Allwyn's Pickering location doles out delicious and budget-friendly Caribbean eats. Serving quality Jamaican cuisine, including jerk chicken, oxtail, curry, roti, patties and much more.
September 23, 2024 ⭐️⭐️ I visited ALLWYN'S for the first time, excited to try their beef patties, as it seemed like a new spot in the area. Unfortunately, this was one of my least favorite experiences for beef patties. The patty wasn’t filled properly, and the crust was hard, almost as if it wasn’t fresh. I’m used to Allan’s Pastry Shop in Scarborough, where the patties are always delicious and satisfying, so my expectations were high. Sadly, ALLWYN'S didn’t meet them this time.
Date/Time of visit: September 23 around 7p. First visit to Pickering location. The guy working was friendly and efficient. Ordered 4 spicy beef patties. They came straight out of the oven piping hot which was perfect, however I found it to be slightly under seasoned and not spicy. If they have extra spicy, I'll try next time. Very bright and clean restaurant with seating of table and chairs. **cash or debit only**
The stuffed sandwich was sooo delicious. I’m coming back for more. The jerk chicken was flavorful and paired perfectly with the coleslaw, patty and coco bread. 10/10
This place is a W! If I could, I would give this place 10 stars - I’m amazed and can’t rave about their food enough. Firstly, the owners and servers they were absolutely amazing! Warm atmosphere - check! Their jerk chicken sandwich was the biggest win for me tonight! It’s easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve had since I moved here. It was loaded with chicken, had a crunchy patty and fresh coleslaw. And because we’re foodies, my friends and I also ordered their jerk wings, plantain and jerk chicken on rice and devoured all of that…Their portions are huge and their flavours are authentic. All in all, we were beyond happy after our dining experience here. Can’t wait to be back to try something new. Alwyns goes ALL IN!
Tried this food chain for the first time today for lunch. I ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich and heard good reviews so I decided to try it out myself. It was one of the best Jerk Chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. Good flavour, juicy and the meat was tender. The coleslaw added a nice sweetness to it. My preference but I wish it was a bit spicier. I heard their spicy beef patties were delicious so I got one as well. I was very disappointed when i seen my beef patty. It was hard like a rock and very over baked. I’m not sure if it happened in the back when they took it out the oven or if the temperature of the warmer was too high. But nonetheless I didn’t end up finishing the beef patty.
Family friendly, some food does have some mild heat, plan accordingly if bringing/getting food for young kids. We got a Jerk Chicken and a combo box of Curry Goat and Oxtail, all with rice and peas and coleslaw. The jerk chicken is boneless, flavour was decent, heat was mild, but it doesn't have that smoky char that I'm used to when I get jerk chicken. The oxtail and curry goat were fork tender, and not spicy, my 3yr old was able to enjoy some. The coleslaw was not as sweet as I'm used to, but it was still a refreshing crunch. Seating is very limited, but we were able to snag one of the tables.
I finally made it to Allwyn's in Pickering to try their Jamaican food! They have six locations across the GTA and this one, I believe, is the newest. I had their Curry Goat, while my friends had the Jerk Chicken, and a combo of Curry Goat and Oxtail, all with Rice and Peas and Coleslaw. The curry goat was flavourful. So was the oxtail. Interestingly, the chicken was boneless. I really liked their creamy coleslaw and their hot sauce had a very nice flavour. On my way out, I got a small order of Curry Chicken, and an order of their Beef Pumpkin Soup for dinner that day. Both were generous servings of tasty goodness! Overall, it was pretty good.
Much needed new spot in Pickering. Have probably tried almost everything on the menu except for the sandwiches. All pretty good. Pattys are normal size here. Spicy beef is my fave. Wish there were more types. Curry goat patty would be nice. jerk wings can only be ordered on the weekends but they are very tasty.
Just stopped in for the first time. Got a jerk chicken sandwich. 10/10 for taste. Portion. Everything.
Top notch Jamaican. Nothing disappoints
Food is great. Staff are friendly.
I used to love this place. I say used to because I have a limited ability to enjoy restaurant food. My food tolerance sucks to say the least. I knew I could always enjoy a chicken curry roti. It always tastes good, but the last three times I picked up their food it upset my system. Why three times you ask? I just wanted to make sure I wasnt wrong. Now I know. Without going into detail, such upset to my system only happens when I eat food that is not fresh. So you can do the math.
Had the stuffed sandwich and it was extremely delicious and flavourful. The customer service was amazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good authentic Caribbean eats!
Literally the best Fast food Jamaican food, I ve had in a really long time. Their patties are fresh and delicious and their chicken roti to die for. Highly highly recommend Food
Patties are good. The guy who works the counter is miserable and not hospitable. Not sure if he realizes he works in the hospitality industry. It seems like he hates his life. What a Weirdo. The young lady who works the counter is pleasant enough.
Went for takeout. The patti sandwich is unbelievably good. Also ordered a chicken curry but it was lacking in flavor. Their jerk chicken is probably the best in the area.
Really wish they had a dine in experience Parking: Plenty plaza parking Food : 5/5 |
Their Uber eats app is a complete scam! They think advertising jerk chicken meal buy one get one free then having the single(1) jerk chicken meal for $30 outside that promotion is insane. My Caribbean people, you think $30 for one jerk chicken meal is right? Do yourself a favour and don t let these people price gouge you, go to yardies for quality food!
Absolutely love Allwyns & will make the trip even though it s not close to me! Disappointed that they don t have bbq chicken at this location but everything else is still amazing!
The jerk pork sandwich with oxfain gravy and pepper tail was delicious
The sandwich I had was fantastic
Vegetarian options: Veggies wrapped roti! Delicious Food
Food is top shelf. I discovered this place a couple months ago and Ive been here at least once a week. Curry goat with rice and peas are my go-to but the jerk sandwich is incredible as well. Even the coleslaw is amazing, Ill order it as a side sometimes. I read that some people were complaining about the lack of friendly service and while youre not going to be greeted with smiles and cheerful welcomes, they do their job well. Usually when I do takeout its not because I want to make friends.
I ordered the mixed meal oxtail and curry chicken over rice and peas. I was not impressed at all. The oxtail was chewy. The curry chicken was just average was told it was put on a large container but anywhere else. The same container is either a small or medium beef patty was actually pretty good, and so was the coleslaw service was mediocre don t know maybe they are more known for their sandwiches I probably wouldn t return
Theres not much to say except their patties and the stuffed sandwich are my go-to orders on my way back to Montreal. Especially the fact that they are the only patty spot opened on Sundays.
Very bland no flavour
Beef patties pretty bomb.. Their jerk chicken sandwich def aint among the best but overall good place.
Just ordered for the first time. It was great and affordable
Good guys but long wait
This place has a bomb jerk chicken. I also tried the stuffed sandwich which was super flavourful. Will definitely go again !
First, when I walk in, (nice enough, cozy feel) I noticed a bunch of teenagers from the local high school hanging out and the people running the place appear to be, what I would guess as Asians. (possibly pinoy more on that later) I ordered the jerk chicken. It had no flavour and a mealy texture to the skin. For me, the outer skin of jerk chicken needs to have a nice dark, slightly crispy, bark to it. The meat was boneless, which might be a bonus for some, but this is where I believe the real flavor of meat comes through. Plus, there s nothing quite like eating jerk chicken and spitting the bones out. Also, jerk chicken needs to have a kick! It doesn t have to be killer spicy, but you need to feel the presence of that wonderful scotch bonnet heat. Unfortunately, their jerk chicken had no semblance of spice of any kind, let alone hot peppers (which lends to the pinoy background theory). The rice and peas were drier than coconut husk. I had oxtail gravy added to the rice which had the consistency of soya sauce and the flavour of mud water. The food actually wasn t the worst part. The guy serving couldn t be more miserable or less hospitable. Maybe his pet hamster died? For such a young guy he had a masterful scowl across his face and barely grunted when he spoke. Either way, he probably shouldn t be in the service industry. The lady who was filling up the beef patties (probably the mother?) was nice and greeted me with a kind smile and hello while she went about her business (they should probably switch roles). Not sure where all the high praise reviews are coming from, but I would not recommend Allwyn s for food or service. There s a much more authentic choice right across the street at Sunrise. Every time I go there are several patrons of Caribbean descent waiting to be served, which says a lot.
I have been here a while. These guys maintain a well oiled machine. Portion sizes you may thing some ways but imo they offer the most protein per unit, most flavour, most consistent. These guys run this joint very well. It s blessed. The comment below I feel bad about the beef patty I do. I literally just bought 1 and it was amazing, flaky crispy and flavourful. I am almost certain that beef patty was an anomaly as these guys run a top notch carribean spot! Keep it up guys!
I ordered the half jerk chicken and jerk wings party tray. - Staff was very friendly and had it ready for my scheduled time. All the guests loved the spice and even took some for leftovers. Recommended dishes
Ive loved Allwyns since the beginning. Glad they opened up a location in pickering. Food taste as good as ir always has. I love the jerk chicken, jerk pork** and oxtail is always proper.
Hands down best Jerk chicken in Toronto. Allwyns has multiple locations across the city with the new one opened recently in Pickering. Chicken and pork are always fresh. Roti and Oxtail are both killer. Their stuffed sandwiches (patty, jerk chicken, coleslaw on Coco bread) is insane! Order from here, highly recommend it!
Jerk Chicken Sandwich is a 10/10
This is the best of the BEST jerk chicken in the whole world. This place was in Scarborough and when we found out they opened one here we were so happy. I hate coleslaw it has always disgusted me. But when I had thiers I fell in love. Mixing coleslaw with some chicken and rice in one bit taste like heaven. Yes the Jerk Chicken can be spicy but thats what I use the rice and coleslaw for to mix in every bit I take of the chicken. But heads up if you get the jerk chicken dinner make sure you get the ox tail sauce on top the rice its bomb. So recommend this place 1000% x more.
Tuesday, January 10th, 2023, standing in my Kitchen at 36 years old, an immigrant from Trinidad (who s mother and grandmother made fried plantains and roti all the time when I was growing up), can honestly say that I had the BEST fried plantains in my entire LIFE, from Allwyn s Pickering. I ve been going to the Underhill location my whole life. But Pickering took me back home in a single bite! I highly recommend anyone to try anything from there. Also the best rice and peas ever!!!! It goes amazing with their oxtail!
From east end, we drive all the way to downtown just to get allwynes. So happy they opened up a store in the area. And this is just simply the best Jerk chicken and stuffed sandwich. The patties is a must try as well!
Wonderful food choices! And very reasonable prices. Definitely a go-to place in Pickering!
THIS PLACE WAS NOT UP TO STANDARDS DONT COME HERE IF JAMAICAN!! I came here for the Popular stuffed patty with coco bread only to be deceived the only thing good about this was coco bread which was store bought and packaged at the side of the cashier the meat was cold not even warmed i asked for it spicy and it wasn t even mild, that patty it self didn t even hold a candle to store bought pattie s that are way better. When i walked in there were no Black jamaican ppl working there only asians that could be jamaican without an accent. DONT MAKE MY MISTAKE IF YOU ORDER JAMAICAN FOOD MAKE SURE THE ORDERING FROM AUTHENTIC BLACK JAMAICAN PPL WITH AN ACCENT !!!!
Tasty food, had a nice fragrance with the addition of some of cilantro . nice and fresh soft roti. Service times maybe could be improved with better order flow but its a small shop so I forgive it. Will be visiting again.
I am so happy this place exists. Food is amazing, portion and pricing are good. It always hit the spot for me. The roti are delicious
The stuffed sandwich is perfect!
Tried the jerk chicken stuffed sandwich and oxtail with rice and peas. Overall the food was fresh and good quality but I agree with a lot of the other reviews. This is not real carribean food, its the right idea but not nearly enough spices. This is perfect for people who cant handle spicy carribean food. Also the portion was small for like 18$ only 6 peices of oxtail, 90% bone
Ordered 3 Jerk Chicken Sandwiches and a Vegetarian Roti. Expected the food to be good because of the North York Location, but the Jerk Chicken lacked flavor and the Vegetarian Roti was overpowered by tumeric. Vegetarian options: Vegetable Roti
Great service and bomb food
I recently visited Allwyns Jamaican Restaurant & Bakery and was thoroughly impressed with the food. The highlight of my meal was the delicious coco bread, which was soft and fluffy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. The patties were packed with flavor and the jerk chicken was cooked to perfection with the right balance of heat and spices. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Jamaican cuisine!
amazing customer service!!
Still have a lot of items to try but the ones Ive tasted are absolutely delicious. Every item Ive experienced was always fresh. Great pepper sauce. Always prefer giving my money to places like these rather than chains. Cant go wrong stopping by here for some good authentic Caribbean food.
(Ajax Location) Got the jerk stuffed patty. Chicken was tender and flavorful. Not bad. A bit over priced. $9 for a Patty is pretty wild. Patty was on the dryer side. Scarborough and the west end of Toronto still hold the crown for best west Indian/carribbean cuisine. Ill just stick to the usual spots I guess.
Food hit or miss. The real issue ordered skip here twice. Charging for fork 75 cents unheard of. Should i eat with my hands? Small portions and no pepper sauce even when written in instructions. You from the Caribbean right? who dont use pepper sauce to eat. Food too dry want to pay for extra sauce to, will get a container with oil leftover juice. Lord do better. Too many jerk place out there. The search continues.
Not quite sure what the rave is about this place. Jerk chicken and rice (very small portion) runs you a price tag close to $13.00. The chicken is entirely burned at the skin level and lacked flavor. Peel off the skin if you dont want charcoal in your mouth then you have plain pieces of chicken thigh. Same story for the coleslaw - which is usually hard to mess up - lacked flavor. Beef patty was something youd get anywhere. Torontos #1 jerk chicken? Not if Im voting. First and last visit.
One of my fav jerk chicken with rice and peas places!! Service is great, portions are good, and chicken is boneless!! I ve used them a couple of times for catering get togethers and it s been a hit!
Pretty good spot. Jerk chicken on rice was lacking sauce...rice felt dry. Not super spicy but good flavour. Patties were spot on. Would come again.
Just purchased a large rice & peas jerk chicken. There were about 8 peas in the rice which was tasteless. It appeared that the rice and peas were cooked separately and then mixed togather. The jerk chicken was laced with salt with little flavour. Dissappointing and wont be back.
One of the best food spots in Pickering especially if you don t want to spend a lot, the ambience is quaint. The stuffed sandwich is only 9 dollars after tax! Make sure you bring cash or a debit card !!
We tried the jerk chicken and jerk pork sandwiches, the meats were really moist and spice and salt levels was perfect for the coco bread!
Absolutely amazing it s super flavourful and delicious I got the stuffed jerk chicken sandwich with a chicken patty and it was sooo good packed with flavour I will definitely be coming here again
The food is pretty blessed here, I recommend.
Good food and good service, you gotta stop by here if you re in the area!
Friendly service and authentic dishes!
Great customer service and food 10/10 come try their stuffed beef Pattie s
The Jerk chicken is incredible. Great flavour and well cooked. Rotis are pretty great too. Best Rotis in town!
Amazing!!
I ve been eating Allwyns in Toronto for years and the Pickering location is the same genuine food as the other locations. Always bomb.
Pictures of food on Uber Eats are misleading.
Fantastic! Food and staff are always great! Glad we found this place.
Ive only been here a handful of times, but its quickly becoming my go-to spot for a quick bite at lunch. Their stuffed sandwich is absolute perfection! Seriously, you gotta try this sandwich. Everyone in the world deserves to try and eat a sandwich that tastes this great. Ask for it spicy. It hits your taste buds on so many levels. Ive tried a few other items from their menu for dinner before, but nothing quite hits the mark the way their stuffed sandwich does. Stick to the sandwich. You will not be disappointed!!!
Food is good. Staff could be a bit more friendly. Im all cheerful and nice and they just stare at me deadpan like I murdered their family
Tried the stuff jerk chicken sandwich. I ve never been to Allwyn s before but I knew I needed to try this and it didn t disappoint. They put a good portion of chicken inside. Everything tested fresh.
The best in pickering thats for sure and if your worried about your child not liking the spice or its to hot its carribean food what are you expecting just keep babying your kids to be spoiled like you go make them dinner yourself!!!
Not sure if I got a bad batch but this was not it. Got the jerk chicken with rice and peas. Rice was bland, the jerk chicken had an off after taste, coleslaw hit tho. It is what it is.
Only had the patties, but DAMN, they are delicious! Best Jamaican patty Ive ever had. Highly recommend.
I ve had their jerk chicken sandwich before they are really good, then today decided to grab dinner after long hours of work i got oxtail with rice and peas, jerk chicken sandwich, chicken curry, chicken curry roti, patty on coco bread and beef patty and damn everything is really good they gave you a good portion, the only thing that i m complaining is i wish staffs are bit more friendly too serious they don t smile at you thats why i had this negative vibe inside the store but like i said we like the food and definitely will be back but pls next time try to smile you ll get a happy customers.
So happy there s a Pickering location! Food tastes the way I remembered it from childhood. Highly recommend everyone tries what they re known for at least once: 1. Stuff sandwich (Patty, jerk meat, slaw in coco bread) and 2. Jerk Chicken.
Some of the best jerk chicken in the GTA, would come back from Australia just for it
The portion of serving is very small almost no meat. Not worth it for small size $14.00. Never coming back to this location.
Not good at all. No flavor
Just had lunch there today. Stuffed chicken patty with jerk chicken, coleslaw, cocobread, pineapple grace soda. Bussin! Watching the funny encounter between the old brown lady and old Asian lady working the counter was worth more than the food. Coming back for the pork and wings.
no halal option rather ridiculous
Really good jerk pork sandwiches.
Great meal and very fast service as they have everything on a hot table. Definitely ask for the hot sauce if you like heat. I normally get the Jerk Chicken on Rice and Peas with extra sauce. Never disappointed yet. Would highly recommend.
very clean, good portion size, had jerk chicken only. Not very authentic, good place for new people looking to try different food.
Food was incredible. Every last detail was taken into consideration and made special.
Very friendly, speedy service!
Ive been here a few times. The jerk chicken and jerk chicken wings are slightly over salted BUT, their curry rotis are very good. Also their patties and soup are phenomenal.
Was in the area so I popped into Allwyn s for some Jerk Chicken and rice. Portion were big but wish the chicken had a bit more flavour. Over all was good.
Came here for take out - lunch and was welcomed by the nicest and friendliest staff members. I tried the jerk chicken sandwich, rice and the beef patty and was honestly the best I have ever had. Prices are affordable and honestly worth every penny. 10/10 will come back and recommend to all my friends and family. Thank you for such amazing food Allwyn s pickering
Food and service was great. The jerk chicken was super flavourful and had a nice little kick. 100% would come back again
The beef Patties are really good and you can tell they re freshly baked. I have also tried the jerk chicken with rice which is really tender chicken and a pretty good helping.
This is the first time ever ordering from Allwyn s. Had a couple relatives drop in for a visit so decided to order takeout from Allwyn s Pickering location partly from seeing the overall google review rating of 4.3 and reading glowing reviews on the Durham Eats fb group page. We ordered jerk pork, curry chicken, oxtail, rice and peas, a chicken roti and a side of fried plantain. Sadly not one out of the 5 of us who ate that evening had a 4.3 rating eating experience. Let s begin with the positives. The fried plantain was sweet and tender. The oxtail was tender. The person at the cash was pleasant. Not so positives: The individual pieces of plantain were very small and greasy. The curry chicken was bland and was more potatoes than chicken. Also we ve eaten and cooked curry chicken (Jamaican born) and this is the first time any of us have ever seen red kidney beans as a curry chicken ingredient. We thought it weird. The jerk pork was ok. Not much jerk flavour, not enough smoke and overall bland and boring. The oxtail was passable as the meat was the tender and fell off the bones but again there is just something missing in flavour. The chicken roti was a huge disappointment. It might as well have been curry potato with a garnish of chicken. 2 small pieces of chicken amongst a barrage of potatoes and roti skin. It was also very dry and boring and again smatterings of red kidney beans and chickpeas. No juiciness to it at all. The meals included coleslaw which was placed on top of the meal on the left side of the container. It therefore mixed flavours with the meats making things messy and 3 out of the 5 people are not coleslaw eaters. A suggestion is to serve the coleslaw on the side similar to how yardies and beryls present their side of coleslaw. Anyhow an overall rating of 2 stars is generous and in part because the cashier was pleasant. So sad.
I can see why this place is critically acclaimed! Pricing was very fair, service was quick and the food was both creative and delicious. Meat was practically falling off the bone, and the coco bread sandwich with a Jamaican patty in the middle was a unique twist, I loved it!
Great place for jerk chicken and patties in pickering. Tired of frozen patties? these are fresh made crispy meat treats. Nice amount of heat flavourful filling. I loved the crunch when I bit into it. Not overly spicy. Jerk chicken super moist and flavourful. A few other items are in the small menu such as oxtail soups wings etc I recently tried to stuffed sandwich which is a coco bread with a patty and jerk chicken and coke slams stuffed together. Was a hefty meal full of flavour. Wish they provided hot sauce to kick up the heat. Overall great experience. It s take out only and only accepts cash and debit. I bought a box of patty s for a later date and will throughly enjoy. Great got try for a quick take out meal.
Ive been to most of their other locations and they are very good. My bf and I both got the oxtail dinners and 2 beef patties. The patties were delicious. The portions are huge. They definitely dont skimp on that. The coleslaw is tasty, and so is their plantain, but unfortunately thats where it stops. The oxtail was hard and had no taste. We will come back and try something different next time.
Night their chicken soup today and jobesoorher than the slight pepper I tasted the over all taste was of a can soup and not 1 dumpling. Wasn t impressed. I ve had the jerk pork and found it very dry but might have been that batch I m not sure. But todays soup would not have me coming back to attemp another sorry.
Underhill location has better tasting food. Meat is good and rice is really dry and bland should of ask for a lot of sauce
This places has insanely good jerk chicken !! Iv had jerk chicken all over even in Jamaica and this has to top all of them ! And don t get me started on the stuffed jerk chicken sandwich And fair prices to boot ! Worked around the corner for 3 month and been there basically every day !! Highly suggest giving it a try
I savoured a jerk chicken stuffed sandwich from Allwyns, and it left me thoroughly content. This has now become my go-to spot for jerk chicken.
Tried their jerk chicken sandwich and it was good but you know whats better?? Their stuffed jerk chicken sandwich Highly recommend.
Always consistently good, never a bad meal.
I had the goat curry roti and it was delicious. The meat was perfectly tender, the roti was very fresh. The portion size was huge and very generous with meat. Will be coming back to try more things on the menu.
If you have not had the PLEASURE of eating here, IMO, you are missing out on the best place in Durham to get some extraordinarily good Caribbean food. I have finally run the gauntlet on the menu pretty much, and nothing but great tasting food so far folks. The Stuffed Sandwich has become my fav, (with jerk chicken) and for the prices, you wont be disappointed. Not expensive, not cheap...fair for the food offered and thats what were al looking for. Give it a try!
However the atmosphere is welcoming the food is autrociously stale. Like no one wants to throw out dated or day before food. Lets mix old rice and peas with new rice or frozen and warm up rice, no food here to waste. They will persuade you that its fresh, I am a foodie, a connersuer of food, a blue seal sous chef (US) and you best believe that food is STALE, NOT FRESH. So .
Best spot for patties and jerk chicken sandwiches. I used to go to the one in Toronto all the time. Glad to see that theyve branched out to Pickering!
Loved it
Best in the business. So happy for them. I ve been going to allwyn s for about 25 years now (since parkwoods) . So happy there s a location by my place now! ooo ya food is great as always!
Hands down the best jerk in Toronto! I ve been a long time customer at the Underhill location and to finally have one here close by to work is a dream come true. The jerk pork sandwich is a must try here
Allwyns is legendary. I go downtown just for Allwyns so I am VERY GLAD they are in Pickering ! HIGHLY recommend the Stuffed Sandwich (patty + coco-bread + coleslaw + jerk chicken) - one of a kind! Also, if you like spice, ask for the green hot sauce, its AMAZING! Love Allwyns and I will be back soon!
So good!! Excited to see there s a location in Pickering now!!
Food is great!! So happy they opened a Pickering location. The Stuffed Sandwich is so good, definitely recommend!
Been going here over 20 years. Great to see in Pickering
Bless up. That chicken and oxtail are BANGING
Great chicken wings, but sold out of coco buns and patties when I came
I had been on the lookout for a neighbourhood Caribbean spot and decided to try Allwyn s. The beef patties were amazing and even better than the ones I ve had downtown. I d also recommend the jerk wings and coleslaw. The staff were also very lovely and courteous, even though it was super busy in the store. Definitely will be returning here!
The meats were delicious, jerk chicken well spiced, oxtail dropping off the bone. For us the rice and peas could have been more seasoned, as well as the coleslaw. We liked the fact that they have different meal sizes (small and large). They were very busy, probably due to the recent Star article, so may need more staff to handle the crowds, unless this was the Friday night crowds.
New location just open up at pickering . Nice clean shop with great staff out there.. Came here for a takeout...so good I forgot to take pictures lol ...will be back for good
Amazing food
Jerk chicken is bomb. Rich is a funny dude. They need to get Peanut Punch though
Disclaimer... this is your PSA!!! The food is delicious and consistent everytime. This visit was a large Jerk Chicken dinner with oxtail gravy, a stuffed patty and a dozen patties for lunches etc. Allwyns never disappoints. Addiction is highly likely.
The chicken roti wasnt my favourite but thats purely personal preference. My husband loved his jerk chicken sandwich and we both loved the beef patties... Well definitely be back for more of those (and could definitely eat several in a sitting)! We came in at lunch on a weekend and just managed to beat a rush of people who came in after us, so plan accordingly if youre coming in to place and pick up an order.
On my drive home this afternoon, I went in for a quick snack (Pickering location). I bought two beef patties with coco bread for $9.27. While the patties were spicy and good, they were nothing special... tasted like ones that I could get from a supermarket. The coco bread was bland and also on the dry side. Perhaps, there are better items on the menu, but Im not running back to try. Edit: In response to owners response, it was my first time trying coco bread. The person at cash was upselling it when I was just ordering two beef patties for a quick snack. I asked what is coco bread and was told that its sweet and made with coconut milk. That sounded nice, so I said sure. In retrospect, the person at cash did point to a picture on the wall that looked like a patty sandwich made with the coco bread and coleslaw. I agree that the latter likely wouldve made things better (less dry) but it wasnt offered/suggested, and I didnt know to ask. Well, now I know. Nonetheless, the coco bread was still dry and bland... patties are like the ones you can get from the supermarket. Perhaps, one day, Ill give their specialty jerk chicken a try.
Excellent service and food. Gets busy at times and busy is always a good sign for a new business in the area. Patties and main dishes are excellent
Just as great as original location! My fav jerk place in all of the GTA
Highly recommend the stuffed sandwich. Simply delicious!
Was first time visiting the family-run joint. The jerk chicken sandwich and combo was definitely one of the best to try paired with their homemade hot sauce (if you enjoy spicy food like me)! Definitely coming back for more. Highly recommend. overall great service by the super friendly staff! (Food was so good, forgot to let my camera eat first)
Great food for a quick and satisfying bite, definitely a must try.
Very disappointed with the size of a small jerk chicken with rice n peas and coleslaw. Smallest amount of chicken ever. If this was a lunch special for $5 then it would make sense. This meal is not worth it for $10.45. Giving 3 stars because of the tiny portion for such a high price. Chicken was good and rice was fresh. I hope they see this and either make this size a lunch special or add more chicken to the small meal. Bad first impression but I guess It s my fault for not ordering the jerk chicken sandwich (assuming they put more chicken in the sandwich than the meal with rice.)
Patties are quick and tasty, better places close by for more authentic meals though..
One of the best jerk chicken I have tried. The chicken is well marinated and you can feel the spicy kick to it. Highly recommend.
Not my favourite Caribbean restaurant in Pickering for jerk (that honour goes to the one and only mr delicious) but the patties really were above and beyond what I expected. Good spice and a delicious and flaky pastry. Yummmy.
So good. Just like the old man used to make on York Mills back in the day
Stuffed sandwich was perfection
The food is excellent. We had a vegetable roti and a jerk chicken roti. However the service needs some fine tuning. No greeting when we walked in and the server seemed unhappy. My friend wanted to leave but we stayed despite the attitude. Would give 5 stars rating for a smile.
The food is so good and the service is even better.
This is the best Allwyn s location! I ve had the same sandwich at the other locations but it didn t live up to the hype. The stuffed jerk chicken sandwich is easily the best out of all locations. The shop is also brand new and very clean. The employees are very nice as well. I can see myself getting addicted to this place.
Tried the jerk chicken...nice succulent and spicy
Ordered the large chicken and pork dinners. Both items were very salty and meats didn t taste fresh - it was chewy and dry. Rice and peas and coleslaw were just like any other Caribbean place.
First time at the Pickering location and it is just as good if not better than the other locations. Customer service was quick and the staff was super friendly. I got the jerk pork sandwich and asked for oxtail gravy and pepper sauce.
I actually ordered this food off Uber eats and the experience was so good I decided to make a review. I ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and the jerk chicken meal. Starting with the sandwich I gotta say I m impressed. The coco bread was so soft and the sandwich was filled was filled with tender pieces and a very tasty coleslaw. I have to give kudos to them because they didn t go light on the filling either. Every bite you d be able to taste both the chicken and the slaw. It was also well packaged. Now the jerk chicken meal. I waited till the day after to eat this and this was what made me write this review. I ve NEVER tasted a left over meal that was still as good as when it s just cooked. The rice cooked perfectly and SAUCED. I was shocked honestly it s the attention to detail. The chicken still tender and juicy with the right amount of spice. Job well done. I will definitely come back all the time to try everything else.
Finally decided to try this place after a lot of great feedback from friends and family. This place was very clean, friendly staff, very welcoming place. Ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and it was soooooo good! Very moist and flavourful, not dry at all. I could have easily eaten 3 or 4. Next time I want to try the jerk chicken and rice and the ox tail. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone who s debating trying.
Jerk chicken sandwich is so bomb
customer service was ok but jerk was nothing hype. Jerk was boneless and food is overpriced and not really authentic. I got the smallest container of jerk and it was a bit under $10. Thought is wouldve tasted better. Maybe Ill buy a patty from them if Im in the area but I wont waste my money exploring their menu again. They cant mess that up? If they do, change the name Allcrap instead.
Best roti I ever ate. Well spiced with all the right condiments inside. The shell is a proper west Indian bread with layers and crushed chickpea. I opted for the chicken curry roti, but the jerk chicken would be just as delicious. I plan to return many times.
Prob the best jerk spot in Durham. I come all the way from Oshawa to get it. The stuffed sandwich and jerk pork are the best. It has a nice spice to it. They even got good specialty canned drinks that are hard to find. Definitely one of the best local food spots in the area. Highly recommend.
Jerk chicken sandwich/ stuffed sandwich must tries!!!
I had the stuffed beef patty sandwich and the jerk chicken meal. The stuffed beef patty was definitely better than the jerk chicken meal. The patty was crisp and the filling was spicy. The coco bread was soft and tasty and was stuffed with jerk chicken. I also requested to have pepper sauce added to the sandwich. The jerk chicken meal was mediocre, lacked flavour and the gravy was extremely watered down.
Love this place! I was a regular at the original Allwyn s so I was pumped to see them open in Pickering. Their sandwiches and wings are fantastic!
Great jerk chicken
You have to try their jerk patty . Best jerk chicken in Toronto and now durham !!
Delicious pattys!!
My family and I accidently came across this place on our travels and decided to try it. The resturant it self was clean and the service was good. Unforunately the food it self didnt meet our standards. The food altogether was bland. Rice had no flavour, chicken was okay at best and to top it off we ordered a small curry chicken and only got one piece of chicken. Our family is from the carribean and was hoping for a good Carribean/ Jamacian food spot to eat instead of all the junk food surrounding us. The sign Torontos best jerk chicken is really misleading. Maybe the other locations are better but this resturant just wasnt it.
Best jerk chicken in Durham.
Person employed to serve clearly needs full training on service industry. She ignored me and another customer while she was on phone, looked up at us and went right back to doing whatever it was. I was first in shop and the customer behind me left, I really should have too. I however spent my money in a place where the person in shop did not deserve to even hold my money and transfer it to the register. Never going there again, so that was first and last.
Visited today just after they opened and ordered jerk pork. Took it home and let me tell you this food is fire!!! Not only that but the portions are more than fair. Im hooked, looking to have them do some catering for me too! Well done Allwyns!
I like that it feels old-school simple traditional feeling like the patty shops I had in the late 90 -2000 Era. and such yummy food.
Im surprised by the positive reviews, maybe Ill try something different. Rice and peas came with kidney beans instead of pidgeon peas. The hotness was fine but the other spices were lackluster. The goat curry was fine. The large portion is best described as medium, though it is fairly priced for medium, just the naming is off. Overall it was a disappointment.
We were looking for some Caribbean takeout on a Friday night. This place has multiple locations. There was a lineup once you enter and there are a few small tables for people who want to eat. Most of the customers were takeout. We ordered the Jerk chicken and jerk pork dinner. The jerk chicken and pork is baked in house. The dinner consists of rice and beans coleslaw and freshly sliced jerk chicken and pork. At first glance you would think the meat is dry but once you bite into all the flavours start to pop. Its no wonder Allwyns got multiple locations as the quality is in each and every bite. There are jerk wings available Wednesday to Sunday. $5.99 Soup specials from Tuesday to Sunday. Theres jerk chicken sandwiches and beef patty with coco bread. Jerk chicken, curry chicken, curry goat and veggie roti options are available as well. Compared to other local Caribbean restaurants the prices are very reasonable and affordable. You might get a slighly smaller portion but this dinner still had leftovers when I was done. If youre looking for some delicious Caribbean food at a good price then give this place a try. Parking: Large plaza with parking spots scattered.
Love stopping by this place whenever I get the chance! The stuffed beef patty (spicy) is one of my favourites, along with the jerk chicken meal. Good food, amazing customer service, definitely recommend.
Take out only Jamaican restaurant with a number of locations in the gta. Ive only ordered the large Jerk Chicken dinner. Good sized portion and quality chicken. Maybe not the tastiest jerk Ive had, but still very good. The patties are also pretty tasty.
Jerk chicken here is good, 1st time here and I ll definitely be back.
Amazing food . Their stuffed patty s are bomb ! The curry goat is Amazing! Great location . Definitely in my top 5 takeout spots.
