I really enjoy coming here for fish and chips . The owner works very hard and in my opinion does a fantastic job . The fish is always perfect with a nice light tempura type batter that is crispy and delicious and fries that seem to be crispy and good as well . All in all excellent place to go and chill out watch the scenery and enjoy some good fish and chips .
THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS ON THE ISLAND HANDS DOWN!!!!! seriously this place slaps!!! We got the 2 piece cod with fries and coleslaw each. And that cod wow, just wow. I will absolutely travel from Nanaimo now just to get food here. For 2, 2 piece meals was about 48$ inc tax. Which is pretty on par for fish and chips. Fries were fluffy like a cloud. Was the perfect amount. We left nice and full. Also came with a lemon wedge and super tasty tartar sauce. Absolutely 100% recommend stopping here you will not be disappointed!!!!!! That batter is something else keep up the great work!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the place I go when I need some comfort food. Good service, beautiful view and great service. The fish and chips are amazing!
Pleasantly surprised by the quality and portions. Crisp batter, not too greasy. Thick, well cooked fries. 6 piece cod and chips fed my family of 5!
Ordered a chips and 2pc Cod (came with coleslaw, tartar sauce and a slice of lemon) which was around $20, good value. It was probably the best fish and chips I've had since coming to Canada 6 years ago from Ireland. The chips are real potato which seems to be a rarity here for some strange reason. Would recommend.
Had to give it a try. Fish was tasty, fries had a flavour coating, not unpleasant. We ordered a 2 pc cod, and a one piece halibut. Including tax was $46.00 Not great for the money spent. Prefer other choices for fish & chips, dine in for simular, if not less $$
Delicious food! Ordered the 2pc cod and chips. The batter is light, crispy, and easy to bite into. We've lived in Port for 4 years and finally tried it today. We'll definitely be back!! Pic below is my half eaten meal... just had to come and leave a review. I came back to add another pic from Mar 3, 2024. This is a FULL plate of food, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and handcut fries. We also tried the poutine today, another absolutely delicious meal. Reasonable prices for the food you get!
We ordered the family meal for 4 and the servings were generous. We even had leftovers. The taste was excellent, probably as good as those in England.
Salmon was flakes and flavorful. Best ever!
Cant comment on food as he didnt even come to the window when I rang the bell. Was rude and didnt even f lift his head to speak to me outside and no eat in service!!
Excellent fish and chips and a beautiful location near the water with a great park to spread a blanket and eat.
Best fish and chips I ever had. Will definitely order again
Yesterday I ordered two orders of halibut and fries for supper. Usually the food here is excellent but the fries on both orders was overdone and not tasty at all.I should of known as I heard a woman complaining to the cook about their fries while I was waiting. I didn t check the food before heading home to eat or I would of refused them.
We used to live on the island but have been in Calgary for 9 years. When we come for a visit we are always looking for good fish and chips. We got 2 orders of 2pc halibut and 1 order of 2 pc cod. For 3 adults and 2 kids, we couldn t even finish it, the portions were very reasonable for the price. It satisfied our fish and chip cravings and we d definitely recommend to anyone passing through. Service was friendly, we love hanging out at the harbour quay with the kids. 10/10 Kid-friendliness: My picky kids ate up all their cod and chips. They loved it!
Great fish and chips
Nicest piece of battered cod with chips Ive tasted for a while. The fish was beautifully tender. Friendly and helpful server! Being closed Tuesday and Wednesday has often caused disappointment.
Very good and good price, the people who work there are also very nice
Ordered the Combo 2 with cods and prawns - both were very fresh and one of the best fish n chips in the area. Onion rings were great as well. Friendly staff and overall a very pleasant place. Dine-in area is small but most people takeout anyways :)
Best fish and chips Ive ever had! Parking: Lots of room for parking
Looking to order fish only and the pricing is absolutely outrageous, beyond ridiculous. 6 peices of cod for $81, Walked away without ordering a thing, will not be returning would choose 0 stars if it was an option.
Fish and chips ( halibut , my favorite )...so fresh and tasty....going back for sure
By far the best tasting fish and chips ever! You must visit Turtle Island Fish & Chips. We travelled from Northern Saskatchewan to Port Alberni lovely community but amazing fish and chips! Parking: Perfect location. Kid-friendliness: Kids park right there too. Wheelchair accessibility: Great.
Best fish and chips in town
Reminds me of Friar Johns Fish and Chips in adelaide center in 1994. Minus the newspaper wrapper. Completely awesome tasting food Halibut and Chips!!!!! Food
I ordered fish and chips last week, light batter crispy fish and home made fresh potatoes chips, Its the best I had ever
They skimp on fries and burgers are small. Food good but servings are tiny. Atleast they smiled when they ripped me off.
Amazing takeaway fish and chips. Very friendly service. Yummo!!
Wish they had indoor seating again
Honestly- the fish is so fresh and crispy- service is very friendly. We get a family combo at least once a week. A great treat!
Hands down one of the best fish and chips Ive had ever. Very friendly service as well. Who knew a sunny day by the water could be made even better!
New owner!! Best fish and chips at Port Alberni.
Big pieces of fish, crispy batter, fresh fish, homemade chips,my goodness, yummy so delicious .best fish and chips I had ever.owner is very friendly and helpful .definitely, I will be back soon.
I went to port alberni this week to visit my family. My brother ordered fish and chips for me. He said turtle island fish and chips is best fish and chips in town for over 20 years. I tried it and I can tell my brother didnt lye to me. I love the prawn and calamari rings, and deep-fried wonton is my favourite. hope I can dine in there with my family one day.
Had three piece cod and fries there last week. Terrible. Not ever going back. It was $41. Expensive lesson.
Best fish and chips in town. A little pricey but i guess its worth it.
Visited 2 times so far and each time was delicious. We are from Newfoundland and really miss our Atlantic cod. The Alaskan cod from here was delicious and satisfied our craving! Homecut fries and gravy were also exactly what I wanted. Tip: call ahead for your order!!
Must visit spot if your in Port Alberni. I was literally shocked when I opened the box and saw the size of the fish! (Peep the photo although I already started eating aha) Richmond fish and chips could never
Good fish
Best fish & chips ever had! Their fried shrimp is a must-try!
Best fries ever!
honest family business I was visiting from Ontario And I can tell they are very honest with the quality of food
Pricey
The cod was nt too bad but the oil they use for the chips is not changed often enough, the old oil leaves a dark colour and burnt taste on the chips. Location is great and it s a shame they can t cook good fish and chips they would make a killing if they could address this.
I love coming here and having their food! Delicious and a great price!
Super fresh and delicious fish and chips! Big portions - we all left full!
Fish was OK the fries had a burnt taste as they were using old oil for frying. You might want to try other places in town.
my favourite food and these are the very best I have had anywhere on Vancouver Island
This place is great under the new owners. They are always open. Fish and chips take a little long some times when busy but it is really good. Best fish in town for sure. Nice seating in the sun by the quay during the summer as well. Kid-friendliness: There is a playground right there.
Had halibut and chips, great fish and OK fries.
We are from Ontario and have travelled the world. This is my favourite place for fish & chips bar none!
Wow! Thank you you for a great meal again. Keep up the good work
I went to Port alberni harbor quaey last week.i tried to find a better place to have my meal. Turtle island fish and chips located in harbor quaey Port alberni . This is a great place to try fish and chips. Batter is crispy and cod is fresh and tasty, huge size homemade chips you couldnt eat all of them, lol. You can have your meal while enjoying the harbor quaey beautiful view .much cheaper than other.Best fish and chips I had ever. I will recommend it to anyone I know. Great place to try.
Very tasty fresh fish & nice fluffy crispy batter. Very hospitable owner! Fish is so good I would just skip the chips and have all fish! Mmm.
Fresh fish and fluffy crispy batter, love it ! Very hospitable owner and beautiful view too. Will definitely come back again.
The food and service are both really good, best fish and chips Ive ever had!
Very nice fish and chips and super friendly
Fast and friendly, great halibut
Im new in town so I asked around for delicious fish N chips. I like their cod fish better than Bare Bones because it tastes fresher. So far those are the only two places Ive been to in the area for seafood. The portion size is great. Nice atmosphere. Sit outside near the water and enjoy your lunch. I keep coming back.
Im really disappointed in the quality of the fish and it is so expensive for what you get...It use to be a place that I couldnt wait to go to but I understand now its under new ownership I do not recommend this place!!!!!
We ordered the standard fish and chips and calamari. The fish was nice but fairly expensive. The calamari cost just shy of $10 and was a pathetic portion (about 6 tiny quarter sized pieces of vary heavily battered calamari). This was my first take out meal I ve ordered in a few weeks and I am disappointed.
Best fish and chips ever....I keep coming back time and time again!! The 2pc cod is enough for two!!!
Love this place, nice sized pieces of halibut, very accommodating , put table and chairs out in the sun for us. Much appreciated. Will defiantly go back.
Been my favorite since I was a kid.
Had this on October 30th and both the staff were great and the fish and chips was outstanding. Cant wait to eat here again. Thanks.
We were very disappointed in our order of 7 cod dinners and one salmon dinner - the fries were luke warm and mushy the cod was undercooked and mushy - the oil in the deep fryer obviously was not hot enough - it was the end of the day and they had obviously turned off the deep fryers earlier and then took order our instead of telling us that it was too late. The grilled salmon was over cooked. Not likely to try again.
The best food in town. The poutine and fish were to die for. Cant wait to get back there.
Good foods to eat outside
The best in town
They have good quality fish, and its tasty. It could have been prepared a little better. The shop is very quaint and the staff are pleasant. There is a seating area outside and a very small place to sit and eat inside. The views of the water and waterfront outside are beautiful. It was calm and quiet when I visited. I would eat here again no question.
Delicious fish and chips.
Fast service, the fish and chips were delicious, not greasy
Good fish & chips
Very good, tasty ,authentic fish and chips Not greassy
Fish and chips mmmmmmmmm
Not sure how the food is because after waiting 25 minutes after we ordered and it still wasnt ready, we asked for a refund and left. Maybe if they had told us up front there would be a wait, or even apologized for the wait when we asked how much longer..
Food was fresh but indoor seating area smelled of oil too much. Outdoor seating is nice if not so windy.
Overpriced and the food was gross
Just okay. Greasy and less than friendly service. Ocean view is spectacular but there are better fish and chip choices.
Food was great and prepared very quickly. The lady was super nice and gave great gluten free options!
We had the one piece halibut , salad & fries , it was cooked to perfection and very light batter which I enjoyed very much!
Great food thanks Parker good job
Perhaps a good spot but dont bother going out of your way here as you may just waste your time like I did. Purposefully went out here twice, both times during the day apparently during their business hours, and twice they were closed. Seems they just open and close whenever they feel like, which is understandable, but should be noted so people dont waste their time (and money).
Ordered one piece halibut & chips and a two piece halibut & chips. $42. Halibut was soggy inside crispy coating so likely frozen when it was cooked. 3 chunks made up the 1 piece while 5 chunks made up the 2 piece. Was convenient for dipping but difficult to determine portion size. Home cut fries were plentiful but limp. Everything could ve used a little bit of seasoning. The tarter sauce was more like a salad dressing. Close to the Quay and washrooms.
Very good, a bit pricey
Good food . I had the 1pc halibut and chips for $14, it was well prepared. Nice location too
I got the fish n chips . It was good. The batter was not as puffy as the f and c restaurant by my home. Fish and overall flavor was good. Fries were ok.
Very good fish and chips.
Good
THE BEST fish n chips weve had in a LONG time. Speedy, friendly service. Next time were in town, were coming by!
Always great food - what could be better than fish and chips outside, on the ocean? Theres limited seating inside too, but Ive never tried it. Friendly staff - they take orders through a take-out style window, and deliver it to your table outside. Always very quickly too!
If youre looking for a really good and affordable place to eat fish, this is it. The tiny bistro offers 3-4 tables and take-away with a wide range of mainly deep-fried dished made from fish and seafood. I had the fish & chips with halibut which was really amazing and the best fish dish we had during our stay on Vancouver Island.
Got our order wrong, was very confrontational about the error and then complained about us loudly in the kitchen where we could hear them, which included racial slurs. On top of that the food was mediocre at best. Oh, and the hostess was sitting up front clipping her fingernails when we placed our order. Yum! And just for the record, everyone in our party were Canadian citizens
Great fish n chips
Good food, great service and affordable pricing.
Very good fish and chips, good price, nice staff, you CAN USE card to pay
Not impressed 9.40 for 10pieces of calamari. Im starving and wasted my money
Prayer: Dear Jesus, We hope and pray to you, Lord Jesus, that they are still fresh not frozen... :)
Excellent halibut. Bring cash, though - they dont take cards.
Being by the Harbor I was looking forward to clam chowder so much and I was the unlucky victim of What tasted like white gravy at best, I hope the poor woman just forgot the recipe this one day. She handed me my Five dollars back when I asked verify she tasted the chowder. When I get back to Idaho Ill order some.
We love to come to port Alberni and Turtle Island fish & chips was one of our favorite go to places, however this time we went we were rudely told they only take cash and prices were very high. It was terrible customer service, we sat inside and when I asked for some ketchup was rudely told I would have to get up and get it myself outside. Food was decent but price was too high and service was terrible!
Delicious deep fried everything
Best fish and chips Ive had in a while. Not covered in a thick layer of greasy batter.
Awsome place to eat
