3003 St Johns St #107, Port Moody, BC V3H 2C4, Canada
Down-home eatery with colourful decor dishing out a large selection of Southeast Asian specialties.
Finally got a chance to check out their Asian cuisine and was really impressed with the quick service and delicious dishes. Started with chicken wings and roti. When I asked for an alternate dipping sauce for the roti, I was offered a side of dahl which was delicious! We also had the chicken wings, Sri Lankan noodles with chicken, and the Mongolian beef on crispy noodles. Plan to share the entree with 2-3 others as the portions are very generous. Take out containers were offered for the leftovers. Our server has been working there for years and reports a lot of repeat customers. We'll be returning as well!
Currently little known, this restaurant is a hidden gem. Richard creates authentic South East Asian dishes. A little spicy for the average palate but taste is amazing. very reasonably priced menu offerings and fast friendly service.
Surprise the heck out of us. The Sri Lankan food that we ordered was top-notch. I would recommend this restaurant. Service was pretty fast and we didn't have to wait too long to get our food. Spice level was exactly how we like it. Portion sizes are decent on rates are not too crazy. It's a good place for any spicy food lover.
Warm and cozy restaurant with super hospitable staff and authentic food. We tried the Sri Lankan fish, Mee Goreng, chicken chow mein, hot and sour soup and spring rolls. Everything tasted great and our host did not skip the spices!! Also appreciate that we could talk to each other and there was no music playing in the background. Will definitely come back to try more food.
My Second time at this place as my 1st time with the Mrs was a hit. This time we bought our (under 10yrs) kids. They loved it! Great food, pricing is competitive and owner is lovely, making sure you are satisfied with his cooking. We definitely like this place over other big name places like ChongQing. Even the kids ageed their chowmain tastes better. Dine in for the best experience, get some desert. They do take out too. No food delivery services though. The drive over is worth it.
This restaurant offers a large selection of Asian dishes at a reasonable price! I would recommend trying this place. It was quite a trek to get here from Vancouver, but it was made easier by its proximity to a SkyTrain station. The restaurant itself is fairly plain but has some decorations and signage that add character. Service was good but not exceptional, and I had no complaints. My order was taken promptly and the food arrived after an acceptable amount of time. Finally, I was able to pay once I asked for a bill and I left without much delay. The food itself was delicious! I was concerned about the quality before visiting since I had doubts about the restaurant's ability to make so many different dishes, but I was soon proven wrong. The flavours were rich and the portions were large, so it was a challenge to finish it all. Although it's not the fanciest location, it's definitely worth trying and I recommend this to anyone looking for a restaurant that can showcase the flavours of Asia!
Five star for Nathaniel, Hazel & Sujwani’s service and five star for their chef who prepared our food!!! So delicious! Prices are reasonable too!
Great selection of Asian and western food. Pretty affordable. Service was good. What I liked about the dishes: good portion size for sharing. You can feed 4 people with average appetite on 3 dishes family style (sharing dishes). Overall good value. What I didn't like about the dishes: I wasn't totally impressed by the flavour and taste. Perhaps it was because of the dishes we selected but generally we all felt 2 of the 3 dishes didn't quite hit the mark. On a positive note, there was ample parking and service was good. We did have to wait a while to get the bill - I mean over 30 minutes.
Lovely Malaysian restaurant with some Sri Lankan options.
Food is not good. I dont recommend this place. The fried chicken was spoiled (like it had rested in the fridge for too long waiting to be served) and undercooked.
Im so grateful that this place is a pillar of my neighborhood. The Sri Lankan style curries will properly burn. None of the recipes cater to a Western palate and this is why I love this place.
Excellent quality food served by Chef Richard..thanks you Richard
I had a very disappointing experience with this restaurant. I placed an order over the phone, specifically requesting noodles without beef or pork due to my dietary restrictions. When I got home and started eating, I was shocked to find beef in my noodles. When I called to address the issue, instead of apologizing, the staff dismissed my concern, saying it was unusual to have dietary restrictions for beef or pork and implying that I might be wrong. They showed no understanding or respect for my request, and I felt their response was unprofessional and dismissive. I spent over fifteen dollars for food that I couldn t even eat, and the lack of customer care made the experience worse. I won t be returning, and I don t recommend this place to anyone who needs to be careful about what they eat.
Location is nice and service is excellent
We love this place! Their beef rendang is a constant craving of mine. We also love the roti canai - big enough for two people to share - and their Thai style noodles. Great portions and very tasty food.
I was surprised to compare the last time I ate at this restaurant 8 years ago. Today the food was very tasty, and the waiter was nice. Seems like there must be different cooks and ownership. I will go there often. Why KURUMBA instead of an Asian Cuisine eatery?
I am surprised that I had a bad experience with the takeout. I usually dine in and have not been disappointed. I ordered the Malaysian beef rendang, the large portion, and a roti Canai for takeout. Was shocked to see how light the large portion was, and the beef was hard and chewy. The roti Canai for $8.5 felt too expensive for its quality. In all I found the meal to be quite tasteless and shockingly expensive for the quality. Sadly I am having to rate the experience a 2/5 and not going back again.
Super tasty food and specially Srilankan taste is there how we want ( exact hot and spicy) Superb food with excellent service I recommend this place for everyone and I m sure if you will go there you will go second time or more and more
Food was ok
It s an Asian Restaurant that provides a few Sri Lankan dishes. I am a Sri Lankan and excited to visit this place. But the food was ordinary and average. We tried Nasi Goreng, Sri Lankan Faluda, Fish cutlets, spring rolls. We didn t get satisfied with any of that. But Sri Lankan roti with curry - Roti Canai that was great and will return only for that dish. Service is average, nothing welcoming, great or helpful. Vegetarian options: A few vegetarian options were available Kid-friendliness: They provided a baby seat and small plates with spoons.
A friend recommended this place saying it served good food. The roti is good but everything else was just okay. Do not order the char hor fun; they burn the noodles and tell you its the way Singaporeans like it. If you dont want it burnt, then you must let them know prior to putting the order in. I was shocked as Ive had this dish at other restaurants in the lower mainland and in Singapore. Never have I heard that the noodles are supposed to be burnt. Havent tasted it burnt at other restaurants neither.
Very kind. Amazing food.
A nice place, with places to sit. A variety of menu items, from different Asian cultures.
I love the lunch specials during the weekday especially the Sambal beans. Yummy!
I ate their fried pancakes. They were spicy and full of ingredients. A glass of local wine was not expensive either. The sister who served me was very enthusiastic and patient. She asked me to try her curry if I had a chance. There arent many visitors, but its obvious that they are all regulars.
I loved this place. The menu is extensive and has Malaysian, Sri Lankan, Hokkien, Singaporean and other South/South East Asian food. Everything we got was delicious and came out quick. And the portions are huge! Very homey atmosphere. And they have local beer on tap!
I took my mom here for lunch. She got the black bean beef and I got the Kung Pao prawns. Both meals were delicious and complimented by the pot of jasmine tea. Easy parking in the parking lot. Friendly server and fairly prompt. I d like to go back and try some other dishes.
Great place for Sri Lankan cuisines. Meet the chef before leaving the place. We drove from Kelowna. Best place.
Authentic flavors. Had Sunday lunch and we were all extremely impressed with the taste & flavor of dishes. The owner Richard has travelled widely to gather recipes of local dishes, and has a good grasp of the local flavor nuances of Sri Lankan, Chinese, Singaporean, and Malaysian dishes. Try to snag him if not too busy. We were all impressed, as a group of 8 diners with combined experiences of having had these local foods in each of the above countries. Enjoyed the hot spice of hot dishes. Our menu: roti canai appetizer, roti+Sri Lankan beef curry, seafood char hor fun (excellently done in a hot wok for that toasty flavor), beef rendang, mixed veg and tofu, kotthu roti w chix, sambal prawns & eggplant (personally, could use more spice). Definitely would return to have the other dishes on the menu. A definite recommend!
Delicious food at a cute restaurant with a beautiful backstory. The dishes were really good flavour wise and the roti was hot. I like the variety of different food options which means that we can all order different things and share. I need to come again. 5 minute walk from the SkyTrain station. Watch out for spice, the menu descriptions of spice are accurate!
I went to Kurumba Restaurant for dinner with my friend. We arrived there at 8:00 PM. On Google, it says it closes at 8:30 PM, so we ordered food quickly. We got our food by 8:15 PM. While we were still eating, the server came and informed us that the restaurant was closed and we might have to finish early. This was only five minutes past 8:30. We told her that we needed a few more minutes. Then she came back a couple of minutes later and asked if we could pay now so she could close out the cash register. This was very unusual because it was not 15-20 minutes past the closing time; it was only five minutes past. Usually, other restaurants close the kitchen but don t passively ask customers to leave. This experience was very unpleasant. The food itself was good.
Very good food. The beef curry is one of the best Ive ever had. Too bad they close so early.
Best Char Kway Teow in the eastern lower mainland. The prawns are huge and good portion of variety of meat in there. A third dishes were great portions and good quality. This is my go-to even though I stay in Burnaby.
Great restaurant love the food. Service was really good. I had a great time here and would recommend it to everyone. 5 stars
So bad, Ill have to throw it out.
Kottu ate the taste of Sri Lanka
If youre in search of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, I highly recommend Kurumba. During our lunch visit, we enjoyed their delicious and authentic Sri Lankan Kottu, rice, chicken, and vegetable curries. Additionally, the Hokkien mee is incredibly tasty! The chef is truly doing an amazing job. The staff members are very friendly, providing good service. The portion size is generous, and the place is very clean. Additionally, the Hokkien mee is incredibly tasty! With a variety of Asian food options on the menu, Kurumba is a definite must-try.
Recommended the beef rendang lunch combo, the portions are good given the prices. Beef could be a lot softer, it was on the dry side, no fat at all. Thai green curry was okay, not the best. Feel like the food quality has gone down since last time I have visited.
Great place for authentic food
We enjoyed the dishes very much as the food was hot enough and delicious. We order Thai green curry with beef, spring roll & rice, and Srilanka curry chicken with spring roll & rice. The staff reminded us to choose the less or mildly spicy and the service was pretty good!
Sri Lankan food here amazing and hands down the best we had in a long while. Their Chicken Kottu is something to die for. Staff is wonderful and treated us warmly. The lady shared about their Sri Lankan origin. Will be back soon.
We went to Kurumba Restaurant alot when my children were younger because they had activities in Port Moody. We havent been there in awhile. The minute we stepped in it felt like home. The food is still excellent. The Singapore Hokkien Mee is especially good as is the Thai style green curry. We also had the Beef Char Hor Fun - our family favourite. If you are from Singapore and long for a taste of home, go to Kurumba Restaurant and be thoroughly satisfied. Chef/Owner surprised us all by still recognizing us after our long while away. Thank you Chef for continuously giving us delicious authentic dishes.
Food is absolutely delicious! Staff were lovely too. Most definitely would bring my family for a lovely dinner here
The food has significantly worsen and charge for takeout containers.
So a lil thing about me I m a Sri Lankan as you know it, ever since I moved to Vancouver, I ve been craving Sri Lankan food (food that hits home) GUESS WHAT? I FOUND IT !!!! This restaurant serves you the best authentic dishes from Sri Lanka, along with many other asian cuisines. The owner/chef spoke to me and my cousin in Sinhala and made us feel like home. Seeing the excitement, the chef gave us complimentary food to try and let him know what we thought about it. My cousin brother ordered Yellow Rice with Sri Lankan curry; while I ordered in a Nasi Goreng, that I ve been longing to try THE BEST IN VANCOUVER .i got no words to explain how happy I am from my experience here The Chef and the server were very welcoming and we talked for a very long time about our roots AND OUR LOVE FOR AUTHENTIC SRI LANKAN FOOD.
Went here for lunch and it was amazing!! Get the Roti, chicken fried rice and the Kung Pao chicken!
Tasty but the sri Lankan curry I had may have been loaded with msg...shortly after finishing this brunchh mouth got so dry I wasnt even able to say anything. Not ideal;-(. Of course the dryness of mouth might have been due to other reasons but logically, the curry was the only thing Id eaten since the morning and Id drunk only water, juice and tea (unlikely contributors) all fingers point to the curry. As a counterpoint my dining companions suffered no such dryness of mouth.
Tasty Sri Lankan food. Food had authentic Sri Lankan taste. Fish curry was the best and kids loved the wings. Sri Lankan falooda was tasty as well. Service was good. Enjoyed food. Thanks for great food. Vegetarian options: There were good vegetarian options. Kid-friendliness: They gave less/no spicy options for kids.
Best place to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan food culture. You can find finely selected items representing Sri Lankan cuisine which also include some wonderful east asian dishes. I enjoyed the Chicken Kottu and Nasi-goreng which is spicy enough to awaken your taste buds and memories you had in Sri Lanka. Another delicacy you will never find anywhere else is the Rice and curry. Really loved it.
Have eaten here a couple times now. Amazing Sri Lankan food (both mild and spicy) and big portions for the cost. Will eat here again.
Humble eatery in Port Moody. The good stuff is in the regular menu, not the lunch special menu. I ordered the Mee Goreng and it was amazing delicious. The servers told us the owner is the chef and I can taste the passion in the dish.
One of the very few Sri Lankan restaurants in West coast. Food was good. But there is not much variety. Also lacked the coconut milk in curries which is a staple in Sri Lanka. Price is reasonable
I love this place! Very delicious food
Been coming here for a while but their Nasi Goreng is a-must. For less than 18 dollars, the portions will last me two meals!
One of my favorite restaurants! Every time Ive visited, the food has been amazing. This time, I got the Roti Canai, Calamari Rings, Pad Thai with Chicken and Sri Lankan Beef Curry. By far the best Roti Canai and Pad Thai Ive ever had! The Calamari is so tasty and crispy and the Sri Lankan Beef Curry is super flavourful, full of spice and the beef chunks are amazingly tender. The portions are big and the prices are super reasonable too! Ive taken my friends and family to this restaurants and I cant wait to come back and try more of their delicious meals! I highly recommend trying Kurumba, you will not be disappointed!
Food is good. Service is great. Authentic Singapore food. Parking: Just steps away from restaurant. Food : 5/5 |
Delicious and authentic dishes! If you like spicy this is the place to visit. I will definitely be back
Love it!!
Wheelchair accessibility: Street level parking Food
Came here with my wife and parents for dinner. This casual restaurant has the perfect setting for catching up with family over some delicious southeast Asian dishes. We ordered the Thai green curry w/ chicken, nasi lemak w/ beef, and roti canai (make sure to get these with eggs; they are tastier with it). Decent portions for a fair price. The service was friendly as well. Only downside is that they close quite early, at 8:30PM on a Friday night.
Pretty good! Lunch specials are a great value. So much variety. The Sri Lankan beef is very spicy just as a fyi, and the potatoes were a bit underdone. I enjoyed the vegetable curry that came with the combo and would happily order that again.
This restaurant is one of our few regulars around the tri-cities area. Our go-to dishes every time we visit are the Char Hor Fun noodles with beef, buttered calamari and beef green Thai curry! We ve been coming here for a number of years now and the taste has always been consistent!
Never knew about this place, but the food are divine. Feels we were back in our home country
One of my favourite restaurant in Port Moody. The food is good and the atmosphere is welcoming.
You are going to be blown away by this, hold on tight to your keyboard and mouse! THIRD time visiting Kurumba, thought it is a neat place; but found out in a bad way tonight the owner Richard Sun is a big man with unfortunately a very small heart. You might go there thinking you are supporting your community business. To Richard Sun, you are NEVER his community. A party of 11 people for birthday dinner tonight. Called ahead to make reservation, and asked if we can bring a cake to eat. Waiter said okay no problem. Final bill ~$225 before tax and gratuity. We paid first (our mistake), then asked plates for cake. Young waiter flustered uncomfortably, and cringed his boss said the restaurant cant serve us with their ceramic plates, and we have to buy paper plates from them ????????? After some confused exchange, Richard Sun himself hell-marched out of his kitchen, and pontificated loudly: We cant let you eat using our restaurants plate because the cake leftover is very tedious to scrap off. I will have to do it myself. You can buy paper plate from us. I think this is fair. This is a light cake with fruit topping, not event a cheese cake. We were just blown away by how this MAN THINKS. Never heard such an excuse. We thought we were supporting a local business. To Richard Sun, we were just meat strapped with cash.
Really good food! I had the Beef Rendang and it hit the spot. The service was really good also. I would highly recommend this place. Thank you so much!
It was busy weekend, I wanted to eat something quick but then I went to Kurumba mixed Asian food restaurants, it was interesting to see various dishes from different places! I ordered Nasi goreng and nasi Lemak ! Crispy pomfret fish with aromatic coconut nice was so delicious! Server was very nice and casual presentation. I highly recommended if you love Asian spicy foods
Sri Lanka buttered calmari, asked for less spicy, is my most fav dish. Crispy (despite take out and drove 20 min home). Chicken Chow Mein, excellent. Prawn pad Thai, nothing great about it. Singapore seafood char fun, not good at all. Some parts of noodles were burnt and some were badly clumped together. Sri Lankan beef Curry, lots of tender meat. Great portion. No skimping. But we asked for less spicy but it was too too spicy. They messed up. Because the sri Lankan chicken curry that we asked for medium spicy, was mild. So our guests were not able to enjoy these dishes as our non beef eaters eat non spicy and our chicken eaters want their curry spicy. The sizzling beef was good, meat was tender. Too much onions though. Overall would go back to this place because we have a household of picky eaters with dietary restrictions and this place offers variety and yet do a good job on it.
Always delicious!
Best place to have sri-lanka food
Met our son for dinner and he recommended Kurumba. We had never even heard of the restaurant before so we had no idea of what we were getting into. Very pleasantly surprised. It looks like a family run hole in the wall restaurant. Food was excellent, a mix of Asian cuisine with a focus on south Asian food. Dinner for 5 adults cost $120 including tip. Only minor quibble was lack of staff so service was a bit slow but given how difficult it is getting hired help today it wasnt a complete surprise. I would highly recommend giving this place a try.
Delicious mix of Asian food and a huge menu to choose from. Prices to portion size ratio is good. There are lunch specials available each day of the week. I got the Sri Lankan beef which was very spicy and it came with a choice of a variety of soup or spring roll. Another person got the sambal squid which was very authentic. Vegetarian options: Lots of options
Plenty of parking and regular customer reassurance of the same owner from before! Due to lockdown and being away from the country, been over a year since our last visit ... its a great pleasure to be back, food is as good as before. Glad that they did not change hands! Will be back for more delicious Malay delicacies!
Beef rendang is crazy good
Great little restaurant with some unique the area dishes. Fantastic Sri Lankan options!!
AMAZING food, tastes great and the portions are ginormous
Service was quick and they offer a variety of lunch specials for a decent price. Beef rendang was well cooked and flavourful. Roti canai was a good portion size and also delicious. I will come back sometime soon to try their Thai food and Nasi Goreng.
This is a gem of a restaurant, especially if you are from South or South East Asia and looking for a taste of home. The food is amazingly good and authentic. We tried the Sri Lankan dishes and they blew our mind. The taste was truly Sri Lankan, complete with the right spice combinations. Food
Must try Sri Lankan restaurant! Authentic Lankan food with the proper spice level ( for a Sri Lankan) and nice portions. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. Will definitely go back!
I had Sambal Fish with Eggplant for lunch and it was incredible. Full of flavor and the portion size was very generous. Id love to come back to try other items on the menu as well
Authentic Sri Lanka kottu in BC. Must try!
Dietary restrictions: Some dishes are good for those with gluten or diabetic restrictions. Parking: There are several spots in the small area which houses several businesses. I m have only gone for lunch on weekends and dinner on weekdays and weekends and have not had difficulty finding parking at any time. Wheelchair accessibility: The space is on the ground floor and the door is wide enough for a wheelchair to get through. The whole place is flat and bathrooms are large enough. There are no grab bars or any other aides though.
Asian food
Overall giving this place 3 star as their food is just okay didnt see anything out of ordinary. Service were just okay as well where the attendant doesnt have much info when asked question. As for their atmosphere its great since there is enough lighting and vibes to chat with partner/companies. On my first visit they gave me wrong order instead of chicken they made Beef Fried noodle which we had to discard the whole dish since we dont eat beef. On my 2nd visit I had to wait for my take away to be ready, ordered the food 20 min before arriving and had 2 beer while waiting.(was long in my opinion) Gave another chance and ordered again, to my surprise they are charging extra if you ask for hot sauce with your to go dishes and heres the twist condiments are free when you dine in. Personally I dont prefer this double standard rule. PS: This restaurant does not server Gravy/Curry with their Kothu Roti, had to eat it dry upon reaching home. End of the day there is always surprises in my take away order(negative experience).
Mens washroom was very worn out,tsk tsk
We always enjoy our meals from the restaurant. We love to order char kway teow and char hor fun!
Got takeout, food hot and ready on time, Nasi Goreng is on point, reasonable prices.
Amazing indian food with great customer service!!
Ive been going here for a long time, I havent been back in a couple of years but it has ALWAYS been deliciois. A hidden gem.
Delicious food and friendly staff
Excellent food, price, portion and more importantly the service. This place has the nicest waitress Ive seen.
Exceptional food, interesting menu, generous portions, friendly prompt service. Best Malaysian/Sri Lankan food in the Tri-Cities.
My sister and I ordered the chicken koththu and vegetarian koththu, and both were terrible. This is NOT Sri Lankan food. Sri Lankan food is flavourful and has depth. These dishes had neither. Koththu is a type of street food, fried with egg, spices and gravy to the point that it is almost a dry stir fry. This koththu was soggy, had too much of pepper and chilli, and was nowhere near our traditional koththu. The vegetarian koththu was the worst - who puts carrot, ladies fingers, eggplant and potato in a koththu??? Vegetarian koththus ONLY have the chopped up roti, onions and egg, there are NO big chunks of vegetables! Being from Sri Lanka and having eaten our cuisine from almost all parts of Sri Lanka, these dishes are an insult to our country. You should change the cuisine of your restaurant to Confusion and Misrepresentation because claiming it is Sri Lankan is a huge lie and embarrassment to our culture. APPALLING.
Love this place only wish they have delivery and are closer to me
Not everything is good but the one Sri Lankan plate(kuttu roti) was cant say good but it was ok. As a Sri Lankan Ill approve it...
Amazing service and tasty food!!!
Asked for the Char kway teow and char bee hoon with no bean sprouts. The person that took my order reconfirmed with me so I know they knew, but they put the bean sprouts in anyways. The char kway teok was okay, nothing special. The char been hoon had no flavour whatsoever. Ive been here a few times years ago and Im disappointed that the quality feels like it has gone down
The food here is always awesome and very authentic. Having been born & brought up in Singapore I can certainly recommend the seafood char hor fun, the char kuey teow , the prawn sambal, the tau foo sambal , the roti canai and the beef rendang. Richard the owner, spent lots of years in Sri Lanka as well and his Sri Lanka dishes are just as good. His other staff (Grace especially) are always attentive and helpful. Would definitely highly recommend this restaurant to anyone It has been many years since I wrote in my first review of Karumba Restaurant. Since then I have come back to this restaurant numerous times, to dine in or take out, and each time I have been convinced that my first review was spot on. The food is still excellent and Richard and his staff very attentive and professional. I will continue to patronize the restaurant and urge all my friends and acquaintances who want a taste of good Singapore/Malaysian/Sri Lankan food to come here. My compliments to them!
Ive had their green and red curry and they have both been amazing! Fried rice is good too..
Food is fantastic, definitely worth the price. The Flatbread was the only item I did not like, but that is because Im used to classic tandoori Flatbread, and this was shy of cooked in the middle. Great for a good curry before a night on the town.
Amazing mix of Asian foods! Really tasty and not overly expensive. Highly recommend.
I have been to few good places for Malaysian and south Asian restaurants and this place is worth every penny. My favourite beef randang seemed too watery but it was very good! Soft beef. And sambas prawns with eggplant was amazing. Prawn was very fresh and good amount. I will come again!
Good and attentive service. The chow kueh tiao was good sized and tasty. Worth a try. The rendang was a little tough and didnt like the mixed veggies that came with the dish. The roti canai was a nice portion and we enjoyed it. Nice finish to our meal. Will go back again to try their other dishes when we are over that part of town.
Great place for some Malaysian food. Love the sambal eggplant and tofu dish.
A bit unfriendly
This is our go to takeout restaurant in the Tri-Cities. They have a large, tasty menu. The portions are very generous. Their noodle dishes and their beef curry are amazing.
You lost a regular customer
Delicious and homemade vegetable curry with roti. Others had murtabak, which was great. The owner told us it was homemade and everything is made from scratch. You can definitely taste the difference.
Great place for Singaporean/Malaysian/Sri Lanka food! Roti Canai and Horfun are our favorites!
I have been passing in this restaurant for the past 20 years and only come abd visited today. Im impressed! 1. Quality of food: Superb! 2. Customer Service : Superb! 3. Service speed: Superb! 4. Cleanliness: Superb! 5. Pricing: Superb! Highly recommended!
Very very spot on for the kind of cuisine they are serve. one of the most honest flavours for ethnic food in this area and around Vancouver. rare find.
Its now.pur fave place to go. Sri Lankan, Chinese, Indonesian food
Foods are not to my expectations.. I tried their back by popular demand fried fish.. portion is big.. but the taste of the fishes are kinda off sour.. .. Even the sweet and sour pork tasted off.. meat not fresh must improve in that!
Excellent Sri Lankan food
Fantastic food and awesome service Keep it up folks
Generous portions and huge lunch menu. Flavourful and delicious!
This joint is dope! Whipping up super yummy grub in a low-key, minimal fuss and very authentic lunch experience at more than reasonable fare. This is a new favorite for sure and think I found an awesome hidden gem! I got the Sambal Tofu & Eggplant which was super tasty, a phenomenal experience boasting incredible authentic flavors and spices in a very plentiful portion. I totally dig this place, it has a large array of home-cooking pan asian grub and many veggie options! Support local businesses!
Good service place is clean & ample parking. Was a bit skeptic about the food as you have choices of Indian, Thai & Malaysian together in 1 menu. We ordered the crispy chicken wings, murtabak, Hokkien fried noodle ( actually this be my s a dish from Singapore) They also have lunch specials from Mon - Fri. The menu is quite extensive since they covers 3 countries. The crispy chicken wings were good, I ordered the regular , came with a Thai sweet chilli sauce for dipping. The murtabak was ok, flavour was there but not strong enough, the curry sauce was a heavy cumin taste which is decent. The portion for the Hokkien Mee was substantial & cooked quite wet with a small amount of gravy. The taste of the Hokkien Mee was there, came with lime & a small sauce of sambal. Taste wasn t bad. Would go back & try other dishes.
I love there curry dishes, especially the chill fish with dry curry. This chili fish is very spicy and yummy
My party tried all their sri lankan dishes and was just extremely disappointed. Everything was flavourless.. and the spicy dishes had no heat to them at all. Have had better south-east asian food elsewhere. Just disappointing. :(
Delicious food. Fast service and very friendly staff. Little Hidden Gem in PoCo that you NEED to try!!
Not sure how I missed this for so long but this jewel of South Asian cuisine has been hiding in plain site for at least 20 years. The Singapore noodles, Szechuan green beans and butter sauce calamari are our current obsessions but its just the tip of the iceberg of goodness here.
The sri lankan fried noodles tastes mainly like baking soda -baking soda is used to tenderize meat but they used way too much because the whole dish tasted like it. I told this to the server and he just recommended i get the mee go reng next time. -buttered calamari has no butter. I think this is a type in their menu thats meant to say battered. This typo actually makes a big difference in the dish. The dish itself is fine though but its not a good amount of calamari for the price -beef rendang The beef here was not tender. The curry was sauce was great with the rice though The decor inside the nice. It looked like an authentic restaurant.
So want to give an extra half if there was an option. Just not perfect, but doesnt pretend to be. A really nice little place. Unpretentious. Homey. Good food. LOTS of options. Thai, Indonesian, Chinese/Szechuan, Sri Lankan variations. Chicken, tofu, pork(in some), beef, prawns, ... as protein. I had Thai spring rolls and the green curry chicken lunch special.
This place has the best Singaporean/ Malaysian/ Sri Lankan food ever! Their curries are so flavourful (just watch out they are pretty spicy) and the Rendang is by far my favourite! The rotis are delicious and in my opinion the most delicious item on their menu is their crispy chicken wings. The chicken is so crispy and juicy, perfectly cooked. Its not overcooked at all. It tastes the best when you eat in the store, nice and hot! 100% will be coming back again and will recommend this place to anyone who s in the area.
We bought some takeout food for dinner from Kurumba in Port Moody and brought it to a friends place for dinner. Our order consisted of 3 pieces of whole fried fish, Seafood Char Hor Fun noodles, Sambal Tofu with Eggplant, Coconut Rice, and Goreng Pisang with Ice Cream. Everything was delicious but the star of the show was the fried fish. The man who packed our food at the restaurant left the lid slightly open for us as I had expressed concern that the fish might lose its crispiness by the time we reached our destination. While it was definitely better on previous occasions when we ate it fresh in the restaurant, it was still quite crispy when we sat down to eat it. We were impressed with how crispy the fish was, considering how far it had traveled. My husband and I brought leftovers home and reheated it a couple of days later in our Ninja Foodi machine, on air crisp setting. Oh wow...it was even better than when we had it fresh in the restaurant. Crispy, plus...less greasy! Service: Good Parking: Free parking in front of the restaurant. Location: Kurumba is on St. Johns St. which is a busy street in Port Moody. Short drive from Coquitlam Centre and Rocky Point Park.
I had the Beef Rendang with Roti lunch special. Both the curry and roti were great!
The place for spicy authentic Malaysian or Sri Lankan cuisine. They have a wide variety of dishes full of spice and flavor. Seating is limited due to Covid but still offer dine in. Plenty of parking and easy to find.
Amazing food... The service was great and the staff went out of their way to accomodate our extra order on New Years Eve... Thank you...
Excellent food. Very friendly Service. I ll definitely return.
Waitress is very kind, and friendly. Food is great, recommend the chili fish and rice. Roti is very tasty as well.
This place is a hit or miss sometimes it s good other times totally disappointing. I feel like the quality is going down hill and the cook / owner ? does not take feedback very well not much for customer service
Worst management. Please don t go to this restaurant. They turned me down because they wanted me to take out for without any reason. May be they thought it was convenient to push customers to take out
Great place to get some Malaysian/Singaporean food.
WOW..... I just had the most wonderful gastronomic experience.... Spices and flavours.... If you are a big fan of spicy food, then this restaurant should be on your bucket list. A must try dish..... Sri Lanka egg plant, savoury, with just the right amount of spiceness. I WILL be back to try more Sri Lankan and Malay dishes.....
We did like this restaurant until one day they made a mistake on the order regarding allergies. They warned us after started eating that there could be the allergen. The owner/chef got frustrated and when things escalated blamed us for taking risks going out to eat and blamed his staff. You shouldn t go out to eat at restaurants if you are high risk. We are just trying to make money. That s what we will always remember. Good food selfish chef. So don t come here if you have any allergies. I told him to put a big sign rejecting all these people.
Awesome service, food pretty good too. Booking your table is recommended.
Excellent selections of Southeast Asian food with authentic flavours! Great value as well!
Great food - friendly staff and nice and spicy if you like it that way!! Highly recommended.
Place to go for some delicious Sri Lankan food. Food is consistently delicious, take out is always hot and ready on time. Sri Lankan Dishes are spicy but to be expected, spicy but so delicious!
Casual pan asian cuisine; iconic dishes of south east asia, China. Vegetarian friendly menu. Nasi lemak with fried fish was delicious. Generous portions. Plaza parking available.
Very delicious food. Tried the Mie Goreng (Balinese), Pork Soup and Thai Spring Rolls. Lots of food for what you pay for. Unfortunately the Spring Rolls were a bit pricy for 2 small rolls. Overall, good.
Very tasty food, if you like curry and spicy food, this is must try.
Kurumba is a restaurant well-known by the Sri Lankan community, and for good reason. Its a reminder of home, from the decor inside to the food itself. Every bite is packed with flavour, spice, and heat. Some of our favorite dishes are the roti canai, nasi goreng, and Sri Lankan chilli fish. Eating here is always a treat and well always keep coming back!
The kotthu roti is a must have!
Standard has gone down. Dishes overpriced: Char Kway Teow $14.95 - burnt ingredients and doesnt taste like it should be, not nice at all. Seafood char ho fun $18.95 - squid hard and very salty. Murtabak $11.95 - also burnt on some parts. In my opinion, the restaurant should not serve food that is burnt, chef should check and be mindful of the quality before serving. Price, quality and taste wise - you can get better elsewhere.
Selected menu items were quite good in taste and quantity. Only the noodles were a bit overcooked, but nevertheless tasted nice. Small family operated establishment. Mixed asian menu.
We enjoyed your RENDANG, Nasi Goreng and Ice tea very much! Thank you for everything
Today I had fried rice noodles with hotpot flavor and chilli beef sri lanka with spiciness. I can only say that it was amazing, and it had a completely Malaysian taste.
Good food! Loved the Tuna cutlet! The curry, fried rice, beef & sea food options were great! Not sure if this is authentic Sri Lankan, but very tasty!
Sri Lankan cook with a great selection of Southeast recipes. My favourite was the sweet & sour fish paired with Nasi Goreng.
Lunch special Among the list, my number one choice Hot delicious chilli based sambal fish with eggplant goes well with white rice including an appetizer of either fried spring roll or hot & source soup.
The kottu rotti (beef) is a must-have was fantastic, as was the beef curry we took home. Customer service was great, too. Portion sizes were generous. Food isn t as spicy as authentic Sri Lankan food, but I guess it s made to cater to a range of taste buds. Giving them four stars because the chocolate biscuit squares and hot butter calamari aren t very authentic/great.
Delicious curries and lovely staff!
The Nasi Goreng (Malaysian fried rice) was extremely salty. Portion was big but did not make up for the poor quality. Utensils and bathroom unsanitary. Will not be back.
Great food. *Recommendations*(beef kottu, srilankan style fried noodles, nasi goreng and mongolian beef)
Good food, but my dish wasnt as hot (temperature)as I would have liked it
Even though they are trying to sell SriLankan food, it is not real SriLankan food. It is very much different from SriLankan food.
Interesting variety, plenty of spicy choices, ample portions. Casual dining and take out.
The best kotthu rotti in the lower mainland. My senses still burn with its flavorful spices everytime I think about it.
very disappointing. wouldnt both returning
Delicious food and a stunning variety. Sambal tofu with eggplant was a real hit
Lunch specials are insane value. All the food is ridiculously big portions and the staff are very nice.
No chopsticks
Most authentic experience for exotic and asian food in Vancouver. Amazing quality, hospitable staff Loveeee this place
Very yummy dishes and reasonably priced. Location is good and peaceful as well. Overall great experience
Had a great meal at Kurumba Restaurant in Port Moody! This restaurant features dishes from different parts of Asia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, etc. We ordered the following: Thai Crispy Spring Rolls - these Rolls were okay. They lacked shrimp & filling in general but were nice & crispy. Unfortunately I dont think I would order them again. Sri Lankan Hot Buttered Calamari - this dish was amazing & I couldnt stop eating it. The calamari was cooked to perfection & the buttery sauce was quite spicy with a hint of sweetness. Soooo good. Roti Canai - I love Roti Canai & this definitely hit the spot. If I had one issue with it, is that the curry dipping sauce was the same or at the very least very similar to the Sri Lankan Beef Curry (another dish we ordered) & as a result it was very spicy. Sri Lankan Beef Curry - We asked if this could be made on the mild side & the server said she would try but didnt think it was possible & I can see why. It appears the beef has been cooked it the sauce for several hours. It was fork tender & the flavours of the sauce permeated right through the meat. It was at least 2 chillis spicy as the menu states, but the flavours were so good we couldnt stop eating it, even with tears running down our faces. Chicken Kottu Roti - Sri Lankan Hawker Style dish made with shredded roti canai & scrambled eggs. This dish was okay. I found that it lacked chicken & eggs & was heavy on the roti. We ended up taking this one home. The next day we added some more chicken & eggs & gave it another fry & omgoodness, it was soooo good, I had two helpings! Overall this is a great restaurant to try different ethnic dishes in one spot at a reasonable price. Some of the dishes are hit & miss but overall it was a great experience. The service is friendly & quick. Just beware, that if you are ordering a dish that has even a one chilli pepper rating, chances are it is going to be spicy, even if you ask for it to be on the milder side. @inspiringfoodie
Great gem in Port Moody! Will definitely need to come back for their dinner. We only had their lunch special and the taste on point.
Truly delicious food. We stumbled upon ths place by accident while waiting in-between dropping off and picking up our son for an appointment in Port Moody. Nothing fancy in terms of decor....a very average looking eatery in a crummy strip mall. But the food is excellent. - Menu spanning cuisines from India and Sri Lanka to Thailand, Malaysia and China. - Great flavours. We tried a beef curry, a pork fry and a chilie fish dish. All tasted delicious.
