Pretty decent sushi, I get a sehmi every time I go there.

Food and service was great, just couldnt give the ambiance a 5.

The Best halibut in town a must try if you like fish the sushi as good as anywhere. I compare it to Nori sushi in Nanaimo. Also the best on the island. Parking: Lots of parking Kid-friendliness: Lots of family go there

We ordered the food from the menu that waitress gave us, the lunch special price is $16.95. But end up we needed to pay for $23.95, the waitress said she made a mistake, she gave us the old menu. We paid $7 more for each box. We don t feel this is right, this is a scam. Pls be aware of price on the menu if you are there, good luck!

Got take out enroute to the ferry. Really delicious food - the sushi was fresh and tasty, and the halibut teriyaki was huge and delicious. I had never seen wild halibut on a Japanese menu before! The only thing was we ordered Avocado roll but the rolls also had cucumber in them which the kids don t like. If it s called Avocado roll, don t put cucumber in it. Overall highly recommended!

Some of the best sushi on the island, no joke. We stop here every time we go through Port, and its always been great. The building itself is a little drab, but dont let that scare you off the food!

Surprising very good Japanese food. Very fresh. I have Japanese food once every 2 weeks and try many different types. I would highly recommend the stop. Large portions.

If you have any allergies then don t eat here!! We have a anaphylactic sesame allergy and have requested no sesame seeds on our sushi. Not once but on three separate occasions we have discovered that our food was covered and I mean covered in sesame seeds! Blatant disrespect and putting us In danger. I cannot trust this restaurant anymore!

This place surprised me, and thats an understatement. I was not expecting much from a sushi place out of a motel building on an island. I consider myself a bit of a sashimi connoseiur and I must say the sashimi served here was extremely fresh. Ive eaten at all sorts of sushi places from all price ranges both here in Vancouver and many places in Japan. My favorite was Hamachi which was just a pure delight in my mouth. Id have to come back to the island again sometime and visit this place.

One of the best sushi spots on the island. My family travels to Port for this sushi.

The quality of their fish is absolutely phenomenal. Both times I ve went the service was extremely fast and friendly. I am still completely mind blown at the portion sizes and quality. This place is almost worth driving from Nanaimo for as nowhere comes close to the quality and service. I ve eaten at easily 100 different sushi places in my time and this place is easy top 3 of all time, dare I say the best. Keep it up and please, do not change a thing. The exterior is a bit of an eyesore but it almost makes the experience even better knowing it s a hidden gem. I d give more than 5 stars if I could. Wow.

This is our favourite restaurant! We eat here often because the food is always delicious, service is always fantastic, and the prices are great! Lindsey, who often serves is is a big part of why this restaurant is our favourite! She always provides amazing service and even goes as far as remembering our orders!

We thoroughly enjoyed our family party tray and dragon roll combos! Sehmi provided fesh food that tasted great and fed the whole family ( 4 adults and 4 kids) at an affordable price. We did take out so I cant speak much to the restaurant atmosphere, but staff was friendly and on time with our order. Thank you!

Bento box lunch was disappointing. The California roll was so so! Teriyaki chicken, lightly battered, not great. Tempura was okay! Salad, had chunks of coleslaw, that was bitter! Miso soup was good! The Sashimi, in my wifes lunch was good, sadly her lunch arrived quite a bit later than mine! We have had dinner here previously that was good. Update August 2023 We had the Combo dinner for two Dynamite box. Great value, big portions of fresh tasty Sushi!

I ve been coming here since I can remember with my family and friends. It s iconic to vancouver island, and many swear that it s the best sushi restaurant ever. I m inclined to agree! The service, food, and atmosphere is always phenomenal. I recommend the Sehmi Combo and chirashi, but everything is delicious!!!!!! There s nothing quite like the timberlodge. I ve probably tried most of their menu, and have never ever been disappointed in over a decade of coming here.

We love to his spot. This is a great option if you want to get out of the car on a long road trip and get a quality meal. Staff are very patient and went out of their way to make sure they hat we got a good price by recommending we switch to a combo instead of the random bits an pieces we tried to order. The sashimi bento was incredible to behold with a beautiful dragon role. But be warned, the miso udon portions are BIG. Take out is a great option too. We have called in for take out in the past and had a picnic in Cathedral Grove. Kid-friendliness: Staff was very sweet to our bratty boys who were a little stir crazy from being stuck in the car all day.

This is surprisingly some of the best sushi we ve ever had. Has become a ritual on our way to Tofino from now on!

Four of us had lunch there, food & service was great until my wife found a gel capsule in her food! There was a very fine mauve coloured power in it, dont know what it was? Very scary! The waitress said sorry and would show the kitchen staff. But nothing after that, didnt even try to explain, just asked if the bill was altogether! My son in law had to tell her to take my wifes meal off the bill, which she did. After that she treated badly! Was not handled well at all! The 4 of us will not go back. Terrible customer service. We wish we had taken the pill/capsule with us and straight to the health inspector!

My wife and I stopped here for supper while we were in Port Alberni. Food was really good and the value was unbeatable.

The 2-star is for customer service. The food itself is not good, probably the worst I have ever had. We ordered sushi and udon. The rice used in rolls and nigiri was too hard and I don t know how long they prepared it. I can easily find better sushi from a grocery store. The udon was weird since I have never seen someone putting rice noodles in the udon. It s more like korean way of making food and I absolutely didn t expect that.

Excellent customer service, great sushi! I ve been ordering here twice a week lately it s just so good. No complaints. They re super quick when you make an order. And the quality and quantity is incomparable with other places!

Best place for sushi and sashimi, had the platter for 2 and it blew my expectations outta the park, also took a friend for a first and she absolutely loved the food and the atmosphere

What a surprise this place is! The food was excellent, the portions are large for the price and the service was friendly and fast. Its our new go to sushi restaurant in Port Alberni.

Update: I go for sushi 1 maybe 2 times a month, sometimes it can get to 3-4 . Always receive great service from the wait staff, and always enjoy our food. I love the food, even through the transfer is f ownership. Know some people didnt enjoy the transition. We didnt realize we arrived a good bit before opening. They seared us despite being early. Waitress: both serving us were friendly and attentive, which was appreciated Food: I always enjoy the little sides, miso soup, ebi sunomono ( Im sorry for spelling ), tampura (prawn & veggie). And of course the main teriyaki chicken and sushi rolls (BC roll, delicious traditional to area smoked salmon) are always enjoyed. Something new, seaweed salad, I love the sauce but only eat a little as its something I enjoy but small portions. Cleanliness: its always clean when I go

The building of the restaurant makes you question the food. But never judge a book by its cover. The sushi was delicious and fresh. And the chicken karagge was so good I bought two orders. Overall fantastic experience and a great vibe.

This was by far the nastiest sushi I ve ever had. It was salty, questionable meat, tasted old and was so expensive for the quality and quantity. I don t know how everyone is saying that this is a 4-5 star restaurant. Trust me, this is not good sushi. Think I ll be taking a trip to the port alberni hospital that isn t open anymore. Guess I got to go to Nanaimo

This restaurant uses msg. If you are allergic like I am, remember to tell them to leave it off. I just bought two dinners, which go straight into the garbage.

Good portions, the bento box was decent. Rice of sushi was loosely packed, and the fried noodles were not fried and it was soupy. Confronted server about this and she told us thats just the way it is.

We stayed at the motel above this place, and were pleasantly surprised! Excellent sushi, rich in fish and made on the spot, but other dishes such as noodles are also very good. Right value for money, recommended!

Absolutely the best Sushi on Vancouver Island.... the lunchtime Sashimi is my absolute favourite ... if you drive by its your loss ... As good or better than anywhere in Vancouver I highly recommend this place

Good sushi, odd location and difficult to access. If you can find it and get inside the sushi is worth it however.

Very sanitary, very polite employees, and I know that one of the Chefs are the BOMB at making halibut ( fish n chips) as well as another chef really knows how to make them sushis, not sure if there still is a chef there that is mediocre at the fish deal.

Have eaten here about a dozen times now, and am happy every time. The only thing I dont like is the music thats forced upon the patrons, but the food is great, service good, and portions excellent. Prices have gone up since my review, but the food is still good.

Amazing food! The restaurant is located in the Timberlodge Inn. It may look skeptical on the exterior but food, service and in the interior is a 10/10. We had the tempura, sushi and sashimi for 2 and all of it was excellent. The quality of fish was fresh, probably one of the best I ve had.

I really enjoyed my combo Bento Box with a salmon roll and tempura prawns. Others in my party were split on opinions, 1st was good for mixed tempura and chicken karaage, but other was disappointed with lack of gluten free options.

They have great sushi, FRESH AND FAST buuutttt theyre always closed for lunch at 2:15 to 3:30 which is when I usually want to go eat there!

Extremely fresh fish and very delicious sushi We ve ordered a big set with regular and tempura rolls, sushi and sashimi for 45 $ and it s suit for 3-4 person (depends of your appetite ). Also we ve ordered some extra sashimi, because fish was very fresh and delicious

Wow I dont know how others have rated it as 4 or 5 stars! -The bento box had tiny portions of chicken and rice. -On Top of that the sushi was terrible! I couldnt believe I was paying for this! -I would NOT recommend.

All that I can say is W.O.W.! I organized my munchkins boardgame club to come and stay at the above motel for a night of gaming. When we went to dine at Sehmi were were amazed. They were so welcoming. They even had hand sanitizer at the door :). The sushi was def top 1 in port alberni, top 3 in alberni valley, top 10 in South Island and top 20 in BC! Will return ASAP.

I am Japanese.This is my first trip to Port alberni.The only menu Ive had is ranch combo, but the restaurant here is very good.I recommend it to you.

We were staying at the rv park attached to the restaurant and decided to take out some sushi for dinner. They have a very comprehensive covid protocol and we felt no apprehension ordering. We got a Hali Roll, an 8 piece Marine Roll, and 2 Inari for $20, and they were delicious. Nice tight rolls, interesting flavours, not over sauced, on par with anything we have had in Vancouver.

We got take-out as we were staying in the RV Park next to the restaurant. They had good sanitizing protocols, and the woman who greeted us at the door and took our order had a mask. I didnt see in the restaurant. The rolls were good and tightly rolled so they didnt fall apart when being picked up. It was a good value, and Im going to guess consistent quality given the number of other people who were also getting take-out.

Always wonderful sushi ...and staff following all the covid guidelines. Efficient , friendly service.

Great food, great staff

Looks as good as it tastes. We have never been disappointed when ordering sushi from Sehmi. One exception to this, their dynamite roll is cut too thin and falls apart! But even that tastes good ... We ordered food for pick up last night and felt Covid safe with their pickup protocol.
