Had a bad feeling about this place but my buddy insisted it was good so I took the shot. Worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. Better off starving yourself. Lol The woman at the counter just stares are you while you eat and gives you bad looks. Also found hair in the rolls. Never coming back here
We have been regular customers at this restaurant, but our last two experiences have been disappointing. Dine-In: During our recent visit, the fish was not fresh, and our plates were dirty. We had to ask for clean ones, and even then, the waiter insisted they were fine until I wiped one with a tissue to show her the spot of dirt. The pickled ginger was inedible—very bitter—which affected the taste of the sushi pieces nearby. Surprisingly, they only addressed the ginger and not the inedible sushi! They also forgot one of the rolls we ordered, and when we inquired, the waitress claimed we hadn't asked for it. Takeout: We called around 8:30 PM, half an hour before closing, and were informed they would only accept cash since the cashier was closed. We ordered about $55 worth of food, which was ready in 15 minutes. However, except for one roll, the rest was awful. The fish tasted off and smelled really bad, and the pickled ginger was bitter again. We ended up throwing most of the food away. The few bites we had was enough to make us both feel sick. Tribble stomachache! The next day, I spoke with the lady behind the counter about our experience. She seemed rushed and didn’t let me finish my explanation, offering a $5 discount coupon for our next visit. When I expressed my concerns about the quality of the fish, she dismissed them, saying, "No, the fish is good here... okay, we’ll talk to the owner!" I tell you what, the owner is behind all of this to save cost! As loyal customers who love supporting local businesses, we are disappointed. This was our favorite sushi restaurant, but we can’t return after these experiences. 0 stars for customer service and 0 stars for food quality! We won’t be back.
Terrible. Virtually inedible. Not fresh at all and made my stomach feel off. Will be throwing most of it away.
This is our favourite sushi restaurant, and we eat a LOT of sushi. You can't beat the price, and the quality and taste are consistently great. The staff are kind, hardworking and skilled. We've been eating here years and are so glad that this gem is in our neighborhood.
This has to be the worst Sushi we've ever had. We ordered for takeout last week. Completely tasteless, the rolls all fell apart when we tried to pick them up Tempura was burnt with mostly carrot and zucchini. The beef roll tasted like deli meat. My partner could not eat it, so we ended up throwing it all away. So much for our very rarely lunch get together during the week. 👎
Have bought sushi from for a few years, quality is honestly not the greatest, but I always thought it was ok considering the price. This time, the quality was possibly the worst I have ever seen. To start off, the rice was not marinated at all, tasted like nothing. Found hairs in one of the rolls… (see photo) The avocado used in the rolls was not fresh (see photo) And last but not least, salmon smelled, you know the smell when the fish is not fresh Low and affordable prices is definitely a pro, but to sacrifice the quality to such extent just to keep the prices low is absolutely not acceptable
Forget the poor reviews of this place. The sushi was cheap, delicious, and served quick! Staff were friendly enough and they served us promptly. All the rolls were really tasty (We tried the spicy negitoro, twin salmon and spicy smoked oyster rolls) and the fish was fresh. Ignore the bad reviews, I’ll definitely be coming back for more!
Updating review. This used to be our go-to for a fair priced, consistent meal, but the quality has really gone down in the past 6 months or so.
If you read Fraser health inspections of hiro sushi 5 times they failed big time This is proof Inside of bathroom is messy and a dump Food takes like shit If you read fraser health restaurant inspection they found lots of rodent and mouse dropping all in kitchen which means lots of mice in kitchen ---go read these reviews online
We love mango cream cheese and avocado cream cheese roll. My daughter is a big fan of this restaurant.
Been consistent for many years, affordable , quick and efficient.
Feels like a family owned small business. Food is good. Clean and prompt service.
Its great for takeaways. Very reasonable. Best to order online.
First time here and definitely will be back.
There good
The Red Dragon roll is my favorite here, that and a bowl of rice and chicken teriyaki, with the chicken made extra crispy. Everyone is always pleasant, and the food quality and taste are amazing.
We have been the loyal customers of Hiro sushi for more than 3 year. But today was the last day we bought sushi there. We waited for an hour for our order that, as we were told, should have been ready in 20 min. 1 HOUR! Totally unacceptable. The staff did not even apologize. Nobody cared. Absolute disappointment.
One of the best Sushi spots in the area, truly a hidden gem. The staff are all so nice and the food is the highlight. I have came here for years and I will continue to for the rest of my life (or as long as i can)
WORST experience ever; from beginning to end. I would never EVER go back or order to takeout from this place. Kid-friendliness: IT is not friendly at all!
Great food! Great service
The food is fine but not the service. Ordered from here a couple of times from DoorDash and it always shows up significantly later that the estimated time provided. Today I asked the dasher because I could see his location was at the restaurant for ages. He said the lady at the restaurant made him wait for more than 15 mins and was very rude, insisting that he wait outside. Maybe the restaurant need to remember that the dashers help them get more customers.
Got takeout this evening for 2 people. Received hardly any gyoza sauce with our order, the ramican was filled up about 1/10 of the way. Given no soy sauce. Only one pair of chopsticks for quite a big order. Initial service was not a good experience when arriving there either. I called to let them know of this so they were aware, and the lady on the phone just said oh, okay after expressing my dissatisfaction. No apology, no recognition or compensation for their errors. Don t think we will be going back.
Friendly staff. Pretty good food.
Delicious and reasonably priced food. Try Hiro in Poco, you wont be disappointed.
I was quite disappointed with my sushi tonight. I have been ordering from this restaurant for yrs. and the food has always been good except for tonight. My fish had 4 large pieces of cartilage in it. One piece even had a chunk of skin still attached which made me think I was eating cheek pieces. Of course these pieces werent found until it was chewing. My teeth are now a bit sore and I hope I didnt fracture them. I probably wont order from here again Up date: I took the cartilage back to the restaurant and after a bit of discussion the replaced 1 of the rolls I had bought the night before. No cartilage this time but I did get a bone in the salmon.
They had huge Ratons!
Love this place, food is always great quality and at a good price! Service is fast and friendly!
Sashimi was great. Service was alright. The food, however, requires some improvement. They were out of gyoza so we tried the veggie option and it was different. The tempura was saturated with grease but tasted alright. The rolls and salad were the best part. They have good roles. I recommend ordering bottled water here as well. Would happily pay as much as I did if we our table was happy with the food. I will come back in a few months to report any improvements to the menu.
Love this restaurant. They have great food and I have to say I much prefer to support the mom & pop restaurants
4 adults ordered 4 special rolls, and it was fantastic! Try the Hawain or the Dinosaur. Very nice. Parking: Lots of free parking out back. Kid-friendliness: Space for the kid stroller.
I came here a second time and I had to change my review since it improved a lot from the first time. The server was way nicer, food is really cheap but we loved it!
Great food, felt like I was sitting in a storage room..felt eclectic..perfect for the night.
I love this place. A long standing brick in the wall that makes pocos downtown area ! I remember coming here once during a visit with some friends back before there was even a skytrain station in coquitlam. The prices are on the lower end, and for someone like me whos been slowly priced out of eating their favorite food in the world, 16 dollars for a super filling combo including the tip is like a golden shining beam of hope. I got the avocado roll sushi combo which included an avocado roll, a salmon avocado roll and a tuna avocado roll. They really dont skimp you on food. It was a full meal and some leftovers for later. The rice was Fluffy and seasoned just right, though the amount of rice took away from the flavors of the fish in some bites. The fish was fresh and delicious. The avocado was bright and creamy. It was exactly what I wanted and needed. The workers here are lovely. The woman who helped serve me was kind and accommodating with a lovely smile, even when I had to run back into the store to ask for a few extra napkins. The indoor space gives it this hole in the wall feeling. Its sparsely decorated with basic tables and chairs. Nearly unchanged for over 10 years (atleast to me). The beautiful chalk illustrations that wrap around the ceiling above the counter gives the place beautiful character, and me and my partner admired the beautiful hand drawn artwork while we waited for our food. Between the people, the price, the food and the physical restaurant space that makes me feel like Ive stumbled into some secret little gem, I love it here and Im going to be back to help curb my cravings for my favorite food in the world.
Good food with fair right portion
Sushi was ok, nothing to write home about. They have a massive selection.
This is one of the hidden gems in PoCo. A small shop with fresh sushi at amazing prices. The place is pretty tiny and geared more towards take out, with some seating inside. Staff are friendly and parking is plentiful in the area. Give it a try, you wont be disappointed!
Been coming here since I was 15. Its been more than 20 years and the food tastes the same and the same freshness!!! Love me some Hiro Sushi!!!
Hiro Sushi is a minimalist dream where the sushi speaks volumes. This place strips down the sushi experience to its pure, delicious essence - no small talk, no upsells, just straight-up, quality sushi. The menu is brilliantly focused, like a zen garden of fish and rice. Don t expect fusion experiments here; it s traditional sushi crafted with almost samurai-like precision. The chefs? Culinary gods, quietly creating masterpieces. And let s not forget the $11.50 sushi special combo - an unbeatable value for your buck. It s like finding a treasure chest in the world of sushi - decent quality at a price that makes your wallet as happy as your taste buds.
A great little sushi shop in PoCo. Prices are cheap and food is delicious. We love supporting this local shop.
The best place. The best food. The best owner. The best chef. Food : 5/5 |
3rd time they have messed up my order. Not including the times they have even forgot my chopsticks or soy sauce.
Was rated 9.7 in skip. I ordered pickup for battered deep fried chicken wings and all came back uncooked raw.
Terrible Food and terrible customer service, would not recommend!
This place has gone down hill BIG TIME!!! The inside looks disgusting , messy, boxes everywhere. Looks like a storage room not a restaurant. The sushi is sub par. Dynamite roll had no imitation grab, just must avacado a bunch of Mayo and with cucumber . The ginger was old and brown. Not edible. Dont let the prices fool you, you will get what you pay for at this place.
One of the worst Japanese restaurant I ve ever tried. Bad quality sushi, the salmon sushi has almost none salmon, terrible presentation. It s cheap, but it s a waste of money. Do yourself a favour and don t waste your money here, there are several other Japanese restaurants around much better at a similar price.
Tiny PoCo Gem good prices ans consistent quality!
My friends and I always go here or order from skip for hiro sushi, we are ABSOLUTELY in love with their tasty food AND affordable prices!!! Definitely worth a shot to eat in if you can. The washroom could be cleaner though
Delicious food, great prices and very good service.
Really good sushi
Ordered today from the Qmenu website and it was ready in like 10 minutes, granted I live 3 mins away. Anyway, stars for convenience and price. I read the reviews after I ordered and was really worried about the quality of food but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Picked up my order of miso soup, agedashi tofu, karaage chicken, 18pc california roll, avocado and mango roll, fitness roll and the dynamite sushi combo. 60$ including tip and its a lot of food. Looks good, tastes okay, fair price and decent portions. My agedashi tofu wasnt as crispy but its still good. California rolls are huge. Rolls with mango are actually good. Not bad at all.
Affordable mid week sushi/Japanese food but quality is not the best especially their rice. It definitely is not Quality Japanese sushi rice so their donburi suffers and their rolls are soggy.
Rice is not properly cooked. Way too soft almost rice cake. Fish are not fresh at all. The ginger, Gari tasted very old so I quit eating. The Toro they call is not Toro. They should not call this sushi. Period.
Love this place. So fresh and delicious. Definitely put love into their food. Reasonably priced. Local. Big supporter. Thank you.
Great value, good food
I love this place! Food is amazing, price is great ! Food
Love hiro sushi! Its our fave sushi restaurant near dt poco. They have excellent service and quality rolls. I recently ordered a salmon don for takeout and the salmon slices were thick and fresh. All their speciality rolls are delicious too. Highly recommend this place! Parking: parking is available on the street or in the back lot
Ive been coming to this restaurant for about 15 years or more now. I dont usually sit inside, I just get take out as its a very small place, and can get crowded quickly. Id rather pig out on their sushi in the comfort of my own home. That being said, their sushi is amazing, and I refuse to eat sushi anywhere else now. (Except one place in New West, but its a different kind of sushi altogether, for a different review) Their sashimi is so fresh and chilled, the party trays are epic, and the its all very well made and easy to eat. They have always treated me like family, remembering everything we talk about, and consistently checking in about previous situations I had mentioned. This is a great family, working very hard at what they do in order to stay afloat. Please show them some love and support. Vegetarian options: Try the avocado and mango roll!!! Dietary restrictions: Try the brown rice on your rolls instead of white. Parking: Park on Shaughnessy St or in the large parking lot in the back. Wheelchair accessibility: This building is in the main floor. Its not optimal to eat in, but the tables can be rearranged for easy accomodation
My favorite place for the last 10 years! I dont know where they are taking salmon, but Salmon Sashimi (and any sushi with salmon) is the best in all Vancouver Area, always super fresh and tasty. Plus a good amount of fish. Parking: A lot of parking at the back Wheelchair accessibility: First floor with one of entrances from the mall
This is my favourite take-out or delivery sushi restaurant. Their dining-in options are a bit limited, and more suited for a quick bite and go. Do not look to go for a romantic dinner. The value is very reasonable, food delicious, but sometimes a little inconsistent. Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian rolls, tempura, and cooked meal options. Unsure though if the kitchen practices isolates meat preparations from vegetarian.
Best size sashimi every!
Best sushi place I have been to in all of the lower mainland. Lacks good service but the rolls are always fresh and the deep-fried options are always crispy and perfect.
Put off by the servers lack luster attitude and the fact eat in food is being served on styrofoam.. makes it feel SO cheap. The California rolls were very cold as well. Will not be returning.
Great place, love the food, my favorite go to places in Port Coquitlam fast and affordable
I have been going to Hiro sushi for a few months now and am a frequent customer now. Today, they accidentally made a mistake with my order and I called and they quickly resolved it without hesitation. Great customer service right there. I will continue to refer this place to my friends and continue to support this local business. In terms of quality the fish tastes fresh especially their salmon. The portions are generous and my kids love the California rolls. The bento box is of great value and we usually order this. My personal favourite is the salmon don which offers large portions of fresh salmon.
I got Sushi Special meal, cheap but high quality
I have been a customer of this place for about 9 years and I barely review anything but the sheer length of time that I have spent at this place compels me to give one now. In the beginning, they were simply incredible. Cheap prices, combined with huge portions. I have been to well over 100 sushi restaurants in fraser valley and they have been the best of all. The only contendor was Banzai Sushi in Richmond or their sister location, Samurai Sushi House on Cambie. Salmon was the thing that attracted me the most as they used to offer 8 pieces of sashimi for 9 dollars. Fast forward to 2021, I will not be coming back, for greener pastures have emerged. Size dwindled and prices shot up. Now that by itself is not a problem as food prices and inflation have led to a general increase everywhere. Other aspects of the restaurant have, unfortunately, decayed as well. I suspect it was the change in owners around 5 years ago, but food quality diminushed. Lots of vinegar in the rice, and less than enthousiastic staff. The most infuriating thing is their habit of shortchanging you, most commonly in pickup orders, and with salmon and tuna, which are the most expensive items on the menu. Today, to celebrate my fathers birthday, we bought a large amount of sushi for them. We drove almost 1.5 hours in the godawful traffic from Cloverdale for the food because such was Hiros reputation with us. We were given 20$ less in salmon sashimi, and that amount was used as tip to deceive us. It is a shame to see what this place has become and to this day, there is no equal to what they once were. I am never coming back and I urge all customers to triple check everything that you pay and receive. Bloody shame.
The food was delicious.
Have been going here for years reasonable prices and good food
Best take out sushi great value
did not include one of the items i ordered from skipthedishes
Excellent sellection of types of sushi. Affordable prices!
Very good quality food with friendly owners! THANK U!!
Very good Sushi for a very good price !
The dish I ordered was overly sour. So I called the restaurant to complain right away. She said the dish was supposed to be like that. So I went directly to the restaurant in person. I spoke to the waitress to pick up the new dish. They did not give it to me. She had a horrible attitude. Then the owner came out and and started to yell at me. Needless to say the customers service was poor and borderline abusive. Not recommended.
Very fresh and good size portion. Excellent value.
Ah, used to eat here all the time in high school. Came back for the first time in years and it was just as refreshing as I remembered.
Never had a problem here. Great prices and Ive always gotten exactly what I ordered. And Ive ordered here many many times.
Convenient to home, Excellent service, and great tasting sushi. Love especially their BentoBox.
Delicious!
Do not go here they are rude it was a regular spot of mine I spent at least $60/week and the odd time if I didn t feel like cooking sometimes double that... when covid started I asked them if they were gonna start using gloves... she told me NO! And if I m so concerned about it to take my business elsewhere the health inspectors should be writing them up and the authorities should shut them down for this criminal act during a pandemic. These guys do not care and for this I hope they go bankrupt and/or have there business taken away
Delicious! Ordering online is a breeze
Super cheap, consistent quality. Fast service. Sometimes have to double check the order to make sure your order is correct.
Fast take out. Good deals on the specials
The taste was awful. I mean who would put tons if sushi vinegar in the sushi rice, and the amaebi was not fresh at all. The whole meal just tasted smushy and sour overall.
Great for take-out. We order from here often for a few reasons: Priced well, generous portions, good sushi combos, quick and efficient and ability to order online directly ahead of time.
Better than all the other sushi restaurants Ive been to.
I like it
The food is very very good I love it however the people that have bought the place seemed absolutely miserable very unfriendly like extremely unfriendly not sure why they went into customer service there that unhappy of people but they do make good food so I guess maybe you have to give up something
My go-to sushi spot in Port Coquitlam
Great food
Terrible service from a wonan with glasses. We will never return to this place again!!!
A few days ago i was with my friends in this place. We got terrible service from a woman with glasses.
we were here just an hour ago. got terrible service from the lady taking orders. she was extremely rude!!! waited for 40 mins only to find out she forgot our order. we always come to this place coz it is just around the block and food is great. we are regular customers and it was unforunate how this experience ruined it for us. please bring back the friendly young lady who was working there before!
The food is really disappointing. The California rolls had a strong taste of detergent. The soy sauce is much saltier than normal. The seaweed was soggy and the yakiudon was more plain than what you get at the food court. Even something as simple as the miso soup was off. The only reason I m giving it a 2 stars instead is because my kid liked the chicken teriyaki. There s better quality and value elsewhere.
Whoa! This used to be our go-to for cheap, decent sushi. They jacked up their prices for the new year--over a dollar on many items. No thanks. Sushi Fu is now cheaper and a bit tastier. ETA (after the response): I still have a menu from last year to compare with my most recent visit, showing a dollar increase on many of the items.
Value for the money. Lots of take out. Not much eatin.
Great food, especially the spider roll.
Tastes good
My all time favorite place for sushi... always fresh... and they offer brown rice options ( healthy point important for me) the BEST prices in all the Lower mainland... this is not the place if you are looking for atmosphere... but for good fresh inexpensive sushi its the BEST...
Sweet combination of rude waiters, great kitchen, moderate prices, and mediocre interiors.
Great tasty food and great service, one of the best sushi restaurants at poco, will visit more!
The food is great, and cheap, but thats not the problem. The problem here is the absolutely disorganized staff. The lady taking our order got confused many times, forgot my miso soup, and accused my friend of leaving without paying, making us pay for him a second time. They appear to not keep or evrn print receipts unless asked, and only after he showed her the exact change, did she refund us for the double payment. What makes it worse is her sheer rudeness throughout the whole situation, accusing us of leaving without paying, and only supporting her claim with a pen-written order list. Get it together, recpits for every purchase is the bare minimum, not just for card purchases.
The price is marvelous but the chicken teriyaki tasted absolutely bland. The rubber chickens at Spencers would taste 10 times better then Hiro Sushis Teriyaki. To top it off the service was just absolutely horrendous, the employee explained to my colleague that he did not pay for his meal, even though he has already payed 10-15 mins before I left. I then had to pay for his meal once again. Words cannot describe how frustrating I am with this restaurant.
Great Sushi for a great price!
I loved the 18 roll 8 dollar deal. The prices were great in general. A little slow but thats why the 4 stars instead of 5. Nice service though.
Value used to be so good but it appears they have increased the price noticablely and its just not worth it at what theyre charging. Like the Sushi special went from around 8 dollars to 11
Good. Neither bad nor good
Service was horrible not friendly at all...the girl who took my order had a bad look on her face the entire time. Try smiling if you want people to return
Personal preference, they have sea food in non seafood items
Awful tasting sushi.
Not polite but good portions and prices
NEW HIRO SUSHI is not very NEW at all. Very very bad experience. The restaurant is very ghetto with light fixtures falling/incomplete. The waitress was on her phone all time and seemed like she didn t want to be there. When I was finished eating, I had to go up to the counter to get the server s attention from her phone to pay my bill my bill was not ready and she added it all up on a calculator. She showed me my total by showing her calculators display. When I gave her cash she ripped me off by 10 cents. Not very much but says a lot about this restaurant. Oh did I forget to mention the little bowl for the wasabi/soy sauce was dirty. The tuna maki roll had bad tuna in it. I would only recommend this restaurant to foodsafe for a shutdown!
The sushi is not that great but I go cause its convenient. I order 45 mins in advance as I get a small lunch break. I go to pick up and pay then patiently wait for 15 mins then I ask where my food is and it was sitting on the counter the whole time. Thanks, my time is important hence why I ordered 45 mins in advance. Will now walk the extra block down the street to the next sushi place.
Yummy sushi! The crazy boy roll is delicious!
Great service I love the Sushi Special.
Good food, worn out digs
Great sushi, some signature items that my wife cant eat, so I get the whole thing.
Bad service and often takes much longer than it needs to. Also have had a couple cases where their sashimi destroys my stomach.
My go-to place for quick sushi in Poco
It was ok. Id try it again
Price is right.
Terrible food that took way too long to get to the table considering it was all vegetables. Waiter did not say hello neither offered us a second cup of tea.
I ask for one simple thing. Dont put wasabi in the box. Get home and theres wasabi all over half my sushi. Dont know how hard it is to follow one simple instruction but Ill be contacting them tomorrow for my money back
I order take out from here pretty regularly as well as dine in sometimes. The food is here fantastic
Food was so so and there yam tempura was soggy and mushy. The teriyaki beef had way to many onions.
Good food but lack if service. I had to get up and ask them to take my order and had to pour my own water while the only server was busy on her phone. She was also giving others attitude and the same quality of service. Should just be a self serve sushi place.
Good sushi. Very popular with the locals.
Good food and quick. The service was awful though. Would do take out next time......
Fodd is ok. (Udon is less than average.) Service is way below average; under staff. Waited 10 min just to speak someone to place an order. And asked to wait for 40 min for take out? No way.
Would be 5 stars if the service was any good. The food was amazing and definitely worth 5 stars, but the service should be 1 star. Prices are very affordable for the portions and quality. Order out, unless you prefer serving yourself.
Go here if you want hair in your sushi roll. Happened to us 3 times in 6 months. The prices are good and when there is no hair in it it s decent sushi. However the customer service is also a bit hit and miss. Sorry just can t get over the hair
Yummy Sushi and Tempura. Reasonable price.
Always fresh food. Good price big meals. Beef Udon is very good!
I Enjoy this place for an affordable and enjoyed meal every time. They are consistent and the environment is peaceful.
.Average Thin slices of fried chicken are a bit pricey
Great sushi! Most often do take out. Restaurant is small but staff is efficient.
Great food for the price. My top pick in the Poco downtown area.
Have been coming for years and food is great but recently service has gone down down down hill. We came in and the place was empty but we were ignored for 10 minutes, and had to get our own menus and tea. Theres also no smiling or polite words such as please or thankyou. Pains me to write this review... Please change the service for the better!
Rice not cooked thoroughly
Food is great..very tasty. The size portions are good and prices are reasonable. BUT THE SERVICE IS AWFUL! not very welcoming.. I had to serve myself the tea. But try it its good eats.
Great fast service.. sushi was good
The service is extremely bad. The lady that working yelled at my mother for asking for a table. My whole family walked out. It was uncalled for. There is no way I would come back..if you like rude service then this place is for you.
Good but not the best. If you need cheap and quick it works.
Salmon sashimi like no other
The pricing is phenomenal. Great value. Super fresh sushi, crab and seaweed in the miso. The place is busy but there is never a wait to get seated. Yum in the tumtum. I recommend and personally plan on returning. Again and again. Free parking in the back for 2 hours. Also the place is in the back side of the building. Tricky to find for the first time.
WARNING: Please read this before you ever contemplate coming here. I have come here a number of times, I was mainly attracted to the cheap prices. And cheap, low quality sushi is what I got. That was a fair deal. But it went unessarily beyond being cheap, low quality food. In fact. I have never been so horrified by a business in my entire life. And my expectations are not too high. Every single time I went in I got horrible customer service from the main server there. And from the looks of it, too many share this experience as well. In fact, I stopped eating in the restaurant because of the service, or lack thereof. One time, she (the main server) took about 40 minutes to acknowledge that we were in the restaurant, and when she did acknowledge us it was very hostile and aggressive. Because of that, and the soggy cold food we received, we had no obligation to tip... quite the opposite actually. We should have gotten our money back. Flash forward to a recent incident where I decided I order out from them to avoid the terrible experience of eating inside that filthy restaurant. As I mentioned earlier, I have ordered from there several times, thus I m positive she recognized my number as I called. We go in to pick it up and she has our food waiting. We take it home and are immediately astonished to see our sushi is moist. We more closely examined it, and it had a rotten, garbage smell. The fish was slimy and liquidy. We shrugged it off as maybe being a sauce they use, and did we ever regret that. Just so you know folks, basic tuna rolls DON T have added sauce. A clear red flag we ignored. We both felt our stomach blowing up, I felt lightly nauseated. To this day we have no idea what we were eating, potentially sushi that was sitting around for weeks, or a fabrication of organic waste materials. Either way, this food was toxic and we felt the effects immediately (luckily we didn t eat much). We can only guess at this point why we were given the bad batch, but I suspect it has something to do with us not tipping. We returned the sushi back to its rightful place, and my god was she not surprised to see us. In fact, there was absolutely no hesitation or resistance of her part (big red flag). She barely listened to our complaint before she went straight to the cash register to refund us. The owner on the other hand, who wasn t there when the whole initial transaction took place, pathetically tried to suggest that he just got new tuna that day (a Sunday). But last time I checked, edible tuna didn t smell like garbage, make us sick, and have slim all over it. But luckily we got our money back as she scurried us out. If you care about your health, safety, or that of your kids and loved ones, then don t go here. For those who take it a step further and are conscientious about what businesses they support with their money, you need to think twice before giving these people a means to continue operating. I have NEVER written a poor review about a restaurant, let alone a review this long and detailed. But the experience that I went through is something I wouldn t wish on my worst enemy. And when this place shuts down, I will feel much more at ease. Please take my word, AVOID this place.
Best sushi at a great price!
I like this restaurant. It is small but this is the only place I order my Sushi from. When I bought California rolls for my staff party, everybody liked it and asked me where I got it from. I like, among other things, their Sushi special, it is good value. I have been going here for years and have never had a problem so I dont understand some of the bad reviews as I have always had good food here.
Cheap and not too bad sushi, big portions. I understand that you get what you pay for, so I could live with that. The problem I see (and Ive been there more than once) is that the place looks dirty and some days theres a female cashier/server who is rude and acts like she is doing you a favor, and that is really a deterrent for me.
Some of the worst salmon sashimi Ive ever had. Everything else was okay at best. There are other much better options for sushi in PoCo.
We used SkipTheDishes and they missed half or order. We reordered and they still messed it up. We asked for the Sashimi to be cut thin and it wasn t. Not too sure if this was missed in the special instructions. Kind of sad because we usually buy from Hiro every week. They did reach out to me via text to apologize and took responsibility.
Good sushi
Recently tried takeout from here. Food was good (assorted rolls, yakisoba, rice bowl), prices were good. Fellow who took my order wasn t particularly friendly but I don t usually expect much. Went it to pick it up and it wasn t the type of restaurant I find inviting, and there was only one person seated. Chef was blasting out a bunch of take out orders behind the bar, but I was a little miffed that he wasn t wearing an apron (just a regular t-shirt) or hair protection you usually see sushi chefs at least wearing caps or bandanas. Food was good, though, without knowing any of these things. May go back for take-out again by probably wouldn t eat in.
Not too long ago, I used to be excited to eat at Hiro Sushi. Their prices were good and portions/food was exceptional aswell. Now, I gag anytime someone asked me if I want to eat there. Their miso soup tastes like it was made 3 days ago and just reheated - had 2 spoon fulls and I had to put it on the side. As for the food, the fish tasted horrible! With the summer heat, they have to learn how to properly store their food... I always ordered spicy tuna rolls because they are my favourite and I know a good one when I see one but theirs was tuna mixed with some filling or I dont even KNOW what, and I threw it out. With the other 2 rolls that I ordered, I also threw out because I didnt want to make myself sick. I am not one to be picky with my food but I didnt want to torture myself. They need to understand that customers are not stupid especially when it comes to food and even though I paid only $12, that is still money I wasted on a restaurant that I could have spend at another one. Save your money people, trust me when I say. Walk for 2 mins and go to Hiroba down the street. A little more expensive but its worth saving your stomach.
Great sushi for reasonable price!!
Good sushi. Small restaurant.
Well the food is okay. Portions not great. Not so clean and tidy..they store their pop and supplies by the wall and on the floor..so it didnt feel comfy enough. Staff wasnt so welcoming also. But the food and place was okay generally speaking.
Their sushi taste great and very affordable. Take out meal is well packed and clean.
Great service ( Jasmine is the best server there!! Super friendly and nice!!) and great food for reasonable prices!
This is my first review ever on a restaurant and it aint going to be a good one unfortunately. I ordered take out today(tempura, chicken karage, chicken Bento box) and the food did not taste fresh. The salmon was too slimy from the bento and texture wasnt right. The chicken wings did not taste good and seemed to be over marinated to hide the strong taste of not fresh wings..the WORST of all..the chicken wings melted through the take out styrofoam box and was stuck in between!! It tasted like chemicals and toxins. I threw out the whole box after one piece..Im really wondering how this place got through licensing.its really not safe and not okay to put extremely hot food into styrofoam box knowing that the box will melt and will release chemical toxins. Im not a picky person at all when it comes to food but this place was really disappointing. After this meal, I felt really ill. Im really praying that I wont get food poisoned..
Good price for good rolls. However I ordered tuna and salmon sashimi today and it comepletly turned me off of this place. The tuna was a terrible mush with no flavour at all. The salmon was slightly better but still flavourless. I couldn t t even finish the food as it was so gross. Which is a shame since it is a pricey option. Too bad.
My son in law treated me to sushi for lunch. This little retailer is some of the best Ive ever tasted. Bottomless tea with every meal and the freshest runs and seafood by far.
Order pickup or delivery via skip the dishes frequently. Fantastic value for their price and meal is always delicious.
This is my go to sushi place in PoCo. Yes the food is good, and in a very reasonable price, but do not expect a quality customer service. They do not know how to treat customers right, they cannot even greet you at the door, nor say Thank You after you have paid. As for drinking tea, I had to get myself a tea. They also gave me the wrong order! I think they are way too busy, which is great for their business, but the poor lady is the only one taking everyones order! They need to hire another person, to make their service better and more efficient. Good food, just do not expect a good service. Take your order home, and eat it there.
I love this place. Good food for a good price. Quick pick up times and can be ordered online if you dont want to call. I have nothing bad to say about this place at all.
Hiro Sushi is located conveniently in downtown poco, not too far from my residence. The prices are fairly low and the food quality is good. I wish they could improve their customer service but other than that it has brushed off on me.
Great sushi with good prices
Good food. Tataki tuna is great!!!!
Excellent place for fresh sushi at reasonable prices. The place is small and could use a little spruce up, but the food makes up for it. You can also order with brown rice for a nominal charge.
Fresh and friendly.
Decent quality sushi for an amazing price. Customer service was good!
Its my ummm-teenth time coming back here. The tofu teriyaki rice bowl is always my go to. I add a roll or two just to fill me up. They never seen busy but if you really pay close attention, their take out and delivery is always busy. When ever Im in Poco, this is one of my first picks when dining out.
We ordered take out twice from this place and both times were satisfying. Portions are nice and big yet prices are not expensive. Rolls taste fresh. I can say this place is one of the good ones in Port Coquitlam area. We will definitely order again in near future
The quality of the sushi is average but the quaint layout and okay staff make it a step up from other sushi restaurants nearby.
