Been coming to this place for the better part of a decade. The food is almost amazing, portions are fantastic, and the service is like no other. We generally do take out, but dining in is always just as good. The lovely people that own it, provide nothing other than top tier service, which does not go unnoticed and by anyone I have encountered here. Definitely worth the try if you are craving fish & chips! P.S. Definitely grab a gravy to make their outstanding fries that much better!

Ive been to Jaspers a few times, but Ive always done take out, but this time, I decided to dine in with my wife. We were greeted as we entered the door and seated right away. Our waiter was a funny, lively and overall wonderful person who really did a great job serving us. We ordered a little bit of everything including fries, haddock, halibut, scallops, shrimp, coleslaw and gravy. It came out fresh and fast, but most importantly, it was delicious. The last time I dined in for fish and chips was at the halibut house and I found the food there so oily and greasy. At Jaspers, the batter was light, tasty and the portion was huge. It was a little pricey, but because the quality of the food was high, I felt there was value for money. I would definitely recommend Jaspers and I am looking forward to going back there again. Also, I found it incredible that they know most of their customers by name and things about them. Truly remarkable.

Went to Jaspers today and the owner voluntarily disclosed that the oil they use is beef oil, rendering the food impermissible for those on Halal diets. We tried this place a couple years ago (not knowing about the oil) and the food was absolutely scrumptious. Our go-to used to be the fried Haddock and fried Halibut. Im writing this review today because of their honesty. Not many business owners have this quality in todays day and age.

Waited in line today(Good Friday) for an hour which I was fine with. The cashier charged me for 3 pc fish and 2 chips with a gravy. He wrote the order down wrong. Once I got my order home to my hungry family. After waiting another hour. It was a complete disaster, we received 2 fish, 1 chip and a black pudding. I m not going to bother and go back to complain, just to wait. I ve been going to jaspers for years but this will be the last time. I m sorry I tipped the staff.

We ordered the Haddock & Chips. Dine in service is excellent, place is clean and ambience is decent. The fish was fresh, moist with a flaky batter, not too greasy and portion sizes are great. Fries are good too. Fish could use a little more seasoning. Overall a great experience and will be our local go to spot for fish & chips.

Been here a few times. Food is always good. Portion sizes are more than adequate. The staff are friendly and efficient. When I dropped my fork, the server appeared quickly with a replacement before I even had to ask. Seafood isnt cheap to start with but here you definitely get value for your dollar.

Amazing fish and chips!The batter is perfect, you can tell it s one of those that s just been perfected over the years. I can t explain it , but batter is unique crispy and light. The place is also decorated with unique tea towels from different countries, which makes the place looks charming. Apparently some were given by customers that got collected over the years. Finally, the customer service is excellent! The staff took good care of us and were very positive and approachable. These days hard to find places with good food and very friendly staff, Jasper fish and chips excels.

Great batter. Closer to tempura. The crunch plus the melt in your mouth type batter. Serving good enough for two! Friendly staff. Cool laidback atmosphere. Check photos of food and vibe from others and you know this place is a hit! This place has been around for awhile for a reason.

It had been a long day at work and after arriving back in Pickering so late, neither of us had the strength to cook. We decided to stop by Jasper. We didnt realize the restaurant had closed at 7pm. We arrived after 7pm and peered into the restaurant from outside. The owner saw us looking desperate outside and let us in. He graciously prepared an order of fish and chips for us when it looked like they had already begun cleaning up. The meal did not disappoint. We know now to double check the hours before heading over but were so grateful to the owner for allowing us to enjoy a delicious meal that evening.

Best Fish and Chips in Pickering. A small dine-in area as well as take-out. I always get the Haddock, but the Halibut is great as well. Generous portions. It should also be noted that Jasper is run by the nicest people. They make you feel like youre more than just a customer. Something thats missing at a lot of restaurants you go to nowadays.

What can I say about an excellent Fish and Chips place where I have been a customer for 30plus years? Their products are excellent, their menu is good and their chips are the best ! The walls inside are lined with Tea Towels from customers who have traveled around the world. They have stopped accepting more because, according to Ben, they have SO many. Why not call in advance for a takeout order? Thats what I have done many times and then you can walk right past the line, when there is one. Dining in works for me sometimes too, but honestly, I prefer taking it home. After a few minutes on a paper towel in the toaster oven, a bit of oil comes off in the warm up process. Among many others, we LOVE Jaspers. Vegetarian options: Dont know. Parking: Lots, right out front and behind the paint store. Kid-friendliness: Sure.

We ordered two different kinds of fish, both were too oily and they were not breaded well, it was peeling off in crumbles. We didnt like their coleslaw either and they didnt offer tartar sauce which is a must for us for fish and chips.

Great food amazing

Im not sure if it was simply a mistake, but when we went a few months ago, we saw the line up and thought it would be good. However, once we got out fish and chips, it was very dry and plain and we could not finish it. Only later on did I learn that you need a sauce called the tartar sauce, because that adds all of the flavour and actually makes it taste good. Im not sure if they purposefully did not give it to us or simply forgot to, but if you are willing to try eating at this place, then make sure to check for the sauce. The place itself was somewhat small but had a few seating areas. It was decorated using London themed images which were not too bad.

Great fish, incredibly fresh and ridiculously delicious. Generous portions, and they gave tons of condiments. The owners are extremely courteous, friendly and overall very genuine and nice. Cool little decoration setup in there also!! Definitely all around a great experience.

The young staff servers were great and owners were friendly and the diner was reminiscent of a U.K spot. The fish was good, the coleslaw was tiny and not very good. Tartar sauce did not come automatically with the food. Compared to some great fish and chip places Ive tried, I found the food underwhelming.

I just had the halibut and chips their and it was proper! Perfect batter nice fresh cut fries and at a reasonable price. The staff were friendly as well. I also loved the use of the souvenir tea towels on the wall. I will be back. Food

First time I dined at Jasper Fish & Chips today. Family-run business. Super clean eatery! The interior decoration is nice and unique. The owner and his wife are very friendly. And most importantly, the Fish & Chips (Haddock) was delicious! Next time, Ill try their shrimp dish and coleslaw. Highly recommended.

This was on my list since moving to Pickering and finally had it for dinner tonight. Kind service, amazing portions. Got 2 Halibut with fries , gravy and coleslaw. More then enough as we ended up sharing one portion of fries. Everything was great and batter isnt too oily like some places. Perfectly done will come back. Cute atmosphere inside.

Excellent fish & chips! We had the haddock and 1/2 chips and the portions were huge. The fish was nice and buttery, cooked perfectly. The batter was nice and light. The fries were good too. Even my husband enjoyed the meal and he is NOT a fish person.

Best fish & chips I ve ever had. Tried this for the first time 15 years ago and it s still just as good today!

The portions are huge, and the fish is battered just enough to not overwhelm the fish. The one downside is the the coleslaw isnt creamy, but the vinegar base helps cut through the grease of the fish. The one downside is that with the amount of fish they deep-fry, the fish starts tasting a bit like fry oil (but I suspect this is the same for most if not all places). We went on a Sunday at 530 and it wasnt busy. 10-15inutes to order and get food.

Best fish and chips in the GTA. Friendly staff, quality ingredients and taste with huge portions. It was my first time trying this place. I called in my order which was hot and ready for the time I requested. Got a loving family feel from the staff and was even greeted by name. Picked up a few dinners for dad and I who is a picky eater and even he said this is really good! Craving fish and chips - You will not go wrong with this place.

Certainly my favourite fish and chips place. Anywhere. Fish is always good and tastes fresh. Always get a decent sized piece of fish and certainly more than enough chips. And the batter is crisp and a nice flavour. I get the sense that the oil he fries it in is always fresh and clean. And the pop is cold. Ice cold. cause the pop has to be ice cold with fish and chips.

Best fish in Pickering

It was my first time ordering from Jaspers and it was some of the best fish and chips Ive ever had. I had read other reviews online and decided to give it a try for my moms birthday. The portions are very big. I ordered 5 pieces of halibut and a large order of chips. There were extra pieces of fish in the box.. Probably around 8 pieces. The batter to fish ratio was perfect. The chips fed the 4 of us and there were still alot left over. Coleslaw and mushy peas were also good. Definitely give the shrimp and scallops a try as well! The gentleman working there was extremely friendly and very honest with what I should buy. He brought my order to my car as well even though it was busy. Great experience and even better food. Ill be going back here on the regular.

Another L for Pickering. This is probably the worst fish and chips/fries i ever had. Extremely under seasoned. But gives a hand full of vinegar and tartar sauce. Its a unique resteraunt that you dont see often with that kind of charm, would be nice to sit in. But honestly the food is awful. I have no idea who are these humans giving 5/5. Oh and the fries ultra soggy. No crisp what so ever. Again extremely bland.

In speaking with a friend she suggested Jasper and she was absolutely correct about this place. The flavor of the Fish is delicious and chips you can is fresh not frozen. Tried this place for the first time this week after reading rave reviews. The food did not disappoint! The portions for the halibut and 1/2 chips were huge and they were cooked to perfection. Both the oil and batter were light, and not soggy. Unlike other chain restaurants where you have to dig through batter to get to the fish, I got a good hunk of fish in my first bite! The family-run restaurant was decorated with cute banners which kept the ambiance in tune with what I d expect for fish and chips. I ordered take out but may try dining in next time they were super friendly and service was great even for take out.

High quality fish and good sized portions for the price. Very generous with the condiments! It is a huge plus for me. I hate it when establishments are cheap with ketchup/tartar sauce, etc. It makes me feel like there really is no hospitality and that they don appreciate your business. Very friendly customer service. We ordered later in the afternoon not realizing that they were closing soon due to modified hours for COVID19 quarantine. They stayed open for us and were very friendly. No bad attitude for making them wait to go home. The lady (I believe she was the mom?) was delightful. So much personality. The only thing that could be improved (and this is minor) is if they are their own-housetartar sauce. My family will absolutely be coming back.

Got a fish and chips very disappointed paid $19for a tiny peice and small box of fries no drink no gravy what a rip off diffently wont go back

The fish was good, I enjoyed it. Fries were okay, could have been done longer, they were not cooked enough. Customer service was very good, super friendly. The packaged tartar sauce is extremely disappointing for a place that is literally about fish and chips (and they charge you for extras, though to me getting a few of what they call extras was just enough for my big piece of fish ) Id give it 3.5 stars.

Love this place, have been coming here for atleast 10 years. It s best fish and chips I ve had. The staff and owners are so wonderful and has been the same from the beginning. It s pricy but so worth it the halibut is so flaky and tender and the coating is delicious. You can just never go wrong their order of halibut and chips.

I drove by this place yesterday because my wife was getting her nails done next door. I saw this massive lineup of people trying to get in to this fish and chip place that looked like a typical old style fish-and-chips location.... nothing special. Today, I was in the area again and I decided to try the fish and chip place to find out what the hype was. So I will explain to you what I found out. The hype is that yes, the fish tasted good but... you get twice as thick of a fish that any other fish and chip place. So you get a piece of fish thats double thickness size of any other fish and chip place i have ever been to I weigh 240 pounds. Im 5 10 and 1 piece of fish filled me. The fresh cut fries are delicious by the way Readers that are reading my review... its worth the trip at least once !! However, I recommend you get the best fish which is the halibut. The customer service and friendliness could be a little better.

Dropped by this tiny fish and chips shop in thr heart of Pickering. We had the halibut with half chips. Wow, thin crispy batter but a big cm THICK piece of fish - about twice the thickness of most fish and chips places. Even half fries was generous in portion. Overall great value for money. Friendly service, good covid protocols.

The best fish and chips around! We travel from Oshawa just to eat there! I have been eating at Jaspers since I was a child and they had a location in Whitby! I usually get an order of halibut and chips with a side of gravy. This is enough to fill me up! Many fish and chips places give you only a small piece and too many fries. Happy to say Jaspers gives you enough FISH to satisfy you.

Absolutely delicious

I heard from a friend this place was good for fish and chips. I went by and bought the deep fried scallops, halibut with half chips and coleslaw. In a nutshell, I was not impressed. They are quite pricey for the quality of food I received. The scallops were extremely oily (you see the oil come out of it when you even lightly squeeze it). It was breaded oddly, the breading wasnt attached to the actual scallop for the most part and fell off the scallop in the box. I think it was just very very oily. I would rate it 2/5. The halibut was a large portion, very meaty and dense and kind of chewy. I dont know if thats how its supposed to be. A little tough to cut into. Maybe because I ate it about 15 minutes after the scallops. The fries were kind of stale and were the chunky dry kind and were overcooked/lightly burned. The coleslaw was very very vinegary and came in a styrofoam drinking cup. The guy told me it was the vinegar kind and not the creamy kind but boy was it vinegary. I couldnt finish it because it was too sour. The inside of the restaurant is colorful with lots to look at, but doesnt have much seating areas. Like of run down and cheap looking but some might view it as part of its charm? In all honesty, I was dissapointed that it didnt meet my expectation as Im a huge fish and chips fan. If I go by again, it would be at a friends request and I will post an update to my review then. Overall 2.5 to 3 out of 5.
