Dissapointed with the food and the price. A small portion of tarter sauce was an extra $2.00 as we were a group of eight I found this to be way over priced. Myself or our group will not be returning to this establishment.

Calimarie was rubber and hard, only 2 half ribs with chicken and ribs and chicken was dry. Shrimp was the only thing good. Not a good experience and waitress stressed for a tip!

The chef came out and chatted with us. Very friendly and helpful guy. The food was better than average and the beer that I had was delicious so I had another ( the house lager). The chef mentioned that there were a small pod of Orcas that put on a show er close to the restaurant. That would have been the icing on the cake to view

Nice place. There is a patio, but we stayed inside enjoying the AC. Parking: The closer parking is free for 2-3 hrs depending. Its was quite busy and we had to drive two rounds to find a spot. There is a parking lot a block away that is free all day, that we learned about afterwards.

Our first time at this restaurant and we were super disappointed. Most expensive fries ever !! We ordered Halibut and fries .. the Halibut $25 one piece was so small (4 small bites) fries not included .. cost extra covered 3/4 of the plate. Cost us over $60.00.. I will not go back and would not recommend this restaurant.

The view is beautiful, the service too, but the quality/price is not worth it, it is too expensive, $36 dollars for that dish

I ordered a salmon burger, salad nor fries not included, so I had to pay extra, it was super lame, absolutely no flavour. Overpriced $10 for tiny salad. Overrated place. I won t come back and don t recommend!

Stopped here for lunch on the way to Uculet. Superb lunch. Their soups and salads are great. Patio seating overlooking the harbour. Definitely worth a detour off the highway.

Its hard to believe that you order a special & it does not come with anything but a hot dog bun with pulled pork,1800 add 725 for fries 300 for gravy, 325 for coffee, always ask what comes with your meal.... you may order a hamburger & just get a meat paddy

We went pre-Covid when we were in town and it was great so when in town last week we went back again. Only reason I am giving two stars is because staff was nice. Food was overpriced and had to pay $5 extra for side of fries and $4 for a pop that wasn t refillable. Bathroom was gross and dirty, place needs major repairs and stunk like rotten fish. I almost walked out when we walked in and wish we did. Food was horrible and the tuna I got on my salad was fishy smelling, not a good cut and inedible. Nothing about it was good, which is too bad because we really enjoyed it previously. Normally we go to one of the breweries and will be going back to them next time.

Mehhhh. Driest crunchiest beef dip ever and very skimpy. 100% will not order again. Definitely not worth what I paid.

I love this place. Its the only eatery on the water in Port Alberni. A lovely place. The prices are super good and the food outstanding. But....the best part of all are the people! The staff goes out of your way to make you welcome and happy! I love it here.

Salmon chowder was good, but came out barely warm. Service was very poor. Waited over 15 mins just to get a server take out order, after I asked for our server. Then waited forever for food and then had barely warm chowder, although tasty.

What a wonderful experience we had here on Mothers Day. The brunch buffet was outstanding, with great food options from eggs benny, smoked and baked salmon, smoked mackerel, shrimp, rice, ham, bacon the best potatoes ever and desserts to die for. Im putting this restaurant on my favorites list.

Such great service with Scott! He was attentive and a great amount of friendly and helpful throughout our meal. Our food was hot and was very flavourful. We will be back!

Looking at the reviews I thought would be better, but food was bad, staff was nice tho.

I checked out the reviews and stopped at this restaurant with my friends. We ordered 3 veggie burgers and one chicken burger . The veggie patties have absolutely no taste. They should take these items off their menu. We also ordered beers and they were not cold. Worst experience ever. Would not recommend going there at all. Vegetarian options: Not good at all

We are 4 ladies on a day out, with Lady Rose Marine, on the Frances Barkley. After our trip, my Daughter suggested we stop at the Starboard Grill. Im so pleased we did. Our server was exceptional. The menu is very varied, suited everyones tastes. The size of each dish was generous, I had to bring some home.

My favorite place to go when Im in Port Alberni. Never had a bad meal there. The owner (chef) came and spoke to us and the waiter was great. They made our visit special. I highly recommend taking the time to go there for an incredible experience.

What a beautiful location and view, but this restaurant really needs a menu upgrade and better quality ingredients. Servers are friendly and helpful but the coffee is not good and the food has been disappointing every time Ive been. IMHO this place appears only to be open still because of its excellent location and views, and because our community has very few lunch options. Sorry to have to write this. I want to like it there but just cant.

A colleague and I held a dinner event here to market our business and everything was 5 star from the food to the atmosphere to the staff. A definite must try if youre in Port Alberni.

Food was tasty but the brunette waitress was a Tuesday, so rude. Tip * fire your waitresses * people may enjoy eating here.

Pleasantly surprised! At the end of the pier in the harbor you expect to pay dearly to have something to eat. But surprising. Delicious food at a fair price with a nice beer and cider. Also a very child-friendly restaurant with a childrens menu. Great to be able to visit the starboard grill with a family of 5.

This was my first time here, I would gladly return again if in the area. Kelly and Kenya were who seated and took my order and even with the place packed on new years eve they were full smiles and genuine hospitality. I had the appetizers of calamari and the coconut onion rings. Good squid be good. None of that deep fried eraser feeling. Served with some onions and peppers for both color and flavor. The onion rings were fryer hot and fresh, a light golden fry that tells me the oil is also clean and new. The flavor and crunch confirms it. At this point I had forgotten I ordered an entree and worried I might not be able to finish it. Entree joined the Clean Plate Club. The butter chicken hot pot was absolutely fantastic. The coconut basmati rice was cooked perfectly and half an hour afterwards I still feel warm from the spice. I peered into their kitchen and just from the breif view I saw how clean it was. Ive been a supervisor in both a kitchen and a bakery, if I am ever in the area, I am ordering again. 10/10

Popped by here with no notice with the in-laws. They were able to seat 4 adults one child without issue. I went for the meal and soup of the day (A Christmas poutine and some sort of soup). I wish I had listened to the waiter regarding size, my dent in it was embarrassing. Thought the food was good, staff was friendly, fantastic view. Kid-friendliness: There was a kid in our party, and we still got a table. Wheelchair accessibility: If memory serves right it is a level entry place with no stairs.

The house Ceasars are next level and they are one of the very few places that use actual turkey (not that lunch meat style loaf places try to pawn off) on their fresh a tasty clubhouse sandwiches. Especially great in the summer for when you want to eat and see the inlet.

This was my first but not the last time here. Everyone in our group loved their food. It is not very often you get poutine and near the end all you have left is toppings and gravy. The serving staff as very friendly and attentive. Would recommend this place to friends.

We heard about this place from a segment on Chek News, the Upside Guys. Candied salmon chowder was one of the foods featured. It was delicious! Velvety smooth with a generous amount of salmon! My partner had a clubhouse wrap with real turkey brest not turkey roll. I had the taco salad and it was huge! So huge, that I had the rest for dinner! The patio was open due to this early summer weather and you cant beat the view as its right on the ocean. The staff were very friendly as well as attentive. If youre in Port Albernie, I highly recommend it! Well be back! Parking: As the restaurant is right on the quay, parking is somewhat limited.

With a live band playing dockside this was a fun time. Food was so delicious, try the coconut onion rings AMAZING great cross section of food we sampled, a wrap and soup of the day, a quesadilla which was stuffed with goodness (not the flat tasteless fare you get at chain restaurants), crispy chicken bowl, beef dip. The drinks are very low priced. I had a local Dog Mountain Brewery Bees a gold medal winning Belgian Pale Ale with caramelized honey I can see why it was voted Canada s best.

The summer plate sounds much better on the menu and cost $19 for a pretty sad portion. The stuffed pepperoncinis were particularly nasty. My friends food was alright in some cases but otherwise pretty mediocre. Staff was lovely and friendly and menu seemed appetizing, but food disappointed:(

by far the best restaurant in port alberni. we went for dinner one night last week. the vegan burger was the best i have ever eaten anywhere. everything we ordered was perfection. nice portions. in fact so good we both went back the very next day for dinner again.service was great. view was great. my friend, who is from vancouver says it compares to high end restaurants near the water in vancouver. in fact the next day, she went again to the starboard grill and there was also entertainment. yes, she went 3 days in a row. as i am writing this i am thinking i can hardly wait to go there again.

We had a birthday dinner and five out of six of us had the same dish. Five women loved it! It is unusual we would all say the same thing that it was absolutely delicious. The dish was the Pecan Pesto Chicken and Prawn Bowl! The sauce was amazing.

It s the best veggie burger I ve had in the past year. My boyfriend had a ringer burger, which is also very flavourful and saucy. As someone who doesn t like mint, the cucumber mint spritzer literally blew my mind! The servers are all very nice, the atmosphere of the restaurant was peaceful and chill. The napkins smelled really fresh, which I believe is very important when it comes to the hygiene of a restaurant. I wish I could give 6 stars Highly recommended.

Washrooms are disguising. No lock on the door. We had a group of 6 people. It took over 45 minutes for the food to arrive. Two tables walked out while we waited. My food arrived and there was a hair on the plate. I told the server and she said she couldn t see it and made a face. We waited so long for the food to arrive and had a ferry to catch that I had to eat the dish. I was completely turned off it since it had a hair on the plate and only ate half. Went to pay and asked was I going to get any discount and the server made a face and said I couldn t see any hair . She took $2 off the order. Terrible service, huge waiting times and disappointing food. Would not recommend.

We three and baby had a lovely meal here tonight, the food was so dang good and the service was very friendly and prompt we got a seat at the window near the water and the views were great. Definitely coming back!

Just happened in here while visiting from Idaho. We all liked what we had. The salmon chowder was rich and filling. The chicken hot pot was absolutely delicious. My father-in-law was impressed with how filling his chicken noodle soup was. My son even liked his Dock Boy sandwich. Highly recommended. The place was a bit lonely, but the staff was very friendly and empathic, they recommended the salmon chowder, I was a little skeptical but the truth is that it was delicious! The ribs were average and also the fish and potatoes, it has a nice view, there are plenty of place to park your car.

Delicious! I ordered the special 1/2 Ukrainian feast which came with 3 perogies, onions, bacon, sausage, and a traditional style cabbage roll. It was super tasty. My boyfriend got two ling cod pieces with fries. And as I couldn t help but taste his meal, I can confirm it was also really tasty.

Had a great time on their patio on a sunny afternoon! Service was fast and friendly, we had a perfect view of the water, and the food was delicious. I got the prawns and coconut onion rings (which came with a delicious curry dip). Husband got the soft taco wrap and he was surprised by how filling it was. Everything was delicious. Have been before, and will definitely be back.

I ordered Chicken and Prawn Ramen Bowl and it was so good. If I visit Port Alberni again, I would dine in at the same restaurant without a second thought. Ive never been so impressed by the services offered by the restaurant. Very pleasing and friendly staff, had an extremely good meal worth the price. Thank you! Best poutine Ive had! I got the bacon cheeseburger poutine and it blew my mind. They have other types of specialty poutine and a lot of other great meal options! There is glass out on the patio so you can enjoy the meal and views and be protected from the wind. We were there on a very windy day and it was gorgeous and comfortable. Compliments to the mad scientist chef for his brilliant poutine creations!!!

In terms of atmosphere and service Starboard is excellent. The waitresses are attentive, quick and friendly. Nice waterfront view and clean dining area. In terms of food I ordered the chicken hotpot. Wish I ordered something else. Although it didnt taste bad it wasnt very impressive or flavorful or spicy. Maybe their specialities are their burgers? Perhaps I can give it another try.

the formale owner is rude and mostly in a bad mood. She is unfriendly to visitors of the clocktower. the kitchen is dirty and messy. at a concert at the harbor, she parked her car in the middle of the audience and was cheeky with the audience, even though parking spaces were free elsewhere. outrageous!

Bad pub food, everything fried- unhealthy! Kitchen is a mess everywhere fat an dirt. Employes should sometimes change their dirty clothes. Female owner unfriendly and in a bad mood. Never ever!

You could taste the fresh halibut in the fish and chips!! Absolutely amazing!

Youre paying for the view... We came here recently, I had halibut and casear salad with a pint, and partner had the seafood hot pot. Halibut was good. No questionable bits in it and batter was nice. Average coleslaw. Caesar salad was decent. The hot pot was good to great. I felt like the food was decent, but the view, which is gorgeous to be sure, factors into the prices.

Place to recommend at Port Alberni! An excellent stop after Cathedral Grove and on your way to Tofino / Ucluelet. This place has a nice outdoor seating area with such a great view. The food is really good, fresh, and at a very good price. Try the white wine as well! I would really recommend this one

We had the special Halibut Fish and chips. I thought mine tasted off, my guys a fisherman so I looked at him and he nodded telling me later it was old fish ! I didn t get any fries just the onion rings I ordered s an extra. Most would be upset but I m not big fry eater so I was okay with that. The cold slaw that came with was about 2 Tablespoon s worth ( it came in the little silver condiment dish the serve sour cream and ketchup in! Sorry forgot to take a picture! The bonus was it was 27 Oct 8 so we sat on the deck, sooo nice!

I had the tuna burger and the coconut onion rings and this was the best meal I have had in a restaurant since moving to Vancouver Island. Server was polite and friendly, which just made the experience even better. Wish I had called ahead so we could sit outside.

I could tell from how fast the food appeared that it wasn t just prepared. Condiments were watered down and lacking in taste

Heard such good things about this place , but was disappointed in the food and pricing a halibut burger with no side is over $16.00 add fries another $3.50 our server never explained the add ons to us, plates were super hot she never told us that either almost burnt our fingers. The food was cold , server was slow , not very friendly. Beautiful view of the ocean thought. I recommend grabbing some take out food and sit at the picnic tables and enjoy the view.

The food was good; however, it took about an hour for the food to come. The service was also disappointing especially considering the price of the food was on the higher end. It s terribly disappointing that even though the food was a good portion and was very tasty, the bad service ensure us that we were not going to come back. The blonde young server didn t clean our table beforehand and just toss our menu on the dirty table. It took a long time for her to serve us and by the time she did, she was inconsiderate and rude. But we were serve later by a brunette waitress and she was very nice and was a lot more accommodating. The bathrooms are also not well maintained. It smells and the garbage was overflowing. The bathroom stall also didn t have a lock. On top of that, the bathroom sink ran scolding hot water.

The food and service was super! I had halibut burger and wine. Highly recommended

Fabulous service and wonderful food. Acoustics inside the restaurant, though, are terrible. Its a large, echo-y room and is almost impossible to have a conversation unless youre shouting at your tablemates. The patio, though, is great. Hopefully management will do something about the noisy indoor dining room!

1st time there...must say my entre was delicious ...atmosphere was charming . Cant wait to go back !

Nice restaurant by the lake. Good food and beverage. Ashley was absolutely great and helpful to choose my meal and beverage and at the end she brought 2 chocolate instead of 1.

Food was excellent and will definitely be back. Great menu with lots to choose from. I tried the Pecan Pesto Chicken and Prawn Bowl and wasnt disappointed.

My second time here. Ive had the same dish 2x as I love it . Service is great and friendly group. View is awesome

Staff were great and the cod fish and chips were great! Has a great view of the harbour.

A little bit pricy as you have to pay extra for any sides, but the food was incredible so it was well worth it. The waitress was very nice and friendly, and the location and view was beautiful.

Beautiful spot by the water to break a journey. Great patio, tasty food, thoughtful service (they brought out a taster of the chowder when they saw we were nervous about how sweet it might be it was delicious!).

I wasnt overly impressed. It was busy, but not that busy and they had at least 4 floor staff. Took 20 minutes to place and order and we were there almost an hour before we got our food-very simple burger. Food was okay, but for the price, I expected to at least get a side dish. Others were also waiting a long time for their food and then there was a line up to pay. Even if there was a problem in the kitchen (again simple menu, so cant see it), there was no reason for wait staff to not let us know or check on us. Many of the staff were not wearing masks.

Wow, The food was amazing. From an unassuming place with a great view. My Wife and I went for the Halibut sandwich. I was expecting a deep fried battered fish and was wowed with the grilled marinated halibut on the fresh bun. I had the fries and my wife had the beet salad. The salad was so fresh and light. I had started with the candied fish chowder. It was subtle sweet and very flavorful. The staff was very friendly and helpful when suggesting a meal. You cant go wrong.

Wandered down to the pier for lunch with my aunt, beautiful spot on the water, food was excellent! Staff was friendly even during a packed lunch rush!!
