We never met any ownership related staff. Our name was posted on the door and room was assigned. No way to make changes even we booked the hotel early on. Our friends go with us. It looks like our room is together, yet, one is at the back. We have to drive back and forth to get both luggage load and unload. The hotel didn’t make it clear that they don’t provide meals, only breakfast can be purchased. They close at 2:00 pm. We didn’t know that so get back late and had hard time to find a place to eat. The cafe in this hotel is not really a cafe. Almost every thing they prepared are either frozen or ready to go style. It was cold, including the boiled eggs. They didn’t do a decent business. They just don’t prepare real food. Price is very high relative to the quality !

Despite the warm reception, clean place, and tasty breakfast, we will not be returning to this business that lacks compassion and empathy.||||We arrived Thursday May 30. The property outside and inside was immaculate. We were warmly welcomed by the young woman at the reception. We said we planned to hike Le Sentier de la Montagne Blanche and she was very generous with her suggestions also telling us that she knew the area well because she came here quite often from Saguenay to ski.||||I asked about having supper there, based on what we saw on the website. She said that supper was not available there for a year or two and they just took over ownership of the property and didn’t have the codes yet to update the website. She gave us a couple of helpful recommendations of where we could get food. They would be serving breakfast in the morning, though.||||We had room #11, which did not have an outside entrance. She did not know how we would access the inside of the building after hours. There were two keys attached to the oversized piece of wood for our room and we finally figured out all together that one of the keys worked for the back door.||||After purchasing a sandwich and fruit at the nearby grocery store, we enjoyed some TV while eating in the common area. We met no one else in the common area during the whole time we were there. The place is very beautiful, inside and out.||||The next morning, we appeared to be the first guests for breakfast, which was quite good. Other guests arrived as we left to do our hike. Le Sentier de la Montagne Blanche quickly became my second favourite hike in all of Québec, only after le Sentier Le Pioui et Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes and just before L’Acropole-des-Draveurs. I am looking forward to doing this hike at least once each year as my wife and I are looking to our retirements.||||Arriving back at the Auberge du Jardin, hot and sweaty and ready for a shower, we were unpleasantly surprised to find that a fire at the ski center near another village 10 minutes away caused a power outage. The same receptionist explained that the ski center and the village of Petit-Saguenay were on the same Hydro-Québec circuit, much to their dismay. It appeared that outings caused by the ski center had happened a number of times before. She did not seem empowered to be able to help us decide what to do. We found a hotel in Saguenay that had not lost electrical power and booked a night there. We could not check out as there was no electricity.||||A short while during our drive to Saguenay we receive a phone call from the Auberge du Jardin. The receptionist called to let us know that electricity had come back on. It seemed a bit strange to us, since we had just booked another hotel room for that night, and since it was less than 24 hours before check in, we couldn’t cancel it without penalty unless there were unforeseen circumstances. And besides, given the fire situation, there would be no guarantee that the power would even stay on at the Auberge du Jardin for the rest of the night.||||As Ralph Fiennes said in the movie The Menu, there are two types of people in the world, takers and givers. We met so many givers on our weekend to the area in Saguenay, in le parc national des Monts Valin (we plan to come back for the visit to la Valée des Fantômes!), in les Escoumins (we plan to visit Centre de découverte du milieu marin), and in Tadoussac (we plan to check out the Festival de la chanson de Tadoussac).||||However, we won’t be returning very soon to the Auberge du Jardin.||||Monday morning, I received a very unpleasant phone call from an older sounding woman delivering the bad news to me that they will be charging two nights to my credit card. She said that it was beyond their control and she had no choice but to charge me. I was very surprised and tried to explain how this was not the way to treat customers if they want repeat business. My voice got animated and she said that she was remaining calm. Yes, she did nothing wrong passing on the information to me. I felt no compassion from her for my situation and no possibility for trying to come up with a win-win solution, such as giving us a future free night’s stay and a second night at half price for the inconvenience, something that I could imagine other places who value customer loyalty might propose.||||Later that evening, I received an email showing a $517.55 charge to my credit card as well as a second email from the manager and co-owner explaining that the disagreeable situation was out of their control and that they were applying their cancellation policy.||||Later that night, at 12:30am not being able to sleep, I replied to the second email, my first ever communication with them in English and asked them to reverse the charge for the night we didn't stay with them.||||They replied, also in English for the first time “We did all of our best to deal with the unfortunate situation. I'm sorry, I can't do anything else to help you with this situation.”||||I feel no empathy from the co-owner who appears to be out of control and no compassion from their colleague who appears to have no choices. I feel violated, having them take money from my credit card for a second night stay which we did not have at their establishment.||||I write this review to warn potential clients and in hope that the delightful receptionist finds a job where she can feel empowered to do the right thing for her clients and the business, knowing that the team behind her will always have her back.

A real gem of a property in this area. Liked · If you are interested in a property with beautiful grounds, friendly, accommodating hosts and a great jumping off point to the hiking and other sites south of the Saguenay, this should be on your list. The entire facility is spotless and has been well maintained by the owners for their 20+ years of ownership. This is very much a family operation with the kind of flexibility not often found with large "chain" operations. While there's not a "restaurant" in the traditional sense, there is a nice space dedicated to dining with nice views. You can make arrangements for breakfast and or dinner on a day by day basis, which provided great flexibility. There are "menu" choices for both meals with a good variety that should work for anyone. Everything was prepared to order and very good.

Petit-Saguenay is lovely village, perfectly situated for visits to Saguenay Fjord, and Auberge du Jardin is an inviting country inn in the heart of this beautiful setting. The owners have taken loving care of the grounds and the inn, and are accommodating, welcoming hosts. They are hosts in the truest sense of the word, and their personal attention to their guests is what sets the inn apart and makes it special. As other reviewers have noted, the food in the restaurant is very good, the inn is clean and comfortable, and the grounds are beautiful.

This place is a hidden gem! If you're in the area to hike the Saguenay Fjord National Park, I would highly recommend staying here! My husband and I stayed here while doing some hiking in the park. The owners are lovely and very knowledgeable about the area and various travel routes. The rooms are clean, the breakfast is delicious and the garden is lush and green. The only issue we encountered was staying on the main floor. If you like to sleep past 6:30-7AM I would suggest asking for a room on the second floor as we were woken up each morning by the people above us walking (stomping) around and the floors are thin. Hence, the four stars.

We stayed here for one night, and found that it was idyllic in its setting. The room was spacious and comfortable, and we had no qualms. HOWEVER, despite a hospitable check in, we were not treated well. First, we were not sure how the room door locked, and kindly and patiently waited for assistance. To our dismay, we were met with frustration and an unkind response. Secondly, when we wanted to check out at 8, and were once again met with fraught looks. We were told that the owner was busy preparing for breakfast, and she was not friendly in wanting to assist us with a check out. After behaving very decently, with very few interactions, and also considering the price of the accommodation, I did not leave we did not have a very pleasant stay. When working in the hospitality industry, it is important to treat all guests, regardless of their origin and ethnicity in a professional manner.

This place is a delight! Not only is the setting beautiful the Auberge itself is spacious and very comfortable. Michel and Marie-Jose are very happy to assist in whatever you want to know or do, and also respectful of your space. The meals are lovely and plentiful. My wife and I delighted in practicing our 'poor French' with them and they were so kind in helping us. This place is well worth the stop, plenty to do and see in close vicinity.

Quietly located hotel, despite road 170 passing in front. A large garden at the foot of the cliffs and parking spaces. Establishment taken over a few months ago by a young, friendly and smiling couple, who wish to modify and beautify the place and increase the service offering. So, as it stands, interior from the 1980s. Clean overall, spacious room (we were upstairs), insulation (sound and thermal) to be reviewed, bathroom piping and ventilation a little too noisy Partially self-managed hotel: no one when we arrived, people in the morning at breakfast. Restaurant on site closed for the moment, difficult to find dinner without traveling miles (20 minutes). A little troubleshooting across the way. Good breakfast served from 8:00 a.m. So in the end, did the job : we had a good stay. Some work and improvements could make it great. Rooms: Interior from the 1980s. Clean, spacious room (we were upstairs), insulation (sound and thermal) to be reviewed, bathroom plumbing and ventilation a little too noisy.

Passing for one night, we found the inn very friendly. Room and common areas in their original state but very clean and charming. The large common areas with books and games available create a very warm atmosphere. The surroundings of the buildings are magnificent! Independent arrival but very attentive staff in the morning for a breakfast (to be paid extra in our case) at the really excellent café. Rooms: Everything is very clean and everything you need is there, relaxed atmosphere and decoration not very modern but it has its charm! Food and drinks: Really excellent breakfast at the cafe with very kind and attentive staff. I recommend the café for a stopover on the road even without sleeping there. The terrace must be nice in the summer too. We park right next to it, no reason not to stop

Independent reception at the hostel but it is done very well. Good value for money. Clean room. The must was their lunch. We are removing a star because of the dated side which could use a little change and brightness.

Nice tourist trap for my part, worst experience ever!!! On the booking site it said Saguenay we found ourselves at the Petit Saguenay 1 hour from the city center I start we arrive at the place at 7:00 p.m. everything is closed no one to receive restaurant close everything in the inn is closed ridiculous we arrive at our room we are hungry after 5 hours of driving the room what can we say a real shame the bed not making the trash filled to the edge of the other person before us in the bath without a towel.. 7:20 p.m. we are hungry false leave at 55 min drive to find a restaurant pcq the restaurant of the inn is closed when setais closes at 9:00 p.m. we go to eat and have a drink we return to the inn at midnight:30 and there we meet the famous owner who welcomes us with a cooler area hello the scythe I tell you you left the television on we had two complaints we ok sorry we are going into the room the TV is at 6!!!! We pay $500 for 2 days!! The rooms are supposed to be isolated, they are marked in the description as worse than the TV has 6!!! Its barely 5 minutes we have just returned to the room one of the owner with his cooler air is almost rude comes to tell us to turn off our TV and that there is curfew at 10pm!! Sorry, I pay $500 to be told that when I come to Sagenuay for vacation!! not in a military camp me and my girlfriend terrorizing each other saying my god I shouldnt take a bath or even flush the toilet the next morning when we wake up we open the door loud music in the corridor my in the room we couldnt even hear this music was yesterday on my a6 tv!!! We were really disturbing it as a tourist trap paying $500 and we werent even able to enjoy a PCQ evening we were afraid of disturbing and of being stared at by the owners of the place really atrocious to have spent $500!!!!!

Independent reception without any upstream communication from the owners. It appears that there has been a change of ownership which has modified certain services but the site is not updated. So we arrive thinking we can eat there but there is no more catering in the evening, so we find ourselves at the convenience store buying something for a picnic.. once again, a lack of communication on the part of the owners! Noisy room with poor sound insulation: you can hear the neighbors talking and the passage of water in the pipes. In addition, it is very hot because there is no air conditioning in the standard rooms but a fan is present but ineffective because it is impossible to adjust the speed. Finally, asking the customer to leave the bathroom light on so that the ventilation runs in our absence is an aberration these days. Work to modernize the rooms would be wiser! The check out is carried out without questioning our feelings about this stay. We are a long way from the warm welcome of Canadians. Of the 6 accommodations during our stay in Canada, it is the only one that we will not recommend.

Recent change of ownership so quite a change from previous comments. Hostel still very well located, 20 minutes from Anse St Jean, with a superb exterior and relaxing common areas. Similar room. However, for breakfast, it is now a menu with a choice of dish and a filter coffee included with the room. There is no more restaurant in the evening so you have to go out to eat. Warm welcome and the girls were very accommodating. We arrived in the middle of the bend festival, so there was a lot of activity in the area!

Magnifique auberge, nous avons été agréablement surpris avec la vue depuis le jardin exceptionnelle qui donnait sur des falaises. Jolie location dans le petit village du Petit-Saguenay aussi.

Everything is clean, neat and beautiful. The hostess, Marie is super friendly and welcoming, her husband works in the kitchen and the breakfast is amazing. I guess they are not good at polishing their bedroom photos because the real look is 3 times better than the posted photos. We are already thinking about when to come back. I do not want to leave.

This hostel seemed very good to us at first contact. We had the luxury room designed for 4 people. In fact, it consisted of a double bed + a very uncomfortable sofa bed. The supposedly warm welcome quickly turned out to be very unpleasant. We took the menu at the hostel as it looked very tempting although a little expensive. This meal was really very disappointing in quality and quantity, and not at all worth the asking price. Hostel not recommended.
