The restaurant changed owners. The ambiance is the same however the food isnt on par. It isnt bad just not as good anymore. The price was low and service consistent.

We were Sushi St Jean on Oct 24, 2024 for lunch and a friend (retiree). We finished lunch, paid and left the restaurant 2:15 PM to head Toronto. I realized that they had a senior rate $23.99 but they charged regular rate $28.99 to each of us (3 retirees). We are 70s by appearance but didnt guide the senior rate. The server had terrible mistake and rip-off from us.

We went to the new sushi Hin restaurant. Few days ago, we met the owner and he offered us 50% off if we came back to eat here. When we came back 2 days ago, we asked the staff to confirm that we can get a 50% discount and he said yes. However, when we were getting our bill, the waiter gave us the full amount and when we asked about the discount again, he said that it was only 15% and that they never give more than that. This was very misleading of their part as we would have never came to eat here if it was not for the discount. Ended up still paying 45$ each, with the 15% discount!

The worst place in montreal... dont throw your money away! Go to Taketa or Matsuno.

Being regular diners at HOT N SPICY, And MR. Spicy, both of which are now closed, we were very disappointed with this place. The food was flavourless, the fried sushi was overcooked. The peanut butter chicken was bland. The pad Thai noodles were dry. The wonton soup was ok. The imperial roll was nothing special. The shrimps were good. General Tao chicken was good. The sesame beef was dry and chewy. Peanut butter dumplings were good. Overall not great. Wont be returning. Dont recommend. On Facebook post they said they were offering 15% for a short time. When I got bill, there was no discount shown. I mentioned it to the waiter, he said I needed to ask for it. He begrudgingly went and changed the bill to reflect the discount. So, not impressed. I assumed since they posted a discount on the bill, it would have been automatically deducted from bill. Live and learn. Being this is Montreal, Im sure there are better restaurants out there.

It looks like the management changed when the restaurant changed its name. The place was neater and cleaner. Its easier to order with QR code (instead of tablet). The supper menu includes a variety of sashimi, beef tataki, tuna tataki, and so on. (Although tataki is limited per person, the portion is not that small). Sashimi is fresh. Sushi tastes good, and all the other food tastes good as well. Service was quick. I went shortly after they re-opened, so the restaurant was empty most of the time. But Im not sure if its busier now. If you are not sure, you can call to reserve in advance.

***Update - March 3, 2024*** Finally got a chance to try out the newly reopened location. Reservations can be made by phone or online. We went for lunch on a Sunday. Service was friendly and quick. They always came by to take away our empty plates and refill water. Food was tasty. Sashimi is back on the menu for lunch. But soft drinks are not included in the price anymore. Overall, we are glad they are back. Food was just as good as we remember. Although it would have been nice if soft drinks were still included in the price of the meal. Clients now need to scan the QR code located on their table to order through their phone Still highly recommended _______________________________________________________________ Latest visit was this past July 2021 for lunch Made a reservation during the week, got there at opening and was seated promptly. Food was good as usual. But the one change that we noticed compared to the last time we came (July 2020) was that there is NO sashimi offered at lunch anymore. (Only at dinner according to the website). We are not sure if this a permanent change or if they will offer it for lunch again in the future. Keep in mind that weekends are quite busy.

The service was great, but my son experienced diarrhea and vomiting multiple times after eating sushi here. The salmon may not have been fresh and of poor quality.

This is the best place to eat sushi. Abundance and very tasty! Recommend! Plus very comfortable sofas.

The sushi was pretty decent for a new sushi spot, though I did prefer the old sushi st jean. The menu also didnt have a bunch of variety and some of my favorite foods were sadly not on the menu anymore. The service was mediocre. The boss was super friendly but one of the waiters seemed as though he wanted us to eat quickly so we could get out. Though I am going to give it 4 stars because its a new restaurant and there is potential for developpment.

Update for the new Sushi Hin: very good service and clean. New tables and some new items on the menu. Fresh Sashimi and delicious cuisine dishes. A lot better than the old St-Jean.

It seems the restaurant changed the owner. We went this week and the menu has change offering less variety with mich more expensive cost than before. It has besome very expensive for less items in the menu. We also noticed some items changed the taste which makes it less tasty as it used to be . I will not come back there

The place changed COMPLETELY, 10000% WORTH IT AND BETTER after the place closed for 8 month they changed everything , the food is crazy good now , after going all over montreal to all you can eats , this must be the best right now , the service is crazy good like ive never seen before , the new manager Ming is the best restaurant manager ive seen in the past few years in restaurants in general , an absolute amazing and professional person !!

I do not understand why theyre still taking reservations and it says theyre open on google even though theyre closed due to renovations!! I live 30 mins away from DDO and I only found out that theyre closed at the time of my reservation.

I am really disappointed with my experience there. I wanted to bring my 2 little sisters to eat and I relied on the prices on the site before going. Once I arrived there, it was after eating that I realized that the prices at the restaurant and on the website are different, they should have charged me less for my 12 year old sister and they gave her a regular price, thats just dont eat there even the waiters are bad they stare at you when you eat, I was assigned to a tabled in front of them close to the counter and really no manners 0 welcome Im so disgusted with the place I would really like a refund but its too late if I can boycott them I would and thats it I hope after reading my testimony you will think twice before to go

Food is good but the time it takes to serve even one dish is VERY VERY slow. Waited for more than half and hour (45min~) and basically ate nothing except a few sushi (around 5 or 6) and a bowl of soup.

Horrible Service off the bat. Table broken, often moving. We ask for the table to be replaced, yet ignored three 1-2 employees. One rather tried to fixate the table instead of acknowledging our demands. Food is great on the other hand. No respect from some members of the staff. It is truly a depressing experience which simply oppresses the mood.

Extremely disappointed. I go to sushi St-Jean with my boyfriend at least 5 times a month. Not including when I go for lunch by myself. When I called tonight I asked when last call would be they said 8:45. So I drove all the way from lasalle to the West Island. Upon arrival (8:30) we were told we could not have a table as last call was at 8:30 tonight. The reason I was given was that they were short staffed. This makes no sense to me since they made it through the entire night. All this to say I will never be returning.

On December 10th 2022. I had the worst experience. First of all, I was having lunch with my friends. We were 3 people, two of us were going to eat and one want going to. As soon as they know that my friend isn t going to eat they came rudely and left his plate and his glass of water and a waiter told him « please don t touch the food since you re not going to pay ». My friend was kind of embarrassed that he was obliged to pay knowing that he doesn t eat sea food Second of all, we spilt the bills on three people then I didn t leave tips. The waiter embarrassed me in front of my friends and asked me « why didn t you leave tips ». They don t have the right to ask me about tips, imagine if I don t have or bring enough money for the tips, why would you embarrass me. Although the service wasn t that good and the food wasn t really well cooked! We changed a chicken plate more than two or three times. The first time, it smelled bad and the second time, the chicken wasn t cooked properly. I hope you can find a solution for this problem and that it s not nice to ask clients about tips.

I do not recommend this restaurant Me and my boyfriend went for dinner and the portions were way too big especially since if we dont eat the whole portion we have to pay extra. Some sushi was not made with the right fish. We left a good tip in my opinion and the waiter was not happy he gave us the bill roughly without a good evening despite our kindness.

Was there last night with my family. We had noticed that the restaurant was rather empty for a Thursday night, however we decided to go in anyway. It was not our first time, however we noticed that several of the menu items were no longer available and the menu has downsized. The sushi pieces were rather small and tasteless. The vegetable beef friend rice had no vegetables except for diced onion. Also, there is more imitation of frozen fish on the menu than fresh fish. The service was horrible. We needed to ask several times to have our water filled. We were debating to not give a tip and ended up giving one anyway. I strongly DONT SUGGEST that you eat here at this restaurant. It is not worth the price. 40$ per person is ridiculous for the lack of choice and selection on the menu. If I could, I would rate this 0 star.

Service is very very slow. Some items are not available. They keep you waiting for atleast 30 mins and dont let you know that the items are finished. They dont listen. And its expensive and waste of money

Very very baaaaad service and they demand tips from children after giving them subpar service. And when I give them tips the waiter said: only this amount? actually they don t deserve any tip. And if I was able to give them zero star I would do it.

They dont even deserve the 1 star.. Absolutely by far the worst customer service Ive ever experienced. They werent our first choice but every other sushi place had an hour wait.. I called this store and was told we dont make reservations first come first serve, we have 2 tables available right now we were literally 2 minuntes away, so we get there and are told to wait 10-15 mins while being passed by people that said they called and made reservations.. my wife and I have an almost 2 year old baby with us that was cranky which made this wait a bit difficult.. We waited patiently and eventually got seated..we waited roughly 20-30 mins between each order to come to us and became hungrier as we waited for our food, all they would constantly do is fill up our water.. pretty much all the food besides the few rolls we ordered were horribly burnt and not edible..we all became impatient and we decided to leave.. asked for the bill, I was outraged that they charged $12 for our baby.!! I asked for the manager, and might I add hes a disgrace of a manager!l I asked the simple question and got yelled at nothing is free, go to Macdonalds.. I told him my daughter ate exactly 2 fries and 1 roll.. I then told him that I would have to go to McDonalds because Im hungrier now then when I came in, and they would serve us faster.. act and speak like a human not an animal, learn how to speak to paying customers..we didnt even get the food we ordered!! I paid my $105 bill and left.. I only left because we live 2 hrs away and the baby was getting sleepy.. I dont ever want to put down a small business, we should all support them.. But lm still outraged at their horrible customer service.. if you want to have sushi do yourself a favour and go anywhere else the wait will definitely be worth it..

Staff was nice. Sushi selection is mediocre, mostly basic rolls with rice. Cheap with the fish on the sushi. The place definitely needs Improvement. I wouldnt recommend it.

Food wise, the restaurant food and service was ok, but my advise to the restaurant was that, it could be more pleasant if they can maintain the floors and washroom to look clean and neat, . After eating and enjoying the meal, my trip to the washroom visit was a mistake!!! The owner have to consider looking after this problem. My son and I went to this Sushi Restaurant. This was my first time at a sushi Restaurant since 2005, therefore, I did not know what to expect. I was given a pad to select my dish. The customer can select multiple dishes, multiple times. (I was told by our waiter that it is all you can eat). Two of the dishes I selected was a shrimp dish, when I selected it a window popped up that stated 4 per selection. I also selected a sushi dish, a window popped up that stated 4 per selection. There was nothing showing how much each selection cost. When my waiter finally brought my shrimp dish it was one single shrimp on a platter. When I enquired about it, he informed me that it was because I had selected that dish only once. The sushi dish, he brought me two, not four and also my son it was two, not four. But what he did was added my two and my sons two on the same platter to make it 4. Instead of each of us receiving 4 Sushi as per the pop up. I believe these things only happed to certain people of color because they think we are stupid. Had I made a scene, from my experience, my son and I would have been the ones with the issue. When people have never been in your shoes, they just do not understand. However, whatever little we got, did taste very good. I did enjoy my meal. Unfortunately, we were shortchanged. In the end, we were given a receipt in a Foreign language, maybe Chinese or Japanizes, I dont know. The only thing I recognized on the bill was $57.73 Owning a Restaurant in Quebec, Canada and presenting a client with a bill that is written not in our two official languages but in Japanize. This is insulting, disrespectful and illegal. My sons favorite Restaurant, is located near home. It is called Buffet Chows. We have always been treated with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, post Covid we can only order take out. My family normally visits a Restaurant at least once a month and never had any issues. This was the first. My son and I decided to just put this whole bad experience behind us. We will not be returning to this particular Restaurant. However, in the near future, we will certainly visit another Sushi Restaurant.

Its good. Some visits have been better than others. The one thing I will say is when they run out of something (each time I have been) they don t take the availability off the tablet. They don t inform you if it s not going to come so you re waiting for something that will never arrive while you could have been ordering something else.

well .. menu was reduced.. octopus was advertised part of the ayce and you were able to order via tablet.. not out of stock... they told us it was out... for 1 month already.. take it off the menu and all other things not to misleed customers... we ate 6 pieces of maki .. 5 shrimps coke and root beer for 42.50$ they cit 50% ....hopefully.. wr ate nothing.... as we decided to leave because we were not able to get what we ordered. Place was also empty.. more staff than customers.... I have been to this location over 3o times.. Thank you guys I will never go back. Note. staff is nice . nothing to say about that.. for me it is only false advertising and poor operations. . we should have been warned befire starting the order....not after 10 minutes.. so you feel just unconfortable enough not to leave... Sorry that was not the case.. money wasted...with a bitter memory...

Got here at 1:20 Ordered food. It took them 25 minutes to get our order, they started giving us little by little food it was now 2,15 and still didn t receive full order .they charged us and made us pay the bill by 2:45 SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE .THEY DIDNT GIVE US WATER .DEFINITELY NOT COMING BACK !!!!

Worst sushi place ever, asked four time for a fork and a tea cup for two received only one. As I received my order, the waiter brought me the bill, telling me that I have to pay now because theyre closing, but i can continue eating. I told that it disrespectful specially that we waited for 35 minutes to get our order. Whats worst when I told him to live the bill for the end before my desert he started laughing knowing that it wasnt funny at all. Was charged 90 dollars. At the end and I was rushed that it made lose my appetite. Wouldnt suggest anyone to go spend a dollar. Poor and rude customer service.

Food is great, but service is ok, not great. No follow up done, and no message for due orders (10 min after ordering). Some items are super quick to reserve, while some arriving 30 min after.

What a horrible experience!! We used to come and it was less correct. They even charge for the 1 year old baby, price $12.99! A child 6 years old $19.99. When you order you dont always receive the entire order, the waiters pretend not to understand (or they dont understand). We asked for the bill and baby started to cry and we wanted to put 15% tip (the 15% is out of respect for the job that the waiters do, I wouldnt have given 1%) the waiter put 18% to the place because I was holding the baby and not paying attention, it was when I arrived home that I realized it. In short, it will be the last time in our entire lives that we go there.

Arrival at 8:00 p.m. 8:30 p.m. a nice waiter takes the order tablet away from us, telling us that the kitchen is closing, for the restaurant to close at 10 p.m., then, 9 p.m. with our sushi in our mouths, Arrival of the waiter with the TPE to cash us, how can I say that this frustrates a moment of sharing with family. Not a big fan of the organization of this restaurant. I would still like to say that the staff is very cheerful.

Good place for shushi however when is busy you dont get your full order. Last time we got part of the order after we got the dessert and we were actually getting ready to leave.

We had made a reservation on the website just to arrive at the restaurant and see that it was closed. This is the third time we have come to this restaurant and it is closed even though it is shown open on Google and on their website. Very disappointing. Dont come a long way just to eat at this restaurant because most of the time it is closed.

For an All you can eat restaurants the sushis and rest of meals tasted very good. My cocktail was well made. The price is fair but service mediocre. I wont complain about it because I didnt go for the services but a smile and basic courtesy is always appreciated.

Read articles about this restaurant being infested with flies but I personally never had any trouble there. Good location, sometimes packed but the ambiance is pleasant. Service is slow and they sometimes forget to deliver stuff you order but all in all, great variety of food.

today left us with an impression of indifferent service in this Japanese restaurant. The waiters barely smiled and didnt provide enough attention. Additionally, the dining environment was quite disappointing, with tables not clean enough, which made us feel uncomfortable.

It was my sushi place... Twice in a row its closed, twice in a row Ive gone to Kanda on the corner of Décarie and Jean Talon and Im not disappointed at all. The sashimi beef was better at Sushi St-Jean, and the fountain drinks were unlimited, but other than that, Kanda nat Sushi St-Jean in every other way. Unfortunately for Sushi St-Jean, they just lost me as a customer, and probably my 2 sushi friends as well. Too bad, pay your gas bill before losing all your customers!
