chicken was great, ribs were ok, could be better. We had to leave early because we were smoked out by the fireplace. A waitress told us the same thing happened the day before. Not a pleasant experience Food : 4/5 |

Great food with friendly service and reasonable prices

Thank you AAH for hosting our family holiday gathering (12 people) last night. The service and the food were wonderful! We will be back. I always suggest your restaurant when friends are looking for a good meal in Peterborough.
