This is Chinese Restaurant that serves Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine. Bring your own wine.
Food was great, the service was amazing refilling our water as soon as we drank it and when they messed up our payments by giving me my friend’s bill they gave us cookies. The atmosphere could use work though the outside looks like an old diner and the way to get there is a bit sketchy but on the inside it feels like an engagement party. Over all really good experience will be back!
Good American Chinese, the location has cycled through a few names over the years and has generally been good. Tried Shing Kee for the first time tonight. Picked up a dinner for 2, won ton soups, egg rolls, dumplings with peanut sauce, steamed rice and vegetables, sesame beef and general tao. Everything was good, fresh and tasty and lots of food, would likely be enough for 4 people. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed. We ordered online directly with them and our food was ready in about 40 min ( as they said it would be). We will definitely be ordering from here again. I live off St Charles, so I have a few other chinese restaurants around me, but this place is worth the drive. Give it a try.
I ordered deliver and what I can say is the price for the servings I got is awesome, but the food was ok. I trust that Shing Kee can do better with the food taste!
I noticed this place everytime I was driving by but never thought I would go in since it is located randomly on an off side road but I dont regret it The food was exceptional, better than what I imagined. We ordered the basic chinesw food that everybody loves, general tao, special yangchow fried rice (pork and shrimp), stir-beef with chinese brocoli and not to forget a tom yum soup! (I wasn’t expecting this taste, thai soup in a chinese restaurant! very yummy…) There is a free parking lot plenty of space. the interior could be a little better, but. It was still very welcoming ( more like going to your friends house for diner type of vibe) but nonetheless, they have lots of clients and good food! Thats what counts I think that is bring your own wine type of restaurant (looking at other tables) not sure Anyhow definitely going back to try other dishes
Seems every time I come here, it gets better! I go out of rush hour always. We finished at 18:00 and the place was packed and take away was moving! I’ve done take away and it doesn’t taste as good
Food was good, 1st time here and got two Lunch special which was General Tso's chicken. It came with choice of Wonton or Hot Sour soup, Spring Roll, take out portioned plate where 1/2 plate either your choice of fried or steamed rice, 1/4 plate mixed vegetables and 1/4 plate is the General Tso's chicken. All was in good tasting order. Attached a photo. The service was very kind by Lee and he helped bring the takeout to my vehicle and expedited my order. Nice touch. PS: Men's bathroom was clean.
What a wonderful surprise, to find a new Chinese restaurant. On the west island . The food was like going to China town Montreal. Outstanding and fresh. The hot and sour soup is a 10 The egg rolls 10 Peanut dumping 10 Chicken sticks 10 The general tao 10 Singapore 10 Out of all the Chinese restaurant's on the west island .this place is #1
The lunch special is great. You have a variety of mains that is served with soup, rice, and a spring roll. It's a lot of food for a reasonable price. I had the General Tao, a hot and sour soup, steamed , and a spring roll. The soup was great, but the spring roll was too mushy inside, and it was served after my meal instead of after my soup. As for the General Tao... it was tasty, but the chicken was not there. The batter was too thick, and there were many pieces served that were just dough, and there was no chicken. Service, except for the spring roll timing, was friendly and good. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Tuesday lunchtime. Maybe I'll try something else next time.
Amazing highly recommend
Came for lunch with friends. All our food was hot and delicious. They have a lunchtime menu (much appreciated)
Doesnt look like much, but it was very good. And very large portion for the price! Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options and they are delicious.
Great food! Very tasty, friendly family run business. Highly recommend
Fantastic service, very friendly and by far best food for the price !!! Cozy & well kept up
Very good food, great service, Fair prices. Highly recommended 0
Nice location ,good services and very decent food with reasonable prices Food : 4/5
Delicious but a bit on the greasy side. The portions were very generous and the food was nicely cooked.
Love the place we eat here all the time including this evening itwas excellent as always.wonderful stuff and delicious food including one of the best general Tao in the city used to be hot and spicy who moved out ghee as Mr.spicy who sold to new owners and became shing kee. Great menu selection and great value meals for multiple people. We get th menu for 4 all the time 4 soups and appetizers and main courses for a fair price and fresh and delicious great peanut hunan dumplings and shrimp toast and fantastic general Tao chicken and several vegetarian options too good soups and spring rolls too.
I enjoyed a delicious General Tao chicken on the lunch menu. The sauce was perfectly balanced between sweet and spicy, and the chicken, crispy and tender. The service was fast and courteous, and the atmosphere warm. I highly recommend this restaurant for a true Asian treat. I will come back without hesitation.
Unfortunately, this place has gone down hill since ownership change. Took 2 hours for our dinner to be served and it wasn t really busy. We were missing appetizers and main dishes. Sesame beef(usually my favourite) was completely raw, on the inside. When I asked for another one politely, the server told me it s always like this and to choose something else. I ve had the dish at least 20 times, I also know what a piece of raw meat vs a piece of rare, beef looks like. Service and food have decreased since the change.
Fresh food and amazing prices, well worth the short wait to get your food!
I recently dined at shing kee , and I must say, it was a truly delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive and ensured that every part of our meal was perfect. Now, onto the food each dish was a culinary masterpiece. The flavors were authentic and rich, and you could tell that high-quality ingredients were used. Every bite was a testament to the chefs skill and attention to detail. I wholeheartedly recommend [Restaurant Name] to anyone looking for top-notch Chinese cuisine. Its a gem that deserves every one of the five stars Im giving!
I just wanted to write a rave review of restaurant Shing Kee!!! I ll admit I was skeptical after I heard that it had been taken over by new owners because I absolutely loved Mr. Spicy! But I recently held a dinner for 15 people to celebrate an anniversary & birthday. Not only was the food fantastic but I can t say enough good things about the staff!!!! They were so kind and helpful, - our waiters kept checking to make sure we had everything we needed. The cooks got out the food hot and fast for this big hungry group. I was able to bring a big sheet cake which they held in the fridge until dessert time at no additional ost (which I know some places do!) all in all, this was a wonderful experience that I was able to share with my loved ones and they have gained a very loyal customer.
First visit, excellent food. We didnt know we can bring our own wine. We will return.
The white tablecloths were clean but the bathrooms could be cleaner. Portions good. General Tao chicken was crispy and the sauce was tasty. The fried rice was a bit greasy and had very tiny pieces of vegetables. The service was pleasant.
Always fresh, well cooked food. This place does not cheap out on anything. Combo for 2 is a super value for money and BYOB makes the whole evening affordable. Add the friendly staff and you ve got a winning combination.
The waiting time is big and the persons lack of respect
One of the worst experience I have had a restaurant in a long while. Zero service waited 45 min for food. I have seen trailers decorated better. This place is just horrible
Excellent quality
Excellent comfort Chinese food. Hidden gem.
Very good food, service was wonderful!
Ordered on Uber eats for 2, was more than enough food. It was delicious! Thank you for the great meal. Beef noodle and General Tao was so good! Great wonton soupe. I recommend you try it Food : 5/5
I ordered the meal for 2 for $52.95 less 10% when you pick it up at the restaurant. It comes with 2 small soup, 2 appetizers, 2 main dishes, rice, mixed vegetables & a couple of fortune cookies. We enjoyed the won ton soup with shrimp dumplings which had good flavour. The hot and sour soup was okay, not the best Ive had. We ordered the pork dumplings (10) and the vegetable dumplings (10) in peanut butter sauce. Each would be $10.95 separately so it didnt make sense to choose the egg rolls or spring rolls as they only give you 2 which would be $3.90. They were okay; the vegetable ones tasted of mushroom. Peanut butter sauce was very thin. The 2 main dishes were General Tao Chicken and Black Pepper Shrimp with Crispy Spinach. I almost called them to tell them that I hadnt gotten the right General Tao Chicken dish as it was really like the breaded chicken balls you get when you have Cantonese Pineapple chicken with very little sauce, when I realized that maybe was their version. I have had it in many restaurants and made it myself and it was unlike any Ive had before. Okay, if you like those chicken balls, but not when youre expecting real General Taos chicken. You have a choice between steamed rice or egg fried rice. I chose the egg fried rice and did not see any egg; it was more like soy sauce poured over rice and thats it. I would get steamed next time. The vegetables were fine to add something healthy to the meal. The Shrimp in Black Pepper sauce with Crispy Spinach were pretty good with fairly large shrimp in a peppery sauce. Everyone at the restaurant was quite pleasant and Im sure I will return and try some of their other dishes.
Bought 2 main dishes and neither came with rice. Thats fine but maybe mention that on the menu that you have to pay extra for steamed rice. Everything nowadays is extra charge for this or that. Its getting ridiculous
They shouldnt have confirmed my door dash order when they were too busy to make it
Extremely slow service We ve been waiting for over an hour and half because the restaurant waits for additional seating to make batch orders. I get it from a business standpoint but when you have smaller kids; It s unacceptable.
We ordered on Mother s Day and regardless of the rush the food was amazing! Absolutely worth the wait They even gave us a extra noodle plate. Food : 5/5
Our group of 23 had a disappointing dining experience on a Saturday evening, with our reservation set for 6 pm. Regrettably, the restaurant assigned just one elderly server, who appeared overwhelmed and unable to manage our group effectively. Initially, he took orders from only part of the table and promised to return for the others, leading to a significant delay. The first few meals were served at 6:30, but the majority of our orders didnt arrive until after 8:05 pm. When confronted, a young man, possibly the owner or his son, inaccurately claimed we had only placed our orders at 7:45. Its customary in hospitality to take group orders simultaneously to ensure meals are served together, a practice that seemed unfamiliar to them. Unfortunately, the food, when it did arrive, was unsatisfactory, and combined with the poor service, has led us to decide not to patronize this establishment again.
We waited 45 minutes to get the food on the table as we were 25 people about to walk out. The only thing we got on time was the water It was my worst experience and we never go back again.
The best Asian restaurant in Montreal! I highly recommend!
Our first take out order since it changed owners. Food delicious, not as sweet as before. Tom Yum Soup had lots of seafood and broth a lovely spicy taste. Lots of food, will be ordering again! Update A word of advice. For the first time I ordered using the take out option instead of calling directly. Big mistake! Ordered at 4:30 for a 6:10 pick up and despite the app having all my info... the order disappeared into who knows where! Still love the food and the staff is great but the website sucks!
One of the best Chinese restaurants Ive been to in a while. Theyre like 5 minutes from the airport. They have your traditional western Chinese dishes, but also offer some more traditional leaning dishes along with some other Asian dish offerings besides Chinese dishes. I ended up getting the beef with XO sauce. The XO sauce is a dried scallop based sauce, so it has got a lot of unami flavor. Also in the sauce is lots of garlic and ginger. The beef dish was delicious. They marinated the beef slices so that each bite of beef was juicy and tender. I killed the entire dish, and the bowl of rice. Would highly highly recommend.
Stir-fried lobster with ginger and onion very delicious , salt and pepper pork chop is delicious, the waiter and boss are so enthusiastic, Im sorry that there are no photos
Great food, and good prices. The vegetable dumplings are amazing!
The food is delicious and the prices are good, but they need to improve the service time. We waited more than two hours for our main dish.
My go to Asian food restaurant.
Everything is perfect! WOW!
I ordered delivery and the food was so fresh and surprisingly crispy I have never seen any other restaurant pull this off.
Vegetarian options: There are some. Dietary restrictions: Dont be ashamed to tell the waitress about your dietary restrictions. The staff are friendly. Parking: A lot of spots. Kid-friendliness: Very friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible.
The food was nice and the service was quick. Family friendly restaurant with great food options.
It was the first time and we loved all the dishes! Special mention to the garlic spare ribs and sesame beef. We recommend and will recommend! ;-))
Use them for takeout. Excellent food.
Weve ordered 2 deliveries and have been very pleased with the service and the quality of the food we ordered. Very happy that they have opened in Pointe-Claire.
Went there for a late lunch. How can you go wrong with a Won ton soup one spring roll and a plate of Singapore noodles for 13.95$. The food was very good and piping hot. The service very amicable. Was a regular customer under Mr. Spicy but never got the chance to try under the new ownership. Will be back for sure
Three of us each had soup, and appetizers, and shared two main dishes and a rice dish. Food was delicious, hot, and plentiful. Service was attentive. It is not a beautiful restaurant, but the tables are well spaced and it was quiet on a Wednesday evening.
Best Chinese restaurant in West Island . Very good service . Especially love the hot and sour soup and the peanut dumplings. Reasonably priced .
Best Chinese food in West Island!
Best Chinese food in the West Island. Simply amazing. Downside is, its so popular it can take a while before you get your order via delivery. Dining in, the restaurant is small but comfortable. Good service. Bathroom is very small however, basically a closet. =========== Best Chinese food in the West Island. Simply extraordinary. The downside is that it is so popular that it may take a while before you receive your order via delivery. Dine on site, the restaurant is small but comfortable. Good service. Very rude unhygienic unprofessional stuff. Especially with delivery drivers.
The best service and the best Chinese food. It s always a pleasure to go there. But have to go there before the peak hours or after, it s always full or have lots of take out The family running the restaurant are very kind and always welcome you with a big smile! Will come back for sure!!!
Take out is always top quality! Dine in makes a world difference. 10/10 would recommend
Food is always great here. Takeout was really slow but they were overwhelmed
Excellent food and exceptional service. It s difficult to get both these days. The food came out hot, crispy and tasty. Our waiter was attentive, polite, friendly and funny. It s sad that we ve gotten so accustomed to terrible service that we re so shocked when you get it done right. Will definitely go again. The price was fair, the restaurant was clean and well maintained. Looking forward to our next visit.
Now, I apologize for not having a photo of the food, which is why Id assume youre here, but I forgot to grab a pic. However, I was quite happy with the meal. Its a great value when you order the meal for two. The portion was big, and the service was fast. Not to mention, when you pick it up, you get a 10% discount. Id like you to try and beat that. This is a fairly new place, and it has not disappointed
Amazing food, great value, and impeccable service! This is the best value Asian food anywhere West Island or off-island! Tonight the cashier helped me bring my pick-up food to the car seeing I had a baby in my arms. Top-notch service to match their delicious food and unbeatable value!
Formerly Mr. Spicy now Shing Kee still highly recommended. Same great food and excellent service. You won t be disappointed.
Food is just okay but the tall Asian male waiter needs to calm down and respect his clientele. In my one time going here I witnessed rude talking at the other table. He hit the wifes left temple with the water pitcher. The back room with groups is cramped and loud. New restaurant name, same employees. Sorry... Wont go back. La Perle still the best.
Extremely disappointed with the taste.. mr spicy was great and the new ppl serve below average. Waste of $
I was a huge fan of Mr. Spicy. I went in for dinner, not knowing what to expect of the new owners, but they surpassed all my expectations. The food was excellent, and the service was amazing. I highly recommend.
Ordered the lunch special with pork chops; it came with wonton soup, spring roll, veggies and main dish. Excellent wonton soup. Love the snack type chips with orange sauce. Excellent and speedy service. A fortune cookie for dessert. Enjoyable meal !
Changed name recently service is much faster , food is great, service ( speak very well English In my experience so no communication issues) dine for 2 the price is so good for the amount of food you get( especially since everything is so expensive now !!! I love this place I go often. I recommend
The service, food and atmosphere was really good. The lunch time menu was quite affordable.
Same great restaurant as mr spicy just a name change to avoid having to pay revenue quebec.
Good food, ample portions, nice taste. Similar to Mr Spicy, good lunch menu. Must try! Reasonably priced.
I was hopeful after appetizers, the soups delivered and Hunan dumplings were delicious. Their Peanut Shrimp turned out to be Shrimp with peanut sauce and crispy spinach. I guess I had envisioned the former Mr Spicy peanut chicken, which it wasnt. I had to send it back. We replaced it with shrimp with ginger and shallots which was really nice shrimp smothered in nearly raw onions. I dared not send it back. We also had General Tao chicken which was too sour for my taste. I think I must cross my old favorite restaurant off my list.
Food was decent. Unfortunately, one of the waiters was crabby and unprofessional. The other waiter was great. Big plates. Prices are good. Give it a try..
GREAT FOOD.. Ordered for the first time from this restaurant and is by far the best general Tao and crispy beef I have ever tasted. I was reluctant to buy from mr epice but now that it has changed ownership why not. SUPER...... CRISPY AND FRESH...the way it is supposed to be. Congrats to your chef. Will definitely re order. Great value as well.
Great chinese restaurant in the west island, much improved over the mr.spicy it replaced, would return.
The best restaurant in the westisland Chinese food at its best, tried 4 different Players, amazing food guys, and keep up the good work, now its every week for my evening supper on Thursday night. Thanks again Food : 5/5 |
Its pretty similar to the previous incarnation (Mr Spicy), but I feel like the food is a little better. I ordered cashew chicken, pork peanut butter dumplings and an egg roll. I liked everything I ordered. Delicious taste, good portions. A bit pricey, but not unreasonable.
Very good service and the food is comparable to Chinatown. Finally a real Chinese restaurant in the West Island!
The food is sooo goood!!! You might have to ask the waiter to explain the menu because for me it wasnt clear but it definitely wont be my last time going there. Very fresh and tasty the only draw back that I was quite disappointed in was they never ask you if you want tea or coffee, its like okay you ate your meal here is the check time to go. Mind you, there was only one waiter serving everyone and he did a great job but no coffee or tea??? Ohhh and i forgot to mention its bring your own wine!!! Yay!!
Yum
Excellent
Dishes eaten: shrimp wonton soup, General Tao chicken, orange beef, vegetable fried rice, all excellent. Courteous and friendly service, but a little overwhelmed.
Formerly known as Mr. Spicy. We shared a combo for 2 people which included 2 soups, 2 appetizers, 2 mains, rice and a vegetable dish. Had leftovers to take home with the portions given. General Tao is more on the orange spicy side but very good and the fried noodles with black bean sauce were excellent. Service was good. The exterior of the building is misleading as to the insides renovated interior. Vegetarian options: Tofu dishes offered among seafood and vegetarian only options
Excellent service and lots of great options. Sesame beef chicken, fried rice and the vegetables are my top picks for you! The portions are big enough for 2 people and the other portion is enough for 4 people. Food : 5/5
The food was excellent and everything was great! The service is professional and impeccable. Great variety. I recommend it!
Gyuuu bagage
the most highest class Chinese restaurant at west island
Excellent! My go-to chinese spot. I recommend this place to everyone, must try
Restaurant Shing Kee is a welcome addition to the Szechuan food scene in the west island. The food and variety are excellent quality, provide tasty offerings and portions at a reasonable price. Although we have only done take-out so far, the service when ordering and pick up had been helpful and friendly. Will Definity return.
The food was delicious. I had beef and broccoli, which came with wonton or hot and sour soup (I took the hot & sour, which was great.) Service was excellent, and its very affordable. Theyve spruced up the interior of the place with a coat of paint. Ill be going again.
The food was OK but my wife went into the ladies bathroom and that was a turnoff. The toilet was shaky and the room was old and not nice at all. She was wondering if this is how they keep their bathrooms what is their kitchen like? I dont think we will be back to find out.
Very good
Much better than a few weeks after they opened.
They have great food!
The food is amazing love the hunan peanut butter dumplings must try and also the salt and pepper pork chop and general tao were great! Parking: Parking right next to the restaurant and lots of space
I cant actually comment on service and atmosphere as i ordered from ubereats but the food was excellent, highly recommend
Hot spicy pepper beef was good but not a big portion. Hunan dumplings were nice. Shrimp toast wasnt as shrimpy as other places. Spring roll was fine.
I use to go regularly to Mr Spicy and the food at the new Shing Kee is very comparable. Lunch portions seem to have gotten slightly smaller. Overall you can t beat their lunch menu pricing though.
Great take for a fast supper. Been before and will go again.
My family was very happy to try Shing Kee for the first time last night. Were sick of the low quality, oily Chinese options in the west island and were really pleased with the food quality we received from Shing Kee. We ordered it to DDO (they deliver) and EVERYTHING was great although delivery did take over an hour. The general tao chicken and tofu were lightly battered and mostly chicken/tofu, unlike most other places that are more batter. The fried rice noodles werent stuck together but also werent excessively greasy - hard to come across! The peanut butter dumplings were a hit as were the salt and pepper shrimp and tofu.. honestly the best Chinese weve had in the west island in a long time. Thanks!
Excellent service and quality of food is second to none.
One of the nicest Chinese restaurants in the West Island, Shing Kee is well known to us for its variety and price. And its a Bring Your Own Wine too, which makes it even nicer in my opinion. One of its best features is its Combo policy. If one person at the table orders the Combo for 2, all the table have a choice of Combo for one and you can take home anything that you dont eat, which we use to our advantage every time! The choice is amazing and their dumplings in peanut source is the best starter I know. Last time we were there, we were in a group of 12 and the table next to us were a similar group. It was a noisy room, but in the past we have been in the main dining room which is much quieter. During Covid, in the Mr Spicy days (now replaced with Shing Kee), we ordered by phone and took home the meal, which was always good. Vegetarian options: They have a full page of vegetarian options on their menu, plus rice and noodles. Dietary restrictions: My wife eats Gluten Free and there are lots of options. Parking: A big parking lot dedicated to this restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Lots of options for kids.
I just ordered from there for the first time and I m very happy with the freshness and amounts of food I got for the price!
Very sad to see that one of the two meals ordered, the chicken was not cooked. Pink meat that does not fall apart. The other meal, pad thai, was good. After discussion with the receptionist, they will issue a credit, not a refund, for a main course. There were a lot of orders, so in my opinion, the chef was trying to get the maximum order out in a short time, and the cooking was not respected. For beef its okay. But chicken no.
