The Bean Counter has been a fixture of downtown Picton since 2003. We proudly source local ingredients and serve friendly County hospitality year round. We offer quality espresso drinks, drip coffee, loose leaf tea, fresh baked goods, and made-to-order sandwiches every day.
No rush, just a handful of customers, still took 30 min to get my order. I sat there and watched customers that came in after me come and go but when I asked after my order I just got an eye roll from the children behind the counter. Don’t be fooled by the country charm. Not worth the wait.
We walked up an down the street looking for a light lunch. My wife said let's try this place, and we were so glad she did. Cute little place with a great atmosphere. Coffee and food was excellent.
Awesome place for a quick coffee and bagels. Highly recommend the Montreal style bagel with cream cheese. They also accept your own mug to pour coffee in.
Stopped by the cafe after breakfast for a midday snack. Ended up getting the ginger molasses cookie and my husband got the lemon loaf, and we both shared a latte. This gives the feel of a small town cozy cafe. Lots of regulars were there and a sense of community which was lovely to experience. Food tasted great and drink was good!
We asked for a strong bold coarse ground coffee for our FrenchPress coffee machine. We got something that resembles the cheap clear waste water of the popular Canadian chain… we used 7 rounded scoops in our 5 cups machine … we wanted to exchange it for their Espresso… no they didn’t want to, we were ready to pay the difference of course…Still No … we will never go back there again. /// Very shortly after this original post, I was contacted by the owner asking me to reply to them directly; I was offered a full refund (I send in a picture of my receipt) I was glad this was solved rather quickly. We will try an other type of coffee when we come back next year.(Camping at Sandbanks Provincial Park )
Loved everything about our coffee and bagels this AM! Thanks for being open earlier than most breakfast places.
Came here on a Saturday. Got the chocolate frappe and s'mores frappe. Nice and sweet would recommend. Pretty artwork on the walls. Some seating available both indoors and outdoors. The grilled sandwiches smelled really nice (although we didn't have them). Bathrooms available.
Great coffee and amazing scones. There are tables outside where you can enjoy your coffee and people watch. They also sell St Viateur bagels here. Cute spot in Picton!
Best soup I ve ever had. Amazing pastries and drinks. Super kind staff. Great energy. Vegetarian options: can ask for sandwiches etc without the meat on them. super accommodating Dietary restrictions: lots of gf + vegan options Parking: huge parking lot a block down
Went here on a busy Sunday and there was a huge crowd of people ordering. I give 5-stars for the three ladies working and rocking it on Sept 15!
Good take away options from a freezer in the store - chili, dumplings, soups. Great salads and sandwich options for lunch. Free water and a few outdoor tables to sit at. Vegetarian options: Lots of choices. Dietary restrictions: They have a lot of frozen food for take-home that is GF and vegan/vegetarian. They also have a few baked goods that are GF.
Their blueberry scones are to die for! Unlike most scones, theyre extremely moist and heavenly. I got up early just to make sure Id get one. Oh, excellent coffee as well.
Fantastic coffee, particularly the Decaf coffee, which is usually, boring, but the Bean Counter Cafe coffee is wonderful. Love there coffee!!
Nice place to find Montreal bagels, good coffee and muffins!
I had a turkey sandwich, which was great. My boyfriend had the Cuban sandwich which he thought was just okay.
Fresh made breakfast sandwiches, friendly, prompt service and hot brewed coffee. Cute place!
Cute little cafe with pastries, sandwiches and coffee. The blueberry scone was delicious !
Since being sold during the pandemic the Bean Counter just isnt the same. Not the menu, the coffee, the staff, the ambiance.
It s a nice place but the coffee isn t great
On vacation in the area, THE Bean Counter café saved my life when my coffee machine broke!!! It was the best thing otherwise I would never have been able to taste their wonderful coffee!
Small but cool
No food ordered, just a Cortado.
A small cozy place. Polite staff
Great coffee, the snacks and take-home items are really fantastic. Staff is always friendly and keeping the line moving.
Good place for a coffee and a sandwich, great atmosphere and divine food.
The friendliest staff - felt right at home here while visiting PEC!
We were disappointed with the quality of the food. We bought a croissant, muffin and carrot cake. The croissant tasted like the packaged ones from the grocery store. We were expecting fresh, buttery and flaky. The chocolate raspberry muffin was ok. I thought that the raspberries would be fresh but they were dried. The carrot cake had no flavour! Where s the carrots!? The icing should have been cream cheese which it wasn t. All of the food items were served cold which sucks for baked goods as they are more dense and firm rather than soft and warm as fresh baked goods should be. The coffee was fine. We ve decided that this is the last time we ll visit the Bean Counter. We usually go to the Beacon but for some reason we thought we d change it up. Bean Counter has definitely gone down hill. Even their bars (Nanaimo and Millionaire) are cut into half the size that they used to be! Wheelchair accessibility: The other annoying thing was the stroller accessibility. We had to unlock the latch to the front door ourselves in order to fit our stroller through the door. No ramp either.
Got coffee here right after Christmas, coffee was ok, cute place, baked goods looked decent.
Amazing coffee. Omit Starbucks and come here instead!
Food was ok. Falafel tasted fine not a lot of flavour. The beet salad was mediocre as best as it was just dull. Not really a good value but food was passable. Vegetarian options: Falafel bland and lifeless.
From the outside you feel the charm and warmth of this little town. But once you enter the door that feels disappears. Coffee was okay at best, bagels are basic grocery store stuff. All this aside the lack of food safe practices puts us over the edge. Seeing one of the line cooks pick a cloth out of the garbage and continue to use the same pair of disposable gloves to cook, clean, wipe food off a spatula and cutting board made us shiver.
Yummy spot to grab a coffee or a light lunch when shopping in Picton. There are some neat items you can buy to add some zest to your own cooking.
Food was underwhelming with not very much flavour to their sandwiches. Service was excellent. Coffee was great!
Great coffee spot!
Good quality drinks, very busy. Outdoor seating is great.
Hey the food is good, and I hate to be this guy, but SLOWEST SERVICE EVER. We each ordered the Gravlax Bagels and its taken over 20 minutes... still no food. We can see the young woman making it and shes moving at a glacier speed... Any slower and she would be deconstructing them. Better staff training is needed...
This place is super adorable and the service is very friendly. Very vegan friendly which was a pleasant surprise! I purchase a frozen vegan curry but noticed they also had vegan sandwiches and ice cream! The staff are very friendly and the public restroom is kept clean and locked which I appreciate, when passing through sandbanks I will definitely make this my lunch spot
Coffee and breakfast food was great! Perfect for Sunday morning
Spent $31 on a Veggie burrito and a grilled cheese with bacon sandwich. Took 20 minutes and the rice in the burrito was not cooked and the grilled cheese was greasy. Didnt finish the burrito. Would not return
great place. real down to earth feel. great cup of coffee.
This is the only place Ive found in Canada that makes a flat white coffee!
Top shelf coffee and espresso drinks, outstanding pastries, great atmosphere.... Its our first time visiting the area but this is definitely our regular coffee shop when were in town.
Lovely spot to have a coffee and dessert or a sandwich. Left Sandbanks to go back home and needed a healthy meal before hitting the road. Had the smoked turkey sandwich in a wrap - yum!
I dont think Ive ever given a one star review before but this place gets it, first off Counter Staff were not friendly seemed like we were interrupting their personal conversations, Food choices were very limited and very over priced for what they were, the Espresso came in a paper cup the place was not air-conditioned as far as I could tell. Overall not a pleasant experience
I was so happy to discover this place while visiting Picton. Their pastries are SO TASTY ( I recommend the scones and their chocolate pastry), their coffee/hot drinks are delicious (I had a latté, my husband had a hot chocolate) but their kindness and welcoming nature is what will bring me back the next time Im in town. So kind, so generous (even gave my daughter a little gift) and so warm and approachable. What a great way for us to start our morning
Nice cappuccino with cinnamon. Not as expensive as Starbucks.
We made a simple order of breakfast sandwiches/bagels. The employees were making constant mistakes mixing up orders and having items go missing. The cashier was confused and barely said a word. It took us and other customers over 25 minutes to get food when it was not busy at all. Sandwich was sub par at best, barely even toasted. Would not recommend, there are plenty of options near by.
Great coffee and excellent scones!
I love coming here when Im in PEC. Its a great way to start the day.
Amazing place for coffee and a pastry!
Best coffee in town and the staff are super nice
Love the bagles
Super simple, super fresh, very friendly staff check it out.
Hands down the best cheese scone Ive had all day!
Very nice shop. Took a while to get a bag of coffee beans grounded for some reason
Wonderful selection of teas, coffees, pastries. Amazing sandwiches.
Nice coffee shop with different pastries, sandwiches, wraps, and breakfast items. Their London Fog was delicious. Vegan and vegetarian options available. They have a small table with childrens books and colouring pencils for the little ones, which was cute and thoughtful.
Great little place with great coffee!
Loved the play on the bars out front. Nailed the latte!
Coffee was excellent, cookie was awesome, atmosphere was fantastic what more do you need for a summery Saturday coffee break.
Was there last week and ordered quiche with green salad. 50% of the salad should have already been garbages . It was turning black. All I got was an unenthusiastic sorry . Even when I first ordered it was like I was imposing on other things they were doing, as it was a late lunch. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Fantastic coffee, my wife said it was amazing tea, and she said the scone was to die for. That s high praise from my wife who s a scone-a-holic. Staff was really nice and brought out a water bowl for our dog which was very thoughtful. Would visit again.
Cute cafe with alot of menu options for drinks. They even offer milk alternatives! My husband got a latte which he really liked and I got an iced blueberry white tea which was nice as well. The weather was nice so we sat out on the patio. Nice experience.
Very good, the staff was super friendly to all the local people but not to us.
Great food.
Good Nanaimo bar and drinks are ok. A bit overrun with clients. Maybe not worth the wait, but must have a lot of good items - the food items were practically all gone by the time I got there at 3:30 pm. Plan your visit accordingly
Cute little cafe with seating inside and out. Came here just to grab some coffees to go. Gets a little crowded by the front door bc of the line but moves fairly quickly.
Baked goods were tasty but the staff were cold and unfriendly, unfortunate to experience in my home town. Wont return.
Very yummy pumpkin spice latte and pumpkin pie treats! Very friendly staff.
Breakfast ok, I dont necessarily recommend the breakfast sandwich. Lots of choice otherwise. You have to be prepared for a wait, slow service. Well located.
Awesome but got my last order wrong.
Runner Up - Best London Fog in Canada. I ve travelled all over Canada and the London Fog is amazing - highly recommended. (If you re asking where the best one was - well it s a long drive to Inuvik). Make sure to visit this great establishment when passing through the county.
Just perfect place to have a coffee, the vegan snickerdoodle is delish
We visited with our friends for lunch. Various vegetarian options available. Food was fresh and made with care. The staff was courteous and polite. They asked us the finer details before starting making our wraps and sandwiches. Cozy corner with various options of food and drinks. Highly recommended!! Vegetarian options: They were creative to make a vegetarian sandwich which was not on their menu.
Slow service. Expensive pastries. Coffee is average.
Great little coffee shop in Picton, good food, great coffee, and personal service. When you are eating and drinking your way around Prince Edward County make sure to stop here.
Probably the best chai latte Ive ever had. Friendly and helpful staff, lots of seating available and good music
Excellent food and service. Especially if youre into healthy foods. :)
A great spot for exceptional coffee and desserts!
Delicious matcha latte!
Very friendly staff, good coffee, try the snickerdoodle cookies.
Great food and the staff are awsome
Great Matcha..friendly staff and nice little cafe
Strawberry sorbet was awesome. I didn t even want strawberry sorbet, I just ceased to function upon seeing the person at the counter. Awesome day, thanks for not making fun of me mistaking green for orange. I m not colourblind my brain s just miswired. Have an super incredible day.
Went there last year and the Scones were to DIE for. My son is going there on vacation next week and he MUST get me 8 Scones for me and my daughter in Montreal
Neat place, good service!
Delicious lattes!
Pretty good coffee shop. I like the ice cream there.
Excellent....... The food is absolutely delightful...gelato is light and delicious, the staff is excellent knowledgeable polite and kind.. The Establishment is welcoming unique very presentable, a welcoming little patio to sit and watch the passers by,,, and just be. Affogato is delicious.
Service was slow and the two girls working had attitudes. I would not go there again. Im from out of town but their demeanors were not welcoming at all.
It was good, just not great. My cappacino was on the warm side, not hot... Otherwise good.
Incredibly tasty breakfast bagel. Friendly staff and a solid flat white.
The carrot cake, chocolate chip cookie and iced lattes were so good. I can t wait to come back. Make sure you stop by if you are in the area. Everything tasted fresh and not overly sweet.
Great place, friendly staff from the moment we walked in, nicely renovated as well- highly recommend.
I unfortunately visited this establishment today with my daughter. I should mention that I have an invisible disability (PTSD) and so does my daughter (ASD). We were visiting Picton and I had made it a point to go to this cafe for gelato. We were being served by one of the employees and beginning to ask questions about gelato, when another one of their employees yelled out across the cafe You cant have a dog in a cafe, you could get charged. As I turned my certified Service Dog around and told this woman that he is actually a Service Dog, she said oh, sorry and walked away. I paid quickly and left. However, I was too distraught to get the gelato we had been looking forward to. We had just left one of the local restaurants where we were treated with kindness and respect. We were not prepared for this kind of disrespectful treatment. If the woman had a question as to whether or not my service dog was registered, quietly talking to me would have been appreciated and more respectful than yelling out to me with such negative and disrespectful statements. Not only did she trigger my anxiety, she also triggered my 9 year old daughter because of her language used. I hope that you choose not to go to this place simply because of this employee and the fact that people can so easily be accosted in their establishment. I hope that, at the very least, this employee is forced to review law regarding disabilities and Service Dogs in Ontario/Canada. It was not okay what she did and it should not be tolerated or accepted.
The biggestttttt hidden gem in Picton!!! Best coffee I ever tasted and love the patio vibe! The staff is super friendly... Try the hot chocolate and coffee! You will be taken to whole new different world !!!!
Great service. Dairy free ice cream, which is delicious.
Great place in Picton to stop for coffee and snacks. Food is delicious and the coffee is amazing
Really good coffee and latte
The staff at this place is very nice, down to earth, and they do their jobs very well. The morning selection of baked goods could be a little more varied (a good croissant would be fantastic), but what they do have is very good. I went back every morning we were in Picton.
Huge selection of snacks, treats, teas, and coffees! The staff is always so friendly. Great for grab and go. They also have a few tables and chairs out front to sit if you wish. Thanks Bean Counter!
Superior coffee, and yummy treats!
Delicious coffees!
We ordered Deluxe Grilled Cheese sandwiches for our kids. The menu did not state what deluxe meant (I thought it might be three cheeses). When it arrived, it contained bacon (we are vegetarians) and asked for it to be replaced. Well, the attitude by the staff was atrocious. They put the blame on us and refused to either refund us a portion of our money since plain Grilled Cheese is much cheaper or offer any type of consolation (my kids would have been happy with a free cookie). Walked over three doors to the Beacon Bike and Brew and got excellent service and satisfaction. Never again.
Great coffee and variety of other drinks. Delicious baked goods, gelato, lots of choice on the menu - something to suit all (vegetarian, gluten free, etc) Lovely staff. Employees are working very hard in a small town full of tourists during a global health pandemic, they deserve respect from us as customers. Thank you Bean Counter!
The coffee tasted good, but there were so many bees around patios that it was hard to enjoy. The service was bad and rude. I don t recommend this place a lot.
Delicious treats! Amazing coffee but the star is the young lady behind the counter. Didnt get her name but she wearing a sparkly mask & had the most amazing attitude!
Delicious mocha cappuccino
I ordered a medium pumpkin spice latte. The aroma was pleasant and the taste was very delicious. However, I was very disappointed that they did not have a pumpkin dessert. It would be a great combination with the latte. We are already in the pumpkin season! Please come out with a pumpkin cheesecake, or muffins, pies, donuts, scones, and bagels!
Really good coffee very sticky door though
Because of COVID, cant sit down. Good coffee though
This is a great little Cafe. They have coffee, tea, lattes, as well as a variety of cold drinks. The baked goods are fresh and delicious. The sandwiches are (chefs kiss). So tasty. Prices are also very reasonable. Just delicious, cant recommend enough!
The coffee was great but the sticky bun was other worldly!
Nice place! Good coffee. Pastries were delicious.
Great cafe!
Very nice place with a lovely comfortable feel. Great coffee and cakes selection. Try the Adult Grilled Cheese, its superb
Lovely service and tasty treats! The Nanaimo bar is by far the best Ive ever had!!
Delicious homemade food.
Nice coffee
Cute spot, friendly service and good coffee!! We tried the Mean Bean Frappe which was so good, almost too good. We also shared the Deluxe grilled cheese and it was super yummy, totally hit the spot for us. We will definitely be back.
Nice coffee and ice cream but quite expensive disgusting sandwiches made from the cheapest Walmart ingredients. Mine went directly to the garbage once I have taken it out. I ordered Reuben sandwich.
Lineups are part of the COVID-19 experience, but the wait for the couple two groups ahead of us was more than 10 minutes (and only one customer group at a time) which almost made us give up. Once inside, the service was great. However, I did not care for the cappuccino. It had an unpleasant burnt taste.
Too slow, gave up waiting.
A lot of choices, coffee and pastries. The coffee was good but a bit strong but still good. Staff was friendly.
Very bad experience with sugar water as sorbet very disappointed
I enjoy coming here for a coffee even though I never find the staff all that welcoming. It s all good though. Nice little cafe
Huge fan of the soy gelato!
They have quite handful of variety for Gluten Free. In Drinks we tried The County Bounty Drink: Strawberry flavour which was sweet and tangy in taste ( and it was GF) Food: Veggie falafel, Lots of veggies within wrap but it was quite bland in taste.
Delicious treats and superb coffee. Staff not always warm and friendly.
Yum yum yum! Great scones and breakfast place. I have yet to try the gelato but Im guessing so delicious judging by they rest Ive tried!!!!!
Still social distancing which is good by me. Friendly service. Great decaf mocha frappe. This is now a regular stop for me when in Picton.
The cafe is charming and has great coffee and tea selections as well very good food items; unfortunately the young girls serving in the front are not very pleasant or polite. The outside patio trash was overflowing onto the street. Service not impressed at all sorry.
the breakfast bagel is so so good! We had breakfast here 3 days in a row!
We stopped for a quick coffee and wow! The iced latte was incredible, very smooth. There were many options for Italian soda, and the flat white was such a highlight. Washrooms were clean and staff was friendly.
Always a good and friendly service. I really like their coffee and their sweet treats.
Grate coffee
Delicious food and drinks! We got the soup and Montreal smoked meat sandwich both were great! I forgot my purse there and when I called after they had closed they offered to stay and wait until I get there! Very sweet staff
Very good sandwiches and treats. Currently no indoor seating due to Covid
very helpful staff trying hard during the pandemic to please. Give them a chance this place will not dissapoint.
Baked goods and sandwiches were great. The coffee was good, but my espresso was not great.
A world-class cafe (and I say this as an avowed LOVER of good cafes)--excellent food, great coffee, cozy atmosphere... heck, even the smell of the place is just right: the rich aroma of coffee and dried teas mixes with the scents of fresh soups, sandwiches, and other handmade snacks to make you want to stay all day and gab with the incomparably welcoming and cheery folks working the counter. 10/10!
Love the pumpkin scones!
So far, they have always been friendly and we have not had a bad experience yet. Their quiche and breakfast bagel are both really great choices. We will definitely be back to try other items as well.
Great food and great coffee! Huge selection on teas!
Very friendly staff.
Single handley the best latte Ive ever had!!!
Love the coffee and paintings - wish we had more paintings here and less of the prints.
Friendly and local.
Great Lattes and baked goods
Great coffee
Friendly service with small town charm
Very tasty ice cream and treats. Fast service.
Great local roasted coffees.
good selection of food and drink and cute cafe
Great stop for a morning coffee en route to Sandbanks!
