The Peterborough Diner remains as an historic 1950's Worcester Lunch Car Diner. Famous for being the first Worcester Lunch Car made with green and cream, the Peterborough Diner still embraces its historical character, while stepping up to the challenge of today's competition. Serving Breakfast & Lunch 7 Days a Week!
There aren't many classic diners left in the country like this, in contrast to the numerous chain restaurants. The owner and waitress were both incredibly pleasant and the Dutch Apple French Toast was one of the very best I've ever had. I ate the Sausage Gravy & Biscuits... the biscuits were definitely homemade and yummy. Pricing was fair. We will definitely be returning.
What we ordered was standard breakfast items. Things looked good and taste was OK, but of the two dishes for my husband and I, ordered at the same time and brought to the table at the same time, mine was cold while his was hot and steaming. Other than that it was a cute place.
This little diner in Peterborough New Hampshire surprised the heck out of us. It's hard to find good diners in Connecticut so we really wanted to check this one out. And we were very surprised and very happy when we left. The place is obviously a locals favorite as it was packed and even had a line and a wait outside. I actually cannot recall what I ordered so I have to look at my photos but everything was delicious and we would have went back a second time if we had time during our weekend getaway. I do remember that they're fresh Maple syrup was delicious and authentic.
Crunchy French toast was delicious!! Everyone enjoyed their food. Service and attentive and nice. It was serviced fast and hot. My omelette was tasty and cooked great. Home made sausage was great my husband said. 4 people total $55
Road trip to NH, stop st the diner for breakfast. Super simple. Bacon, eggs, and toast. A-maz-ing! Cooked perfectly, not even close to greasy, super fresh. Worth the trip! Service was good.
I hadn't been to this diner in years, and it's still great! We came in for lunch this past Saturday and we had some of the tastiest, hottest, freshest food ever. My partner loved his burger and my Reuben was perfection. So happy to see it made it through the pandemic. We will return again.
Wow! What a wonderful Diner! We stopped in for lunch when working in the area and are glad we did. Our waitress was attentive, kind and anticipated anything we needed. Food was delicious and well prepared. Loves the turkey club!
We tried this diner yesterday for lunch and had a great experience. The place itself is so cute and we enjoyed sitting outside in the lovely weather. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food was awesome! The hollandaise on my eggs benedict was delicious, and they put enough on it to be able to also dip the potatoes in it, as it should be. My husband also enjoyed his fried haddock, which had a nice crispy coating. We will be back for sure!
A Peterborough favorite of mine. When my husband and I were dating (back in the 80 s) he would take me here for breakfast. Its changed a little but still a favorite
People were awesome. Home fries were cold and no crunch at all. Scrambled eggs were slimy. Steak was awesome.
Just what you expect from a good diner. Great service, cozy atmosphere, good food and reasonable variety on the menu. Seating capacity indoors is not huge, so expect to wait at peak times in colder months.
We always have the best experience when we visit here, try the deep fried crunchy french toast it s soooooo good
Awesome classic diner in a fun setting- always great food and service! Highly recommend the Reuben!
We really enjoyed our breakfast in this little diner. The atmosphere is very cozy with great service.
Home-style food, friendly
The Peterborough Diner is the model for small town New England diners. Great food at a reasonable price accompanied by outstanding service. What more could you ask for?
5 stars across the board for the Peterborough Diner! Not only do we dine there but recently used them for a catering event. The food and the staff were amazing. Parking: Plenty of parking.
Great example of the old fashioned American Diner. Lots of different food options. Friendly, fast service. All inside an old railway car. Seating outside in nice weather as well.
Good old fashion diner with very good food
Kid-friendliness: Very casual, items on menu that kids enjoy Food
This diner is a gem. Super friendly and wonderful atmosphere and great traditional diner food. Highly recommend!!!
Love this old time diner experience. The wait staff was very friendly and my lunch was delicious. Looking forward to my next visit!!
Only had coffee and muffins there, but they were delicious .
Great place for local color and experience. Great service and food. Diner prices. Excellent
Excellent food
Waitress was extremely nice and the food was great. Had no wait when we arrived. I will return and I recommend.
Greatest diner around
The food was great, the coffee was hot but not burning, the service was fast helpful and very nice, and the booths were comfortable. I will definitely come again.
Great small local diner that serves a quick breakfast. Their food, service and prices are good. This place has an old fashioned dinner look to it. This is my second time here and both times were great experiences. This place was crowded both times but we were lucky to be seated right away and parking was easy.
Amazing historical family-owned diner! Easy parking, plenty of seating, and best breakfast ever! Try the French toast! The corned beef is made in-house.
Disappointed with the omelet I was served, the eggs are supposed to be light & fluffy. This was flat and somewhat overcooked. The restrooms need serious cleaning and updating. The service was great! They serve Coke, so thats a plus for me.
THE best diner and family in New Hampshire. Ask Melanie or any one of her phenomenal crew at P.D. about the time the Broadway cast of OUR TOWN came by. They served a HUGE group with plenty of kindness, warmth, and lots of attention. They made our entire trip. The French toast and Reubens are not to be missed. Along with the brownies, blueberry cobblers, and bread puddings. Melanie newly took over the spot, but it s a must see for anyone coming through Grover s Corners (and with lots of unique history of its own.) Dietary restrictions: Went above and beyond to accommodate.
The tuna melt along with the bread pudding(which to me is not easy to pull off) were immaculate. I see why this diner is already rated good.
Always good food and great service
First Time At This Quaint Family Diner. Food Was Amazing ..Large Portions... Service Was Great , Friendly and Accommodating Waitresses and Owners.. A Must Try When You Are in The Peterbough Area
The staff, food and atmosphere make it a favorite!!!
Servers bordered on rude. Very small portions and expensive. Will not go there again Food
Whats better than perfection? Stop in here for breakfast and find out. This place is PERFECT for a hearty, tasty, and affordable breakfast. The food was nothing short of spectacular and the staff was SO FRIENDLY! Makes me want to sell my house and move closer! Parking: Plenty of parking in the lot and street.
Awesome food, awesome service.. had with friends and family!!
This place is a hidden gem! The staff is exceptionally friendly. The breakfast was top notch! Plenty of parking.
The food was delicious
This is a great place. Great fresh food, decently priced, fast service and it was clean. Wicked clean. Super friendly staff. A must stop. Parking: Had no trouble finding a spot. I drive a 3/4 ton quad cab truck and parking was easy. Kid-friendliness: Super kid friendly. Food they will love.
Great diner! Had a good breakfast here, ordered pancakes and sausage and really enjoyed it. Fairly small place, and they were busy but found a place for us. Friendly service, and they were accommodating of my friends little boy who insisted on chicken tenders for breakfast!
Not from the area, stopped in for breakfast. Food was AMAZING. Our waitress was the sweetest lady! Thank you
Love coming here once in a while on a weekend morning with the husband. This is such a cute little diner in downtown Pboro. The staff is always friendly, food is your average diner food, but THEY HAVE A BATHROOM which is saying alot seeing as the book shop across only has a porta potty. 10/10 one of my favorite local diners.
The best breakfast place around. They have three best-of-NH awards on the wall and its the truth.
Awesome classic Diner with a cozy atmosphere and awesome food! Massive pancakes and their corn beef hash was definitely homemade with how tasty it was
Cool old rail car diner, great service and awesome food...I got the cornflake crusted French toast!!!
This Diner sits in downtown Peterborough NH. Its run out of an old fashioned train car. I love going here a couple times a month for a weekend breakfast. Service is usually good. Only time service was lacking a bit is when it was super busy. So it wasnt anything the waitress couldve done better. She is always fantastic. Limited seating, holds 40 or so customers. I love that the prices are low and reasonable. If you havent tried Peterborough Diner, you should. And you can even order a Baileys and coffee or even a mimosa to go with your meal. Parking: Parking is in the shared parking lot with Toadstool book store. There is also parking options curbside. Wheelchair accessibility: The front entrance has 4 to 5 cement steps leading to the entry. I have not noticed any other seperate entrance for wheelchair access.
Awesome.classic diner. Everything was outstanding.
Great diner experience. Very pleasant staff.
Nice friendly service, great food. Pleasant atmosphere, will eat here again for sure
Freezing cold if you sit near the door though.
Good food and reasonable prices.
Almost have a nice time when dining here.
We stopped on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the specials banana bread French toast, bacon cheese burger omlette, country fried steak, hash, and a side of country Gravy. Portions were just right full but not over stuffed, plates were cooked to perfection. Speedy service. Great staff. My Husband: 100% Hammer
This was a wonderful dining experience. The staff were amazing. The food was delicious. The cook was able to prepare poached eggs perfectly! I am looking forward to going back again soon!
5 out of 7 days you get a great meal. But they just got rid of the good cook. Now all the food has less flavor and doesnt seem cooked right. Wont be going back. Asked for sausage and can tell they fried it instead of cooking on grill.
The food is soo good and they have good service
Great local breakfast spot!! Highly recommend.
Beautiful dinning car!!
Love the old diners! We come here often. Good food, friendly service.
Great ol Diner! Love the food and the atmosphere!
Always amazing food. Service and staff is wonderful. Will always choose diner food over chain restaurants
Peterborough Diner at Peterborough NH is super cute in a super cute little Town and the food is very good .
Food is good. Very bust place and very often no place to sit. Waiting can be long
We can see why this is so popular. Friendly staff and great food! The service is quick too
Great lunch with my grandson. Fun time and first time for a Diner experience.
I ve been coming to the Peterborough Diner at least 1-2x per week for breakfast (and lunch several times) in the last year. I have never had a bad experience here. They always get my order right, no matter what I order. The food is always hot and fresh and the restaurant is kept clean. I ve been to other diners in these old dining cars and they often times rely on the dining car to draw people in for the experience , but miss on the food. That is not the case here. If you re not worried about calories, order the Country Fried Steak Eggs Benedict! It s delicious! But you will also need a mid-morning nap. They have delicious pancakes and french toast that you can t go wrong with. A decent kids menu, too. If you come in a lunch, you can t go wrong with the burger or the hot dogs (the chili cheese dogs are great, too).
Get the biscuits and gravy
Nice cozy restaurant to have breakfast
Very quaint little diner with a homey feel. Staff were very busy but seemed very polite and helpful. Stopped by for a quick coffee before driving back on the road, but ended up getting a few bites to eat. If you ever grew up in a small country town this diner gives that feeling of home-cooked country food. The restrooms however, were little tiny to maneuver around and since we were catching the last opened hour was not recently cleaned.
Our party had three people and our meals included eggs, toast, home fries, pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy. Coffee was decent, much better than what they serve at Nonnies, along with the service and atmosphere. The pancakes, eggs and toast were great. However the bacon was unbelievably salty, making me gag. Something about the sausage links was off. The biscuits and gravy were also loaded with salt and would be just fine with half the salt. Home fires were just...there, flavorless. Crazy, overly-salted staple food is a big let down, especially to start your day. I suspect their lunches may be better. However Id like to give this place another shot.
Peterborough diner is everything a diner should be! Do not forget to ask about the specials, soo good! Staff is friendly, attentive, and laid back. Food comes fast! Nice location near town activities and has outdoor seating as well.
Good food, food prices and friendly folks
Shiny omelet, weak coffee, and flies.
This was the first time we ate here, even though we have been to Peterborough many times. We are not into over priced fancy eateries and this is a low key, high volume food distribution diner. Anne had the Monte Carlo sandwich with meats and cheese on grilled bread and French fries for $11.50.I had the Chef Salad with lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sliced onions, thick sliced cucumbers, strips of ham, roast beef and chunks of chicken and eggs....with honey mustard dressing --- in all good size bowl and 3 pitta wedges that were baked --- best and very filling salad for $11.95 plus 2 cups of hot delicious coffee. They serve breakfast all day and lunch after 11:00 am and close at 2pm. Stop in and checkout an extensive menu with plenty of seating. W Next time we are in the area and hungry, this will be a good choice for us.
Great place to go. Got to meet the owner, very nice person and caring
Great diner! Food was really good.
Great diner because on top of very good food, the entire crew is outgoing and provides a good moral and some laughs! They are also very accommodating. A pleasant time all around! *11:40am means 1:00pm, dont forget
I bought a cup of coffee. But I normally take very large cups. So they gave me two cups at the same price. I think such things tell a lot about the staff and their willingness to serve clients. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Sometimes you will have to stay in long lines though to get inside. Parking: A lot of parking space on the backyard
I sit at the counter and they are super friendly. I always get the crunchy French toast. If you havent tried that, you should
Food came out quick and was priced right. Sever was very nice and attentive.
Always a favorite spot in Peterborough. Ive been visiting the diner for 40 years. Its the best breakfast spot in the area. Poached eggs are consistently perfect.
The place to go to get hash browns in New England. A great diner, especially if youre used to the greasy spoons out west.
Eggs Florentine is always good here
The waitstaff was very friendly, and attentive. Ordered a Mexican omelet, it was delicious. Party of four, everyone was pleased with the generous portions, prices, and service.
Terrific diner food. The experience is authentic for a real diner car resteraunt. We had Reubens and a root beer float. The food was hot, fresh and on point. We had a party of 5 and they made special concession to seat us with a chair on the end. Truly special. If you are in the area not many places world be better.
Good food! Order wasnt correct!
Great breakfast at very good prices. The booths have large dividers between them so very safe. Excellent, pleasant staff.
Best breakfast around! Great atmosphere and staff.
Very cool spot! Good, old time diner with counter service and high back wood booths. Good sandwiches and generous portions.
A classic gem, true diner breakfast experience. Eggs, hash browns and bacon were perfect, service was excellent.
Good food
Excellent breakfast for a great price
Great breakfast
Charming, fast service, takes Celiac disease seriously.
Food service and atmosphere are good. Cleanliness is always an issue at this type of place. They have done an average job keeping up.
Super small and quaint! Service was excellent and food was fantastic. Prices felt appropriate.
Fast, attentive service and yummy food
What do you do when you cant decide between chicken fried steak Benedict, biscuits and gravy or blueberry pancakes? Order all three, of course! Delicious, as always.
Great staff and food
Old fashion diner from the 50s we had a nice lunch. Brought our dog and sat outside in the shade.
Good food and service at affordable prices
Great local spot with best prices around. Also can t beat the coffee.
The food was fine buy they lost our order and we waited in the side dinning room for 30+ minutes until they figured it out. Luckily I had time to spare that day
Great food & great atmosphere in an authentic Worcester Lunch Car Company diner!
Good meal, sad home fries
Very nice place. Seating is limited which is understandable with diners like this. The food was good. My home fries were a little cold though for my Irish Benedict. The pancakes were amazing and big. So they will fill almost anyone up. The French toast was amazing and big as well. They also have a lunch menu but I didnt get to try it as of yet. I am looking forward to updating this review once I have.
Always a great meal Order was made perfectly and waitress was great too You wont be disappointed
Great classic diner- breakfast all day. We had some great pancakes with real syrup (ask for real instead of table) and a Denver omelet. They close a bit early- 2pm today so plan ahead. Located in Depot Square and there s tons of great shops to check out in walking distance. Toadstool Books is just across the parking lot
Delicious food especially sloppy Joe! ^_^
Kid-friendliness: They offered booster or high chair, both with seatbelts. Juice in a covered cup and straw. Just the right size. Friendly, helpful and efficient. Relaxing breakfast with a toddler. Who wouldnt like that?!
Some of the best food I ever had! I recommend the crunchy French toast!
Always good! Good food, great staff and awesome atmosphere!!
Cute little diner. Great food and friendly staff. Onion rings are a definite add on to lunches. Even at the busiest, staff is always upbeat.
The food and service were great. If youre there in the fall, dont miss out on the pumpkin pancakes!
Nice that it opens so early, usually busy, but the food is really good.
Love it. Wish it was bigger place, not enough sit, had to sit at the bar.
Great breakfast and lunch place
Good food. Good service. Bathroom needs work.
What a great atmosphere and excellent service and food!
Great service, excellent breakfast. Always stop for breakfast when Im in the area.
Classic diner. Friendly people, great food.
Delicious food. Service great
Always a great meal and great staff plus the old school stainless steel dinner is pretty cool.
The service was friendly and on top of everything without feeling overbearing. They were sweet, fun and recommended the best dishes for us that we thoroughly enjoyed. You need to try the crunchy french toast. This place is friendly fast and delicious.
Amazing food and staff
Soooo good, go here now!
Wonderful comfort food breakfast
Very good place
Waiting for ever
Awesome service
Great little dinner, with very friendly staff!
Always good and friendly staff.
Very good diner. Very friendly staff.
Wonderful old-school diner.
Great breakfast meals and very nice staff in this old school diner. A really nice spot.
Staff was friendly and service was quick. The crunchy french toast is a must for breakfast!
As green is the most restful and relaxing to the human eye. This picturesque diner at the heart of the show along the river at the triangle of right here and right now. Enjoy a little bit of everyday.
Great food! Great service!
Excellent food and service
Delicious breakfast in this awesome green diner! Quick, friendly service, cozy atmosphere, lovely outdoor landscaping, and outdoor dining. This place is a definite must!
Great sandwiches and pancakes.
Im happy I can say the food is as good as I remember as a teen. I used to walk here from ConVal high. Im happy they are still open and the food is still great. I got the Petes burger, which is a double burger. I also got a side of coleslaw and chocolate cream pie for dessert. The burger was the best Ive ever had at a diner. It tastes like a fresh homemade burger. The coleslaw was also fresh and crisp. And the crew pie was really good. Im always homing they will have the elusive homemade banana cream pie again. It was the best banana cream pie ever.
Chicken salad was good and large. Cheese burger was cooked as specified, the salad was good as was the apple pie. My only complaint: the Greek salad no longer has good Kalamata olives :-(
First visit in a long time, and our lunch was excellent. Im going to go back again.
Friendly staff, good service and delicious food.
Nice location and really good food
The good was very good s little pricey
Classic diner.
Good stuff, crusty French toast was great. Good service.
Just a lovely dinner in town. Good food, good service.
No outside food or drinks allowed (which is understandable), so we left our coffee in the bush outside for pickup after breakfast. The serving staff were attentive and kind. The food was out quick and tasted great. Only rec would be a wider hot sauce selection, though the tobasco sauce was fire
Good stop at Perborough Diner. Good food and kind service.
Outdoor and indoor seating available during COVID. Large portions, fries were cooked perfectly, burger was quite large. Steak and cheese sub was very large and tasty as well.
I love this place. They have the best breakfast ! Blueberry pancakes were great and the service is good.
Fantastic food and service. Great location and outdoor dining.
Great food!
This place is wonderful. The atmosphere and original diner layout floored me. Prices are right too!
Good food and friendly staff
Covid safe and nice to eat a great diner meal. I would recommend it to a friend. The price on the extras is a bit much.
Classic diner experience, great atmosphere and good people, 5 star.
Great service
Its like home cooked food without the cooking. Nice little diner. Couldnt believe how fast the service was. Ill definately be going back.
