Karma's Cafe in Peterborough

This is our favorite restaurant! Has ruined every other Tai restaurant for us.

It is a very rare experience to have a good Southeast Asian taste in this remote town. Although it is not Chinese food, it is very satisfying. Their chili sauce is very close to Chinese style

Nice and cozy environment. Expect super delicious food to be served on your table with excellent service. Defintely, a place you will wanna go back every now and then.

We accidentally discovered this spot in Peterborough and what a gem it is! It s a shame that we did a take out due to time crunch. The food is amazing - flavourful, fresh, balanced and tasty. Wouldn t mind the drive (over 150 kms) to go and dine at this place. Must try.

Only place in town thats truly authentic and Karma is a true jewel! Little bit of wait for food, because its LwYs cooked from scratch! Food : 5/5

Found ourselves in Peterborough on a breezy sunny Saturday. Walked the streets to Karma Cafe, which was recommended by one of the local shop owners Ordered pad thai and red curry. The pad thai was NOT traditional it was more like a korean noodle dish and would pass on this one. The red thai curry was excellent. Service was OK. Took a long time to get our food and there were only 3 tables. Others seated near by were eating the noodle soup. Maybe this is their sweet spot. We will try somewhere else next time.

Got the gluten free pad Thai and I m not sure if they forgot the sauce or something but the entire meal was really bland and felt like something was missing. Probably wouldn t come back here TBH

Nice spot for dinner

Wonderful local spot, great food and service.

We had made a reservation and got a great table by the window. We ordered Karmas appetizer platter. It had a little bit of everything. Very tasty. I ordered the Tibetan Beef as a main. It was very good with beef, potatoes, glass noodles, tomato, onions and a nice broth that went well with the rice. Just a hint of spice. A very enjoyable experience. The only complaint I have is the music. A track of what seemed like Bob Dylan on repeat. It was kind of annoying. But the food was excellent .

Great tasting Tibetan food (also Indian, Thai, etc. foods). The momos and Fingsha beef were delicious and filling. Service was good, the prices were reasonable. I am a very happy customer and will visit again. Food : 5/5 |

We had a lovely evening here. The staff were very competent and knowledgeable. The food was tasty and very creative. I have severe allergies to nuts and they were able to accommodate me 100% which never happens at an East Asian restaurant.

When I lived in Peterborough this was my favourite place to eat. I hadnt been back for 10 years and I never stopped thinking about the lime leaf noodles. When I finally returned last weekend I was not at all disappointed. They tasted just as good as I remember. I bought three extra orders to take back with me and share with my family .

A lovely cozy spot, with a cool story of a former Tibetan monk behind its founding! Had the butter tea - delicious.

Very delicious and excellent service.

Absolutely fantastic. I had the Noodles with Lime Leaves and my companions got various other dishes. Everything was top notch. Big flavour and an appropriate amount of spice. A little nose running, nothing too serious. The portions are huge. Don t challenge yourself to finish it like me, get the takeout container and split it in half. Decent atmosphere, the decor is nice.

My friend and I shared their sampler platter because we didnt know what to order and it was the right choice. Everything on it was delicious.

The food is fantastic here. Generous portions and excellent service. The only thing that would ve made our experience better would ve been a sun shelter on the west side for shade. Washrooms could use a little more TLC (cleaning wise).

Absolutely brutal experience. Food was spectacular, and yes I said that back to back. Two servers sat there during my entire stay with inane chatter over the music about their boyfriends, bands they like, how busy it was last night, jerk customers etc. the only time they shut up was when I left a zero $ tip, and then they whispered in the background. the owner should have a presence here or at least a manager, because the servers acted like they couldn t care less if the place went belly up or burnt down tomorrow.

The food is amazing and the service is the best and the blond haired waitress does a fantastic job at making people happy.

I purchased the Pad thai dish here, and I can assure you it is not authentic or close to what real Pad Thai taste like. It was overly salty from the soya sauce, and no sweetness it all. Ingredients seem to be cheap... but the dish is priced high.

The food was not bad, but not that good. Pad Thai didnt taste like Pad Thai, and everything else did not taste like what their names suggested. Service was less than adequate. The server took our orders and then disappeared until the bill. She was busy serving other tables but never seem to want to come to our table. Never brought the napkins we needed and didnt get a chance to order more drinks either. She didnt seem that friendly; just enough to not appear as rude. The other server seemed to be more pleasant and responsive, but unfortunately she did not serve our table. I guess its hit-and-miss for service here. We called to make a reservation but was told they dont take reservations. However, we noticed everyone that walked in was asked if they had a reservation. Not sure what the deal is at this place. Not my favourite restaurant, unfortunately.

The food at Karmas is ALWAYS Delicious. Our server this Evening was absolutely Darling. My only criticism is that $12. Is a little high for the Rice Pattie Appetizer. Food

Love their food and it never disappoints. It is hard to get someone to either answer the phone and/or return calls. Would have liked to know we would be on the patio before we came and the chairs could use a cushion! But dinner was awesome.

I watched Karmas episode on the Food Network where they came in for restaurant makeover many, many years ago. I remember I couldnt wait to check them out! Well they did not disappoint then or now!! The food is consistently fresh and delicious, leaving you feeling good. I recommend the Chicken satay!!

The food quality used to be great, but in my experience has declined in the last years, as has the service. Sat in a booth for 20 minutes before going up to the front to ask for a menu, when the server had been scrolling on their cellphone the entire time. Every time I go here I have to get up to refill my own water and pay, all of which is no problem, except for the fact that the expectations are different because its a sit-down restaurant. The servers have definitely become less attentive to the point where it might as well be a take-out place. 3 stars for the fact the food used to be great, and the physical atmosphere is lovely.

Great staff great food one of my favorite places

Karmas Cafe has a wonderfully cozy atmosphere with servers that are pleasant and patient. After sitting for longer than thirty minutes the seats tend to become very uncomfortable. The portion size of the food is over adequate but lacks the bold taste of flavor and spice. The green tea is something I definitely recommend as its served in a huge cup.

I went in as they were closing and the staff were so nice and welcoming and still served me a drink. Awesome place. So pretty in there too!

Really enjoyed the ambience. Food was excellent minus the weird butter chicken in a tortilla bowl...yuck. Everything else was great. Service was exemplary. We would return.

Really good food and service.

My friend and I went there recently for lunch. I was not all that impressed. The atmosphere is ok, but the food....at least what we ordered wasnt great. It didnt taste like authentic thai food. I ordered Karmas curry. It was meant to be a red Thai dish, but tasted more like stewed tomatoes with chicken. No coconut milk, and there was a severe lack of curry. My friend felt her food wasnt great either. In addition, we ordered a mixed appetizer platter. Some of which was ok, but the shrimp tasted off.....like fishy. Shrimp shouldnt taste like that. Then when I received the bill, for lunch....it was $132! Normally this wouldnt bother me, I knew what the meals cost when I ordered, but after eating and sampling a few items, it just wasnt worth the money. In short, I would not go back for seconds!

Fantastic atmosphere! A few menu favourites are the salad rolls, grilled shrimp salad, lime leaf noodles and basil noodles. I have never been disappointed here. Recently brought my best friend for her birthday and -no surprise- it was fabulous! Such good food that you can tell is made with love. Clean washrooms. City parking lot located just around the corner. Patio as well!

Super fresh, great tofu and veg options! Wouldnt have the biryani again but otherwise have liked everything Ive tried. Staff have been wonderful every time Ive been to Karmas.

Visited this place for dinner, service was great and food was delish! Good vegetarian options. We had the Nasi Goreng and the Thai Green Curry. The rice had a mild flavour which was balanced well with the sweet and spicy curry. Would recommend checking this place out!

Great location and good food

Great restaurant for Asian dishes in Peterborough. Ranging from a few Tibetan dishes to ones from India, Thailand and Indonesia. Dishes tried: Karma s platter - great to share as it has a few of each of the appetizers. Delicious bites! Especially the Tibetan beef momos (dumplings)! I highly recommend starting with this to share. Noodles with Lime Leaves and chicken - delicious red curry base (Thai), mildly spicy and good for the cold weather. Tibetan beef Fingsha - delicious stew but with an acquired flavour. A hint of sourness to the soup with sliced onions and tomatoes and thin slices of beef. I grew up eating similar Asian flavour so I thought it was good and reminiscent of home. Butter tea - very soothing creamy tea! Base is black tea with salt, butter and cream. Definitely worth a try! Surprisingly works quite well with the salt and butter. Overall a great restaurant to try.

I wasnt a big fan. We ordered the pad thai (and expected..well, pad thai flavours). When we tucked into our dish, it was super bland and didnt have any of the sweet, sour, and savoriness of a pad thai. When we asked the server about it, we were told that since the restaurant is a fusion of different cultures, it wouldnt taste like a conventional pad thai - maybe I missed that part of the menu

First time eating there. Great food, service was very good. What should have been a 90 minute lunch meeting turned into a 4 hour getting to know one another. Very comfortable setting.

worst place ever! i went there 3 times: 1) ordered pad thai- fake sauce..not enough chicken.. THAI EXPRESS serves better pad thai for half price 2) ordered bami shrimp noodles... got 6 shrimps..was salty instead of sweet 3) ordered thai basil noodles... got 4 shrimps..was sweet..sauce was red..no basil leaves... dont recommend wasting 20$ on each of these dishes. i went again thinking it would be better. sucks.

This restaurant is good, nothing to write home about. The food is good, the drinks are good, the service... not so much. A little overpriced for what it is.... but all in all.... its okay.

I prefer going there in the afternoon for lunch, because its usually not crowded. The food is some of the best that Peterborough has to offer, and the reason why its so incredibly busy on weekends.

Not sure if it was an off day for the kitchen or what but I was very disappointed. Service was slow, food was okay and to top it off I got food poisoning or reacted to something in the food! Unfortunately I dont see the hype and I wont be back.

FOOD -- Excellent -- Mint with Lime Leaves pasta..... trust me on this one. Food comes out HOT and I have never had a bad experience (been there over 10 times). SERVICE -- Not so great , but not horrible-- it is really busy at this place (for good reason) so I understand waiting for someone to greet you and take your order, but it can take a long time initially. Once you have your order, it doesnt take long for the food to be prepared. COST: with drinks and starters about $70.00 per couple with tip. Worth it. HELPFUL HINTS: Make a reservation no matter what day/time you plan to go.
