We stayed for one night with my wife and child. The room and the view were decent, but given the price, we were expecting a newer room. The breakfast situation was an absolute mess. Heather seemed stressed, overworked (?), and was blatantly rude to most customers, especially those under the age of 60. She was rude from the moment we sat down and was complaining about other customers. It felt like we were causing trouble just by coming to breakfast. The breakfast itself was filling, but mediocre in taste. Since our baby usually sleeps for 1-2 hours around 9-10 AM, I asked if we could check out an hour late. However, the older lady at the reception was so far from understanding and communication that she immediately refused. I understand that If hotel was fully book it is not possible. However, the problem is her attitude which is very arrogant. Then, with great reluctance, she granted an extra 30 minutes. Even then, after 11:00 AM, the room key stopped working, and I couldn't open the door. It was surprising to be treated so rudely and uncomfortably in a place where you pay for service.

Spend one night for the countylicious package. Which included dinner and breakfast. We had a room with a hot tub. Room was nice and big with a nice view. Rooms are outdated but clean. Dinner and breakfast were okay, expected a higher quality of meals based on the dinning promo. As far as the service goes I feel there is a lot of room for improvement. Overall not worth the money spent for a room with dinner.

One month ago, our son and his wife were married at The Waring House. I can’t say enough about this venue for a wedding. The setting and accommodations were absolutely beautiful, the food was divine, the service was exceptional, and the staff were very accommodating and excellent to deal with. The wedding coordinator, Melinda, was very good. She had everything down to a science. Everything went off without a hitch. Kudos to Jenn, the bartender and Heather from the dining room and who helped with the reception serving the food. They and all of the staff there are very dedicated, hard workers. Thank you to everyone there, who helped make that day so very special. Sincerely Jo-Ann and Len Stead. Halifax, NS

Reservations cancelled by the Waring House without notice. Well, my friends and I made reservations on a Tuesday for Amelia’s Garden for lunch on the Saturday at 12:30pm. We arrived at 12:30pm to be told our reservations were cancelled because of a bus tour/trip coming to dine in the dining room. No one called us to tell us they were cancelled. All of us drove more than an hour to enjoy a nice lunch. We were directed to the pub. The atmosphere was not what we were expecting. We decided to try the pub since we were already there and our chauffeur had dropped us off. The food was okay the atmosphere was definitely a pub atmosphere. But definitely not what we had anticipated and read on the menu for Amelia’s garden. One of us was paying with cash and the waiter told us she could not give us change back. All in all a huge disappointment. If you make reservations be prepared for them to cancel with no notice.

Our daughter's wedding Good morning Melinda, I wanted to reach out to you to say thank you for the amazing job that you and your staff did for us. Many of our guests commented on how wonderful and friendly everyone was and that they all felt at home and relaxed throughout the wedding. Thank you for that as it definitely made everything go smoothly. We had a great party afterwards as is the tradition for our family (we love a good party...lol). I hope that you remembered to take one of the centerpieces as a thank you from us to you. Take care, Yours dincrrley, mother of the bride

We stayed at their Quacker Lodge building for 2 nights. Room was big and clean, very comfortable mattress. Check-in and check-out were quick and smooth. Great location, quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was served in Amelia's garden, very nice view, food was just ok nothing special, but they definitely need improvement for customer service and cleanliness in the restaurant. Both days I found my cup dirty and the staff appearance wasn't appropriate things such as food stains on their shirts etc don't make you feel good about what are you eating. Overall we enjoyed our stay more than the food there.

Our server, Sarah, was exceptional. Couldn't have had better service anywhere. The food was delicious, perfectly balanced with unique ingredients. Beautiful gardens full of life to entertain you during your meal. It's been a few years since I've been here, and I highly recommend.

We (group of 6) spent family day at the Waring house and signed up for the cooking class. The cooking class was wonderful and David was a great instructor and wealth of information, we made more food than we could eat and had a great time doing it. Staff at the resort and restaurants were friendly and helpful, while I don't remember everyone's name Heather was a delight. The pub had live music and was a great get together. The resort was lovely and I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in the summer, guess that will be a good excuse for to go back! Breakfast was full menu and included, I was expecting a continental style. Thank you everyone for a great mini family vacation, surpassed any expectations I had. Brenda Patterson

I brought my daughter for special Christmas Buffet dinner and was not disappointed! Nora the owner was so inviting, she made us feel like family... Chef David F. Correa has inspired a menu that is truly honoring local produce. Staff were excellent and inviting..Shama, Jenn, Scott, Don and Norah were so friendly and professional they made the event even more special! Chef David F. Correa came out to meet the guests and take pictures on request... Time with loved ones is precious and today was even more so.. Thanks everyone at the Waringhouse - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Four of us went for lunch and had the 12 dollar soup which by definition had many things in it as well as covered in cheese. It was like drinking water. No buns or crackers of any sort. One of us had a small salad and believes he got food poisoning. He went the rest of the day and last night getting sick. Not only was it 12 dollars for one bowl of so called soup but we had to pay tax. We will never be back

I was at the Waringhouse restaurant in Picton yesterday for lunch with my wife and friends. We were really looking forward to a delicious lunch, but that was not the case. One of our friends was served cold soup and burnt quiche. I ordered the Irish lamb shepherds pie which turned out to be reheated ground beef with frozen vegetables and a scoop of potato on top. The only thing I got from my lunch was indigestion. I m won t be coming back again and recommend people be wary of this pathetic attempt of a restaurant.

Arrived withe 2 other couples for a meal from the Countylicious menu on Thursday night. One other table with 4 people arrived as well. Staff was efficient and drinks and meals ordered. My salad course arrived and was tasty but the the brown spoiled arugula that I had to separate. Dinners arrived for all and most were disappointing to some degree. Vegetables were cold, pasta was mushy, lamb leg was overcooked, ostrich was tough and chewy. Bread was stale and croutons were rock hard. So out of character for Amelias Garden.

Loved the place ! We stayed in room 14 clean , Beds were comfortable. We did the meal package ( cannot remember what they called it ) when I did the math . The whole stay was very reasonable . When you consider the great supper and the great breakfast and break down what you would pay for the meals etc. I think is was very reasonable ! For any one wanting to take some photos, check out base31 . Great old building as well as did lake shots etc. There was a little gathering room in our building . 8 of us just sat there talked and partaked in some beverages , Very relaxing . Thank you !

Leaving a two star review because they ask for a $50 deposit after already paying for the room. THEY WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU WILL GET REFUNDED (-2.50 per person). THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOU. We travelled with friends and they were treated terribly. ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR BILL BEFORE LEAVING. They have added numerous charges to our friends. I was completely embarrassed since I was the one that found this place. The people and servers were nice and accommodating but expect to wait to get seated.

I made reservations earlier in the week. We arrived, no one available to seat us. Eventually an older woman arrived and snapped, do you have reservations. I said yes. She couldnt find them. We were Eventually seated after I had to deal with her saying we didnt have reservations. The service was terrible the entire even. The food was mostly good. Not overly impressed.

I dislike giving a bad review however I expected much more for a $340.00 a night room. My husband and I rented one of the garden cottages with courtyard. Worst two nights weve ever spent. The room was dirty, dated with dust and cobwebs on the light fixtures, with a bed that squeaked badly each time you moved and an air-conditioner that went off every 15 minutes and sounded like a 747 taking off making sleep impossible. A tiny room for the toilet, a miniscule hole in the wall as a closet, with tub\shower in the main room near the foot of the bed. The courtyard where the hot tub was hadnt been weeded perhaps in months making sitting outside really unappealing (nothing like their advertisement shows and not to mention 3 holes large enough to fall into outside our courtyard and covered with some poorly placed skids as covers). The included breakfast was just so so but the dinners were quite good but very expensive for what we got ( a slab of salmon with 1\3 piece of corn on the cob, 2 tiny spears of asparagus, a small glass of wine and a beer, a tiny piece of cheesecake $170.00. I will say the live entertainment on our last night was excellent however we will never stay there again.

Stay away from this hotel! We booked a room in part of the hotel called the House Next Door. The whole building smelled musty. Our room was hot and stuffy as the window AC was never turned on. There were at least five bugs on the curtains (they entered from the outside through the gaps in the balcony door).

Our recent stay (our 2nd) was a disaster, First we were told we could not have the same room with the hot tub as it required a 2 night stay (rule change) our room ($365.00) was in need of a reno, our shower dribbled water and was useless, Dinner with friends was satisfactory ($250.00) Arriving for breakfast we were told the cook had called in sick, and so, My omelet was burnt, my husbands sausages were impossible to cut as I think they had been cooked days ago, and my pancakes were raw, our server saw all this and aplogized , Our efforts to resolve this issue with Nora (Owner) resulted in her offer of $15.00 refund which we refused, So we strongly recommend you research other vacation spots before booking THE WARING HOUSE Rory & Helen Grant

We stayed for two nights during the Labour Day long weekend. It is a beautiful place, the grounds are really very pretty and the house where the pub and restaurant are is gorgeous. We ate in the pub one night and the food was really good, they also had live music but we didnt get to stay for that as we were attending a concert at Base 31. Breakfast both mornings was delicious and the service was fantastic. The restaurant was really busy both mornings but we didnt have to wait very long for a table. Now, the rooms, while very comfortable, need a little love. The carpets were badly stained and the furniture was showing its age. The bed was very comfortable and we had a very spacious king suite which was very nice. Unfortunately the building we were in, I think it was called the Quaker, had a very dingy lobby that reminded us of a funeral home, it really wasnt pleasant entering it each time we arrived back, but it didnt affect our stay at all, just something to mention. The room was also stifling hot, despite having air conditioning...we could not turn it down past 24 so sleeping was a bit difficult for both of us. All in all we had a pleasant stay.

Beautiful venue, delicious food, amazing service The Waring House hosted our fortieth wedding anniversary celebration for us on September 1st, and everything was perfect!! This is an absolutely beautiful venue inside and out. Our event began with a garden party on the very pretty flower-laden grounds and continued with a buffet luncheon in the elegantly decorated Waring Hall. We have had so many compliments from our guests about the decor and the delicious food and its presentation on the buffet. And we are so grateful for the friendly, attentive, and accommodating staff. Everything we had asked for was done perfectly! Thank you, Waring House! You have made us -- and our 80 guests -- very happy!

We had a fabulous weekend at The Waring House in Picton, Ontario. It was our 50th wedding anniversary and I planned a surprise dinner for my wife that included 17 family members. From the time we checked in to the time we departed everything was as promised and the staff were so gracious and accommodating. The breakfast servers, especially Heather, were quick with the coffee and the meals were over the top. The second night was the big surprise dinner. The Prince Edward room was set up perfectly and I must draw particular attention to the waiter that worked the room. Jim is absolutely the best waiter I have ever met! He catered to ten adults getting drinks and appetizers all the while looking after the urgent requests from 6 little kids. He kept our glasses full and never tired getting another Shirley Temple for one of the kids. He definitely wins server of the year! Every meal we ordered off the menu was fantastic. All of us ordered different items and no one was disappointed. I would highly recommend either of their restaurants. Every staff member we met did their upmost to make our stay enjoyable. We stayed in the Cottage which like everything else was perfect in every way. We enjoyed the intimate surroundings it gave for our very special occasion. The little things like high quality towels and bed linen added to the luxurious atmosphere. I would highly recommend The Waring House to anyone visiting Picton, Ontario. You won t be disappointed!

We stayed at in the Inn overnight for 1 night. The room was spacious and we had a beautiful balcony to sit on with a lovely view. Unfortunately the room needed some simple touch ups and some larger renos. There were a lot of scuff marks on the walls that could simply be touched up with a magic eraser. There was also quite dirty looking caulking around the shower. It needs to be replaced. Some larger renos- the carpet was wrinkled/large creases in some areas and a tripping hazard. The breakfast situation was an absolute mess . Heather appeared stressed, overworked (?), and was blatantly rude to the majority of customers; especially if they were under the age of 60. She was rude from the moment we sat down and was complaining about other customers. There was no system to state what room you were in - to confirm you even were staying at the Inn. The food was below subpar and not at all what I would have expected from an establishment that has a Cookery School as part of their business. We do not feel like the services rendered matched what was promised with our stay. Yes, the room was spacious, but having booked a premium room - we had expected more updated/detailed cleaning/maintenance of the room. During breakfast at one point we debated just lesving because of how bad it was. No one else in the dining room seemed very happy either and many did not know how to respond to Heather s remarks and behaviour. In addition, when I did ask the front desk about giving feedback on our stay/experience they did hand me the manager s card. I feel like they could have asked what the concerns were; possibly being able to rectify the issue/solve the problem before we left. They didn t attempt to even ask what the issues were. I had attempted to email management several times to see how they could rectify our issues and give them a chance to make it right. No one responded after several email attempts. It has now been a month or so since we stayed with continued radio silence.

Stayed here over night after a friends wedding. Everyone was very nice across the board. Daniel at the pub, stuck out to us alot as he was just wonderful;so friendly, genuine and attentive. Plus the food was great. The ladies that were working at breakfast ,I believe Heather and the English lady ( sorry I didnt catch her name) Were great. They were short staffed but hustling, working so hard, and trying to keep going. The food was good, not extraordinary but still good. The room was nice and cute, some maintenance maybe needs done for the peeling paint, but it was still lovely, and clean. We hope to come back in the future, and exprience more of what the facility offers. Dietary restrictions: Maybe to have some more gluten free replacements

We had our wedding at the Waring House this summer and we can safely say that we had a great memorable time. Melinda the wedding event coordinator did an excellent job, and the Waring house staff was amazing and professional. The food and service was great. The garden was a beautiful place for the ceremony and the dining hall was spacious enough for around 110-120 people.

Went for dinner with friends. Not a good experience. I will rate our choices - Spinach salad - 7/10 Caesar salad - 7/10 Cheddar apple soup - very thin and watery 6/10 Vegetable rolls - awful 1/10 - no flavour Lamb shank - dry and tasteless 3/10 Korean short rib - sinewy and tasteless, more bone than meat - 1/10 Salmon, 7/10 Stuffed chicken - very dry and tasteless 5/10 Don t recommend, very overpriced, won t return. Had not seen our friends for a while, was expecting a much better dining experience, so disappointed.

A lovely lunch today with exceptional service from Jenn. We arrived early and she asked if we could wait until she finished vacuuming - a big plus as some restaurants do not bother with this attention to detail. She was cheerful, efficient and made our birthday celebration amazing. With special thanks to the birthday candle on the creme brule! At first we made reservations for Amelias Garden Seasonal Dining but that was horrible. It is too cramped and the waiter brushed the back of my head over and over again. The guy obviously should have been working in a low class bar because he handled our water glasses by the rims and one was dirty. Having had enough we moved to the pub and service was good but the food was not what I would call pub grade. I had the Sheppards pie and there was almost no meat in it, mostly a watery gravey. My wifes fish and chips was passable but the tatar sauce tasted like sour mayonaise. I would not recommend this place to anyone I know and at this point regret the decision taken to go there. Sadly only in town for one night and it really did not make my visit memorable in a good way.

This review is strictly for the restaurant staff and not the front desk/cleaners as they were very kind and the property/room we stayed in was adorable! Everything here was lovely but the morning service at the restaurant was some of the worst Ive ever had. The hostess was too lazy to walk us 5 feet to our table, but walked everyone else in line to their seats. She pointed us to a corner and told us to go sit there and didnt provide menus until I got up and asked (meanwhile, the table next to us that had been seated AFTER us were given menus and not to mention, were walked to their tables!). When we were low on coffee, we both watched the server go to every table and give refills to all, glance at our empty cups, and continue on to the next table to refill. So you offer to everyone else but choose to treat us differently for whatever reason (cough racist much?). We ended up asking for a refill when they eventually served us food and luckily got that cup filled. But an hour or so later when we asked for another refill (because again, theyre never offered to us like the rest of the diners), we again watched her go to every table to refill and she never came back to ours. You know its bad when even if the breakfast is free, wed rather pay to eat at Baileys down the street (which was a much more pleasant experience and GREAT service). Funny thing is the next day we ran into a couple from the inn at Baileys too. Please fire these miserable servers - they dont deserve to be employed here and really put a damper on the experience for everyone.

We recently stayed at the Waring House utilizing the Just for Fun Package. Our accommodations were the House Next Door. The room furnishing (i.e. bed had a distinctive lump in the middle, curtains barely hanging on their rods) are worn-out. As well the room had a musty smell and dampness as were the sheets due to inadequate ventilation. There was a small deck available just off the room however all the chairs were covered in green moss, therefore unusable. A central sitting room has had a floor level A/C unit removed with no attempt to close-off the opening from the outside environment. Upon our arrival we decided to eat at the Barley Room Pub. We seated ourselves in clear view of two staff at the bar. Neither made any attempt to acknowledge us. Eventually, other staff did arrive from elsewhere within the pub but loudly announced that there were no food menus available. At that point we decided to leave and enjoyed a lovely beer and pizza at Brew 555 (highly recommend) Food and staff were adequate at breakfast (however overall customer service training/refresher is definitely in order). Included in the package was a three course supper together with gratuities which was sub par. We ordered the chicken and pork both were dry and barely edible crème brule was tasteless but nice crust. When we informed the server that the meal was part of our package (as requested to do by reception upon check in were told too bad he was still giving a bill (interestingly with a tip option) and told it was up to us to settle with the office the next day. At both breakfast and supper the surroundings table walls were dirty and require a deep-clean. Lastly, while settling our bill upon departure we were charged our full supper and had to have the bill re-done this did not surprise any of the 3 staff at reception and named the wait staff in question (should this not be addressed?) no one asked how our stay had been which I guess is indicative of the overall experience.

Visited the County and stayed the night at Waring House (been there a number of times before), using a Travelzoo promotion. From the gardeners, housekeepers, receptionists, dining room wait staff and bar staff - all were exceptionally friendly and helpful. This is either indicative of good management/small-town Ontario hospitality or both. The accommodation reflects a period of time when everything had a comfortable feel to it. We stayed in one of the original buildings. The food was exceptional as one would expect from a place that includes a well-respected cooking school. A full and delicious breakfast in included with a nights stay. Not being techies, we knew we were in trouble when we saw the laminated 2-page instruction as to how to operate the TV. Perhaps partnering with a better TV/Internet service would be in order. Waring House has an excellent web site which explains the Innkeepers philosophy and description of/reasons for the decor. Great place for special occasions such as weddings. The Innkeeper is environmentally conscious and the buildings and grounds reflect that.

The good: the people were all very nice. The view from our balcony was nice, the bed was very comfortable, the soaker tub was wonderful. The bad: they didn t have our dinner reservation so a table was set up for us. Other tables didn t have anyone sit at them so that was odd that they had to sit us in the corner and set up a table for us. The food at Amelia s at dinner was clearly leftovers that were poorly heated up. The vegetables were so salty that we couldn t eat them. We both had stomach issues afterwards. Breakfast was pretty good though. The shower water trickled out so we could rinse off a little but couldn t wash our hair. We were told the pub gets busy so go early to get a seat. We thought we d be fine standing at the bar. What they meant is that the pub is very small, there is no standing room and they get to capacity by about 5/6pm. We couldn t experience the music, or the pub at all, we were turned away. Not a good or bad thing but FYI, the crowd at the BnB, the restaurant and the pub were all 60+. Which explains the decor. I wouldn t go back but it wasn t terrible.

For some unknown and unexplained reason we were made to wait a full hour before we were allowed access to the under heated Easter buffet. Clearly a cluster fubar of epic proportion. Our previous half dozen pleasant experiences at emelias garden overshadowed by this miserable experience. We wont be going back anytime soon. As hotel guests, we felt doubly underappreciated, as we had prepaid for this less than satisfactory experience.

Four of us arrived with a reservation on Monday April 8th. Yes, it was the day of the eclipse but since the restaurant had reservations, they should have planned accordingly especially for meals ordered off of the fixed Countylicious menu. Our server was kind but overwhelmed as he was also serving as the bartender. He was held back from serving food in a timely manner because it wasnt coming out of the kitchen. 30 minutes to get drinks, another 45 minutes for appetizers and another hour for dinner. We ordered from the Countylicious menu, which should mean that food is planned and available to serve quickly. One of us ordered the beet and goat cheese salad but with no beets. It never arrived, despite repeated requests. Three of us ordered the pork medallions....2 little pieces of dried, shriveled, bland pork. The server tried his best but with no food coming out of the kitchen within a reasonable time flow, he couldnt do much. I see from previous reviews that the flow of food being brought out to patrons has not been resolved, despite assurances from Management that it would be. Being a fine dining restaurant with culinary training on site, we expected more than waiting an hour between courses, not receiving an appetizer and then receiving sub-standard food. We all said that it was one of the worst meals weve ever dined on. We were considering signing up for culinary classes but wont do that now, nor return to this joke of a restaurant.

April 22, 2024

Twas the night before the eclipse, and all through the town, everyone was hungry because of the restaurant owning clowns. Not one restaurant in town was prepared for the added traffic of the eclipse. Sad sad management. We arrived at the Waring House and had to wait maybe 5 minutes for a table. We had been here many times before but probably never again. We were served our drinks after about 30 minutes at which point we ordered dinner. An hour later we ordered a second round of drinks because our food STILL wasnt there. When the waitress returned, she told us the kitchen was now closed and we would not be getting fed. This after 1.5 hours?! The bartender insisted I leave my phone number and someone would call and fix things because she agreed this wasnt right to treat a customer like this. While speaking with the bartender, the owner came over and asked what was wrong. He recognized me as a repeat customer. I was under the impression Id get some sort of phone call like promised but NOTHING. We left and realized all the other restaurants in town were closed. Thank you Waring House for a very memorable empty stomach that many other County people will hear about.

The Waring House, near Picton, ON, is an excellent place to stay and dine. This Inn has several, different lodgings, spread out, over the property. We stayed in the Quaker Buiding and found our room to be quite large, clean and comfortable. The Main Building houses an English Pub, with nightly entertainment and an adjacent Dining Room, which overlooks their beautiful gardens. There is a world renowned Chef on site, who is responsible for the fine dining. Our waiter at dinner was Michael, who was very friendly and knowledgeable. In the morning, our waitress was Heather. She too, was very warm and helpful. Maggie, at the Front Desk, also impressed me with her quick service and affable nature. I found also, that the prices were quite reasonable, considering this is a first class Inn. So be sure to consider staying at the Waring House, the next time youre near Picton, ON, Herb T.

This used to be our go to spot but recent changes in the kitchen must have taken the quality to the lowest weve ever seen. This region is going through culinary transformation as a top tourist spot yet this place is going backwards in a big way unfortunately. We will not be back until they start serving the way they used to. The steak was very chewy and the battered fish was full of bones

The staff were excellent! We are a young couple and enjoyed our last minute getaway for new years Eve. This is not a cookie cutter place so expect some things to be dated, but our room was clean and again all staff from reception to the restaurant were kind and accommodating (on likely one of the busiest nights of the year). Our main drive to select this hotel was the private hot tub for two, which was perfect! We enjoyed every second of our soak. The food at the new years eve was not up to our trips expectations, but I would be willing to visit again on a less busy night. Recommend a stay, but again remember this is not a brand new hotel, so think about all the folks who work hard to keep things clean and comfortable. We will be back again :).

Very interesting experience here. All looked nice when entering our cabin until we noticed bugs all over the place including on the pillows. We were supposed to have a private area outside of the cabin with a hot tub (that smelled and was not even hot). Multiple people walked into our area while we were in the hot tub and in the open field behind the hot tub. We left right away after that. Have called and emailed multiple times with no reply at all. They clearly are aware of these issues as I see many similar reviews and just don t seem to care. The owner only seems to respond to the very few good reviews. Pretty sad.

My husband and I went to Waring House Amelia Garden for our anniversary on Feb 2 2023. Although the aged cheddar and apple soup was good and my stuffed chicken was good, my husbands pan seared catch of the day was not. The meal was fishy (we were told it was pickerel and fresh pickerel is not fishy) and it was bones ( most chefs and assistants know to pull bones). It was so bad he gave up trying to eat it. We let staff know the problem but nothing was done not even an offer of a replacement meal. We expected better given our meal was almost $150

Great discovery in a beautiful region! We were given a room superior to what we had reserved, decoration and atmosphere worthy of a small inn. Very warm and relaxing, clean and well maintained. We will come back during the summer to take advantage of the place and the outdoor layout.

We stayed 2 nights during our time in prince Edward county for a wedding, the staff were very helpful and patient. Our complimentary breakfast was better than what we expected from your usual hotel breakfasts. The pub was a bit pricy for lunch however the food was excellent. Would stay here again if in the area. The only issue we had was when we got back from the wedding late, the key would not open the main doors to our building and noone was at the front desk this late. Thankfully we were staying with other people who let us in but hopefully this problem they can resolve for others.

The vegetarian option was fantastic. Probably the best Ive had there yet. Enjoyed by non vegetarians as well. The vegetables and garlic were roasted perfectly and the tomato sauce was very complimentary. The salads and desserts were enjoyed by all. Some salads had many strawberry slices, others had none, which was disappointing for those who had none Enjoy your day my friends Vegetarian options: Just wonderfully done! Kid-friendliness: Only one child and her meal was chicken fingers. She loved them

This restaurant was recommended to us by our neighborhood. The atmosphere is historically nice, the wines were excellent. The main course was pretty disappointing though. Even though we waited over half an hour, the vegetables were cold, the side dishes were lukewarm and overcooked, and only the meat was freshly fried. A plate like this shouldnt leave a kitchen of this quality class.

We have been coming here for our anniversary dinner for 9 years, and food and service has been excellent! Love the fresh rolls, but can only get them in the Amelia s fine dining section. This year (July, 2023) was disappointing; with a limited menu, many of our orders were incorrect, not available, and slow service. First, they did not have meatloaf even though it was on the menu. Second, I was really looking forward to the new menu item caprese salad, but that was a disappointment too (no heirloom in season tomatoes, very small mini bocconcini cheese cut in half, and tomatoes cut very thin). The fresh basil and balsamic drizzle was the best part! The child s size mac and cheese my 8 year old son ordered was less than palatable due to the strange flavours added (nutmeg, allspice????). It was just not good. They did, however, bring him butter noodles, which he originally ordered. Positives: The waitress was very pleasant and apologetic, but several food items were incorrect. The spinach artichoke dip appetizer and onion rings were amazing, steak and mushroom pie was amazing, the coffee was great, the bacon mac and cheese was great but could have used more cheese.

Appalling service. They don t bother to even acknowledge you when you walk in. We hung around waiting for someone to acknowledge us and tell us if a table was available. He travelled all over the world and worked at first-class restaurants. The session started with the trip to the herb and vegetable garden and we were able to pick the items we were using during the class. Chef David not only shows how to do things, he also observes you and provides feedback when you are prepping or cooking. Overall 5 out of 5, would gladly repeat.

Not impressive at all. The dining experience which we were most excited about was lack Lustre. Not worth it for pub like food. Waitress was a miserable woman who gave attitude off the bat and even made a comment about how of course we choose the most expensive thing on the menu when we bought a package weekend overnight stay. Very rude and poor service. Property was decent but not worth the stay dealing with a witch like that for a server. Do not recommend this place unless you want to risk having a disappointing anniversary weekend. Its nothing special at all.

My friend is a 75 years old and healthy. My friend had two shots of whiskey and asked for a third shot of whiskey but the bartender refused to serve it to him. My friend was not drunk. We can back for dinner at 7 PM. We tried to order a glass of wine but the manager refused to serve us any alcohol. We could only order food. We immediately left and went to another restaurant. We will never return to the Waring House again. We were guests at the hotel for two nights.

We had fish n chips which was tasty. Waitress was a doll and you could see she cared and was trying her best. It was a volatile rating in the sense that there were definitely moments I wanted to give it a one-star but I finally landed at 3 because of the breakfast server. - Check-in process for our one night stay was smooth but tasteless. We got put into the main guest house on the second floor. The staff at the reception did not seem very welcoming. - The main guesthouse has its old charm but we were absolutely freaked out by the two mannequins sitting outside. We were told later on by the staff that they were supposed to be Prince Charles and Camilla (why them!?). - At night, this guest house feels quite scary. We stayed for 1 night on a Monday which the bar and the restaurant were closed. Apparently, we were the only ones staying there and it felt empty and haunted... - The hotel rooms are definitely dated and can use some upgrades. The floors are creaky and there was a huge gap under the room door. - The only thing that turned our experience around was the breakfast next morning. Not due to the food itself but because of how attentive, kind, fun the breakfast waitress was. She was a ball of energy running around serving everyone on her own. I cannot remember her name now but she was the star of our experience. Thank you! Overall, I wouldnt come back to the Waring House unfortunately.

December 22, 2023

Our dining experience at Amelia s Garden at the Waring House last night was terrible from start to finish. Upon being seated at our table, we noticed the water glasses were dirty. There were also two air vents on either side of our table that were blowing very cold air for the entirety of the evening. The waitress came to our table to take our orders after being seated for only a few minutes - way too rushed. We proceeded to order cocktails, starters and an entree each. Caesar salad was bland - too little dressing and the croutons and bacon tasted like they were from a box. Tomatoes on the caprese salad were decent but salad lacked buffalo mozarella and had a scarce three small pieces of basil to accompany it. Aged cheddar and apple soup was decent. Main courses we tried were the lamb, 8oz beef tenderloin and pickerel. Lamb was over cooked (despite ordering a medium sear) and was covered in an over salted brown sauce. Beef tenderloin was decent. Pickerel was very over cooked and looked like it was baked or microwaved - despite saying it would be pan seared per the menu. Sides were bland and cold. Same mixed vegetable sides were served with all entrees - vegetables tastes like they were previously frozen. All things noted above considered, the food was mediocre at best and was way overpriced for what we were served. Very disappointing to call themselves a fine dining restaurant - when the quality of food and atmosphere is not such at all. Moreover, very disappointed in the staff attitude. We were asked how we liked our meals and gave honest feedback (similar to above) - after which the restaurant manager came to speak with us. She was very confrontational and condescending when we advised of our experience and dislike of the food. She retorted by saying well everyone else who had the today loved it . Very unprofessional attitude, especially in a customer service role and industry. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting PEC. That said, the pianist at the restaurant yesterday evening was excellent and was the most pleasant part of the evening.

December 22, 2023

My husband and I stayed at the Waring House mid-week on August 9-11, 2023. We purchased the Just For Fun Package. There were some underlying concerns, in particular, the dinner at Amelia s Garden. Inconsistent service: first server came to our table and gave us menus and a beverage menu. Second server came over and asked if we would like menus. Clearly no communication with the other server; looked noticeably confused. In all fairness to both servers, they may have been new and not properly trained. Some got bread, others did not. We were seated at a table that was set for 4 even though we were 2. Remaining tableware and table should have been removed giving more room and a less cluttered look. At no point did the server top up our wine glasses. The gentleman who greeted us upon arrival to the restaurant was older, very tall with glasses. We assumed that he was the evening Manager. A little after 8pm he gave some last-minute instructions to the staff and gave our server her hours and said, I will see you next Thursday. Who was now in charge? Was anybody? If there was no Manager and our server was not properly trained, customers would not get the proper service. We both ordered the Beef Tenderloin. When bringing our entrees to the table, they were mixed up. That could have been the server or the kitchen s fault. Visually the entrees looked very uneven and there was no finesse in plating and no wow factor. The entrees came with fingerling potatoes, sliced carrots, broccoli, miniature yellow squash, and green and yellow beans. There was very little taste, and the vegetables and potatoes needed more time. Was the top chef even working that night? On our last day of our visit we had a conversation with Heather indicating our concerns and if the Inn Keepers are serious about any concerns. She indicated to write down our concerns and leave your contact information and she would pass our note to the Inn Keepers as they make frequent stops and they take concerns very seriously and that they would contact us, but we never heard back from them. We also followed up with a telephone call with Heather and she indicated that she gave them our note directly to them, but no response whatsoever. We wonder if they take any concerns seriously. We have been coming to the Waring House for almost 10-12 years in the summer and sometimes in the fall. The ambiance in Amelia s Garden continues to be dated and looks the same for the past several years. We keep seeing the service decline throughout the years. Initially when we booked by phone, we were told one price for the package, then when we checked out, it turned out to be a lot more expensive then originally quoted. No itemization of final price was provided. We love taking a drive to the County but we would not be inclined to book at the Waring House in the future.

Stayed at the waring house 3 nights for work. on my first night I ordered food from a restaurant in Picton, when I had left to pick up the food and returned my room key was not working. I walked over to reception which was closed, it was only 8pm at the time. I called the phone number for the hotel and when someone finally answered it had directed me to the restaurant who advised me that reception was closed and to come over to the bar while he figured out how to help me. The bartender Robert was very nice and friendly and tried his best to help me, which was the only decent encounter I had with the staff during my stay. He let me know that they were trying to get ahold of someone who would be able to make me a new room key, he said the owner was just leaving Kingston and would be a while. At this point I was ready to drive home and just make the drive in the morning for work. When I left he chased me down in the parking lot and let me know someone would be there soon. But at this point I had already waited an hour and my dinner was cold. On my second night I was lying in bed and turned over to turn off the lamp on the side table, I look beside me and there was an earwig in my bed!!! I could barely get any sleep thinking that there was more and by the look of the room it was very dated and poorly cleaned which didn t surprise me that there was bugs in the room. Upon checkout I was told I m good to go, then was chased into the parking lot and interrupted during a zoom call with work that they needed me to come sort out an issue. I went back into reception and was told that I needed to pay some fee which the front desk lady Angela told me was a municipality fee . I told her to charge it to the card on the room which the company I work for supplies during hotel stays. She informed me there was no card on file. I told her to look in her email which she refused. She told me you can just pay it and if it is for work you can just write it off. At this point I was missing and important zoom meeting and just agreed to pay the mysterious fee. She handed me a debit receipt which I am not able to use for my expense report as there is no information on what I had paid for. When I asked for an invoice or an itemized receipt she told me no she can t give that to me. Absolutely ridiculous as you just charged me and would not give me any proof of what you just charged me for. I will not be back and I advise everyone to steer clear of this establishment. The rooms are disgusting, food is sub par, hotel staff are non existent when you need them and when they are present they are very rude and unhelpful. I would have given zero stars if the option was available.

We stayed here for a weekend wedding and were given a room in The House Next Door building. This building has not been updated or refurbished in a long, long time. It is dank, dark and very musty smelling. The decor is grandma s house and the mattresses on the beds may very well have been hers too! I m really disappointed because the other buildings have been refurbished yet our room was still in the $240 per night price point. In fairness this did include breakfast. The staff are friendly but seem a bit overwhelmed so service was painfully slow for dinner. 2 people we dined with ordered from the dinner menu presented and 15 minutes later were told they couldn t order the items on the page they chose from because that page was exclusively for diners sitting not 15 feet away in the adjoining dining room!! When the food we were allowed arrived after another 45 minutes the bottle of wine took another 20 minutes to arrive. The upside is the outdoor space is lovely. Just not worth the price.

Came for a staff Christmas meal. It took 45 minutes to place our order even though the restaurant and bar were basically empty. Our sad smoked fish trio starter came with an unappetising arrangement of badly presented fish segments with an old lemon wedge and mould spots on the bread. We sent it back and no one came to apologise or even acknowledge the disgusting oversight. If this were a dive bar with dive bar prices, that would be one thing, but these are fine-dining prices that neither the service nor the quality of food justify. For whoever might read this from the Waring House: the staff were friendly and doing their best, this is obviously a management issue. Lack of oversight, vision and bad hospitality principles. I will not be returning and I would not recommend anyone visit this establishment until they get their house in order.

We started out with drinks in the pub before moving over to the dining area for our dinner reservation. We were continued to be served by the same pub staff waiter in the dining room. We were the only table being served by this server. He obviously had the pub and us to take care of and only visited our table to take an order, bring food and the bill. We were not offered a wine list, rolls before dinner which we heard were great or asked us how everything was. We had to ask for water and ketchup, the later we never got. The food took 45 minutes to arrive, served pub style plating and was luke warm. For a nice dining experience, this was more like being in a local pub, which was very disappointing. Would I return or recommend, at this time no. More staff are needed for sure and little things like linen napkins would make this more of a dining experience. We were there for a birthday dinner and were disappointed. The birthday girl did get a complimentary desert, which was very nice but did not make up for the disappointing experience. Edit to the Waring House response: It was mentioned that I did not book the dining room. That is incorrect. I booked specially to be in the dining room and also called the day prior to confirm we were indeed in the dining room of the establishment. Hence why we were disappointed.

My partner and I ate at the Waring house on Sunday. The food was really lovely. I had a braised lamb shank with fingerling potatoes and veggies, all were cooked to perfection! I give this restaurant 4* instead of 5* because they did not have mint sauce or mint jelly!! WTH! who has a lovely lamb on the menu and doesn t offer mint sauce? Get with the program guys!

Booked and overnight for valentines day (our anniversary as well). We checked in and went to the bar for a drink prior to supper. We told staff we were ready to be seated in the restaurant and subsequently waited an additional 30 min - staff apologized. We ordered right away and then waited an additional 40 min for our 1st course of tomato soup, which was tepid. Complained to staff who apologized. Main course of steak arrived which was also barely warm. Went back to room for the night and in the middle of the night realized we were out of toilet paper with no additional rolls. Both the room and restaurant were great. Food was cold. Staff again apologized and offered compensation for our less than memorable experience. I contacted them twice and was assured a call back from management. Nothing heard.

Food was moderate, not spectacular. Our server was very kind, accommodating and a pleasure over all. We were gifted a giftcard for our wedding and when we went to pick it up the guest service attendant couldnt find it so we waited about 10 minutes to get that sorted out, an acknowledgment/apology for the wait would have been appreciated. We didnt mean to be a burden and absolutely felt like we were.

We are very disappointed, our first night , yes the beds are super comfortable, however the electrical is bizarre. Difficult to tell of the 4 lamps n the room which ones operate from wall switch, does the wall switch also operate the alarm clock which is located a fair distance from the bed next to the tv that appears we can t change the channel. Our room has a garden view which is a view of the parking lot and a bunch of weeds. Cheap in room coffee machine w/coffee mate. At the price we are paying, this place is very disappointing and would be hesitant to stay here again or recommend it.

Unprofessional Service on Check-in: I booked through Hotel Planner and called Waring House prior to the cancellation date to confirm that I was going to get a room on the second floor with a balcony. I was told by the resort that this could be accommodated. I even asked that they call me back if they could not accommodate my request. I received no call so I assumed everything was in order. I spoke to a girl named Kylie. When we went to check in I was told that Kylie was not a reliable employee and that my request could not be accommodated. They reception staff were very rude about the mistake and would not take responsibility for Kylies error. The 2nd floor balcony confirmation was critical in me not cancelling my stay and either a) not going to PEC at all or b) finding somewhere else as my husband and I like to sit outside in the evenings in the summer. This is why I called to confirm prior to the cancellation date. The only way Warling House told me they could accommodate my 2nd floor balcony requirement (rather than parking lot view with zero privacy) was for me to downgrade my room which meant a smaller room and giving up a king size bed for a double bed. They also refused to give me a price break or do anything to compensate for this and said that I should contact Hotel Planner instead as they were the ones I paid. Not only was it a double bed, but there was no elastic left on the bottom sheet (which was not deep enough for the thickness of the mattress anyways) so I had a very uncomfortable sleep as the sheet kept slipping off exposing the mattress which made me very uncomfortable for sanitary reasons. I should also note that there were upgraded rooms that sat vacant while I was forced to downgrade my room due to Kylies mistake. I feel for what they charge, the professional thing to do would be to have upgraded my room, given me a free drink in the restaurant or at the very least apologized for their mistake. Reception was very rude and I was very disappointed with this experience and it will definitely impact my choice on if I go back here or stay at an Air BnB.

We stayed in one of the suites for two nights recently. The rooms are quite large and clean but the decor is somewhat dated. Its quite a conservative setting and the culture in not really attentive to the customer experience. Its a place with a lot of rules and ensuring your customers are delighted is not one of them. Nothing major, just not customer focused. When we arrived after a 3 hour drive I went for checkin and presented by visa debit card used to reserve the room few days earlier. I was told quite forcefully by a teenager manager (red hair lady) that hotel policy was to accept only credit cards. I didnt want to create a big drama and having to look for a different place so I ask kindly if she could ask her manager if we can find a solution (by the way my wife was in the car and could have brought a credit card if it got to that). She picked up the phone, called her manager and said in front of me there is a customer here who says I am arguing with him by telling him our policy when what I said was: I dont want to argue with you, why dont you call your manager and ask if we can find an arrangement. Anyway, the manager said no problem, the customer just wont be able to charge anything to the room. So that was the welcome to this hotel. Next morning we went for breakfast on the premise. We were taken to a table but before sitting down we found another table nearby that seems to be quieter so we went there. The server rushed to us stating youre lucky the owner wasnt here as changing table is not allowed. There is no doubt senior management (and owners) set the tone for a companys culture. In this case, it is clear that ensuring the customer are delighted with their stay is not high on the priority list. Its an establishment from another era and I guess thats the way it goes. This being said, its a nice setting and we recommend you consider it when staying in Picton area.

I must have hit a bad weekend. Reception was not very welcoming. The pub and restaurant staff were great and one person even helped me get my suitcase to my room as I was in a building with no elevator. The restaurant appeared to be very short staffed in the mornings but the person in charge was gracious and was working very hard to satisfy everyone. Pray nothing goes wrong when you are there. I ate supper at the restaurant and 5 hours later was violently ill. I could not get anyone on the phone to get more toilet tissue in the middle of the night. The place was dead and no call was routed to security. At 7 in the morning I finally got through to security to deliver a roll of tissue. In the morning I went to reception to report two things: that I had become violently ill during the night after my dinner there and that there was no way to get toilet tissue in the middle of the night. There were no extras in my room beyond 1 refill which is not enough when one has....you know, massive sickness. The manager informed me that I could have gotten ill from food I ate during the day elsewhere. There was and still is no acknowledgement that maybe, just maybe, it happened after my meal there. I was fine before supper. And all I asked for was the following: 1. that the chef be notified that I had become ill in case something was off and to prevent others from the same malady 2. I asked for a refund for my supper from that evening. The Waring House management could have ended this complaint simply with a refund and the amount was not large at all. But I guess giving a refund means acknowledgement of my complaint. I struggle to think where else I might have eaten something that would cause massive diarrhea and vomiting at 11:30-2pm. Nonetheless after my persistence and follow ups with the Better Business Bureau and Picton Public Health, I got my small refund of 26.59 after 4 weeks of difficult communication and often, non-communication. They insist my sickness was not from their dinner. There is no way to prove this either way as I do not possess samples of my illness. I find it hard to collect a sample while being so ill. I am a senior who is in good shape. Compassion and better management skills would have made this situation disappear quickly. Perhaps the Waring House is more preferential with its mainstay, weddings and big catered events. The grounds are lovely, and people seem to enjoy themselves there. And the service staff, apart from reception and the manager, were stellar.

I was sold a room that was unusable. I called ahead and asked for a crib. They provided a collapsed play yard, but no mattress or sheet. Even if there had been a crib, there was no way to set it up without blocking the door, which is against fire code--Im guessing thats why they didnt assemble the play yard. They gave me a refund but didnt apologize for the massive inconvenience and expense of needing to find somewhere else to stay. Cute place, but they should just say that they cant accommodate families with infants. Also worth noting, the rooms were not accessible. There is no elevator.

We had an underwhelming dinner at Amelias Garden Dining room. Servers were excellent but It was pricey for what we got. $42 got myself a previously frozen steak, carrots, potatoes and broccoli. They were well seasoned but everything over cooked and the steak was dry. My wife had the locally caught pickerel which was around the same price. Her fish was overcooked and just bland. Because they have a Culinary school and the price of the dishes we assumed it would be a much higher quality meal that had some plating flair or even some garnishes. In short our meal wasnt terrible, just not what I consider fine dinning especially given the other restaurants in the area like the drake or the royal.

Based on a lot of positive Review s we drove from Ottawa to the Waring house for their end of July Sip, Savor and stay California event. A free breakfast and a $75/person dinner were included with our room package. Our room was ready for our 3pm checkin but we found that the wine glasses were not cleaned properly, the service tray was a bit dusty, and there was no plastic bag for the ice maker. That didn t really matter because the ice machine near our room (207) was broken, although we did eventually find ice in the building next door. Our suite was super spacious and the bed was a bit soft but still comfy. At least five light bulbs were burned out in the room and one lamp did not work at all. Our biggest concern was the constant electrical arcing sound coming out of the wall in the bathroom where the hair dryer plugs in. It crackled noisily all night and we were just waiting for the fire to break out making sleep illusive. The double patio at the back of this room was a peaceful delight, although planting a few trees would help the view. There was some ATV noise from the millennium trail right behind this building but mostly it was very quiet and serene. The Sip & Savor dinner started promptly at 7pm and was held in a large room with ample table spacing. There was a cash bar available from 6:30. The wait staff were super efficient and attentive as the four course meal, with wine pairings, was served. The two appetizers were tasty and the main meal, Bison rib eye steaks, was delicious but a bit tough to chew. Having never had Bison before perhaps this is just normal? Dessert was a chocolate delight. Fun!!! The expert wine MC was fun too! We did take issue with the $27 gratuity added to our bill at checkout the next morning. That was because we had specifically asked the evening desk manager, prior to dinner, if the meal gratuity was included in our $500 package and she said, yes! Unfortunately, Haley, the lovely morning desk clerk, had to explain this error to us and collect the extra $27. The breakfast buffet was great and Heather and the rest of the team did a great job managing a lot of people at the same time. We won t be back due to the room issues and the lack of character but if you don t mind a slightly dated facility then this is a good spot

The food was excellent, top notch. The pub bar was sticky and chairs not clean....could use major cleaning everywhere. I have always wanted to stay here but likely wont again. Breakfast staff were very nice and attentive but not very fulsome buffet. That was dissapointing. n o syrup! pancakes and french toast but NO syrup! lol kinda important. The best part of this stay were the wait staff because they smiled and appologized for delays and took a few minutes to recognize their customers. The Waring Restaurant (Amelia s Garden) where do I even begin? The grounds are incredible, nice to visit for the flowers and landscape. The Waring restaurant is connected to The Barley Room which is wonderful since if The Barley Room has a live band, it feels like you are right there! Firstly, the decor is very outdated and the atmosphere/ambiance was just okay (more of an older crowd). The hostess was great, was friendly, told us the specials of the day and had better customer service than our actual waitress. Firstly, the bread at the table was stale (hard as a rock); we informed the waitress and she said she would warm it up for us and when it came back it was worse! The menu was alright, not much selection, if you are a vegetarian or vegan look for another option. Secondly, for the rice ball appetizer the sauce was cold, tasted like they microwaved it. The entrees which we each ordered a different one; steak, chicken, & lamb were full of fat and no meat. To add, the vegetables tasted like the frozen ones you reheat in the microwave. The service was atrocious ( there were only maybe 4-5 other tables). The waitress only came back a few times throughout the whole time we were seated. Our water was empty before our entrees even got there and we asked for more water twice and never received it. This restaurant was recommended by our host and locals. The chef prides himself on working with local farmers and having fresh food , if he means the freezer and microwave than that is a whole new meaning to fresh . Also, the price you pay for the meal is not worth it. Would not recommend, go to the The Inn if you would like a fine dining experience with excellent service, food, drinks and you get a view of the lake.

Comfortable beds and spacious rooms in a rather average, old-fashioned style decor. As for the staff, they are not accommodating at all and I would even say borderline unfriendly. Also, dont forget anything in the room because you will lose it forever. Dont make any requests because they dont take them into account at all. I had requested 2 rooms close to each other when I made my reservation several months before my stay and we were placed in different buildings. I called 4 times to try to recover my large 12 charging cable with a multi-USB power supply from my cell phone forgotten in my room when I left and following a few messages on their answering machine and finally a little discussion with the gentleman at reception no return call ever. They show no interest, no effort to try to please their guests whatever the nature of the request. The quality of the dinner was disappointing but the included lunch was quite good. I will return to this region for sure but not to this hotel.

I think the Waring House has so much potential for a great wedding destination, romantic getaway and family vacation given its location and landscape. The Barley Room was great. There was live music on Thursday night. Food was decent. Atmosphere was lively. The rooms are a bit dated but they re huge and relatively comfy. We got a king suite which allowed us to put a crib for my toddler in the living room while my husband and I slept in the bedroom. I would keep the classic look but HIGHLY recommend the owners to refresh the furnishing and decor. Breakfast was included. The food was decent and lots to choose from. Staff was trying their very best in spite of shortages. One piece of advice for management: give the younger, newer wait staff a chance to thrive. I totally get that Heather is super passionate about her job, but she can t do it all by herself. There needs to be some growth for the new staff if you want to maintain the service. Spa was ok. I was a bit disappointed to learn that the massage we got was not RMT but that s my fault for not checking. It was still relaxing, but makes health insurance reimbursement a bit tricky. Overall it wasn t bad. My 2-year-old had a lovely time but I think this place could use a few updates to make it superb. I d still recommend it.

We stopped at the Waring House restaurant hoping for a good meal as suggested on their site. First of all, the two restaurants are very small; dont trust the photos. Despite the empty tables in the restaurant area, we were found a place in the Pub, explaining to us that it was the same menu for both restaurants; the Pub is very noisy. The Pepsi and Sprite style drinks tasted like sugary water without bubbles, the fried onions were fried flour, the fries were overcooked, the burger was supposed to be made with beef but we had beyond meat, the food was without taste. The waitress was honest with us, thats the only positive point. The locals seemed to like it, the best restaurant in the area it seems!!!

My friend ordered the stuffed chicken with risotto, veggies and roasted potatoes. When the plate arrived we thought it was a joke. Missing the risotto, veggies were completely raw and had one mini potato cut up into 4, chicken looked disgusting. Another couple nearby complained as well about their meal too. We sent the food back at there was no way that meal was worth $35. We ended up leaving and going to Chucks Roadhouse which isn t even in the same caliber but way more appetizing and cheaper. Would not be coming back. I get that they are going for an antique vibe but some things are so outdated and has an old smell once you enter. Had my wedding elopement recently at the waring house. At first this seemed like the perfect choice. A better no stress option for me and my fiance. But it was definitely not like that at all unfortunately. Breakfast at the waring house was a rating of 0/10. It came with a complimentary breakfast but it was not good at all. I ate what I could, but the food was not ediable. Also, my photographer for my wedding. WORST OF ALL! Unprofessional and seemed very new to the job, difficult communicating with. I gave him the benefit of the doubt but as to my regret he was not good at all and Im very unhappy with my photos.... Amateur, what my friend who is a professional photographer would say.. Ive had professional photography in the past and this was by far the worst Ive had. He did not know what he was doing and kept leaving it up to us for the poses. Sent us unedited photos.. but the unedited ones looked better then the edited ones. Seriously a hack job.... I was very very upset. Seemed to rush this a lot. And to top it all off they played the WRONG wedding song walking down the aisle. When I specifically told them which one to play. Disappointed is an understatement. Still waiting to hear back about my wedding photos as the photographer doesnt keep his word on answering us back. Also waiting to hear from the waring house.... what a mess. Beautiful area in prince edward county. But would not recommend for a wedding. My family was poorly treated by the people at their local pub too the night of my wedding. So bad that we had to leave. We paid a lot of money to be there and it was not worth the cost at all. Very disappointed and will be expecting a return on investment due to me being so unhappy with my wedding photos and stay.

September 22 was our 43rd wedding anniversary, we had reservations for 6:30 pm for our dinner. Very disappointed with the service, very very slow. Errors and more. Cold, without pleasant taste, for a steak at $43, I must say once again very disappointed. The quality of our food was lacking in attention. Kitchen that lacks preparation. For us, our experience was the most negative point of our visit. Our room was good, nothing more. At the reception, the lady there seemed to want to be elsewhere. At our check out , the same terrible service. Worst place in a long time. This was not our first visit to Waring House and it will certainly be our last. Quality/Price = 0 On our last meal/stay. September 22nd. Nothing positive to say. 43rd wedding anniversary supper was bad, cold, no presentation, no attention to quality. Very slow service, errors and more. My $42 steak, cold and not at all what I expected. Not alone with this situation that night. Check-in for our room, the person at the desk, in a bad mood and looked like she wanted nothing to do with us. Check-out, same thing, not even a, Thank you staying with us . I have worked in hotel industry for many years and this is a good example of bad service. No chance of us returning to The Waring House.

This is really a review of the Inn as a hotel. We only ate breakfast at the restaurant, and that was the best part of our stay. The waitress was very helpful and the fixed menu options suited us well. Firstly I admit that I chose the Standard (cheapest) room and I knew that the room would be upstairs. But I was really not prepared for the very narrow stairs that I had to carry our luggage up. The reception staff seemed almost totally indifferent, barely looking at us either when we checked in or when we checked out.

I would love to have posted a Review of the dinner, but it never happened. My wife booked a dinner for 2 and the reservation was confirmed by the Maitred. As we approached the reservation date, the Maitred called and cancelled our booking. A large group had just booked and we were cancelled to accommodate them, there was no discussion. We are locals and have visited the Waring House many times, but as one can see, Reviews are getting worse and we will be communicating to others our experience with the Waring House Restaurant.

Our autumn wedding at the Waring House Hotel and Conference Centre was a spectacular success! Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Melinda the property organizer and to all of her crew for an amazing outdoor ceremony! The reception that followed featured terrific food and bar service. It was the perfect venue for our event. Huge thanks also go out to the hotel staff who served our guests and our bridal cottage, along with handling our Friday night campfire event! Vegetarian options: Melinda and her staff were meticulous and patient with all vegetarian requests for our dinner menu - thanks again! Parking: Easy access to parking for both guests and vendors. Huge lot for any number of participants for any event or occasion. Kid-friendliness: The staff were amazing and patient with the children who attended our event. At one point, the two kids were even allowed to join in with the Friday night band playing in the pub! Terrific memories for them!

The food is good when its good... And sometimes its not... There doesnt seem to be much accountability. Staff is a hit or miss. As a former employee I can say some are world class... Hope you get them.. The experience will be wonderful. When things go well this is a nice place to visit.. But you must have a car and driver. Taxis are a maybe and police station is close so if planning on visiting wineries make a plan. If youre coming for dinner.. Make sure you can get home or plan to stay. They do go all out at Halloween.

Wonderful stay in this historic hotel. Thank you Waring House staff.

The room smelt poorly, it was hard to bathe in the bathtub without appropriate temperature water (obv there was no shower), and like 1 plug to charge our phones (we had to alternate) - in the bathroom? The location is kinda awkward with a view of Home Depot or whatever. WISH so badly I hadn t spent $250 for the one night here! The front desk didn t even bat an eye when I told them the jets in the bathtub made a death noise after 4 minutes. It s like they KNOW it s the worst and I m just the sucker that booked it. Don t make the same mistake I did! Try to find literally anywhere else.

This little inn is exactly how you would hope it would be. The cottage feel was lovely, The rooms were spacious and we had a fireplace. There was a balcony that had two huge Muskoka chairs which was lovely to sit on at the end of the day. Everything was clean! It had such a great cottage feel to it. Not to mention the amazing breakfast in the morning. Not your typical continental, I mean a full county breakfast with bacon and eggs! Service was great I can t wait to come back!

Was expecting more.. more clean.. more fitting for the price of the room. The service that we experienced in the breakfast area was something we never have experienced. To each their own. Some people have different humor. But if this was another place where Id be paying for my breakfast, I would have walked out. Cold coffee.. warm orange juice.. the poor young kids cant do anything. This one waitress takes over everything. Room was musty.. real musty. Air con did not get cold.. had it cranked all night. Will not be returning. Im sure there is other places in the area.

What an amazing experience. We stayed for a weekend and had an AMAZING time. Every single staff member was outstanding, with an amazing attitude and so welcoming but Jeremy wins. We will forever be in awe of the service Jeremy provided us. He was always 6 steps ahead, knowing what our orders would be before we did and having them ready for us. Thank you so much to all of you for providing us with the most amazing weekend!!!

We had booked for a romantic getaway and had a premium suite. The room certainly was premium. We had a crazy huge bathroom with a big soaker tub. I do wonder why in such a huge bathroom they put such a small shower but the tub made up for it. We had a separate living room and bedroom with a double patio door in each that walked out onto our private patio with our own 2 person hot tub. Absolutely lovely! And it was really nice to have bathrobes included. There was evidence that some tender loving care was required; some mildew by shower fan and the outdoor wood framing around patio doors needs sanding and repainting but over all very lovely. We never were able to use the TV or the phones in the room. We ended up just using our cellphones to call reception; we had no coffee creamer left for us. It was nice having glass wine glasses and actual coffee mugs, really liked that. They also had a wine bottle opener which was handy since we forgot to bring one. I would suggest you make sure you have all your coffee supplies on arrival as they dont replenish because of Covid and it wasnt nice discovering there was no coffee creamer at 6:30 am. I would also ask how to use the TV at check in, we never did firgure it out. Not terrible because we had the hot tub, soaker tub, and games but one night we were hoping to watch movie in bed and felt it was too late to call reception, only security there at that time. The sitdown full service breakfast was also lovely but be prepared for more of a diner experience. Staff was fun but certainly not fine dining type of thing. They would dress the table as you stood there, drinks came sometimes at breakfast, sometimes separately, one time I got juice while my husband had none. It was kind of comical really. Coffee and breakfast were cold mostly and eggs over done but at the same time we enjoyed the experience of full service and antics. You could see some people were expecting a much more high end service. We actually had lots of laughs and overall enjoyed it. Dinner was much more professional, food was sensational. It was also nice to walk to town. The first night we walked to Black Prince Winery and had a lovely bottle of wine and fire baked pizza on the vine covered patio. All in all, every space was unique and charming and glad we booked here.

I was very very disappointed. Went for the afternoon tea and wish I hadnt wasted my money. The food was stale tasting, they gave a savory scone with Whipped Cream and jam. The desserts pretty sure were not baked there but store bought. The service was non existent, they dropped off the tea and snacks and then we never saw them again. It took a long time for them to even deliver our tea and food. Outdoor dining wasnt even an option. Plus the mandatory 18% tip on top of $30/person when there was no service is ridiculous. Save your money go so.ewhere else.

Traveled with another couple. Called ahead to make sure both rooms had king size beds. Got there and was told our room was given away! No turndown service even though we were there for multiple nights. Food at their restaurant,Amelias, was terrible even though they are supposed to give lessons in cuisine! Service at breakfast was horrendous. A wannabe locale. Dated and dirty AND expensive. Would never recommend.

A gorgeous property we stumbled on while riding past on our motorcycles. We were looking for something different for breakfast and we found it by accident. At first glance thought it was too classy and would probably be too pricey. But to our surprise it was super reasonable and staff was super friendly and accommodating. Dining room manager was friendly and shared the history of this beautiful property that has a cooking school and Inn.

We found everything fantastic!! We were just so pleased to be able to get away and feel like we were actually on vacation. What s wrong with you complainers??Do you not realize we are still living in a pandemic? Do you not realize there are staff shortages EVERYWHERE?? due MOSTLY through prospective employees who d rather live off handouts than actually work for a living?? This not only affects the staff in restaurants and retail but also those who work in hotels..either those serving, cleaning, or maintaining the grounds!! We can t expect perfection at this point in time. I give the staff full kudos for what they are doing to keep the Waring House available to those of us fortunate enough to travel. As for the decor yes it might need SOME updating but remember they are NOT trying, nor claiming to be, modern . The grounds are lovely, the morning FULL breakfast (not continental) was fabulous, and dinner was terrific. There was even live music in the evening in the pub. Honestly don t think you could ask for more in these given times.

OK for a sit-down meal. The menu is certainly not up to par with a catering school. We were expecting something approaching a gourmet level, at least as an option. Far from it at midday at least. Nice and quiet though. Considered a popular local restaurant.

The overzealous ID checker and the manager for waring house are so power hungry that they re ability to care for patrons is incomprehensible. The manager in particular was so rude to my guests speaking over us as we were trying to understand why few in our party weren t allowed to come in. An opportunity to speak wasn t allowed as the woman through a fit scolding me loudly in front of a large room. I understand that Covid has left restaurant owners frustrated in a matter I cannot relate to however, to have an adult woman scold me in public was absolutely horrendous. Let this serve as a reminder for those who may have forgotten, you never know what other people are going through as this dinner was serving as a small celebration of life for a loved ones passing that we were celebrating at waring house. My apologies to the waitress who was equally appalled at the managers actions and frequently apologized to our large group. I cannot express my embarrassment for the woman unable to compose herself as she screeched at me from behind a podium. Needless to say, this woman should understand how her actions affected a grieving man and an opportunity for patience and kindness would ve been appreciated, perhaps waring house should reconsider who they have as front of house representing their business.

Went on Saturday night for dinner. Went early to ensure we got a table and good thing. It was packed. Good menu selection, and good food. Our waiter, Jeremy made the whole experience fantastic though. He thoroughly entertained our 8 year old and knew just what to say. Only suggestion - clearly label the door people are to enter in. We went in the door labelled Main Entrance and were told to go out and go in a side door. Rather confusing on a very busy night. Overall a great experience.

We were there last weekend (Halloween weekend) and managed to get a seat in the dining area (vs the pub) Our waiter was amazing! Our little guy was fried from a day exploring and our waiter was upbeat and cheerful with him and offered exactly the kinds of things kids want (like ketchup before he could ask for it) The entire place was decorated to the nines for Halloween- it was amazing. I had a couple of cosmos- they were perfect. And my steak- well Ive never actually had a steak cooked the way I asked for it before even at steak houses (Medium well) It was delicious. This was not our first time here, but our first for dinner (weve had lunch there several times). I highly recommend it.

Dinner was great, lamb shanks tender and delicious. Loved the mushroom tart. We shared the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Torte - it was out of this world! Jeremy made the whole experience extra special. He went above and beyond with his service, suggestions for drinks and food. He had a lot of tables to serve but managed to do everything cheerfully and efficiently. The breakfast was okay, understand that options were limited given staff shortages. Heather was great; very friendly and patient with our numerous requests for extra milk, more tea, more coffee, etc.

As a Picton local Ive enjoyed the Waring House on many an occasion. With covid striking my partner and I have stayed in a little more than is typical but this evening we decided we deserved an evening out. We budgeted an amount and set out to share one order of fries and have one drink each. Three hours later, thanks to the lively music and absolutely exceptional service from our server Mike, we have had one of our best accidental date nights ever. Mike managed to keep our spirits high, kept the delicious french fry dips coming, and is the staff member Ill be hoping to see upon our return. Cheers!
