My family of 10 and I are regulars at this restaurant mainly because of the food, the efficiency and friendliness of the servers and the fairly calm atmosphere. Tonight was a major disappointment due to the complete lack of service, the lack of flow to the meal due to that and the long wait times between courses because our server disappeared and almost needed to be prompted to take our orders. The restaurant was not busy and our waitress appeared to only have one other table. It was almost as if she was hiding as we actually had to ask for her and look for her. We ordered our drinks and appetizers first but she did not ask about ordering our main course at the time. It wasn’t until we finished our starters that we started looking for her because she did not come back for us to order our mains so they would be ready when we finished the appetizers. It’s a good thing our group is very accommodating and laid back because we didn’t finish dinner for almost 3 hours. She was kind enough to bring us dessert plates, forks and a lighter for the birthday cake we brought but then disappeared again. The dishes were never cleared and we were trying to eat dessert on a table full of dirty dishes from both our appetizers and dinners. We were totally unimpressed. We had a reservation so there is no excuse for assigning our table to someone who was not able to deal with that number. And we go out often enough that it’s usually a very straightforward ordering process. I tipped the lowest possible amount because I had to whereas I would normally tip 25%. I hope you take this review seriously and speak to this young lady, ( about late twenties, thirty, long blond hair - still don’t know her name because she never introduced herself) about your expectations for level of service and communication and provide her with mentorship or you will start losing customers.
Ifty was the best server! We had a Retirees group of 20 and everyone's order was on point and everyone had a wonderful time.
Candice our server was very friendly and attentive and gave us great service! Food was very good and was served in a very timely manner.
Service was good and it wasn’t busy when we arrived. I booked for 4 people and requested booth was fulfilled. The coffee was fresh but wish there’s more than 1 staff in the morning as one gets overwhelming, I had to flag her twice to get a coffee refill.. not her mistake just plan Staffing better. We all ordered Lobster benny and although it was good I wish there’s more of the lobster meat. The benny came with a choice of either tater or salad, wish it was both on the menu like other restaurants we go to. Overall it’s really a pleasant experience. We will be back.
We dropped in here for lunch. We didn’t have a reservation. This is the nicest Pickle Barrel we’ve ever been to. There is lots of seating, booths, comfortable chairs, high ceilings, artistic light fixtures. There is a beautiful flower mural on one wall and an abstract mural on another wall. The hostess seated us at a booth. The menu used to be a book back in the day with way too many options but now the menu is a normal size menu with less options but still enough. My husband ordered the hot beef with fries $20 and I ordered a tuna melt with fries $19. They both came on a bun. The hot beef was more stacked. The server brought us a plate of pickles at the beginning to go with sandwiches. She brought a butter knife and it was hard to cut the sandwiches. We made a mess of cutting out sandwiches in half. I did ask for a steak knife afterwards. The tuna melt could have been between bread instead of a bun. I liked the music. It was a good mixture of songs. It’s worth a try.
Love pickle barrel. Too bad they closed the restaurant in Markville mall. The southwest chicken Cesar salad wasn't on their menu but they still made for me, NICE. My wife got the tuna salad or something and said that it's good. Our server was really good. She kept coming and asking how we are doing or need something. It was happy hour when we got there so It's not busy.
We had a great time celebrating a birthday dinner at Pickle Barrel. With a large party, our waitress was attentive and very friendly. The food, however, was not that great. I tried the smothered chicken with side shrimp. The chicken breast was slightly burnt, and the shrimp lacked seasoning. Although service and presentation was top notch, I wasn't impressed with my meal.
Update (Dec 2024): Kid's menu changed, salmon option is no longer offered, most items are $10.99-11.99. Service was almost non-existent. Our server took our order and came to check on us immediately after our food was dropped off, I didn' even get a bite in yet. Unfortunately, that was the one and only time we checked up on. We sat for a long time after we were finished eating before attempting to flag down our server. When he finally made his way to our table, we asked for the bill, and he asked what we wanted for our daughter's kids meal dessert, a choice of cookie or sundae. After dropping off the cookie and a box for my daughter's half burger left over, our server proceeded to take care of a large table that was celebrating a birthday, bringing out cake. However, he then continued to do other things, including making drinks for other diners, all while we were waiting for our bill. Even at the end, he never asked how our food or experience was, which did have issues, as my chicken cutlet was quite burnt. For a $100 simple meal for 2+kid, I expected better service than this. Food: The butternut squash soup of the day was odd with a heavy sprinkle of nutmeg. The caesar salad was dressed well and at a good portion. The mac and cheese poppers were tasty, but only 3 pieces. My chicken parmesan flavour was decent, unfortunately 1/3 of my chicken was quite burnt and very off-putting. My daughter got the burger Kid's meal, she enjoyed it. Original review: A good menu variety! Family friendly with a separate kids menu. Kids menu is ordered in 4 steps: beverage, main, side, and dessert. Most of the mains were $9.99 with the exception of the teriyaki salmon which was $13.99. It has a good variety suitable for brunch/lunch and dinner. We got the salmon with caesar salad side, a milk, and the chocolate sundae for our daughter, all her picks. The salmon was slightly overdone for my standards but the portion was huge, not a half portion, and much appreciated, especially as it's from the kid's meal. The teriyaki sauce came on the same and was immediately spilled/poured everywhere by excited little fingers. My daughter (3yo) even had to take home half the salmon and almost all the salad. Of course, she had room for half her sundae. It was served in a bowl about 3inches diameter but it was so shallow that everytime she scooped, ice cream would fall over the edge. It was a messy eat but a good value meal overall. Mains: 3.5/5: My husband tried the Pesto Feta Sirloin, cooked medium rare, and came with a side of beans. He added sauteed mushrooms and upgraded the potato side to loaded mashed potato. The cook was good, but the pesto sauce took away from the natural flavour of the meat instead of complement it. 5/5: I got the Lobster and Shrimp Linguine with white wine garlic cream sauce. It was cooked well, flavour was fantastic and there were large morsels of lobster and visible and unbroken claw meat. The shrimps were large and had that fresh, crisp bite. Starters: 5/5 shrimp and salad; 2/5 cream of broccoli Our steak and pasta dishes came with a starter, choice of soup, caesar, or mixed greens. We got a caesar and cream of broccoli. The caesar was well made, but the soup was disappointing. It tasted more like cream of mixed veggies, almost completely without any hint of broccoli, and heavy on potato or cornstarch to thicken. We also got a Coconut Crusted Shrimp, and confirmed the sweet Thai chili dipping sauce came on the side so our daughter could try it. It was crispy and sweet from the coconut, we all enjoyed! Service: 3.5/5 We arrived at 7pm and there were quite a number of other patrons including a large party table. The server was courteous, but service was slow. Each table appears to only have a set of 2 tableware, so when the food came my husband needed to wait to ask for another fork as my daughter was already eating. We also asked for extra napkins, knowing our daughter, but wasn't given any until the server saw the teriyaki sauce spill.

Though it s a popular restaurant, we were never here, so it s our first time. Luckily, the resto didn t disappoint us. I ordered the Creamy Garlic Tuscan Salmon and my my, it was so good! My husband got his burger and was happy with it too. We will surely go back. Service was also great, nothing negative that we can give.

Manager seems like he doesn t want to be there. My friend and I were enjoying brunch when we over heard a conversation of him talking to an employee. He said he didn t like her attitude towards customers, she explained she wasn t giving any attitude and proceeded to degrade her. The rest of our time there she was scared to walk by him, and as server ourselves we were very upset. Our server Sylvia was great though and food was good as usual.

My wife and I were served by a bartender Ganesh. The place was understaffed, and this one man superhero attended bar took our order at our and served at least five tables at the same time. All the while, we never seemed rushed, he attended to our every needs came back to our table, at least 3 to 4 times to check on us and even had small conversation even though he was very busy. He made time for us to find out if we were happy with the service and if there was anything we needed. GOOD JOB GANESH !!! 10/10 service.
This was my husband s first visit to the pickle barrel, And he will most definitely be back. I ve been a patron since the 80s And we were there to celebrate my birthday. Our server Victoria was a delight. She was knowledgeable, efficient, and very helpful without being intrusive. I wish more servers in restaurants were just like her. The food was fresh, hot and tasty and we look forward to going back again soon. Parking: Lots of spots available. Easy access to the restaurant.

I had visited the location in Downtown Toronto in the Eatons Center 25 years ago not having any idea there was now a location in Pickering. My wife has a giant love of pickles so getting an entire tray of assorted pickles when you sit down was an added treat for her. Steak was cooked beautifully and they still had the killer milkshakes I remembered from waaaay back when I was in high school (and just as good today) Food was reasonably priced for the quality and I will be back.
Wish they still had won ton nachos .they were the best sure hope they bring them back to their menu! And soon!!!

We had a large party here today and the food and service was fantastic! They allowed us to move up our reservation when our event ended early. Our server was great. It was very busy in the restaurant so there was a wait for food and drink, but when it was ready, the food came at the same time for all of our party. Great timing by the kitchen. The food was delicious! We will definitely be back for casual meals and recommend this location as a place to host a group.

The food isnt anything special but it is great for a family outing. Not worth a special trip but well worth a visit if youre in the area! May return again in the future.

Ordered 2 smoked meat sandwiches today via Uber.. no options for condiments was provided so I had to enjoy a dry sandwich for lunch yay me! It wouldve been nice if the restaurant added packets to ensure client satisfaction seeing as though there were no options listed on uber however their item picture shows condiments in the sandwich.

Over the years, my family and I have given the Pickering Pickle Barrel 3 different chances, and unfortunately each time weve been thoroughly let down. My parents were celebrating their anniversary last night and decided to give this place one more chance and once again had awful service. My folks are too sweet to write a bad review so I will do it on their behalf. Not only did they wait 10-15 minutes to even be served menus and waters in a near-empty restaurant, but waited 45 minutes for their dinners (which were only sandwiches) that arrived lukewarm and incorrect. The only two other couples in the restaurant arrived after them and were served before them. Their waitress didnt check in on them during the meal and never even refilled their waters. My sweet folks were kind and still tipped well, but they deserved better service for their special date night. If you want to be served well and enjoy food with the people you love, I highly suggest you do not go here! There are many better restaurant options in Pickering, such as Chúuk, Moxies, or Amici.

We had an amazing dinner with Silvia. She suggested the new deli menu and we got the brisket grilled cheese (get the extra stack!!) and the smoked meat poutine. It was really great and we re glad Silvia told us to upgrade the grilled cheese :) delicious!!

Pickle barrel is not my usual first choice, but my wife loves the French onion soup and lately their deli menu is amazing..had a deli sandwich it was great!
We celebrated my cousin birthday here and the service we received from Bob was outstanding. He was amazing and very welcoming with an awesome personality.He also went above and beyond to make my cousin felt special on her special day.Thank you Bob. I brought my wife for her birthday and it started off great the place didnt have many people Im it and my wifes family was all there and we had a large table with 3 empty seats so the male manager ( large size guy in a blue shirt) decides to come over to our table and keep trying to persuade guests to move to another table because we were 3 people shorter than we thought we would be. So now after 9 people have been sat and were looking through menues he decides he wants us to move to another table all while speaking to us very condescendingly like we were 5 year old kids and tells us were going to move you to the best table in the house . They brought no cutlery to the table I guess we were supposed to bring our own, they were asked to bring water for 2 of the guests which they did not receive. Other tables that came later were getting served before us and then when we got our food it was cold and trash I could have had a better result with a box of Janes chicken fingers. A female manager came over and started helping but still we got no water and half the people got their cutlery. Honestly people just make food at home these cut and paste restaurants are trash and I hope soon become a thing of the past. I will not be returning to any location thanks to this one. Stay trashy and unclassy.

It s a shame. The building is nice. The inside decor is ok but our server kept forgetting things for our table from drinks to food. I ordered the double chicken breast on mash potatoes and veg. What an embarrassment the chicken breast was two slivers of chicken that a ghetto food court would be embarrassed to serve. My wife s fish and chips was mainly batter and the chips were cold.

I was fundraising for a non profit cause that is dear to my heart. I went to all the restaurants around Pickle Barrel..Moxies and Jack Astors in the same Plaza. These two places made me believe in Humanity until I spoke to the Manager from Pickle Barrel. A simple Im sorry I can not help you I understand..but I was given the run around.
My wife and her dining out group had lunch here on September 6. Despite the distraction caused by the car that had driven through the doors in the bar area, Silvia and staff were able to provide excellent, prompt and attentive service. Everyone was happy with their meals. Thank you all

Excellent service from Hannah!! Food was fine, nothing special or great. It was what I expected. Mediocre. What I really want to bring to the owners attention is how badly the tables, and partition walls that run alongside of the tables as well as the little ledges that run along the sides, are desperately in need of a deep clean. The tables, even though I m sure they re wiped regularly, are extremely sticky and the splatters of food and grease running along the walls are all in need of a really good scrubbing.
We had the creamy garlic tuscan salmon & the mushroom peppercorn sirloin steak along with appetizers and dessert. The main courses were delicious, with portions that were more than enough to satisfy a healthy appetite. Silvia was our server. She was great - friendly, efficient and professional. I ordered the 10oz mushroom peppercorn steak. I doubled up on my veggies instead of mashed potatoes. I chose a house salad as my side order with the house dressing which was lovely. I also tried the lettuce wraps and chose shrimp in it. It was nice. I couldnt even finish my steak so I packed it up. I ordered the I cant believe its gluten free chocolate cake that was topped with wite chocolate mousse, fresh strawberries and blueberries in chocolate syrup. It was rich and just the right amount of sweetness. I would dine here again at the Pickering location. I would definitely recommend this place.

I usually go to The Pickle Barrel in Pickering a few times a month for lunch. I love when our server is Maliq. He is so cheerful and friendly and knows a lot about the food. He always has a smile on his face and is willing to offer assistance. Also, the music is awesome. I could sit there all day and just listen to the music. Thanks Pickle Barrel for making my experience GREAT

Recently dined at Pickle Barrel and had exceptional service provided by Anthony! Learned it was his first night on the job - could not have guessed that because he was so professional and friendly. I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the food and especially the service and atmosphere - will definitely be back often!

We enjoyed the food. And Silvia was great.
The restaurant is pretty, with reasonable prices. Food was not good at all. The onion soup tasted bad. The broth felt very diluted and separate. The home special soup was okay. I ordered the steak and it was very dry. We also ordered the chicken parmesan and it was very dry. Service was absolutely horrible. The servers never checked on us. We had to keep waiting and had to constantly flag down our servers for small things like more sauce, some gravy, for the bill. I don t think I ll ever come back to this location. I was very disappointed.
Having had the meatloaf dinner at other Pickle Barrel locations. I gave this one a try. It felt like I was having TV dinner meat. It was loaded with fillers instead of meat. The plater was nicely presented and the vegetables were fresh though.
Corned beef sandwich with side of fries was excellent. Cali grilled chicken was very tasty. Silvia was our server and awesome.

This place continues to be our familys go-to spot for great food and great times. Very memorable service by Anthony. He was a wonderful server and deserves this review. We will definitely be back. I had very bad experience with this restaurant. I went to this restaurant with my husband and requested the girl at the reception desk to give me booth for comfort as I am pregnant. She rudely replied to me that someone has to come and clean the tables and it will take time.During our diner we could see the same girl coming and cleaning for other guest. I felt she was racist and showed preference as of whom she has to give services.Other staff members were very nice and food was good as well.

I was served by a very charming young man named Maliq. Order was Perfect, food was fine, I mean it s a pastrami on rye. But he got Every detail right and I was in and out in a flash. And they were short staffed. Highly recommend his section next and every time. Doug R, of Pickering

we went for a birthday dinner, celebrating my friends 50th about a month ago, June 1st. The service was fantastic, I had a chicken parmesan and it was delicious. very worth it for the price, I also remember this young blonde hostess who was very nice when leading us to out table.

I used to love going there. Itds not overly busy and the food was great. We went there today and they have removed a few things from their menu, and the menu is plain and generic looking. I loved the double Monty but they dont have turkey any more. The server was fine but never cleared the table between appetizers, drinks and dinner, the table was full with 7 of us. Had everyone in the bar and patio instead of using the dining room. The atmostphere just seem poor especially for a Saturday evening. Doubt Ill be back which is disappointing

Totally disappointed! Went for a friends birthday. Waited quite a while to get my drink. My starter, chicken bites came the same time as my salmon main course meal. The chicken bites were cold and salty and the salmon was raw and bland as if not washed or seasoned and the rice cold. The restaurant did not even have music. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone under no circumstances! Poor value for money!
