Merrill House in Picton

Not sure how this is a 3-star hotel? The experience is UNREAL. From the moment we arrived, the space is so thoughtful, service is incredible (tea was served in the fireplace room), and the room we stayed in (tower suite) was immaculate. With the fully complimentary croissants and orange juice, mini bar, and sauna, this was a 5-star experience. Not to mention the sleep was immaculate.

Such a cute spot! Staff (Sean) was so friendly and gave great recommendations. Very clean and inviting!!

This is no longer a BnB. The room and bathroom are updated and bed comfortable. However there is not a cozy living room nor the option to meet other guests over a nice breakfast. There are little Parisian type small round tables and chairs where you can eat one croissant per guest with a small glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. The restaurant is not open from Nov to April. It was quiet. It is self check in with a staff member there for specific times. Such a pretty house but we felt it had lost alot of its former character. Nearby activities: Lots of restaurants within walking distance.

Amazing food and great service. Was a bit disappointed by the room as I booked the Victorian Suite. I was expecting a suite, not a room. Édit, response to owner: thanks for confirming that the room names are not standard to what is expected as a customer. Isnt a bit weird that you are aware of the différence between à room and à suite and you still chose to name your room name as à suite instead of using the right terminology? The fact that its an old mansion doesnt change words définitions. Anyhow, I think thats not honest advertising.

High Tea on Sunday of the September long weekend. Attentive service, lovely room, amazingly adorable bathroom. Good selection of tea and some of the best sandwiches and cakes If it is still available on the first Sunday of October I will be there. The delicious options and setting are pure luxury. Food and drinks: High Tea is such l wonderful way to bond with friends and family. Have also had dinner there in the spring. The wine list is a rare treat just to read let alone order from. Arctic char was my main course and I have been thinking about it since. Time to return.

Dinner at Merrill House is always exceptional. The food is outstanding, the service is amazing, and the sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. A great place for special occasions or just because you can!

This restaurant is the best in the Picton/Bloomfield/Wellington area! The food is absolutely delicious, perfectly prepared and presented. The service was exemplary- friendly and knowledgeable and made for an outstanding experience. We will make this our go-to restaurant when visiting the Picton area. The food is just so good! And the ambiance made it very special. Highly recommend !

This hotel is okay - we had a comfortable stay but it was nothing remarkable, and for the price point we expected MUCH more. A few things advertised online were not received, and the concierge services werent particularly helpful. Dinner was well executed except the service - it was not very friendly, and there was little to no conversation. There are better places to stay in the County that offer similar amenities and better customer service, for less. We will not be staying again.

This was our second stay at the Merrill House and it was absolutely amazing. The hospitality is so genuine and the staff truly cares about the quality of your stay. Shout out to Sean for being so kind and helpful! Merrill House is stunning with unique decor and details, everything perfectly placed. The rooms are beautiful with the comfiest beds and cleanest bathrooms. We enjoyed breakfast in the conservatory all three mornings of our stay and it was delicious each day. Steps away from downtown Picton, Merrill House is perfectly located. Thank you everyone @ Merrill. We will be back again!

Just came back from Merrill House for a mother-daughter trip for mothers day weekend and we had the most incredible time! We unexpectedly got upgraded to the best room in the hotel which was very much appreciated. Super clean rooms and excellent cleaning staff. Sean was the best concierge I have ever had in my entire life and I have stayed at leading hotels all over the world. He truly makes you feel like you are home and goes above and beyond. I truly dont know how he does it all. They are so lucky to have him. We had the most amazing meal at the restaurant. The staff (Susan, Laura and Kailyn) were so warm and welcoming and everything was absolutely delicious. I cant even describe how fantastic breakfast was - the lemon ricotta pancakes lived up to the hype! We couldnt sleep at night (even though the bed was super comfortable and fresh) because we couldnt wait for breakfast the next morning!!! I am already planning my next stay. What a wonderful place. Rooms: Impeccable design and so clean. Food and drinks: One of the best meals I have ever had. My mom also became obsessed with the Peacock cocktail - so good.

Owner uses other platforms with different pricing to try and attract people to the property. The owner is very unprofessional and misleading, leaving the front desk staff to explain why the booking they submitted isnt possible. No 5 star property uses misleading airbnb listings as a marketing tool. This speaks to the true level of service this location provides. Avoid at all costs.

I was recommended by a family member to stay at Merrill house and it did not disappoint! I was visiting PEC for the eclipse and had an amazing stay at the Merrill House this past weekend. The location was great, just a couple minutes walk to the main Picton strip. It is super cute and unique, and I was especially impressed with how clean our rooms were (especially our washroom). The breakfast was a pleasant experience and delicious (although a bit expensive - approx $90 for 2 people after tax/tips). Also Sean is the most wonderful human being Ive ever met as a hotel staff. He is quick to answer any of your questions/requests before and during your stay. He really goes above and beyond and works his magic to make your stay amazing. His enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you for the great stay! Hope to be back some day!

Beware of shady and unprofessional management. My wife and I booked this hotel about 3 months in advance. We had a change of travel plans and requested a cancellation more than 2 months in advance. Management refused to honor a refund. If they are this unprofessional, I advise you to stay elsewhere.

Food and drinks: This was my second visit to the restaurant at Merrill House and was not disappointed in the least. My starter was the wine braised calamari while my partner started with the PEI mussels marinara. Each of us opted for the wine pairing suggested on the menu. The calamari were tender tasty and sublime. My partner swooned over the size and freshness of the mussels. The wines were perfect compliment to each dish bringing out the best of both the wine and the food. We both opted for Enright Beef Tenderloin seared with braised oxtail bits and port wine jus for our main course. The presentation was starlike with the tenderloin in the centre with arms of braised vegetables. The meat was cooked to absolute perfection, juicy flavourful. The oxtail bits were tender and complimented the beef. The vegetables were cooked but firm. The wine was chosen my the in house sommelier as the wine that I had requested was not available. The wine was superb. It had a wonderful bouquet and was smooth and flavourful making the beef come alive . Our dessert was the in house baked profiteroles with coffee. The perfect end to a wonderful meal. As it was a winter visit, we were able to eat in the lounge rather than the main dining room and enjoyed the ambiance of the ireplace and being served by our wonderful server, Susan. She took great care of us without being overbearing. She seemed to know exactly when there was something that was needed. She help make our meal a perfect experience. A special thank you to Susan who took wonderful care of us for dinner. Thank you also for allowing us to eat in the lounge. It was the cherry on top of our fantastic visit to Merrill House.

I had stayed here many years ago (well before the pandemic) and hesitated to book again given the mediocre service at that time. As I read more recent reviews, I learned it has since been under new management, and let me tell you, the service was impeccable. As soon as we parked, we were greeted by Sean, who welcomed us and offered a room upgrade. The place has a unique vibe with their vintage, eclectic decor. Our room was spacious and clean, with a sitting area that included a couch and coffee table and fireplace for ambiance. We even had our pillows misted from a selection of calming scents. The Merrill is also well situated right on Main St. This review is only for the accommodations as we didnt have an opportunity to try their food and drinks. The next time we visit the county, well definitely stay an extra night to try their tasting menu. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Sean was outstanding! From the start of the stay to the end, he met our every need. Very professional, courteous and passionate about his work! Amazing. Driving from Niagara and arriving late. Could not wait till morning to explore the beauty and authenticity of this place. Breakfast was perfect, just like the whole experience. Will definitely recommend and return.

We had a welcome party at Merrill House and it was magical. Tina was an absolute delight to work with. I was getting married next door at The Cape and had to leave early in the morning (missing the breakfast) and Tina dropped in and brought me pancakes! Dream host. You ll have a great stay here.

We loved our stay at The Merrill House! The hotel is super cute and unique. We loved all the art and history of the house. Dinner was fab and the breakfast amazing! Such a cozy spot in Prince Edward County. Sean, the operations manager, was especially amazing!! He truly couldnt have been more kind, accommodating and welcoming.

We enjoyed our stay at Merrill House. We loved the decorations and the uniqueness of the house. The service was excellent, our room was a little cold (note this is an older converted house) and the concierge provided a mini heater. We were greeted with delicious macarons. Our breakfast this next day was perfect with made to order entrees. We were glad that we had the option for apple juice as we couldnt have their fresh squeezed orange juice. Would definitely visit again.

Visited in May 2023. Overall, beautiful hotel. You can tell that the owners have carefully designed and considered every detail. Staff were very friendly. I would gladly come back for a longer stay! Room: I think our room was called the Victorian Room. It was very clean and spacious, with a unique/eclectic design. The bathroom was well stocked with very nice smelling toiletries and even had a Dyson hairdryer. Slippers and robes are provided. Amenities: The hotel has a back patio, a restaurant, and a sauna. Unique features include complimentary scented pillows at night (you can choose from four scents) and an audio history tour that walks you through the hotel, narrated by the owner. Food: The breakfast was delicious. We tried the herb omelette and the lemon ricotta pancakes - so good! We didnt try the restaurant for dinner. Location: Easy/convenient location right in downtown Picton with free parking. We were able to walk down Main St. in Picton from the hotel to have dinner.

Exceeded our wishes Noteworthy details: We just celebrated our 48th anniversary at the Merrill House. The staff were wonderful and the accommodation amazing. Although everything was terrific, the hilight had to be the incredible food, that never ceases to be the best I have ever tasted. Thanks to everyone for making this visit so special.

The best place to stay when visiting the County! From check in to check out this place gets 5 stars. Sean greeted us on arrival and was so helpful in many ways and very pleasant each time we saw him. The restaurant is incredible. Dinner was excellent .. salad is a must with their home made dressing. Breakfast is beyond yum!! From Coffee to ricotta blueberry pancakes .it s the best!! Highly recommend this beautiful historic home for your stay in PEC.

Stayed for 2 nights in Merrill House. Nice location, nice decoration, nice restaurant and concierge service. Don t forget to book the petite sauna house, so cutie. The only thing to make it imperfect holiday is they charge compulsory gratuity for each breakfast and breakfast beverage. We are more than happy to pay for the nice food and service, but that would be good to notify in advance . Overall speaking, it s still a good option to stay.

We went to Merrill House for breakfast and had a lovely experience. The prix fixe breakfast ($35) was a good value as it included tea/coffee, fresh OJ, pastries, plus a choice of main/sides. We ordered the gravlax & poached eggs and ricotta pancakes with a side of potatoes and sausage, all of which was very tasty.

The Merrill House Restaurant Beautiful wine cellar and ambiance. When we arrived we were told that we could sit anywhere we liked. We picked a table and settled in only to be told we had to move as the table we had chosen was reserved. We were then informed by our server, Sue, that there is a 3 course prefix menu and that we were not allowed to order a la carte. We were not made aware of this when we made our reservation, nor is it anywhere on their website. The waitress, Sue, was short and clearly annoyed with us when we asked to order a la cart. I did not appreciate her tone. I found her rude. We were off to a bad start, irritated and ready to leave when our wine arrived. We had ordered quite a fantastic Riesling from Lighthall Winery. We decided to stay and try to shake it off. It s a good thing we liked the wine. Sue warmed a bit and allowed us to order a la carte. We ended up spending $255 on wine and dinner anyway. The prefix menu is $95pp. We had two courses and dessert. We both ordered the Calamari Puttanesca and the Gnocchi Lemon Sage. Though both dishes had lovely presentations, we found them both lacking in flavour. The calamari dish looked amazing but tasted disappointingly bland. The gnocchi arrived looking like a plate of sushi which was a highly creative presentation. It was more flavourful then the previous course but still left our taste buds wanting more. Both dishes tasted good, just not spectacular. The dessert however, was spectacular! Sue made us wait for what seemed to be an eternity before taking our dessert order, but it was worth the wait. We ordered the profiteroles with pistachio ice cream with chocolate sauce and it was spectacular! It was quite a large dessert, delicious and had a fabulous presentation. After initially being treated poorly, we ended up enjoying our food and particularly the wine, but overall we were disappointed. We expected more from Merrill House.

Went here for dinner and the food was great! It is a minimum 3 course meal with a set price and good authentic French cuisine.

My partner and I stayed for two nights in the wonderful Marchioness suite. Supper was lovely, and breakfast was a great way to start ones day. The staff, both concierge and housekeeper, were helpful and delightful to be around. Definitely recommend the Merrill House for a couples getaway in PEC. Rooms: Spacious, decorations were beautifully catered and selected. Bed was very comfortable. Walkability: 2min walk to downtown Picton. Food and drinks: Both breakfast and supper meals were amazing. Thorough selection of wines, beers, and spirits. Noteworthy details: Historical house within Picton. Worth splurging on.

Went here for a couple of nights for our anniversary, we love unique and beautiful spaces and Merrill House fit the bill. The room was charming and beautifully decorated (the whole house was). And then the breakfasts and the dinner were outstanding, such a nice way to spend our time away.

The food & service in the dining room are absolutely outstanding! A culinary delight! I rate this restaurant one of the finest on the continent! No wonder the Wine Spectator gave them a Best of Award of Excellence - it matches their food!!!

When we first came here in 2018, I was very impressed with the food. The meat, fish, and salads were all fresh and delicate. We visited again in 2020 with friends. The waitress was friendly and the service was terrific, but... I didnt get the same impression of food last time and the fish was a bit fishy. 2021 Visited again for a friends birthday, good service, good wine. The service was good, the wine was good, the lamb for the main course was very good, but the rest of the meal was not so good. The fish smelled fishy.

If I could give zero stars I would. 3 days before arriving we received a call from Merrill House saying that they had water damage in our room and that they couldnt honour our reservations. Entire weekend plans thrown into chaos. After speaking with friends it seems that water damage is an excuse used often by hotels and B&Bs to get out of reservations for whatever reason. We cancelled our dinner plans at the restaurant as well and wont be staying here in the future.

I haven t even stayed yet and would never based on Sean Bruno general managers email responses.

I cannot recommend Merrill House enough! Staff are kind, attentive, and go way above and beyond to ensure you have a comfortable stay. A great mix of comfort and luxury. We had a large booking and hosted our rehearsal dinner here, the food and drinks were exquisite. All our guests were very impressed.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Merrill House. The decor is engaging and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Our dining experience was also fantastic. The space is unique, intimate and comfortable. The food was plated well and tasted delicious. The chef and his team are to be commended. The breakfast chef and her staff prepared an equally delicious meal before our departure. My omelette was perfect, my wife s blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes were the best I ve had and the croissants I could eat daily. Thanks Merrill House for a great weekend and we look forward to visiting again.

Loved everything about the Merrill House. Rooms are comfortable and lovely. The restaurant is excellent - both dinner and breakfast were first-rate. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. And the house and grounds are beautiful and perfectly located.

Our stay at the Merrill House was incredible from start to finish. Every detail of the trip was beautiful and we absolutely loved our stay. The house itself is gorgeous. Each room in the historic home has a unique vibe and feel. We had the pleasure of touring all the rooms during our stay. Our host Jessica was beyond accommodating and was happy to help us with anything we needed. She helped make my mothers 60th Birthday special, and we are so thankful for her hard work. The breakfast was on another level, featuring delicious croissants and a variety of meals to choose from. Highly recommend the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes! Overall, this is easily your best choice for accommodations in the Picton area. My family had an amazing trip and we highly recommend the Merrill House to anyone looking for a unique stay!

Beautiful spot but our dinner was nothing special compared to some of the other meals we had during our May 2022 stay in PEC. What could have improved our experience was friendlier staff. The waitress that met us at the door and seated us appeared tired and unwelcoming. The waiter who appeared so friendly and accomodating when we mixed up our reservations the evening prior was cold and unfriendly when we returned the following evening. Had planned to check out the hotel after dinner but didnt bother. Will leave this one off our list when we return to PEC.

We had an incredible stay here. We even brought our two 5 year old daughters and it worked out great. They were very accommodating for children. The service, design and attention to detail is impeccable. Highly recommend a stay here!

No wifi. No working tv. The door to the bathroom did not close without having to forcibly slam it. The breakfast was stingy, meagre and pathetic. This is not a bed and breakfast more just a bed. The breakfast in the dining room is cancelled due to covid without providing any warning of such via email. Hypocritical then that the same space is open for a very overpriced dinner. Shameful and dishonest. Breakfast delivered to room an hour earlier than previously arranged. So woke us up an hour earlier than we had asked. Breakfast was a shot of orange juice - a shot - what you would get a side of salad dressing in. Really. A banana, a yoghurt and a bite size croissant. It was quite offensive to be woken with such sad excuse for a breakfast. Profiteering off covid, me thinks. They also never ever answer their phone . The decor is kitschy and amateurish - such a shame with such a beautiful building. Misrepresentation of the highest order. It is clean and it does have a good shower, but the stairs to the third floor are narrow and steep and very difficult to walk up even with minimal luggage. Be warned - Don t stay here. Scratch just below the surface and you will discover it s a total sham and the owner is out of his depth big time.

Had our (49th) anniversary dinner at Merrill House tonight. All of our choices (starters - Merrill salad, Octopus; mains - rack of lamb, bison) were very tasty. Desserts were very good too. Attentive, but not intrusive, service. Not inexpensive, but okay for a special occasion.

I am currently staying in the velvet room at The Merrill House. My finace and I are blown away! We stay at beautiful properties/hotels as a hobby and this experience is in line with the Elora Mill and St Regis, Toronto... but with an added unmatched personal touch to their hospitality. The whole experience has been curated in such a way to give the guest a unique experience that leaves you wanting for nothing. Stay here.

Excellent presentation of food, and I really enjoyed their ambiance. Gluten free options weren t as plentiful as the findmeglutenfree app had led me to believe- few appetizers could be made gf. I had the lamb (delicious), and my husband enjoyed the oysters and bison. Cocktails were also great!

We stayed in The Gothic room and we had a great time. Very clean, stylish decor, and super friendly staff. Matthew at the reception speaks English, Russian, Serbian, Finnish and Romanian. He s a pleasure to chat with. He gave us all kind of recommendations in terms of what to do around the area as well as his favourite choices at the house restaurant. His mother is the breakfast chef - must try the crepes and the English breakfast whose highlight was the beans. Dinner was also delicious, everything was so fresh and pretty. Great selection of wines and delicious cocktails. If you plan on doing winery tours, buy a $40 wine passport from Merrill House. It s for 2 people, includes about 12 wineries and gives you some discount with purchase. Booked our stay through Travelzoo and not The Merrill House website as there was a package including a bottle of wine & chocolate. So, check Travelzoo first, maybe the deal is still on.

Had dinner at Merrill house with a bunch of friends. The food was pretty good but felt a bit over priced for the quality.

Wow. What a fantastic place to stay in Picton. Old charm, new features in the rooms and the restaurant was amazing. I recommend the foie grad as an appetizer. The breakfast was included and it was also a great way to start the day. If you enjoy sitting by a fire outside, or using a sauna, this is the place for you!

Beautiful small boutique hotel. Service is 100% . Breakfast is the best in the county, and I believe its included with your stay no matter your package. We stayed in the haunted room (no its not haunted) and its very nice quaint room. Comfy bed, beautiful up to date renovated bathroom. The Merrill House itself is gorgeous. Every room is unique and the decor is stunning.

We had dinner in the restaurant... Gorgeous food, wonderful setting. But for the level of fine dining and price point, our server didnt feel up to snuff. She had a notepad that she constantly had to refer to which felt very diner-server vibes. When I asked her to describe menu items, she described how MUCH there was instead of what the flavor profile was. When I considered the wine pairing option, she hummed and hawed and seemed like shed be the one to decide and didnt seem entirely knowledgeable. If theres a wine pairing fee, I would hope a sommelier would be making the matches. Will certainly be back, but hope the training of service can match the level of location and fare.

Every aspect and detail exceeded my expectations. The rooms are cozy, creative and well equipped. The staff are attentive, and the restaurant is a hidden gem.

For our 1 year wedding anniversary we decided to celebrate at Merrill House we booked a 1 night stay we now wish we booked longer. Jordan and his staff were absolutely amazing they treated us like family and made sure our stay was nothing less than perfect. You will fall in love with Merrill House from the breathtaking decor that flows from room to room to the delectable breakfast. I cant say enough about our stay but you have to visit Merrill House .

Top notch service, ambiance and excellent menu items (we had Cheddar Stout soup, roast beef and creme brulee) for Countylicious (until Nov 22) at the Merrill House restaurant in Picton - a great choice any time!

I cant tell if its because I havent eaten out in a while but having this place as my first meal out of lockdown was nothing but perfect. The food here is spectacular, I had the beef tenderloin and beef tartare, and would get again if I lived close enough to go again, definitely recommend!

MH is a very quaint and lovely hotel. The rooms are smaller but very unique. We found them to be very cute and lovely. There are some slight concerns, if you like a big bed, there is no king size bed. If you like a large bathroom, nope. The AC is not ideal and hence air circulation is an issue. But what makes the hotel is the staff. From the check-in the staff is amazing. And here a special shutout to Sean the head butler. No question was not answered, no request was not fulfilled and he went the extra mile. We had dinner at the hotel and that was good. The breakfast is included in the room price and we found that to be excellent. The pancakes and the omelette in particular. Location is also very nice. Some room for improvement especially on the dinner food experience but the staff and ambience is surely great.

Our server Mariko was excellent at suggesting options based on what we said we enjoyed. She guided our tastes well while choosing the 3 courses for our meal. Everything we ate was delicious, and the local wine pairings from nearby vineyards went well with what we ate. Thank you to the restaurant staff at Merrill House for a delicious supper!

This stay was in the makings for 35 years. Thank You Merrill House . My sweetheart and I knew each other in Highschool and connected again this last Christmas after a crazy Covid year with both of us separated from our spouses of 26 and 30 years. We had been chatting on line and video chatting for 8 months. So after not being together after 35 years we scoured the province of Ontario for a nice romantic spot that was fresh for me and new for her since she was flying in from the West. So this is the first time we would meet and be together since high school. So we decided on the Merrill House and had a wonderful over the top romantic get away. The Eastern room was perfect for our romance. We snuggled for hours and enjoyed sitting on the balcony and relaxing. Breakfast was fantastic During the restrictions it was nice that they had separate rooms for isolation for our meal but that meant privacy for us. <3 The dinners are superb as well. There are also some nice options in the town of Picton which is in walking distance. The Staff were wonderful everything was just perfect. Both of us feel that it was the perfect way to meet and start our wonderful romance. We are very happy to have fond memories of the Merrill House. Prince Edward County is a wonderful place to drift around and find romantic picnic spots. Sandbanks the Light house point. Vineyards always have a romantic aura to them .. So if your looking for a Romantic spot to enjoy a romance and get away with your partner check out the Merrill House..

Amazing food and even better cocktails. Very nice place to take your loved one for dinner.

Had a great stay in the Concept Room at the Merrill House. The room was very nice and super clean. Very neat place to stay in a convenient location. The breakfast was great as well! Did take off a star as at 7am we were woken much earlier than planned as this room is apparently right beside a linen closet and it sounded like there was a tap dancing contest in the hall with all the loud footsteps.

My husband and I went here for dinner celebrating our anniversary. The food was delicious! Worth every penny. The wine cellar where we ate is stunning but quite small. The grounds of the place are beautiful with large mature trees and greenery everywhere. Very interesting and beautiful place! Tables could be bigger, for two people sitting at a small round table it was pretty cramped. Would go back for dinner and would recommend to others!

It s all about the details here. Service in every respect was amazing. The linens were scented, soaps were outstanding, and the eclectic nature of the hotel was different and lovely!

We went there for diner and the food was delicious and the service was really good too. Definitely our favorite place in Picton so far. The only negative point is that you can t order a la carte and must order at least a 3 course-meal.

Great service good food well worth the price

Went for dinner; some of the food was amazing, and some of it was a big miss. The mushroom risotto was very watery and tasted of nothing but dill, and one of our plates had to be remade entirely. The table was extremely small, fine for a coffee shop but not for fine dining. The service was mediocre. I ve had better meals for well under half the price, but experiences will vary depending what you order. Not recommended, at that price the food and service should be on point.

We treated ourselves to a 3 course meal and it was fantastic. We sampled the octopus, rabbit ravioli, crab louie, gnocchi as our firsts and then had the veal and scallops for mains. Everything was spectacular and the staff was very attentive. We will definitely be back

Walking distance from main street in Picton. Beautiful restaurant, good food and excellent service. Not cheap but we had the 3 course meal and it was worth it. Would definately return. Reservations are a must.

I don t know my wife and I ate here and the food was presented well, but tasted just ok. I think the chef needs to learn about spices because the food was pretty flavourless. There was also no experience at all. Don t expect to people watch here. You ll go to a basement and eat quietly like you re in an old folks home. For $300+ we expected a LOT more.

Very high quality service and superb food. Expensive but who doesn t deserve to be pampered?

Food was nice. We were seated closer to another entrances so there werent a lot of tables in our area which was nice. The foie grad appetizer was good, a little bit of savory and sweet. I really liked the meringue dessert. It was very simple, probably did not look beautiful from the pictures but the meringue and cream were nice and fluffy. A very satisfying note to end on.

Beautiful house with really eclectic decor and lots of different rooms to take some fun photos. Also a few different things to do onsite, theres a cool barrel sauna, a fire pit, VR setup, art installation, and complimentary yoga. Dinner and complimentary breakfast was also delicious in a cozy dining room.

My stay at Merill house gets an 11/10. Where to start? The staff; from check in to check out the staff is helpful, well informed and very friendly. This beautiful hotel is equipped with everything you will need during your stay. The owner, Jordan Martin is an absolute pleasure! Jordan has dreamt of owning a hotel since he was a child and he managed to make this dream a reality. This modern boutique hotel in PEC is truly a dream! Every single room is beautiful here, the design details and curated pieces add character with a modern vibe. I dont know much about interior design but this place is STUNNING! There are a variety of different rooms available, many of them have cool themes related to the history and decor. I love that Jordan switched the name back to Merill house and that he wants to preserve the heritage. Lastly, the food was absolutely delicious. Every dining experience at the Merill house was 9/10. Great food, great service, high quality ingredients, great cocktails. I could go on and on. I recommend the Merill House for your next stay in PEC. Im hoping I can make it back to Merill House for the winter experience this season.

There Merrill house restaurant is great if you can find the entrance. We walked to the restaurant and assumed that you entered through the front door... but upon entry all we could see was a bit empty house. We then walked around back and found a door that said restaurant entrance, but it was locked for the winter. We finally found the restaurant by going through the concierge entrance at the back and asking someone there. There food and drink were amazing... well worth the adventure!

We were really surprised at our level of satisfaction of this place given the overall review of 4.5. The restaurant/hotel itself is very quaint and had a homey vibe. We enjoyed the restaurant seating area that had a warm ambiance to it; which takes care of the 2 stars. The lack of 3 stars is due to the actual food itself considering the price-point. The food was decent, but when the average price of an entree is in the mid-high $40 range you are expecting something above average. - the meat (veal and lamb) didnt seem like it was sourced from a high grade vendor because it lacked tenderness and flavour - the sides for both of our dishes were fava beans - we did split a salad and enjoyed it As well, the waitress was not engaged and lacked overall enthusiasm which took away from our fine-dining experience. Its possible we went on a bad night because weve heard great things about this restaurant.

Not what I expected for the price ($700 for one night, drinks and cheeseboard, taxes in). I usually stay at great venues and was expecting a great experience at the Merrill House, but I was quite disappointed. I had made a reservation well in advance, and contacted the hotel to book dinner. I called the hotel but nobody picks up. Then I emailed them and I didn t get any response. Finally I left a voicemail message and one of the owners called me back the same day we were scheduled to check in. When I inquired about dinner reservations, they told me they were all sold out and only had one time slot available which did not work for our schedule (if they had been more responsive we wouldn t have been challenged to schedule dinner). I feel they are very unresponsive, and don t value their customers. Beautiful property, rooms were okay but lacked amenities like lotion and normal toiletries; necessities like towels, toilet paper, soap and shampoo were present. Breakfast was a big miss! All they offer is coffee or tea, banana or apple, yogurt parfait, and orange juice all in take out containers. Not worth the money, hope they understand the importance of catering to their customers. COVID has definitely impacted a lot of businesses but this experience was well below any standard I would associate to a great experience. Don t expect much here, hope they improve.

I had my wedding reception at Merrill House in August 2020. We stayed in 5 of the rooms, which were all beautiful. Staff was attentive and accommodating. Our 5-course dinner was phenomenal, with expertly selected wine pairings. Special thanks to Kat, Matt, and Jordan for making it a truly special day that we will always remember. Additionally, Merrill House is taking very responsible precautions considering the current climate. We are looking forward to coming back in the future.

My friend and I were having a girls weekend in Picton and made dinner reservations here. We had private dining on their screened in porch. We both had the 3 course meal and it was fabulous! We are from NY and Chicago and the service and food are just as good! The service was amazing and the food and attention to detail was just as good! We would definitely be back and would love to stay there next time!

Service was okay at best, especially considering the price. Gave us the wrong room even after asking multiple times, and did not care to correct or adresse the mistake. Could not even provide free water, which I found crazy for the price. The room was clean however.

A very unique intimate getaway

My girlfriend and I like to fine dine on occasion but due to Covid haven t had the opportunity in a long while. For our first splurge back into the game Merrill house did not disappoint! We had 3 courses with wine pairings and we were super happy with everything we were served. Excellent food, excellent service. Despite the high price we still both agreed it was well worth it.

This is a gem in PEC/Picton. Their services were very personal and intimate. Shout out the the main host Shealem, she is the best! Lovely decode and setting makes you feel like you are transported to the good old days. The restaurant was great too, we had a private room to dine and they setup the fireplace for us too. Their servers were not the most experienced, but given its a long weekend they prob. have juniors that needs some finesse in their training. Either way we had a great time staying here! Hope this place stays sweet and humble the next time we visit!

We celebrated our 1 year anniversary in Prince Edward County and decided to stay at the Merrill House (newly renovated) due to the great reviews we saw online. The staff were very accommodating, the food at the restaurant was delicious, the rooms were clean, modern and comfortable, we met some amazing people, and overall we had a wonderful time! This place deserves every star!

The Merrill House is as amazing as it is beautiful! Jo is truly the most kind hearted and lovely human who made our stay even more incredible. Beautiful restaurant set in a century old home. Menu is good, food is very tasty. Beautiful grounds and patio. Cool and eclectic furnishings in the hotel. Met the owner, super nice and friendly gentleman. Would recommend. Hope to be back soon. Thank you for the hospitality.

I sent my girlfriend and her friends to PEC for her 30th birthday, and they loved their stay at the Merrill! Jo was the most helpful person Ive ever met, and I couldnt have done it all without her help. The food was great, the rooms were lovely, and the girls had a blast. Highly recommend!

The Merrill House is beautiful both inside and outside. We had dinner at their 5-star restaurant. The food was delicious and the wine selection amazing. The staff was super friendly, kind, courteous and attentive. I look forward to going back again one day! I highly recommend the Merrill House.

Really friendly and inviting staff. The room was so clean and cozy. The rest of the BnB is really beautiful. The breakfast is also very good and filling. I had the ricotta pancakes and my friend had the sourdough bread and poached egg. We also tried the sauna and virtual reality headset. Would stay here again!

Very chic old house with about a dozen rooms, all differently decorated. We had our own bathroom (I believe they all do?). Great gateway to Prince Edward County. Breakfast the next day was very fresh and carefully prepared.

The food, as always, absolutely wonderful. The chef, Michael Sullivan, is truly a great chef. The new decor is fabulous and you could be anywhere in Europe. Hats off to all.

Staff was very friendly and welcoming (offered to take our photo upon arrival at dinner). Restaurant was elegant. Pike Quenelle was amazing and I was pleasantly surprised by the portion of the foie gras. I had to wait a while for my main course (~40min) which usually would not have bothered me except the beef tenderloin I finally received was cooked medium-well done as opposed to medium-rare... a very disappointing end to the dinner

Merrill house is a beautiful restored Victorian mansion in the heart of Picton. The staff are very friendly, the uniquely designed rooms are beyond comfortable and their restaurant has a food and wine menu that will leave you asking if you can stay longer!

Went to the restaurant, very cozy atmosphere, good staff and great food! We went with a group and it was a nice intimate setting (it was the off season so we were the only ones there). definitely recommend making a reservation if you are with a group so they can prepare to accomodate.

Excellent staff. Owners super friendly and accommodating. The Inn is quite nice, charming, and well taken care of. The room was newly.renivated, well decorated, with a very clean modern bathroom. The meal at the restaurant was a 5 star level experience. Excellent .

We had a lovely stay at the Merrill. It came recommended and lived up to its recommendation . Great front desk staff and restaurant staff . The room was well appointed and the restaurant was great . Excellent meal and choices.

Server(s) must have been having an off night. Note that they do not do the wine pairings anymore (even though it is still mentioned on their website). My risotto was meh but the lamb was fantastic.

The rooms are rather small and poorly equipped (22 inch TV), the air conditioning unit was poor and very little space for the suitcase. An electric fireplace cluttered the room, this should be removed for the summer. the room service left something to be desired, our glasses (wine and water) were never cleaned or replaced. No easily accessible electrical plug to plug in your devices. the hotel is undergoing revitalization and it really needs it. The restaurant food is excellent though.

If there were 6 stars, I would give this restautant the bonus point. Dinner was delightful. I had the venison, cooked to perfection. Cold soup, very nice. Warning: small venue so get your reservstion early. Service matched the food.

Quaint inn with a good restaurant for breakfast. Not quite my aesthetic, but overall a nice place to stay. Unfortunate air conditioning location in the bathroom, but not all rooms are like that.

The food at this inn is so delicious! It is very expensive but worth the money. Fine dining at its best. Good for vegetarians.

Thoroughly enjoyed a stellar afternoon tea .... feather light scones with decadent clotted cream , elegant finger sandwiches bursting with flavours such as coronation chicken ....a delight to experience from start to finish... bravo!

Not quite the fabulous place we enjoyed when Edward owned it but we understand that the new owner has plans to renovate and make good changes in the dining room where Michael Sullivan will still be chef. The introduction of afternoon tea is a welcome one and we look forward to giving it a try. The room we stayed in for $350 a night on the main floor is in dire need of an upgrade. I really hope the place doesnt lose the historic charm after the reno--that would be a real shame.

Just spent three days at the Merrill and was totally happy with the experience. Room was comfortable but not as remarkable as the wonderful food in the restaurant and the most obliging/attentive staff. The owner has great plans for upgrading the rooms etc and if that catches up with the food this place will be truly outstanding.

Great service, great food, great venue

The rooms were clean and the staff were extremely friendly. We had booked a package deal where we had lunch provided for us the next day when we went out on a wine tour. Everything was exactly as we thought it should be and was fantastic. We also dined at the restaurant in the basement of the inn and the food was exceptional. Highly recommend!

Trish is a fantastic hostess. So fun and full of life. We attended a wine and cheese tasting they had, although we did not stay the night. Very nice inn. We would definitely stay there the next time we are out that way.

We had a very nice stay for a long weekend with their wine and dine package. Very comfortable hotel and delicious restaurant. The owners / operators are fantastic.

Our dinner was awesome! The staff was attentive and answered the few questions we had. The environment was romantic and the music wasnt too loud which was perfect for our anniversary. The steak I got was the best steak Ive had in years and my fiancees Cornish game hen that she said was the best prepared poultry shes ever had.

I think we had a bad experience we were not expecting it to be in the basement I think on a nice summer evening with the doors open to their below grade patio it may have been nicer and without the three couples beside us that wreaked like a perfume shop

We booked knowing that it would be a very nice experience, with Chef Michaels culinary talents and the rich historical atmosphere it will easily be one of our fondest memories, the staff are very personable and accommodating.. Picton is a gem, and we will be returning soon..
