I had fish and mashed potatoes. Every bite was a burst of flavor in my mouth The batter was light and crunchy and thin better than any restaurant in this town !
I came in on Monday at about 7:30 and sat at the bar and was quickly served. I ordered a bee beer from dog mountain brewing and fish and chips with a garden salad. The food came really fast with great presentation and the beer was super fresh. My waitress was super friendly and accomadating to make sure everything was up to my standard, and my expectations were exceeded. I'm happy to have this place in town.
Colby was our server and she is amazing. Personable and friendly. We ordered gluten free items and they were delicious. The drinks were perfect and reasonable. They have a nice atmosphere since renovating. The pool table area is inviting and I am looking forward to testing the table out.
Clubhouse was very small but wasn't terrible. Soup was initially cold but brought me a new one and was delish. Husband got the Greek chicken bowl and quite enjoyed it. Service was good
As I begin this, I want to say that I want the new Westwind pub to be successful. We need more great pubs/restaurants in Port Alberni and I was very excited to see the Westwind reopen. That said, there is a lot of work needed to get there. I've been twice since reopening 6-ish weeks ago, and this review is representative of my two experiences. The servers are also the hosts and always seem to be scrambling to find folks seats (good on them for their hard work!) -- they should have a dedicated host for busy evenings/weekends to make things smoother. The service, while pleasant, is very slow. We were not advised of out of stock (OOS) items upon being seated, but only found out once we tried to order and found out that 3 of the 5 'served after 5pm' mains were OOS. There were a number of taps either run out and not replenished (my first drink choice was OOS) or 'not good' as I heard one server describe a cider tap to a nearby family. I ordered a New England hazy IPA and got something ' hazy belgian'. The banana flavor was unmistakable from the Belgian yeast. Since my first food choice was OOS, I ended up ordering the steak sandwich, which is listed as a NY 6oz (implying a NY strip)... But was more akin to a skirt or flank cut. It had a strong iron taste, and was unfortunately overcooked -- but after waiting over an hour for food, I did not dare send it back. The crispy onions that accompied the sandwich were stale, hard and inedible, but the sauteed mushrooms were nice. On the positive side, my wife LOVED her taco salad bowl - she raved about the corn ribs, and my son enjoyed his chili cheese waffle fries. On a previous visit, I had the wings for Wing night. The wings were crispy and delicious -- my only (small) complaint was I ordered 2 flavours and couldn't tell them apart.
Cool atmosphere! Ordered Twin City beer, cauliflower wings and fries. Fries were great. Beer was great. Cauliflower wings were frozen and full of raw batter. Server checked on us only once after 30-35 minutes. Super nice lady. It’s alright but they really need to step up their game if they want to succeed, considering all the good restaurants we have in town.
Came to Port Albernie for a weekend getaway as I normally do as I pass through on the way to Tofino and came across this gem of a pub! Being from newfoundland I am accustomed to a good pub and this one is rather well put together. The decor is fresh and rustic in a new age modern way. It was bustling with a good group of patrons all laughing, smiling and appeared as though everyone was enjoying their time. I was alone but the staff made me feel so welcomed and put in an amazing effort to strike up a conversation. I enjoyed a few amazing pints from their vast selection which were some of the coldest beers that I have had from a pub in a while especially during this summer heat. Although I never had anything to eat the menu looked amazing and I will definitely be coming back to try some of their fine fair. Everything looked reasonable priced and for those who were eating seemed to be enjoying what they did order. Shout out to Erica (the amazing bartender) who was pulling my pints and on her game with making sure my glass was full and her amazing conversations, which is worth so much to a lonely traveler. As well as to the GM Reaha who was on her game and who struck up some good conversations and made me feel at home.
So glad to have our local pub back❤️ it has been too long. The service was great, our server was attentive and professional, she tempted us with a new purple shimmery gin, yum. The food was great. The bathrooms are gorgeous. There is a cozy couch area by the fireplace now. A new look and feel with some of the old flavour too.

Ordered the mushroom burger....pattie was over done, few mushrooms, but the salad was fresh. Service was good.

Cozy pub, lots of wood . I had a Shrimp and Avocado salad. It was a generous serving of shrimp and half an avocado on top. All served on a fancy lettuce base. Parking: Lots of well-spaced parking, most in shaded spots.

One of the worst experiences pub wise Ive ever had, all the servers were obviously under the influence, spending more time drinking at the bar then tending their customers, once we finally got our food it was a let down to say the least, poor quality and underwhelming too match the service. Would rate less then 1 Star if I could, in other words find somewhere else to eat if youre passing thru
Me and sisters waited 20 minutes before being asked what we wanted to drink.After that we waited another 10 minutes for beverges. Finally after 30 minutes we asked if we can order food. No cutrelly was presented to us until requested , After 1.5 hour s waiting for nachos we paid our beverage bill and asked why are we being so rude?
Since the reopening, service is awful. Fo d is good though but nothing special. Food got to us fairly quickly but everything else was slow. Dirty glass given to me for my water. Long time to get a water and long time to get the bill.
A shadow of its former self. The reopening could have been great, but every corner was cut and it shows. Food, labor, decor, service, everything is the minimum. Check dates on reviews - most are for previous ownership that closed years ago before covid. Inattentive service. Not advised of unavailable items or long food wait times when we sat. We had to call over our server for the basics (water, cutlery, refills). Bland and uninspiring food, lacking seasoning, with no love or interest on the plate. Two menu pages devoted to wings with 20 sauce options and a dozen versions of dressed up fries. Other items scattered around the menu. Two mains took an hour in a mostly empty dining room. Atmosphere was a cold room on a cold day, no one knew how to change the AC temperature, free-tier Spotify playlist including ads, patio solarium ceiling leaking during rain, fireplace not lit. Ironically owners have jingle pot pub in Nanaimo, which is decent. So they SHOULD be able to do better, but its not happening here.
I really enjoy coming here its a great place to sit and enjoy a beer theyve come a long way since they reopened dont let one experience fool you. I wasnt impressed when I went there for drinks and food it was terrible but now they are crushing it

Extremely pointless to compare apples to oranges which is what is going on here! No connection whatsoever to any previous relationship with the Westwind Pub!
Just went for wing Wednesday Was delicious......way better than Alberni brewing the wings are so much better! Definitely recommend everyone to try the west wind. Finally a proper pub in Port Alberni

Some dishes were really good (veal cutlets). My girlfriend had a veggie blt, they got the order wrong and it was a pretty small serving/sandwich. Waitress was friendly.

Love that they have a Vegan menu and great local beer on tap! Definitely recommend the cauliflower bites and Beyond burger!! They also have a really yummy house-made Vegan queso :)

Basic pub. No frills but staff are pleasant. Food was more or less the old style way of doing things. Memories of the old truck stops come to mind. Give it a shot. Have a burger and a beer. What have you got to lose. Just your license if you have one too many and get pulled over.

Great server, food was slow, wings tasted like fish (probably fried in the same fryer oil). Heard they got a new head chef definitely not the same as it was as we used to be regulars. Plain Caesar salad was 14.99 and was tiny and fairly bland. Place smells like bathroom when you walk in and then men s bathroom is absolutely disgusting. The decor is questionable, is this bar rock and roll themed, ocean themed, or logging themed? The rock and roll decor on the back wall is very tacky. The restaurant is always cold. Would not recommend and will not return. The only reason I m giving 2 stars is because our server was pleasant and working to the best of her ability, all things considered.
Half my order was missed. Wings tasted like fish, and half of them were broken bones=cheap wings.

We showed up without any notice on a quiet Sunday night with a group of around 30 people. I am sure the staff had a bit of a heart attack! At any rate, they were very happy to see us, and worked as quickly as possible to serve all of us. Food was a bit slow, but honestly, with 30 people, they did a fantastic job. I just ordered a burger with poutine. The burger was fantastic. The poutine would have been better with curds instead of mozza, but not bad considering. I am from out of town, so wont likely eat there often, but would not hesitate for a second to go back - if I lived closer, I would certainly make it one of my regulars.

Had extremely bad service experience , it was terrible. Waitress forgot to put in our order we waited over an hour for our food to only have missing and cold items on our plate. our meals arrived different times so we couldnt eat as a family. Waitress was very unprofessional and lacked proper customer service skills. Went home hangry! Spoke with management and issue was never rectified. Would not recommend.
Great wings but no more wing night. I was surprised when I pay $15 for a plate they have gotten more expensive in the last few years. Also more attention needed for the bathrooms. I dont know if I have been to a pub with only one working urinal.

A small group of us came in for drinks and lunch. The staff and service were top notch, but one trip to the washrooms will have you running for the door! Spend a little money people and this will be a five star!

A nice seafaring atmosphere and good food too. Lots of seating inside and out, and the occasional live band. Westwind pub is a regular stop for us on the way through town.

Came here before and had good food at dinner time, came again later in the evening a different time and service was terrible. Took 25 mins of sitting and at the bar just to get a beer, Id expect that from a meal not a drink.
