My family loves this bakery! They have the best customer service and the most delicious cakes. When we had a mix up (our fault) with a birthday cake, Josie made sure we had the custom made cake we ordered on time. Thank you Europe Bakery!

Its a Poco staple! The best of everything, great prices, and friendly. I cant rate it highly enough. Their cheesecake is next level.

Have been there many times over the years went in Port Coquitlam but this is the first time that the donuts seemed they were pre-made. The underside seemed soggy as if they were pre cooked and stored.

Lots of selection first thing in the morning. The young lady with piercings that helped us was so warm and kind, and made my kiddo an excellent sandwich. Great customer service. Stocked up on panini buns and donuts. Nice old school spot.

We have a client who works here and has brought us donuts when we were working on his car. These donuts are the best I have ever had. Everyone at the shop is obsessed with them, especially the apple fritters. 100% you need to try them! Thanks Carlos for the treats, we appreciate it!

I have lived in Poco for close to 20 years and Europe Bakery has always been my go to for donuts, bread, buns and sweet treats. Their product is superb, prices cant be beat, and the staff are always friendly, polite and helpful. Go there any day of the week and you will see how popular it is. I would like to commend the new ownership for keeping their products same affordable price and for ensuring that popular favorite items are always avaialble. They have added new items like ciabbata bread, caramel seasalt donuts, and the ever popular Homer donut. These new additions are DELICIOUS and a great compliment to their already stand out baked goods. I hope Europe Bakery is around for another 20 years - its a PoCo Institution!

Went in for a birthday cake and there was nothing. One heart shape cake 6 days after Valentines Day...

Today, I got the Marble Cake and it was very delicious. Friendly staff and great service!

Great shop for Cakes and Snacks

I had my daughters custom birthday cake made here, and they did a fabulous job. I gave them just a picture of what I wanted, and they executed it wonderfully. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and I could tell they really took pride in paying attention to the detaild and making the cake to my satisfaction The cake was great to look at and tasted even better. I will definitely go here again when I look to purchase another cake.

Fairly disappointed with what has happened to a Poco staple since the new owners. Price increases, lack of labeling to show ingredients, and now the flour they use has soy in it. So much for clean eating. Edit in response to the reply: Your front end staff told us directly everything has soy in it. These kind of clarifications are really important.

We only go to about once a month on average, but when we do, our first stop is Europe Bakery & Deli. Their breads, and pastries are great. Especially the rye bread and the Vanilla slice which is properly made with generous amounts of delicious custard filling. Scrumptious. Thanks for great service and delicious baked goods everyone.

The service I received was decent however while waiting around I was disappointed to see how short and unpleasant the staff were with some of the other customers who included a father and daughter, an elderly gentleman, BC Sheriff and a seemingly regular customer. I saw a lot of eye rolling and heard a lot of sighing from the staff. Perhaps this is the norm for this place as it appears to have a consistent customer base.

Its my go to bakery for its delicious goods, friendly staff, and amazing prices! My favourite items are the donuts, tiramisu cake, cream horn, and the eclair...Actually everything are all so good but I always go back to these items. Also, they are really big portions and we always share and get to taste bits of everything!

Great Custom Gluten-Free Cakes

If you have a sweet tooth this is not the place for you LoL. To many treats to chose from. Cookings tarts cakes all sorts of fresh baking. Their breads are very good. Service always with a smile but sometimes it gets very busy and you might have to wait. Everything is freshly backed and just like Granny use to make. Dont miss out on this lilttle gem right on Shaunessy downtown

I am so sad. I ve been to this place my entire life. I read the Google reviews and they weren t the best, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I ve gone 3 separate times now. The first two times were definitely worse than their old standard, but still acceptable. Today I bought smiley face cookies and jelly donuts. The donuts were great! The smiley face cookies . Awful. The flavour was fine but they were stale and hard. I ve grown up with smiley face cookies by the box load and I know how they can get when they re not fresh. They re hard and crumbly when old and soft when fresh. These cookies were hard, crumbly, and dry. I feel like this place has become really hit or miss when before it was consistently good.

Been coming here my whole life but sad to see the price of everything going up significantly since new ownership, and the same cake we ve gotten for years is smaller and $10 more expensive. Still great quality just sad to see the change!

Their doughnuts are incredible. Especially the long Johns but you definitely need to get there early before theyre all gone

The Best bakery in Tri City and reasonable prices.

I ve had the opportunity to try the donuts here and thoroughly enjoyed them. I don t think we ve ever had a negative experience. More recently had a chance or order custom cookies as well which seemed to be a hit. Not only were they super delicious and fresh, the bakery did a wonderful job on them. Can t wait to be back!

Went in to pick up some pre-ordered items, was a lineup but the staff were extremely helpful and courteous with everyone. Watching the staff do what they were doing, I had no issues waiting a few minutes for my order.

I ordered a Homemade Tiramisu cake for a party of 50 people. The staff at Europe Bakery and Deli were very accommodating and the cake was reasonably priced. The huge cake was perfect size and tasted divine. My guests raved about the cake. It was so fresh and flavourful. I would recommend this bakery for amazing desserts.

I come here for the natas. So good and reasonably priced. They also have cindys (cindies?), which I have been looking for! Service is good and staff are very friendly as well. A great PoCo institution!

Since the change of ownership this place has gone downhill. Every time Ive gone in lately, Ive bought buns and theyve been stale.

This European bakery has been here for years and they recently changed ownership but still have have great baked goods! Their doughnuts are made fresh daily. They have good doughnuts and other baked sweets as well a breads and deli meats. A note that they typically run out of doughnuts and their better baked goods closer to the end of the day so best to visit closer to the beginning of the day. I got their loaf of bread a couple times and found that it was a bit crumbly and fell apart easily. I found the slices a little thin as well. Wish they were thicker slices or had unsliced loafs.

low quality bakery, some of the items they sold us were not fresh and you could easily tell many of them were done from frozen. The most ridiculous part is asking top at the end for simply putting baked items in the box. I had hopes for this bakery but I don t think I ever come back. I guess pricing is what makes this bakery alive tho.

Went there last week for the first time. And im going back today!

The products are good. But I give one star for the idea of giving tips in the store. This is humiliating for both buyers and sellers.

Best long johns around but you better get in early. The gem that they make is the iconic bunwich fresh Portuguese bun, assorted meat, lettuce, tomato, cheese, mayo, mustard and S&P.The beauty in it is the packaging; it comes in a built in plate served with a napkin!! Its perfect!! Everything else is amazing too and they have a great variety of deli meat you WILL NOT find anywhere else. POCO staple. Get to know it.

I have been going to this bakery over the past 6 years. It use to have line-ups out the doors at all times and there selection was incredible! Today, walked in and 1 other person inside at 12:30? I then did my usual browse of the products and it looks like everything that used to be offered was cut down by half of the selection. The person who took care of me never smiled and seemed like it was a chore to get the items I requested. (No eye contact) Once everything was put together and they charged me I then discover they miss 2 items I asked for. When I made a comment there was no apology and one of the ladies says Oh and we can add those two things now if you want Wait a second and how could you have missed this when I originally ordered it and there was no one in the bakery. They were the slowest I have seen in 6 years! I think the community is putting it together and this bakery has lost is quality and customers service 100%. Also I am not even going to go into the price hike......everything is almost double the price. There are better options out there and I will be taking my business elsewhere. Another historic quality place gone due to cuts in quality and service but lets double our prices......No line ups says it all and people have figured it out.

This hidden jem is wonderful. Hungery now, order a fresh made, piled high sandwich. Need treats for later? Their baked goods, pies, and cakes are fantastic. Planning food for the week? They have great prices on sliced meats, cheese, and breads. Love it here!

How disappointing to see the new owners change the recipe on the Portuguese tarts, now the custard is not even custard, it s some concussion of corn syrup and flour, what a shame! You do not touch the recipe on your #1 product, idiots!

I was in the middle of a transaction when the owner took my server to go yell at her in the back about her previous transaction. You could hear her shouting all the way to the front of the store. Some of the bread in the bins is frozen from yesterday but still fresh- but the poor worker got scolded for telling the previous customer the truth that the bread in the bin was not made that day. Two stars only because the servers are always so friendly.

These guys have the best donuts I ve ever had in my life. And a friend of mine showed me this bakery during the car show. The Portuguese buns are killer and I really love the eclairs there too. If you re in the area stop in and give it a shot it s really good.

Not what expected by a real Portuguese Bakery. I do honest reviews..... you deserve 1/2 star....cheap bread at high price.

Pizza roll was not bad but surprisingly spicy. Custard éclair was dry and too sweet, disappointed to see the filling also having whipped cream, thats not proper of an éclair. I might check them out again in the future and update the review, I couldve just struck out with my selections. Paid cash to avoid the dreaded and awkward tips prompt, sick of every company begging for extra money now and guilt tripping you.

I ve enjoyed Europe s Bakery & Deli for the last 17 years i been in Canada. Definitely since Maria sold the business, lot of things have changed. The few grocer Portuguese products She had have slowly disappeared, like Sardines in can, canned beans, olives, sauces etc Now they continue to have beautiful Portuguese style baked breads that i m happy they still have. Suggested

They seem to changed the cream used on the frosted cinnamon rolls. It taste awful. Will probably still buy deli from here but not pastries at least for now.

My absolutely favourite bakery in the Tricities. Wonderful food, great prices, and the most amazing staff. My autistic daughter loves their chocolate spider cake and they always go out of their way to make her visit to the bakery special. We love everything about this place and will always choose them over every other bakery.

I cant say much about the deli as Ive never bought anything from there, but the donuts are UNBELIEVABLE! We regularly come from Burnaby for the long johns, which are the best weve tried locally. The twists, apple fritter and other donuts are very good as well... All for a very good price.The staff is also friendly and always have a smile on their face - a family business that we will always be back to. Keep up the great work! Get a long John - you wont be dissapointed!

Gingerbread men were rock hard and just tasted like molasses and their bread was dry and tasteless.

Love this bakery, been coming here since I couldnt see over the display cases. I love their long johns, and their cheese-sticks are to die for. Also love their bread, high quality whole wheat and grain breads for very affordable prices, and Maria and the staff are always pleasant as well. Their sandwiches are also amazing, used to love them after soccer games

Ill begin with, SIMPLY THE BEST POCO HAS TO OFFER. The staff is wonderful, theyre well organized and .... who am I kidding, stop reading this and go in already before they sell out. They have a few items such as the chocolate eclair donuts which sell out within an hour of opening, their sandwiches are exceptional. The customer service is above and beyond. I never heard if this place until a couple months back, now I go in weekly. A lot of loyal customers at this shop, you will be as well, once you try their treats out.

They have the BEST Danish that can be had in the GVRD. You wont find any place that is even close. Prices are reasonable.

First time visit but wont be my last. Amazing selection of baked goods from sweets to breads. They also make sandwiches and paninis with a wide selection of breads, meats and cheeses. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are super friendly. Oh yeah, the food tasted amazing.

Update in 2022. Awesome family run bakery and deli thats been around since I was a kid. My mom and aunt even worked there for a short stint! Long John donuts are to die for but get them before the afternoon as they always sell out. Their home made style sandwiches are awesome too - try a the paninis! Forget about Subway. Take a number when you walk in as its usually busy in there but a short wait as they have lots of friendly staff.

Donuts are good value but sell out quickly. Closed Sundays and Mondays brutal. Show up at 1130am and your lucky if they have any chocolate long johns left. Would consider a 4 star rating id the staff werent so rude. Would suggest they consider stepping up their customer service game and perhaps make more of their popular donuts which sell out daily.

Lots of good looking food

New owners. Lots of price increases, many of the things you could get previously are gone and rumours of many more changes to come. That was the fear when we heard it was sold, looks like those fears came true. Shame because it has been a great local spot for years.

This one of two tri-city bakeries that I favor for pastries, cookies, cakes, a simple glaze doughnut. But here there s the added bonus of getting a mmmm good deli sandwitch. I find it even more difficult to walk out of here empty handed with a grand selection of things to satisfy the delights of the old style bakery I grew up with in the center of town. I understand that the originators of this PoCo landmark, has decided to hang up their approns and pass the torch on. There are some things that make this place great; the quality, the supply, the variety and the prices. Hopefully none of these elements will change much, because it would be a shame to lose such a cornerstone in our community. Nevertheless, as change is always difficult to adapt to, we wish our best to Victor and Maria Luis, and their son, Victor Jr.

New owners are horrible, and will not take a pre-order over the phone.. Which the previous owners had absolutely no issue with.. Pretty ridiculous customer service, especially when a long-time repeat customer driving out from Surrey is just asking for some donuts to be held aside for a few hours.. Thanks for NOTHING!!

I ordered our lovely chocolate pecan wedge, but cashier put me sausage. I came back home and saw it. In the bakery they don t want change sausage on pecan wedge! We regular customers, but after this may be no(((

Watch out !! Calculate ,calculate and calculate !! First time I was given less items that I paid for ,second time I got charged almost $4 more ,when I recalculated I got my money back but there s no apologies .

Ordered same day the 9x9 Tiramisu cake for my wifes birthday. My family is Italian so I was expecting harsh criticism from my mom....she really like the cake. Thats says enough right there.

Im giving this 1 star as one of the ladies serving was so bitter. It wasnt busy, and I was ready to order. Took a photo to send to my friend in the car, to see what he wanted, and the lady behind the counter shouted saying no photos or leave?? I was only taking a single photo of the food only, and made sure no one was in it, or waiting for me. Not a good experience, even if the pastries looked good, and heard they have some tasty things. But bitter staff lead a bitter taste in my mouth and I left without saying anything or purchasing. Attaching the photo I took, as other reviewers seemed to be able to take pictures as well.

My husband bought me a Napoleon today and I just ate it - it tasted like old cardboard. They should be ashamed of themselves charging full price for something that was at least 2 days old - and if it wasnt, then it was just gross! If you are going to sell old products, you must discount them! Will not go back.... so sad

This is a great place to get all your deli & bakery needs. They feature a wide selection of meats (sausages to ham), cheese (even dill havarti), basic breads and sweet tooth fix. Donuts are soft to the bite, deli items are fresh and breads range from chewy to crispy. Those who remark about the slow service must realize that the place has a growing clientele but a shortage of staff. They are hiring but many factors are behind the shortage of staff (i.e. relief funds, integration issues etc) My take is just to be patient coz the team has been doing their best to get orders right, the quality of goods at par and the place clean Keep it up guys!

Busy little bakery, so staff seemed a bit frazzled. But if you enjoy a citrus flavored glaze, donuts are good!

Update: new owners, but hard to tell, it feels like everything is the same Europa we know and love :) And busy busy as always! Im here most Saturday mornings for the weekend donut pick up... raspberry and lemon filled, apple fritters and the stars of the show: the maple and chocolate long johns. I also like their cheese sticks and jalapeno cheese buns. What I wish they would improve: using real whipped cream, house-made filling and more apple in their fritters. The base donuts are already so good, just kicking up the filling a notch would put them over the top. What they should never change: the staff - they are so great.

We went there on a saturday around lunch time and it was super busy, but the lady who helped me was friendly and patient. The egg tarts were amazing! The cream horn is a must try too.

Service is still the same, friendly staff but I did notice that there seems to be less meat and cheeses to choose from. I bought a pepperoni stick and it wasnt very good, very greasy tasting and definitely didnt look or taste the same as before. I really hope all my baked goods are still good.

I was very impressed

I ve always been a huge fun of this place, even after the change of ownership, today however is the first time I noticed some changes. Natas s pricing have gone up considerably but I think it s still on the affordable side and they still taste yummy. I m not sure though what happened to their corn bread; The texture of the crumb used to be more coarse and rustic but the loaf I got today seemed almost too soft, like if it was done with very refined flour or less corn was used and it almost tasted industrial; please keep making the corn bread the same way it used to be. I also got their blueberry loaf, and in addition to being a bit burned, it felt extremely greasy. On the bright side, the employees were as nice as always, same with the happy atmosphere this place has ; I really hope this was just an exceptional day, as I m not planning to give up on this bakery anytime soon.

We ve been going here for years to pick up cakes, and the quality has stayed high even with the change in ownership. The cake tasted as good as it always has! Thank you for keeping the business going, and we will continue to come here and get our cakes & baked goods.

I heard that this place has new owners now and wanted to see how much had changed a few months later. I bought some of my favorites, brownies and eclairs as well as a strawberry shortcake that has a white chocolate coating. I also got one of their daily sandwhiches. All were so good. I couldnt even wait to take a picture before I ate half my sandwhich. Nothing in the recipes has changed to my knowledge and it seems like I will get to enjoy the European Bakery for many years to come. I dont know what I was worried about. I recognized many faces so they kept staff and the place seemed busy.

Our family has been loyal to European Bakery for 34 years. I was so disappointed when I walked in the other day. Limited selection of meats and cheeses. Limited selection of birthday cakes. But most importantly they have ruined the Long Johns. They added nuts, peanut butter, jam etc. Why ruin the one product that sells out before 9am? Leave it as is. Super disappointing. It s a shame Maria doesn t have eternal youth to keep the bakery running.

While I m not a super regular customer, I have been coming to this bakery for years and I have never been disappointed, until today which was my first visit since new ownership took over. Typically, every time I have come here in the past, I have always picked up their carrot cake as it was exceptional. Today, I purchased carrot cake and some other pastries, and the carrot cake was super disappointing. It was really dry, almost like it had been sitting there a while and didn t seem fresh, and the bottom was almost burnt so the taste was a bit off as well. I get how mostly the same items are being made with the same recipes and by the same people, but it was bad enough that I likely wouldn t purchase the carrot cake again in the future. I haven t had the other pastries yet so we will see how it goes but I m curious to see if my experience today with the carrot cake was a one-off or not.

The front ladies are not at all friendly or helpful. I was in the store today and a customer had a question about quantities and pricing. The customer was not aware of the fact that she had to get a number prior to being helped. It was my impression that english was not her 1st language and she battled to understand what the unfriendly worker was trying to expain to her. She eventually walked out without making any purchases. I should have done the same

This place is such a gem. Amazing sweets, great Staff. Sandwiches, cakes, sausage rolls, pastries, breads and an incredible selection of amazing doughnuts which would get 10 stars if I had the option.

Omgoodness biggest day of the year for your business and your closed! So many disappointed people hoping to grab a donut or bread. Past shows people were lined up outside! Remember to always keep your customers in mind! Poco is becoming very trendy! You stand to do quite well if you keep your doors open.

To bad the place changed owners. It was my go to place for portuguese buns and apple fritters. Unfortunately the new owners under cook the buns and have destroyed the fritters, cutting the size in half and butchering the taste by changing the ingredients that were originally being used. Ive been there twice in the last couple of weeks but no change. Good bye Europe Bakery & Deli Im not shocked just very disappointed. The employees might be the same but the flavor and texture sure took a nose dive. The Apple fritters and the portuguese buns were the best in the lower main land. Now they are tasteless. The new owners might be shocked to see many one star google reviews since theyve taken over. I wonder why? Such a shame!!

Love this place. Ive always been greeted with a smile from everyone working. Their donuts are delicious, natas are a family favourite and their muffins are tasty and filling. Lots of comments about new ownership, but I have to say, the quality is just the same! My favourite bakery in poco for sure!

The bakery has been under new management for quite a few months now. Im somewhat of a regular and occasionally stop by for a sandwich or a donut. The donut prices have increased by quite a bit (about 40%), but the quality has decreased. This can be seen by all the clearance donuts on the sale rack, which I never saw before the change in management. What annoyed me today was when I was getting my change. I saw the lady grab some coins from the top of the till (as opposed to IN the till, where coins are normally kept). When I checked, I discovered several coins were not legal currency. From what I saw, its pretty obvious what happened. She did replace the coins when I brought it to her attention, but its unfortunate that ones ethics and morals are not worth even a few coins. I wont be coming back.

Absolutely horrible customer service. The people who work here are incredibly rude. I ve gone in here numerous times now and almost every time they are extremely rude. Doesn t take much to smile when your job is to serve customers. Obviously horrible management if everyone is as miserable working here as they obviously are. My last interaction I tried to order a tuxedo cake over the phone, I said I wanted a long rectangular one and she kept quoting me enormous square sizes. It was like beating my head against a wall trying to communicate with them. I will never shop here again.

Downtown PoCo institution. Fresh baked goods and a deli. Surprised at the donut selection on my last visit. More donut options than I was expecting with each under $2. Not hipster donuts these are great apple fritters and jam filled traditional. Cant complain with change and a donut for a toonie.

Not the best bakery in my honest opinion. Strange service, feel heckled as soon as I enter the place. 5 employees behind the counter and constantly feel rushed by them. Weird experience with ordering sandwiches one time, only asked me what I wanted and not my partner - so she made us 2 of the same without even asking if we wanted one different. Felt rude to tell her to make us a different one. The treats we have gotten havent been extremely satisfactory, always leave us with a meh taste. Today we bought an apple fritter and we could only take one bite, it literally tasted like lemon lysol. At first I thought my partner was joking, but I tried it and only could taste a soapy chemical flavor. Very disappointing and total waste. Weve given this place countless chances to wow us and has never made the mark, quite frankly we give up. Doesnt taste up to quality standard at all - maybe its the new owners, maybe its the same employees. Either way, we wont be back.

Black Forest cake was horrible. My mom got my favourite cake for birthday. There was maybe a teaspoon of cherries at centre of cake and the cake itself was dry. Definitely not the cakes that I remember having from there. Also white chocolate added to a Black Forest cake, disappointed.

Best bakery in the Tri-cities. They offer an excellant selection of cakes, baked goods and deli food to go!

I am from Europe, and I can confirm that a lot of the baked goods are European and very tasty and fresh. Europe is very diverse in its baked goods and some people mostly from the Eastern European countries might find the selection to be lacking. I would like to see them remove the popular North American items that they have on the menu and substitute them for more European goods. I must also agree with a lot of the reviews that customer service is lacking. I would give it a 4 stars, but I promoted it to 5 stars because of the extremely affordable places. Will be back again.

Terrible cake! Bought a buttercream marble cake for my father s birthday and was not a traditional buttercream- by far. I was initially excited to finally get some items from this bakery, but quite embarrassed at the quality of the sponge and the icing, which was tooth-jarringly sweet, like a 90s grocery store-bought cake, but no real flavour at all. Didn t taste even remotely like traditional butter cream. Huge disappointment when buying from a European Bakery.

OH MY GOSH! WOW! I am blown away by the treats here. Hands down BEST APPLE FRITTER Ive EVER had in my entire life. The eclair was incredible too! Staff went above and beyond in service and friendliness. No photos because I ate them straight away I will be back and add photos to my review plus get some more goodies!

Not old world European at all in terms of bakery and sweets. Today, the young ones think everything is European if they havent seen it at their local supermarket or Costco. Pity. I guess bakeries are too lazy to make traditional rum, custard, and cream filled cakes. They cheap-out and mostly use sponge cake. Gross. Apple Fritters, North American donuts, and muffins at a European Bakery? Disgusting and appalling!! Its blasphemy!!!!

The Portuguese Custard Tarts are fantastic. They have a balance of European treats and standard bakery goods too. Lots of favorites and good prices too. The sandwiches are excellent and made especially for you to your liking.

The Long Johns donuts are the freshest, soooo good. They also have the best cold cuts in the area and as others have stated, the staff are great.

Super disappointed with their customer service. Pre-ordered on Tuesday (4 days in advanced) to pick up Saturday. When I arrived on Saturday, my order was not there. They tried to say I must have called a different bakery in Maple Ridge. I checked my phone and confirmed it was the poco bakery I called when I made my order. They apologized (obviously).... But that was it. Tried to offer something completely different than what I ordered. In the end I was so disappointed and frustrated due to their incompetence, that I left empty handed. Tip: if you pre-order, call on the day of pick up to confirm they received the order properly, because apparently they take your order and then lose it.

I bought 8 items to try. So disappointing. Cupcake dense, frosting gritty and lard-y. Cheese napoleon, again, sugar gritty consistency, extra sweet and ratio of spread to puff pastry was wrong eclair, meh. Have tarts left but I m not hopeful. I had high hopes seeing the line up but I wouldn t go back. I have heard the sandwiches are amazing, but I think the bakery is 4/10 overall.
