Black Prince Winery & Canadian Vinegar Cellars Century Barn & Barrel House with Wood-Fired Pizza & County Disc Golf in Picton

We had a very relaxed and enjoyable tasting experience with Linda and purchased a Reisling and Merlot which were both delicious. I hear their pizza is delicious and wish we had been there at lunchtime!

Jeff and the team at the black prince winery are simply terrific. We hosted a night before the wedding pizza and wine reception for 65 guests and everything was spot on. Nice venue, good pizza and wine and most importantly super service. Leading up to the event emails were answered promptly and attentively. If you are in the picton area make sure you drop by for a wine tasting and pizza. If you want to host a group they will take care of you. Special thanks to MacKenzie and Sadie who along with owner Jeff and Lisa took care of us. PS. Their cab franc is terrific.

Worst welcome ever at the tasting place. If you dont want to welcome customers and make them feel they are not welcome why do you even bother to have opening hours?

Worst wine experience of my life! Let me set the stage. Im a sommelier, wine educator, and worked in some of the finest private clubs and restaurants in Canada. Ive been fortunate enough to have tried almost every major fine wine on the planet. This isnt it!! I love to promote small wineries and help them get recognition, but not this place. Theres a reason I havent heard of it in thirty years in the business. Some red faced guy(daily drinker) was condescending and its like he was too important to serve the likes of us. You know, people with money that want to spend it on wine. I suspect their vinegars are good, but I wasnt that willing to part with cash after the wine experience. No door handle? Spiders and webs all over the barrels within customers reach? Overall a very very dirty place. Definitely not up to any health code. I happen to know a close relative in that very department in your area! I wasted $29.99 ish on a bottle of cab. franc reserve. Ill delete my negative review if they would be willing to reimburse me $30 for the oxidative vinegar wine I poured down the drain.

The merlot is very nice. Dry and with a full body.

Vinegar is out of this world. Great for salads.

Everything is good and at a fair price, the people are friendly, both customers and staff. To do again next year

Our wine tour guide mentioned the vinegar tasting at Black Prince. In addition to a great selection of wine, we ended our stay by trying various vinegars, and the taste blew us away. It was one of the more unique experiences we had in the county, and were thrilled with the service and the owners kindness. I will absolutely be going back!

We had a lovely experience tasting wines at Black Prince Winery. Curtis was awesome and talked us through a variety of their options- all of which were delicious. We particularly enjoyed the lovely service and the pinot gris and cabernet franc. Highly recommend you make the time to visit while youre PEC!

Ive been to several wineries in PEC and this was my #1. Not only did it have some of the best wines Ive tries in the area, the staff were great and I found the prices to be very reasonable ($25-$30ish/bottle).

We went there the wine tasting and the vinegars. Our host was Linda. She was super informative about the wines. The vinegars will knock your socks off. Amazing wood fired pizza to compliment your visit. Definitely a redo for us Mike & Nat

Was in the area and decided to stop in for some wine. The lady working there was so nice and helpful. She offered me samples of multiple wines and I ended up buying 4 different bottles to take home. Just enjoying the first bottle now and I love it!

We went there for the pizza and we were not disappointed. We had the Aloha and the Margarita and they were excellent. We had courteous service and we were served in French (to our great pleasure since English is our second language) The place was very beautiful and very clean! We will return there next time!

In the past always loved to stop for pizza and drinks. This last time might have destroyed any chance of coming back. Have always been able to get 1/2 & 1/2 pizza. They refused. Too busy...5 min call back to get our pizza everyone standing around, no pizza in oven, no prep.

Nice hidden gem to try on your way back from Sandbanks! Wine is good, but the wood oven pizza is a must try.

While I would normally give 4 because it closes to tastings at 6 even though the bistro sells pizza and we were going to taste then have a bite to eat, I m giving a full 5/5 because they were very gracious and gave us a tasting even though we were 10 minutes late to the tasting room. We thoroughly enjoyed the wine as well as the vinegars. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and fun. Pizza was delicious! 10/10 would recommend.

2021: Barrel House Wood fired pizza at the winery is fantastic. Outside seating only. Nothing fancy. But pizza crust is one of the best weve ever had. Husband had the Aloha. A spicy version of a Hawaiian pizza. I had the Margherita. Nice drizzle of balsamic on it. Probably their own balsamic. Nice! Visiting again in 2022. Pizza still great. Consistent quality. Nice friendly staff. Recommend the exceptional, full-bodied Cabernet Franc Reserve 2020. Maybe lie it down for 1 to 2 years to soften. Really enjoyed again! 2023: Pizza is still fantastic. Crust is light, tasty and crisp. Margherita and Aloha pizzas - really enjoyed! 2021 Cabernet Franc was great . 2021 Pinot Gris was slightly sweet, refreshing and smooth. Sherry balsamic vinegar is really special. Deven helped us with our tasting. Really knowledgeable with unique insights and interesting facts. Very welcoming and friendly. We bought all three products! Thank you !

The wood fired pizza was good, a little too soft and salty. The wines were good, liked the Pinot Gris better. The settings were good, the size is on the small side.

I wanted to love the pizza here because of the great reviews. Expecting amazing quality because it is on the pricier end, we were extremely disappointed. Last night we ordered a meat lovers and a margherita and we received almost no toppings on either pizza. The sauce was sugary and the dough was very mediocre. It felt like we were eating bread. Honesty, I never write reviews but our whole party was very confused how this place had good ratings. I m going to assume it was a one-off for them and hope people receive better quality in the future.

Wine was excellent and our Sommelier was super proud to show us all the fun selections! Pizza was very good as well!

What a gem! We had the 4-flight tasting. Two reds (pinot and cab/merlot blend) and two whites (riesling and sauv blanc). So different to what I am used to. To me the best one was the red blend. Have you watched the movie Ratatouille? When the mini chef tried different food to create the magic effect? That s exactly what I felt when drinking it. WOW!! Can t wait to have it with some picanha. Our server was so friendly and talkative. We had a great conversation about food, wines, and pairings.

Checked this place out a few weeks ago. So happy we did. Love their vinegars. Ended up buying a couple of wines along with some vinegars. Just had a bottle of 2022 Pinot Gris with lunch. So good. This place is a must visit. The owner is also quite funny.

I only had the wine tasting and didnt try the pizza. The favorite wine that I tried was the cabernet franc. I like it so much that I purchased a few bottles home.

We came here for a tasting of wine and stayed to taste the vinegars as well - and trust me, you want to do that. The wines are hand made, bottled, labelled and sold - everything by hand. Our host helped us through the tasting very well giving us tidbits about the origins of the winery, the name, and of course, the wine. We loved some of the lines like The Pinot Noir grabs hold of your tongue and doesnt let go had us laughing, but then after trying it - agreeing! Small, locally-produced wine at its best. The vinegars - fermented for years in older barrels - really have character and the taste blows your tastebuds away. Certainly a unique offering in Prince Edward County - do not skip it.

My first winery in PEC. On the small side, but right in town. Wines were decent, and vinegars were fun to try. No tours were available at the time, and didn t try the pizza. Overall okay experience. Found the customer service to be lacklustre.

Disc golf course was horrible. Not worth paying a single dollar for. The pizza was good but overpriced. I asked the waitress to refill my water bottle and she looked at the tap then told me they had bottles for sale. Ridiculous when I spent $80 on 3 pizzas. I would not return.

I went here to play disc golf and had an amazing day, drinking cider and playing on their awesome course. Shout out to Henry for bringing out some beers and ciders for us mid round.

Nice place with picnic tables and accessible to families. The wine tasting ended at 6 p.m. the day we went even though opening hours are until 8 p.m. My partner was able to do it but not me. The pizza is excellent but ask for the waiting time before being served. With young children sometimes you have to be patient! We ordered 1 pizza for 2 adults and a 3 year old and it was not enough, plan for more than not enough! It was excellent :)

Nice quaint little place for a good family lunch! Their wood fired oven pizzas are delicious. Enjoy them with a glass of any of their wines. Outdoor seating lets you take in the view of the vineyard.

We did a wine tour of 7 wineries on Aug 3rd including this one and it was lovely. The environment is like an old barn with so much lovely character. Josh was really great and friendly and walked us through the wine and vinegar tastings. You have to try the vinegars!

Wife and I had a great time. Our host (didnt catch their name) was super courteous, and we had a blast playing disc golf. They gave us a primer on how to play, tips and tricks. Seriously great time, good drink, and in a great spot! Will definitely go again soon.

The wine is subjective. It wasnt for us. I didnt mind the service behind the counter giving us our tasting, they were courteous and passionate about their wine. Onto the Barrel House Wood fire pizza... TOURIST TRAP!!! I give this one star. If you are going to charge me $24+tax for a small Margherita pizza. It better have fresh whole Basil on it, not dried crumpled basil from the grocery store. The balsamic glaze doesnt belong on that pizza either. As an Italian, Im insulted. Just like 555 BrewCo. If youre going to attempt Italian wood oven pizza, go take some lessons please. I commend Anglican folk for trying, but please.... You have the gift of using one of these wood oven beasts I only dream of having one day and you failed. The pizza was not good. At all. Definitely not $24 good..

I love Black Prince winery. They give you 4 tastings and also a taste of their vinegars. The idea of tasting vinegars didn t appeal to me but I tried and you know they taste really good? One I could just taste on a light salad, no oil needed with that vinegar. The manager told some great jokes first by saying these are his regular; jokes. My family were visiting from New Brunswick and were very impressed and we had done a lot of wineries and they loved the ambiance of Black Prince best plus bought a lot of wine to take home. Really great!

We had a wonderful time at Black Prince Winery! Informative and interesting wine tasting, plus Jeff and Curtis were both great. Highly recommend this as a must-stop in Prince Edward County. They are the oldest winery in the county and are extremely proud Canadian wine-makers.

Wow what a gem, first of all you MUST do a tasting here just to listen to the knowledge and then you MUST try the Vinegar! I know you are probably thinking vinegar, why must I try the vinegar? Ok I will explain we bought more vinegar than wine here, and the wine is amazing, so that should explain all about the vinegar.

Came to wine country for the long weekend and Black Prince Winery gave us the best experience. Curtis was amazing so knowledgeable and friendly. They have a huge variety of wines AND vinegars. The stone oven pizza here is amazing and definitely worth the wait. The live music was relaxing, a lot places over do it with the live music but it was great here! Thank you was Curtis for the great experience. We will definitely be back.

Nice selection of wines and vinegars bought the peach vinegar very yummy and Mary Janes wine have not tried that yet, the pizza place in the back was OK got the margarita pizza just wasn t very much basil or balsamic vinegar on it could of used more of that and a little bit of seasoning for $23 medium size pizza all in all not so bad crust very good was cooked in a brick oven I like that. Love Picton area. The vinegar was $29 for a bottle and the wine was 24.99 for the bottle the vinegar is more than a wine and less of it?

We loved our stop here. We shared a bottle of lovely wine and a fired baked pizza on the vine covered patio. The music was wonderful and environment incredibly relaxing. Felt like you were out in the county. One of our favourite stops!

Needed a pitstop and was recommended here for their pizza. Tasty meal, nicely spaced out patio and left happily full! Got their Aloha pizza with their garlic aioli. Quite delicious, toppings well balanced and flavored, the dough itself had a nice bite and chew that was perfect with the dip. Not much service: you just go pick it up on the counter with no utensils or napkins. But you can make do since its just pizza. Theres a porta potty outside but they also have a washroom inside the wine room

Delicious Aloha Pizza, but too much hot yellow pepper and not enough pineapple! To do it again, I would ask for no chili and a lot more pineapple!

The reds are full bodied and easy to drink now. Same goes with the whites we tried. Theres a pizza oven on site as well as a frizby golf course. So make this a destination rather than a slurp & dash tasting.

We came for a wine tasting weekend and started here. We spent over an hour here and by far this was the best wine tasting .why? The host explained everything and made it so much fun! The vinegar tasting was awesome too. I definitely say that when someone spends time with your group and explains in detail it really does go a long way. I went to many others that day and all I can say is black prince host, you were the best! Thank you so much!

This is where my wife and I call our second home. Our favourite vineyard in the county, always great selection.

My husband and I had a great experience here. It was more than just a wine tasting experience; Curtis shared a wealth of information with us about the grapes, the barrels, and even the vinegars available there. I highly recommend this winery. It was perfect going in February because they are open and able to spend more time explaining about their history, wine making techniques, and other informative tidbits.

The team is super friendly! Several varieties of wines and vinegars can be tasted for a fee which is waived if you purchase wine. Behind, the rustic barn which is free to enter is superb, and they serve delicious pizza from a wood-fired oven!!

Had a wine & vinegar tasting with Kurtis who shared the history of the barrels & how wine & vinegars were made. Never actually though I would enjoy vinegar tasting so much in my life. The wines were awsome!!! The Risling & Chardonnay are very good and the Cabarnet franc & Pinot noir were from another world. They have White Hemp Wine that tastes like flowers & aged white wine in whiskey barrel that tastes like honey Highly recommended

Went there for the Wood Fired Pizza, and it was really nice. But did not give it 5 stars as it was a 40 min wait. And for $22-25 per medium pie, it is expensive.

We visited this winery somewhat spontaneously to end our small winery tour of Prince Edward County over the Civic Holiday weekend, and out of the half dozen or so wineries we visited this was hands down the most satisfying. The wine tasted great (some really unique wines like the hemp wine) and also one of the few if not the only winery in PEC to produce and sell flavoured vinegar, which were also exquisite. When we arrived we were delightfully greeted by an adorable cat I assumed belonged to the owner? lol They have a small firewood pizzeria area in the back. Jeff, the actual wine maker and not just some random winery staff, was our wine tasting guide and he was not only very knowledgeable but he also had a great sense of humour and was very accomodating to our group of seven. Overall, this winery was very charming and didn t reek of prentiousness the way the other wineries we visited did. Well done, Black Prince. I only wish for the very best on your future endeavours.

Pizza was really great! I got the margarita it was delish. The only disappointment is the price but we can forgive because it is tasty. Also no water or drinks are offered besides wine. Wine was delish though loved the Riesling. Overall Pizza 5 stars, but service 3. :)

Fantastic pizza, interesting vinegars

What I like: cute rustic garden, the wine, the crunchy crust of the pizza. What I do not like: the price for the pizza, you can not charge people $23 for a pie and 18% is the lowest tipping option for guests, especially if guetss self serve. Definitely not top notch ingredients like the owner claims, I could taste the sugar in the tomatoes sauce I like the setting and the wine so I would recommend it but please reconsider the value you offer to visitors.

This place has selection of local beer and wood oven pizza (wine available at the bar as well), not to mention a wide variety of vinegars. If youre a fan of vinegars (as a salad dressing or other use), you wont be disappointed. You will find aged vinegars (i.e. 19 year old) which should be a fantastic seasoning.

Awful experience. Wine was mediocre at best. Tasting was done in plastic cups without even a cursory rinse between wines. Host was unenthusiastic in his presentation, not engaging at all. He also seated another party within 2 feet of our own, without any concern for social distancing. One star only for the vinegar, which is tasty on its own, but served straight with no bread or cracker accompaniment, and bottles ~ $30 for only about 500mL

Good vinegar selection. Wines are good too. Tasting was informative and came with a lot of history of the winery. Learned a lot and enjoyed the tasting experience. Nice change of pace.

I stopped by to take a look but never partook in any tasting. I will definitely for sure next time and follow up. The location itself was very nice with the backyard patio. It looked like they had some nice products in the show room. Look forward to visiting again. October 30th I revisited Black Prince to try some of their wines. I had a glass of the Cabernet Franc and enjoyed it!

We tasted the cab franc and the merlot. The were both very good - fruity and smooth. We also tried the vinegars. Very impressive. Loved the peach vinegar for salads and loved the maple balsamic vinegar.

Did a wine tasting of a reIsling ..tasted fine there ...but once I got home and opened it for some guests...well it was the worst tasting wine we have ever had....won t ever go back again Since I visited while on vacation I did not want to go 4 hrs away to return a bottle of bad wine

Good place with friendly staff and a good variety of locally produced wines. You can do some wine and vinegar tasting while eating a wood-fired pizza. Conveniently located, close to downtown Picton. Definitely would go back again.

I visited Black Prince Winery with my Mom about a month ago and had a really nice visit. Their winemaker, Geoff Webb, was serving samples so we had an excellent opportunity for one-on-one time. Aside from wines, Black Prince also produces vinegars (I purchased balsamic) and, if memory serves, they also have 1 sherry for tasting. Another interesting thing Black Prince sells is a product called Hemp Wine. Certainly its important to note that this winery has a variety of styles! If you go during slow season, like we did, its very cool to meet the winemaker and he answered all of my questions. On the down side, we were hoping to get pizza but it was not open that day (thats our own fault since its an outdoor oven- shoulda known better when its cold outside!). Mom and I both agreed that we want to go back again when the weather is warmer and try the food. Geoff also gave us a great location to have lunch in town there in Picton. Thanks again to Geoff for making it a memorable experience on my first trip out to Prince Edward County. I am sure well be there again soon!

I purchased 3 bottles of wine that were not to my personal satisfactory. The owners at Black Prince Winery personally contacted me and shipped THREE brand new bottles of the same wine I purchased 4 hours away to my residence completely free of charge! Absolutely amazing! They are extremely professional and truly stand behind their product. What a wonderful winery and staff, I highly recommend them to anyone in the Picton area!

Got a couple bottles of wine, a couple bottles of vinegar and some great conversation! We visited this winery in April (a great time to go if you want to beat the summer crowds). Cant wait to visit again. The vinegars are going to be making some salads come to life this summer!

Curtis and Pete were so lovely to me and my family when we came down. Wonderful wine and vinegars, beautiful area and the oven fried pizza looked amazing, we wernt able to have some but I wish we did! Thank you all some much for the hospitality and great time!

These people are passionate and true to their craft, which is evident through both their enthusiasm and the quality of their products. Definitely try the hemp wine, and the wine vinegar!

We stopped in at Black Prince Winery for the wood fired pizza. We enjoyed the casual vibe at the winery and chatting with Pete about the process of manufacturing barrels and making vinegars. The pizza was amazing and the caprese salad, with a blueberry balsamic reduction made on-site, was easily the best one I ve ever enjoyed.. better than those I ve eaten in Rome! A very family friendly winery too, and we will definitely visit again.

Great wine! Great pizza! Very friendly staff and the wine sampling area is set up perfect. Down by the barn you can enjoy lunch in a really cute spot. Tour the barn while youre there. A must on your travels.

Kurtis was phenomenal. Thank you for taking the time to talk to us! We tried some of their locally famous wines with their unique barrel aged process and tried the balsamic vinegar as well... You need to grab one of their excellent pizzas after, the Aloha is the one to get. This was the highlight of our day. So impressed with Prince Edward County!

Curtis was fabulous and made our birthday girls trip to Picton even more special and memorable! The food and wine were fantastic, and the vinegar for crust dipping was amazing. Will definitely return to this beautiful place.

This was the second winery on our self guided diy winery tour. It wasnt actually going to be part of our itinerary but the opportunity presented itself and there we were standing at the counter of the Plack Prince Winery. So glad we dropped in because if I look back on the day I believe it would have been the most informative of our winery visits. Loved the low frills atmosphere compares to the other wineries we visited and the gentleman behind the bar gave us all kinds of personal input and even showed us videos of the barrels being flamed. The venue is very inconspicuous and not obvious from the road. We were introduced to delicious vinegars of various flavors as well. I highly recommend this winery as a stop any time!

Edited - One of the staff was extremely rude during our wine tour. We were originally told we could bring a snack in, which we were enjoying by the picnic tables, then one of the staff approached my group extremely aggressively telling us to pack up and leave. He could have simply explained that we must of misunderstood and that we can stay but would need to pack up the food. We then went to Sandbanks Winery, who welcomed us in immediately and confirmed outside food was not a problem. I would definitely not recommend the Black Prince Winery. Response: Your response was a complete lie! Maybe you forgot that you told our wine tour we could eat. For your information there was no one waiting for tables. Sandbanks does serve food as some of us also got a snack there! Each of us also purchased a bottle of wine, which we were going to at your winery, so you lost customers because of your aggresive (not polite) reaction. She actually said she was not drinking, so to stop speaking to us in such a rude and aggressive manner. Maybe if you had calmed down, you would have heard her correctly. We did leave immediately! The rest of the staff was really nice, as previously stated it was one employee. So not sure why you are discussing the staff in your response.

Worst customer experience I ve ever had. Hostile man yelling at his customers for a misunderstand with tour guide (no conversation with us first). Insulted us! Even so we respected what he did say, right away. Says WE were disrespectful! Lies multiple times. Slandering on social media. It s just disgusting. Worst display of narcissism I ve ever seen.

Great wine, great pizza, great people. We loved it and came back the next day to get more. Thin crust pizza, not too big, enough for two people. They have a pizza and two glasses of wine special for $30, and you can taste the wine to choose which one you like with your pizza.

Black Prince has for a number of years been on my Must Go To list while visiting the area. They have a lovely selection of both wines and vinegars which never disappoint. The staff at the tasting bar have always been very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful however yesterday, I was appauled by the conduct of the seniour gentleman on sight. It was terrible how he reprimanded the young gentleman who was assisting a group of people who were sampling vinegars. The issue, I believe was related to an undercharge of a previous customer. Being a DM myself, having been in business for many yesrs, I have never spoken to my employees in this manner, let alone in front of patrons. There is a time, place and manner to address matters, of which were obviously completely disregarded. The young attendant was visably shaken up by the incident. Although, nothing was said by the employee after-the-fact, I did extend some words of support and encouragement. One thing I have learnt over the years is that if you want respect, want employees to meet expectations, be Magnetic as front people for your business WE as employers must be professional at all times, create a positive working environment for our employees and ensure that they know that they are valued. Final note: The rating is based on the product and assistsnce received. I did not think it appropriate to penalize based on the incident witnessed. I hope this feedback will be reflected upon and applied as a learn for future. Thank you.

Geoff and Steve are awesome. This was our first stop of 8 wineries in Prince Edward County . Easily the most memorable because there are zero barrel coopers in Ontario ..except Steve!! Fresh baked pizza and wine sampling

Decided to do some wineries and really enjoyed this place. Some really good local wines at good prices and amazing vinegars. I would highly recommend the blueberry flavored vinegar. They also have an employee who works there and burns the inside of the wooden barrels to add flavor. Very knowledgeable in explaining how they toast barrels depending on the type of alcohol to add the word flavor. They also have/serve wood burning oven pizza. Must try!!!

Excellent experience and beautiful scenery. Very friendly with amazing customer service, great wines available for tasting and delicious wood-fire pizza! The staff was wonderful and make you feel very welcome. The tasting was interesting and done by someone very knowledgeable. Pete, the cooper went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Very cool place and unique experience, definately recommend checking this place out!!

Man this place is fun. We first visited a few years ago, and while underwhelmed with the setting compared to other wineries, the unique tasting experiences keep bringing us back. Want to try different oils? Check! Hemp wine? Sure! Sherry? Ok! But that cab franc gives me happy dreams at night. Please do check our the barrel operation in the back, definitely worthwhile.

MMmmmm - vinegar! This was so much fun, it just made the whole trip. And his level of authenticity and service was perfect. It was hard to not walk away with one of every flavour. So much for the taste buds to enjoy.

Really didnt know what to expect when we decided to go here. The website is kind of shanty but we decided to try it anyway. It ended up being an excellent choice. The wines are great and so are the vinegars. But for me the real highlight of this place is Pete, the cooper. He is a really interesting fellow and as a woodworker I loved seeing his shop and barrel celler. Oh and they have a very friendly cat!

We had the pleasure of visiting this winery, initially just to buy a bottle of wine for our sister but we had the pleasure of meeting Pete the man behind the making of the Barrels. He showed us around and educated our family about why he chooses to age vinagers in these barrels. Its an experience my daughters whole dear to their heart something that they will never forget. Thank you Pete for the special bottles.

The customer service was wonderful, and they had a great ice wine that wasnt just sweet but had a lot of depth in its taste.

Loved tasting the good wines and thoroughly enjoyed visiting the unique barrel-aged wine vinegars at Canadian Cellars out back. Worth the visit.

Had an amazing experience at this winery. Matt was awesome. He was funny, down to earth, personable and very friendly. Both my husband and I really liked his style of customer service. The vinegar tasting added another layer to our experience. We bought two bottles of wine and a bottle of vinegar. I definitely recommend visiting Black Prince Winery if youre in the area.

Nice little winery and definitely worth the stop! One of the smaller ones in the area, but enjoyed the unpretentious atmosphere along with the helpful staff and owner. Some enjoyably complex wines (loved the 2011).

Guests said they had a great time enjoying the live music.
