和平饭店 | Peaceful Restaurant
I went to the Vancouver branch some years ago. I remember it being really good, so I visited the Coquitlam branch. It did not disappoint. We ordered the beef rolls, pan fried pork, sweet and sour chicken, young chow fried rice, vegetarian noodles, hot and sour dumplings, a s Xiao long bao. Everything's really good. The only thing I didn't like about is how cold it is inside the restaurant. They had portable heaters on but it wasn't enough to make the whole restaurant warm. Probably their heater wasn't working that day. But other than that, we enjoyed eating in Peaceful restaurant in Coquitlam.
Great food! And friendly staff We've had and really enjoyed so far: ginger beef, Sichuan string bean, spicy tangy dumplings, and Xiao long bao (not pictured)
I had read my local Peaceful Restaurant (Poco) had very good Szechuan food and I was craving decent soup dumplings. I also ordered Dan Dan noodles, which I’d never had before, but seemed like a good bet. I was very happy with my selections. The soup dumplings were delicious. The skins were not super thin so you had something to chew, but not thick either that it would be heavy. Each dumpling held a lot of soup which was clear and tasty, not greasy at all like some other places. My Dan Dan noodles were such a surprise. So delicious - the flavours were well balanced. I would definitely return for another good meal there. I gave atmosphere a 4 only because some of the seats need repair.
Great Shanghai food! This place has signature beef rolls and dumplings. But don’t be afraid to try their other dishes. This time I ordered beef noodle soup and deep fried squid. Soup was perfectly flavoured (spicy) and noodles were just the right texture. Fried squid was also spot on, seasoned well and nice and crispy. There are lots of items on the menu I still want to try so I’ll be back.
We have been coming to Peaceful restaurant for years. Being from Edmonton, we only get here when we are visiting the Greater Vancouver area and the food is ALWAYS good and consistent. The noodles are so perfectly fresh and chewy, the beef rolls are crisp and the beef is cooked to perfection, the XLB are the best anywhere and the Dan Dan tastes like an airport hug. Often I find service can make or break a restaurant and the service at this location was phenomenal. Our server was attentive without being too much, friendly and super engaging. It was our first time at the Port Coquitlam location and it definitely will not be our last. Thank you again for the amazing service and food.
Having been to the other Peaceful Restaurants in Vancouver I was excited to hear that a location opened up so close to home. They seemingly opened quietly during COVID so I wasn't too sure what to expect and I'm sure a lot of people also don't realize that this location is here. So that's why I really wanted to try it out and leave a review, because I think there's great potential here and I hope they get more business! I've been here twice now, as of this review, and I think this is the type of spot where they do some dishes well, and others not as much. I often find that to be the case for restaurants with larger menus, not every place can do every dish well, and I think that's understandable! So your experience here could definitely vary depending on what you choose to order. The first time we came we ordered the Kung Pao chicken because another review said they enjoyed it, but we found it to be pretty "meh" and just okay. So the next time we came we ordered a different chicken dish, the General Tsao's Chicken, and we like that one much better! Much better flavour! Other dishes that we enjoyed were the Xiao Long Bao (a dish Peaceful Restaurant is known for), the Beef Rolls (another dish they're known for), the Spicy Gingered Beef, the Vegetable & Tofu Stir-fried Noodles, and the Sichuan Stir-fried Noodles. The broth in the Xiao Long Bao (Shanghai soup-filled dumplings) was delicious and went well with the vinegar they serve it with, the vinegar really helps to cut the richness of the broth and pork filling. The noodles also had a great texture to them, a nice bounce and chewiness that was satisfying. The Sichuan Stir-fried Noodles were my favourite as they also had a nice light heat to them. I will say that the "Spicy" Gingered Beef isn't very spicy but that may be a good or bad thing depending on who you ask. It's still very tasty regardless of if you're a spice fan or not! I had family members who visited on a separate occasion from me and they said they wouldn't recommend the fried rice (a category I didn't try on my visits) and that the squid had good flavour but was not crispy enough! So maybe keep those notes in mind when you're deciding what to order! Now, the ambiance at the restaurant is where I think there could definitely be improvement. It's very clean and quiet in the restaurant, but a little too quiet as there's no music at all! So if you go on a quiet night it's a bit strange having it be so silent. I'd recommend they put some light background music of some kind on and it would be much better. Also in terms of ambiance, they don't provide regular eating utensils, but plastic cutlery and styrofoam plates and cups. Yes this does upset me as someone who hates single use waste, but I do understand that they opened during covid and it seems to be very quiet for dine in (at least when we've gone). I suspect that they may also be short staffed, so this might be a way for them to keep costs low and keep workloads manageable with only a few staff members. I definitely hope in future that they will move toward regular cutlery and plates, but if this would be a deal breaker for your dine-in experience, then I recommend trying take out! I did see quite a few take out orders get picked up so that's definitely an option some customers are choosing, and it makes sense. Aside from the music and dinnerware, the waitress was very friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. Parking is also plentiful so there's no issues there. The price is not bad at all either, we always get at least another meal or two as leftovers so it's good value! My hope for this place is that it can work toward building a better ambiance and that people will still give it a try as they work toward that transition. I think there's room for improvement but I also think there's definitely some things they're doing well!
At the old Deer Garden location, so same humble Chinese restaurant vibes, which is something I personally like (not even any music). I'm guessing due to the pandemic, it was pretty empty, but our food came really quick and service was polite. They're known for their Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) and those didn't disappoint. We got other standard fare in this category of cuisine to test on this first visit (rice cakes, garlic string beans, Taiwanese beef rolls, Northern pork dumplings), and it was all very flavourful. I could eat the rice cakes all day. Not a fan of using disposable plates, though. Feels a bit irresponsible, especially with so few customers during the pandemic. Will definitely return for the food.
This place is new, but they are good! Fresh ingredients, great menu options, and friendly staff make this a go to! they are always friendly, easy smiling and helpful explaining everything. There is a friendly & lively atmosphere with great tasting food, quality of the meal was excellent and fully loaded. This place is neat and great, I like it very much. I also feel that their response to Covid-19 is very good I have seen in restaurants setting. I highly recommend you try them out, and you'll keep returning.❤️❤️❤️
The food and service were both amazing. Highly recommend the soup dumplings
This location is quite a lot worse than the location in Kitsilano. Peaceful Beef roll was extremely cold And it seems as though they added way too much sodium into the dressing and they used some sort of cheap roast beef variety. A little bit disappointed but the food was still alright.
it was in fact very peaceful Vegetarian options: meats can be substituted for tofu most of the time Food : 4/5 |
The food from Peaceful is amazing. They have made changes in the current economy--less sauce, recipe changes where old favourites are super spicy. I would love if they revamped their menu with spiciness ratings for each item.
The food is good here. Shanghai food is excellent.
Sezuan String bean and the ginger beef were delicious
The best Chinese restaurant not only in Coquitlam, but in all of metro Van. A true gem with top notch service and plenty of parking. Sweet and sour pork unlike any other and the spare ribs are to die for.
Because the word Peace Hotel came in, I was a little disappointed, but the taste still felt very homely. You can try it if you pass by occasionally.
Went to eat at Poco my first time ,every dish that we ordered was absolutely delicious and the service was fast and excellent very friendly staff and very clean. Highly recommend this restaurant
I celebrate my birthday party there service is soon nice and I love the food.Only problem is there is only one female to take order and serve to all customers.she is very hard working.i recommend to hire one or more to serve food
Great food.
Delicious northern Chinese food
Great food! Hidden gem. Food is quick getting to the table. So many options! So good! Really friendly people making sure you have everything you want and need. We have eaten there 4 times now in the last 2 months. Everyone we take there , loves it.
This place has really amazing dumplings. Their soup dumplings, as well as they re hot and sour soup with dumplings in it or two of my favourites and I always over eat when I go here because I just can t decide between the two. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10 for the food.
Best Chinese food in tricities hands down. Big portions, always fresh and yummy ingredients!! Highly recommend
Peaceful Restaurant is my answer to the question, If you could eat takeout from one restaurant only for the rest of your life which one would you pick? Beef roll and Dan Dan, to be specific.
Went to this restaurant for the first time. I ordered the beef rolls that are suppose to come with hoisin sauce. i asked the cashier if the hoisin sauce was in the bag and she said yes. When I got to work to have my lunch there was no hoisin sauce. I also ordered the Shanghai noodles, not enough veggies or protein for the price paid. Not sure if I will go back again.
I LOVE the Shanghai noodles and the xiao long Bao at the peaceful restaurant in Burnaby, but I live in Langley so I thought. Poco is closer and the same restaurant, same quality. WRONG! I walked in and even with the door chime. The person at the counter was on their phone, I stood and waiting for 3 1/2 minutes at the counter while she typed away on her phone, no greeting she didn t even hear me, ok whatever that s fine if the food quality is delicious. But it wasn t. The Shanghai noodles that I ve grown used to LOVING at peaceful Burnaby, were dry with no flavor or seasoning. The soup buns, almost all the soup leaked out into the container except for in one dumpling. Waste of money I threw the noodles out and ate the dumplings without the beautiful hot bite of soup.
Quick attention and very delicious food
Great food great service I had soup dumplings and the mushu stir fried noodles that were so yum!
The ginger beef didnt taste very good. Overall I was disappointed with the meal
Dont order uber eats from this place. Ordered multiple dishes but they forgot 2 out of the 3 XLBs I ordered. When I called to inform them and they asked me to pick it up or give it to me for free next time. If I ordered from uber eats, I clearly cannot pick it up. They offered to deliver it by 3pm , when my initial order was at 11am, then informed them their mistake at 1pm. Common sense isnt common with this restaurant.
Extremely disappointing quality of food, the portion size for a $18,$19 dollar dish was a square size small Tupper ware container HALF full. We called to complain and nothing done. Super super terrible place will never recommend or order from here again. Do better.
Worst place to order from bad quality and quantity. gives small take out dishes instead of the normal round ones and the small containers were only half full and charged me 19$ for each one. wasnt even enough for my family to eat. never been so dissatisfied with a Chinese food place as this. and the black bean beef was the smallest beef pieces that were shriveled up not like there pictures online at all. and when I call they dont care to fix it at all.
I ordered for take-out through the Peaceful Restaurant website, I promptly received a phone call to confirm my order shortly after making the order. Upon pickup, service was friendly and the food was appropriately packed (noodles separate from the soup to avoid soggy noods). Between my wife and I, we ordered 2 noodle dishes, a soup, and side dish of shredded pork; there was enough food for two separate meals. The food was flavourful, delicious, and authentic, but the noodles did not have the same chew as Ive previously experienced some time ago. Regardless I recommend giving this place a try. Parking: Free, dedicated parking lot.
The food is OK, there are few diners, there are enough parking spaces, and it closes at 9:00pm!
Ive been to the other locations and have always loved the dumplings, beef rolls and stir-fried noodles. This location is the same food that I know and love. Highly recommended!
Food was great, guy was working by himself but the service was still good
Food was excellent and service was fantastic and waiter was very helpful and friendly and I do highly recommend this place
Xiao long bau and beef roll? Sold.
Amazing flavour and quality. Variety of dishes to choose from
First time there. Great food and service.
Awesome food and great service.
Ordered through Uber eats, portions of everything we got were very small and pricey for what we got. The spicy squid was cold and not crunchy, the beef broccoli, gerneral tso chicken, spare ribs were all received in small portions. Food was mid, and would rather go elsewhere for food.
Absolutely excellent highly recommend. Everything is fresh and tasty.
Went in with young children for dinner and the restaurant was freezing cold. It was -1 outside but the owner refused to turn on the heater. There were two tables occupied and customers had their thick winter coats on while eating. We complained about the coldness and the draft from the window. The owner said she could bring out the small portable heater. Very ridiculous. We decided to leave. I will never come back nor recommend this restaurant to anyone.
My wife and I have been a consistent customer of this peaceful location since it has opened. Our initial excitement at its opening carried us through inconsistent quality over our years as customers, ranging from very good to Safeway hot bar quality at its worst. Our last order, however, was objectively the worst food I have ever paid money for. I can deal with the soggy general tso chicken and the chewy noodles. What is prompting this review is the overwhelming saltiness of the aforementioned chicken. I have never had su ch a physiological response to food, my jaw muscles clenched, my molars hurt and my tongue had a burning sensation akin to eating pizza before it had cooled. The staff have always been friendly and my displeasure is directed solely at the food, not at the people who work there. But let me be clear, I have made cookies where I accidentally used salt instead of sugar and they were more palatable than the two pieces of chicken I managed to consume. -Adrian
Wontons, spice n sour soup dumplings and pan fried pork buns. Best carb coma meal.
Ive ordered from this restaurant many times. Mainly because of their kung pao chicken!! It was the best Ive had. I ordered it the other day off uber eats (as I have always done) and when I got the dish, it literally only filled half the takeout container. But thats not even the worst part, not only was the container half full. 70% of the dish was just white onions!!! There were barely any other vegetables or chicken. The dish itself was disgusting. Nothing like how it tasted the previous times. It was as if I was given reheated leftovers from days ago. Just awful. Thankfully I was given a refund from uber eats. What I received was nowhere worth a $20 dish. I wont be order from here again.
Delicious, first time ordering. A slight mixup in orders, but great food.
Is a very good place to eat
Just like everyone is saying the beef rolls dont disappoint, they are very crunch and savory and the sauce inside is perfect. I ordered the Beef Szechuan noodle soup as well and the noodles were well made and the meat was very good quality!
Good service, tasty food
Great price Great service Good ambiance Yummmm food!
Food is good quality but price wise is a bit high.
Served me warmed up leftovers for full price. Gross
First time ordering take out very friendly service and the food was quite good. The pork buns were delicious and so was the mandarins wonton soup and the sweet and sour chicken. Will be sure to come again for more pork buns!!
Flavor-less rice , beef and chicken. Served on plastic plates with paper cups for your tea and water. Only table dining in on a Friday night at 6pm yet still hard to get service. Will not be returning.
Flavors amazing and staff very friendly and accommodating.
Staff werent very good at greeting. The noodles we ordered were very disappointing. Soggy as if they were soaked in the soup for hours, very poor texture and bland taste. Would not recommend if no other options. I dont cook much and I can cook better than that should tell the story.
Happy to have a Peaceful restaurant in Coquitlam. Food is consistently good, cant go wrong with dandan noodles and Xiao Long Bao.
Not busy. I liked the food.
So good. Northern Chinese food. Same quality as other peaceful restaurants.
I used to like this restaurant but the food quality is dropping. My favorite beef rolls- the dough was tasteless, very oily and the oil had weird nasty aftertaste (not sure if they use fresh oil or wash the dish in which they cook it). Noodle soup with chicken also disappointed, very few chicken pieces and also low quality and tasteless. I also made an order for pick up, it said it s ready for pick up in 20ish min, ended up waiting 45 min for my food disappointing overall.
Order Cumin Beef & Flatbread, Xinjiang Cumin Lamb and Sizzled Hot-Chili Noodles. We loved the first 2 dishes. The 3 one seems lack of salt.
The food was good. I got my usual one plate, sat with my one year old and 9 year old. Beef and broccoli lunch special about $12. Paid. And then the young Asian girl rudely tells me I HAVE to tip her. I replied with. Really okay no problem. Haha I found it really unprofessional, disgusting and catty. Never went back. This incident happened in the summer (mid july). I order from Uber eats now
Tried it once and will have to try again. The food was good but not as great as I remembered from the original Broadway location. One of the chicken dishes I tried was way too sweet but overall the food was pretty good and Ill try it again.
Very very slow staff.every time late for pick up.they said just 2 minutes. But they are polit and firendly.thank you.
Cumin beef stir fry noodles are the best! Wasnt too busy as we squeaked in just before they closed for the afternoon.
I saw the cook in the kitchen lighting a cigarette
First time eating here. My first time having real Chinese food and it was to die for. We had steamed pork buns, bok choy with garlic sauce, deep fried salted squid, Shanghai stir fried noodles and cumin beef. Never had house made noodles before and they were so good. Really loved everything about our meal and will definitely be back!
Ordered Take-out from here. Food was average, nothing stood out but the Ginger beef was good. Ginger beef 4/5 Dan Dan noodles 3.5/5 General Tsaos Chicken 3/5 Fried rice 3/5
This place is a hidden gem for sure! Good quality food and reasonable prices. Loved their chicken corn soup and Mala boiled fish! I can t wait to eat there again when I visit poco.
Great food, great service and reasobale price
Best Chinese food in the lower mainland. Super fresh and amazing taste. So happy they opened one close to home! Try the peaceful house stir fry noodles and the peaceful beef roll, they are to die for!
Food quality is good, waiter attitude is good, price is reasonable
So Happy the Peaceful has moved into Coquitlam !!! Now I dont have to take the train to get soup !!! Such Fantastic food and Lovely Staff !! Highly recommended !!
Have a tasty beef soup noodle today. Will visit again
Had the Szechuan pulled noodle stir fry and it was just awesome. Super tasty. The dim sum was also very tasty, especially the beef rolls with sweet hoisin sause.
Brand new restaurant in the Tri-Cities area. Nice serving sizes and nice chewy noodles. The moo shu noodles were particularly good with the tasty sauce soaked all the way into the noodles.
Dan dan noodles and peaceful beef roll are always the absolute best.
Great Xiao Long Bao , Best in the Tri Cities . Very similar to Longs Noodle House in Vancouver .
I m based out of Vancouver and I would say Peaceful is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants. Having seen a Coquitlam location of Peaceful, I was kind of skeptical at first. After trying their food, I could easily say it was one of the better Chinese Restaurants in the Tri-Cities. Portions are big, food tastes great and service was quick. It may be new but I grew up in Coquitlam, this place is top notch and worth the takeout or dine in.
Heard about this new place, decided to order take out. At first glance I was a little dissapointed with the lack of sauce and only 4 pieces of pineapple in the Sweet and Sour. But then I tried it.. and my opinion totally changed. Perfect sweet and sour sauce. Beef rolls were greasy, but so tasty. Gyozas were really good too. Ill be back to try more!
When this place first opened it was amazing ! No complaints as it was filled with a nice authentic Chinese taste. However as time went on this place started to cheap out and get worse ... never ordering from here again ... if I was sitting in the restaurant I would of sent all of my dishes back as I ordered from them today and it had 0 taste and was overcooked Had extremely small portions for the price.. simply not impressed.
tasty food,, well cooked and good value. Northern chinese cuisine so not your regular menu.... hot and tangy dim sum is a must
I love the fried rice , so good and so fresh
Wonderful food and a friendly staff. The Xiao Long Bao are some of the best in the are and I have tried them all. The beef tool is also particularly good. Definitely give this place a try!
Best Dan Dan noodles in town. Beef roll is delicious too.
We usually go to the Broadway location which has always been good. We thought we would try this location for a change. Unfortunately the food was not as good as the Broadway or downtown locations. It should have been an indicator to us at 6:00pm, there was no one else picking up food, or no takeout food sitting on the counters, completely quiet. And almost $60 for three small takeout containers, was not impressed.
We love going to Peaceful. Theyre great when it comes to any customizations you need, and the staff is always friendly. Their food is delicious!
Excellent dimsum. Not many dine-ins yet.
Great food, excellent service, reasonable price, clean washrooms, spacious parking spot
As close as it can be to Northern Chinese cuisine here in MetroVan! The fried noodles were not entirely authentic but geez, it was so delicious! 1* was taken off fir using disposable utensils!
The noodles are delicious and the soup base is authentic. It s delicious! ! !
Love the Beef rolls! That s what I go there for
It tastes good and the lunch price is right.
Absolutely Amazing! Guy Fieri got us to go downtown & Peaceful Coquitlam has brought downtown to us. Warm, welcoming staff, incredible flavours will be going back very soon. Anyone going has to try the Dan-Dan & make sure not to forget the beef roll.
Not at the top for sure but service okay, food same. Pricey for the quantity served. Good point is air conditioned works well and place enjoyable when hot outside
Their juicy dumplings are a must try!!
Amazing beef rolls, crispy ginger beef and Kong Pow Chicken like always. Didnt get the steam bums this time should have they are awesome too. They need to let people in the area they are there! As its a little hidden secret more people then Vancouver locations need to know.
We have been to this place about 5 times now and each time is the same as the last. Chinese food perfection! Fast, friendly service. Never one thing wrong with order. The food is amazing. So many choices. Guy Fieri was right about this place. We drive 30 minutes past countless other Chinese restaurants to get the best. Mandarin orange ginger chicken is my favorite.
Good was good and stuff vary tasty Also staff was nice
The paper plates and cheap forks we were given to eat off at were at best from a dollar store
Paper and plastic plates? The food wasnt anything to rave about either
Xiao Long dumplings as good as the downtown locations. Very clean restaurant and very nice staff.
Spacious, lots of tables and good foods
We went here with a group of 5 people during the lunch time. Food was delicious and prices were reasonable. However, they served they provided plastic bowls and paper plates to eat off. We would go back for the food definitely but want glass plates and bowls.
they seem to have reduce the portion of each dish significantly in 2021, same goes to the quality of food. never go there again.
Ordered fried noodle and the noodle was so broken and short. Not very satisfying to eat. Server was genuine but too slow and not attentive. Wait time for food was also long even though the restaurant was not busy. Beef roll was good but pretty oily
Would come here again. Ordered beef roll, stir fried noodle, and steamed buns. Personally, I think the beef roll was the best, because I really like the beef in the roll, which is not so greasy. I would put it in the top 5 of my favorite dishes. The stir fried noodles also tasted quite well, noodles were medium fried and the spices are perfect. A point worth mentioning, the portion of the dishes are adequate, enough to fulfill my empty stomache. Just a recommendation of mine, if you are not going, then you are missing out.
This is our familys favourite restaurant!
Portions are small for what you pay and quality not that good. Too greasy!
My fave type of northern chinese food is now in coquitlam/port coquitlam. Now i dont have to go to w broadway in vancouver. Just remember, all chinese food is customizable, if u dont like greasy food, remember to tell then to use less oil. I have to ask for less oil ad no green onions everytime i go to all chinese restaurants to get take out for my home bound elderly parents
I used to live downtown and to have a peaceful in Coquitlam is amazing, portions are not as big as some places but the quality is on another level. This place is by far the best Chinese food in the lower mainland.
We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food from this restaurant. It was a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. We will definitely order from them again.
Best chinese food I have ever had! Not greasy or overly salty. The food always tastes fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend their beef rolls and ginger beef. I m happy I don t have to go all the way to vancouver to get peaceful s food anymore. Some dishes cost more than other places but it is definitely worth the quality and taste.
Good quality stir fry noodle or rice cake thing. Also, really good beef wrap, must try! Will come back and try their dinners as their stir fried dishes are pretty good!
I Really like this chain but we will never go to the coquitlam chain again. A quarter way through the dinner we found a worm in our food. When we ask the waiter what this was? She freak out and got the owner I m guessing... he ask if we want them to remake it? We said no and he said we wouldn t have to pay. We got up after and just got out. I know it s covid times and their new but I hope they do the basic food preparation and wash their vegs properly moving forward... However, The owners seems like good people hopefully their learn and improve.
2 stars for the small portion!
