Everything here is to die for ! Do yourself a favour and stop in at grassroots. Absolutely delicious !!!

Wow, how have I not reviewed this place yet?! My family and I come to this beautiful little gem at least once a week. The kids play at the playground and my husband and I enjoy our beautiful coffee and breakfast sandwiches. The coffee is too notch, some of the best or maybe even the best in all of Port Alberni. The staff are friendly, and this is a locally owned place that makes all of their stuff right there in their tiny little shop. Always impressed, always satisfied with this cafe. They also do catering, which Ive had twice and its unreal! Kid-friendliness: Smoothies and muffins keep the kids happy, and theres a (pirate ship themed) playground right beside it!

Incredible tasting coffee with a view. Celiac friendly with lots of gluten free (and vegan) options including the poke bowl and Vietnamese noodle bowl with house made hoisin.

Their braised beef sami sandwich is a must-try. Highly recommended stop for lunch and coffee on the way to or coming back from Tofino. Excellent, welcoming service as well.

Wonderful lake front with tables and a playground. The coffee has great beverages and coffee. It also has good food (even for kids). We had the poke with fish and it was delicious.

Try the smoked salmon sandwich, awesome. Good service but mediocre sitting options.

Wow this might be the best damn oat milk latte I ve ever had! I drink a half-caf and with the decaf, often my coffee is a bit weak. Not this one! It tasted full with a touch of nuttiness. Delish!

The Inari pockets were amazing. We tried all three kinds. Also, the matcha and chai drinks were perfect.

This has become our go-to stop in Port. Great food, service, and coffee - love that they have Detour beans!

OMG - I ve traveled all over the world and had some amazing foods (specially in Japan). Grassroots in Port Alberni , BC is amazing. We had a great matcha drink and a poke bowl / Vietnamese noodle bowl.,So goood! Ingredients super fresh and flavors were next level. Stop by - you ll love it.

I had the chicken pita for breakfast and it was one of the heartiest things Ive eaten from a restaurant in port alberni. I especially liked the pickled Cabbage on it. Indie and the rest of the crew were super awesome and quick. Highly

A must try on your way up to Tofino! We had the beef sandwich, Vietnamese noodle bowl and carrot cake - all amazing ! Especially the braised beef sandwich.

Amazing!! Got some coffees and a carrot cake. Some of the best carrot cake Ive ever had, was very surprised to stumble on such a gem on the way to Tofino!

Love the breakfast sammi! With sausage, greens and mayo it was delicious. The English miffin was soft and crispy too. Definitely getting that again.

This place is worth detouring for even if you re not staying in Port Alberni. I had an absolutely delicious breakfast sandwich (truly the best I ve ever had) and a yummy iced oat latte with homemade vanilla syrup. My partner throughly enjoyed his inari pocket and we and the kids devoured the carrot cake. Great customer service from kind staff. We ll be back for sure! Thank you from one appreciative foodie family!

Super friendly staff, really cute location! unfortunately super overpriced :/ Ordered a tea and a london fog and paid $13 . oat milk surcharge was $1.25, kinda crazy. also the london fog used earl grey powder which was way more expensive and so much worse than just a regular tea.

Had a noodle bowl and a smoothie and they were both unreal. Quality food and really cool staff.

La very experienced, friendly barista made us Latte, Cortado and Kids Hot Chocolate and it was all ultra delicious. As was the salty chocolate cookie. No inside seating, couple tables outside. Cool place by the harbour, I would definitely come again.

Not much places to sit and takes few minutes for the food or drinks but its worth the wait with how good it is

Exceeded expectations in every way. Gorgeous complex toasty espresso flavours, incredibly flavourful food prepared well. Very much worth a visit.

Best coffee we ve had in ages. We had a flat white, a latte and a beautiful salted chocolate gluten free cookie. If you re looking for good quality coffee in Port Alberni this is your place. Very scenic to go spot on the water downtown.

The Grassroots staff is amazing, always very cheery and upbeat even when the weather is obscenely hot. The food is all homemade and fresh, the espresso drinks are all very well done (hot or iced) as well. If Im saying theyre good its true, because Im such a coffee nerd. The location is also second to none.

As a visitor from England, I have to say Grassroots café in Port Alberni offered some of the tastiest and healthiest food Ive had on my month long Canadian adventure ( and superb coffee too, both times I went and ordered there). Friendy service from great people, cant recommend it too highly.

This place is a legit Port Alberni gem! The food is *chefs kiss* local items - locally baked bread - fresh fresh ingredients! Amazing coffee!! The service is quick, attentive and thorough. Outdoor only seating, so come prepared to take in the breathtaking view of the harbour There s even a park for the kiddlets A++

Just stopped for a coffee, had an excellent Cortado and a most beautiful Inari pocket. So delicious.

This is a fabulous cafe in the pretty harbour area of Port. We had a lemonade made with coconut milk one day and a special salad another day which was filling and delicious.

Fresh and delicious food with a wide variety of beverages to choose from. Weve always had excellent service. Kid-friendliness: Its right next to a playground which is perfect!

So happy this place is here. Hands down the best fresh food in town. Over a couple visits I ve had the Smoked Steelhead sandwich, Spicy Chicken Pita Wrap, Inari Pocket and the Roasted Butternut Squash soup and they all featured fresh quality ingredients and great flavour, handmade in-house. Excellent espresso coffee too. I hope they see lots of success and can grow into a larger place with indoor seating (smart to start with lower overhead costs!).

This is the best soup and sandwich I ve had in a very long time - mainland food options included. The ingredients are beautifully balanced relying on flavor and quality, and not on fats, salts, or sugars. It s very obvious to me that the chef and creator of this food has experience in top notch fine dining and is able to translate that background effortlessly into a variety of sandwiches, wraps, and soups. They also serve coffee. This is a must stop and definitely worth a detour.

This place is a hidden gem down by the water in Port Alberni. Amazing fresh food, desserts, and tasty drinks. My personal favourite is the Mango Lassi smoothie with yogurt and cardamom. Keep up the great work. Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie options.

Everytime I am in the area I make a point of stopping by for some food and a coffee. They always manage to do a great job with everything they do!

Im pleased to bestow upon this eatery the rhapsodic rating it deserves. The food is yumtastic, the people are friendly and funny, and the prices are entirely reasonable. Its little wonder, then, that my wife and I pick up grub at Grassroots several times a week. I give this establishment my most enthusiastic endorsement! Vegetarian options: They always have a vegan option thats scrumpdillyumptious!

Just had the soup bowl with rice noodles and curry ! It was so good I crushed it in two minutes. Located down by the water on the quay. Also got an oat chai latté. The perfect lunch . Vegan options gluten free options super healthy but also super tasty. Sandwiches were made on sourdough bread from The Nook bakery . Will definitely be coming here every port trip .

A great place to grab a warm, iceless ice coffee and listen to complaints from the workers about the hot weather.

Visited grassroots recently during the heatwave! The employees were more than happy to make us some delicious iced caramel macchiatos. Hit the spot on a day like that, not to mention the inari pockets were amazing. Plenty of vegan options too!!

Tried there over night oats and they are delicious my favourite thing from there as well as there iced caramel macchiato is always made to perfection

Visited this morning at grassroots bright and early, the staff opened an hour early due to the heat last week and we caught them before our trip to tofino. We liked them so much that we decided to come back for a second visit on our way back through. Such a cool spot!

This is such place Is such a lovely Gem! I had their Inari pockets! And oh my goodness! I had never been more in love! The staff their is always so sweet! I can t drink caffeine and they had Drinks without caffeine! 10/10 recommend GrassRoots
